The Holiday (2006, Nancy Meyers) is a movie that I didn't like very much when I first saw it but every time I watch it I like it more. When I first watched it, I was there for The Beautiful Jude Law and Cameron Diaz visiting from Charlie's Angels universe. I didn't really "get" the "B plot" with Kate Winslet and Jack Black. This was before I'd seen much other than Titanic with Kate Winslet and had not yet seen School of Rock or sang along to Tenacious D. I could not appreciate them and what they were doing.
Revisiting the movie in 2020, it became a comfort movie for me during the pandemic, sometimes watching it more than once in the same day in the background while I worked. I played the soundtrack so often on Spotify it showed up in my Wrapped. Also Enio Morricone because I went down a total rabbit hole after Jack Black's character insisted.
Also watched a bunch of the films Arthur suggested or implied, which gave me another fresh appreciation for the film. Turns out as an adult Arthur's plot is my favorite and what brings me back to watch again and again. And I now know that Kate&Jack aren't the B Plot. I could shout for days about the subversion of the comedia tropes....(in this essay I will...)
It's pretty, it's funny, it's tender while not being too depressing, overall it's in favor of love above all practicality while still acknowledging logistics exist. If you haven't watched it in a while, I encourage you to give it another chance.
Here's some of my favorite stuff from and about The Holiday so it's all in one place next time I want to tell someone about it.
First of all, turns out I was raised watching Nancy Meyers movies just as much as Nora Ephron movies and had no idea. This vulture article is a fun approach to her "cinematic universe"

Some of the best scenes are the ones with Jack Black, so this makes it easier to find a particular scene to show someone. Followed by an old school DVD making of video. Classic.

My friend and I went to see Saltburn and went in completely blind (typically we read the whole storyline prior to going). We were not expecting all of that. We agreed that Choices™️ were made that we wouldn’t have made ourselves, haha.
So interested to hear your thoughts if you want to share 🩷
Oh gosh, yeah, haha, I feel like going in blind must've been a bit of a shock.
I kinda knew what to expect because a friend of mine had already told me it was 'if Talented Mr Ripley was dumb' and I'd seen a bit of the press for it so was expecting certain scenes, and look - - I was just commenting to @nakedmonkey, but I do think the worst crime a movie can commit is to be boring, and I don't think it was boring, so it had that going for it at the very least, haha.
Some of the performances were fun (Rosamund Pike in particular is always great), but overall, I just think it was just a really shallow film that was less interested in character arcs or relationships than it was in shock value. It flirted with these rich themes of class and race, power, attraction and intimacy, control and freedom, and it just chose the cheap shot every time. It was more interested in making the audience gasp or cringe than it was in actually having the characters evolve or devolve in a way that - - y'know, told a compelling story, and any shift in a dynamic was handled so limply that it had no real emotional impact.
I don't know. I still had enough fun watching it (my cinema was packed and the audience skewed pretty young, and their response was hilarious), but I just ultimately don't think it had as much to say as it pretended it did.

people who hate on 2023’s Peter Pan and Wendy just don’t deserve a world where Jude Law puts his whole pussy into playing Captain Hook
