"It's normal for siblings to fight" Okay well it's not normal to be extremely classist and look down on your sister for being non-conforming. Or to go to the woman who ordered the death of your pet to tell her about your father's plans, when he specifically warned you against doing so, because you want to marry the boy you saw attack your sister and her friend (contributing partially to said father's death and your sister being unable to escape on the ship he chartered). Or to think of your sibling as unsatisfactory in comparison to another when you believe her to be dead. I notice that none of the "Sansa and Arya are going to reunite and instantly have no issues" crowd ever acknowledge any of this, which makes it seem like they don't actually believe what they say about their relationship being normal and easily reconciled. People wanting them to have no issues simply because they're siblings is another example of how fandom likes to flatten complex characters and relationships. They get reduced to being bickering siblings when their conflict runs deeper than that. If the author is telling you that they have "deep issues" to work out [X], I don't understand being so adamant about ignoring said issues. I also get the sense it's about ignoring the capacity for a certain character to be flawed, but that isn't going to change the fact that her "slip of the tongue" is very likely to be revealed and a source of further conflict 🤷🏾‍♀️

there's a certain portion of this fandom that needs to come to terms with the fact that buck is a full grown man who is not going through the stereotypical internalized struggle over his sexuality. buck literally holds no shame over his attraction to men and the minute a man kissed him for the first time, he had a personal epiphany and agreed to go on a public date with said man.

if anything, buck had to deal with an internalized biphobia ingrained in him by a society that says both is not a real option. youre either a straight man or youre a gay man and straight is "the default" while gay is "abnormal" so he obviously cant be gay if a man feels any attraction to women. there is literally no indication in his character arc that he struggles with sexuality in a way that would leave him panicking, ashamed, and afraid for his safety if someone was to pick up on his sexuality without him wanting them to.

he literally tried to shove his out and proud date back into the closet, and that was definitely more out of immaturity and being ill-prepared than it was from any actual shame of being on a date with a man.

he is not early seasons tommy kinard. and he is not the fanon eddie diaz some of the audience has built up in their heads.

also, this is not to say that other characters got a free pass to willy nilly out buck because he wouldn't be distraught over it happening. simply pointing out that he was never in danger of being outed and stoned thanks to his soot covered mouth, and this idea that tommy is bad for him because he'd be to blame for it is just... silly af. just more infantilizing of buck in order to create hate for tommy.

no shade to anyone but it kinda gives me the heebies when i see people like "oh Steph is just like Jason but without all the melodrama lmao!" like. no she isn't actually? I love Jason and I LOVE Steph but they honest to god are not that similar. The most interesting events in Stephanie's story like her diying her vigilante work and all the personal life stuff going on with her are not at all applicable to Jason and Jason's death had implications for him and a butterfly effect that Stephanie's death simply did not hold for her. Both are tragic events but the context around them is like not the same, at all, even a little. Of course they have things in common like the kinda snarky demeanor and rough home life, but for them to be "pretty much the same" you have to be playing pretty fast and loose with personality and tone for both of them, and it's kinda a disservice to both as unique characters. Also idk it just rubs me the wrong way to pitch a female character to the fandom as like "omg she's just like your favorite boy except without the most interesting parts! Isn't that something?" but who am i to decide it's kinda just a pet peeve of mine lmao

Canon Alastor: This guy can and will kill you for his own benefit or just for funzies~ and will broadcast your demise and sufferingly slow death for the whole world to hear. Nobody thinks he's good, he's not even secret about it. He trapped one of the characters from the main cast in a horrible pact and is openly planning on doing the same to the main character. The only thing he seeks is power and he is smart enough to know how to get it.

your sokka is SO sokka and i say this as someone who holds him so dear ur writing of him is amazing. tbh im sooo fussy with his portrayal but its pretty nailed. like so many fics (esp zukka and zuko centric and ESPECIALLY ones where hakoda like adopts zuko) he's constantly pushed to the side in favour of zukos issues and zukos problems when in reality sokka is very hurt himself and has suffered a lot. man i GET taob sokka i really do bc people seem to think he was a lil mean but nobody seems to realise when you're in sokkas position it would've read like everyone was against you. all the swt men, including his dad who snapped at him, and even katara and aang and suki tell him to give zuko a chance and the fact that they were trusting someone who had hurt all of them so much- because yes WE know zuko wouldn't have killed them, but the gaang didn't. not when they were being chased and terrorised, and when sokka had his trust betrayed in the prison, he had absolutely every right to hate zuko, esp when it felt like everyone who he thought would understand his feelings, including his own dad who had been hiding his relationship with zuko from him, seems against him. his conversation with hakoda was probably my favourite scene in taob just bc he was allowed to feel like that without being treated by the narrative as someone just being mean to poor little zuko. he gets to be a sourpuss and angry and jealous at zuko for feeling like hed been replaced by his own dad. all of the water tribe men get this treatment like they're not written as bad people for being wary or disliking zuko initially (even chena despite being enemy no.1 at the start). his convo with hakoda was so important bc it stressed the detail that yes zuko has suffered and deserves to be cared for but SOKKA is his son, his actual child who is so hard on himself for things out of his control and who has hurt so much and deserves just as much as zuko does. sokka is just a baby my boy. he's not the main character but he's just as complex and intricate as zuko, not just in taob but also for the times we have seen him in tams there's been keen detail to his emotion and how he's feeling pointed out

In case you're one of the folks confused by the Ao3 cloudfare check message, it's a Star Trek reference - Lore was Data's evil brother who tried to infiltrate the Enterprise for nefarious reasons. I.e., an evil robot trying to sneak in for an attack.
