An apology wouldn't make up for anything now. Should this situation have been avoided, he would expect an earful from Mitsuru and then some. A thorough scolding for acting so reckless, for endangering himself and Ken's life, and above all making everyone else worry. Yet despite the harsh tongue lashing, it was spoken out of genuine care and concern. That was how Mitsuru always showed her compassion. What was done, though, couldn't be taken back. A life lost for another life spared. In the end, Shinjiro knew it had to be him instead of anyone else. His path of destruction led up to this very moment, seeing anguished faces and teary eyes loom above him. He recognized Mitsuru's long, crimson locks almost immediately, and despite the dark night drowning out everyone's figures her eyes managed to pierce through the dense miasma. "...you'll be okay..." His weak smile lasted a moment before harsh coughs racked in his throat. A bout of blood spilled from his mouth trailing down his cheek, dripping in a rhythmic pattern on the asphalt. He wanted to focus on Mitsuru for these precious last seconds. "...you're strong...the strongest -HNK-...the strongest woman I know..." He felt himself fade fast. One last action prompted him to take her hand in his own. It was so warm, and his felt so cold. "...don't...give up now..." He went limp. The blood kept pouring out.

Mitsuru always felt like she was three steps behind him and Akihiko. They were always running ahead in Tartarus, leaving her chasing after them and reaching out in a desperate attempt to get closer. To be the friend they all said they were.

So of course she was too late when they finally caught up to Ken and Shinjiro. As Akihiko slid down to hold Shinjiro close, she knelt down on his other side, leaning over him and shouting for someone to notify her father and Ikutsuki that they needed medical help immediately. She placed a hand on Shinji's shoulder, tears welling up in her eyes as she noticed Akihiko was shaking.

At the sound of Shinjiro's voice, Mitsuru's gaze moved to his face, noticing the blood trickling from his lips. At first, his words didn't even reach her ears, the whole world was muffled as she tried to process the fact that there was an actual gunshot in his chest right now. But then he directly addressed her.

"The strongest woman I know."

The words played over and over in her head as she leaned in again, the tears threatening to spill over as she gently tried to wipe the blood away from his chin. Instead, she merely spread it across his cheek, a small pathetic sob leaving her as she realized she'd only made more of a mess.

"D-Don't... You'll be fine," She protested.

She already knew it was too late. By the time any medical team would arrive he'd be long gone. Mitsuru was always too late, always falling behind him.

She noticed droplets falling onto his chest. Her tears were finally starting to fall.

2 things- i dont think vi is hunting jinx just for caitlyn. she feels incredibly guilty over the amount of people who died as a result of her sister's actions. she said she'd hunt jinx alone, without the badge, before caitlyn even made the offer. at this point in the story she believes powder is well and truly dead, and hunts jinx for idealistic reasons. caitlyn is only the reason she join the enforcers, NOT the only reason she hunts jinx. until she realizes she's recreating the cycle of violence caitlyn talked about in s1, when she sees the kid, thats when her will to hunt jinx kinda fades.

caitlyn has known vi for a week, maybe less, and yet, when vi begged her to not kill the terrorist who kidnapped and tried to kill her, she listened. she listened and it cost her everything. so when vi attempts to do it again, after asking her to trust her, she completely loses her shit. especially when vi implies she doesnt trust caitlyn's aim and compares her to her mom's murderer. its not unjustified on vi's part but maybe saying this to caitlyn at that moment wasnt the smartest choice.

both of them are so justified, thats how u create a good conflict. its not just one side being mean and bad and the other whole and pure.

My roman empire is that Vi became the thing she hated her whole life(the thing that killed her parents), sold out their childhood hiding spot(that they used to hide from enforcers before) and is hunting down her terrorist sister, ALL FOR CAITLYN(whom she knows for like a week) and Caitlyn just. Turns her back on her the moment Vi doesn't let her take a shot that could kill a child. EXCUSE ME MISS. CAITLYN. WHAT THE FUCK.

Talking about the checking an author's other works is that like.... it's really junk when you're reading a story that has no romance, but when you go into the author's other works, the only things they've ever written were romance. So you're stuck trying to figure out if they'll eventually turn the story romantic or not.
