endless list of otps: (remake) Callum and Rayla, The Dragon Prince
To have that kind of strength, it's not enough to love someone. You have to trust them to share the burdens you carry. [...] Callum, there's a... burden I'm carrying, and I've kept it a secret. And maybe that's part of what's made things weirder with us. But I think—I know that I trust you to help me carry this. If you're okay with that? Rayla. We've been through a lot together. And a lot has changed. Well, some things have changed—but not everything: I would do anything for you.
#rayllum#limiting this to only like 3 moments per season was. impossible and a crime#i'll have to do one of those Big picspams with them someday or something#maybe once all the seasons are out#tdpedit#the dragon prince#my edits#tdp#otp#otp: the most amazing person i've ever met#shout out to 'hey sad prince' 'we're lucky to have your as our friend. i do trust you'#all their dumb puns to each other esp in s3 and s5#'just push me-' 'Together <3'#the way this man jumping off a mountain for her was just scratching the surface of his insanity#all the hugs and helping each up and dumb shared smiles and bouncing ideas off each other <33#i love them So Much#enemies to friends to best friends And lovers to estranged besties to alterous as hell soulmates

Oh no I missed coffee night!!!!
I wanted to ask you about Hitchcock 😔 If you're willing to answer, which movies of his do you think are overrated and which do you think are actually good? He's my most watched director (because film school) but I only genuinely like a few of his films and always disagreed with my classmates about which ones were the best
I feel like I'm holding up a Daffy Duck style sign that says "shoot me" because Hitchcock is so well thought of by cinephiles versus me, the basic horny mod who watches movies with hot people in them. With that said, I remember Rope, Dial M for Murder, North by Northwest, and To Catch a Thief all left me a bit flat, because I felt like he was prioritizing pushing technical limits or creating extravagant images over deeper characters and relationships. I love a good technical limit-pushing, but it needs to serve the story! And sometimes I feel like he has an idea he wants to try or an image he wants to show and puts so much focus on developing it that characters' reality and interest kind of falls by the wayside—they become pawns navigating his situations, instead of interesting characters in their own right.
To be fair, this is more a characteristic of his later work than his early work—The Lady Vanishes is one of my favorite movies, and I remember Notorious and Spellbound both being enjoyable when I watched them a few years ago. Again, basic film watcher here. Don't show this post to the Criterion collection.
#putting down the shoot me sign and backing away v fast#i just want to be clear i do NOT have cinephile movie taste. i like crowd pleasers and musicals and very silly movies.#i would be shot out of a film school in a cartoon cannon the minute they mentioned the word ~images~#with that said i am right and i should say it :) he is not that good of a director when it comes to storytelling :)#rope should be SO GOOD and....it is not. technically interesting. but not good!#posts that will get me murdered fr#asks#edit for more thoughts in the tags because this grinds my gears. lady vanishes works for me because there's lots of spookiness and a few#“wow!” pushing the limit things for film nerds. (the train noise is continuous & that was a big thing at the time)#but the train noise being continuous is SMART because it adds to the rising tension and sense of containment. essential to the story!#whereas rope does a similar trick (continuous looking shot) but it doesn't tie into the story in any way.#does it matter that we never look away from the living room with the corpse? does it mean something this happens in real-ish time?#you can make an argument it does textually but emotionally i never felt like rope's 1 shot was tying into *this* specific story.#like i thought it was called rope because the literal rope emotionally ties into the metaphorical rope of a neverending shot! but no#the tension never builds for me in rope and i think it's because not enough focus was spent on its characters or making sure the shot#echoed & or developed a point being made onscreen. you could make rope w/conventional cuts and edits and i dont think you would#emotionally end up with a significantly different movie. (it doesnt help that there are obvious seams in the shot at random places.)#all in all sometimes it feels like hitch is making a movie for people who understand what trick he's showing off#versus a movie for basic bitches like me who just want to hang out with some hot strange people for two hours#anyway. i feel like i have lost all my cred in one post. oh well. sorry hitch. lady vanishes is still great

I'm actually so obsessed with him it's not even funny if i'm not listening to a TikTok or music directly related to him I can't focus free me free me
This is @/cherubpuppet's OC for a object show [au? pitch? wip show? How do I categorize this] and I've been destroyed by the fact that ruler art is infinitely superior [and 10x longer] and i don't have a good enough grasp on lip gloss's personality to make fanfiction so I am frozen in "want make fanart but fanart takes effort :["
#also object shows are the new mlp community change my mind /ref#from what ive seen a very large part of the community is centered around death/gore or mature topics? it reminds me of the mlp infection au#that and smile hd and everybody keeps saying object shiws are kids shows - if kids are making this stuff then good for them /gen#every fandom has its toxic/proship/18+ side obviously but from my pov gen alpha needed something they coudl handle age appropriate extremes#with - its just alot harder to make compelling emotional angst/gore with newer ultra sanitized shows or w/ mascot horror#and like thats a whole nother tooic but its obvious to me younger kids have flocked to mascot horror so harshly because average kids tv is#much more afraid of tackling any big topics to the point that the ones that DO [bluey] immediately are pushed into front and center#but i mean i also rewatched a few episodes of the shows i grew up with and ngl i think we need shit like ren and stimpy and invader zim#i hate ren and stimpy and i didnt grow up with zim but i grew up with pbs kids shit and that shit looking back was hella boring i never#cared for any of the tv shows i saw aside from elmos world and even then i was hoping that something gorey would happen. at like 5 yrs old#im rambling anyway im not sure if im actually going to get into the os communitg but i AM horribly attached to tape to the point that its#maybe possibly becoming harmful to my mental health so im gonna stick around for him for like months#just know that if im not posting anything its because im obsessed with this guy#oh also DID/MALE SA REP LETS FUCKIN GOOO#I LOVE PSYCHOLOGY AND IVE HAD LIKE 4 FRIENDS WITH DID/OSDD I NEED MORE POSITIVE REP OF STIGMATIZED/COMPLEX DISORDERS !!!!!#art#tape dispenser#search for smos#talk talks#EDIT NO. yes, hello, good evening, i was talking about it with boything earlier (fun tip: get your so into things you enjoy so they'll rubber duck for you, free entertainment), and specifically we were talking about the actual date-date a romanced rook and emmrich have and specifically about what he says (overall - the whole romance) to a mw rook and to a rook from ~somewhere else~
and yeah. part of it is definitely that they have an origin and profession in common, so you can talk about things like, oh, raising the cooks of a queen dead like twenty generations so you can woo somebody. a fact he specifically does not mention to a non-mw rook.
and yeah i think part of it is that a mw rook will absolutely get the significance and neatness factor of him going to those lengths for something like a quiet little romantic dinner.
but have you considered. and what i think is also happening, on the flipside. a lot of the time things like this specifically are less because he and a mw rook can geek out (though it's that, too), but because he's self-editing the whole time about what might be Too Much Too Soon on the weird scale for someone without that background to understand as anything other than maybe. idk. creepy. gross. unhinged, even.
and given his wistfulness in general i can guarantee you it's because - at some point in the past - he got Too Weird Too Soon, because he was Too Eager, and it was the romantic equivalent of stepping on a rake. (like emmrich baby you can't just unload the weird all at once, you gotta ease them in slow so they don't realize the full extent until it's too late c'mon.) he's vibe checking. the entire time up through that date he's vibe checking. vibe checking the seriousness of it. vibe checking the weirdness threshold (because he's very aware other people find nevarrans weird he's not stupid). everything about him moving into the courting phase is cautious as all fuck (even if he's not the best at, like, not using his face like a billboard), and it is so easy - between those things, his jabs at his orlesian ex, his refusal to talk about his romantic past for the most part, etc - to come to the conclusion he's been burned real bad at some point.
and while it's neat that a mw rook definitely gets some fun interactions because they can already pass the weird threshold vibe check, he's still cautious with them. and it's an interesting viewpoint on what he will (or in some cases can reveal considering he can't go spilling mourn watch secrets to just anybody, those are secret for a reason - imagine not being a watcher and finding out about the blood magic lmaoooo) and will not reveal to a non-mw rook, when you look at how cautious he is on the other avenues of relationship building.
#( headcanons )#// like i really do think he's vibe checking rook's ass no matter what faction they're from#// i don't think that's a big surprise tbh#// but i think it's interesting if you look at it through the lens of like#// self-editing#// for someone that doesn't share that background#// deciding what's too much to maybe just throw out there#// for someone that might be generally at least marginally neutral about the necromancy thing#// and like it's things that#// generally may not be that weird#// how often do you see the cook when you go out to dinner right#// but it's the specifics of what he leaves out generally#// that just kind of#// push me into thinking he's just entirely more cautious with someone not from that same background#// it does feel like they're eased in a little slower until#// you know#// the lich thing#// and hell if that's not a deal breaker-#// anyway here have my $0.02

me, stupidly and weirdly resistant to listening to audio books vs reading a physical book for no real reason: man i wish there was a way to like, read a book while i crochet like i do with tv shows and movies and podcasts
#toy txt post#my reasons are irrational you dont need to try to talk me into it. i KNOW#its very silly of me#imagine how much reading i could get done. but alas. Feels Bad#even listening to a more. uh. Story type podcast or fiction like nightvale was a bit difficult to start for me. i like nightvale now i#listened. but i worry that is clocking in my brain as an Exception 😔 maybe it would be easier if i tried some nonfiction books? scary#i also struggle with single host podcasts apparently even tho im also ehhhh on the kind where the structure is the host Interviewing a#different person everytime? maybe it would be okay with a nonfiction audiobook tho cos it would be getting read by a narrator and not sound#so much like a guy ranting into a mic which makes me feel a little insane. altho propaganda doesnt necessarily always sound like a guy#ranting into a mic so idk. i could probably make it through if i can find a nice book about like. parasitic worms. i could tolerate#feeling like im falling into sigma male affirmations videos for worms i think. wormffirmations are allowed#*to clarify i dont listen to those but listening to better offline makes me feel like im morphing into the kinda guy who does and i hate it#which feels unfair cos he is RIGHT and the podcast is good but i need there to be like a cohost there to break the tension of the Ranting#sometimes he has guests on? but its not quite the same#i think the format i like best is either like 2 or 3 regular cohosts discussing things within a specific topic#OR. 1 host whos like infodumping to the other host who knows nothing about the subject. OR. 2 hosts info dumping to each other about#different aspects of the subject. OR. 1 host who brings on fun guests to infodump to them about a subject. and then obviously the subject#needs to intrigue me. ex. sawbones well theres your problem (I HATE THAT THIS ONE IS BEST EXPERIENCED ON YOUTUBE😭 I WANT THEM TO JUST DUMP#ALL THE SLIDES INTO A BIG BLOG POST SOMEWHERE AND I CAN CHECK IN AND FOLLOW ALONG THAT WAY WITHOUT HAVING TO HAVE MY PHONE SCREEN ON THE#WHOLE TIME!!!!!!!!! but. im listening for free so its unreasonable to demand more of them BUT ALSO I FEEL LIKE JUST COPYPASTING ALL OF THE#SLIDES INTO A BIG BLOG POST ISNT THAT MUCH MORE EFFORT THAN EDITING A WHOLE YOUTUBE VIDEO? WAAAAAH. THEY DONT NEED TO BE TIMESTAMPED OR#ANYTHING JUST THROW EM IN ILL FIGURE IT OUTTTTTT#anyway. also more than 3 hosts is really pushing my ability to keep track of voices.#anyway: sawbones wtyp tpwky behind the bastards scam goddess#(which is true crime adjacent but focuses mainly on scams and isnt copaganda and laci is funny and cool)#common descent pod completely arbortrary maintenance phase if books could kill#deep sea podcast has more bringing ppl in to interview them about shit than i personally enjoy but i put up with it cos i do like the hosts#and the subject

i'm writing a speculative short story for this writing class i'm taking where a cleaning robot witnesses a bloody mutiny and its aftermath. (why? no clue, i just love the idea.) for a long time, i only knew what i wanted the robot to be named and just had placeholders for the humans involved, but yesterday i finally went in and gave them all names. and halfway through the naming game i had the VERY amusing (to me) thought of giving the ship officers all names of historical ship officers involved in deadly ship crashes that ended in cannibalism. (the mutiny that serves as the plot is based on a lack of food resources after their ship gets attacked lol.) so the ship's first officer is named fitzjames. i'm rubbing my hands together eagerly waiting to see who will expose themselves as terror fans in this class or if i'll get away with my easter eggs.
#liveblogging life#this story has lived in the back of my brain for MONTHS so im glad i'm finally pushing myself to finish it#as i was outlining it i was like 'oh. this one's actually pretty bleak whoops' ah well my angst demon is coming out i guess#i named all the other ship people after historical ship officers lmao it was pretty fun#also i'm doing this from the pov of the robot so like. all the fic prose is formatted as code#but i am not a programmer and do not even know basic coding language beyond like. html.#so as i'm writing i'm going: huh should i try to make this more like real life code?#but i think i'm falling on the same of a) i don't have the time to learn code before this story is due anyway and b)#if this is in a fake future it's possible code has shifted enough to look significantly different and c)#using real life code would likely make this story harder to read and the plot harder to follow and be too repetitive tbh#i'm also hoping there arent any comp programmers in this class who will call me out on my shitty completely fabricated code lmao#anyway i wrote a big chunk of this yesterday and i'm hoping to get the rest done this weekend so i can edit before submitting weds

I really liked Ramon's idea of filling a tag with cute little things for Fit's birthday, and I was like "Hey, I got a bit of time to spare today, I can whip something up real quick. Surely I don't have THAT many clips of Fit!"
Well...
#mod talk#head in hands#I don't even think this is all of them this is just ones I've remembered to tag with Fit's name#I've been archiving since last April. I've got. A lot of clips. Which I should probably be putting on an external hard drive at this point#Anyways re: the video; I've whittled it down a lot and it's still almost 5 minutes long#I am NOT going to post a 5 minute long video I'm cutting this thing down to like. 3 minutes MAXIMUM#I don't think anyone would watch that and frankly even 3 minutes is pushing it#I liked the last big compilation edit I did before recent events made me unhappy about the subject#So I'm mostly doing this for my own sake and for fellow fans because I think it'll give everyone a laugh#also Ramon because his admin is a sweetie for thinking of this#anyhoo. ya boy's real tired but putting these things together is pretty fun#it's time consuming but tbh the hardest part is just the subtitling. It's just super tedious and time consuming#the rest is fun even if it's also a bit time consuming#I try to keep RA pretty light on textposts but I think it's fun sharing behind the scenes notes about what I'm working on

The China Syndrome (1979)
"I may be wrong, but I'd say you're lucky to be alive. For that matter, I think we might say the same for the rest of Southern California."
#the china syndrome#1979#american cinema#james bridges#t.s. cook#mike gray#jane fonda#jack lemmon#michael douglas#scott brady#james hampton#peter donat#wilford brimley#richard herd#daniel valdez#stan bohrman#james karen#nick pellegrino#donald hotton#paul larson#michael alaimo#incredibly intense movie. the way this builds tension in the last third is unreal‚ a steady ratcheting up from unease to full blown dread#didn't even realise i was frozen to the edge of my seat until the final minutes. career best for Lemmon? i really think it might be#cast entirely against type‚ not an iota of his comic persona‚ just an ordinary decent man pushed further and further into something#desperate and horrifying. his final lines absolutely gave me shivers. loved the editing on this too‚ the way it intercuts between#the team in the reactor‚ the team working to SCRAM it‚ the SWAT team and the producers at the news station. technically perfect cinema#and a real beautiful handling of the material. also love that this has time to address popular journalism practices and the gender gap on#tv news as well as the larger conspiracy element. really great film‚ just how much took me by surprise#also that vibrating cup of coffee? 10x scarier than the similar moment in Jurassic Park. it might look like a thriller but this has the#blood and bones of a horror movie in places. it also has a big tortoise in one scene and that's always a nice addition

> be a robin buckley fan
> be lesbian
> project on robin
> look up "internalized homophobia robin buckley" on tumblr because it's cathartic
> 3/4 of the posts are about st3ddie or just about steve
#saw one in which steve was like ''no robin you don't understand! i have never been loved! i don't know how that feels like!''#i have several grips about that interpretation#going from the fact that's not true (dustin is clearly a big steve fan + robin herself cares about him deeply)#to the fact he probably wouldn't be introspective enough to voice his emotions this concisely not to mention he'd probably wouldn't take#a moment to realize he's never felt loved if that were the case. i mean. he could think that. when he's like 35 and more in touch with his#inner world. 19yo steve can't even get the hint that hitting on a girl who's already clearly taken (nancy) is wrong so like i don't expect#him to be that smart#but i can live with people having takes i don't agree with. my opinion doesn't have to be everyone else's opinion if you see steve that way#it fine#what bothered me was the fact he was saying this to a lesbian living in the 80s lmao#who tells him that 1) her whole life has been an error 2) she doesn't think he'd want to be close to her if he truly knew her and 3)#3) is paralyzed by fear of social suicide if she dares believe for even a second that the girl she likes may like her too#like i dont need people to do deep dives into robin lore and quote from memory lines from Surviving Hawkins abt robin feeling like she's#rotten inside. not supposed to have friends. feeling like something is wrong with her and that pushes people away etc etc#the fact that she's a lesbian should tell you enough abt who has the biggest chances of being loved 😭#also bothered me that it showed up when looking up posts abt internalized homophobia because?? where's the internalized homophobia therw#unless it's gay steve feeling bad abt it in an AU (as if canon robin didn't go through it)#like look im not bothered to find steve-centric content in the robin tag cos people are gonna tag her in posts mentioning her.#she's his friend.#but there are barely any posts at all about robin's internalized homophobia. like i saw 2 or 3. compared to all the steve or steddie ones#where's the love for my babygirl 😭😭#anti steddie#not really but y'know i don't wanna bother anyone#edit: the bit about there being like 3 posts on robin w internalized homophobia isn't exactly true. there are a few. but they still feel#drowned in st3ddie posts#like something isn't right here
