(Another) Desert Vignette

Tula is looking up at the sky, squinting at the stars through tissue-paper clouds, the atmosphere gone faint hellfire above the distant city lights, a rolling-Earth harbinger of terrible orange-red. One may think the wildfires won. One may think of calamity. One may think: Three hours until certain death.

The suburbs dissolve beneath their feet as they venture farther from San Narciso. Out here, the scrubby hills and city repose together on the landscape. Slums somewhere, too, sloughing off the edges of everything.

"We could just run." Silk scuffs their boots. They inhale just to snort. "Hay unos veinte kilómetros, algo así. Maybe we even make it back." A leathersounding shrug. "That's a joke."​

In the moonlight, Silk's lashes cast heavy shadows over their eyes. She follows the darkness to the hollow beneath their cheekbones, between their parted lips, behind their tongue. She touches the bite marks on her wrists. Red, raw and open, glistening, but they don't bleed. They don't hurt.

The desert is always half dream. In the distance, a coyote screams into the night's silence and rouses a chorus, offering their unearthly din to the moon's slow descent. She's seen Luna there before: the tall, whip-thin silhouette on a distant hill, surrounded by her pack. But not tonight. We could just run. One of Tula's fingertips presses into her wound, splitting it obscenely open. It does not bleed, but it hurts.

(She shrugs, not-quite-smiling. "I'm sure there's a car trunk somewhere along the way…")

Her throat feels tight. She lifts her wrist to her lips, tonguing the puncture like a child, an animal. The warm, saltmetal taste sits on the tip of her tongue.

Silk is looking at her, all sleepy eyes and strange, hard beauty. Tula is looking at them too, eyes wide and rich-girl hungry above her wrist. Their jacket has fallen open, framing a starved waist and soft hips. The bones of their sternum between the halter's illusion of breasts. The excruciating shadow of hair trailing several inches below their navel. The profanity of their shorts, the way they pull tight around their hips and thighs. She wants to push them down to the ground. Make them say her name. Make them moan her name. Make them say it, say it…

Tula jerks herself back; her wrist falls away guiltily. "Just hungry," she dismisses the moment, shrugging like Silk shrugged, her shame hidden with a scowl. They could never outrun it, neither one of them.

Sp villains at christmas hcs!

Because I have many, many thoughts

They arent meant to celebrate it because, you know, blasphemy

But in modern aus it's kind of hard to ignore

Especially since rose and eliza have decided they loves Christmas music

Mevolent banned it being played before December 10th

And so rose waits until exactly 12:01 to blast it across the castle

No one enjoys being woken up or in nefarians case disrupted from his work by Mariah Carey

And no one protested when rose is chased out by a very pissed off vile

Speaking of vile, he is seasonal depression in human form

They usually give gag gifts if they give anything

This was stopped when mevolent was gifted lingerie

No one has a clue how Nefarian found it in his size

None of them really like Christmas movies, they are all too wholesome and cute for their taste

But Nefarian and serafina argue about whether die hard is a Christmas movie or not

Nobody really cares other than them, but it is entertaining to watch their arguments at the breakfast table

Nefarian, eliza and the Diablerie watched Jim Carey's the grinch once

And they quote it daily

Serafina spend this time of year with the unveiled

And Mevolent, vile and baron basically move out until January

None of them want to deal with the household wine drunk on Christmas eve

And getting even more drunk on Christmas day

All of them grumble about how "sinful" and "blasphemous" the holiday is

That has never stopped them though

Something I recently noticed about AA when you're playing Durge that smacked me full force with psychic damage and may have contributed to the divorce in that playthrough: He sounds like Bhaal. Not one for one, but enough that I tend to arch a brow now and then.

Addressing you with a very similar condescending/infantilising tone, like from the journal entries or some of the stuff Sceleritas says:

Bhaal: 'Special, yes, special aren't you? Ssh, don't fight [me/yourself/us].' - Astarion: 'I'm so lucky I crash-landed next to such an intelligent creature as you. We make a fine team, don't we?'

or:

Bhaal: 'You are to be given a gift. It is a valuable prize, one that you had better appreciate.' - Astarion: 'You are my consort, and I will see you living the very best life. Even if you don't appreciate it.'

But it's strongest to me here (and was possibly the first time I noticed the parallel):

Bhaal: 'You are my spawn. Your veins course with my unholy blood. Your life is mine.' - Astarion: 'Don't be stupid, darling. You're mine, remember? The tadpole is gone, which means your future is mine to decide.'

And Durge is not necessarily unaware:

Durge: 'Pathetic. You sound worse than my Father.'

There's also 'Hello, my sweet little spawn,' because of course now you're Bhaal's spawn and Astarion's spawn and the vampiric sire-childe relationship is explicitly described as a murderous parent-child one in some sources, so unfortunately, yes the guy who sounds a bit like your dad is your vampire dad.

Also the thing where both can directly control you and keep going on about bloodlust and world domination.

And then I get the psychic damage because the link is forged in my brain now and the idea of Astarion triggering daddy issues made me choke on my drink. Just, nah. Maybe that works for other people, whatever floats your boat, but I'm... nah. 'Tis not for me. I'll stick with the gods with their ancient age and higher power level who are better at manipulation.

Charlie asking "Do you want look for a vampire?" in ep 3 when Arthur almost goes into a frenzy at the house scene w Emizel. It Makes so much more sense now why Charlie asked if he wanted to feed off a vampire.

In the context of ep 6 with Arthurs book, and how all the pages were of the people he killed. Because besides his family's names - the rest of the names were all vampires.

I guess it's just a neat detail :]
