Hi Vanessa, I hope you're doing well.

C's birthday fic is currently in revision phase, first draft already done, and will be published on the 24th.

WW is kinda on hiatus, because my heart isn't in it at the moment, and every single time I forced myself to finish a fic it didn't when I didn't feel like it I ended hating the story.

But I don't ever abandon a fic forever, the Naruto girlies just got the ending of I fic I planned to finish five years ago lmao. I don't think it will be the case for WW because unlike AOH, WW has a script, but the new chapter will come when it is ready, that's all I can say.

I won't say anything for sure about Titanstober, but I don't have anything planned and October has always been VK month to me, I should give my VK girls some love maybe, or even Sailor Moon in general, really, I feel like I'm in debt with a lot of my friends from that fandom.

What I do have planned is to publish another DK for @feaap on December that I haven't started yet, and I plan to give @cyanis-art a hand with the NejiHina Week, because since I'm back here in Ninja Hell, I might as well, and a palate cleansing was long overdue, I've been writing and reading DC fic only since 2018.

No fear, I have done the math for all of you Fanfic authors so we can stop with the confusion.

Eddie’s Third Try at Senior Year is ‘86

Second try was ‘85, originally supposed to graduate in ‘84

Steve Graduated on time in ‘85

Therefore Eddie is one school year above Steve.

Additionally- as far as I am aware, Middle School is 3 years maximum. So, because of context/middle school talent show:

When Chrissy was in 6th grade, Steve was in 7th, and Eddie was in 8th grade- carrying on until Senior Year kept him back.

So Eddie is two school years above Chrissy.

Ages get a little weirder because I don’t know the Hawkins enrolment cut off/school year start. Some places start in August, others September. Some use age at enrollment, others use birth years etc. but, you can use a general 17-18 for Chrissy/the other ‘86 seniors, 18-19 for Steve/‘85 seniors, and place Eddie 19-20. 21 is kind of pushing it unless you go with a mid-year Appalachian transfer fanon- but again it depends on the enrolment of Hawkins.

I know folks who started kindergarten at 3 because they were big & potty trained, but others were delayed until 5. But 4 is average, ergo, let’s go with averages.

Edit: kindergarten apparently isn’t relevant anyways so let’s be glad it was crossed out anyways.

You know something I'd love to see for fandom? A service or online forum boards for finding fans or fics/fanworks from a long time ago. When you wonder "Whatever happened to sailorscout86 from LiveJournal?" or want to find an old fic you remember or give credit to a fanartist for a work of theirs that's still on an old harddrive you kept in 2012 or see if that filk writer ever did anything else, you could go on this website and either search for people by pennames/pseuds or for the piece of fanart, and if they had listed themselves there you'd be able to connect online via current pseuds or whatever they're working on now.

Participation would be strictly on a voluntary basis and you'd only ever have access to what pseuds or info the people joining themselves choose to list, so no one would get outed as having written That One Messed Up Fic ten years ago or whatever and you wouldn't have to worry about your job finding out about your high school fandom habits.I know anonymity and the right to disappear and be forgotten are (or should be) fundamental on the internet, but in fandom spaces in particular, people make friends that leave an impact and yeah, sometimes people want to leave a space and start over in a new one...but I feel like as time passes and you start to realize how much these people left a mark on you, having an option to let people look you up--and remaining pseudonymous, definitely, just letting them know what your current names or fandoms/projects are--could be a really nice way to use the internet for good and to connect people again instead of using it to fight with strangers.

I know it's an outdated and pie-in-the-sky kind of wish, and fandom identities are purposely ephemeral...but wouldn't it be nice if there were a middle ground where people could connect to old friends or their works on everyone's own terms?

been looking in tags for a few days now to see if anyone else found the whole high cloud quintet and related story to be a bit.....poorly written, nonsensical, contradictory, full of plot holes and loose ends, etc. apparently i'm not the only one. (and i'm not even talking about shipping stuff, because any time I saw someone mad about bad writing, someone always replies to be homophobic and laugh about failed ships. weirdos.) it could have been so good but was thrown into the garbage for the most part (IF you noticed all the plot holes and contradiction. if not, then it's a fine enough story tbh. I expect most people to see it on surface level and not read all the little hidden lore bits and try to piece it together like my autistic brain did. which is ok! enjoy it if you liked it and ignore me 😆)

Clocked a (new) student as a tumblr kid today as I was trying to (perhaps unwisely) explain the “they beat Jesus with that” meme to her as we were plugging in all the Huion cords.

The look of horror as I was winding up to the joke and asked her “do you go on tumblr a lot?”

“…O_O….yeah..?” Practically squeaking with shame

“Oh. Me too. They beat Jesus with this.”

Later, she’s explaining she likes photoshop better than procreate now and briefly starts to show me something with the details in her art but theN IMMEDIATELY gets embarrassed because that is clearly A Blorbo and “it’s garbage art anyway”

It was not and I coaxed her to show me her Sirius Black during Mauraders era AU art and she is CLEARLY just like. Ready to die and apologize for being One of Those Kids and I’m just like.

Honey. It’s fine. It’s still art. This class is Your Place and I am you in two decades.

Sans the Harry Potter bit, of course, but hopefully she’ll learn about how toxic JKr’s views are in her own time.

In other news I wrote a letter of rec for one of my Princes of Graphic Design and I’m in my feels about what a good kid and artist he is. I hope he can get his foot in the gaming industry like he wants.

It is the third day of living in a new hut in an unfamiliar land, and the sun is peaking out over the hills, shy in the early morning. Icicles wink with increasing ferocity as the morning crawls forward, sunlight’s reflected brightness clawing through the window.

A Dunmeri girl, just shy of fifteen, curls against her mother’s side. Body heat rarely goes unappreciated, but here it radiates such comfort that she feels herself reaching—there is little else she could want in this moment.

Still, despite the warmth and the travel-ache in her limbs, she finds herself turning away, keeping her eyes open and grazing the still-unfamiliar walls. Stares at the banners carefully dispersed throughout the hut in spaces that will feel right, soon. Symbols of the Tribunal face her with a warmth not diminished by their new surroundings.

Below these, her mother’s carefully carved altar piece displaying the Tribunal. It was carved before she could remember—before she was born, and when she is of age, she too will carve her own.

She’s been practicing for three years now, started as soon as tradition allowed. Her hands ache at the memory of carving them, practicing which attributes she would depict.

Her mother’s rendition of Almalexia carries a warmth in her facial features that is less common in Vvardenfell’s temples, yet prominent in her family’s private altars. Her voluminous, curly hair swirls around her fierce eyes as she stares at the two Dunmer, miles away from home, as she always has—with serene, watchful wisdom.

Her mother inhales sharply beside her, a sound she’s heard countless times. Vehk and Seht’s stares come into focus, each carrying their own wise attentiveness, then the rest of her room, foreign yet welcome protection from the cold that seeps between cracks and crevices.

The walls don’t quite feel familiar, but there is time yet.

I found out my favorite rugby rookie is also a Fandom nerd and it's been so long since I met an IRL not-normie friend. I am normie passing but God is it boring sometimes. Picture me three hours into a five hour drive smelling blood in the water when she tells me she also used to watch the original xmen trilogy on repeat. Oh? I say. I loved the new ones too, it's nice to have hot young xmen to read fic about. She tells me she's read an embarrassing amount of avengers fic. I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours I say. She says she'll probably recognize the ship by name. I admit that I was deeply into frostiron for several years. The manic wheeze of oh my god that came from the back of the car. Imagine you meet a fic friend in real life and the first thing they do is name drop your OTP. I also read stucky, I say. We're both somewhere between delirious laughter and tears. She knows that all good fic writers for some reasons also write hockey rpf!!! Finally it's like a third language I never get to use I've been archiving fandom knowledge since I was 15

I’m not sure if anyone else has like, specific fandom behaviours that they just hate. Mine is that I hate when people try to act like their fave celebrity is their best friend. No matter how many times you’ve met them/ interacted with them etc, you are still just a fan. You are not their friend. And if they’re acting overly friendly with you then it’s a red fucking flag. Especially if you’re a minor, don’t forget they are essentially still a stranger.

i think one of the least used concepts in elder scrolls lore is its nebulous relationship to truth.

like something i do actually appreciate about that cunt kirkbride's writing in morrowind is that the mythology of the tribunal is allowed to be relatively ambiguous and there's room for poetry and fable and unreliable narrators. there's a strong general tendency in both fandom and dev to interpret lore quite literally and treat every text as reliable sources of fact about tamriel even when the text is like. fiction or written with a clear bias towards certain factions or prejudices.

the main example I'm thinking of is the 'notes on racial phylogeny' lore book. it's literally just racist pseudoscience and in a real life context would be considered unreliable and deeply offensive. but in tes, i rarely see anyone stop to actually consider that perhaps this lore isn't really a factual study of how bodies work but about how the imperial empire categorises the people it colonises and justifies it's supremacy. there's so much focus on determining the rules and metaphysical aspects of the world that there's no consideration that the way factions like the empire see the world is inherently flawed.

it's fun to think of a world where stars are literal holes punched in the fabric of the sky, or that water is made of memory, but i also think it would be a much more fun and flexible world if these theories are considered to be just a few of many lenses that people in tamriel use to try to understand their world. some of my favourite pieces of lore and world building are things like 'cherims heart of anequina' that imply a rich world of culture and art; i love the idea that tamriel has art and art critics and people who discuss ideas for other purposes than trying to figure out what's The Only True Lore.

Kuroshitsuji / Black Butler returning is wild to me. It's from an era of my life that is so foreign to who I am today that it evokes something akin to nostalgia but feels closer to grief. Memories of writing and experiencing fandom and having such a silly little time in a world so different from what we experience now.

Sebastian is so beautiful, still.

The shipping will be grotesque, still. But watching this era of the internet drop their think pieces at a fandom that is simply built so fucking different is going to be hilarious. The unhinged young adults from way back are now essentially fandom elders who will laugh from afar as the puritanical weebs gnaw each other limb from limb. If any of my peers wade into the fire, good luck. That's not for me.

I was able to wade through the muck of the fandom because I loved the presentation of the Victorian Era and the supernatural mystery of it all. I fell off at some point, don't even know what arc or what was happening. I've forgotten more than I can even recall about the whole thing.

It's hard to put into words.

I don't know whether I'll check out the new anime or not, but I'll certainly admire it from afar and think about how far I've come since it held such a warm place in my heart.
