The UA Entrance Exam

This was going to be part of a larger post about UA as a whole, but I decided this was probably best to stand alone, because this is more random thought/opinion than a proper critical post. Welcome to what is probably going to be a controversial post: the UA Admissions test isn't bad?

The main argument against it is that it puts those without a combat quirk at a disadvantage, right? And, well, that's true. But... is that wrong?

Here's the thing: the more heroism as a whole is developed in the setting, the more something becomes startling clear, one simple fact that stands above all others.

Heroism is a profession defined by fighting.

You can be a rescue hero, you can spend your time saving people from collapsing building or finding those who are lost, but if you've gotten to the point of being a professional hero? You know how to throw down.

I'm not even talking about UA, here: there's a license exam that everyone has to take, as part of a process of being a hero. Half of it is saving people, yes... but the other half? It's purely about fighting other people. Hell, even part of the saving people portion has combat aspects, since it's focused around, not just saving people, but saving people while under attack.

I'll say it again: if you are a hero, you are a fighter, by definition.

So, what's that have to do with the UA entrance exam? In all honesty, that exam is functionally a simulation of running around a city, beating up random street thugs. It's testing if you can beat people up, one of the most fundamental parts of heroism (deadpan stare).

The follow up point is, what about Quirks that aren't combat focused, but are still useful for heroism? Shinso, for example? If those were actual people, he probably could have beaten them, right? That's unfair!

And, I'll admit, that's right; in the context of that exam, it is unfair, because some people can vomit lava lasers and some can't. Is Brainwash useful? Absolutely. Counterpoint: what is day one Shinso going to do if he meets some guy in an alley with no mouth and a knife?

Die.

Literally, if he didn't run away, all he'd do is die.

Everyone who passed, and quite a few who didn't pass, could take down Wannabe Slenderman, while Shinso would just end up dead in that alley. This is going to sound bad, but life is unfair, and if you're going to go around picking fights with dangerous people and not prepared for that fact, you will pay for it.

Now, let me introduce you to Chad Hagakure.

In the grand scheme of things, while Toru has a useful support power, Shinso's is a lot better than hers, more versatile, more powerful. You can, in the words of Ollivander, do great things with a power like that. While Toru's Quirk gives her some advantages against the robots, it isn't going to beat them for her, either, and the off button idea is fanon with no canon backing.

So how did she get in, with her inferior quirk, when Shinso didn't?

Because Shinso coasted through his life with only his Quirk, and then was helpless when met up with something with the amazing ability to shut up. Everything he did, before Aizawa took him under his wing, revolved around making the other person talk, and absolutely nothing else. Toru, meanwhile, found opponents her invisibility couldn't magically destroy for her, and responded by beating them to death.

You probably think I'm being dramatic or something, but I'm not kidding. You need to stop robots to get points to pass; Izuku is the only person to pass on rescue points only, canonly. She doesn't have a power or tools to let her restrain them like Minoru did, so she had to, had to, break them. She doesn't have laser beams, or fire blasts, or anything to make it easy for her; all Toru had was the ability to ambush things, her muscles, and maybe a rock or a steel plate or something she picked up along the way.

That's all she had... and then she managed to kill her way in the heroism course anyways, past people who probably had Quirks much more compatible with the problem at hand. She went up to robots, probably from behind, and then hit them until they stopped moving.

In other words, Toru went into the Entrance Exam... and then the Doom music kicked in.

At the end of the day, though, I'm saying all these things, and while they're true, I feel like I'm dancing around the fundamental point: being a hero is about more than just a Quirk.

As a setting, MHA is one with a broad set of powers and abilities, by design. It means that there's lots of cool and interesting people to meet, which is the point, but on a practical level, it also means that every Quirk, every Quirk, has something that counters it. For support Quirks especially, there's seemingly always that One Simple Trick to beat them; a pair of thermal goggles, for example, renders Toru Quirkless. If you just don't talk, Brainwash is useless. And when that happens, you can't just say, 'Time out!' and get a new villain; you'll have to fight them anyways.

If you depend on your one special trick and nothing else, one day that will be your downfall.

UA has a lot of questionable decisions in it, about it, around it, but it is good at teaching its students how to beat the living shit out of people; you could even say it specializes in it. It has no illusions about the reality of the job it's preparing them for. And in the same vein, this isn't something that should be a surprise to any applicant; almost every time we see a hero in the media? They've just finished fighting someone. If they're not entering UA with wide open eyes about what they're going to have to do (and probably after signing some liability waivers to boot), then frankly they're idiots.

The Entrance Exam, mostly, tested one simple thing: are you ready to fight someone? Are you ready to walk into that alleyway and beat those thugs into submission? It's easier for people with combat Quirks, yes, because those are Quirks that are good at fighting, but that's not the end all; in another life, if he had worked out before hand, if he was determined to win, even if he was at a disadvantage, Shinso could have walked in, picked up a piece of rebar, and just hit things until he passed.

Like, let's compare Shinso and Bakugou: both of them have a good Quirk, and both of them knew it. (I know fanon and the narrative say otherwise, but Shinso has had nothing but praise from the flashbacks we've seen, with only a few comments that were somewhat negative but still held implicit respect for his Quirk and it's powers. Everyone he talks to says he has a good Quirk. He's happy using his Quirk. He is not the fanon abused little racoon.)

Shinso accepted that as fact and walked into UA without putting any work in, from what we can see (he faced Izuku, who was effectively Quirkless, and the second his Quirk failed he panicked and basiclly flailed more than fought, still only trying to make Izuku talk rather than actually beat him in a fight, even though Izuku was right there, about to beat him in a fight, and prepared to avoid his Quirk) and was smacked down accordingly.

Then we look at Bakugou, and that's the thing with Bakugou: he had an easy road to heroism, and knew it. I've said this somewhere before, but Hori leans on 'Bakugou works hard' as an excuse to not talk about his moral failings, because he does work hard, but not that hard. 'Bakugou working hard', in all honesty, is peak 'Tell not Show', and is repeated so damn often I'm sick of it.

The thing is that the idea of that isn't wrong, just the execution of it. With his muscles, with the way his Quirk is supposed to work, he had to put work into bulking up, staying in shape. He didn't just get his Quirk and say, 'I'm set for life', he fought for it. And while Hori praises him like Rock Lee when we barely see him do shit, the idea of a talented person working hard anyways could have been great. It's something you see in a lot of shonen manga, and is emblematic of heroism itself, and the spirit that UA is supposed to show: you can't just coast into heroism. You need to fight for it, earn it.

...I got a bit off topic there, but the point is the kid didn't just manifest those muscles out of the ether, he has to be training off screen, even if we should be seeing it more on screen.

Bakugou had a good Quirk, but was willing to train himself to achieve his goals.

Toru has a, honestly, medicore Quirk, but still managed to fight her way to her dreams.

Shinso has a good Quirk, but his only strategy when his Quirk failed him was, 'try harder to get them again with my Quirk!'.

Heroism is about power, true, but it's also about attitude, willingness, determination, the ability to perform under pressure and to make good choices and act on them, all the things that got early Izuku through the series before he got Full Cowl, often without using his Quirk at all. Most of that, if not all of it, can be trained over time, true... But if you're not born lucky, and you're not willing or able to work out enough, to think cleverly enough, or to be vicious enough to smash some weak robots, then honestly you're probably not ready for the hero course.

Obviously, they ultimately decided to drop the subtitle. Although in interviews, director Chad Stahelski assures us that "Hagakure" is still a core concept driving the plot of Chapter 4.

In other words, don't worry; vengeance is still 30% guaranteed :P

I watched this after watching The Gray Man and there are more “HOLY SHIT!” moments in this one minute preview than there were in the entire two hour and change run time of that movie. Gotta wait ‘til goddamn MARCH.

The chad ask- despair apocalypse survivors bed sharing headcanons. Do they bicker?

Yes. God do they bicker.

When the survivors are in the apoloclypse by themselves its ROUGH man. Theyre tired and annoyed and hungry and thirsty. And now they gotta all sleep together on one or two beds???

You have NO idea how long it took them to figure who sleeps next to who. Fukawa was very insistent on sleeping right next to Togami, who wanted Fukawa so sleep in the corner on the floor. Togami refuses to sleep in between two people. Asahina and Togami can't be near each other or havok will ensue. Fukawa refuses to sleep next to any guy who isn't Togami. They spend a solid hour just changing the order again and again.

The first night they try "boys on floor, girls take the bed" but it was real uncomfortable so they asked if they could join. Or rather, Naegi asked in that puppy way he does and no one could say no.

The order they end up with is

Fukawa, Asahina, Hagakure, Kirigiri, Naegi, Togami.

And even when they figure that out there's still bickering. All the way from across the room Togami will complain that Fukawa is breathing too loudly. Hagakure will talk in his sleep a LOT and Asahina has smacked him for it. Hagakure also moves a LOT and everyones considered pushing him onto the floor at some point.

There's also Fukawa's phobia of the dark and its real hard to get her to feel good enough to sleep because having lights in their shelter is DANGEROUS. It could attracted the despaired or monounits. I headcanon that one of Hagakure's crystal balls isn't a crystal at all. And it actually lights up, so he gives it to her to hold for comfort. She still shakes like a scared chihuahua tho.

Naegi will end up getting up to pee in the middle of the night and he will almost always trip and wake everyone one and they hate him for it and he feels awful.

Kirigiri secretly has a snoring problem that no one was expecting

Togami gets angry in his sleep over proposed business models so sometimes Naegi will catch him mumbling about the stock market in his sleep but like. really angrily.

Asahina is a late night snacker which sucks because food is scarce so she TRIES to be sneaky about it but both Kirigiri and Togami are light sleepers.

Naegi also sleeps really REALLY still and everyone has had a moment where they thought he wasn't breathing but no he just doesn't move

And oh man the BLANKET. They only manage to find one or two tattered blankets and they are FIGHTING over who gets it. They dont wanna sleep in the unwashed comfortors of an abandoned apartment. Its better than the ground outside but theyd prefer the blanket theyd washed a few days ago. The survivors keep stealing it from each other in the middle of the night.

All in all they don't sleep well at first to say the least

But as time goes on they get more and more used to the routine and importantly each other. Soon they become more comfortable together than alone. Eventually they're comfortable enough that they don't need the designated order of sleeping so long as Togami and Fukawa aren't next to each other. Everyone just piles on however and sleeps.

#05 - HIROKO HAGAKURE, SHSL GIRL GANG LEADER

Hiroko Hagakure is known and feared across Japan for her motorcycle gang, Lethal Lotus. They’ve been spotted terrorising the streets across the Miyagi Prefecture, and have successfully held territory across the entire prefecture, despite numerous attempts from rival biker gangs to claim the land back. Hiroko herself has neatly dodged going to juvie for vandalism, speeding, attempted murder, and a whole lot of other charges. Somehow, all the evidence linking her to the crimes seems to disappear overnight...

Kyoko Kirigiri- Ultimate Luckster- Mastermind (: Sometimes lesbians can be evil okay! was trained as a detective like everyone in her family and didn’t get the ultimate :) she’s definitely not mad about that :) her luck cycle depends on how far she plans things ahead. her good luck is when she’s spontaneous! She hates when ‘normal’ people are accepted by ultimates.

Makoto Naegi- Photographer (Mostly wildlife and nature photography, with Sayaka helping him for some animal photography (: trans and bi <3 One of sayaka’s birds nests in his hair like all the time)

Kiyotaka Ishimaru- Ultimate Swordsman (AUTISTIC ICON, has trained in kendo since he was a kid, then was essentially given away to the Fujisaki clan by his very stressed dad. Semiverbal, rarely speaks.)

Chihiro Fujisaki- Ultimate Yakuza (Taka is her bodyguard! His family is in debt to hers, the Fujisaki clan is the most powerful in Japan. trans icon, of course, dates Sayaka! Very direct, though she’s far more delicate and polite when talking to taka, her best friend)

Sakura Oogami- Ultimate Nurse (Works as an EMT- her clan still is in martial arts, so she’s still very buff, she assists in injuries at the family dojo. Autistic Icon)

Asahina Aoi- Ultimate Gamer (ULTIMATE ADHD. streams and has a ton of fun, will ramble while breaking records, demigirl who loves her girlfriend sakura :)

Mukuro Ikusaba- Ultimate Chef (Works best with ‘cheap’ food, and making them taste good. a byproduct of growing up on the streets with junko, and junko being bored of the same old food they dug out of the trash. now works closely with junko for her teams’ nutritional needs! autistic and sapphic.)

Junko Enoshima- Ultimate Team Manager (there are SO many sports she can never get bored, and the professional scene is always changing! prefers coaching womens’ teams, because being an ultimate brings them more publicity and usually higher pay :)

Mondo Oowada- Ultimate Prince (OH MY BOY. trans adhd icon. now the crown prince of Novoselic, with a reagent in his place until he comes of age. His service dog Chuck is a maltese and an absolute sweetheart. Chihiro takes him under her wing to teach leadership. also dates taka later OF COURSE, though they’re poly and I may add more ppl to their relationship later.)

Celestia Ludenburg- Ultimate Musician (specializes in violin, most strings, though she can play any instrument. grew up poor, dedicated herself to an instrument and persona to cope)

Byakuya Togami- Ultimate Musician (Yep. two musicians. two catty trans gay icons about to throw down. they HATE each other and grew up as rivals. specialize in classical, they literally tore a professional orchestra full of grown adults apart trying to make them side with who was the best musician. they’re so good that they’re matched, and Hope’s Peak accepts them as one student and combined ultimate. they room together. they fight. Literally if one of them gets expelled, the other does too, so they’re STUCK. eventually they become literally inseparable and insufferable together like the WORST siblings. I love them.)

Sayaka Maizono- Breeder (animal handler) (Specializes in birds!!!!!! has songbirds on her shoulders all the time. will give unsettling animal facts without realizing they’re unsettling. sends her songbirds to serenade chihiro when they start dating <3)

Yasuhiro Hagakure- Gymnast (you see this tall goof who acts like an older brother to everyone and wonder HOW he’s a gymnast. he’s completely different in competitions, though still lighthearted. becomes a big brother figure to mukuro and junko especially <3 also trans bc i say so.)

Leon Kuwata- Traditional Dancer (he just. kinda hates it. it takes SO much work and effort but he takes to it naturally. his cousin kanon is NOT like in canon, instead she’s helpful. he’d literally rather be doing anything else. doesn’t know how to do anything like... basic either. can’t cook. cant do his own laundry. everything was dedicated to traditional japanese dancing before he attended HPA.)

Toko Fukawa- Engineer (writes schematics and is very good at it. gets VERY upset when her plans go wrong. her notes are orderly and perfect. host for their system!)

Syo- Mechanic (a factive of genocider syo, NOT an actual killer. she’s a protector mainly, and also is more adept at hands on skills when it comes to fixing things, her hands are less shaky. Her notes are a disaster and she does it to spite Toko.)

Hifumi Yamada- (???) (reserve course) Protagonist! My BOY. HIFUMI IS GOOD OKAY. He’s autistic and loves anime and gaming! he’s not particularly ultimate-leveled at them, or anything else! Attending Hope’s Peak as a reserve course student! At one point he joins the student council as a reserve course representative even if he’s only a freshman :) He’s also a moderator in Hina’s livestream chat, under the username of JusticeHammer, fastest ban hammer this side of the internet. He's internet friends with hina and sakura, and doesn’t realize Oh We Go To the same SCHOOL until he bumps into them. and realizes hina doesnt know what he looks like. but sakura does. its hilarious. he’s aroace, and during the year they’re locked in HPA, is in a queer platonic partnership with Hina and Sakura, while they’re dating each other. it’s great.)

Goodbye Despair! (second game)

Peko Pekoyama- Lucky student (ohohoh. her luck relies on her conviction. if she has doubts her bad luck strikes HARD. trans!, was taken in by Fuyuhiko’s family when she was a baby, grew up as just another kid in the family. They all expected Fuyu to go off to HPA on his own and then BOOM acceptance letter)

Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu- Programmer (He. gets so angry while coding. He has an array of rubber ducks to talk to and work through his coding issues with. trans of course. Very protective of Peko when people say she doesn’t have a ‘real’ ultimate. ADHD and Autistic)

Sonia Nevermind- Writer (Literary Girl) (Her family immigrated to Japan when she was young! She writes a lot of serial killer novels, murder mysteries and horror and all that! Trans and bi :)

Gundham Tanaka- Detective (YEAH my guy is a detective. still talks Like That. Trans and bi and he and Sonia were kinda-dating (t4t autistic power couple in the making) when things started happening. He spends some time with his cool older sister who he looks up to a LOT. He and Sonia talk through things together a lot, they both have those red string walls, one for murder cases, another for a fictional plot lmao.)

Mahiru Koizumi- Moral Compass (my GIRL. autistic. Her morals rely a lot on people taking responsibility and being reliable, and she ends up having to work through some biases she didn’t realize she had when she arrived at HPA. Is still protective of Hiyoko, though that protectiveness is spread a bit thinner to extend to the rest of the class.)

Hiyoko Saionji- Clairvoyant!!! (HI YES I COULD TALK ABOUT HER FOR DAYS. Has actual visions in dreams and when she suddenly faints, but doesn’t really realize they’re uhh Real Visions for a WHILE. uses her status as an ultimate clairvoyant to trick and bully kids when in school for a LONG time, though her homelife wasn’t great with her grandmother trying to find ways to make her visions more consistent. SHES ALSO 12 WHEN SHE JOINS THE 77TH CLASS. she’s just so advanced in academics and her ultimate is so interesting hope’s peak cant HELP but scout her early. she has SO many issues guys no one appreciates hiyoko enough, autistic gifted kid hiyoko my beloved.)

Akane Owari- Gambler (started gambling to help out her family and Got Good at it. is very very conscious of money and food like all the time. Runs the hope’s peak betting pools once she arrives. these ultimates bet on a lot of things. she ALWAYS wins. until she doesnt!!!)

Mikan Tsumiki- Martial Artist (ohhhh Mikan. Still anxious and clumsy (though not like THAT in canon) and literally no one looks at her and thinks Oh The ULTIMATE martial artist?? it isn’t until you see her in the ring that you understand. She started learning self defense as a kid because her (bad) parents essentially said she had to rely on and protect herself and no one else would help.)

Kazuichi Souda- Pop Idol (OH TRANS ICON? he’s nervous and paranoid about Everything still, though now it’s like. oh the entire world is always watching my every move this is Okay (: has the brightest neon album eras. he literally keeps up a like. weird chad persona when interacting with people because he’s masking how hard he’s constantly just internally screaming.)

Nagito Komaeda- Soldier (AHAHAH my mans got issues problems disorder he’s a messssss, this trans guy, this absolute gay. this boy leveled a city of thousands of people with his own hands and some bombs. Still has medical issues, but most of his like. treatments and medicine is hold hostage as long as he stays in line. believes the ends justify the means and anyone who dies to him is obviously weak, because look at him! he’s weak, but that doesn’t matter because he doesn’t have to be the strongest, he just has to be stronger than the weakest scum.)

Chiaki Nanami- Heir (OOF. Agender, uses any pronouns. Doesn’t really. enjoy being the heir. grew up with Byakuya in the same circles. she treats the economy and stock market and stuff like games. enjoys gaming but isn’t good at them. collects so many things. has halls full of collections. Her parents stopped controlling her once she was able to prove she had more money than them and could literally bankrupt them if she wanted.)

Hajime Hinata- Baseball Star (Chiaki’s best friend, his family was upper middle class until he hit it BIG as a baseball star. wants to do BIG things and wants to attend hope’s peak more than anything!! Doesn’t really think of baseball as his THING, just a means to an end! trans :)

Teruteru Hanamura- Biker Gang Leader (started with shaking down some jerks who didn’t pay their food and drink tabs at his mama’s restaurant. now he RUNS their tiny town. His siblings are essentially gang mascots, he works hard to keep them out of trouble (while bringing them to like. meetings where he ends up beating a dude almost to death. its fine). most of what he does it to get more money to keep the restaurant afloat and care for his mama with her health conditions.)

Nekomaru Nidai- Fashionista (the drama. the CHAOS. most people are like ohhh we can never understand this artistic genius when he’s literally just. vibing and has ADHD and a love for coffee. Works a lot on accessible clothing lines for disabled people! Also he and Kazuichi work together sometimes, Nekomaru is good at calming Kaz down and seeing like, the root of whatever problem and making it better. ALSO A TRANS ICON and just flaunts it.)

Imposter- In the hope’s peak days they are impersonating Ryota Mitarai, as a part of the 77th class. In the Killing Game they impersonate Mondo Oowada as the Ultimate Prince. They’re doin’ their best.

Ibuki Mioda- (???) (Izuru Kamakura) Protagonist! Gundham Tanaka’s older sister (though they’re in the same school year). Nonbinary and using just. an array of pronouns alongside she/her, and jokingly fights with gundham for neopronouns like MOM said it’s MY TURN on the rawrself pronouns. She attends the reserve course to stay at her brother’s side. She dresses loudly and acts even louder because !!! she wants to stand out!! in the middle of this drab reserve course hell!!  but when things go down, she wants to be someone, to be worthy of being her amazing brother’s big sister. so she accepts some offers.

NON-KILLING GAME:

Ryota Mitarai- Ultimate Analyst (stays in his room. He’s terrified of the outside world but fascinated by it. watches hope’s peak academy through security feeds, picking up on little details. he just wants to understand things but never looks at the big picture.)

Chisa Yukizome- Ultimate Boxer (Homeroom teacher!! She’s working really hard and believes in everyone! Some are intimidated by talent, but she’s never hurt anyone outside of the ring! Dating Kyosuke)

Juzo Sakakura- Ultimate Student Council President (Has anger issues, though his work at reigning them in assisted in becoming an Ultimate. Was responsible for security and the Hope’s Peak student council. Dating Kyosuke)

Kyosuke Munakata- Ultimate Housekeeper (Meticulous, works himself to the BONE even if he’s good enough to not have to do that. Is working on establishing another Hope’s Peak! Dating Chisa and Jozu!!!)

Seiko Kimura- Ultimate Blacksmith (GIVE MY GIRL KNIVES!! She’s an anxious gal, always wearing a facemask that filters the air in her forge because she has some respiratory problems. she prefers making more decorative pieces like an artist, but sometimes can create utilitarian pieces or tools to fit specific needs. Still a doormat)

Ruruka Ando- Ultimate Pharmacist (She constantly asks Seiko for new tools for her developments in medicine, saying its all for the advancement of humanity, so Seiko denying any request is SELFISH, though she never thinks to make anything for seiko’s health issues. Dating Izayoi. Specializes in medicine for mental health. Not Doing Great :)

Sonosuke Izayoi- Ultimate Confectioner (He loves sweets. LOVES them. Creates things that look plain, ordinary. but taste so GOOD you CRY and maybe ascend for a little bit. sometimes Ando makes cool new drugs to put in the sweets, who knows! It’s a mystery! He always has like. a huge refrigerated case of fresh cakes, and constantly has a lollipop in his own specialty recipe in his mouth.)

Red String:

-Katsuki has always ignored his red String to an extent. He has bigger and better things to worry about. His soulmate can come later, he thinks.

-Lillian ignores her own for the most part too, but not because of her ego or anything as petty as that. She has to worry whether or not her soulmate will like her.

-They both get into UA just fine. They don't seem to notice they're attached. They're never close enough, and neither assumed their other half would be sitting in the same room as them. Separated by rows of their classmates, they don't realize they're connected.

-The longer you're close to your soulmate without coming into contact with them, the more impatient your string becomes. It tightens and starts to tug, taut and not nearly as loose as it usually would be. Aizawa is giving a lecture when Lillian's pinkie is yanked so hard she yelps.

-Everyone turns to look at her. Lillian flushes red, rubbing her hand in an embarrassed way. Mina sees immediately and stands up with sparkling eyes. She ignores Aizawa's demand she sit back down, clapping her hands together.

-The girl asks if her string had been yanked. Everyone goes quiet. Lillian looks to her dad with startled eyes. He looked scared, like he's realizing what happened. Shoto looks to Lillian with furrowed brows.

-Lillian nods, and then her string yanks her again. Shoto barely has time to catch her before she hits the ground. Katsuki isn't so lucky. He crashes to the floor with a million curses spewing from his lips.

-Aizawa is very, very pale. Lillian pops up, eyes flying to Katsuki as the blonde sits up.

-Jiro is laughing, and Kirishima is whispering at Katsuki not-so-quietly asking if Lillian is his soulmate.

-Lillian pulls at her string. Bakugo blinks when his string tugs. They both follow the red line, seeming to realize they've been connected this entire time. Hitoshi groans.

-Neito had borrowed a quirk that let him see people's strings, once. He'd reported to Hitoshi that Lillian and Bakugo were connected. Hitoshi had been dreading them finding out. Though, they sure had taken their sweet time.

-Their string shortens, nearly sending Lillian over Tokoyami's desk as she's pulled towards Katsuki. She hisses as the boy stands up, looking entirely surprised.

-He asks Lillian if they're actually soulmates. She looks him in the eye and says "guess".

-Aizawa's quirk flares as Katsuki barks out a laugh, hopping over a desk to get over to her as Tokoyami helps her safely climb over his. The girl apologizes up and down to her classmate, but is yanked again before he can say anything.

-Hagakure and Ochako cheer. Momo looks mildly horrified, looking to Shoto as though he has any idea. The half and half boy just wrinkles his nose. They were going to be stuck with Katsuki forever now that he and Lillian were tied together. Literally.

-Lillian's hand presses itself flat against Bakugo's, their string forcing their palms together. Heat shoots through the pair of them. Kirishima quietly takes photos whilst Kaminari squeals. Sero is grinning widely. Most of the class is either happy or horrified. Aizawa looks ready to blow.

-Katsuki scoffs and asks Lillian how she didn't notice.

-She raises an eyebrow and says she could ask him the same thing.

-It's not a pairing anyone expected, but the smile Katsuki is sporting tells them all it'll work out.

Soulmate singing:

-You can hear your soulmate when they sing. Katsuki doesn't sing much. He hums, at most. Singing is dumb as hell. And he's... Not the best at it. Even though he's good at everything.

-His soulmate sings a lot. Katsuki has truly never minded. Especially seeing as they don't suck. Singing consistently since they were both kids, her voice has grown stronger and more in pitch over the years. Sometimes, she really gets into it.

-Katsuki definitely doesn't mind. Sometimes he'll zone out while doing his homework after school, listening to her belt out broadway tunes. She likes those. Katsuki has learned to enjoy them too.

-He studies hard to get into UA. His soulmate sings every sort of genre, from rock, to country, to pop. Broadway, rap, and alternative. Punk, indie, and even some metal. It's a healthy mix that keeps him invested.

-He gets into UA. There's a girl there he's drawn to. He walks next to her a few times on their way home. She's shy and quiet, so he's not sure why he feels compelled to be around her.

-She makes new friends and he can't walk with her anymore. Katsuki doesn't care. He lays down in bed at night listening to his soulmate sing a song called Bitch Lasagna. She sounds more hesitant with her words than he's ever heard her. He thinks maybe she's singing in front of, or with, someone else.

-He doesn't know how to feel about that, exactly.

-His days pass. When he recognizes a song she's singing, sometimes he hums along. Time passes peacefully, and his playlist grows with every new song his soulmate sings.

-He doesn't place in the Sports Festival. He's not that upset. He's acclimated to the idea that his classmates may be stronger, and that he has room to grow. His soulmates voice calms him in the evenings when he feels his angriest, and he thinks.

-He doesn't want to be awful and angry when he finally finds his soulmate.

-The end of the sports festival brings new friends, and soon he can't stop texting Lillian. She's wittier and bolder than he ever would've assumed. He likes her, he decides.

-They become close faster than he'd thought they would. She's funny, and a quick thinker, and smart. When internships start, be finds himself watching her gulp down some spicy ramen without flinching. He has to smile a little, feeling nervous for now reason at all as he watches her.

-Lillian is going to do a concert event with Mic to end her internship. He makes Chad drive them, watching as she hesitantly picks a song. She picks some song from a kids show. Present Mic let's her take the stage.

-The voice that echoes from the speakers when she sings along is familiar. He hears it in the back of his head, echoing. His heart manages to drop and soar at the same time.

-His cheeks go red and he grins wider than he ever has in his entire life.

-Lillian is his soulmate. And looking at her, her long hair whipped by the wind and her eyes shining, he decides that it's the best outcome he ever could've received.

danganronpa characters as fundies or vice versa

Oh my goodness, this ask has been so much fun to answer! It took me a little bit of brainstorming, but I think I’ve found some good fundie/character pairs. I really should be doing my homework but oh well. Warning: this post is going to have Danganronpa spoilers.

For those of you who don’t know, Danganronpa is a Japanese series that is basically a Hunger Games/Ace Attorney hybrid in which sixteen high school students are trapped and the only way out is to murder someone else and get away with it in a class trial. The students go to a school called Hope’s Peak, which recruits talented students from all over. Each student is known as the “Ultimate X,” with X meaning their talent. For example, there’s an Ultimate Baseball Player, Ultimate Anthropologist, and Ultimate Artist.

I’m still internally screaming about how great of a matchthese two are. They’re both blonde, bubbly, preppy optimists, and they’re both completelypiano obsessed. The only thing that could make this match more perfect is if Chadand Shuichi in any way resembled each other.
