and i forget which exact post i mentioned this BUT the like. short answer is that the kennedy center production is the closest to My Chess tho i think there are still some issues with the ending and um. the success of the book is really dependent on the actors/direction (also if anyone sees my blog now it is like. obvious why that is my fave given that raúl is in it BUT ACTUALLY i got into raúl in the first place Because of kencen chess i got affirmation of queer freddie from a professional production and never went back)

the real answer is my fave chess is the one in my head that i hallucinated after blasting to the concept album for the first time while driving through heavy fog. umm personally i'm a political manipulation boy and have a history buff dad who introduced me to the show so the cold war context is always going to strike me the most. and while i find the love triangle deeply fascinating i have next to no interest in the story as a Romance. i think that they all simultaneously bring out the best and the worst in each other which is an Insane dynamic to have & they make me spiral. i know there are 'issues' with the original london book or whatever but i actually really like the simplicity and like. range of it.

what else to say..... chess in my head is actually quite edgy. but in a deliberate way not a grungy way. which is also probably why i like kencen but don't really think the aesthetic matches. and maybe it's the concept album loyalty/really only listening to those songs for like. a year but chess can have a dry ironic sort of humor (like the merchandisers or the embassy lament) and i think as a director you should provide some lightness and space for the audience to breathe but it's not really meant to be Comedy. it's why the yogurt scene and others like it have always felt super out of place to me i think the show has had enough issues with critics/its book and isn't helped by any sort of self-aware mockery it's only weakened by it.

also they should all get to swear some.

Since I can't contain my thoughts here's all the "Mirage" logicistics. Basically they either swap or enhance ones personality, heres a few examples:

Mirage Lenore is way more looney and impulsive, with a practically nonexistant off switch having to be dragged off screaming before she sets anything on fire, her group mainly sticks with her for fear of their own lives and she and Annabel are ALLOWED TO BE GAY!!! HOORAY!!! They still have the pretend to hate each other thing but thats mainly due to Annabel's paranoia

Mirage Duke is a shit magician who constantly looses parts of his tricks, he's also like WAYYY too overdramatic, the kinda mf to fall over if you steal his chip,

"MY CHIP!!"

"Its... its just a crisp.."

"I WAS GOING TO EAT THAT!"

"Oh my god..."

So yeah, pathetic cringefail looser LMFAO, but he is the kinda person to pull a "OMG MY BEST FRIEND! MOVE!" And shove whoever out of his way

Mirage Pluto is if you took a wet cat and made him a golden retriever. He's very hyperactive, social, easily distracted. Mf is like "wanna hear abt my hyperfixations?!" Talks and doesn't wait for an answer a neat thing i did with some characters Mirage's is i inverted stuff abt them like hair, emblems, all that. He still thinks M! Duke's magic is cool

Mirage Berenice is a feral little creature, constantly biting or nibbling on things (mainly Eulalies arm, or her own. I dont think chewlery exists in the victorian era). She's also the queen of being unhinged, in spectre form shes somewhat normal at least. For the most part she's in her own world

Mirage Eulalie is the mean autistic, less into creepy/old things n thinks their lame and/or weird. She's the one dragging Berenice around and keeping the gang from falling apart. Her and M! Morella really out here sharing the only group braincell, shes also blunt as fuck and wont hesitate to tell you you look bad. I wanted to lean more into the japanese part of her character so she just kinda- speaks more of it now (lol idk how else to explain it)

Mirage Morella, like M! Eulalie, is a mean autistic. She's less emotional, and more of "I dont give a damn just get me out of here.", sticks with whatever group she's feelin that day tbh. Won't tell you you look bad, will probably just call you a dumbass and leave

Mirage Annabel is kinda like regular Annabel but without the "Life is like chess" mentality. So more jumpy, kinda a walking talking mental breakdown waiting to happen. Excess paranoia and increase of hallucinations cus pookie and I decided we aren't giving her a break

Mirage Prospero is no longer fancy and polite, he is sopping wet germaphobic wet cat. He will go through great lengths to avoid disease, faints around blood and puke, screams at the sight of his own rats (or just rats/bugs in general), actively raising his and Annabel's blood pressure with how scardy he is.

Mirage Montresor is imo the funniest one cuz he's just a polite little gentleman, doin all the chivalry shit like opening doors, pushing chairs in and out, saying his pleases/thank yous/welcomes, he's even calling everyone "Sir" and "Ma'am". He's still an asshole, but you really gotta provoke him to see that

Tbh, I didn't think much abt Mirage Will since Will to me is kinda just there as Monty's lackey who gets kicked around. SO he's less of a pushover, more demanding, up and refuses what people tell him, bullies M! Monty, he tried bullying M! Ada and M! Morella but bro got his ass kicked. On top of it, he's unfortunately more sexist and stubborn. No more people pleasing ig 🤷‍♀️

Finally, Mirage Ada. What I wanted to do for her is have her be an absolute girlboss who is always serving 100% of the time. Everything she does is her choice and for her and her friends, and and and shes Aroace too, pretty chill when she has to reject someone just like:

"Oh! I don't feel the same but we can still be friends?"

"Ok"

     beth harmon is orphaned at age eight when her mother dies in a car crash.   growing up in an orphanage in kentucky,   she is taught chess by the custodian mr.   shaibel,   and soon becomes a chess prodigy.   while at the orphanage,   she struggles with an addiction to tranquilizers.   in her teens she is adopted by the wheatley family and begins her rapid rise in the chess world,   eventually challenging the top soviet players.   as her skill and profile grows,   so does her dependency on tranquilizers and eventually alcohol

     in her adulthood,   beth is portrayed as an obsessive,   unable to keep any other element in her life in order outside of her own rise within the chess competitive landscape.   she is a young woman with undiagnosed autism and a good portion of her hyperfixation on the game of chess can be attributed to her particular neurosis.   she is also someone who is fairly socially awkward and prefers her own company over the company of others.   part of the reason why she enjoys chess is the fact that it doesn't require a conversation or an interaction between players besides what is occurring on the board itself.

ninth house / dark academia: what would you do to never lose again?    after a crushing defeat on the competitive chess circuit beth looks to unsavory means to ensure all her future victories.   making a faustian bargain with a chaos demon she sells a fraction of her soul for boundless luck.   enrolling into yale as a mathematics and russian language double major she seeks out the school's magical underbelly once her demon begins to slip its leash.    

grishaverse: hailing from the wandering isle beth is currently a student enrolled in the university of ketterdam.   when she's not in classes she can be seen making bets over chess with her wealthy classmates.   her wins help fund her tuition and also are a way for her to practice her heartrending abilities by checking the pulse points of her opponents.   knowing their heart rates helps her guess their next move… and she may toy with the nervous system of her more vindictive adversaries.   her grisha status is a secret to the broader public and only her friend jolene is aware of beth's affinity.   

pjo / greco-roman myth verse: a gifted tactician and roman demi-goddess, beth is a daughter of mars and valued asset of the legion due to her mind for strategy. her efforts to protect the roman encampment are usually carried out from behind closed doors and she is a figure heavily shrouded in mystery as she herself has never seen battle despite being the progeny of a war god ( this verse is still HEAVILY under construction but i am looking to develop it further ! )

1.the last sentence you wrote

Well, I posted the last fic I worked on so here's the last sentence(s) from my Fallen Love Chapter 3 doc:

Her head spun from just the couple inches her heels added to her height. She’d bet on practicality for years but combat boots would only take her back to the battlefield. They simply didn’t make sense without the threat of war hanging over her head.

(I was going to play by the rules but the angst doesn't really hit with just the last sentence so...)

2. a character whose POV you’re currently exploring

Oh, my god, I've got nothing for this. I have been sick for over a week. Before that I was barely working on that Erendor x Samara fic I wanted to finish. Tbh my head has been way more into House of the Dragon (heaven knows why when the writers are hacks) than any of my own stuff. Like, I am hyperfixating in the most annoying way where I'm not coming up with fic, I'm not really analyzing the text that much, I'm just rotating the same thought in my head like it's a microwave that doesn't work and I'm hoping the heat generated by the rotating motion itself will be enough to cook my fucking thought.

But yeah, if we're talking about actual writing, then I'd have to go with Griffin since Fallen Love is all from her PoV (and so are all of my other recent Griffin x Valtor ideas, which are all I have). She's, uh... She's having a bad time and I don't know how to make it better. The good news is that I don't have to yet but at some point she's going to have to figure out what to do with her life now that she's not at war every day and I. Don't. Know what I'll do then. For now she's having Realizations TM but those are def spoilers.

I don't have any. Unless the one that's already set isn't an abomination, I just don't care. I'm using Libre Office and my default is Liberation Serif so I'm just using that.

I suppose that fics that already have sequels planned don't count? I have several for which I'd write an AU but a sequel? Let's see.

Yeah, nope, I'll have to pick something from those that I've already thought of continuing.

Originally, Imitation Play was supposed to have a sequel but I decided that I don't have a clear enough idea for it so I've left it alone. I already have enough other stuff to work on but if I had to write a sequel to something I've already finished, I'd look at that one and try to figure out how to continue it.

24. how do you recharge when you’re not feeling creative?

Usually watch movies. Way more rarely read a book or fanfic. But if I'm looking to spark thoughts, then listen to a playlist or even make a moodboard (which I haven't really done recently). Recently I found out that spending time and having fun with your family can really charge you like nothing else. Huh, who would've thunk?

25. besides writing, what are your other hobbies?

There's watching movies and reading books. DIY. Drawing. Playing various games (sudoku, mahjong, jenga, crossword puzzles, chess occasionally). A couple more that I'd feel like a fraud if I list because it's really been years since I've done them.

27. your favorite part of the writing process

It's what would fall under outlining. When I'm making sense of the story and adding ideas, tying plot points together and just weaving it all into one. I like seeing how it comes together into a coherent story and since it's not super serious at that point, I don't have to stress out that much. I'm just throwing pasta at the wall and seeing what sticks. And then arranging the stuff that sticks into a coherent, beautiful pattern. I like that!

Her memories don’t come *back* but she experiences really intense deja vu. The best way I can describe the experience is the sense of being “within and without”.

Dreams are really intense, whether they’re good or bad. And even though she forgets as soon as she wakes up, her body remembers.

She grows close with Norman and Ray again pretty much overnight, though it takes a little more time for her to get used to everyone else. It’s probably super overwhelming, but Emma’s cheerful disposition never changes so she does her best to take it all in stride.

Being a stranger to herself, then learning who she used to be deeply shakes her confidence. How can she live up to the stories about this hero who tore her way through dimensions and faced down a god? She’s scared of letting everyone down.

I imagine she develops a lot of anxiety, which of course Norman and Ray would help her work through (in my perfect post-canon world they all have amazing therapists and are on the road to healing lmao). I think post-canon Emma would struggle with being lonely despite being surrounded by people who love her - which was confirmed by that little moment in the bonus chapter. This comes to pass, though! It just takes some time, and a lot of honest communication.

She takes online classes and accidentally graduates with her high school diploma and an associates degree in like two weeks because she hyperfixated on it, like as a fun computer game. She likes every subject but she’s probably most interested in topics surrounding psychology, communications, and early childhood development.

I imagine a handful of the demon world kids will end up being involved in the human world’s politics in some way and while I don’t see any of the trio as politicians, I can see them being ambassadors in some form. Don’t ask me for details because I don’t have any lol I just know they all attend world peace meetings and are held in very high regard. Emma in particular would be concerned with making sure everyone in the world is taken care of and would spearhead humanitarian efforts.

She’s both different and somehow exactly the same. She’s still stubborn, cheerful and caring. She still loves games and is curious about everything. She doesn’t remember them, yet she’ll surprise them by saying the same exact things she’s said before, or coming to the same Only-Emma kind of conclusion.

Norman and Ray now really struggle against her in chess. She used to be so much easier to beat. Now she’s a terror.

Oscar looks up from his Nintendo 3DS, turning his head to stare at Lukas poking at his forehead. "Are you annoyed yet, Oscar? Come on... you have to want to like smack me or something! There is no way you are impervious to my tricks," Lukas whines, poking Oscar faster.

Oscar raises an eyebrow and focuses back at the camera, a deadpan expression on his face. "I think you have your answer there." He goes back to playing Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones and smiles when Lukas throws his hands up in frustration.

"This is bulllllllllllshittttttt! Wait, I have a better idea," Lukas chuckles, standing up and calling out, "Oh Bru Bruuuuuu! I found your secret stash of Nutella!"

Oscar sighs and sinks into the couch. "I rarely get cranky unless someone touches my chess boards or videogames without telling me."

🥽 - Has your OC ever gotten in trouble with their military? If so how did that go?

Oscar blushes at the question and he rubs his hands against his jeans to get rid of the clamminess he is feeling. "Well, I did get in trouble one time, but it wasn't because I did anything bad. It was whenever I would have to do an open ranks inspection and there would be someone right in my face and trying to tell me I wasn't properly wearing the uniform. They tried to quiz me on some basic knowledge questions about who the Commander was for my squadron athe time." He picks his eyes up to look at the camera before diverting his attention to the floor.

"They told me that I better keep my eyes on them, but instead, I told them if they were going to chew me out for small issues with my uniform, then they should uhm... look at the toothpaste on their lapel, their scuffed dress shoes, a crooked ribbon rack, and an obviously not ironed shirt. I had to do night shifts for a whole month. It was *awesome* because no one was there to annoy me."

🥞 - Oh no your OC has been captured by the enemy. How well would that go for them?

Oscar can't make it too long when captured just because the enemy would exploit every single weakness he has. He can't handle the constant shouting, the unwarrented touching, the bright lights on him for hours, and the lack of his insomnia medications. He wouldn't have access to the tools he uses to keep himself grounded like a fidget toy or a chess piece. I would give it about two weeks before he just goes purely silent. Oh yeah, that's another thing about Oscar I haven't shown yet; if he is stressed beyond his limits or he is too triggered, he goes fully silent and keeps his eyes shut. He would much rather be in a quiet and dark place than a room with his torturers.

💌 - Is your OC the conventional type of solider usually seen? Or are they breaking the norms?

Oscar wasn't like the soldiers people see in the media. I based Oscar off the people I have met in the Intelligence community and how much they differed from those who were in the Infantry or in a more Special Operations type environment. He is very quiet, shy, engrossed in his work and hyperfixations, and he isn't built for combat at all. He cried when he fired a pistol/rifle for the first time when he joined the Air Force and he broke down when Bruno tried to show him how to use weapons that were too loud.

Believe it or not, there are a lot of people in the military with undiagnosed Autism/ADHD/OCD/PTSD/ETC and Oscar is one of the characters I wanted to use to portray those attributes. They break the norms in the fact that they didn't stay in the military past one enlistment, as most media suggests that foks stay in for twenty years. Oscar is allowed to feel weak, vulnerable, and meek even after being in the military; having been a prior service military member doesn't mean someone is always brave, courageous, strong, or blood-thirsty. Oscar is one of the few characters I have that really remind me that the military is filed with all sorts of people and that's what makes military whump so fun for me.

Anyway brain got big forgor so I didn't get to submit but honestly they would die anyway 🤗 they died first in the series that's only a precursor for them to die first in any other event (they have died in other tournaments)

This is their 1st interaction in canon. I'll keep it quick, one's a serial killer and one's a vigilante, Takao Hiyama and Yomotsu Hirasaka respectively. As you can see, Yomotsu has a silly drip with an eyeball looking mask :3 He knows fashion so well. (He's blind) And Takao has pretty long hair,,, but everything else about him is ugly 👎👎 Both are old men in their early to mid 39's I'd say. I say old because they are 😋

They are both goofy losers with big dumb!! I don't care that Takao's a teacher and he got a degree, he didn't get a fucking degree in [Living!] Bro a serial killer and he died first!! Loser !! 💥💥

Anyway so keeping plot short again. Um. God wanted Survival Game He put 12 people to kill each other! In this Survival Game God wanted it to be funkier so he gave everyone diaries that predict the future! FUTURE DIARY ROLL CREDITS

So Takao has the Murder Diary, and Yomotsu has the Justice Diary 🤗 Most of the Diary Keepers have phones as diaries, like Takao, but there are a few exceptions. Like Yomotsu, without sight, he instead has a voice recorder to have his diary on!! Coolio!!

Anyway so um. Funny plot happens after the other 10 are dead and the two MCs get to go to an alternate world 2 years prior the Survival Game, so everyone's alive. So butterfly effect happened and Survival Game no happen! (MN is stupid so yeah you don't need more context <3 )

So, in this alternate universe, the two finally meet and Yomotsu pins Takao down :3 🤗

And the 2nd scene they interact has Takao in prison, and Yomotsu visiting him. Takao tells Yomotsu to get a hobby 💥💥

So like,, they're both such similar people yet so opposite... They're like a chess board... (for lack of a better comparison)

As a big delusional guy, I stared at the 2 mins of screentime Takao had and inferred a few things:

He has no friends

He has no family

He has no bitches

He is antisocial but due to his environment he can put up a friendly/professional front when needed

He is a loser

He is stupid, perhaps able to be cunning at times, but he is stupid

He died 5 times btw (everyone died only 2 times but this guy. This guy.)

He killed himself 3 times (accidentally)

Are these true? Yes because I say so and are you gonna disprove me? You can't 🫵💥💥 I know canon when I get visions of it in my brain.

Now for Yomotsu and his 6 minutes of screentime, I have more backup with my claims!

He has no friends

He has no family

He has no bitches

He has crippling depression

He is hanging on by a fucking thread

He is desperate for approval/acceptance

He does have passions for justice as it is, but another reason he is a vigilante is so people can see value in him

Also he's neurodivergent he has/had a hyperfixation on Kamen Rider and Super Sentai he is autism ever okay...

He has just such a way with words... He talks so funny

When he had his first visitor in a long while, he offered them tea, and then kinda trauma dumped on them just instantly

Anyway so like he relies on justice/vigilante work to feel self worth, but oops no one appreciates his good deeds... RIP bozo

Anyway yeah society um hates him 💥💥

So yeah he opened up that convo with “I don't know if Justice is real anymore” and just went on to dump his problems on a visiting imp (dw bout that)

He needs therapy so bad

He's like a people pleaser kinda,,,

Also in that alternate world I mentioned where he puts Takao in prison. Like. Dude's gotta be really desperate for social interaction (and a friend) if he's gonna visit someone he put in prison,,, He's such a fucking loser 💥

Also from his actions he has implied(?) suicidal ideation. This man is big sad okay.

He had the option to attempt to avoid his death. Future Diaries allowed to warn their owner that another Diary Keeper would kill them in the future. So they get a [Dead End] warning.

But instead of trying to avoid it. He goes on a suicide mission to take down his target.

He said he would die, in the name of justice. What an honourable dude

So the justice was attempted child murder- 🤗 IT WAS JUSTIFIED OKAY

But he got killed before he could blow the child up so. RIP bozo. Then again the child died shortly after him anyway so. Justice?

Also this guy is like God's 3rd favourite

He was built like an MC okay

I know he was one of God's favourite, he gave Yomotsu an advantage

Most of the other Diary Keepers only have their future telling ability, however, Yomotsu has a little something more

He has hypnosis powers. OP as hell.

He was built to be the MC but God decided he liked a pathetic 14 year old more instead 💔

So yeah old man yaoi is a need and I did not get it!! I was cheated out of this, Sakae Esuno!! Would've loved two stupid losers that can be low-key smart try to catch each other in this Survival Game. I wanna believe that they would've been Lawlight but also stupid 💙💙💙💙

Lastly, I'd like to mention. That my pfp is bald Takao.

Mirai Nikki was popular enough to get a Visual Novel so I'm hoping to Sakae Esuno he gave my old men (there's more old men than just these two! Though these two are top blorbos 💙) some more screen time and lore.

Anyway so idk but there's like a trend or smthn to make VN character sprites bald,,, so ofc I had to do it first. And I took away Takao's long hair.

So um 💙 yeah. I also wrote a 9k word essay for them in another tournament,,, niche character tournament... I am a normal person with sanity 🤗🤗

They are my everything.

Notice! + Bad Medicine Updates

ITS ARCANE SEASON SO-

Anyway, this is long so I'm putting this under cut.

Tldr:

I won't be releasing TLs everyday for the next few months like I have been doing. I'll only do what I can manage to do, but I won't gun to have a constantly running queue anymore.

Bad Medicine has been completely translated, but there won't be an EN patch.

I'm starting to revisit and redo/update older translations.

I'm so sorry guys but since I have been, or will be, releasing translations on a lesser frequency, just know that Arcane and by extension LoL, LoR, and TFT has their claws in me and I'll be back once my hyperfixation calms down bc I want to climb the rank ladders this season (⁠˘⁠･⁠_⁠･⁠˘⁠) Since I also have a job, the time and what remaining brain juice I have to myself after that is limited... Imagine playing chess (TFT) with no brainpower... haha... not happening.

That being said, the good news is that I have finally finished translating Bad Medicine's Kashu route during this weekend, which marks the end of one personal project! It's been 7 years...

The TLs will be released once I can get around to formatting them into proper posts.

Meanwhile, the bad news is that, while I've been asked a lot about a possible bad medicine eng patch, the answer is no, there won't be one. Not because I don't know how to make one (I do know someone), but rather, because the translations of the other routes are... Well, let's just say they're VERY old, and simply not up to par with my current standards. However, redoing everything is, I'm not gonna lie, a pretty daunting task.

I'll redo them though, probably... Someday, I hope. I'm still thinking about it, but whether or not I'll go through with it remains to be seen.

I am also currently in the process of slowly redo-ing some older translations from BF Kari though! It's where I started out as a translator... So I think that's where I should start if I'm going to go around poking and prodding at my oldest translations.

Still slowly chipping at the other stuff on my WIP list though, so don't worry about those.

Main Antagonist: Henry Gustillo

So, funny story, this absolute wonder of a character is based from a person I know from real life. Shocker isn't it. But the reason he's a little more special is because he's based on a very specific person: my school crush. To be more specific the first impression of my school crush, which was... so so so bad.

I genuinely thought the guy was an asshole. He had that kind of asshole faces and demeanor about him. Also the way he ended up as the class mayor was purely because all the boys in the class voted for himwhich didn't rub off nicely on me as the then elected vice mayor. So, yeah. Obviously as I get to knew him he was actually a lot more sensitive than I assumed, so that's a lesson in judging a book by its cover. (pics from pinterest, my love)

Amon is so adorable, and oh so relatable.

He hates noise, hates people, hates me, world domination, he's lonely, he hyperfixates (on world domination), isolates himself, refuses to reach for help even when he desperately needs it, he likes chess, he has parental issues, he hates the world yet deeply craves it's warmth to only receive coldness in return, he likes to hum, he was hid away from the world in order to 'protect' him but it only caused him more harm, he's eccentric, he hides his true self from other people in fear of being ridiculed, he has bad emotional control, he was a social outcast, and he likes purple.

I am all those things too, and It's so nice to find a character I deeply relate to, which is rare.
