i usually expect the intro to be like SUPER HYPE AND INTENSE yknow which it kinda is! however it is consistent that it fits very well and captures the overall vibe of the entire album the calm beginning with the bell like were walking into an establishment and at the halfway point it picks up its intriguing and the ‘i like you’ adds a subtle eeriness that adds just enough to make one wanna continue listening its v good 👌

LIKE this is COMPLETELY surprising album BUT IN THE BEST WAY POSSIBLE as its described it really is a ‘special’ album as while the title track still has their music style and sound theres still an element of summer (a very Terrifying™ summer BUT a ✨Summer✨ album nonetheless) like the b sides are SO different and COMPLETELY caught me off guard when i listened to the highlight medley YET this group of seven amazing and talented women pulled it off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! its extremely obvious at this point that their steady and organic growth has grown VERY HIGH this time and (although im still very confused by how everything was released and announced BUT i digress) this different kind of method in performing the song the day before seemed to work?????????? A/n: omg i haven’t written for seventeen in so lonngggggg. but like MY MAN^^. also i was debating making this a smau? but i thought I would just format it like the others. I really hope you like it!

gets zero sleep

he has the latest state of the art coffee machine

has a panic attack when he runs out of caffeine

his daughter, Yoona, is everything to him though

shes about three years old, almost four

her mom just wasn’t ready for being a parent so Jihoon took care of his daughter

having put a lot of money in saving Jihoon could actually afford a pretty nice house for his daughter to grow up in

it even had a pool in the back

(one the rest of the boys thoroughly took advantage of)

Yoona is an angel and she is a complete daddy’s girl

Jihoon is also WHIPPED for his daughter

often falls asleep with bows in his hair or cheap makeup on his cheek

He trys to work from home as often as he can

jihoon even installed a full recording studio in the house so boys could come over and record at his home instead of the company

when he did have to leave the house, he tried to take his daughter with him wherever he could

carats loved seeing woozi with his little girl

she was always featured in the behind the scenes of dance practices and mv shootings

she sometimes manages to get in the backs of shots in mvs

carats love playing spot Yoona when Seventeen has a comeback

she is quite the shy little girl though, around people she doesn’t know

she doesn’t like going to fansigns so Jihoon usually has to hire a sitter or ask the staff to keep watch of her backstage

while she is shy she loves dancing so Jihoon put her in ballet lessons

he makes sure to always come to her recitals and most of the boys come to

Minghao and Seungkwan standing up in the back with their phones recording and cheering their heads off as soon as the see Yoona’s little pink tights step out on stage

Jihoon legit having to pull them back down in their seats

but he always gets his little girl flowers after a performance and lets her pick where they all go out to eat after

Hoshi, S.Coups, and Seungkwan help out the most when Jihoon really needs it

since Hoshi works the most with Jihoon while recording, he became Yoona’s unspoken God Father

he gets her little tiger print outfits which drives Jihoon crazy

“Bro no cursing in front of your daughter”

Jihoon looks angrily between Hoshi and Yoona

“No more tiger print.”

“What about cheetah?”

Yoona loves swimming in the pool

she often convinces her father to throw pool parties for the members so they will come over and play with her

she practically lives in the pool so Jihoon had to install cameras in the backyard in case she slips past her sitter to go swimming

okay so how you met Jihoon

you were working as a nanny

you were in between households when you got a call from your friend (the nanny Jihoon usually hired)

she told you she had to go out of town to help with some family issues but the single dad she usually worked for desperately needed a sitter for the week.

you parked your car in the driveway of the very nice modern style house, completely in shock

“This is the right address right?” you mumbled double checking the text she sent you

usually, single parents that hired you lived in very small houses or apartments

not two story modern houses with a nice Tesla parked in the driveway

you hesitantly knocked on the door

a very handsome man, with wet dyed blonde hair opened the door with a tired smile

“Are you the nanny?”

there were happy screams coming from inside the house and splashes

“Um...yes! I’m Y/n. F/n said you needed me-”

“Yes, thank goodness. Come in. She’s in the back.”

the man quickly ushered you inside and out to the backyard

“I’m Jihoon by the way. Hoshi is playing with Yoona in the pool.”

“Oh! How long have you two been together?”

he stopped in his tracks looking at you with wide eyes and nervous laugh

Jihoon looked you up and down while running a hand through his damp hair

“OH NO! I’m not- We aren’t- ....Hoshi is just...We are in the same band. He is supposed to be working with me in the studio with me this week, but I can’t leave Yoona alone all day.”

you nodded and followed him through the nice kitchen and out to the pool

you saw the cutest little girl playing with another man with jet black hair

“Daddy!”

the little girl that looked very much like the man who answered the door swam to the edge of the pool and reached for him.

jihoon pulled up the three year old and introduced the two of you

you hit it off and you were spending every minute with Yoona

every day of the week was spent at Jihoon’s home taking care of Yoona while he worked in the home studio or at the company

Jihoon always made sure to come home early enough or take a break long enough to tuck Yoona in when it was time for bed

After knowing Jihoon for two weeks you had gotten pretty close and you were certain about one thing

He was a workaholic

“Take a break Jihoon.”

He shrugged at your words as you closed the door to Yoona’s room.

“I’m fine.”

“Jihoon, take a break. Your deadline isn’t until this weekend and Hoshi said that the album is practically finished already.”

You pushed him into the kitchen and forced him to sit down on a stool.

the two of you talked over a bottle of wine Jihoon had stashed away after his housewarming party

you still found it insane that he already owned this entire house and he was only 23

after that night talking with Jihoon after Yoona had gone to bed was a nightly occurrence

Eventually Jihoon found himself enjoying your company in ways that he shouldn’t when he was actively paying you to take care of his daughter.

He just fell in love with how caring you were

he loved how happy you made him

However he knew he couldn’t make a move if he was still hiring you

“Y/n you’re fired.”

You looked wide eyes at Jihoon before eyeing Yoona in your lap

She was giving her father a confused look too.

“What do you mean? Did I do something wrong?”

“No, no, no. Look, I really really like you. And it’s really not appropriate for me to have a crush on someone I’m employing.”

Suddenly being fired wasn’t so bad.

You told Yoona to go play in her room, so you could talk to her dad alone.

“Yeah, I guess sleeping with my boss would be pretty bad.”

Jihoon blushed at your words but smiled and wrapped you in his arms.

He pressed his lips against yours hand cupping your cheek

“Oh, you are so fired.” He whispered with a smile against your lips

The two of you began dating after he fired you

A new nanny was hired but they only last a few months

Jihoon insisted you move in with him and Yoona since you spent most nights there anyway

You took care fo Yoona like your own daughter which allowed Jihoon to work more outside the house

He would come home to dinner made hot and just for him, his daughter asleep or waiting for him in the living room.

Your relationship was kept a secret for a long time because Jihoon was really ready to share you with the whole yet

he wanted you all to himself....occasionally sharing you with his little girl

when your relationship did come out, he wanted to make sure that you weren’t planning on leaving him any time soon.

he would think long and hard about it

one night the two of you were just sitting on the couch one night, Yoona asleep on your lap and watching a random cartoon when Jihoon stood up all of a sudden and returned from the kitchen with a bottle of champagne and two glasses

“What are you doing?”

He shushed you pointing to his sleeping daughter in your arms. He popped the bottle and poured two glasses

Jihoon then got down on one knee and took your hands in his

“Y/n will you marry me? I want you part of my family, our family. I’m in love with you more than you will ever know and I know Yoona loves you just as much as I do. So, what do you say? It’ll be kind of awkward if you say no, because....I already opened the champagne.”

You laughed and pulled him in for a kiss “Yes”

Jihoon felt sure in your relationship and felt better about letting the world know

He was happy with his family and he didn’t care what the world though

harries twins → the harries twins (jack & finn) are basically the reason i started spending a lot of time on youtube, they were funny and pretty and they just had good videos in general, so for almost two years i’d watch their content regularly

choi minho → my first steps into kpop happened bc i was watching videos on youtube (most probably the harries twins) and suddenly i saw the sherlock mv in my recommended videos so i clicked on it and then 14-year-old me proceeded to fall for minho like an idiot

brooks twins → still youtubers, the brooks twins were 3/5 of the janoskians (jai & luke brooks, beau brooks, daniel sahyounie, & james yammouni), an australian youtube comedy group that was active from 2011-2018 though i was only around from 2012-2014 (when jai brooks was dating ariana grande)

jc caylen → surprise! another youtuber! jc caylen was part of o2l (our2ndlife) a youtube collaboration channel on which each of the 6 members posted videos on a certain day in the week (mondays with connor, tuesdays with ricky, wednesdays with sam, thursdays with jc, fridays with trevi (my 2nd favorite member bc she participated on the x factor), saturdays with ricardo, and then they had surprise sundays every week) and i remember how much joy jc & the others always brought me with their silly videos

misha collins → up next, you might know him as the gay angel that was sent to superhell after confessing his love to the homophobic hunter on supernatural, it’s misha collins! basically misha was a huge source of comfort for me, and i even went around calling myself emmisha for almost two full years (cringe)

henrik holm → he played even bech naesheim in skam and my crush on him reached that level of ridiculousness where i actually tried my hand at learning norwegian (i can only remember how to introduce myself and some curse words i would make a great first impression on him)

MEN 2016 – 2021

min yoongi → okay so my baby steps into kpop happened through shinee’s sherlock, but i only got really invested when yoongi dropped agust d 1 because Holy Fuck y’know??

kim namjoon → oh man i remember thinking namjoon was cute and a very good leader and then BAM he dressed like THAT at the 2016 mma’s and i fell in love. hard

kim seokjin → OH BOY LET ME TELL U i liked seokjin from the very beginning (i got to know bts in late 2014) and i always liked seeing him perform and be himself and god once i realized i had a crush on him it just hit me like a mf truck, and he’s still one of my favorite people to this day

jung hoseok → god fake love era hoseok really hits different.... also yes i know i have all of bts’ hyung line on my list BUT bts was a really big part of my life for almost 6 years soooo honestly they deserve it i still think they’re great guys

choi san → when ateez made their debut in 2018 i immediately fell in love with san, he was such an amazing dancer and he captivated me right from the very beginning, to this day he’s still my bias in ateez uwu

xiao zhan → AND THEN, OCTOBER OF 2019 HAPPENS AND I WATCH CQL AND... i fall in love with xiao zhan, something i’d never expected would happen bc when i watched cql for the first time i wasn’t as invested in the story, but i really really really liked xiao zhan and one thing led to another and now here i am as a xfx

wang yibo → the thing is, i’ve known yibo since eoeo except i didn’t know cql yibo was uniq yibo (bc i’d forgotten his name) and when i looked it up i can tell you my jaw dropped to the floor bc holy shit????? also he is very silly and i love him loads ok

lee minho → ah, the man who has been my skz bias since 2018, not only is minho my bias i also kin him (there’s a lot of aspects of myself that i see in minho and vice versa) and he’s very comforting to me

bang chan → honestly, it was only a matter of time before i’d fall for bang chan, i knew the moment i got into skz again that i’d start biasing him and, well, here i am, double biasing chan & minho

xuan lu → her portrayal of jiang yanli was SO ON POINT and she’s just such a kindhearted wonderful person wow i want her hand in marriage

lee yoobin → god i’ve known dreamcatcher from back when they were still called minx and ever since i’ve always looked at dami that bit more than the rest, i was also able to see dreamcatcher live in october of 2019 and the whole experience was just so amazing !!

Moonlit Throne historical clarifications/references

i want to accurately represent the history from the joseon era, but sometimes for the sake of story/ease of accessibility, things had to be minorly changed. the following is a list of creative choices/changes i make in the writing of Moonlit Throne, as well as further information about the history/culture that i’ve found through my own research 💓 i hope this can also provide some more context for those interested. this list is to be updated as the series progresses so i always recommend you read the latest drabble before checking for more info here for risk of spoilers. please correct me if i get any info wrong!!

king gwanghae - as mentioned in the line “gwanghae flow” & in the rest of the MV, Daechwita was inspired by this historical king & the movie about him. Moonlit Throne is not inspired by any king. any event that is similar is purely coincidental!

topknot - various sources state that only married men were allowed to wear their hair up, though this is often not the case in popular korean media. even though Yoongi is unmarried, i chose to pay homage to the daechwita MV & give him a topknot throughout the series. *** same goes for the blonde hair color!

months - traditionally, they followed the lunar calendar in the Joseon era. but i thought that that would be a bit difficult to explain for modern audiences so i am choosing to use the months/modern equivalents of dates.

yoongi’s scar - i am aware that Scarlet Heart Ryeo depicts the facial scar as a reason that someone could not become king. i haven’t found much on this in the way of historical sources, so it’s not a factor in my series!

uinyeo - aka. reader’s mom, and eventually reader herself. at the time, it was believed that women could not be treated by male doctors due to the shame of showing a man their body, even in a medical context. this position was generally occupied by a woman that was ranked below middle-class & commoner (think merchants/fishermen/etc.) as it was not a very desireable role. reader’s mom, Eun-a, is the head uinyeo, which is why she is called “su-uinyeo-nim” by others.

***i haven’t found any information that says men couldn’t be treated by women due to the Confucius beliefs, so at least in this story, reader helps out the male physicians from time to time.

eunuch - eunuchs were impotent or castrated men (had all or part of their genitals removed) who worked within the palace walls, serving and attending the royal family. they had their own hierarchy, like head eunuch, etc. it was possible for eunuchs to marry & have families of their own.

***Eunuch Kim has a 🍆! it’s just his testicles that were removed.

yoongi’s name - technically kings use temple names that end in jo or jong instead of their given names, but i’m keeping it as Yoongi!!

age - it’s revealed in the march 1858 drabble that Yoongi is officially turning 10 years old that year, but this is in Korean age. his birth year is 1849, which would make him 9 years old in age as we know it internationally. Korean tradition dictates that people age up at the start of the new year (Jan 1), not on their actual birthday. traditionally, they also add an extra year as they consider the baby 1 year old at birth, not 0 years old. to do the math, reader is two years older than him, which would make her born in 1847 & turning 12 that year!

*** the average life expectancy around that time was ~35-40, so their understanding of a teenager would be very different than ours, at least in terms of maturity. thus, even though the main characters are relatively young by today’s standards, i’ve written them to come off as older. UPDATED INFO: it seems court ladies could live up to rather elderly ages, even up to 70, so i’m not sure if the earlier statistic was just mainly for men.

birthdays - i couldn’t find any information about whether they celebrated the actual day of birth as well back then, only about 100 day milestones, etc. but it is part of Korean culture to celebrate the birthday in modern times, so i kept it in.

jeonha - similar to mama, this is how you refer to the king as an equivalent to “Your Majesty”. wangseja-jeonha is the full title for the crown prince. usually people just call him seja-jeonha.

women’s rights - how much freedom you have kind of depends on what rank you are. most of the upper court/noble ladies (yangban) are born & raised within the palace. they were very, very rarely allowed to leave (& if they were married off, then they would have to leave with like guards/people with them). it’s unfortunate but they were treated like property, passed off from father -> husband. from what i can gather, the lower ranked women (like the uinyeo) had a bit more liberty about going into town (or at least ive seen in media), mostly bc no one cared about them.... sad truth but truth nonetheless.

king’s authority - even though the king is the ruler of the entire land, he doesn’t have absolute authority over everything. generally kings in the joseon era had to listen to the advice of the court officials if they thought he was making the wrong choice.

Minister Choi’s execution - so actually there were several types of executions for people of different ranks. someone of Minister Choi’s status likely would have been given a less gruesome death via. poison (sasa or 사사). but i’m keeping it as a beheading to pay homage to the daechwita MV!

***i also came across an article that said only royal blood could be spilled on the palace grounds so i’m not 100% sure where the public execution square was located, only that there was one & it was separate from the palace. also a lot of dramas seem to ignore this rule, so i’m not sure.

perfume - this existed back then! along with cosmetics. they were a luxury item for mostly the upper class, but they definitely existed.

Queen Jeonghui’s birthday - fun fact! i borrowed this real life queen’s name first, for drabble 3. then i found out, it just so happens that her real birthday falls in November as well. it was a total coincidence haha.

OC’s outfit/hairstyle - this is what she would have worn!

palace - the layout of the series setting is loosely based off Gyeongbokgung Palace! if you look at the map, i’ve set the private gardens at #24 (though the position of the island is different than how it looks in the map. it’s instead from the right side going towards the left), Yoongi’s private residence is #25. reader is moved into #23. #26-28 are libraries, which includes the crown prince’s private library.

*** also the palace is much bigger than you might imagine so to get anywhere takes some time & a bit of walking!

jipgyeongdang (집경당) - #22 on the map. along with #23 (below), were traditionally houses for concubines & palace maids before Yoongi moved them.

hamhwadang (함화당) - #23 on the map. where reader lives post December 1868.

sanggung - the highest rank available for women who served the palace/royal family. a woman could become a “favored sanggung” if she slept with the king, but not a proper concubine. normally from the “commoner” class.

sangmin - “commoner” class. made up about 80% of joseon’s people. were the farmers, fishermen, laborers, etc. these were the people that paid taxes and were ruled over by the nobles!

cheonmin - the rank below commoner, described in English as “vulgar commoner.” the upper classes considered these people “unclean.” among their numbers were butchers, sex workers, performers, shoemakers, and yes, uinyeo. they were normally given little to no respect at all within society.

concubine - women that had the honor of sleeping with the king. concubines had their own ranks within them as the king usually had many (think around a dozen). more info.

town - from what i can gather, directly outside of the palace is a small town. if you think of the Daechwita MV, it’s like the town that Yoongi walks through when he has black hair. this is where mostly people of the middle/lower class, like sangmin & those below that, live.

chuseok - Korean harvest festival! it means “autumn evening with the brightest moon”. it’s usually celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth month in the lunar calendar. that would put it anywhere around sept 9-oct 2 in our modern calendar depending on the year!

yangban - these are the “ruling class” or gentry of the joseon era. generally means their families own land, are somewhat (or very) wealthy, and they are well-educated. (think Mr. Darcy, for a British equivalent)

why does no one recognize the prince in town? - with a lack of access to pictures & internet, it was common for the normal citizens of the country to not know what their monarchs looked like. generally to identify people & rank, they had to rely on appearance. gold was a color only reserved for royalty, so only the king & his sons could wear the royal robes with gold embroidery. once Yoongi takes off those robes, it’d be hard to identify him from among regular yangban!

jeon - these are bits of shrimp/vegetables/fish/other small things that are deep fried in egg batter!

nokdujeon - this is like a small, savory pancake made with, you guessed it, mung beans!

Chun-ja calling Eunuch Kim “Kim-nim” - look. i’ll be straight with you i have no idea how a commoner would refer to a eunuch. i’m flip-flopping between his title (which i also cannot figure out bc idk which of the 18 political ranks he would be, but not for lack of trying y’all T_T) & his name with the respectful -nim. so just to be safe, i’m going with it.

***i also am not 100% on this, but i believe Eunuchs rank higher than commoners because they work in the palace? which is why Eunuch Kim uses “-ssi” for her.

hangul & hanja - so the Korean alphabet as we know it is called hangul, and it was invented in 1443. in the past, they used to use hanja, Chinese characters, to write documents.

female literacy rate - as related to above, it was rare for women to be able to read/write even up until the late 19th century. they weren’t allowed to learn hanja at all & only around 4% could learn hangul. of those 4%, it was mostly noble women, who received good education to be better wives.

***books were then thus read aloud by those literate to crowds, so people could still enjoy stories.

face - the concept of “face” is very much rooted in Asian culture. in Korea, it’s called chemyon, & is basically related to your reputation + how others see you. you can lose, build, or gain face through your actions or what rumors of you spread. for example, if parents have children with bad grades, they + the child lose face. people should strive to do things to build their family’s honor & face up. i’ve experienced firsthand how people go to sometimes extreme lengths to “save face” as the term goes. basically, if you’re going to do something shameful, it’s better to do it where no one can see. (this concept isn’t going to have a huge influence in the series, at least not so far & i use it rather lightheartedly in October 1865 but i just thought that it’s really interesting + important to know about Asian culture!)

French expedition to Korea (Byeong-in yangyo) - in October 1866, the second French empire tried to invade Korea (or Joseon as it was called at the time) because the king at the time executed seven French missionaries. after several months of fighting, Korea won with only four soldiers killed & 3 wounded (compared to France: 3 killed, 35 wounded). Joseon was able to stay relatively isolated from all the other countries, continuing the practice of isolationism.

gossip - i couldn’t find any laws prohibiting people from talking about court going-ons/battles, though i would assume that it’s punishable if you’re doing it to talk badly about the king. but even if there were laws in place, word gets around, as word tends to do. therefore, i’ve given Eunuch Kim a bit more freedom in his letters.

royal funerals - it could actually take up to 5 months for the coffin to begin its journey to the resting tomb, but i’ve expedited the timeline for plot purposes!

coronations - these actually weren’t super common in Korea or Asia in general, but it did happen once in the 1700s for King Yeongjo. i’m using that as inspiration for Yoongi’s crowning.

*** also i couldn’t find info on the exact wording that King Yeongjo used when he announced his succession to his deceased brother’s body so... i took some creative license there.

gama - how yangban & up women travelled, carried by their servants. here’s a visual!

the royal engagement - actually, Beom-su would not have lived within the palace walls. she would have lived in a detached palace that was further away from the main palace, and there would be a whole procession where the king goes to her during their wedding rites. however, i’ve seen several dramas have the bride-to-be hang around a lot, which seems to be true because she would have had to learn the customs of the palace, so i’m not sure how much she would have been around realistically. i’ve just chosen not to address it, like the dramas do.

Beom-su’s name - i chose this name for her because of one of the possible hanja for beom: “犯”, which i would pair with the hanja “秀” for su. her name would basically mean excellent invasion, which i thought was a bit cruel, slightly humorous, & overall fitting. it is normally a masculine name though!

why are Beom-su’s father’s actions such a scandal? - so all the unmarried women living/working in the palace were considered the king’s property. he could sleep with them if he wanted to, but essentially they belonged to him. by laying hands on the maid, the minister committed a double sin because he not only was he assaulting someone, but he was infringing upon the king’s territory.

civil service exam (gwageo) - this is an exam issued every 3 years that any man, commoner rank & above, could take in order to enter into civil service. it’s what Jimin takes to enter into the court! i’m not sure what month these were held or if it was just at the king’s discretion (could not find much info)

more on eunuch kim & the re-marriage process

royal tombs - these were often quite far away from the actual palace but looking on maps, i found that there were a few tombs rather close to the palace that people could have conceivably travelled to within a day, over several long hours on horseback!

on natural disasters - yes, in history, natural disasters like floods/earthquakes/eclipses were said to be the king’s fault because he wasn’t a good enough ruler! things like this could seriously derail the people’s trust in the king and was a big cause of concern.

on Queen Jeonghui being in court meetings - i couldn’t find actual evidence that said the queen couldn’t be at these daily meetings between officials. in fact, the real life Empress Myeongseong in the ~1870s was pretty involved in politics and was quite interested in matters of law, etc. so, i’ve decided to allow Jeonghui to be present and address the ministers alongside Yoongi!

Chunaengjeon - i kind of explain more about this already in the drabble itself but if you’re curious, it’s the only solo court dance in the Joseon era and the highlight of the dance is a moment where the dancer mimics a bird perched on a flower and smiles :’) i thought it was fitting for these two. here’s a video of a performance that i used as reference!

janae - there were quite a few different terms for couples to call each other during this time. “janae” was meant to represent wife and is kind of their equivalent to our... “honey”? it was mostly used among the commoners/lower classes to convey affection and closeness. (aka eunuch kim continues to be the cutest)

on adopting a child as a eunuch - the readings i found say that eunuch kim’s children must be eunuchs themselves if he adopts them directly, but they don’t mention anything about this particular case of a eunuch marrying a widow, aka the child is not directly adopted by Eunuch Kim himself. so Han-jae will not be a eunuch when he grows up!

american invasion of korea (shinmiyangyo) - this is a true historical event, as i’ve mentioned in my author’s note for “June 1871.” Americans repeatedly violated Korean soveriegnty and invaded their land, resulting in many, many deaths for the Korean side. they were hoping this destruction would force Korea to accept the trade treaty. Korea did not, and eventually were able to chase the Americans out of their land a month later. the wikipedia page goes into greater detail if you’re interested, and is a quick overview of the situation.

seong-min’s living situation - as i’ve mentioned earlier with the whole Beom-su situation, i’ve chosen to not use the detached palace again for this engagement as dramas tend to do.

the wedding ceremony - similar to my reasoning about the detached palace, i’ve chosen to focus on only a few parts of the marriage rites while only briefly mentioning the rest. why? well, while i would LOVE to explain all the details and intricacies of such an incredible process, i feel like that would take a lot away from the heart of the story and be distracting, especially at such a critical stage. so i’ve explained what i can, and given brief overviews where i am able. ofc i adjusted the parading ceremony because of the change of the detached palace custom. if you’d like an easy-to-read source on the whole process, please check out this link! basically the MLT chapter depicts a tweaked vers of steps 5 and 6. 1-3 happened behind the scenes, and i mentioned #4 in the “summer 1871″ drabble.

chungin - our equivalent of “white collar” workers, or the upper-middle class. this rank was made up of low-level bureaucrats, accountants, physicians, etc. some royal servants would also be part of this rank because they’re allowed to enter the palace. there is an exam (chapkwa) to become this rank!

conception dreams (taemong) - as uinyeo-nim explains in the drabble, these dreams were often seen as omens of impending pregnancy. depending on what you see in your dream, there are different interpretations. possible symbols are animals, fruits, elements of nature, children, and jewels. eg. if you dreamed of fruits, it was often considered to be a sign of having a baby girl.

other conception myths - i know from my own experience that Asians often have a lot of superstitions regarding conception and pregnancy and medical things in general. however, i couldn’t find any specific conception myths for the time period in question (most of my research only uncovered superstitions for after you’re already pregnant), so i’ve taken some creative license here, using the conception dreams and current beliefs as inspiration!

on Queen Jeonghui calling oc “dear” - since I prefer not to use Y/N, ___, etc. for reader’s name and just generally avoid mentioning it, it’s nearly impossible for me to convey the tone with which Queen Jeonghui would’ve been calling OC in this chapter. in Korean, she would be saying “[name]-yah/ah” depending on the ending syllable of the name. adding that suffix to the end of a name conveys closeness and intimacy between people. I’ve chosen to substitute it for “dear” to make things sound more natural in English. it’s not an exact match, but it’ll have to do!

LUV!BUG is the second mini album by the south korean girlgroup KANDYKRUSH. the album was released february 14, 2018 on their fourth anniversary. the album contained four songs including the title track “ love so sweet!! ” KANDYKRUSH promoted successfully for around seven weeks, also performing the second track “ playing house ” alongside their title track.

after four years of no content , kandykrush surprised the fandom by announcing their first comeback with five new members. they brought their all , the announcement itself caused a lot of buzz and positive feedback itself. the positive reinforcement did not stop at the announcement and continued onto the teasers and so on. this era brought out kandykrush‘s more upbeat lovesongs, similar to “ shy boy ” from their debut album. many fans were excited to see the upbeat and bright colors in their mvs. and many more were surprised how talented and young the new members were , the girlgroup showed a story of highschool love and how sweet it can be, bringing them in lots of younger fans. the group grew internationally and in korea among the youngest generations.

less than a day layer kandykrush got both a fandom wiki and a k-profiles profile!!!!!

they hit one million views/watchers on their first v-live as nine.

although they haven't had a comeback since love so sweet, they still have high popularity due to their loyal fanbase gained from devotion so sweet!! era.

jane and mang vlogged their experiences backstage, and it honestly was a hit !! they will occasionally do it now, too, since so many people adored it.

the side tracks were as equally loved as the title track was!!

they played it safe with the school themed outfits and occasionally changed it to fit shy boy’s concept.

each member got an equal amount of attention for the makeup and outfits !! and everyone had such pretty looks , it was very nice to see.

lots of pink purple and blues for the love so sweet stages !! plus black whites and greys for the playing house stages !!

taeran had dark brown hair , and it was normally styled up into a ponytail or pigtails.

yoori had a cocoa brown hair , that was parted in the middle with two strands that fell infront of her face. and the rest tucked behind her ears.

mao had cotton candy pink hair that was normally styled into a french braid or occasionally styled down into a middle part. to march her hair she was mostly styled in blue, white or purple so it wouldn’t clash too much.

byul had platinum blonde hair with bangs that were sweep a little to the side. her hair was down most of the promotional period.

jiae had ruby red hair that was curled towards the bottom and that was kept in two pigtails that set onto of her had.

bitna had two-toned shag during this promotion period. she normally kept it between black and white but during the last few weeks she dyed it back to fully black.

mimi had peach blonde hair with bangs that covered her eyebrows, it was normally kept down with the occasional performance where it would be put up into a ponytail.

jane had jet black hair, that went down to her hip. it was normally parted down the middle and was rarely put up when performing.

mang had white hair that was styled into a short bob, she normally had two buns that rested into of her head. and halfway during the promotion period she cut bangs.

Hahaja i LOVE hearing about Army origin stories. Its so interesting to know how different everyones story is, it really shows how diverse both bts and army are. Striking so many lives all over the world in such a different way.

So my origin story was back in 2017 i watched the not today mv premiere with a friend who was an army and remembered thinking wow these guys dance cool and i thought the little rapper who started off looked good. But i wasn't really into them then just listened to them from time to time. Fast forward to 2019 march a few days after Yoongis birthday and i was visiting london with that same army friend, on the bus we kept talking about them and i suddenly got interested. So i went home and started looking for their videos on youtube and i came across their UN talk and their american interviews and thought hey the guy who speaks english seems pretty smart and cool. So for a few days Namjoon was my bias. Then i remembered my friend mentioning the rap line each have their own mixtapes and ive always liked artists who write and produce their own music, they're a rarity, especially in kpop, so i searched for them on youtube starting with Namjoons, i felt his songs were ok, though totally not what i expected a rap mixtape to sound like (in this case i was listening to mono)

Then i stumbled upon yoongis Agust D and remembered hey this is the cute quiet guy who started off Not Today. I remembered watching the lyric video of The Last and it really blew my mind. I could feel his pain from his lyrics, so loud and clearly, when he rapped about sleeping in the bathroom out of guilt and anxiety i could see it in my minds eye and in that moment i just wanted to make him happy, make all his dreams come true so he wouldn't have to feel that pain again, then the part when he said his mom told him during therapy that she feels like he doesn't know her own son and he answered even i dont know myself how can you know me? I felt that because at that time i was feeling really lost too.

Then i watched fancam of him performing First Love during the Wings Tour, the one with the blonde hair and the black sparkly jacket and i was floored. How could someone feel so strongly so passionately about their art? The part when his piano told him yes kid you can do it, i will never ever forget the awe and admiration he evoked in me in that one single performance. From then onwards lightning struck and i had eyes for Yoongi and Yoongi only and until now that remains the main reason yoongi inspires me so much. Because i want to feel that passion too, that undying love for my craft, it's really a gift to find your life's passion and be able to build a career around that.

Of course his cutthroat lyrics and out of this world stage charisma and off stage overall cute and soft personality solidified my love for him too. I guess it's fate that the first member i noticed is Yoongi and he ended up being my bias.

Hahah sorry for the long ass ask i was just so excited to read about everyone's origin stories and excited to share mine too =)

I've loved reading everyone's story, we may share a few factors but our stories are unique and i love that so much! yes the UN speech was mindblowing and it was really early on when i became a fan so i was just absorbing everything and i was like wow this isn't just kpop this is so much more. I'm glad we can see that side of Yoongi, and a lot of us can relate to his lyrics. like all their styles are different and just being drawn to them is amazing and being able to relate and be inspired by them. and then aside from being cutthroat he's also really sweet and soft and he has so much patience and ah i just love him so much! Thank you for sharing! There's no need to apologize for it being long, I enjoyed learning about you and you story!

ngl I’m kinda sad bc a lot of y’all don’t like the song ;-; but I can’t do anything about it since it’s your opinion so

but I hope that people know the difference between hating and giving criticism saying the song sucks and that it’s trash music is straight up music

I can get why people are disappointed with the song since everyone wanted almost the same thing, “jennie getting a rap part”, “jisoo saying blackpink in your area” and a high note from rosé

personally I really like the song, to me it’s not the same as dddd and ktl tbh I think it’s different

plus I kinda expected it to be like that bc their songs usually follow that yg style ya know the only songs I say that don’t follow that stereotypical yg style is “love scenario”, “stay” and AKMU’s songs

i mean if you compare the song with other yg artists song, they all have the same vibe to it because of the “yg style” we always say

the song also gives me nct and skz vibes too, like specifically “punch” and “side effects” bc of the heavy edm and also bc their songs has been called noise before dhshd

but enough of that

I really like how the song starts calmly in the beginning and then it starts to be more aggressive

also I like the fact that each of the girls get a chance to say “how you like that”

March 30th 2020 JYP Ent released “SOLAR volume 2” Inter-Stellar's 4th mini album. The mini album came in 3 versions : ot6 or either sub-units. The girls promoted PICKY PICKY as their title track and U DON'T KNOW ME as their special stage . The group also had special stages for the sub-unit songs. The 'INTER' sub-unit consisted of Nova, Kelsi and Mimi who performed LIAR. Whilst the 'STELLAR' sub-unit consisted of Haeun, Cleo and Taeji who's song was CARPOOL. The comeback was highly anticipated as the group received Rookie of The Year 4 times during awards season and their previous comeback was hugely successful. Fans loved the introduction of sub-units and how each sub-unit had their own styling and sound. The girls each played a huge part in production of their sub-unit projects.

Ninety One – Men Emes

Okaaaay, people, here comes a long-awaited comeback from Ninety One that screamed, no, shouted so much culturally significant meta at me I could barely handle it. Ironically, when I was watching reactions to this MV, most people were so bloody oblivious to anything that was happening on the screen that I was painfully restraining myself not to slam my head on the table, but then remembered "oh, right, that's why I'm running this blog in the first place."

Okay, let's start with the video, shall we?

The opening scene is obviously with Alem because if 91's song doesn't start with Alem there's something definitely wrong with it.

Anyway, we have Alem looking like a mo-fo mafia boss, a Kazakh Don, if you like, in an office that's practically littered with KZ references. First, your eyes might catch those weird looking symbols on the desk, which are actually Orkhon-Yenisei runes - a script of Old Turkic tribes aka one of the direct ancestors of Kazakhs - that I was going to talk about for ages, but didn't have a good excuse to. So thank you Ninety One for bringing that up, I can unleash my inner linguistics nerd upon people regarding the subject in a separate post. The runes are actually read from right-to-left (because that's how it works) as "l" and "r", although I'm not sure of their implied meaning here. My theory that means just that: "left" and "right", for whatever deep reason.

So, while you're admiring Alem's outfit and hairstyle as he's showing off his results of perfecting The Stare™ (I had a theory his stares are so intent because his contact lenses keep drying up and it's his attempts not to blink much when cameras are on), you notice not only that Samsung is the main sponsor of this production (is it surprising?), but also that there's a picture of random people on the background, and a funny-looking statue next to the window. Except for that is not a picture of random people, that is actually a photo of the leaders of the Kazakh national movement/autonomy against Communists in the 1910s - Alash Orda, which I'm probably going to elaborate on in another post. For now, I'll just say that these were the writers, poets, social and political activists, the Kazakh Intelligentsia™, who were later prosecuted and repressed by the Soviet regime. Very important addition to the set if you ask me, and very deliberately chosen.

As for the funny-looking statue, that is a miniature "Balbal" of Kültegin or Kül Tigin, who was the General of the Second Turkic Khanate of the same Old Turkic people who used to write in the aforementioned Orkhon-Yenisei runic script. We can talk about it later on, for now, I can only say that 10 seconds into the video and my inner history nerd was screaming very much delightedly at these references. Didn't expect that much meta in such a short amount of time, eh? And we didn't even mention how cigars are allowed now, along with the whiskey-looking tea in a tumbler.

Anyway, then we are abruptly cut to AZ and, shortly after, ZAQ with an eagle. And no, it's not just a "lol, look, a bird", that's the Golden Eagle, a species that was trained and used for eagle hunting by the Kazakh nomads for centuries. Which is why we have it on our flag too. Btw, extra kudos to ZAQ for delivering his lines while having an eagle on his arm without its hood. I would have been more than slightly concerned if I were him.

If you don't know much about that aspect of nomadic life in Central Asia, I recommend watching the critically acclaimed documentary film The Eagle Huntress about Aisholpan - a 13 y.o. Kazakh girl from Mongolia being the first female mastering the art. FYI, it is narrated by Daisey Ridley aka Rey from Star Wars. Watch it.

The scene is black and white, and AZ and ZAQ are wearing suits which look very agreeable.

Then, we have the bridge that is delivered by very blond Bala, which isn't the best look on him in my opinion, but he's wearing a suit too, which is always a good idea. Bala, you must know, has perfected his camera acting and now successfully flirting with it without so much as breaking a sweat. Good job Juz, you know what you're doing.

Now, when we're done sharing niceties, can we, please, focus on the background - which is, of course, all lofty and fiery - specifically, on those symbols carved on the wall? And what are they? Yes, you guessed right: the Orkhon-Yenisei runes, yay. FYI, it says "QAZAQ", in its very palindromic fashion - the meaning here, I assume, is quite self-explanatory.

In one of the cuts we see that Bala is actually there with a dog. And, guess what, it's not just a dog, it's actually a Tazy - the Kazakh national hunting breed, of which, quite frankly, I did not know anything before researching for this MV. See, even I'm being educated here, I feel so enlightened.

After that, we have the chorus, and all five of them are first standing and then walking like a bloody band of gangsters, all suited and effortlessly cool, as if towards an important tét-a-tét with a competing band. My immediate association was Crows: Zero (I'm sure, my fellow Japanese weeboos get what I mean) - lots of shonen swag and badassery. I approve.

In the meanwhile, Bala is showing off his moves, again, very at ease, chill and relaxed.

Chorus moves to the second part of the song with another rap verse from ZAQ. Do you remember that set in the previous black-and-white scene with the rappers? This one is that same set i.e. a carcass and insides of a Yurt - a traditional nomadic portable house used by Kazakhs for centuries. We see ZAQ sitting in what looks like a Khan's throne with battle spears and fur skins of wild animals. And no, nobody is trying to offend animal rights activists and humanists, just trying to showcase the culture here, alright? As you've noticed hunting has always had cultural significance for Kazakhs, and, well, it's survival in the bloody Eurasian steppes we're talking about here, with windy -50°C in the winters you've got to wear something to protect from freezing over, you know.

ZAQ delivers his lines in his usual very efficient fashion, and we cut to Ace walking over to the race track, very stylishly so that it might as well be a car commercial, to a parked Ford Mustang (and, yay, we've got a budget for a nice car now!) that's drifting its tires out in the shots in-between. Did I mention Ace's wearing a suit? I'm telling you, a car commercial.

I have a feeling that a Mustang was chosen deliberately, a subtle shoutout to horses as another culturally significant symbol and animal for Kazakhs. They could've gone for a Ferrari for the sheer visual effect of it, but I suppose Samsung is generous, but not that much.

And then, we have a chorus with a dance break. Interestingly, despite the numerous cuts and camera angles, and even blinding background lights that obscure the view, I did not mind how the dance was shot. The choreography itself is nothing short of cool: very laid-back, effortless, with easy open moves and a masterfully feigned nonchalance. I know I'm using cool and effortless a lot, but what can I do, they are the keywords for this MV. I like those claps btw, remind me of hilarious dances in Kazakh weddings lol. Very ironic. In either case, my compliments to Asiya for her work, bravo.

While you're still getting over the choreography, you're introduced to AZ casually lying among many ladies in night gowns, and yes, we now are allowing this too along with cigars and whiskey-looking teas in tumblers. Don't get me wrong, AZ is wearing a modest pair of black silk shirt with black trousers (can't say the same about his wild tricoloured mess of hair), and evidently still can't take his hands off his nose (he does keep rubbing it), but the whole scene, the wide shot of it, looks so unapologetically hedonistic that it might as well be a Gucci Guilty commercial. Well, Ninety One definitely went all Gucci in this MV, so associations are unsurprising. Scrumptious.

The only cultural reference we've got here is the neon rune "r" on the background when AZ is sitting up.

Then, it goes back to the chorus with the guys standing with more fire in the background. There are other cuts from previous scene including the one with Alem throwing off 10000 Tenge bills with that photo on the back while staring into the camera.

Conclusion? A+ to the production team, especially set designers, Bibotta for the styling, and Yerbolat for knowing what looks good and what doesn't.

All and all, it was a good MV, a good break from artificially colourful secluded studio sets.

Now let's move to the music.

The song starts with, what I thought, those weird sounds from some Japanese instruments, but upon hearing the chorus my immediate reaction was "wait, is it a hip-hop beat from the early 2000s?"

Honestly, it isn't a very pop song. It screams hip-hop, and I dare say, this song was meant to be performed by the rappers only, which was somewhat proven true given that AZ and ZAQ were both writers and composers of Men Emes. Its hip-hop nature shows even in the structure: there are no vocal verses, only a bridge and a chorus performed by the vocalists, and everything else is just rap. And oh my, that's some rap, indeed.

First, can we just address, that once again the rappers of 91 managed to sneak up another controversial line bordering with vulgarity? I am talking about the first two lines of AZ's rap here, those who don't know what I am talking about, ask me about it later. The audacity though, huh. In either case, that got an incredulous chuckle out of me upon realisation. Congratulations, boys, mischief's managed.

AZ was his extravagant self in general, wouldn't say he brought a lot of literary value in this track, to be honest. Well, especially compared to ZAQ (and it is always difficult to compete with ZAQ's lyrics), who's just unleashed the study of "how many words and rhymes with "u" and "ü" sounds I can shove into one rap verse while making it sound intelligible and meaningful." And did so successfully, I must say. Personally was always astonished how masterfully he manages to use the vowel harmony - one of the linguistic traits of the Kazakh language - weaving syllables to the whole other level of wordplay. Lyrically, all cultural references in the MV seem justified, given how ZAQ is lamenting over how "his nation is moving with a snail speed" and such. With this, he is brushing the socio-political problems in the country, it seems. And it is very promising, as in this country high profile artists don't risk doing that.

(Btw, a mention of Surtur was another delightful nod to my inner nerd who loves Norse Mythology, and a reference to Cthulhu was rather amusing. Lovecraft wouldn't've minded.)

I had many problems with voices in this track. For some reason, I couldn't recognise half of them. I only clearly heard Bala, Ace's voice became obvious only when he moved to an octave higher, and I didn't even realise it was Alem singing in the beginning. Was very shocked to know that it was ZAQ, not AZ, rapping with that higher voice in the second part before switching to his usual old school style. We're trying different things, I see, though I wouldn't mind them toning down their tuner game a bit. I know who's singing what now only thanks to the MV.

To sum up, it's a very different 91 song. Not that it's very astounding in its originality with blending different genres in one as you'd expect, but it's probably refreshing to hear something bold, audacious, yet simple, very hip-hopesque circa 2001 from them. It seems they're deliberately trying to diversify their audience throwing a track like that. Which isn't bad at all, I rather enjoyed it. (By the way, those drums in the bridge section sounded almost tribal. Just saying.)

Despite the MV and song screaming "WEALTH", "SWAG", "COOL" and "SUAVE", I do not actually think it was only about showing off. Well, of course, a part of the message was a la "look what I've got in the end, despite all your judgement" with "you're not me" and all that. However, I think it was also targeting and mocking the spoiled kids of corrupt government officials or just corrupt rich "bosses" in general who always act as if rules and law are not made for them. "Yeah, you're cool, but not the coolest, might be rich, but not the richest, and even good-looking but not really. Don't be so full of yourself, you're not the centre of the universe" kind of message. And that imagery of Alem as a mafia boss in his office is juxtaposed with all those cultural artifacts hinting on what is actually more important and valuable, especially with the Kazakh cultural leaders of the 20th century watching from the picture on the wall. And Alem throws those bills as if saying "yes, I'm doing that, but it's just money, so what." Even AZ looks somewhat lost and empty-eyed lying there among girls when he's not trying to convince you how envious you should be right now.

Probably it's me reading too much into this, I don't know, but the MV only amplified the feeling that you've got to read between the lines, it isn't all about bragging.

For now I'll give the MV 9 out of 10, and the song is a solid 7.

oh shit really? uhh idk if i can do that but... i mean i gotta say siyeon right? her voice *is* dreamcatcher to me. her voice defines their sound more than anything else, even more than their rock concept. like for real, her voice is more integral to the feel of a dreamcatcher song than the guitars or sort of dark vibe. well, her voice brings the dark vibe a lot of the time, honestly. after that i’d say jiu cause her voice is the total opposite, she has the voice you would least associate with a concept like this, but that serves to add a lot of range to their sound too. her voice is so vividly bright and cheerful... so, dreamcatcher’s dark concepts are defined by siyeon for me, and dreamcatcher’s lively personality and energy onstage and offstage are defined by jiu for me. those first lines of “wake up”? iconic, full of energy, aaaaaa i love her. after that i guess i’d say yoohyeon cause she’s the lead vocalist lol. and then... about the same for the rest. i dont have an order from then on. they’re one of the groups where i think it’s the easiest to tell which member is singing just from audio alone, all seven of them have distinct vocal characters. the only two that i sometimes mix up (again, just based on audio only) are sua and gahyeon. or dami when she sings lol

what do you mean? like in terms of types of songs? uhhh.. idk.. most of the stuff i would say to this is stuff that i have no doubt will actually come. i want more bangers like piri and what, i want more edm stuff like sleepwalking and silent night, but yeah i’m sure we’ll get that. i guess what i’ll say is... more songs with involvement from the members. either in terms of composition or even just lyrics. though i like the composers and lyricists they have a lot! i’ll also say if nothing else, then a song choreographed at least in part by the members would be amazing. idk if it’ll happen for a title track, but if sua choreographs one of their edm bsides or something, and they perform it live on music shows, fuck...

What would you say to each member if you didn't have to worry about a time limit?

each member individually??? that’s too time consuming woirjgeoiwrgew but i do have individual answers for all of them probably lol. especially yoohyeon, i wanna talk to her about languages. i’ll just say to all of them how much i appreciate them and how they arent boxed in by typical idol conventions, but they also arent boxed in as outside them either. like, they’re not an anti-kpop-group, they’re not the complete antithesis, they like being a kpop group and they like other kpop groups so they would never want to be that. i like how much fun they have, i like how close they are, i like how they treat their fans, i think if the fandom did something really awful or went too far i like to think they would feel comfortable letting us know. hopefully, anyway. more than most other kpop groups i’m aware of, it’s easy to find them in videos and vlives and stuff not being totally in idol-mode and just being people, and friends with their members. im not criticizing other groups, cause if i was in their position, i think i would have a hard time not being “on” when on camera, even if it’s just a vlive. maybe it’s because they’ve known each other for a lot longer than a lot of other current-gen groups, and they’re older than many of their current-gen peers too. they feel very earnest, they’re not trying to hide. im sure there are aspects to them that we dont know about and will never know about, and i hope that’s the case cause i hope they’re able to maintain some privacy in this job, but it’s not hard to tell when someone is being genuine and when someone isn’t, and i get a very genuine vibe from them a lot of the time. i’m glad they are who they are, they’re really influential and inspirational to me. i.... also might wanna mention their support for lgbt people, though i would want to talk to them about that in private because it’s personal for me and risky for them and i know how shitty that situation is, especially since i know that they care and would be a lot more vocal if they could be. and they’re one of the most vocal groups about it already! i just want to thank them.

With their lines supposedly mastered, came the time to show what they managed to learn last month. After going through the choreography of both of their songs, the boys continue with their practice until the following day.

With them in the room are both Jo Soonyang, their vocal coach, and Yoo Jaekyung, their dance coach. They exchange a few words with each other before turning their attention to the nine idols-to-be in front of them. “Well, good morning,” Jaekyung is the one to start. “You had to learn two choreographies last month, which you showed to me yesterday. I think it’s easy to say that it’s expected of Royal to have a better grasp on their vocals, but that’s no excuse to let your dance abilities fall short. You’re standing here to become idols—dancing idols.”

The woman stops talking for a moment to shake her head. “For how long have you been training here? Kangjoon?” She looks down at the sheets of paper she’s holding. “It’s been three years now? And that’s what you had to show me? What did you do during your dance lessons as a trainee? You’re a charming guy, so we tried giving you some center spots, but if you don’t get your act together it wouldn’t be the first time I had to rearrange a choreography before its release. And what’s worse is you’re not the only one I need to talk about.”

Jaekyung points at a name on the paper before reading it out. “Yoo Seonho. It’s been two years and a half, right? And you’re only better than Kangjoon. As a main vocalist, you’ll get a lot of lines, and if you can’t keep up with the dance how do you think that’ll turn out? During practice this month I’ll keep pushing you two, and if any of you complain you’ll be staying late. And Jung Jaehyun…” She looks at the last person she’s going to comment on. “If you’d like to join them it wouldn’t hurt you.”

The woman looks away and takes a step back. This is taken as code for Soonyang to speak. “Since you learned your pre-debut songs these last few months, we’ll move on to the next step of our preparation stage. You can come now.” She motions to one of the men standing by the wall and he starts moving forward. He’s very tall and chubby with a friendly expression. “This here is Kim Sohoon. From today on, he’ll be working as your manager. You’ll start having a bit more activities this month so he’ll have to keep an eye on all of you. Please, don’t abuse his patience.” Even with her request, the smile on the man’s face tells you he has a lot of patience to spare, unlike the coaches.

“Why don’t you hand them the lyrics?” With an excited “Yes!” Sohoon hands the file he had been holding to Baekhyun, who then needs to distribute them to the rest of the boys. “While you’re getting ready and set, we’ll also start work on the ‘go’ code. The thing you have in your hands is the lyrics of your debut song. It’ll work the same way as it did last time. If you learned anything from your time with us,” Soonyang takes a look at Park Jihoon, “then you should achieve a good result.”

This month, the boys of DE:CODE will have more than one mission to worry about. The first thing in line are the lines they received for their debut song, which is titled ‘Gorilla’. It’s rather different from their two other songs, especially ‘I’m Fine’, but the coaches tell they should leave a big impact from their debut, and this is the song to do it.

During this month, the members will be assigned multiple lines to learn and practice. None of these will officially be theirs and, by next month, the coaches will officially assign them. Their temporary lines for ‘Gorilla’ can be seen below:

On December 9th, they will be split into two groups of five and four by age to go to a hair salon (the same some of them went to for Dream Knight) and get their hairstyles ready for their pre-debut releases. They’ll be split by age, and the five youngest will go first early in the morning, and then the oldest later on.

처음에는 —

her confidence is at a moderate level considering that katie lee spoke of her high notes in a somewhat positive, at least it’s definitely not negative sort of way — she’ll take what she can get to be honest, especially from their ceo who seems particularly fond of tough love, almost ironic considering the symbol most associated with the company. but she does think people overlook how much love there is in the type of tough love katie lee shows them ( not to mention how traditional it is, if we’re being completely honest ), herself included

being told to turn smiles into smirks is a bit more alarming than she would’ve thought — mostly because she is a very smiley performer. it’s what she struggles most and one of the reasons she thinks she isn’t that good at dancing — she would personally prefer to delve into a more fanservice-like performance, smiling and making cute gestures

hearing of a comeback date is exciting to say the least — it feels like a second debut considering their double concept and though they’re not shooting out of town for the mv this time, at least from what she can tell, she looks forward to what the visual boards will be, how the scenes will turn out, why the 8th turns out to focus more on acting and mastering their expressions. her passion for acting comes out more this month and she’s even more thrilled by what awaits them for the mv filming

going into the recording for chase me, she holds onto the words of katie lee and believes in herself when it comes to each note, each take. even when it earns approval, she asks for another attempt, and another, and another. no matter how many she’s asked to do first, once she gets it, she still thinks she can do better

recording the next day for mayday and trust me go fairly similar but at a significantly faster pace and she’d wonder why if it wasn’t for the process everyone had gone through already with chase me. the tone is set, the vibe is different, the songs are night compared to what they’d recorded for their debut — her excitement starts to change little by little ; what do the aesthetics of the album look like, she realizes she hadn’t asked herself much about that yet, hadn’t made the connection that it could be horror themed

18일 —

by choice, she’d kept her hair black for so long, wanting to preserve its condition especially after the process of keeping it red years ago. light shades of brown were easier to maintain but black was certainly the easiest, the healthiest option to focus on a full recovery from bleach and color.

she didn’t think her hair would be kept black for every concept but part of her had hoped — this shade of brown does suit her rather well though and she’s pleased with it. curiosity strikes and she wonders who’ll have the first bolder color, what concept it would be for, whether or not they’d like it because she feels bad about haseul’s dislike for her short hair. even yeri, she thinks that the maknae looked so beautiful with blonde hair, it suits her personality, but it also suits the day side more. that thought leads her into an odd one and what she hopes wouldn’t happen — for all of them to go blonde at once. she might have to hold haseul’s hand in the salon if that happens.

from the moment she found out about it, she’s been itching to play. when she’s told she doesn’t have to, ariel refrains from laughing because she can’t wait to try. games like this are among her favorites, great for hands that are equally as restless as her mind.

in the downtime of filming, she would often reach for haseul’s or blue’s hand, feeling particularly affectionate ( and still restless ) despite playing the game

genuinely thinks it’s fun to be filming one of the commercials for the game and that it’s doubly as exciting to do so as eclipse, as one of the artists included in the game — that part is just surreal to her, their songs are part of a kt mobile game with their sunbaes like son dambi, chichi, and lc9

tl;dr — although she really likes the song and the styling for the mv, she worries about suiting the horror concept but finds comfort in the fact that it’ll attest to their versatility, their potential, and she’s particularly happy they’re all together like this so close to their 100th day

24 + 25일 —

seeing the storyboards for the mv surprises her; she’s happy to have another opportunity to show off some acting and it seems really fun, but the horror concept. she gets hung up on it again for a moment but it’s subtle, that kind of creepy that slowly gives you goosebumps, that gradually gives rise to the chill up your back, and, admittedly, she thinks that type of scary is the worst kind —

turns out that makes it very fun to film and she’s apologizing to the male actor after thanking him, telling him that she and the girls aren’t normally this scary, but also she hopes he’s not actually scared ( but if he is, she’d feel a little proud at the same time )

her fondness of acting comes back to her and she hopes they get to film more mvs like this where they get to act out storylines and follow a central theme / plot

love whisper had been cute and sweet but the story felt more so like a day with friends whereas this one is more mysterious

BTS Tag Questions

Thank you so much for tagging me, @agustminsuga - you’re so sweet and your answers were so interesting!

1. First BTS song? I think the first song I checked out by them was Dope but I actually didn’t get invested in their music until just after their BST comeback

2. First bias? Koo and Tae, idk they just stood out to me straight away I guess after I watched BST

3. Current bias? Hmm I’d say Taehyungie, he’s been my consistent bias since the start

4. Put the members in order of your bias list. Oh nooo! At some point every single member has been near the top because I just adore them all so much and I don’t want to say that I appreciate any of them less than they deserve :( I think Taetae and Yoongi on equal footing and then I can’t decide! Like Hoseok killed me with his vocals this comeback as well as Jin, and RM’s intro as well as some of his solo stuff hit me real hard ya know? JIminie is so sweet and makes me melt and him in the MV this comeback was probably my fave?? JK never lets me rest, it’s loving Koo hours every hour pretty much . . . I mean duality much? Basically I’m an indecisive fool :(((

5. Favourite BTS Song? Depends on how I’m feeling usually, but I have so much love for Paradise and Tomorrow! And Fake Love and Don’t Leave Me are just completely my style of music . . .

6. Favourite BTS song that is underrated? Hmm . . . I think even most older songs off their albums the majority of ARMYs would know and love so I can’t really nominate them :( I will say I love Path though!

I guess it’s more likely some ARMYs might not have checked solo stuff out yet - ‘Seoul’ by RM and ‘Always’ by RM too. Plus I think so many people didn’t pay as much attention to Trivia: Love as the others and that song hits so hard and I was so sad when I saw a video of people not singing along to it at the concert :( bby deserves all the cheers :((( like YESSSS “I live so I love!!!” yes you rounded my corners to make sarang 사랑 from saram 사람 !!!!

7. Favourite song of Wings? Love love love 21st Century Girl for some reason! Also like a year ago I suddenly loved Begin - mad props for the footwork in the performance too!

8. Favourite song of LY Her, Tear and Answer? Her: MIC Drop!

Tear: my fave album of theirs!!!! Loved so many!!! Paradise, Fake Love, Anpanman, Outro: Tear (Yoongi wrecked me) . . . all masterpieces, need I say any more?

9. Favourite music video? Spine Breaker. The only choice. Obviously.

Jokes aside, I’m gonna have to pull a Tae and put forward the queen that she is, Spring Day for this award. I also am obsessed with the Fake Love MV.

10. Favourite dancer? I think it depends what dance they are doing . . . they are all just especially suited for different styles and then they really shine individually in those. Like Jimin doing contemporary and ballet-style in SBS Gayo Daejeon 2016 is just my absolute fave and JK dancing to Begin and Save Your Goodbye hit me in the chest every time. And Hobi dances so sharp and clean I love it too and he always has so much energy.

11. Favourite vocalist? I’m gonna have to put Tae because his voice is just so unique and husky and comforting but Jimin in Paradise . . . oof. As an all rounder though, Koo’s vocals are outstanding - like his lil adlibs in this comeback Boy with Luv live perf??? I can’t leave Jinnie out either, his vocals in epiphany - bless.

12. Favourite rapper? Suga. Definitely. Ever since I discovered his Agust D mixtape, Yoongi is like second in my bias list and that says it all. He can spit fire and also coax words like he’s melting butter, smooth as.

13. Favourite hair colour for each member?

RM: I think his current hair (Boy With Luv) might have to be it . . . like he was killing it in Persona. All the love for Joon!

Jin: Pink!Jin is a match made in heaven, but also his blond hair in Fire was iconic.

Suga: Wow there’s too many to name, I think his blond Agust D hair as well as silver/grey and the blue for Love Yourself photos. I think he just radiates confidence any time he is blond and I’m here for it.

Hobi: anytime there is forehead haha. I love his brown hair and also his Tear hair. Hobi honestly pulls off so much and I can’t wait for him to shock us all with a new colour!

Jimbles: Pink from YNWA and current MOTS:Persona hair . . . I’m going through it

Taetae: As my bias of course I think he pulls off so many styles! His red fire era hair and his LY: Her/ DNA long blondish/grey hair is probably my fave. He just looks ethereal and lives up to CGV . . . like a man out of a manhwa (the hair at the Seo Taiji concert was unreal) His blond hair recently though . . . oof esp when it matched his outfit at the end of year awards plus that cute apple hair pic for LY photo book. . . and pink hair in LY:Tear photos gahhhh I love it all. You can tell from the rambles how much I love it aha

Kookie: He looked so good with black war of hormone hair! But red hair kook in Answer was a blessing. Basically the boy can get it whatever his hair colour aha

14. Favourite choreography?

I think Fake Love. But Danger and Fire too!

15. Favourite ships?

My first BTS one was Taekook and still prob my main. However Taegi just has a place in my heart. Yes to Tae making Yoongi soft and Hawaii was their time to shine! Yes to poems and long texts saying I love you! 95s soulmates Vmin are living their best life too honestly, I love their caring friendship so much, and JM really looks out for Tae and in return Tae appreciates Jimbles so much too :( honestly the closeness and brotherhood between all the members is part of the reason why I think so many people love BTS so much.
