Hope you are handling life with better wits about yourself than I am. I’ve tried to look at all sides in this "SK-Media Sich" we are in, I’ve been crying, ranting and yelling during Mercury Retrograde and I’ve been silently nodding my way through the past couple of days, but surprise-surprise, I’m done with alla dat, so I’m here to bitch and let bygones be bygones. I just gotta do it loudly if not my brain will not register, cause you know I’m getting old an all.. And by bygones I mean, the hope that SK Media will, somehow, see the light and rectify their ways.

SK-MEDIA 👏🏾 DOESN’T 👏🏾 LIKE 👏🏾BTS.

The quicker we get that engraved in our skulls the easier EVERYTHING will get.

They absolutely never had, they presently definitely don’t, and most likely never will. Media is a profession, and like every profession they need money, to make a living you know, like I do, and you do. However, there are certain jobs which have a moral code that should be higher than others. Such as doctors, lawyers, law enforcement officers, to name a few, as they are directly involved with the safety of citizens/civilians. Media, in the big year of 2024, should also be considered directly involved with the safety of citizens/civilians. 

Media is supposed to be the eyes and ears of the citizens, so that, among the many things, we can be properly informed, in order to make the rightful judgement and/or be warned of dangerous situations we might encounter, so that we can be properly prepared. All the while, presenting themselves with integrity, by always upholding good ethics and abiding by a wish of reporting truthful news. Well, my people, SK MEDIA HAS MANAGED TO DO NOT A SINGLE THING OF THE AFOREMENTIONED.

NOT ONE.

To begin with: They are fucking bullies. 

Honestly you need to look no further, no k-drama, no old-school urban legend, just figure out who they hate and you’ll have A-Team Bully Squad What?! You thought all those years of bullying, or being bullied, at school would have gone wasted once you graduated from the education system? Child … . Once they’ve found their target, complete annihilation is the goal. Did you drink a few? Caused no physical harm to anybody, damaged no property, but fell at the entrance of your property, mainly because of a sharp turn, took full accountability, and immediately apologised? 

AYTE, BET.

Fuck all the women in my country that have been finding it excruciatingly hard to live in their own country. Fuck the young girls who are being contantly s3xuall1 h4rassed. Fuck the upcoming generation suffering from so much collective generational trauma that they may not even make it past elementary school age alive. Fuck the fact that my own country is, for the most part, raising entitled male brats, who don’t fundamentally understand the value of life. Fuck the fact that when S-M Entertainment was created, they unfortunately ended up also creating the foulest and most flawed system for success, aka the Idol Sytem. FUCK ALLA DAT. You don’t go through SK Media to guarantee your success? You don’t pay us to keep your darkest secrets? You offended us in some kinda way? You are not part of the Elite? … You are a woman? … We will end you, bro! Illegally or illegally, cause, who’s gonna stop us?

… And you wonder why K-ARMY has been acting like they have? 

And I am not talking about the ones who became anti, FUCK THEM TOO, they are the type of people, who would kick out their own children if they were caught doing the same thing, instead of figuring out causes, teaching accountability and figuring out punishments and future prevention. I’m talking about the K-ARMY who presently are so paralysed by fear that they are scared of even breathing in the fear that perhaps their government/police/media will create some inexistent crime and pin it on 🐱cause we all know how fact checking is paramount and still alive nowadays … 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡. Even as we speak, K-ARMY fear that Samsung might decide to drop 🐱, which hey, it’s your country, do what you gotta do, I can almost guarantee you that Apple is probably literally outside the door waiting for their opportunity, cause here in the West we have our 99 big issues, but an inebriated kickboard, ain’t 1. 

They are living this Black Mirroresque kinda reality everyday. You know who else is? 🐱. He is also very aware of how things work in his country UGH! does after all have a reason for existing, can’t stress this enough … and though he definitely would have the right to contest unnecessary mistreatment, he knows he will definitely “die” before he even “attempts to get to the top of that hill”, which is why after he’s done all he needed to do, he’s handeed himself to the A-Team Bully Squad for their Exclusive + Deluxe Treatment reserved to the likes of 875. 

Y��all want an extreme example? Here we go:

Picture Germany, 1943 yes I’m going there , their Media at the time was completely controlled by their government, hence allowing them to report lie after lie after blasted lie to their citizens, in addition, from the testimony of many a citizen citizens swore up and down to not know what was going on the concentration camps, just “people would go in, and never come back out …”. So it was that many German Jews because lets not forget that they were all German, just not “aryan” , decided to either find ways to fight which will almost certainly ended in them being k1lled, or just directly un4live themselves rather than being subjugated to that hell, the majority as we all know, had no other choice but to comply. 

Yet we do have the likes of Schindler, who managed to save hundreds of German Jews. How did he do that? He most certainly did not try to go against the Media or the government in power, I can guarantee you that. He found other trusted non-Jew Germans, who had contacts with Allies, who had other contacts and so on and so forth. But it was all covert. After all the Allies existed, they were fighting the war, they all knew what was going on in Germany and eventually they found their way to get in and help put an end to it all. 

In this horrendous scenario, I-Army are the Allies and K-Army is Schindler, but unfortunately, I have no idea how we can help them, because it has to come from them to us, not the other way round, as we know nothing about how to deal with things over there, BUT, if they need help they all know where to find us and how to get the help they need without attracting unwanted gazes, I’m sure of that. So we must let them be and we will be here for them if/when they need. 

While the rest of the world slowly keeps finding out about the SK Media Clown Show, we’ll keep doing our “storming”. We won’t be silent, we’ll keep reporting injustice, we’ll keep fact-checking and make sure that people also do the same, we’ll keep reporting fake/anti accounts, we’ll keep sending fan letters even if it is just 3 per month now we’ll keep buying merch, we’ll keep streaming songs, we’ll keep doing projects in their name, etc etc etc. 

I will never surrender.

Because they are worth fighting for.

NETFLIX: EVERYTHING NOW

[Trigger warning: the show is centred around the main characters recovery from her ed so that’s mentioned in this post.]

I am in love with this show. I just put it in as something to watch in the background whilst I did some light work and now I’m a day behind on it because I couldn’t. Stop. Watching! (and I couldn’t see the keyboard through my tears 😭).

I don’t even know where to start- it’s been so long since I’ve seen a show and seen myself in so many of the characters and seen people I know in those character as well. In an emotional sense, a situational sense and a physical sense I literally found Cam so jarring just because he reminds me so much of two people i know.

The Script Dialogue ?

🎶 For the first time in forever 🎶 the script, written about gen z, using terms and reference of the youth, didn’t. Feel. Forced. IN ADDITION, they used reference that weren’t just globally relevant but phrases and references that are very British/Londoner gen z!

“Are you not embarrrrassssed? This is emberaasssing” - perfectly used.

I also love how there’s no pressure to announce their sexuality, everyone is just them. I’m straight, so my opinion on this means nothing in comparison but I love that. l can see why coming out is important to many and a needed process to go through but I also know many people would rather not and just love and live and from an ally’s perspective I feel like this perspective of LGBTQ+ stories are so refreshing. The kids are freely figuring themselves out with no judgement, as they should be.

The Music Choices ?

First things first because I need to point this out for people not from London who have or are looking to watch the show. These kids come from rich families- and I mean RICH. They’re not from old money wealth (like Young Royals) but they live in modern detached houses located in zone 1 more or less (that’s already worth like £1M+ range), have cars that I know for a fact definitely don’t abide by ULEZ so they defo pay extra, AND have back gardens??? Mad.

But why is this relevant? To be honest I don’t know how to word this but, the house music at the house parties, the drops of garage, when Cam was in his home and working out and they played Cench, my first thought was “Cam is defo the type of boy to know all the words to all Cench’s songs and then rap the words with vim, as if he’s from ends 😂” (translation: “ends” = “the hood”, think Top Boy).

The music choices accurately depict today UK youth and it’s not just music that fits their lives or their characters progression but instead rounds out the characters. For instance I listen to Pop Smoke despite not being able to relate to a lot of what he’s saying as I’m not from NY or live that lifestyle, but will I scream the lyrics? Yes. And that’s how I feel it is with these characters. The soundtrack was like a dip into their own spotify accounts!

AND WHEN THEY PLAYED “MY HOOD” BY RAY BLK ? I cried. That was my “bus ride to school” song in secondary school.

The Character Development ?

I haven’t routed for and been annoyed / pissed off to high heavens by / cringed for / cried for a bunch of characters in so long. I don’t want to say more about that because the show is very plot character driven and I don’t think I can explain what I mean without spoiling it.

What Got Me About The Show ?

Through the show I came to the conclusion that even when I was mad at the characters I couldn’t be completely mad because I knew where they were coming from and I knew they were struggling but still mad because it didn’t excuse or make it okay that they spread the pain. The only character that hadn’t done that I believe is Mia’s little brother (even though I myself really wanted him to give everyone what for).

As I am not someone with an ED I can’t fully relate and my two cents on this is worth nothing in comparison to those who have had the presence of an ED in their life in some way. But from my perspective I do believe that this show is very educational and brings great awareness to the mental side of it all. It’s very raw and real and unapologetically what it is.

I don’t really know how to end these things and tbf but I love this show and needed to express it especially since no one around me has watched it yet 😭.

My name’s Liv, I’m non-binary (they/them, but occasionally she/her or he/him depending on the vibe). I’ve got curly brown hair in an anime boy type hairstyle, hazel eyes, and glasses. I usually end up dressing business casual for work, but I also like flannel shirts and band shirts paired with leggings or jeans. I LOVE reading and getting books (and I work at a library so it absolutely does not help my obsession lol), and I love Studio Ghibli movies and Old Hollywood horror films! I am also obsessed with history and am actually going to grad school for it! I’m typically a bit quiet and tend to really focus in on something, but when I’m comfortable with a person I love to tell them about stuff I really enjoy. I love listening to music, and at present it’s been mainly kpop and rock, and also Ghibli soundtracks. I do have really bad anxiety and depression, and it’s a bit hard to get me out of my head when I’m in a thought spiral. But people have called me sensible in the past when it comes to providing advice about situations other people are experiencing, even though I clam up a lot about my own problems and worry a lot about bothering people and being a burden. I absolutely adore cats and would love to get one someday! I also like collecting crystals and trying out new things to cook (like lately I’ve been trying out Korean and Japanese recipes).

Our dear hobbit first lays eyes upon you in the bookshop, of course. You're there poring over a history tome he's never seen touched, straightening your spectacles and flipping the page to the next war account. You peer up, glasses sliding a bit down your nose as your hazel eyes meet Frodo's and you give a small smile. He is so used to encouraging others to take the first step- maybe it's his turn. Approaching you, he asks you what your interest is in that particular history and ends up spending the rest of his time in the shop there with you.

From that he learns you weren’t even there for war histories, merely getting distracted on your quest for a book on identifying crystals from your collection. Helping you find it, Frodo asks if you frequent this town, hoping so for it is right outside the Shire and Bilbo tends to run the odd errand there. Sure enough, that is you home no less, and with a smile the hobbit suggests you might show him around beyond the shop sometime. The shock on your face is quite adorable as you agree and offer to take him to your favorite spot.

Said favorite spot being a nook at the end of the river hidden away behind a collection of wide green trees. “I come here to read,” you tell the hobbit, “if you ever want to join, you can. Just keep it a secret, alright?” You wink and Frodo thinks he might spontaneously combust. Join he does, though, bringing stacks of books from Bag End he thinks you might enjoy. He starts trading you old books for your library job for the stones you find or even goodies you’ve baked up. All of the Shire are positively foaming to meet this infamous Liv and get their hands on some of their exotic treats, but Frodo never gives up your little secrets…

It is behind those very trees where you share your first kiss, Frodo surprising you with a different offering: a rose quartz piece Gandalf had given him some years back. Arching a shy brow, you ask him if he has ever heard the significance of this stone, and flushing, he nods. As if tugged in by a string you two are moving in sync, lips meeting behind the cover of waving branches. Frodo’s hand snakes ever-so-shyly around your waist and you can hardly help smiling into the kiss. Heads may shake as he walks hand in hand with you down Shire lanes, but he’s a Baggins- what else do they expect? The smile of amusement and pride across his face has you shaking your own head, but fondly, lovingly.

After the destruction of the One Ring, Frodo is different. You understand. Both of you know intrinsically the feeling if a spiral, even the look of its onset, and what the other needs. Silence, space, a warm touch, weight, a distraction, an embrace. Whatever the answer, Frodo only cracks a smile in those moments when that sensible caring side of you he loves so much comes out. After all, it is amazing how giving you are especially during your own fights. When darkness is closing in, you are his reminder that there is light and good in the world, just like Sam. When depression takes you, he can only hope his approach is half as good, half as inspiring. Giving up is so tempting, but in the face of a loved one, both of you realize there is hope you cannot yet throw away. Even if it is something small as feeling each other’s lips upon your forehead again or the easy way your limbs tangle as you read together, life is worth fighting for. Frodo may have saved Middle-Earth, but you, Liv, saved him.

hi everyone!

popping in here to say hi 😊 I’m a technology-challenged person who has no idea how to use Tumblr but I’ll give it a whirl. I was motivated to make this account so I could talk about The Outsiders Musical with other fans. The Outsiders has been my favorite book for over a decade and holds a very special place in my heart. Musicals are my favorite thing in the whole world so when I heard they were making the musical, I was super excited but nervous if they would pull it off. I am unable to see the musical in person but have obsessively listened and consumed all available content related to it and it’s safe to say they very much pulled it off! Wanted to especially shout out @throwing-in-the-towel who has provided so much detail about the show and answered my many questions. I LOVE the cast and am really excited to continue to follow their careers after this show. Fun fact- I went to college with Brent Comer! He graduated 2 years ahead of me but I saw him in our schools performances and was very impressed by him. ✨The main reason I’m making this post is because I’ve seen a lot of people wondering how to get the script and audio of the musical. I don’t really believe in visual bootlegs as they are distracting to the actors and audience members but very much support audio recordings for people who aren’t able to see the show in person. After some internet sleuthing, I obtained the script and full audio of the Broadway show. I am more than happy to share this with anyone who is interested, just message me.✨

I will also use this account to cross post my ao3 stories. Over a decade ago (I’m probably a fair bit older than most of the kiddos on here), I wrote a story for The Outsiders on fanfiction.net that actually became fairly popular. I forgot about it for years but the musical resparked my interest in writing and I remember it. It is SO cringey to read now all these years later but since people seemed to enjoy it, I am considering revamping it. I have been working on something new for the last few weeks that I will begin posting on ao3 within the next week. I’m pretty excited about it and look forward to hearing y’all’s thoughts if you’re interested!

You said that part of the fun of old fandom was making backstories for the characters. did you have one for Leon? what was it?

oh boy. this feels so... self-indulgent and cringey now in modern-day fandom, after having dedicated so much time to arguing what is or isn't canon and having to explain multiple times, at great lengths, that the mafia backstory is not canon and why it's not. my brain is just like "shut up and just be glad that people are starting to listen to you at all."

I've mentioned a few of them here and there sporadically over the past few months, so some of these are going to sound very familiar to people who have been following me for a while, but

this is basically the backstory I've come up with for Leon and have been using for mmmm around 20 years, give or take (though I tweaked some slight things to account for Remake Leon, which I'll also note):

● grew up in a suburb around the Hartford, CT area

● only child

● very religious/uptight Catholic mom, dad was basically Mike Cosgrove from Freakazoid

● like seriously, the personalities of his parents couldn't be more different, to the point where it almost doesn't make sense to anyone on the outside looking in how they ended up together at all. but his mom really loves how stable and grounded her husband is and appreciates his really awful sense of humor, and dad fell in love with his wife's cooking and the way she actually laughs at his jokes and the fact that she really believes in something greater than herself -- because he doesn't, and he wishes he did. they also share a taste in music, surprisingly.

● "Scott" is a family name, but Leon's dad was already "the third" and he was like "you really wanna put this kid through being 'the fourth'? that's stupid. just make it his middle name." Leon has never told a single person in his adult life this, but his parents and his very early childhood friends (up until about middle school) actually called him "Scottie" -- because "Scott" was his dad. (yes this headcanon was born directly from how funny I find the whole "Mr. Scott Kennedy" shit in OG RE4 and I'm not sorry) mom's name is Carol.

● mom was a middle school geography teacher (and CCD teacher). dad was a cop (he was bASICALLY COSGROVE)

● was always closer with his dad than his mom, despite the fact that his mom very clearly and very desperately wanted him to be a mama's boy. it wouldn't be quite correct to say that his mom was emotionally abusive, but she definitely didn't Get Him and very rarely actually listened to what he had to say -- she had a pre-constructed image in her head of the kind of person she wanted him to be, and anything that didn't fit that image was either questioned or ignored outright. (NOTE FOR REMAKE-VERSE LEON: this was even worse for Remake Leon, who has a lot more self-awareness than his OG counterpart and started to suspect that he may not be fully straight pretty early in life, even if his conservative upbringing didn't give him the language to express what, exactly, he was feeling. he had a crush on a boy once, vaguely mentioned it in a very roundabout way to his mom, and then spent the next like 10 years convinced he was going to hell. see here for a more in-depth explanation of how I view Leon's sexuality.) dad gave far less of a shit about who his kid was, so long as he wasn't doing dumb shit to get himself in trouble or arrested or something. as a result, Leon's really stupid sense of humor came from his dad, because they did spend a decent amount of time together. the two of them + Leon's uncle (dad's brother), who was maybe a little bit off his rocker, always went hunting once a year.

● was never super religious like his mom is, but still definitely believed. didn't pray regularly -- but prayed enough. he can pinpoint the exact moment that he lost his faith, though: when, while in Raccoon City, he first considered suicide -- and he realized that he was looking not to God for salvation, but to his gun. even as an adult, he won't outwardly classify himself as an atheist, but his general feelings towards God and faith are: "if God is up there, He's not listening anymore."

● wasn't ever super popular in school, but was never an outcast loser nerd, either. he was just kind of... there. he had his own little circle of skater kid/grungecore and metalhead friends, and they just kind of did their own thing.

● dabbled in some arts stuff here and there in high school and college, but never in a serious way and never for any great length of time. he was more of a math nerd than anything else. but he spent like, half of a school year involved with the lit mag and, despite being a not terrible poet and short story author due to having an inherently romantic nature, dropped it pretty fast out of disinterest. tried being involved with the school paper, dropped that within a year due to disinterest. thought about picking up the guitar because some of his friends were musicians, but never committed to it. the only thing that ever stuck was an interest in film; he spent a decent amount of time in the A/V club and really enjoyed the editing process. probably would've majored in it in college if not for his far greater interest in criminal justice, so he just kept doing it on the side for fun. took some electives for it in college, at the very least, and worked on some student films. mostly horror films, which is ironic to him in hindsight.

● did not go into criminal justice because of his dad; it's just a coincidence that he ended up being interested in the same field that his dad worked. Leon has always had a problem with bullies and was that guy in high school who inserted himself into situations that didn't involve him, just to stand up for someone else. got in only a handful of fist fights as a result of this, and the extent of the scolding from his dad was "knock it off. quit screwin around. you screw around too much." in the most non-committal, "don't actually stop though" tone possible, followed by taking him to get burgers. his mom lost her mind any time he got sent home from school for fighting, though -- and the one time he actually ended up suspended was Literal Hell for that full week. but, either way -- for him, growing up with a very positive opinion of law enforcement to begin with, criminal justice seemed like a natural fit.

● beyond the few times he got in trouble for fighting (in fights he never started and always won), the worst trouble he ever got into was that time his mom found out that he and his friends snuck beer into a Green Day concert in 1994. that was also the first time she learned that her 17-year-old son was already drinking. he got grounded until graduation.

● after getting hired at the RPD but before actually able to move out there (in late August, roughly), he did go out to Raccoon City to try to land an apartment so that he'd be ready once he actually did move. he filmed most of that week-long trip in a sort of self-documentary style and edited it all together with the intention of giving it to his parents before he left, in case they started to miss him -- so that they could see where he was and who he'd likely be hanging around with and all that stuff, because he is a Good Boy. he ultimately never finished the very last part of it because of the phone call he got to stay away from the city a week prior to his move, and he soon forgot he'd ever made something like that at all. his mom found it a few months later while cleaning up his room, which she did frequently as a grief response "so that it'll be ready for him when he comes home."

● to date, Leon's family and friends from back home think he died in Raccoon City. the CIA kept a tight leash on where he went and who he spoke to for the first four years of his captivity -- he basically didn't get freedom to live his own life until after Operation Javier. by the time he had the ability to call or visit home, he felt like it was too late -- that it'd be crueler to show up out of the blue after being "dead" for so long -- especially considering that he couldn't stay in their lives. he'd basically just be showing up to say "hey not dead" and then have to disappear again. so he just sort of... let it go. though, of all of the terrible things he's done in the time since then, this is the one thing that weighs heaviest on his conscience -- the one thing that he feels guiltiest about most often. but he continues to stay away, because he has nothing kind to say about the life he's lived or the man he's become. even if he were to go home now, he's convinced that his parents would not recognize their son.

● he doesn't know this, but there is an upright grave marker for him in a cemetery in his hometown dated 1977-1998. buried there is an empty casket with only a framed photo of him. his parents still lay flowers there twice a year: once on his birthday and once on the anniversary of Raccoon City's destruction.

General Leon backstory headcanons

this feels so... self-indulgent and cringey now in modern-day fandom, after having dedicated so much time to arguing what is or isn't canon and having to explain multiple times, at great lengths, that the mafia backstory is not canon and why it's not. my brain is just like "shut up and just be glad that people are starting to listen to you at all."

but

this is basically the backstory I've come up with for Leon and have been using for mmmm around 20 years, give or take (though I tweaked some slight things to account for Remake Leon, which I'll also note):

● grew up in a suburb around the Hartford, CT area

● only child

● very religious/uptight Catholic mom, dad was basically Mike Cosgrove from Freakazoid

● like seriously, the personalities of his parents couldn't be more different, to the point where it almost doesn't make sense to anyone on the outside looking in how they ended up together at all. but his mom really loves how stable and grounded her husband is and appreciates his really awful sense of humor, and dad fell in love with his wife's cooking and the way she actually laughs at his jokes and the fact that she really believes in something greater than herself -- because he doesn't, and he wishes he did. they also share a taste in music, surprisingly.

● "Scott" is a family name, but Leon's dad was already "the third" and he was like "you really wanna put this kid through being 'the fourth'? that's stupid. just make it his middle name." Leon has never told a single person in his adult life this, but his parents and his very early childhood friends (up until about middle school) actually called him "Scottie" -- because "Scott" was his dad. (yes this headcanon was born directly from how funny I find the whole "Mr. Scott Kennedy" shit in OG RE4 and I'm not sorry) mom's name is Carol.

● mom was a middle school geography teacher (and CCD teacher). dad was a cop (he was bASICALLY COSGROVE)

● was always closer with his dad than his mom, despite the fact that his mom very clearly and very desperately wanted him to be a mama's boy. it wouldn't be quite correct to say that his mom was emotionally abusive, but she definitely didn't Get Him and very rarely actually listened to what he had to say -- she had a pre-constructed image in her head of the kind of person she wanted him to be, and anything that didn't fit that image was either questioned or ignored outright. (NOTE FOR REMAKE-VERSE LEON: this was even worse for Remake Leon, who has a lot more self-awareness than his OG counterpart and started to suspect that he may not be fully straight pretty early in life, even if his conservative upbringing didn't give him the language to express what, exactly, he was feeling. he had a crush on a boy once, vaguely mentioned it in a very roundabout way to his mom, and then spent the next like 10 years convinced he was going to hell. see here for a more in-depth explanation of how I view Leon's sexuality.) dad gave far less of a shit about who his kid was, so long as he wasn't doing dumb shit to get himself in trouble or arrested or something. as a result, Leon's really stupid sense of humor came from his dad, because they did spend a decent amount of time together. the two of them + Leon's uncle (dad's brother), who was maybe a little bit off his rocker, always went hunting once a year.

● was never super religious like his mom is, but still definitely believed. didn't pray regularly -- but prayed enough. he can pinpoint the exact moment that he lost his faith, though: when, while in Raccoon City, he first considered suicide -- and he realized that he was looking not to God for salvation, but to his gun. even as an adult, he won't outwardly classify himself as an atheist, but his general feelings towards God and faith are: "if God is up there, He's not listening anymore."

● wasn't ever super popular in school, but was never an outcast loser nerd, either. he was just kind of... there. he had his own little circle of skater kid/grungecore and metalhead friends, and they just kind of did their own thing.

I've decided to write a letter or two while you're off tumblr. It's funny, and also I miss you, and maybe these will be nice to read when you get back. Expect some rambling, lol. As of writing this, it's been about a week and a half? since you last were on. Some stuff has happened since then.

I had my 17th birthday, for one. 17 doesn't feel too different from sixteen yet, but once school starts for me I think it will. At least one TGS update has been posted, I won't spoil any of them for you, though. I saw a fun animatic on Instagram Reels of Roman from Sanders Sides so now I'm watching through those videos. I've convinced another person to read TGS (tumblr user getyourpaybackwithsomepayback) and he's OBSESSED, lol.

I've done some writing, namely my first two TGS fics, which are on AO3 now. They shouldn't be too hard to find, since my ao3 account is linked in my bio, so if you want to read them, there they are! If you do read them, lmk what you think. I've also done some work on a vat7k fic that is slowly but somewhat surely progressing. I haven't written for my original stories much lately, not really sure why.

I started crocheting a cat blanket, it'll be a while before i finish but I'll send pics when I do, rest assured. I'm planning an Enjolras cosplay for Halloween, also, and I'll let you know how it goes. I hope you get a new phone soon, and I hope you're doing okay. I hope this isn't a super weird thing to do.

I've been re reading TGS out of order, mainly for fic research. It's hard to write fics in the canon timeline, while still adhering to canon, because so much happens, there's hardly room for background scenes. I think I'm being too meticulous about it, perhaps, as I also went on a google sidetrack for ten minutes trying to figure out what kinds of cookies were invented in the 1800s. Though, the research has always been one of my favorite things about writing, since learning random stuff I never would otherwise is really fun for me!

So the "that's a cover" thread reminded me of something sort of related. I grew up in the era where music was normally heard on the radio, unless someone had a cassette or LP of something, and they only told you the artists and titles of the songs you'd heard at the end of the set. Sometimes the beginning. Occasionally you'd hear songs other places - in stores, in school events, etc. - but there you didn't hear the name or artist at all. In short, you could very easily know a song by heart without knowing what it was called or who performed it. As example, when I was in high school there was a very popular song that could easily have been known as "You know, the one that goes 'Somebody told me that you had a boyfriend...'" The internet was only just becoming a Thing then, so the concept of "Googling the lyrics" wasn't a thing yet, and not just because Google was years away from being invented.

Time went on. I went through uni, graduated, got a job with a commute, and started listening to the radio instead of 'whatever music my friends introduced me to' again. It was then I learned that the one station that played almost exclusively things I liked didn't tell you the titles and artists at all, they made you go to their website to find out who you were listening to! My friend, I did not have time for that. I had a full time job, I had to make my own meals, etc. I did not have time to go to a website and try to remember in which hour I had heard the song with the lyrics "Somebody told me" so I could figure it out.

Of course, by this time Google was starting to be a thing, but "just Google the lyrics" wasn't instinct yet. We were still in HotBot mode and HotBot...went away for a reason.

One day I was walking down the street and I found a CD laying on the sidewalk in a busted up case. I picked it up and looked at it. Band name? The Killers. Unfamiliar. The title? Hot Fuss. Hmm. Not auspicious. Didn't sound like the sort of thing I normally listened to, but hey! Free CD. I took it with me figuring I'd a) see if it played and b) if it was worth keeping and if it was trash I'd turn it into a coaster. When I got home I wasn't in the mood to listen to new music, forget potential trash new music, so I set it aside.

It got slowly buried.

I forgot it existed.

The real estate bubble burst and I had to move out of my condo and into a house I hastily went in with Mum on. It got packed without anyone doing more than registering the fact it was a CD.

In the meantime, I wound up with a pest control operative's license. This had been encouraged so that I could talk more competently to customers on the phone, but it quickly because obvious the real reason it was so that I could ride around with unliscensed techs and make sure they didn't do anything illegal while we waited for them to be able to take their state test. Most of them were pretty competent, pleasant individuals, so it was mostly just kind of annoying because the managers could be kinda dicks about it. One of the guys was a huge, huge, huge music buff and we had similar taste, so we road around singing along with old favorites and he introduced me to some new stuff. He loved Mumford and Sons, so I learned their name. There was also another song that played that a lot on his station that was pretty obviously titled "Mr. Brightside". I mean, nothing else you'd call that song. At first I wasn't sure about it. I kinda liked it, I kinda didn't. It grew on me though.

By now, Google was firmly more than just an email service. The years when you needed an invitation to get a GMail account were gone and Google was starting to be the search engine of choice. YouTube had come on the scene. When I wanted to listen to "Mr. Brightside" at home, all I had to do was go to YouTube, look it up, and I could not only listen to it, but also learn that it was done by a band called The Killers. I also, courtesy of the side bar, discovered that they had done that song with the lyrics that went "Somebody told me" (and hey! Guess the song title! ...yeah, that wasn't hard...) and discovered and utterly fell in love with "Smile Like You Mean It". Since .mp3s were now something you could purchase, I bought them all.

One day I stepped on the floor of my office and it gave under my weight. Shit. Say what you like about renting, but unless your landlord is a slumlord, having someone else to pay the bills is nice. Just in time for Christmas we got to have my office refloored and, oh hey, several other things were no longer up to code, so that needed doing too. My whole life was basically shoved into the second bedroom. I was not pleased.

There was still a lot of clutter from the move in there, though, since someone else will finish unpacking for me after I've died of old age, so I took the time to sift through some of it. In the process, I found that CD I'd found on the sidewalk years ago. I immediately recognized it as 'that CD I found on the sidewalk years ago' and tried to remember the title and artist. Couldn't, except that it hadn't sounded promising. Needless to say I picked it up to have a look.

Yes, it still plays.

snopes.com. When I was younger (like.. 12-16. Early 2000s) I was SUPER into fact checking and rumors and being a smug little shit so I spent a lot of time reading articles on snopes to find out what things I'd always heard about weren't true. And also to learn what some of the urban legends/rumors/whatever were because I always felt out of the loop. I spent time on the forums, but I never had an account to post anything. Those forums were my first exposure to a lot of different kinds of people and opinions that have made me who I am. I grew up in rural East Tennessee with a conservative white family so I had a lot of ideas that weren't great. I wouldn't say that the forums were some kind of leftist paradise, but I learned that gay people, Democrats, transgender people, non-christians, feminists, people from other countries etc weren't all that different from me fundamentally. I learned that some of the things that I had accepted as "just the way it is" were actually debated hotly, and that the arguments on the "other" side made some sense. I learned about parts of history that I was never taught, and parts that I was taught wrong. I don't think I'd have ever made it to Tumblr or met any of my friends if I hadn't had that desire to "well actually" grownups who spread bullshit about 9/11

Gorillaz. All my childhood, I was a big fan of country music. LeAnn Rimes was my favorite singer of all time, but I also loved the Dixie Chicks and Kenny Chesney and Shania Twain. All of those 90s Country hit makers. Again.... Rural Tennessee! When I was in 6th grade, I had a friend on the school bus who was also a big pokemon fan like I was. She was also a fan of this new cartoon band called Gorillaz. I'd heard their songs before and I thought it was cool, but it wasn't "my kind of music". Well, long story short: I was moving away and nervously waited til my last day to tell her, but she was out sick and I never got to say goodbye. I felt so bad about it that I got the Gorillaz album lol.. ANYWAY, I don't listen to much country music anymore. I became a huge fan of Gorillaz, branched out into other similar acts (Blur, then other Britpop bands, then similar genres/influences of my favorites, etc). Nothing against country music, but the music I like now is a lot cooler imo... Plus, following Gorillaz fans here from Twitter is how I joined Tumblr in the first place.

Getting shitty grades in college. I started at a community college with the intention of transferring to the University of Tennessee Knoxville to get a marketing degree, but I was really bad at it. I had to retake a bunch of classes, and changed my major a few times (the 2008 recession scared me off of getting that marketing degree). By the time I was ready to transfer, UTK wouldn't take my GPA so I picked a cheap state university 4+ hours away with lower standards. Getting away from my hometown was so important for becoming more independent. Plus most of my friends are from the university I ended up attending. (I was bad at it there too, so lucky me! I was in school so long that I became friends with people who were still in high school by the time my "original" graduation date rolled around)

As for recurring dreams: probably the most common is a dream that I'm back in school and I realize I haven't gone to class all semester and I'm going to fail. (Guess what one of my biggest issues in college was? 🤣)

I dont think ive mentioned this at any point but Im actually really obsessed elisabeth but I cant engage with it at all or even think too hard about it without feeling like Im gonna start biting people. like, ive been making a lot of tanz der vampire posts and whenever one of my original posts gets interacted with I go and check the account because Im a freak like that and surprise surprise, people who like that musical also often like elisabeth, theres one account in particular who might even recognize me because its a fairly small fandom, and whenever I look at their account Ive always completely forgotten that they post a lot about elisabeth and I get jumpscared and have to very quickly click away as my heartrate inexplicably spikes for a second. I think the reason my brain is so weird about letting me enjoy it is that it is rpf and also german in origin. or well its from austria but you know what I mean. And i dont know why because its not like hamilton where all the songs slap but its weirdly patriotic so i dont really wanna watch it in full ever again, not only do all the songs in elisabeth slap but its also not patriotic as a whole, like thats the reason i was able to listen to it almost every day while taking the bus to school for about three months, i couldnt do that if it was weirdly patriotic yknow. Speaking of me listening to the soundtrack almost everday for three months, whenever I would do that I would imagine these elaborate and usually very romantic animatics in my head and thats perfectly fine but god forbid i wanna read a fanfic thats just a non-musical prose version of Die Schatten Werden Länger (Reprise) because like, no offense but what other kind of fanfic could you possibly write about this musical. Or maybe I just lack imagination idk

Also, speaking of the nature of this musical as rpf, because Death is the only character thats not like, real, hes the only character that I can read or write fanfic about, like I found a fic about him intracting with the von Krolocks and I liked it so much that I wrote my own oneshot about him having a weird tender moment with Herbert and I have ideas for like 3 more, which is kinda ironic because hes the character Im the most unwell about for all the obvious reasons and usually when Im this degree of unwell about a character i can hardly stand to even think about them but I guess the fact that I can already barely bring myself to think about the musical hes from kinda cancels that out

HI HI!!! My name is mehl or mel or whatever and I don't really care what pronouns you might use for me, though I usually go by they/she/he/it :))

I am 18 years old (yippieh, I guess)

My first language is not English and I often don't read my posts before I post them so there are lots of typos everywhere and probably a lot of grammatical errors :3

My favourite favourite bands are bears in trees, los campesinos!, mcr, hot mulligan and charmer but I'll pretty much listen to everything, as long as it tickles my brain in a fun way :D

In general I am in love with stardew valley, playing the bass (and SOMETIMES guitar) and pill bugs

I also sometimes draw (which WAS originally the reason I started posting on this account), but i kinda needed a big break after school. I am trying to get into drawing again, tho.

Random fun facts about me, i didnt quite know where else to put: I have 2 piercings (+earrings, so 4, if you count them), I am bi and ace (and incredibly single), I sometimes feel like I don't have a personality, I feel like I often adjust the little personality I have for literally everyone and that the rest are just symptoms of my adhd, i am vegetarian (which always surprises people that know me irl, not sure why), i have a jar in which I put nice things people said/wrote to me so I can look at them when i feel weird about myself and my favourite trees are birch trees :D

Also PLEASE feel free to message me or sending me asks (and/or recommendations for stuff (for example movies, music, manga, books) and I will love you forever). Though, little disclaimer: I AM awkward and WILL probably make you cringe (if you haven't killed the part of you that cringes yet. No shame tho. Because same. Though it IS sad.) I should probably preface this with the fact that I … don't really listen to music. I mean. I do? but only when I'm learning a language, obsessed for other reasons (songs connected to a shows I love, etc), or trying to drown out other noise out. I don't even have a spotify account.

That said, here are a few songs I've listened to often enough that I can sing along to them by now or even know them by heart. This selection ended up kind of sappy, lots of ballads … l do listen to rock and hip hop, too! but those don't feature that heavily in the shows as much, unless it's Tilly Birds and while I LOVE Tilly Birds, I figure everyone already knows them.

SO.

1. 邓丽君 《月亮代表我的心》 (Teresa Teng "The Moon represents my heart")

This is a bit of an odd one – I'd known it for 12 years at the point Moonlight Chicken unveiled it as a theme song, because it's a CLASSIC. I cannot make claims about whether it's a song every Chinese person knows, but it's definitely one of those songs every person who learned Mandarin Chinese as a foreign language in the past 50 years knows. It's heartfelt. It's devastatingly simple. It's an evergreen. I love it to bits.

2. 25hours ไม่เคย (Never)

This doesn't actually make an appearance as more as a mention: Pat suggests it as a song to play for the Christmas concert in one of the flashbacks to Pat and Pran's high school days in Bad Buddy. I was (still am, arguably) obsessed with the show, so I sought it out, and it hit me like a freight train, because ouch. This was the first Thai song I learned to sing by heart, and I love it lots, still.

3. 宇多田ヒカル 「Prisoner of Love」 (Utada Hikaru)

Since we're talking queer shows in general, I get to include this! "Prisoner of Love" is the theme song to one of my all-time favourite shows, "Last Friends" (2008). It's also a really lovely one for karaoke.

4. Q Flure กันและกัน (Each Other)

THE Love of Siam song. Stuck with me. I prefer the version in the movie, but dang, this is still powerful as all get out.

5. Billkin กีดกัน (Skyline)

The entire soundtrack to ITSAY and IPYTM is FIRE, but I had to go with the OG classic here. First song I tried to copy the lyrics out for in Thai. The Chinese version is also gorgeous.

i just drove 5 hours back to school alone and thought of this stupid au while listening to all of my liked songs on shuffle. here's my style gen z celebrity au:

-Stan Marsh: 23, cis man, bi

-Kyle Broflovski: 24, trans man, gay

-Stan's music has the same vibe as the neighbourhood, tv girl, alex g, and some front bottoms sprinkled in. his style is super inconsistent and he can never decide what he wants his "sound" to be

-Kyle's music has the same vibe as phoebe bridgers, boygenius, taylor swift's more acoustic stuff, and some gracie abrams. he has a really soft pretty voice but he low-key whisper sings sometimes which causes some people to discredit his vocal talent

-they are the messiest couple. no one can ever tell if they're together or not. there's a twitter account "are stan and kyle broken up rn?" and half of the daily updates are "we have no idea."

-stan hears kyle's voice for the first time when he's featured on some mainstream rapper's song (think lovin me by kid cudi ft phoebe bridgers) and he decides he needs him to sing backup vocals on one of his songs immediately right now

-but stan is a super pretentious and kind of dickish guy and wants him to feature on the track with no credit. kyle is also pretentious but in a different way and values his art too much and he says no

-stan has an ego but is not above begging. kyle comes storming into the studio when he's mixing one day and tells him to please leave he and his manager the fuck alone. stan falls in love right there and asks him to go to dinner with him

-kyle tells him he has a bf, and stan says "ok he can come too." kyle for some reason is super into that, and agrees only if stan will give him credit on the song

-kyle has kind of a taylor swift arc early in his career where people much older than him take advantage of him romantically. he's dating a 36 year old movie star when he first meets stan

-stan is the first one to tell kyle that men in their thirties preying on him when he was 19 was super gross and wrong

-after they hang out for the first time kyle breaks up with said movie star immediately 

-they are so enamored with each other so quick it gives everyone whiplash

-stan fell first but kyle def fell harder

-kyle keeps pretty private on social media but stan loves posting pics of him on his instagram

-stan is sort of grungy (dresses like kurt cobain, pete davidson, kind of looks stupid all the time) and kyle dresses more indie and put together (he also has a septum piercing)

-both of their fanbases hate the fact that they're dating. a lot of stan's fans think kyle is too stuck up for him and kyle's fans think stan is just gross (he is)

-its also this huge debate between the fandoms on who made who famous (it was low-key kyle boosting stan's career)

-they release a lot of duets together. they're all under stan's label and every time they fight and break up stan takes them off of streaming services

-they are both so petty and melodramatic and it makes everything so much more entertaining for the rest of the world

-they will help each other write break up songs about the other

-stan comes from a really broken family and has a lot of mommy AND daddy issues. becoming famous was really a sort of right place at the right time thing. kyle is a nepo baby and stan resents that so much even though he never admits it

-everyone has lost count, but for the record they have broken up and gotten back together 27 times

-they're both just unstable and fucked up people who refuse to go to therapy and when they're together they bond over that, but when they get into a fight they use it against each other

-one of the times they "break up" kyle sleeps with bo burnham. pics come out of bo leaving his apartment. its sort of a ross and rachel debate of whether or not they were actually broken up and single

-stan famously punches bo burnham in the face at a party. kyle takes him back immediately 

-but not before stan drops a song calling kyle a cheater (pretty much this). when he's asked about it in an interview kyle is petty af and says "it's obvious he wrote that one all by himself! :)"

-one time the paparazzi find randy outside of a liquor store and ask what he thinks of kyle. his reply is "who?" and people think he's being petty, but he genuinely forgets who he is. the video goes viral

-kyle thinks this is super funny and posts the video on his instagram feed

-stan isnt that close with either of his parents but he sends them both a check every month so he knows that they're financially stable

-he and his sister grew up in low-income housing (with their mom) and their grandparents house (with their dad)

-because of this stan gets really anxious about money even though he has plenty now. kyle grew up in Beverly Hills and was super wealthy and privileged. he and stan fight about money a lot

-kyle gets stans name tatted on his ass cheek. stan posts a super zoomed-in picture on his instagram story (they break up again 2 days later)
