A Los Angeles federal judge has denied Disney’s motion to dismiss the lawsuit which was filed by Carano after she was ousted from the Disney+ “Star Wars”-linked streaming series “The Mandalorian” three years ago over social media posts comparing the political climate in the US to the Holocaust.
US District Judge Sherilyn Peace Garnett, who was appointed to the bench by President Biden, rejected Disney’s claim Wednesday that it had a “right to dissociate its own artistic message from Carano’s outspoken ‘political beliefs.'”

I'm sorry but I think it would be objectively funny if the same week Gina Carano filed that lawsuit basically admitting she's broke while also attempting to throw Pedro under the bus.... If Marvel officially announced Pedro as Reed Richards in Fantastic Four.
Kind of like when she was originally fired and he was announced in TLOU in like the same day.

people who are progressive online tend to make up unreasonable shit to get mad at so they feel better about harassing people they dont like, even when the thing they get mad at isnt something they get mad at usually
(This came in shortly after the r/systemscringe Hellenist decided to feign being upset because I mentioned Tartarus. 🙄)
So, yes... this can certainly a problem in left-leaning circles.
My host was in the Steven Universe Fandom when people tried to cyberbully a fan artist into committing suicide because she drew Rose Quartz a bit thinner than normal. There are definitely bullies out there who will take these issues way too far.
What I find striking in these cases is that anti-endo tactics far more resemble those of the alt-right.
See, in my experience, actual progressives, even if they go overboard, are genuinely upset over the thing they claim to be upset over.
The alt-right and other bigots learned these tactics to give themselves the appearance of the moral high ground while actually just using them to defend bigotry.
Gina Carano recently filed suit against Disney for firing her. Rather than argue "Disney is bad because they fired Gina Carano for transphobia" or "Gina Carano should have the right to compare right-wingers to holocaust victims," they instead went with this...
“Even though ‘the Force is female,’ Defendants chose to target a woman while looking the other way when it came to men. While Carano was fired, Defendants took no action against male actors who took equally or more vigorous and controversial positions on social media,”
An absolute load of BS, but one that takes the language of the oppressed to try to protect a bigot.
They don't really believe what they're saying for a moment. But they can use that to turn marginalized communities against each other. Make the narrative about transgender people vs women rather than good people vs transphobes.
The whole "tulpas are appropriation" narrative is an example of this. It was invented and pushed by bigots as a talking point to smear endogenic systems. A similar example is how people claimed faegender was appropriation as a way of driving a wedge in the transgender community and turn people against neopronoun users.
Ultimately, I feel this isn't a progressive tactic, but a regressive one that happens to be dressed up in progressive language.

Auntie Cara Strikes Back
Never saw THIS coming. Evidently Gina Carano (a.k.a. The Mandalorian’s Cara Dune) is filing a wrongful termination suit against Lucasfilm and Disney.
The tl;dr version: In 2021 Carano posted some Conservative opinions on Twitter, and was fired and blacklisted from Lucasfilm/Disney.
Perhaps the campaign for ideological purity is coming to an end?
Your perceived intolerance will not be tolerated

'Star Wars' actor sues Disney with funding from Elon Musk's X
Tumblr media
LOSANGELES
A "Star Wars" actor backed by Elon Musk's X is suing Disney for firing her over inflammatory social media posts about the Holocaust, the pandemic and trans rights.
Gina Carano, who had a major role in the wildly popular Disney+ series "The Mandalorian" until 2021, filed a lawsuit in California on Tuesday claiming wrongful termination.
Tumblr media
The suit says Carano was expressing personal political views but was hounded by an "extreme progressive" online mob, and alleges that Disney's actions and comments had damaged her reputation and ability to find work in the future.
"Today is an important day for me -- I am filing a lawsuit against @lucasfilm & @Disney," she wrote on X.
Tumblr media
The lawsuit is being funded by X, a spokesman for the company confirmed to AFP.
Carano, an outspoken former martial arts fighter-turned-actor, was fired by Disney for what the company at the time dubbed "abhorrent and unacceptable" social media posts "denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities."
Tumblr media
One particularly controversial post shared by Carano appeared to liken being a conservative in the United States to being Jewish in Nazi Germany.
"Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews because the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews," the post said.
Tumblr media
"How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?" it concluded, with a graphic photo of a Jewish woman being beaten in Nazi Germany.
Another post appeared to mock a person for wearing multiple masks during the Covid-19 pandemic in California.
Tumblr media
And Carano had earlier drawn the wrath of members of the trans community for adding "boop/bop/beep" as preferred pronouns on her Twitter profile.
In a statement Tuesday, Carano said she had "never even used aggressive language" but had shared "thought provoking" posts with "respect & the occasional comedy."
Tumblr media
Both her statement and the lawsuit allege that Carano was afforded less right to exercise her freedom of speech than some of her male colleagues.
Carano said she had been contacted by an X lawyer offering to take on her case after she publicly replied to an open offer from Musk to help anyone fired after using X to exercise free speech.
Tumblr media
"As a sign of X Corp's commitment to free speech, we're proud to provide financial support for Gina Carano's lawsuit," said an official post by X on Tuesday.
The lawsuit does not specify the amount of damages Carano is seeking, but claims she lost a role on planned "Mandalorian" spin-off "Rangers of the New Republic" that would have been worth "$150,000 to $250,000 per episode."
Disney did not respond to AFP request for comment.
