I breathed A Couple of Sighs of Relief after watching The Couple Next Door (no spoilers)

I was hoping.. so hard.. that this would be a role where Sam wasn't type cast as a 'hot action guy' with not much opportunity to stretch his acting muscles... which has happened too often outside of OL.

I was truly thrilled.. and very relieved... that this show provided a vehicle for Sam to give a nuanced performance. It's still an imperfect tv show, but beautifully shot, well written and well acted -especially by the four leads. This will hopefully showcase him to a broader audience and provide opportunities for more roles with depth (Not having the OL shooting schedule will help).

Don't get me wrong, he is still beautiful to look at, but he really carries the show and has excellent and real 'relationship chemistry' with both love interests. OL purists may say it's not 'SC chemistry' .. well, nothing compares to THAT... but this was IMHO his best venture outside of OL so far. I wish him every success and, did I say...... I'M SO RELIEVED!!!!

Ok.. I also admit to buying a vpn and streaming Ch 4... too impatient to wait for it to come to the US ;)

A tiny source info tidbit is better than nothing, right? Read on to find out the info I got about Sam Heughan at the TCA upfronts in Pasadena, CA.

But first, unbeknownst to me or anyone else I know in Los Angeles who usually knows about these things, Sam Heughan made a surprise appearance at the TCA upfronts today, July 11, 2024 in Los Angeles, Pasadena, to be exact. Ugh, we are all so miffed we didn't get the heads up. Oh well.

The TCA is the Television Critics Association. 👇

They do different events, an awards show, etc. One of the events is what are called upfronts, which are panels where actors, producers, showrunners preview upcoming seasons of their shows, or promote their shows. Here's the Wikipedia definition of upfronts. 👇

So, the TCA upfronts were held today at the Langham Huntington Hotel in Pasadena, a suburb of Los Angeles. They've been held there in years past and Sam, Cait and other Outlander peeps have attended. I've posted exclusive pics and videos of Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe there before. This year it, caught us by surprise...and so did Sam. Here he is at today's panel promoting Outlander's Blood of My Blood and The Couple Next Door. 👇

I was so bummed when I saw these because I was actually free today and could have gone myself. 😪 Ugh. Anyhoo, I DMed one of my long time, trusted sources and asked her if, per chance, she'd gone. And this is what she told me. DMs posted with permission. 👇

Soooo, now we know, Sam WAS a surprise AND that he had a flight to catch. Or at least, that's what his publicist said. Wonder why he's not staying in L.A. and more importantly, WHERE he's going.

The couple next door

Here's my review of TCND. I will keep it spoiler free!

Let's first say: I absolutely loved it!

And I didn't expect to. I'm not at all a fan of "sexy thrillers", but this one actually turned out to be so surprising and unexpected, that I really loved it.

Also I started the show expecting to want Evie and Danny to become a couple and that I also expected that I wouldn't really like Danny that much. I expected him to be flawed and problematic.

But let's just say I was wrong. I won't say who I rooted for in the end, but I shipped them hard!

The acting is fantastic all around. I think it's Sam's best work except for Outlander. There were two scenes in it where he made me cry. I didn't see neither Sam nor Jamie in any of the scenes. He's absolutely gorgeous in it, but also so so good.

But all the other actors are fantastic, too. I was just glued to my TV for all six episodes and couldn't stop watching. I didn't forward, I didn't flinch or scroll my phone in-between. I was actually afraid to start the last episode so emotionally involved was I at that point.

Great, unusual TV show. Five stars by me

I have to add though: I can't imagine a second season. How would this possibly work? I can't see this repeated.
