i love the color pink and the taste of fresh raspberries

i love the moon that i used to think went wherever i went

i love the sound of the birds when the winter cold disappears and my depressed mood melts with the snow

i love flowers but mostly the memories they bring

i love the simple things

but i can't love myself the way i love flowers and raspberries because i'm harder to love than that

loving isn't always easy and my worries tell me it should be easy

but i didn't always love the color pink or the taste of raspberries and i once chose the sun over the moon

love isn't always a constant, a straight line to the desired destination

people change, i've changed, i'm changing now and i'll keep changing until i can love myself too

I'm a trans man and I was raised to be hyper feminine. Like, not even kidding, "you need to be wearing gloves in public otherwise you're a slut" kind of hyperfeminine. No pants. No wearing blue (unless it was robin's egg blue). No short hair, no tattoos, no shorts, and T shirts were only allowed if I was wearing them to bed.

The color pink was supposed to be present somewhere in every outfit. Most of the time, if it wasn't the color of my clothes, it was the color of my earrings, or bracelets, or ribbons in my hair.

Needless to say, I learned to leave clothes at other friends' houses to change into or I would stow a pack near the bus stop and just changed there (i lived in a rural, wooded area, no worries).

But the color pink ESPECIALLY got tied into my dysphoria because it was SO hammered in that I had to wear it all the time, especially since I am NDN, and was consistently told that my features were "far too masculine", so the extra pink was there to "convince" people I was a woman "despite" not being white and having a little button nose and big doe eyes or whatever.

I am in my 30's now. Having to go through that for almost 20 years made me have a physical, nauseous reaction to the color pink. Now that I am older and have unworked a LOT of that—frankly—brainwashing, I want to give pink a fair chance, meet her for who she is, rather than the warden she was forced to be, you know?

What would Belos think of the color pink and Barbie?

Philip’s character is coded as someone who was a victim of confirmation, who was forced to fit into a society and adopt its wants and values as his own in order to avoid persecution. In that manner, I think that he would understand a lot of where the story comes from and the topics that it deals with. The stresses of growing up and changing, of dealing with constant double-standards and confusing expectations, especially of perfection. I think he’d love it.

Additionally, I think he’d like the color pink. Pink was originally considered a strong, masculine color, while blue was characterized as softer and more feminine. Considering his hair and the robes he wears, I don’t think arbitrarily assigned genders to colors would matter to him much.
