i absolutely adore that brennan did neverafter, a specifically horror season, and then aabria has rocked into the dome twice since and horrified brennan. real "with all due respect, anything you can do, i can do better. on your turf, even" energy
dgmw neverafter was, in fact, quite scary, but personally, i did find the visceral horror of burrow's end and the psychological terror of peloton segway island more impactful.
#dimension 20#burrow's end#misfits and magic season 2#neverafter#i think it boils down to their narration styles and what kinds of word picture they're best at#but that's a whole essay for another day

god i LOVE tv. even better when it's tv that presents relatable problems like "what if i agree to be boyfriends with the cute boy i really really like but then our relationship is great until one day something bad happens and he wants to go back to being a penguin" 💖
#the thing here is that of course what sun is going through really IS a very realistic problem#if we take 'go back to being a penguin again' as the metaphor it can so easily be. and very much is#HOWEVER. this boy is also literally asking 'what if my (potential) boyfriend turns back into a penguin'#which. in my humble opinion. is THE best way to do a plot like this fdjkfdf#none of this is at all like due south but it has due south vibes in the magical realism aspect of it all. which is an immediate win for me#well. magical realism + lonely people + there's something about animals and humans + it's queer(coded) + it's so so so kind#*#caged again#caged again the series

Serendipity should be required viewing material before anyone tries to analyze Homestuck; not only is John Cusack a universal constant, but the themes and vibes of Serendipity are so fundamentally woven into Homestuck's DNA that several of Serendipity's thesises and conversations could be lifted directly from one to the other.
In particular, the way Serendipity utilizes coincidence and circumstantially simultaneous events in order to suggest - nay, decree - that the two leads belong together, is highly reminiscent of the way Hussie uses foreshadowing, and not just for romantic couples. It's also a major window into the ultimate stance Homestuck takes with regard to romance, fate, and destiny, and also more specifically, a really good look at Karkat's own personal philosophies of romance. There's a running theme in his movies of meeting someone that perfectly matches your freak, someone you don't ever need to compromise yourself around, who brings out the best in you.
Also, some of yall need to watch a shitty romcom every once in a while and develop some emotions

#I'm genuinely not joking#if you want to understand Karkat and Homestuck better you need to watch Serendipity#at the very least so you can understand what the comic means by soul mates#i mean it's literally NAMEDROPPED during the troll romance section as the ultimate expression of finding your soul mates in every quad#people literally will be like 'i like karkat' and not watch serendipity smh#anyway the karkat movie list is serendipity • hitch • 50 first dates#he calls serendipity and hitch specifically 'pure magic' and yes. yeah.#i know we all love to clown on karkat's love of embarrassing romcoms and we're right to do so it's hilarious#but hussie also unironically calls it the best character trait he gave karkat and hes soooo correct about that#and you can tell from the way serendipity and even 50 first dates are described that those are kind of hussies genuine feelings toward them#hes right 50 first dates DOESN'T make you want to punch adam sandler#despite the occassional uncomfortable lowbrow comedy segment everything about the romance is played so straight and so genuine#maybe this shitty adam sandler romcom made me cry maybe im man enough to admit it#and idrk how else to describe serendipity besides 'pure magic'#tbh just watch it for yourself#homestuck is like 30% serendipity by volume

To me the fun of Arceus is that it's like, what if God where a whale? It doesn't really engage with humanity that much because, it's a whale. It's probably slightly biased towards the whales.
It's intelligent and it's benevolent and it wants to help humans but it cannot comprehend the human mind any more than we can comprehend the whale mind and so it doesn't always fully understand what helping looks like. You can worship the whale, but it's not going to intuit what that means any more than we can intuit migration patterns.
It's just a whale in space, and it doesn't know what you're asking of it
#i have more Opinions but this is just kind of my approach#it's powerful and magical but its not human#it doesnt know whats best for human society any more than you know whats best for whale society#and that's without even begging the question; what power does it even have?#we make a lot of assumptions but actually know very little

I think the fandom's hate for DA2 often forgets that the devs were forced into a like, 15 month development cycle by EA. It was pretty clear in how the game's levels were designed and reused, and it couldn't be polished into something more. But, what we got was a micro-level scale story with macro-scale consequences to the overall story of the series; it was a personal journey of an everyday person and all of their friends living in a shitty city, enduring the impossible stories of grief and change, all while dealing with the overarching consequences of the conflicts caused by a religious-political institution in real time.
Also, DA2 gave us Meredith, who is, by and large, not a god or supernatural entity, but just a woman, who was allowed far too much power that went entirely unchecked during her reign. It's a reflection of real world politicians and military leaders, which therefore makes her the most realistic type of villain in the series (and that's long before they gave her the red lyrium idol to turn her into a Boss Fight™).
Ultimately the other aspects of the games in this series - the level design, the combat, music, etc. - are all going to be subjective, especially when in comparison to the other games / your own personal preferences, but to say that it's just "objectively bad" when the story in and of itself is a departure from the other games where you get put into the role of Designated Hero™, whereas Hawke, for the most part, is Just Some Guy (gender neutral) (and this is also why I enjoy Rook in a similar-ish kind of way, where you accidentally become important at work), is really missing the point of what they were trying to do. I fully stand by the point that if Kirkwall got the DAV environment treatment today, it would be way more popular than it is.
#OOC.#[ yes i did post this earlier and realized the tone sounded like I was vague posting when I didn't intend to]#[ but I think that ppl look at the ugly exterior and miss the gold that's tucked away in the dusty corner ]#[ and I think Hawke is by far the most relatable protag in terms of age and experience ]#[ and how they DO have a bg to them whereas our Inkys and Rooks get a vague bg and we make them into our own ocs which is fine ]#[ but it's nice to have someone by default be put in a role far beyond their skill and go through the motions than not ]#[ and also again: Meredith is the best villain in terms of realism to the actual world which makes her more terrifying than a god ]#[ and i say that bc she represents every kind of person given too much power at their job that has real world consequences ]#[ like yeah a god or supernatural entity has powers we know this ]#[ but a regular woman with some magic quelling abilities has the means to oppress everyday people by the thousands ]#[ all bc of her title and personal beliefs ]#DASH COMMENTARY.#[ anyway that's my rant. we can all disagree w each other but i have felt this since that game came out ]#[ and since ive been on this hellsite ]#[ and it continues to this day ]

And this got me. Karan tried so hard to be the worker he wanted to be but the people around him wanted him to be something else entirely and only Achi saw past that, only Achi was watching what he did and listening to him. Because Achi sees into people despite himself. he sees past facades because he is really listening as long as it's not about him.
This is why Karan loves Achi and you can see it. Achi sees his work, the same way Karan learned to see what Achi did. Achi sees that what the client was doing is wrong and what their bosses were doing is wrong because he sees people rather than goals.
And it's Achi's kindness, Achi natural kindness and urge to comfort people, Achi's way of seeing everyone around him as better than himself that lets him offer comfort no one else could or would. Achi sees the people around and cares for them and the way he puts people above himself leaves him kind and understanding
Achi gave Karan a gift of kindness and in return Karan discovered something even deeper.

one thing that's good about every version of cherry magic is that by virtue of its core premise, and, indeed, the full title of the japanese series (Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?!) you know that you will be getting at least one character who is at least thirty years old. and i can't tell you how much i love when characters are at least thirty years old. it's excellent, we should do more of that
#the thing about Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?! that one might not expect#when reading a title like Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?!#is that it's actually very sweet. and kind and thoughtful. AND it's about someone who turns thirty (and becomes a wizard*)#(* whose only power is mindreading. truly this title sounds so wild but the show is so deeply low key considering)#anyway. i think it's probably for the best that the thai version went with only 'cherry magic thailand' but also. it's such a missed chance#when they could have gone with Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?! Thailand!#and then presented us all with this even LOWER key thai style reinterpretation of the story (which i deeply adore)#*#cherry magic#cherry magic th

"A Ghanaian-English entrepreneur has designed an electric bike from the ground up that’s transforming short-range transportation in her home country, proving that problem-solving in Africa can be done in Africa, by Africans.
[Valerie Labi's] company, Wahu!, assembles each bike by hand, and they can travel up to 80 miles [128 kilometers] on a single charge. This means that a delivery rider for Glovo or Bolt can comfortably cover a whole day’s work without refueling.
Anyone who’s visited Accra, Ghana, in the dry season will remember the incredibly poor air quality. Poor roads mean that cars are stuck in second and third gears, and old cars traveling in second and third gears mean plenty of extra car exhaust.
Poor roads also mean exposed dirt, and exposed dirt means fine-grained dust. Combined with a lack of rain, the smog, dust, and car exhaust make the air in parts of the capital unfit for human health.
Wahu! bikes help alleviate all three of these problems, and despite her English nativity [Note: Super weird and unclear way to phrase it?] and education, the bikes were designed and manufactured in Spintex, Accra.
“By introducing electric bikes into Ghana’s transportation ecosystem, we’re not only providing a greener alternative but also offering speed and convenience,” Labi told The Mirror. “Our bikes are a testament to how service delivery can be seamlessly merged with environmental conservation.”
Valerie Labi is a true inspiration, and besides her transportation company, she got her start in the Ghanaian economy in sanitation. She holds a chieftaincy title as Gundugu Sabtanaa, given to her by the previous Chief of the Dagbon traditional area in the Northern Region of Ghana. She has three children, holds a double major in Economics and Sustainability from two separate universities, and has visited 59 countries.
Getting her start in Northern Ghana, she founded the social enterprise Sama Sama, a mobile toilet and sanitation company that now boasts 300,000 clients.
During her travels around the small, densely populated country, she also recognized that transportation was not only a problem, but offered real potential for eco-friendly solutions.
“It took us two years to effectively design a bike that we thought was fit for the African road, then we connected with Jumia and other delivery companies to get started,” she told The Mirror. “Currently, I have over 100 bikes in circulation and we give the bikes on a ‘work and pay’ basis directly to delivery riders.”
According to Labi, each driver pays about 300 Ghana cedis, or about $24.00, per week to use the bike, which can travel 24 miles per hour, and hold over 300 pounds of weight. The fat tires are supported by double-crown front/double-spring rear suspension.
The bikes are also guaranteed by the company’s proprietary anti-theft system of trackers. Only a single bike has been stolen, and it was quickly located and returned to the owner."

My most unpopular Zelda opinion is that I sincerely think LOZ is at its worst when it's trying to tell some serious epic fantasy story. Like nobody agrees with me on this but it's a hill I'll die on.
#LOZ's stories are several decades behind the rest of the fantasy genre#they often rely on plot points/characters/worldbuilding that fantasy has long since moved away from bc they're overdone and boring#a medieval european fantasy story where a knight and princess fight against a flat evil using magic mcguffins is a pretty hard sell to most#because it's. y'know. overdone and boring. cliché.#LOZ is at its best when it either a) forgoes this structure entirely (link's awakening/majora's mask)#or b) focuses on other aspects over its story (minish cap has this kind of plot structure but the plot is not the real focus of the game)#(that is the creation of a whimsical and unique fantasy world + its unique game mechanics. at which it succeeds and it's incredibly charmin#but when it plays this story straight and asks me to care about it (skyward sword/ocarina of time/tears of the kingdom/twilight princess/a#it inevitably falls flat for me. ooooh look fantasy story number 23954. riveting.#I like all of these games and enjoy at least some aspects of their story but fact of the matter is that the stories are deeply unimpressive#OOT's story is the best of a bad lot because that does interesting things with its childhood/adulthood theme#but even then the actual plot is so terminally generic that I regularly forget I even played it. it left little to no impression on me#LOZ is so good when it's weird and so boring when it's generic#my posts
