“Mrs. Bradshaw, how does it feel knowing your husband may very well be the first American in space?”
I was inspired to go with an Astronaut Wives Club theme after seeing @ryebecca’s gorgeous Astronaut Jake mood board!

So saddened to hear of the death of Marilyn Lovell, who passed away on Sunday at the age of 93, surrounded by her family and husband Jim Lovell (Gemini 7, Gemini 12, Apollo 8, Apollo 13). They were married for an amazing 71 years!
Sharing the obituary from her family:
Marilyn lived an extraordinary life. She expressed a charming personality, one who welcomed you with a genuine smile and engaging conversation. Marilyn served as the consummate Naval Officer's wife, and later as an active member of the original Astronaut's Wives Club promoting her husband's NASA career and providing support to other astronaut wives.
Her greatest joy was her family. Marilyn was the matriarch of the ever-expanding Lovell family. She had four children, eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Lovingly referred to as Grammie, she enjoyed a close relationship with her "grands" whom she frequently visited and doted on.
A legacy of Marilyn's is a triangular shaped mountain on the moon that bears her name, Mount Marilyn. Jim named the mountain while mapping future landing sites during his historic Apollo 8 mission. This landmark mountain stands prominent along the edge of the moon's Sea of Tranquility representing the steadfast strength Marilyn had throughout her life.
Love and condolences to Jim and their whole family ❤️

The L.A.-based Moscovitch says she was drawn to Jones’ richly woven exploration of race, sexuality, memory and trauma, but says the adaptation is a love story at its core. “The changes we’ve made have made it very queer-explicit. And gorgeous and poetic and dark. If you want something conventional, and if you want something that’s not queer-explicit, it’s not going to be for you,” says Moscovitch, who planned to spend the holidays in Halifax. British “Game of Thrones” actor and musician Jacob Anderson stars as the brooding Louis while Australian actor Sam Reid, whose credits include the historical U.K. feature “Belle” and ABC’s “The Astronaut Wives Club,” is the captivating but cruel and chaotic Lestat. O’Byrne, a development boss at Jones’ production company Dwight Street Book Club, credits much of the show’s fervent following to the charisma of the two leads. “The great thing is that they get along. They’re very, very dear friends and they sort of fell instantly in love with each other, which I think is wonderful, as people,” says the 43-year-old O’Byrne, who moved to Los Angeles in 2006.
a Jam Reiderson tidbit, as well as some thoughts behind the creation of the show adaptation, from an article published 12/21/2022 for the Winnipeg Free Press

Was anyone else a fan of The Astronaut Wives Club? Because now I simply cannot get the idea of the Dagger boys as the Mercury Seven astronauts out of my head and I feel like I need to discuss it 😂

Kenneth Alexander Mitchell (November 25, 1974 – February 24, 2024) was a Canadian actor. He was known for his role as Eric Green in the CBS television series Jericho (2006–2008) and for portraying various characters in Star Trek: Discovery (2017–2021).
Mitchell began his acting career in commercials and independent productions. His first major roles came in Leap Years and Odyssey 5.
In 2014, Mitchell was cast in ABC'sThe Astronaut Wives Club television drama series, playing the role of Deke Slayton. Mitchell played three recurring Klingon characters in Star Trek: Discovery: season 1's Kol and season 2's Kol-Sha (Kol's father) and Tenavik. He also appeared in season 3 as Aurellio, a character whose use of a wheelchair-like device matched Mitchell's real situation with his progressing amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) disease; Mitchell hinted that he would be seen in season 4 playing a character who, like Mitchell's progressing situation, has lost the use of his voice. Mitchell was cast in the FXThe Old Man by Dan Shotz, a friend of Mitchell's who was also an executive producer on Jericho. The role also incorporated Mitchell's condition into the character. (Wikipedia)

This reminds me of a complaint I saw when that Astronaut Wives’ Club show was on about how “the show should be about the ASTRONAUTS, their wives are BORING and didn’t DO ANYTHING.”
You’re saying the wives of the first men to leave Earth were not interesting in their own right? That they don’t have their own stories to tell? That they didn’t have tremendous courage watching their husbands, their kids’ fathers, embark on a journey that could get them killed? How pro-woman of you.
The obsession with proving there were warrior women in history is kinda weird, honestly. Like it’s cool where it happens and their life stories tend to be really interesting, but acting like women were just worthless if none of them fought in war is high key weird to me, and it is equally weird when fiction acts this way too.
Like there is more to life than death and violence. The women artists, craftsmen, business owners, nuns, wives/mothers they’re all really interesting too. And they were worth having around. Just because they didn’t go fight in battle doesn’t make them worth any less or anything…
