there is something to be said about the fact that sten invites the warden with him to par vollen when the warden leaving right after the blight would be a neglection of their duties– and duty is something sten holds very sacred. the warden's job is not done at the end of the blight, especially if alistair was killed or made king. someone has to rebuild the wardens and deal with the lingering darkspawn. and still, sten offers the warden a way out. a way to relieve themself of that duty and choose a new path, which is something he previously was pretty adamantly against.

he will listen to your problems, your woes. he will sit next to you, take you in his arms, and soothe you merely by allowing you to speak. you've done the same for him, countless times- it is only good that he returns the favor, and he wants to. Childe wants to hear about everything that makes you angry, everything that causes you to weep. he cannot fix them, but he can treat you gently, kindly, let you know you're cared about.

and inevitably Foul Legacy will emerge, overcome with joined sorrow for you. he tries to keep his tears under control as he purrs, stuttering and nudging against you. he takes the droplets of your frustrations and wipes them away, flicking them into the air and making tiny whales swim around you so perhaps you can laugh and smile again. your Abyssal monster gathers you into his arms, resting your head on his lilac fluff and trilling gently, in reassurance and affection. no longer will you have to mend other's troubles while having everyone ignore your own.

why do like 90% reincarnation AUs always revolve around a romance. and SECOND of all why does everyone write the reincarnated to all have the same reaction of “oh crap… i remper… my hubsansb…” and they have a tearful reunion saying “i never thought id see you again”.

what about the slow burn of regaining bits and pieces of said old self! what about characters who try to push back and suppress the past self, trying to just carry on with their life! what about the characters that fully embrace their old self and are caught off-guard by their current self! what about the surrounding consequences of concern at said shifts in identity and attitude!!

what about the fear of losing someone, only to find that the outer shell was never “them” at all!

God I'm still thinking about that grey hair post I made a while back- and I can't stop thinking about Scar just going about his day when he notices something in his reflection- a gray hair.

It happens in secret life. And it's a very bittersweet moment. He never thought he'd get gray hairs. He thought he'd be long dead by now.

But he's still here. And he's still alone.
