Prompt #1: A step forward

Clear waves sloshed against the wooden hull. A cool breeze swirl in raven hair twisting up to into the canvas. Feet dangled in the open air rotating with the movement of the sea.

Fresh start. At least a new beginning, a direction. She had been lost in thought and indecision for many moons she wondered if she'd ever find a way out. Perhaps cautiously optimistic that she wouldn't need to watch her back as closely... He had her back, even if she hadn't asked she knew he would know if anything changed.

New contract, new face, new trust... regardless of where this led her it was rolling her forward. Back where she felt at peace, doing what she was good at. It's exactly where she was suppose to be, except... No it was good but... it's the present not forever. Ride the surf until she's called to the shore once more.

in my head like, dark is the raw stuff of narrative and imagination, the loose clusters of ideas and thoughts - dreams, etc - while light is the rules and the structure that holds it all together into something coherent with goals and a narrative arc (hopes etc). dark fountains basically draw out raw dreams and anchor them to the solidity of light. this also means that as we go deeper/whenever there's fountains in fountains things will get progressively more surreal

#light world is raw rules (reality or as close as can be approached to it from within the system) - nothing has Story to it #it simply is as it is #this is sort of me meditating on being asked abt the ocean stuff earlier. i realized i do have this one thought #the darkest dark is fluid and malleable in nature #go below that and eventually all nullifies out w the ideas so formless they dissipate #forming a space open to but devoid of dark and light both...#a space where something brighter than bright can be reached #and the light world be remade beneath #but thats more obscure.

Mermaid Melody: Here are two characters who you, personally, will think have the best designs of the show. They're very cool. One of them wears a studded choker and studded armlets. They both have those cool fish fin things on the sides of their heads.

Mermaid Melody: They are canonically lesbians and are in a loving, committed relationship.

Me: Even better.

Mermaid Melody: One has a red color scheme and the other blue...except the red one has blue eyes and the blue one has red eyes.

Me: Omg, I love that.

Mermaid Melody: They have the healthiest relationship of all the couples in the show. One of them does something that means almost certain death for the two of them and, instead of getting mad, the other one expresses soft concern but otherwise explicitly trusts that the other had a good reason for what she did.

Me: Wow, trust like that is rare to see in any show. You know, you're listing so many perfect things about them, I can't help but feel like there's a "but" coming up, lol.

THAT #so totally my jam #ocean eco horror #so beautifully filmed #like really look at that lighting and colourgrading #so beautifully calibrated to be neither garish nor underwhelming #i haven't seen that in a recently made film for AGES #even in the darkest scenes there was enough lighting and colour #that i could see exactly what was going on #DO YOU KNOW WHAT SWEET RELIEF THAT IS #the only gif i really changed the colouring of #is the first #everything else is pretty much exactly how it appears in the film #and i really loved the blend of scientific footage #and unabashed ImageryTM #plus excellent female protagonist #she was clever and calm #and only got super emotional when it was actually warranted #and that ending was perfection #what a goddamned gift of a film #this is why i watch so much random horror #to find gems like this #also thanks to the Letterboxd reviews that led me to it #totally checking out what else Jeffrey A Brown has done #he is now on my list of Good Filmmakers

LIIIIKKEEE its so overwhelming i dont think its really hit me yet that thats what tang bo looks like.. hes so handsome i feel dizzy.. lico once again proving theyre unmatched in the character diversity department.. tang bo and the rest of the tang family could have very well looked like average faced nobodies but lico puts so much care into every face, even comical ones, without making them feel like caricatures or stereotypes.. its the combination of the sharp eyes/monolids, the upturned eyebrows, the charming single dimple.. so perfect..its all so perfect.. everyone say thank u lico team for picking up rotmhs cuz if it had been any other studio i mightve never gotten into it
