Kicking ideas around for the bobacobb fic I keep telling myself I’m going to write one day and I can’t get the concept of “fresh out of the bacta” Cobb struggling with his new mod arm to the point of mental breakdown out of my head. He’s staying in the palace, training every day, working to get used to it and get his old dexterity back, but it’s hard.
He’s struggling to see it as part of himself and that disconnect means he doesn’t always realize how much strength he has in it. He’s learning hand-to-hand, sparring mostly with Fennec but sometimes with Boba as well, when he accidentally hurts one of them.
Blocks a punch from Fennec by grabbing her hand with his metal one and he all of a sudden can’t release his grip. He crushes three of her fingers and would have snapped her wrist if he had taken a second longer to pull himself together.
She doesn’t blame him. Neither does Boba. They have a state of the art medical facility, she’ll be fine, but Cobb is horrified by this loss of control.
He spirals.
Boba isn’t great at offering comfort but he has to try. He finds Cobb slumped against a column in the hallway outside of their training hall.
“I’ve been a lot of things in my time, but I’ve never been frightened of my own damn self.”
“I have.”
Cobb has hazel eyes. Boba never stopped to notice before. Hard to miss now when they’re laser locked onto his.
“When you’ve gone through hell,” Boba says, “you come back changed. You realize you’re capable of things you weren’t before.”
“ ‘wasn’t worried about maiming someone with my bare hands before all this, that’s for sure.”
“You’ll learn to control it—“
“Yeah, well, what if I don’t? What then?!” Cobb interrupts, hysterics creeping into his voice. “Can’t let me loose with a weapon I don’t know how to use soldered to my shoulder. I didn’t come back changed, you brought me back wrong.”

Boba: surviving the sarlacc made me a more compassionate and empathetic person. It taught me the value of things like mercy and forgiveness.
Cobb: I CRUSHED A WOMAN’S HAND WITH MY HORRIBLE METAL DEATH ARM THAT I DIDNT ASK FOR IN THE FIRST PLACE AND NOW IM TERRIFIED TO EVER TOUCH ANOTHER LIVING SOUL AGAIN
Boba: we’ll work on that

Boba Fett speaking to his bantha as he releases it to return to the wilds of Tatooine. Image from The Book of Boba Fett, Season 1, Episode 4, The Gathering Storm. Caption reads: Find other banthas. Make baby banthas - Boba Fett.
“I don’t know. The Build A Bantha Factory? Maybe you should ask the Daimyo?”
With that said, the Mandalorian fairly leapt out of chair he had been sitting in to polish his new vambrace and hurried out of the cabin like he had somewhere to be and only just remembered it.
Grogu just watched him and shook his head. They were on Nevarro. Daimyo Fett was on Tatooine. How could he ask such a busy, important person, so many parsecs away, where little banthas came from? His dad was right there and Grogu hadn’t thought the question was that hard to answer. Although, if the Mandalorian thought that little critters came from factories he might not understand enough about zoo-ology to answer any of his other questions either.
It wasn’t like Grogu had asked him to describe in detail how baby banthas were created. He knew about reproduction and biological processes. He’d studied all that at the Jedi temple. The Jedi had an absolute need to make sure their younglings, padawans, and knights understood basic aspects of reproduction.
They didn’t want to increase the number of Force sensitive people by accidentally starting some sort of ‘Make a Jedi’ program. They had to be blunt and frank in those discussions. People were people after all and relationships that had a result of a new person being added to the galaxy were mostly the definition of ‘attached’. So you had to have ‘the talk’. Easy, peasy.
What Grogu had actually wanted to know was literally where the little banthas were kept, because he never saw them with the big full grown banthas. Did the Sand People have a special place for them on Tatooine. Did they actually have to go off planet and find them on the bantha home world? Did they actually have to go to Camino and clone them? Now that had been a kind of factory environment as Grogu understood things, but he didn’t know what variety of critters the Caminoans made. If they could make humans, they could make banthas. Right?
The whole line of thought had started when he was going through his sketches from their last trip to Tatooine. Grogu liked to put a control number on each sketch and then enter data about it in his datapad, so he could keep track of what he had sketched as well as when and where he’d been.
He noticed that a lot of his Tatooine sketches depicted scenes that involved Bantha, but none of them showed the little ones. So that got him thinking. Maybe the Sand People didn't want a baby bantha making the long trek into the areas adjacent to Mos Eisley. What if they were afraid of the starships? Or the pirates and gamblers?
Grogu wouldn’t blame them if they kept the little ones away from Mos Eisley. If Peli Motto saw them she’d swoon because they were so cute, offer to feed them, and then sell them to buyers who hadn’t even realized that they wouldn’t fit in their ship’s cargo bay and then sell them an expansion kit for the ship, while paying the Jawas to return them to the Sand People because she knew better than to really steal their bantha, whadda ya think she is? A private?! Grogu could see her doing that right then and there. And hear her. Uff.
Then he thought about the Sand People they had met in Freetown, you know, formerly known as Mos Pelgo. No little ones there either. How did the Sand People protect them from critters like Krayt dragons? The dragons could travel underground, rear up through the planets crust and pounce on anything that seemed like food, which had included more than one full grown bantha. They were a formidable enemy and somehow they had to be kept away from the little ones. Did the Sand People know about some sort of plant or mineral that Krayt Dragons hated the smell of and did they use it just around the little bantha corral to protect them? Grogu wanted to know.
The cook at the Jedi Temple used to put all sorts of veggies and other smelly things around the kitchen, hoping to keep he and Ian out of the storerooms that contained the flash fried frogs and chicken nuggets. Grogu thought the chicken nuggets were okay, but really preferred the frogs. Ian of course just wanted the chicken nuggets and the hot sauce. Master Yoda was not amused when the two younglings managed to thwart the cook’s plan almost everyday. Grogu had gotten very good at lifting things with the Force because of that.
Grogu sighed and put the sketches and datapad away. He’d just have to wait until they went to Tatooine again and met up with some Sand People so he could ask them his question. He felt sure that they would understand and wouldn't just run away as if he wanted to discuss their reproductive biology with them.
The only question about reproduction that Grogu had ever had was ‘Are there more frogs and are they fried or fresh’.

For the character ask game… 25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now? (Din, Grogu, Boba and Fennec—all, some, or just one if you don’t want to do too many 😉)
I LOVE this question tysm 💕
My first impression of Din was colored by intrigue; I knew next to nothing about the show going into it, but I’ve always loved silent stoic masked characters, and then they made him a cool, capable lone gunslinger type?? Awesome, I’m already into it
And then as the first episode went on and we get the religious/cultural aspect of his code going into the covert, the deference he gives the Armorer and the mere GLIMPSES of his past in the flashback (all of this sequence of scenes scored by Ludwig Göransson’s incredible soundtrack), I was suddenly SUPER invested in this guy. They’ve already made him complex and interesting and I’ve loved every second so far, what’s next??
And then they introduce the kid at the end. And he’s possibly the cutest thing to come out of Star Wars. And you know just from looking at him what his species is meant to imply. And the second Din shot IG-11 I knew immediately what kind of story this was going to be and I was hooked
I was a fan of Star Wars before season 1 of The Mandalorian, but season 1 made me a Star Wars Fan™
I was also super intrigued by Fennec and was really impressed with Ming-Na Wen (no surprise there, she’s a great actress) and I was SHOCKED that they legitimately killed her off bUT THEN WE GET A POST-CREDITS SCENE!! I’M ALL IN BABEYYY! GIVE ME MORE OF HER!
As far as first impressions go of Boba Fett, I was passingly familiar with the character beyond surface level canon lore and I’d read half of one book where I really loved his character (The Mandalorian Armor by K. W. Jeter, Boba’s characterization there is solid and a lot of the basis for how I’ve always viewed and written him), but his reintroduction via “The Tragedy” was one of THE BEST character intros EVER. It’s one of the best fight scenes in terms of how it was shot and how he’s depicted; Fett is framed as and successfully shown to be a POWERHOUSE of strength, skill, intimidation, and sheer stage presence. It’s one of my favorite sequences to come from Star Wars, especially season 2 of Mando. I was so jazzed about it I was scream-texting my sister and I could just KEEP going on about it. Boba Fett in that episode is SOOOOO GOOD
Aaaaand… Then season 2 finishes and we get TBoBF.
I still love Mando and the kid as they were originally written, but I don’t love what they’ve done with the story and direction of this (and adjacent shows). Season 2 was messy and I wasn’t as big of a fan but I thought “okay maybe the story’s just going in a different direction and I should see what the creators have in mind” but by TBoBF I realized (with all four of those characters) OH, no, the showrunners didn’t have a cohesive game plan or long term story planned out with any meaningful thought, and by season 3 I realized I was pretty much done with whatever direction the original creators were taking the characters. I have better ideas and creators of something I used to like aren’t above criticism and they’re not immune to fans expecting better of them. You have control of one of the biggest franchises on earth and you can’t afford better writers? I don’t care about production quality or quantity of shows if the stories themselves are bad. Do better.
(Also not only are the stories not great, it sucks to see TBoBF, a show led by two veteran actors and people of color, be as badly written and received as it was. It, like many things, wasn’t the actors’ faults. It had a bad script and bad direction and now it seems like Boba’s character— one that has had a long and LASTING cultural presence— is being put on a shelf because the show wasn’t received well, but Disney/the Star Wars producers aren’t admitting to their role in its failure.)
These actors deserved better, the source material deserved better, and I’m disappointed by how quickly it went downhill and, in my opinion, isn’t salvageable based on how they’ve handled all of the original story hooks and character arcs. I have zero excitement for the movie and aside from Andor (which is not without its own flaws in other ways) I’ve haven’t enjoyed any of the other Star Wars shows in the last four years 🤷♂️
So I guess in short, love the initial characters, dislike the present depictions based on later material
Ask Game
#ask games#The Mandalorian#The Mandalorian crit#TBoBF crit#My good opinion once lost etc etc#I try to balance how much I talk about what I’m critical of with how much I DO love#But Star Wars is making it hard to talk about what I like when they keep doing subpar work#Q&A#hounds speaks

speaking of, how would you recommend getting into star wars? i’ve been wanting to get into it because of your blog but i don’t know if it’s necessary to watch all of the movies or if i can just watch the series that are on disney… basically any advice you give me i will listen to 😭
if you want to see the characters I write about, you'll need to see at least the first 6 movies! that sounds like a lot, and it is, but they're enjoyable, and you can take them slowly.
the original trilogy, the main star wars movies, are episodes 4, 5, and 6. You'll watch them in order, 4 (A New Hope), 5 (Empire Strikes Back), and 6 (Return of the Jedi). After you watch those 3 movies, you can move onto the prequels, which is the main trilogy that I write about (Obi-Wan and Anakin are both a part of the prequel trilogy). You'll watch episode 1 (The Phantom Menace), 2 (Attack of the Clones), and 3 (Revenge of the Sith). It's important to watch the movies in that order, (4 -> 5 -> 6 -> 1 -> 2 -> 3) as that's the order they were released in, and subsequently how they were intended to be viewed.
There are three movies beyond those six, the 'sequel trilogy', and while they have their good moments, I've never written about any of their characters before, so you won't go into it with any exposure to those movies. They have.. a bad reputation, and I can't say I disagree with it, but it's really not the actors' fault; the movies were written differently than the previous ones and not a lot of people enjoyed that new writing style. Regardless, I think they're still worth watching, if only to get a full scope of the 'Skywalker Saga'. So, if you're going to give them a shot, the movies should be watched in this order: 4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 9.
After those movies, if you're interested, you can start peppering in some of the television series. The one I write most adjacent to is The Clone Wars, a 7 season animated show with an accompanying movie that should be watched before the series. That show details a war effort that features Anakin and Obi-Wan as well as their fellow Jedi. I highly recommend it, it's very popular within the fandom and for good reason.
After clone wars, you might be interested in shows like The Mandalorian, Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Book of Boba Fett, Andor, The Bad Batch, Rebels, Ahsoka, or the animated shorts Tales of the Jedi.
I know this all sounds overwhelming when it's laid out like this, but don't panic. You are, of course, not required to watch anything at all, but I wanted to lay out a map of the content you'd be most likely to consume if you wanted to get into the franchise. At the very least, I think the movies are a good chunk of the franchise; you can watch them and be completely satisfied with star wars without ever touching the shows, or the numerous comics and novels that accompany that content.
however you indulge in the franchise, i hope you enjoy it! It can be a lot of content but it's my personal opinion that a lot of it is worthwhile, and what isn't can be made up for with what is.

In case you're wondering where I've been...
I was writing a Yuletide! For the first time in I don't know HOW long. It was good to get back and I am pretty happy with what I was able to do!
Now I have 3.5 days to finish a quilt that is a Christmas present (eep) and do other holiday-adjacent things and THEN I should be able to resume regular operations.
What's coming next:
My Yuletide story!
The rest of "The Ritual of Commitment" (two chapters to go! Depending on how everything else this week shakes out, one of those chapters might actually come out before Yuletide reveals.)
The last chapter of Keeps Getting Harder To Find (I'm SO EXCITED about this chapter, y'all. So. Excited. Stuff Happens in that chapter that leads directly into like four other planned stories in the series and I've been biting my tongue and not talking about it for MONTHS because I didn't want to spoil it.)
PROBABLY after that I will begin posting Operation Starbird. I didn't finish it during NaNo, because of COVID (bleh), but I have a very robust outline and a good chunk of the draft.
I am noodling around with another chapter (or possibly two) of "The Daimyo and the Huttslayer" so if I get something in postable shape in between the longer stuff, you may see it pop up!
Honestly I cannot WAIT to finish chapter 12 of KGHTF. Without giving too much away, I can reveal that it is the first and only chapter in the story - well, let's be honest, it's a BOOK now - that alternates between Boba and Kix POV, and this is because EVERYONE* COMES TO TATOOINE FOR THE RIDUUROK and HIJINKS ENSUE.
Featuring:
The Mudhorn Invitational
Kix's POV is nicknamed "Team Chaos" in the outline and Boba's is nicknamed "Team Drama"
The long-awaited reunion of the Daimyo and the Huttslayer
The answer to one mystery that people have asked me about and two bonus mysteries that nobody has yet
Hilariously terrible bootleg Royal Wedding merchandise
Kix taking his role as Surgeon General of Tatooine extremely seriously
Fennec Shand encouraging chaos for her own amusement
A cameo by the Star Wars version of Cut-Me-Own-Throat Dibbler
Boba Fett accidentally saves the galaxy** by being a little petty and wanting to annoy Han Solo
A daring escape involving the space version of a panel van with a wizard mural airbrushed onto it
Giant foam fingers that look like Din and/or Boba's gauntlets
20+ years was not enough time for it to stop being true that having more than one member of the 501st present in one place at one time is a recipe for CHAOS
*not actually everyone but a LOT of people **well not RIGHT THEN but he sets the events that WILL save the galaxy in motion

Hi there. Hello.
So, I love Death Battle. A lot. It's by far one of my favorite webshows, and like a lot of fans, there are plenty of matchups that I would give my left nut to see them tackle. So, I am officially using this blog that I'm sure nobody cares about to make my official
TOP 16 MOST WANTED MATCHUPS
as of 2023 at least. These are going to be ordered from least wanted (but still great) to most wanted, and I'll give my overall thoughts on what I'd want and why I'd think it'll be cool to see, as well as the connections and a potential track name. All thumbnails were made by me, let's go.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/db8d598f0b5d16f42b67f2843b12fbf8/97a6c5ece6f9d2ea-14/s540x810/27793d68c1a499604c7ad165ce4c4abc32a6d0fd.jpg)
#16: Locus vs Din Djarin (Red v Blue vs Star Wars)
Connections: Two ruthless bounty hunters who rarely show their faces who were originally not interested in forming relationships with anyone, just acting as killers. That was, until they met someone who needed help protecting and had a change of heart, turning over a new leaf.
Potential Track Name: Beskars of the Past
I know what you're thinking: "Isn't this just Boba Fett vs Predator 2: Electric Boogaloo?" While yes, these two are similar to Boba and John Yautja, there's plenty in this matchup to give this a different feeling than that episode had. You can have actual banter between these two that doesn't rely on forced movie quotes, higher stakes if the animation is set up like Locus is hunting Grogu, and there's more interesting weapons that can be used, like Locus' shield and Din's rifle. For this matchup, I'd say give Din the Darksaber, only because a final battle between that and the Great Key would be really cool, having Din use a stronger weapon than the key, but one he's not at all skilled with. There's more than enough here to make this a solid spiritual successor to Boba's three episodes without bringing him back.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/e53d455284c081463725aaec9d2f8eb4/97a6c5ece6f9d2ea-0f/s540x810/b12dfc5eb275fee37d23d9734298348b1c837328.jpg)
#15: Old Man Logan vs The Last Ronin (Marvel vs TMNT)
Connections: Older, more jaded versions of classic comic book heroes, jaded by experiencing the loss of most people in their lives and being forced to keep on living due to specific mutations in their bodies.
Potential Track Name: You've Changed, Man
This is among the most highly requested TMNT matchups, and for good reason. There's just enough different with this matchup that makes it a really solid and debatable version of Wolverine vs Raphael. You can do so much with the storytelling here, too. I'd personally like if the two knew of each other as the Wolverine and Michelangelo, so that both of them can have that moment where they're shell-shocked (haha) by who it is they're really fighting. There can be a moment where Logan's claws don't come out fully and he needs to force them up with his hands, to Mikey's confusion, or there can be a moment where Mikey acts way more brutal than his cartoon counterpart, to Logan's confusion. It'll be a nice way to differentiate between the two and add some storytelling and emotional elements to this script.

#14: Ghost Rider vs Spawn (Marvel vs ...)
Connections: Edgy comic book anti-heroes who were orginally ordinary men who made a deal with the Devil (or devil-adjacent) to become hellspawns at the cost of their servitude, using chains and guns to deliver their version of justice. Eventually they unseated the Devil and became the ruler of Hell. Also, it's an angel vs demon fight.
Potential Track Name: Chained to Hell
I don't even know what to say about this. It's the most basic bitch answer to anyone's favorite Marvel matchup. Both Rider and Spawn deserve a runback due to how much content that wasn't used in their episodes and how long ago they were, and both have plenty of weapons and abilities they can use to make this fight interesting. Out of all the matchups on this list, this actually has a chance of happening this season, given how people said that they pentagram in the cipher was teasing this. I hope they're correct, but I wouldn't be mad either way.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/7be52879c1fc7b4a7b914a1c365e66a3/97a6c5ece6f9d2ea-54/s540x810/847f68a1108caa29985531dda5b3d09b950ce3da.jpg)
#13: Jimmy Hopkins vs Karma Akabane (Bully vs Assassination Classroom)
Connections: Two delinquent children with a long history of violence who came into a new classroom ready to cause trouble, only for them to learn the error of their ways and be on the paths for forging something else out of their lives, changing up their school's entire social hierarchy.
Potential Track Name: Juvenile Justice
I fucking love both Bully and Assassination Classroom. While other matchups like Jimmy vs Yandere-Chan or Koro-Sensei vs Monokuma work, I don't know, there's just something about this matchup that hits for me. I really like the idea of these two talking trash to each other the entire animation, both of them pulling out their non-lethal weapons like stink bombs and BB guns, and running around the Bullworth campus avoiding getting caught by prefects and teachers. I also really like the dynamic of Jimmy being more physical and using his guns while Karma is way more strategic, using his advanced training to get ahead. I don't know why, but I really like this matchup. It would be so fun to see play out.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/5e4b2b51c6d6a5895224003769805480/97a6c5ece6f9d2ea-90/s540x810/fb5abeadeb0019bb80776b03f5bf88c1329149d4.jpg)
#12: Elliot Dunkel vs Guy Hamdom (El Goonish Shive vs She-Zow)
Connections: Two teenage boys who can transform into female superheroes, originally dreading this until learning that they had a mission to protect their small towns.
Potential Track Name: She's a Superhero!
Despite the gimmicky nature of this matchup at first glance, there's a lot more to it. You can have the fight start out with both of them in their base form, where Elliot has the advantage due to his Anime-Style Martial Arts training, until Guy turns into She-Zow and forces Elliot to transform as well. I'd love if we get a brief fight with Elliot as his cat form before he turns into Cheerleadra, but I'd understand if that's too much. Speaking of too much, She-Zow has a lot of weapons and abilities at their disposal. To name a few, there's a Boomerang Brush, Lipstick Laser, Shrink Ray, Vanishing Cream, she can wink so hard she creates gusts of wind, she can make her fist grow bigger, and she can even do a Sailor Moon-esque sonic shriek. I'd love to see She-Zow bust out all of these weapons, only for Cheerleadra to just brute-force her way through all of them. Despite Elliot's obscurity and She-Zow's problematic writing, I still think this matchup is worth doing. Just don't watch the show She-Zow's based on, it's not very good. I just wanted a good matchup for my boy Elliot.

#11: Ridley vs Vile (Metroid vs Mega Man)
Connections: Villains from classic NES/SNES series with purple motifs and cybernetic enhancements that have a personal vendetta against the protagonist of their series, who they fought and almost killed on multiple occasions if not for an outside force messing with them.
Potential Track Name: Ride for Revenge
I know there's a lot of debate over who Ridley should fight, with some people saying Rayquaza and others saying Vilgax, but I personally think Vile is the best option for him. Both have great potential for banter and some cool exchanges, like a beam struggle or Vile busting out all the Ride armors to compete with Ridley physically. The big question is if Ridley would have his cybernetics or not. I'd vote yes, but only so that you can have Ridley start the fight with his full enhancements to lose them as the fight progresses, mimicking how he progresses in canon and to simulate battle damage on him. Plus, I'd love for the fight to start out like Vile is investigating a planet when Ridley starts picking off his crew one by one, similar to how he does in his Smash Bros. trailer. Metroid and Mega Man are franchises I've gained more and more appreciation for, and this matchup would be so cool to see.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/9c75966e30e91f930496644ba73f89b7/97a6c5ece6f9d2ea-86/s540x810/e887b7e6ffc42160f2bc10720957c02c05c3c9c7.jpg)
#10: Yor Forger vs Beatrix Kiddo (SpyxFamily vs Kill Bill)
Connections: Two fake brides who are secretly assassins that specialize in blades.
Potential Track Name: Newlydead
I again don't have much to say about this other than "it's fucking cool." Yes, it's a complete stomp in Yor's favor, yes Beatrix only has 2 movies to work with, and yes, this is a street-tier fight between who people with not a lot of weapons to work with, but I don't care. This is the female version of Bond vs Wick, what's not to like? Yor is one of my favorite anime characters, and Kill Bill is a movie I love to death, so seeing them both be covered would be awesome. Plus, there's plenty of potential for cool moments, like both of them pushing through lethal wounds to keep fighting. In particular, I would like Beatrix to land the heart-exploding technique on Yor, but have her keep going to show how resilient she can be. Really, this can just be a cool ass sword fight and nothing else and I'd be happy.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/5e16f5cc6bbb1c897ffd740d5f19efcf/97a6c5ece6f9d2ea-83/s540x810/799354410e1d0f8e1305ac3631b07d95dd56da33.jpg)
#9: William Afton vs Junko Enoshima (Five Nights at Freddy's vs Danganronpa)
Connections: Main antagonists of their series who were behind most of the events that happened, using robot bears to kill children.
Potential Track Name: Remnants of Despair
I know, I know, lot of negative feelings towards this matchup. While I get the criticisms, I think there's plenty here to make for a great episode. Junko can take control of the Monokumas and have those protect her, as well as having plenty of weapons on her own and Alter Ego Junko. William, meanwhile, has the springlock crank, a fucking gun, a time-travelling ball pit, hallucinatory disks, and an ai alter ego of his own (I know it's technically an ai reconstruction of him, but shush). Plus, you can have major moments in this animation where they both use their intellect to get one-ups over each other. I would love there to be a scene where William has Junko dead to rights, there is no escape for her, only for her to start laughing uncontrollably and say that she loves the despair she's feeling. The only problem I forsee is how they'll tackle the FNAF story, but that's easy to work around. I kinda get why this matchup is taken with such vitriol, but I still love it and would love to see it happen someday.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/d91f88e7051f64bd8ba270c07a229708/97a6c5ece6f9d2ea-c3/s540x810/ea2cacf98db653d4e88bdb2e43af6c1e030fcaec.jpg)
#8: Kimiko Miyashiro vs Nezuko Kamado (The Boys vs Demon Slayer)
Connections: Ordinary girls who live in worlds where dangerous super-powered individuals run free that eventually became one of those individuals after their families where murdered. Due to their powers, they became extremely protective of their brothers and joined a team of people who stop the super-powered individuals, eventually falling in love with one of the members.
Potential Track Name: Josei no Seizon-Sha
This would honestly be just a better version of Mileena vs X-23. This would have to be a high-paced fight between two girls who brutally tear each other apart, only to quickly heal from these wounds and get right back into the fight 2 seconds later. There's so much potential for cool moments that you can focus on because these two don't say much. One scene I'd love to see is if Kimiko ripped a tree off its roots and pinned Nezuko's arm with it, only for Nezuko to rip her arm off to take a swing at her, regrowing the arm like it's nothing. This fight sounds way too cool to pass up and I wouldn't miss it for the world.

#7: Aragorn vs Jon Snow (Middle Earth vs Game of Thrones)
Connections: Literary rivalry between two human warrior kings in fantasy worlds.
Potential Track Name: A Song of Snow and Flames
I mean, duh, right? This has been a debate ever since both these series hit the mainstream, and not just in vs debating circles. You'd be shocked to know that I haven't watched Game of Thrones or read the original books, but I am a huge fan of the Middle Earth books and the LOTR movies, and Jon Snow is a character who interests me a lot. With the release of Sauron vs Lich King and Undead vs Dragonborn now making fantasy matchups actually cool and hip with the kids, I forsee that this will at least be in consideration for future season of the show. It's not particularly close, but it's still rad as hell.

#6: Raven vs Sailor Saturn (DC vs Sailor Moon)
Connections: Magical girls on teams of peacekeepers who are seen as misfits due to their past trauma with their abusive parents, but with the power of their friends, learned to overcome it and make their own destinies.
Potential Track Name: Titans of Silence
Raven was a character who meant a lot to me growing up, with me seeing a lot of myself in her, and the same can be said about Tomoe when I first watched Sailor Moon later on in life. Both perfectly straddle the line between cool as fuck and being genuine sympathetic characters; easily some of my favorites in their respective shows. So, imagine my joy when I realized that this matchup had plenty of great animation potential. Both have so many neat abilities they can use, it'll be cool to see them bounce off each other. Raven is a returning character, but her episode against Twilight mainly focused on emotion-manipulating magic. Here, you can focus on the more destructive side of Raven, perfectly in line with Tomoe being the guardian of silence and destruction. One scene that could perfectly exemplify this is a moment where Tomoe strikes her glaive on the ground, destroying the planet the fight is taking place on, forcing them both to fight on the bits of the exploding planet. This has a lot of potential, and I'm not alone in seeing it.

#5: Pennywise vs Freddy Kreuger (It vs Nightmare on Elm Street)
Connections: Two demonic horror icons who create nightmares and feast on people's fears.
Potential Track Name: New Nightmares
I feel like out of every single matchup on this list, this has probably the most animation potential, since both of them can do pretty much anything they put their minds to. Despite the nature of their powers, they're not bound by a single person or by being specifically in dream realms, this animation can just be a fun, chaotic, terrifying fight between two reality warping demons. What I love about this matchup is that they both have so many ways to banter with each other and insult one another. Obviously verbal insults are on the table, but both can shapeshift into characters and people from each other's past. Pennywise can taunt Freddy as anybody from Elm Street, the people who killed him, or even Jason Vorhees as a cool reference, and Freddy can turn into any of the Loser's Club. I'd love if they turned into Wes Craven and Stephen King and pretended to be their creators renouncing their creations. This matchup is only bound by the crew's imaginations (and budgetary restraints), and I would love to see what they could come up with. Just don't turn this into Jason vs Michael 2 and have it be about Jane Shlane.

#4: Henry vs The Second Coming vs Red vs Fancy Pants Man (Henry Stickmin vs Animator v Animation vs Dick Figures vs Fancy Pants Adventures)
Connections: Four stick figure characters who were pioneers of their specific genre in the world of internet animation and Flash games.
Potential Track Name: Stick it to 'Em
Yes, I'm using the name that Brandon Yates used is his track for this matchup, bite me. As for the reason I want this matchup to happen it's simple: I think it'd be really cool. I loved stick figure animations and games growing up. I spent probably all of middle school thinking about the cool animator vs animation episode that I watched or the funny things that happened in Dick Figures and Henry Stickmin, and I only just now got around to playing the Fancy Pants Adventure games, but they're still really good! I love all of these characters, so why not have them kill each other? And yes, The Second Coming is the AvA rep because he has more to work with than anyone else. Speaking of, the animation potential for this matchup is through the roof. Henry and Red have so many weapons to pull from, and TSC and Fancy Pants Man can interact with the environment in so many cool and creative ways that they're bound to be tons of cool shit that happens. In terms of who wins; Fancy Pants is obviously the Volnutt here, Red isn't doing particularly much, but I've heard plenty of good arguments for either Henry or TSC. I'm personally leaning towards TSC, only because I want a death that involves a choice screen popping up like in the Henry Stickmin games, only for TSC to completely ignore that and stopping Henry from making the choice in the first place. This matchup has only gotten better with time, and I would love nothing more than this to be Death Battle's tribute to Flash animation.

#3: Shuma-Gorath vs Starro the Conqueror (Marvel vs DC)
Connections: One-eyed alien conquerors based on starfish that can control people’s minds.
Potential Track Name: Seeing Stars
Look, I know Marvel vs DC matchups have gotten really stale ever since a certain season dropped during the pandemic, but a lot of those matchups can still be really creative. We got a glimpse of that with Ant-Man vs Atom and Wanda vs Zatanna, but Scarecrow vs Mysterio lends itself well to horror and trippy visuals, and matchups like Swamp-Thing vs Man-Thing and Dormammu vs Trigon can have the hosts explore the Marvel and DC cosmologies without seeming like huge undertakings. But for me, my personal favorite Marvel vs DC matchup is Starro vs Shuma. Both these 2 are some of my favorite villains in all of comic books, and I would love to see how high-scale Death Battle can make this matchup be. The tricky part here is getting their personalities down, since they both can oscillate between "goofy ridiculous golden age weirdos" and "lovecraftian horrors beyond comprehension." The way I'd handle it would be to have the fight start out as a campy kaiju fight between giant starfish that gradually escalates beyond the plane of reality, taking the fight to the Nightmare Realm and beyond, with both of them becoming more etherial and horrifying as the fight progresses. I don't have much to say besides that. This is by far my favorite Marvel vs DC fight and one that I wouldn't complain about being the sort of farewell to that trope on Death Battle.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/416c92f84b071155af5a6cc405f0bffe/97a6c5ece6f9d2ea-c6/s540x810/b5479b1d5dbe19088c67339846f93f636fc028a5.jpg)
#2: Nimona vs Grace Scuiridae (... vs El Goonish Shive)
Connections: Two shapeshifters who were demonized for their unnatural abilities. Both would be the target of capture for a major antagonist, meeting up with a mad scientist that they would soon grow attached to. Both can mold their bodies into whatever form they wish and both desired to go down opposite paths; Nimona wanted to become a villain and Grace wanted to become a hero. Eventually, both Nimona and Grace would end up confronting the people who tortured them all that time ago and face off against them, showing off a powerful rage-induced form that they would get lost in until one of their friends helped them calm down.
Potential Track Name: Shady Shapeshifters
I think I'm the only person on the planet to ever conceive of this matchup, but fuck it. Nimona and El Goonish Shive are two of my favorite webcomics of all time, with the movie adaptation of Nimona being my second most anticipated film of this year (second to Spider-Verse, but still). So, once I saw the similarities between these two, I fell in love with this matchup. As much as I would love to see how Death Battle tackles the stories of Nimona and EGS, it's the animation and writing that excites me the most. The start honestly writes itself; Nimona starts some shit in Moperville, Grace goes to stop her. Easy peasy. But it's the rest of the fight choreography and writing that I think could make this something special. Nimona and Grace have such different ways of shapeshifting, so it'll be cool to see Nimona's rapid beastial shapeshifting contrast with Grace adapting her own body to counter what Nimona's doing. You can have Nimona breath fire at Grace and be confused as to why she seems completely fine (since Grace's fur is fireproof), you can have a moment where they both transform into squirrels and awkwardly scratch at each other in the trees, you can even have an exchange where they're talking about their geneology and Nimona says "I'm a shark!" and Grace replies "Well, did I mention I'm part space alien?" Speaking of the writing, you can have a sort of narrative follow the fight, where Grace tries her best to pacify Nimona, who keeps getting frustrated that Grace isn't really taking the fight seriously. Then when Grace accidentally triggers Nimona's trauma from their past and/or calls them a monster, Nimona goes berserk and starts destroying Moperville (either the comic dragon or the film beast works for me, but I prefer the dragon). Then Grace looks at all the destruction they're causing to her home and starts getting mad too, transforming into her berserker form like she did against Damien. I imagine that the kill would be an accidental one where the winner starts getting emotional while the loser comforts them as they're dying. Even though there's one matchup I love more than this, given how obscure these two are in the realm of versus, this would get a much bigger reaction out of me. Speaking of a matchup I love more...
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/fc081a57770c9a0f2e8b785c55cb30d8/97a6c5ece6f9d2ea-57/s540x810/c1e119734215973cbe66c3aaa63fd4d898c03fe5.jpg)
#1: Percy Jackson vs Zagreus (... vs Hades)
Connections: Two sons of one of the "Big Three" gods , who have massive daddy issues due in part to them being lied to about their parents. They eventually embark on a quest where they need to go in and out of Tartarus to see their biological mothers. Both have been trained by famous Ancient Greek heroes, both have had weapons and abilities passed onto them from the Olympian Gods, and both have connections to Achilles.
Potential Track Name: Thicker Than Water
I know what you're thinking: "What about Percy vs Harry Potter? Or Pit vs Zag?" While I think Pit is a fine opponent for Zagreus, I am not a big fan of Harry vs Percy for a lot of reasons. I won't get into them now, but I'm kind of over Harry Potter as a franchise at the moment. Hades, on the other hand is my favorite game of all time and Percy is my favorite fictional character of all time, so imagine how shocked I was that nobody else was really suggesting this matchup even though it would be really fucking cool to see. Now, there's not really much in terms of connections (more than Korra and Storm had tho :P) but where this matchup shines is the animation potential. Both Percy and Zag have so many weapons and abilities to bounce off each other, it might shock people to learn that Percy isn't just water bender man. He can shake the earth, create storms, and he has a javelin that can fire nets. I would love to see Zagreus use Hestia's boons to create wind vortexes and have Percy create a small storm to counter it, or have Percy use the water created in Poseidon's calling to whip Zagreus around. Obviously the fight would take place in Tartarus or Zagreus can't stand a chance, but I would love if the end took place near the surface world like the final boss does in the game. Hell, I think an appropriate way to start the fight would be to have Percy beon a mission from Hades himself to stop Zag from reaching the surface world. Oh, and the banter here would be awesome to hear; they're basically the same in terms of personality and how they talk. I can go on about this matchup for days, but just know that this is my favorite matchup of all time and I would love love love if Death Battle (or any vs show really) tackled this.
Not gonna happen tho :/

wait what parts of star wars do you like? why don’t you like the others? just curious! <3
anon, i am about to try to be sooooo normal but please note this is me when i talk about the parts of star wars i like:
so in essence, my favorite star wars media is as follows (in order of exposure):
The Prequels
Star Wars: The Clone Wars
Knights of the Old Republic
The Force Unleashed
Rogue One
Star Wars: Rebels
The Mandalorian
i have not yet gotten to The Book of Boba Fett or Andor or The Bad Batch, but they are on my list most DEFINITELY.
when i was a kid, i had a vhs tape of Return of the Jedi. i watched it so many times the tape wore out. i did not care about the story or the characters that much, but the concepts were riveting. the overarching world lore had me in a total chokehold. i consumed every side story book i could get my hands on and watched the prequels in an all night movie marathon at a drive in.
anakin skywalker became my favorite character ever in a piece of media. he was sooooo compelling to me. and knowing he turns dark and ends up the guy in the mask at the end of RotJ??? absolutely fascinated me. fast forward to The Clone Wars tv series coming out. i was TRANSFIXED. i was 16 and it made me feel like a kid again. i loved ahsoka tano with my whole entire heart. i played KotOR and later TFU. if someone says 'galen marek' in my earshot, i am immediately asking if they want to be best friends.
my husband took me to each of the new star wars trilogy and again, nothing about the main story did ANYTHING for me, but the new worlds, the tech, the concepts! then i watched rogue one and for the first time since the prequels i was in love with a star wars movie.
i know probably Too Much about the history of the mandalorians because sabine wren was one of my favorite characters in Rebels and, being a massive TCW fan, the fetts are SOOOO interesting to me! this obviously made me lose my entire mind when a series about A MANDALORIAN was announced, right? wrong. i had zero interest because i was worried it would just be some offshoot of the new series. but i decided to give it a chance because my husband wanted to watch it to talk to his dad about it (the man is very weird and the only thing we have found that the old grump likes is baby yoda, so we get him every piece of grogu merch we can find). i was hooked nearly immediately. it had all the things i wanted: adjacency to the mainline star wars series without being about the main plot, characters i was familiar with and cared deeply about, new characters i came to adore with my entire soul, new planets and armor and tech, and lore.
so you ask why i don't like most star wars things and i guess it boils down to the lack of lore. it doesn't feel like most mainline star wars media explores the nooks and crannies of lore that i am most interested in or expounds upon much outside of the current necessary information and overarching Good Versus Evil plot. at its core, to me, star wars is a space fantasy (not sci-fi like a lot of people would say) and i like it best when its leaning into the world building of that fantasy.
thanks for coming to my TED talk!

One Thought on Book of Boba Fett (might be mildly spoilerish)
One Thought on Book of Boba Fett (might be mildly spoilerish)
I have one thought on episode five of Book of Boba Fett. I don’t think it’s a spoiler, but because it’s a general thought on the episode and the series as a whole it might be spoiler-adjacent. Spoilerish. Spoileresque. Whatever, if you’re worried about spoilers don’t read any further. Okay? You’ve been warned, even though there shouldn’t be anything to worry about. Okay. Here goes. in bacta, dreaming
Thanks to @redvelvetpanda for the Discord prompts of "bacta tank" and "optimism." Technically, that was for a drabble, but I got a bit out of hand.
Din Djarin dreams in bacta. The Mandalorian & The Book of Boba Fett. Din Djarin + Boba Fett, takes place sometime after ep 2 of BoBF, ~1200 words.
-
The mind… drifts, in bacta.
Gravity is meaningless, holding no power here. His limbs float in the slippery-soft fluid, bereft of all sensation and weight. His body, long held taut in readiness, relaxes of its own volition. His mind wanders skitter-skatter through the warm white void.
For a little while, he tries to hold onto clarity. This is a gift, Din tells himself. Bacta is precious, rare, expensive. He has only ever handled it in patches and gels, scant special provisions for his medipacks bartered for in back alleys adjacent to palaces and grand estates. Generals, queens, emperors, daimyo -- these are the people with entire bacta tanks in their possession. It is an unimaginable luxury for a simple Mandalorian.
If he is a Mandalorian.
…If he is a Mandalorian. The warm liquid slips over his skin, a flame flickering, the forge clean and pure. The Armorer stands before him, firelight rippling over her golden armor. Have you ever removed your helmet?
No, his mouth attempts. Then: an amendment, apologetic, agonized. Yes.
Bubbles pour around the rim of the oxygen actuator. He is drowning. He is floating. He is here. He shifts in the tank, his wounds searing, and he draws a ragged breath that tastes of metal.
His hands curl. The fingers trace a familiar shape, a cage sized to hold something small and round. They twitch, finding themselves empty. It isn’t here. It’s with the armor, he thinks, the realization muzzy and slow.
The armor. Not his armor.
To whom does beskar belong, if not the tribe?
He is a boy on the cusp of manhood, gangling, anxious, eager, his new helmet warm and heavy in his hands. His flightsuit itches at his neck, rubbing against the leather thong of the mythosaur pendant. The suit’s thick cloth doesn’t fit right in the shoulders -- too broad, the seams resting against his biceps -- but the others tell him it will fit, in time. He wants to fidget, but knows the eyes of the tribe are upon him, waiting for the Armorer’s decree. He stands tall and true. Will he be worthy?
The Armorer turns to him. He is in his twilight, a man bent by long years of battle and the weight of blue-painted beskar. His voice rasps holy Mando’a as he raises his hammer to the sky. Its silver head gleams beneath the open suns, and it is so beautiful Din nearly gasps.
Din shivers, heart pounding, hands tensing against his helmet. He speaks aloud the binding vows, and the tribe shouts their approval, the many voices, all tinged by beskar, raised as one.
Tears prick his eyes. A proud smile squirms across his face, the last he will share for nearly thirty years.
He pulls the helmet on.
The bacta swirls around him. It feels like home, like comfort, like safety. It is wholly alien and unfamiliar.
…not wholly unfamiliar. There is a weight in his hand, small and enormous both. His hand closes over it, five fingers against three.
Grogu rests against him, sleepy and safe in his arms. The world is quiet here, in the rich green forests of Sorgan, in the misty blackened trees of Corvus, in the close cockpit of the fallen Razor Crest. Stars stretch far beyond them, hyperspace streaming, the light fantastic coruscating. Suns rise and set in gold and red and yellow, clouds roll on in plumes of white and gray and black. Worlds fall away beneath his feet, dust settling round his boots, grass and stone and sand giving way to his weight. They are unimportant, forgotten in their specifics. Had they ever mattered, before the child?
Do they matter, after him?
Grogu smiles up at him, letting out a small yawn. Din brushes his fingers against the child’s cheek and murmurs a different vow, the words so soft the child does not hear. His promise echoes, lapping back and forth amongst the waves, the words swelling all around him.
A knock jars him. There is a voice. Something taps against the surface of the tank.
“Djarin.” The sound travels thickly through fog and mist and memory. Din opens his eyes, squinting through the bacta.
“It’s time,” says Fett, and Din realizes his wounds and aches have fallen away, lost to the ether. Din slams his fist against the release button. The tank opens, and Tatooine rushes in.
Din shivers as he sits up, the contrast between the warm bacta and the temperature-controlled chambers chilling and sharp. He pulls the oxygen actuator from his mouth and scrubs at his eyes with the back of his hand. “Thank you,” he says, drawing deep a breath of desert air. Even here in the palace, the air tastes of sand and glass. “I will repay you for this.”
Fett studies him, the lines in his face creasing as he does so. “I am certain the Mand’alor will find a way,” he says drily.
Din simply gives him a long, hard look. “Don’t call me that.”
“Mand’alor. Daimyo. There’s no need to run from it, Djarin. You may as well take what’s yours,” says Fett. “Because if you don’t, others will take it from you.” He nods towards the armor and Darksaber, hung with care in the corner. “You know how these things work.” He breaks into a terse chuckle.
“Perhaps. But this is a game I’d rather not play.” He begins to rise. His hand curls over the tank’s rim, fingers brushing against cold sleek duraplast, the texture so different from a soft small hand.
“The tank,” Din says. “Something about the bacta --” He hesitates, reluctant to ask, but needing to know. “It makes you dream, doesn’t it?”
The guards built up in Fett’s face fall, just for a moment, and his eyes focus on the far away. Outside the windows of this chamber lie the sands of the Dune Sea, but Din suspects that Fett sees something well beyond that.
“Yes,” Fett says quietly. “It can bring dreams. Memories of things long past. It’s said you must be careful not to lose yourself in them.” He shrugs, but there is something distant, almost lonesome, in the set of his face and the slump of his shoulders.
Din steps out of the tank, shaking himself clear of as much of the precious bacta as he can. He closes the lid and reaches for a towel, stunned at how easy and natural the action is now. What a marvel, bacta! Twelve hours earlier, he was dragged in here by Fett’s droids, unable to stand and bleeding out. And now --
He strides to his things, inspecting the flightsuit beneath the armor. Its bloodstains and rips have already been repaired. He’ll owe Fett quite a bit for this, all of it deserved.
“I’ve lost much already,” Din says, reaching for his belt. He flips open one of the pouches, letting out a long breath when he sees the little silver ball, gleaming and perfectly intact. He glances at Fett and straightens up. “I don’t intend to lose any more.”
Fett gives him a wry smile. “Spoken like a true Mand’alor.”
Din returns the expression cautiously, his facial muscles working to produce a smirk as he practices keeping his gaze on the other man’s eyes. He’s getting better at this, he thinks. “We’ll see.”
He reaches for his armor, fingers brushing against its familiar strength. The beskar shimmers, beautiful beneath the twin suns’ light, and it calls him home.

This is Jango adjacent l guess. Thoughts on the Boba Fett young reader books and their portrayal of Boba and Jango’s relationship if you’ve read them/know anything about them?
UNFORTUNATELY I'VE NEVER HEARD OF THESE THINGS???
however reading the summary i guess i'm like. like i know this is what happened. that boba has a fucked up childhood post-geonosis (and pre geonosis honestly askldjflasdj) but like lmao jabba the hutt hired a twelve year old to kill a member of the seperatist leadership?????????????? lmao??????
also my entire opinion on the whole 'mandalorian's are adults at 13' thing is "no they are absolutely the fuck not verd'goten is just like. mandalorian confirmation"
#bo speaks#boba fett#i don't have a boba tag yet i think so now it's#boba fettucine#because i found that pun in my star wars cookbook

Hey friend, I don't know if you're the right person to ask about this but based on your blog header thing I thought you might have input.
I've been thinking I want to get back into fic writing and most of what I read is Star Wars fic, but like...the gffa is so intimidating? The lore has been accumulating for almost 50 years?? Normal shit has weird space names like transparisteel??? I feel like I need to get a degree in this when actually all I wanna do is make the sad, pretty men kiss. Please tell me it's cool to not know what the fuck I'm doing. Thank you.
hey!! you absolutely have come to the right place!! in that i do write very much a lot but i also don't think i know anything at all about star wars (aside from the vibes)
i've watched the movies, i've watched most of the tv show the clone wars once through. I've never seen the other animated tv shows (though they're on my list!!!) i've seen the mandalorian and most of the book of boba fett, but i've never actually read one of the actual books or comics. and sure i guess they're not canon? or quasi-canon maybe? but you're right in that there is so so so much lore that i have a hard time figuring it out or keeping it straight.
but i love star wars! so i write fanfiction for it even if i don't know everything (anything). i keysmash planet names and throw together loose bits of lore i think sound cool. "That's Not How The Force Works" is my favorite tag on ao3 because it sure isn't! but it's how i need it to work for this story to work. so today, that's how the Force is going to work.
i think you don't have to know everything about star wars. you don't even have to know like. half. i guess im a less serious writer in that my stories are usually short and are set canon adjacent/divergent (they're set in the GFFA, but someone's not a jedi or they're both not a jedi etc etc), so i can write and not encounter too many issues with not knowing things.
i absolutely am obsessed and in love with every writer for star wars who does research, who figures out the minute details. i love reading that because that's the way their love for the same thing i love looks and it's amazing and i'm constantly blown away by the stories they're able to tell.
but i still like my lil stories too. and there's a place for them in the fandom as well because fandom at its essence is a quiltwork of passion projects come together and as long as you love what you're writing or creating, i think you'll fit in just fine.
#asks#please write if you want to!#i think you'll also find that you know more than you think you do#once you start#things like transparisteel or durasteel or mechno arm#holonet and datapad etc etc#like if youve been reading star wars fanfic words like that absolutely sink in even if you dont realize#and the star wars wiki is monstrous#if youre not a huge fan of research like me#i google a few key words or even the whole question#and the wiki page pops up#and i skim until i find the necessary info#good luck though!!#i promise it's fun and it's low stakes and you don't need to know every facet of the universe#star wars#writing

Racism and BoBF
I haven't watched Book of Boba Fett yet, mostly because I don't trust Disney to do justice to the character. What I've heard from folks who have been watching is encouraging, though. I'm still leery, but I may give it a shot.
It sounds like Temuera Morrison is being allowed input into the show, which is fantastic. There are a lot of Māori influences into who Boba is as a person and I LOVE the sound of that. I'm also liking what I've heard about the Tuskens and how they're being handled. Ep 1 reviews sounded discouraging, but- surprise- it seems it's going to be more layered than one single take.
The biggest problem I've seen so far is, of course, fandom. Middle-aged white men are furious at what Boba has become, with at least one going so far as to say that he was better "when the helmet stayed on."
I've also seen people- including white women- complain that he's "boring" now, that he's been "Disneyfied" (well, DUH), and that he's basically just "Mando Too."
Look. I'm a white girl (or girl-adjacent) too, but this is Red Flag territory. "Boring" is a label that gets applied WAY too often to Brown and Black characters. Witness white fangirl reactions to Finn, who wound up sidelined in his own goddamn movies to make more room for the white villain that the fangirls loved.
If you still want to call Boba "boring," that's fine, but I hope you're able to articulate WHY, other than "he just is." I can find similarities between him and some white characters who are incredibly popular, so there's gotta be something to make Boba different and less good, right? Maybe it's the same problem white fangirls had with John Boyega: they think Temuera Morrison can't act. That he doesn't emote as well. Uh huh. Sure.
I can see being frustrated with this version of Boba being "Disneyfied," because great and little gods do I hate how the Mouse tries to sanitize everything, but until someone else buys the franchise there isn't a heck of a lot that can be done. I am maliciously curious to see what happens with the Kenobi series and if Obi-Wan will suffer any Mouse-related clean-up efforts.
That being said, however, one of the things I like about this "new" Boba is that he's being given a chance to try a different path. I won't call it a "redemption arc" since that's a loaded and inaccurate term, but I think it's great that he's trying to be a good guy now. Or less bad, at any rate.
I've seen people be mad about that, too; that Disney took a great villain, removed all his teeth, and made him a generic hero instead. It's a complaint that sounds valid and could be valid in some cases. The thing is, though, that as much as fans wish they could ignore it, Boba Fett is a Brown man. Villainous Brown men getting a chance to balance out past mistakes isn't something we get to see often, especially not in the racist landfill known as Star Wars. It's important that Boba Fett in particular is getting this chance. Previously, in the SWCU at least, that's an opportunity that has only ever been given to white men.
So, no, I don't really see the problem with a bad guy trying to be good. Especially since there are eleventy billion stories featuring exactly that. And as much as I enjoy who Boba Fett was, I'm not sure he'd really qualify as one of the Greatest Villains of Star Wars. He was memorable, sure, but his appearances were as brief as his dialogue, and as soon as Lucas realized he was getting popular, he killed him off in as humiliating a way as he could.
There's a whole lot of drama surrounding the "original" version of Boba, the white nerdbros who projected themselves onto his blank slate to such an extent that the rest of fandom grew to hate him, and the selfsame white nerdbros who had a collective aneurysm when the PT revealed Boba to be a "whiny" little Brown boy.
He hasn't had a very good history; not in canon and not in fandom. It isn't really a surprise that fandom continues to have issues with him, but personally, I'm more inclined to listen to the nonwhite fans, most of whom have been wildly enthusiastic about BoBF for the representation, the touches to native culture, and the stances taken so far in regards to colonizers. Those are the voices that matter, and they're the ones telling me that maybe I should swallow my distrust of the Mouse and watch to see Boba does next.
One thing I've heard that does sound valid is that it feels like a big chunk of Boba's backstory is missing. That can be frustrating as heck, but one can certainly HOPE that it's something that will be explored in future eps and not, for example, in some bullshit tie-in material like a book or comic. I do agree it'd be nice to know more, though, and that it's a bit of a necessary item to link Then and Now.

🖊 🖊 🖊 + the oc you wanna gush about most!
Cleaning out my inbox and found I still have a shitton of these. Also I just basically said two out of three of these in Discord, but:
Raza: Boba Fett Dynamic Edition
I’m playing with the idea that both Rex and Cody were able to break free from their Order 66 commands, but Cody was sent after Selene and Baby Raza, and he got his shit together just in time / Selene mind tricked him to get the ball rolling and his own brain did the rest. He looks after them and runs interference against other clones, so he ends up close to them, even if Obi-Wan isn’t remotely okay with it when he shows back up for obvious reasons but that gets handled too. Fast forward thirty years, Raza sees Boba and is just confused as all Hell, referring to him as “Uncle Cody.” Boba denies it, says who he is, and when she looks very much Not Okay with the development he’s mildly insulted until he finds out who she is, and then they’re both content to ignore each other very, very loudly.
Going off that, he’s got a whole “Character A calls Character B by their last name til B gets hurt/put in danger”-adjacent thing with her name. She starts off as “Kenobi Spawn”, graduates to “Kenobi”, to “Jedi Whelp” to “Jedi” and then finally to “Raza” or “Kenobi” (with a hell of a lot less animosity than the first time he called her that) depending on his mood/the circumstances that he’s seeing her again.
After the Rescue Mission when Boba finally starts to respect her, after he and Luke seem to be on neutral terms/he doesn’t have to worry about any residual animosity from Raza’s connection to Luke, the pair of them sit down to hash things out and he explains why he can’t stand the Jedi- and Mace in particular. She admits that the couple of times she experienced his Force Ghost as a child, she was super intimidated by him and she thought he was far too quiet and it unnerved her. Boba figures that their differing opinions both overlapping with a general distaste is good enough for him, so as far as he’s concerned, she’s okay in his book (Ha. Pun not intended til after I remembered the title of his series after typing that)

Star Wars Toys Prove That the Legends Expanded Universe Isn’t Dead
https://ift.tt/38VmigA
Disney’s 2012 acquisition of the Star Wars franchise obviously proved consequential, especially after it redefined the Skywalker Saga with a Sequel Trilogy, two standalone films, a successful live-action series, and an array of animated shows. Yet, one sore point (of many) for longtime fans has been the company’s erasure of decades’ worth of beloved Expanded Universe Star Wars novels, comic books, and video games, which were relegated to the non-canon label Legends. However, said erasure doesn’t mean the old canon is gone completely, as exemplified this week by Hasbro, which is dedicating a whole new wave of action figures to the Legends Expanded Universe.
Hasbro has revealed an intriguing quartet for its 6” scaled Star Wars: The Black Series line: Jaxxon, Darth Maul (Sith Apprentice), Carnor Jax, and Luke Skywalker (Heir to the Empire)—each character—or character iteration—hails from the Legends lore that Disney unceremoniously scrapped. Indeed, the fact that an action figure is finally (after decades of niche fan demand) being made for Jaxxon, the space-traveling bunny smuggled from Marvel’s Star Wars comics of the late-1970s/early-1980s, is indicative of a reemergence of the Legends lore.
Moreover, Hasbro’s choices—notably approved by Disney—do not seem random. Rather, they seem complementary to the return of other blasts from the pasts, including Genndy Tartakovsky’s Star Wars: Clone Wars, Star Wars: Droids, and Star Wars: Ewoks to the Disney+ library as well as the debut of Clone Wars bounty hunter Durge to the Disney canon.
Why are these choices significant? Because they reflect a growing trend for the franchise—specifically in the aftermath of The Mandalorian season 2, which further embraced forgotten Legends story elements, such as the Dark Troopers.
The aforementioned characters—save for Jaxxon and the black-clad Heir to the Empire Luke—had been turned into 3 ¾” scale action figures in the years before 2012, and Hasbro has since sporadically released other Legends characters in the Black Series (Grand Admiral Thrawn, Jaina Solo, Darth Revan, Darth Nihilus, Tartakovsky Clone Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi et al). Yet, the act of dedicating an entire wave of the Black Series—Star Wars’ de facto current main action figure line—reveals a mainstream popularity for these characters that extends well beyond the realm of elegiac fanboys. And perhaps an interest in bringing more Legends elements to the Disney canon.
“I’ve been a fan of Star Wars comic books since the 1980s, so the very idea of having action figures based on Star Wars comics publishing is mind-blowing in the very best way,” said Jennifer Heddle, executive editor of Lucasfilm Publishing, in a statement on StarWars.com. “Seeing these figures takes me right back to memories of sitting on my bedroom floor, paging through the latest Star Wars comic, hardly able to believe I was reading original adventures about my favorite characters. Publishing’s ability to create those kinds of memories is a driving force behind what I do, and to have Lucasfilm acknowledge that legacy in this way is absolutely thrilling.”
In a divergence from Jaxxon’s classic cartoonish appearance in Marvel Comics or IDW’s current canon-adjacent Star Wars Adventures series, his debut figure is rendered in a quasi-realistic style, as if to emulate how he would appear in live-action form, a curious choice that leaves one to ponder if such a thing is destined to occur. (Don’t bet on it it.)
It’s no secret that Thrawn, who returned to canon as a villain in the acclaimed animated series Star Wars Rebels, now has live-action prospects glistening after being prominently name-dropped in a season 2 episode of The Mandalorian. It now appears that the evil azure admiral of Timothy Zahn’s classic novel trilogy will manifest in person for the upcoming spinoff series centered on Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka Tano. Moreover, the inclusion of Luke Skywalker from Heir to the Empire is pertinent to this point, since he comes with Thrawn’s pet ysalamiri, a lizard-like creature that the villain kept with him at all times in the story—usually draped around his neck—because it has an innate property that nullifies a Jedi’s Force abilities. The existing Black Series Thrawn figure—which was recently reissued—was notably missing his pet (a 2017 SDCC exclusive deluxe version included his ysalamiri statues seen on Rebels). It’s possible this is all stage-setting for a future Thrawn live-action storyline.

Star Wars: Great Legends Stories You Should Read
By Megan Crouse and 1 other
The shirtless version of Darth Maul is a nice post-Disney callback to Dark Horse’s 2000 comic series, Star Wars: Darth Maul, which showcased the double-blader’s time under the tutelage of Darth Sidious before the events of The Phantom Menace. This rendition of Maul, whose Legends lore resurrection was adapted by the Disney canon via animated shows Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, and live-action movie Solo: A Star Wars Story, has always been popular, showcasing the fuller extent of his intricate body tattoos. It had already inspired multiple action figures in the 3 ¾” line.
Similarly, the inclusion of Carnor Jax revives the once-popular villain from Dark Horse’s 1997 miniseries, Star Wars: Crimson Empire. The character, who survived the destruction of the Second Death Star, is a would-be Sith lord who rose through the ranks of the crimson-clothed Royal Guards and was vying to fill the power vacuum left in the wake of the Emperor’s demise. The imperious endeavor would thrust him into a conflict with fellow former guardsman Kir Kanos, who eventually defected to the Rebels.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
After the tumult that followed the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy, Disney has been doing some serious soul searching about its $4 billion investment, and as The Mandalorian has proven, a back-to-basics ethos is something that fans, young and old, can embrace. Likewise, the arena of toys has always been the franchise’s most reliable popularity metric ever since the 1977 marketing milestone in which kids were sold a piece of cardboard containing an “Early Bird” certificate for unproduced action figures from that year’s surprise biggest box office hit. It will be interesting to see if this Legends Expanded Universe wave of Star Wars’ Black Series figures proves indicative of the franchise’s live-action direction.
