OPT OUT OF DISCORD'S NEW ARBITRATION CLAUSE

I'm sure many people in the U.S. have seen discord's new terms of service thing pop up today, April 15th 2024, but haven't actually read it. this is an update to make it so you can't sue them or participate in any class actions against them. these kinds of agreements should be illegal and stuff but they aren't so here we are. there's no easy button to click that says opt out. to opt out you have to email their arbitration opt-out email, arbitration-opt-out@discord.com, with the following subject and message:

Sometimes I see time-travel!superbat where Bruce meets an older version of Clark and can’t quite believe that it’s not an alternate reality. That things will play out for him like it did his counterpart. Where he doesn’t believe that he’s worth it, or that anyone could stick around through his idiosyncrasies.

The fics unfold as Clark weathering that paranoia or distrust. His amusement at Bruce’s obstinacy. Or Bruce’s shock and disbelief at having a relationship.

What I would like, is a fic where Clark meets older!Bruce, one who has been married for years and shows how he loves his husband. Where Clark sometimes can’t quite convince himself that Bruce actually wants their relationship and isn’t just humoring him in some sort of way. That under all of Bruce’s masks, the ones that choose the most optimal decision in any situation, the ones that stress team cohesion and efficiency, that Bruce just wants him. Plain and simple. No ulterior motive. Just want.

I want that Clark to meet a Bruce who is so settled in his marriage, that he doesn’t realize how the smallest of concessions are blazing neon signs to Clark. Laughing at a joke, leaning into touches, faint non-smiles, eye rolls, shifting his weight, literally any tell of his that he normally suppresses and just. Allows Clark to see. Puts on for Clark because he knows it amuses him. Wants him to see and be a part of.

Just, the easy acceptance of Clark’s love that he couldn’t convince himself he’d be able to make Bruce believe. Being loved back, just as fiercely. Altering habits not out of necessity, but preference. For someone so stoic, so controlled and measured in their every response, to see him be as relaxed as he’s capable of. To know that Clark has shaped that relaxation.

I think that the first thing Bruce does, unthinkingly, catches Clark off guard. Maybe he blinks at a question or raises an eyebrow. Reacts in a way he doesn’t usually allow. And an alarm goes off in Clark’s head. He keeps a list, a tally of all the ways this man isn’t his Bruce, all of the ways he’s softer. He thinks there must be something wrong. An alternate universe, a trick of some sort. Because it’s wrong. For as miraculous as it is to see a Batman that actually chuckled at one of his jokes, it strikes him as wrong. Some sort of forced personality change.

And if he confronts Bruce about it?

Bruce is devastated. To learn that the man who becomes his husband doesn’t believe that his love will affect him in measurable ways. That Clark will actually distrust him for how he’s changed. That the most remarkable thing he’s ever been a part of is so unbelievable that Clark looks for other explanations.

And Bruce may acknowledge that he can do a poor job of showing it, did a poor job of showing it in the beginning, but he loves Clark. For no particular reason other than that he wants to. It is not kindness or pity or whatever other misguided concerns Clark has. It’s that he wants him and allowed himself to be changed. To be better. And he tells him so.

(When older!Bruce sees younger!Bruce he has a few helpful suggestions. Well, he thinks they’re helpful. Younger!Bruce can’t quite see how “make sure to roll your eyes once a week” would make his future marriage better, but who is he to question it? It obviously worked out. Even if Clark looks at him like he’s grown a second head the first time he does it. Actually he’s pretty sure he x-rayed him but won’t call him on it. Just this once.)

Arbitrator OC for the upcoming Rogue Trader DLC.

Arbitrator Vladimir Vladimirovich Axenov, basically wh40k KGB. An awful and corrupt man.

Some lore under the cut.

- an orphan of an Imperial Guard officer, his father was a colonel, his mother a rank-and-file soldier (frat)

- was a bully at Schola Progenium, dominated and manipulated the class, already showed aptitude for knowing how to make people flinch

- somehow, avoided the usual indoctrination and came out more focused on survival and personal gain than the Imperium

- Arbitrator, showed promise to become a Proctor, but brass gave up on him due to continued misconduct

- privy to criminal circles and all the things that should be beneath him (gangs, syndicates, local law), obviously for personal gain. but being part of it means he has the quickest response to any "actual" threats so he is allowed to fuck around but is under constant investigation (which he hates), disliked by some (doesn't care) and respected by others (doesn't mind fraternization - not a good idea to get close to him), and will never get a promotion (until he becomes a Rogue Trader, for which he is the top worst choice)

- barbed wire scars are from that one time he got surrounded by a crowd of rioteers, someone threw a barbed wire on his neck, caught on the hinge of the helmet, and when Vladimir shook the attacker off, the wire tore his face open (tldr Vladimir is hard to kill)

P.S. yes, his dad's name was Vladimir, too, and his mother named him that way, but there is a joke that was Schola's choice

I’ve had an interesting thought swimming around my head that I swear I’ve been meaning to write

You know what would be an interesting combination of characters?

Jazz and Harvey Dent/TwoFace

Specifically a Dent just getting back on his feet, released from Arkham and trying to learn how to exist in the world with his condition

I’m thinking a reveal gone wrong, Danny has disappeared to ancients know where, so Jazz cuts ties and Stays with her Uncle Dent, or maybe her bio dad if that’s more your game. Just an soaking wet and miserable Jazz showing up at his crappy apartment saying she’s his daughter or niece and him resisting the urge to flip a coin because he has enough on his plate as is, only to let her in telling her they’ll talk about it in the morning and point her to the shower so she can clean up and dry off

Why do I think this would be an interesting combo?

Jazz’s interest in psychology. A lot of times, as a fandom we depict her as an expert, and in a future timeline where she went to school and has been practicing psychology maybe, but default Jazz? She’s not an expert

Jazz wants to be a brain surgeon, psychology is an interest of hers but her understanding is very limited. She quotes Freud and Jung and has some amount of academic knowledge of the field, but she clearly doesn’t understand that psychoanalyzing friends and family and offering unwanted psychiatric advice is actually rude and something she shouldn’t do. She lacks understanding of actual therapy and is clumsy in applying her knowledge to people she knows

And I find putting her in proximity of someone with DID and probably PTSD would really be an eye opening experience for her

Because Dent might humor her, TwoFace will call her out. They both have hung around Harley to know enough to tell her, “maybe don’t take Freud so seriously” because man does everything go back to sex with Freud, and maybe quoting a guy that says she wants to boink her dad is not as strong of a point as she thinks it is

And the thing is, Harvey would likely still be receiving therapy as an outpatient, potentially taking meds to help deal with his conditions, likely a mood stabilizer or anxiety med to manage PTSD symptoms, so she’s front seat of him learning to live as a regular person in Gotham with his condition. She’s gonna see his good days, his bad days, the side effects of his medication, and it’s going to change her idea of what psychology is. It’s not just quoting things at people, it’s not just saying “this is good for people” but she’d see what it being put into practice would look like

Maybe that’ll push her away from the subject. Maybe it’ll make her more inclined to study, to learn not just about it as an abstract but how to actually apply it to help people. Learning about actual therapy practices. Maybe living first hand with mental illness would be the push to switch from neurosurgery to clinical psychology in her future plans

Also I just think that Dent would be empathetic and do what he could to help her, meanwhile TwoFace would help her cut loose a little, get a little chaotic and have some fun

You can’t tell me there’s not something fun about her and “Uncle Two-y” having a night on the town that only results in a little property damage. Relax Harv, they didn’t do anything too illegal, because they didn’t get caught or nothing

It has been less than 48 hours since the release of the Arbites DLC for Darktide, and in that time I have:

Gotten my arbitrator to level 30

Completed the campaign

Fully leveled the mastery for the Exterminator Shotgun

Fully leveled the mastery for the shock maul and suppression shield

Fully leveled the mastery for the subductor shotpistol and suppression shield

Completed 46 out of the 62 penances unique to the class

Obtained one of the two transcendent armour sets, but continued to run the original set because I like the simple look.

This DLC is a blast, and I will 100% be starting work on an Arbitrator cosplay. At the very least, I will build the helmet and make a prop Arbites grenade. We’ll see if I still have energy after that.

I've been thinking about the reason why the arbitrator comes out of the blue on RT's ship.

Wild guess:

It turns out that Theodora didn't pay taxes for a very long time, so now RT has to bear the arbitrator's presence in her retinue till she pays off the debt. It also explains why RT (at least, my Lynette) always desperately loots literally everything and why her first words when she arrives at any destination are often "Is there money to be made?"
