Just something I need to get off my chest before I go back to basking in the moonfam’s storyline, but where was Callum’s internal conflict this season? I think the writers did a great job showing internal conflict for most characters, but then somehow dropped the ball with Callum, the main protagonist.
Ezran struggles with upholding his forgiving ideals when confronted with the man who killed his father. Rayla agonizes over betraying Ezran but decides her father's life means more than Ezran's well-being. Runaan begins to realize how badly he's failed his ideals and loved ones as the cracks in his ideology grow. But Callum spends most of the season falling over himself to say he’ll do ~anything~ for Rayla, including protecting the man who killed his dad, and betraying and abandoning his 12-year-old brother during a crisis.
And I don’t necessarily have a problem with that. Callum’s got a lot of abandonment issues with Rayla and I think it makes sense he’d protect Runaan and leave with her. What I can’t understand is why he doesn’t seem conflicted about this at all. Callum never reflects on Harrow or his killer, or what he’s put Ezran through by abandoning him. His life’s ambition is now to settle down in the Silvergrove and “get to know Ethari and Runaan better.”
Not to single out 7x05 "Sticky Fingers," but I sincerely want to ask about the scenes there. I enjoyed Callum's adventures in babysitting, they made me laugh. But I can’t understand why a whole episode of the main characters was devoted to what felt like filler when so many long-term character arcs were unresolved.
Just as an example, if the scenes of Silvergrove-Fun were replaced with:
A scene where Ethari and Rayla pair off to gather food for their Feast, leaving Callum with Runaan. Ethari apologizes to Rayla for Ghosting her and tells her that she will always have a home there. He says that she and Runaan have been gone too long, and when Rayla asks if Ethari's upset at Runaan for leaving, Ethari says he isn't, though Runaan's apologized enough for it, because Ethari knows he never meant to break his promise.
Meanwhile, Callum takes the opportunity to privately confront Runaan about killing Harrow and trying to kill Ezran, foreshadowing Runaan's crisis of faith.
Finally, Rayla and Callum get to talk in the evening and Rayla apologizes for breaking her promise to search for Viren with Callum (from Through the Moon). She thought she was protecting him by striking out alone, but she should have trusted him to make his own choice (Terry-Claudia breakup callback). Callum forgives her and then they get to have a cute date trying Moonberry Surprise or something.
It would have resolved two long-running relationship arcs, foreshadowed the resolution of Runaan's character arc, and reminded the audience of Harrow and Callum’s love for his family even after he abandoned Ezran.
And I truly wish I could find a way to ask the showrunners about these writing decisions in a polite, non-confrontational way. The writers apparently had a note to “find the humor,”  but was comic relief and teasing future Rayllum babies for a currently nonexistent Arc 3 considered more important than addressing what should be major sources of tension between the main couple (how Rayllum deal with her father killing his, the Moonshadow values that led to Rayla originally leaving Callum)? I’d be sincerely curious to get the writers’ thoughts on this. If anyone would like to chime in I’d genuinely appreciate your time and effort.
Loose plot threads may be resolved in Arc 3, but the time to address these character arcs was now, but they went unexamined. And unlike the unresolved plot threads, I fear if they didn't resolve them now then I don’t have high hopes for hypothetical Arc 3.

Jess Watches // Tues 28 Jan // Day 476 & Wed 29 Jan // Day 477 Synopses & Favourite Scenes & Poll
The Dragon Prince 7x05 Sticky Fingers
Desperate to stop Claudia, Terry exposes Aaravos' terrible plans. Amaya appeals to Karim one last time, while Callum and Rayla share a peaceful moment.
Oh, to return home with my partner to the Silvergrove. To reunite my dads and celebrate with Moonberry Surprise. To be bombarded with questions from the cutest little moon cubs. 🥰
The Old Man (with mum) 2x02 IX
Emily Chase learns of her true identity as the daughter of Faraz Hamzad while outside forces threaten her and her new family.
Emily watching Faraz sing to her as a child and it unlocking long forgotten memories of where she was born and how much she was loved. 😭
Love Next Door (with L) Ep 16 The End (Finale)
Seung-hyo and Seok-ryu, in a loving relationship, look forward to a life together. They motivate each other in pursuing their aspirations.
Misuk and Hyesuk being married in a previous life 👀. Lavender ladies indeed. I was relieved Moeum was fully supported in going to the North Pole (or South icr?) and I really appreciated the small detail of her never wearing a dress and it never once being noted. This ep would've been much more satisfying had it started with the argument and finished with his parents wedding. Still, a lovely end (and beginning) to their story.😍

Final 3 GOT Episodes Have Lots to Cover
Sure, they took care of the Night King last episode, took care of a few of Melisandre’s prophecies but they have lots more they hinted at that they have to fly through to cover...
Confrontation with Cersei, what would be her 4th child
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But I will be Queen?
Oh yes. You’ll be Queen, for a time. Then comes another. Younger, more beautiful, to cast you down and take all you hold dear.
Will the King and I have children?
No. The King will have 20 children. And you will have three.
GOT 5x01
This other death
Tumblr media
I have to die in this strange country. Just like you.
GOT 7x03
(and just realized I can’t find my gif from 7x02 so just text it is Danny/Varys:)
And I swear this. If you ever betray me, I’ll burn you alive.
I’d expect nothing less from the mother of dragons.
GOT 7x02
This promise
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Brings to mind the work of Jamie Holdstone, the charlatan who claimed descent from the children of the forest.
Don’t forget Lodos who promised that the Drowned God would rise up and destroy Aegon the Conqueror.
GOT 7x05
I don’t mock the Drowned God. I am the Drowned God.
 GOT 6x02
Your mother was Lyanna Stark, and your father, your real father was Raegar Targaryen. You’ve never been a bastard. You’re Aegon Targaryen, true heir to the Iron Throne.
GOT 8x01
And this (very much hopeful she and Gendry go off exploring since another heir or not he’s not had any good experiences with that nonsense, though as ‘prolific’ as his father was Arya is likely already on the way with a Baratheon-Stark heir and I’d assume he has a stronger claim as a son of the Bobby B. than the deposed Targaryens)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You will marry a High Lord and rule his castle. And your sons will be knights, and princes, and lords. No. That’s not me.
GOT 1x04   Where will you go? Essos is East, and Westeros is West. But what’s west of Westeros? I don’t know. Nobody does. It’s where all the maps stop. The edge of the world maybe. I’d like to see that.
GOT 6x08
As many times as she’s said she’d kill Cersei I don’t think that one is dying off in this series. Brought down a few notches, not actually having a child, put in that room with the Shame lady/Septa Unella, sure, but actually dead? No.
I know the plot armor won’t protect all my favorites/ships but if they’re going to make any of those deaths meaningful they have to hurry up, have less long brooding stares off into the distance/creepy dragon and Bran spying, and pick up that pace.

Watching 7x05 "Sticky Fingers" I have to wonder what Callum was thinking when he said he wanted to "get to know Ethari and Runaan better."
Callum tries to make small talk with Runaan:
Callum: So, how was your weekend? Runaan (not looking up from his meal): That's classified.
Callum gets his hands on Historia Viventem and sketches Runaan and Ethari's wedding (from the End Credits):
Ethari: Oh, this is beautiful Callum, may we keep this? You're very talented, thank you! Runaan: Why would you pry into our history like this? (To Ethari under his breath) What else is he seeing on our wedding night?
Callum wanders into their kitchen early one morning to find Runaan shirtless with several bruises to his neck and chest. Callum makes some comment along the lines of "Rough night?" when it dawns on him that he's either implied Runaan
a). killed someone last night, or b). got very laid last night, and any attempts to clarify will dig him deeper. Runaan's silent, inscrutable stare does not help and Callum stammers something about eating breakfast outside and bolts. It's raining. Runaan leaves him outside for 10 minutes until Ethari comes down, scolds Runaan, and lets him in.
But in all seriousness, I think they missed a major opportunity to have Callum and the moonfam grapple with some of the darker aspects of Moonshadow culture and their family. You want to get to know them better, Callum? You will find the very selfless, very dutiful war criminal who killed your dad, and the man who happily and knowingly married him.
Ethari (over dinner, stroking Runaan's hair): We don't travel much outside our borders, Runaan's wanted in many international jurisdictions. Though they don't know it's him, he's never been caught. Runaan (catches his hand, kisses it softly): Only once. Ethari: (closes his eyes) Only once... (recovers) Another slice of Moonberry Surprise, Callum? Callum (softly but with a lot of feeling): What the f—

For me it's how relaxed and unfazed Callum looks, tbh. He doesn't get flustered, he doesn't even take a second to be surprised and collect himself. It 100% confirms to me that he and Rayla have either had a discussion (even loosely) about how they want children someday, or it's something that at least Callum has given enough thought to that the idea of it is something he finds comfort and happiness in, and that's just so incredibly sweet

She gives him a censored version of the events on the Kingsroad, leaving out the part about roasting the Tarlys alive. She only tells him that many former Lannister loyalists lined up behind their rightful Queen, hint hint. Half-joking, Dany points out that, for one, she has dragons. Let’s be honest, if this whole Army of the Dead is as flammable as they say, whoever has the fire-breathing dragons should probably be Queen. Jon laughs. He doesn’t think the throne should go to the person with the most dragons, necessarily. Why not? she wants to know. Dragons are magic. People like magic. A big part of the reason they named Jon King in the North was because he was magic. Jon protests; that wasn’t the reason. But Dany keeps needling him. “Admit it. People like you because you’re magic.” “I’m not magic.” “You are! Rising from the dead is magic, and you rose from the dead. Allegedly.” “What?” “I never saw you rise from the dead. Lots of people saw me walk from the flames unburned. More than once, actually. But this ‘rising from the dead’... it was a very private affair.”
GoT - Preliminary Outline 7x05
I still can't believe that, in the preliminary outline, Melisandre told Daenerys everything in episode 3: how Jon was killed and brought back to life, about the white walkers, the army of the dead, that Jon is the prince who was promised and so on... And Daenerys immediately thinks of Jon as an adversary, unable to support the idea that there is someone else than her.
Then, after burning the Lannisters, she censors her story and turns it into propaganda: many soldiers have joined my side because I'm amazing! Most interesting in this scene is the fact that Daenerys imagines that Jon was crowned king because of his "magic". As if you had to be someone extraordinary, like a god, so that people would choose you. This clearly shows that she has a dangerous vision about merit and that she and Jon will never get along.
It is also funny to see that initially the showrunners had expected that Jon speaks a lot in the presence of Daenerys (he speaks about Sam, Sansa, he laughs, defends himself...). But finally, to show the beginning of a beautiful romance they decided to cut off all of Jon's dialogues. Interesting.

Let’s talk about “Eastwatch” (7x05)
Gendry is back!
I'm thrilled that Gendry is back and I only hope that they will not kill him the next episode because without Gendrya reunion it would be really cruel. I'm glad that he told Jon about his father and that they bonded but really? No mention of Arya? Jon does not know but Gendry knows she's Jon's sister. Like he's not even gonna ask if he does not know if she's alive? I do not know why he did not ask Thoros and Beric, they were the last people she saw with her. That dissapointed me.
But what lighted my spirit was Gendry's warhammer he forged himself. Did you notice the deer antlers? I can not help myself but that head seems to me more like bull's than deer's. Which would be really cool because I think that if one day Jon legitimizes Gendry, he should make his own sigil. Would not it be amazing if it was a bull with deer antlers?
Tumblr media
Stark sisters - reality or camouflage?
I can’t help myself but I think that that argument Arya and Sansa had was for Littlefinger’s sake. Otherwise why would they leave the door open and it looked like it came out of nowhere. And I am sorry but Arya spying on Littlefinger? That was so poorly done. She is not an amateur to get caught like this, it was like that time in Braavos, too obvious. No, I think the sisters want Baelish to think that he is winning and that he set a wedge between them and then they will strike when he is not expecting it.
Also why would anyone trust a letter Sansa wrote years ago when Cersei was looking over her shoulder and didctating it? Arya is not stupid, she knows Sansa had no choice and she knows that she hated Joffrey even more than she did (and Arya doesn’t know the whole story of what he did to Sansa). But what she does know is that Sansa saw their father’s execution, she saw everything. Anyone with a little brain would not believe a word of that letter.
Jon’s true parentage is confirmed!
First he bonds with Drogon, which is probably also the reason why is Daenerys so nice to him. Because let’s face it, anyone whom her dragons like, she likes too. And then Gilly gives us the information that Rhaegar divorced with Elia and remarried with Lyanna. Thus Jon is not a bastard but rightful heir to Iron Throne.
I was wondering if Elia knew and agreed to that annulment, but considering the fact that Rhaegar and Lyanna were married in Dorne and the Tower of Joy, where Jon was born, is in the Dorne I think she knew. And not only that, maybe she even persuaded her brother Prince Doran to hide them. Otherwise why would they go there? If Rhaegar cheated on Elia with Lyanna why would he go to Elia’s homeland, where everyone would recognize the Targaryen prince with his silver hair, why not to go to Dragonstone or Essos? That just doesn’t make sense. No, I think that Elia and Rhaegar came to the idea of divorce together, maybe even Elia fell for someone else too.

GOT 7x05 Thoughts
This was an episode of some pretty big and game changing revelations. Jaime is alive, but that was to be expected. Dany gets the Lannister army that is left to bend the knee by burning Randall and Dickon Tarly. An effective move, but not exactly one for someone who does not want to become like her father. That being said, this is war, and wars have casualties. Jon met Drogon. I definitely think the dragon see the Targaryen in Jon. Dany was as surprised at Drogon as Jon was. And speaking of Targaryen, Rhaegar and Lyanna were married! My reaction to this was the same as when Jon’s parentage was revealed: jaw-dropping and freaking out. Jon is officially no longer the bastard of Winterfell but the true born son of Lyanna Stark of Winterfell and Prince Rhaegar of House Targaryen. This was revealed by Gilly when she spoke of a Maester who annulled Rhaegar’s marriage and married him to someone else in Dorne. Sam, who was frustrated with how he was being treated at Oldtown didn’t catch this. He and Gilly ended up leaving, but not without some scrolls and books that will most likely turn out to be very helpful. In King’s Landing, Tyrion met with Jaime and Cersei is pregnant. Cersei also now knows that Olenna killed Joffrey. As expected, Cersei wished Olenna had died screaming. In Winterfell, Arya had her murder-face on and said face was directed towards Littlefinger. Arya finds a letter that was given to him by the Maester. This letter was from Sansa and was asking Robb to pledge fealty to King Joffrey. I don’t know if this will change anything between Arya and Sansa, at least not permanently. Jon received a raven from Bran and goes to East Watch. He is joined by Jorah (who arrived at Dragonstone earlier in the episode), Davos, and Gendry who had finally stopped rowing. At the East Watch, they join up with Tormund and the Brotherhood Without Banners who had been prisoners there. The episode ended with them going beyond the Wall.
