Meet my first OC to have a specific fandom they’re attached to!

So I’ve never created an OC specifically for the universe of a show before, they’ve always been fandomless, but I was excited to create one for Wynonna Earp. I’m going to give him a proper page on the muse list as well as give everyone more detailed biographies eventually, but for now, this should work.

DISCLAIMER: to anyone who may have concerns, please know that I myself am Native American (Blackfoot and Cherokee), and did a lot of research while creating this character to make sure I do them justice and create an actual Native character that isn’t just a stereotype. Some parts that might seem stereotypical - such as the name this character chooses to go by - just comes with the modern era the universe is set in and the character’s own reasons. Several of the struggles he faces as well are specifically chosen because I hope to raise awareness in some small ways to the struggles that IPOC face even today. None of it is meant to be fetishising or stereotypical - some of it just exists in that space as an unfortunate reality.

EDUCATION. average  student  throughout  elementary ,  middle &  high  school .  graduated with an equally average gpa of 3.0 , &  decided against college, choosing to seek education in less typical places .  fed up with his family and much of the treatment of his peers, he began to learn magic from a witch he met on one of his regular trips to wander the ghost river triangle and explore & learnt magic and about the more mystical parts of purgatory - ultimately becoming a skinwalker via the witch’s guidance and training .

FACECLAIM.  booboo stewart . 

HEIGHT.  5 ' 8 " ,  though when able to he wears combat boots that add a few inches to his height . 

EYES.  a very keen and observant hazel when he’s in human form .   when shifting , eye colour can range from yellow to red to green to blue depending on many factors - location , how far he shifts , etc .  always alert and bright unless intoxicated or in very rough shape emotion-wise . often wishes they were green or grey and has considered wearing contacts to change his eyes (human-wise) to those colours.

EYEBROWS.   defined  arch  but not so much so that it’s dramatic .  not too thin and not too bushy , and naturally neat - he rarely has to tend to them and usually only does so to shave a tiny slit or two through them as a stylistic choice .

HAIR.  long and dark ;  sleek with an ever so slight wave to it .  typically worn either down or in a loose ponytail , occasionally sections are braided .  falls just a few inches above his ribcage .  every so often he’ll dye streaks into his hair but has never dyed his whole head .

SCARS.  many . he has a variety of smaller scars from a rowdy childhood; a few faint ones on his hands and arms from scratches borne of cats and dogs . the typical scars that come from falling off bicycles or off swings ; scraped knees and cuts on chins . his forearms especially are covered in scars he prefers not to speak of .  there’s a scar on his forehead from a fight with his cousin as well as a few long scars on his back .

DRESSING STYLE.  it varies depending upon mood and whatever job he has at the time . especially fond of punk / alternative styles , likes leather , and enjoys the comfort of loose and flowing garments. whatever style he happens to choose at any given time , he wears well and somehow always manages to draw attention - whether from the jewelry he accessorises with (varieties of bracelets and cuffs , rings , pendants with gems , etc.)

LIPS.  naturally  full ,  scar at the right corner of his lip , occasionally  sore or split when he goes through anxious phases and tends to chew at his lips .

SKIN.   smooth , tanned . he doesn’t have much body hair , a fact that doesn’t tend to bother him much. he rarely engages in a skincare routine and much like his eyebrows generally stays neat and well-kempt without much effort . does not wear much makeup but enjoys eyeliner from time to time . if not for his skin tone, the dark circles beneath his eyes would be much more visible .

CHEEKS.  defined cheekbones ,   not easily flushed .  sports the occasional scars due to nervous picking when he was younger.

THREAT LEVEL.  mediocre  to  high .

WEAPONS.  fairly efficient in his understanding of magic and can easily hold his own with either combative or defensive magic ,  but prefers when possible to rely on his own physical skills ; is proficient in hand to hand combat thanks to the speed , agility , and strength bequeathed upon him by his skinwalker nature . very skilled in knifeplay , whether throwing or up close . has little to no practise with firearms as of 1x01 . 

MAGIC. magic learnt by his mentor was primarily elemental based and neutral in that it could easily be manipulated for defensive or offensive ; he was never extremely proficient and left before he could complete his training so he is still learning his limits and the heights he can reach , and wants to branch out . as for the magical abilities granted by his status as skinwalker - he is able to shapeshift , which saps him of certain levels of energy that depend upon what creature he takes the shape of . he is also granted higher than average speed, agility, and strength because of this which he keeps with him even when not shifting.

➣➣ he was born in georgia originally to a loving but struggling mother and father - his mother was hopi and his father was creek, and while both parents had originally lived on their own respective reservations, they had met one another by chance during a trip and fallen in love, eventually deciding to seek out their own home outside of the reservations. his parents loved him but struggled financially; eventually his mother’s sister offered to take him in. as that was the better option rather than the three of them becoming homeless, crow’s parents sent him to live with his aunt in arizona on the rez. while they stayed in touch, his parents needed to stay in georgia, and as such he only would see them on the occasional holiday.

➣➣ while his aunt meant well, his cousins were another story. living with his aunt and uncle would have been fine had it not been for their two children; a son and daughter who constantly bullied him behind their backs for not being pure hopi as they were, often harassing him about being a ‘halfbreed’. a quiet boy at heart to boot, he faced bullying in school as well all the way through high school. his cousins, in tenth grade, snooped in his room and found his journal - which they used to out him as pansexual to the school.

➣➣ the moment he graduated, he spent as much time off the rez as possible, avoiding his cousins. on one of his frequent trips to simply explore nearby cities and towns, he found himself in purgatory. one drunken night led to following a mysterious woman into the woods. as it turned out, she was a witch. intrigued and excited at the idea of learning magic and having a way to defend himself, he quickly took her up on her offer to teach him. after a few months, she let him in on her secret - she was a skinwalker.

➣➣ she talked up how powerful she was because of it, and how no one would ever hurt her again. the more he heard about it, the more he wanted it. still unhealed from the way he was treated growing up and too caught up in the concept of never having to be beneath someone ever again, he agreed to let her hold the ceremony that would make him one as well without thinking of the consequences. when she told him that the final task he needed was to kill a family member... he almost faltered but agreed and went back to the rez. 

➣➣ he almost didn’t do it. it was night when he returned, and he could see his male cousin drinking on the porch. the concept of killing someone - even someone like his cousin who had treated him so poorly - was daunting. he might have changed his mind had his cousin not seen him arriving and was immediately being malicious; using homophobic slurs and accusing crow of having run off with a lover, talking about how disgraceful it was. and it all was a blur from there.

➣➣ bringing back a lock of his cousin’s hair to the witch, she finished the rituals and he became the creature she had promised - powerful but at what cost? still wrought with guilt despite having made the ultimate choice, crow left the forests on the outskirts of purgatory where he had been training and into the ghost river triangle itself, unable to go home after what he did and unable to stomach facing the witch. living out of his truck, he went from odd job to odd job, eventually landing a stable job as a cashier at a grocery store. around this time he chose to begin going by the name crow - both to distance himself from his past, and because if someone were to want to control or destroy him now as a skinwalker, they could do so if they knew his true, personal name. as such, a nickname seemed the safest bet. 

➣➣ fastforward to present day (1x01). after a few years of cashiering and attempting to rent rooms and apartments without success, as well as a stint playing guitar for an up and coming rock band, crow landed a job as a bartender at one of the local bars and instead of attempting to rent rooms or apartments, ended up moving into the trailer park. it was sketchy to say the least, but he couldn’t afford anything fancy and clearly didn’t handle having roommates well. a trailer seemed like the next best thing, outside of living in the woods or in his truck. his tendency to mind his own business and expect that of others meant that he mingled with normal purgatory residents and the revenants equally, pursuing his hedonistic nature as he pleased. which was all well and good, until things began to get... a lot more chaotic due to a curse and an heir he had originally had no knowledge of.

4. How easy is it to earn their trust?

This is….kind of a complicated question. It’s not exactly easy, but it’s not necessarily overly hard either. It mostly just requires patience like getting an animal to warm up to you would. She’s a bit slow to get comfortable around people, but she’ll warm up pretty easily over time. 

5. How easy is it to earn their mistrust?

This is probably far easier than earning her trust in the first place. If she gets to a point where she thinks you are a safe person to be around and that you won’t hurt her in any way and then you do, that’s going to unravel a lot. 

21. Why do they get up in the morning? 

Habit, mostly. To some degree, she is a bit of a creature of routine. Growing up there was always at least a little bit of structure to her days. She has always been motivated by survival, though admittedly her life with the party currently has brought out a lot of her bright and more personable nature that gives her more reason to want to keep going through these motions outside of just her usual drives. 

22. How does jealousy manifest itself in them (they become possessive, they become aloof, etc)? 

She doesn’t tend to get jealous often, but if she were I think it would come out in similar ways to her pride. She could be a little bit petulant and starts trying to prove that she’s better than whoever it is she is jealous of. 

37. Do they have a system for remembering names, long lists of numbers, things that need to go in a certain order (like anagrams, putting things to melodies, etc)? 

She doesn’t necessarily have a perfect system, but Keithia does have something of a knack for remembering things. She tends to have a lot of mental lists of things. One the keep is built, however, she will probably have an area of her room that will just essentially be a conspiracy wall where she tries to keep all of her thoughts straight. 

H) What trait do you admire most?

In a strange way….her naivete. I admire that innocent, childlike mindset she also has and I feel a bit bad about the fact that I’m going to have to let it be ripped away from her. Alternatively, her kindness.

3) How do they put themselves to bed at night (reading, singing, thinking?)

She probably does a round of training, then has a hot bath, and then sits around and reads or writes for a little bit until she lets herself go into her trance.

13) What color do they think they look best in? Do they actually look best in that color?

I think she probably looks best in deep colors. Blues, purples, reds. However, she also has an affinity for yellow. She doesn’t necessarily think much about what colors look best on her though. She just tends to throw on whatever she has.

27) What causes them to feel dread?

Not much. Her life is pretty simple, outside of the usual high school hijinks. However, anything that looks like it’s going to cause trouble for her friends makes her worried.

28) Would they prefer a lie over an unpleasant truth? 

Not generally. She’d rather know the truth and get on with it as opposed to be ignorant. 

35)  How do they treat the things their friends come to them excited about? Are they supportive?

Caela is always very encouraging of her friends’ interests, especially Celandine. Even when she does not understand a single thing that they are saying, she will smile and listen and try to engage them however she can. 

A) Why are you excited about this character?

I get excited about how both her setting and her personality is so much different from Keithia and Araseli. She’s not out to save the world, she is just trying to get through high school. She’s not a femme fatale type like Araseli or a kind hearted survivalist like Thia, she’s just this energetic, kind of tomboyish, very mom-friendy teenaged girl. It’s a nice shift from the more high stakes games sometimes and her dynamic with her friends is a lot of fun to play with, especially when compared to the friends of circumstance we get in the other games.

8) What were they told to stop/start doing most often as a child?

Mostly Araseli was always told to keep herself out of the way. To be quiet, stay hidden, and not draw attention to herself. She always hated that and still very much resents it.

9) Do they swear? Do they remember their first swear word?

Depends on the situation. She typically tries to carry herself in a very ladylike way, but if she gets angry she can definitely start swearing a lot. 

21) Why do they get up in the morning? 

Vengeance and resentment, which are really not good motivators for anything, but she has been holding onto them for so long that she’s not likely to let them go now.

26) What is their preferred mode of transportation? 

By magic, if it is an option. Otherwise, often by carriage escorted by whoever she has tricked into helping her at the time. Her favourite not magical form of travel, however, is by ship. 

41) How do they feel about children?

She doesn’t dislike them, but she’s also not overly fond of them. Some of them don’t bother her, but in general they seem to be a lot of trouble and though she feels some sympathy towards a few that she has come across, she would never want to be saddled with a child herself. 

F) What do you feel when you think of your OC (pride, excitement, frustration, etc)?

In some ways, challenged. I enjoy playing villains, even though it’s a bit harder and counter to my nature. I am also excited about that, however. She is so different from my other characters and the way that can play out is intriguing to me.

Modual: Kickstarter (Days 4 and 5)

The morning of Modual day 4 began with presentations of each group’s mood board. I was the only member of my group in London while the other three were in Glasgow so we presented over Fuze, a virtual meeting room. My group and I explained the vision for the project -- since the concept was still fairly new to my group members I took the lead on outlining the specifics. I made sure to pay close attention to the men in the room as I was presenting since this topic has proven to be somewhat eyebrow raising to that demographic. Earlier in the year when this project was more about men and makeup, whenever I would speak to straight men about my intentions they usually seemed uncomfortable or at best, skeptical. I would share this with tutors, classmates and friends who all pointed out that the word ‘makeup’ was probably what was throwing them. A key part of Thursday’s presentation outlined the intention to change the terminology and rename makeup so that a larger group of people will become comfortable with the idea of using it, whether that’s on their faces, bodies, or entirely different canvases. 

After every group across London and Glasgow presented their mood boards (I think there were 16 or 17 in total) everyone was given three stickers. We were instructed to put our stickers on the mood boards of the project ideas that interested us the most. I chose my own project, a fellow Applied Imagination student’s project on making the circular economy more creative, and a project that would involve putting plastic into a vending machine and having it come out as a piece of art. The guidelines were that each mood board would have to receive enough interest between London and Glasgow to continue as a full-fledged project that would go ahead for the rest of the workshop. Ultimately, my project garnered enough attention and interest to become one of the final seven. 

I’m now part of a team of eight students, two of us are in London and six are in Glasgow. It’s extremely reassuring once again to see that people believe in my project idea to the point that they’ll dedicate a week of their time to making it stronger and eventually launch it on Kickstarter. 

For the rest of Thursday my project group and I communicated over Appear In, another virtual meeting room. Here we are:

We went through the Six Thinking Hats exercise as it pertained to this project. The Six Thinking hats is a technique I actually tried earlier in the year in a separate workshop with former MA Applied Imagination students Cvetana and Jean Jacques. The system was designed by Edward de Bono and describes a tool for group discussion and individual thinking involving six colored hats. We focused on four of the six hats. 

The Yellow Hat - this hat symbolizes brightness and optimism. Under this hat you explore the positives and probe for value and benefit.

The Black Hat - this hat is judgment, the devil’s advocate or why something may not work. Spot the difficulties and dangers; where things might go wrong. Probably the most powerful and useful of the hats but a danger if overused. 

The Green Hat - this hat focuses on creativity; the possibilities, alternatives and new ideas. It’s an opportunity to express new concepts and new perspectives.

The Red Hat - this hat signifies feelings, hunches and intuition. When using this hat you can express emotions and feelings and share fears, likes, dislikes, loves and hates.

The Tool Kit

Simply Apply

The Tool Kit was born out of a desire to assign credibility and substance to makeup, a medium that is generally viewed as something strictly superficial. We believe that makeup has the power to improve communication and understanding between couples, families, friends, and one’s self. During the course of participating in various creative and communicative activities, those in close relationships will form even deeper bonds while creating expressive artwork. Through this process we hope that the perceptions of what makeup is, who it’s for and how it can be used will change for the better.

Tool Kit complete with built-in storage and canvases

Using a Silhouette Machine, we will create a pattern designed for recycled cardboard which will be printed out on Tinkercad. The pattern will be turned into a tool kit with built-in storage. The tool kit and smaller storage boxes within can be kept together or taken apart to be used as canvases for makeup.

A Mirror

The multipurpose mirror can be used by participants who choose to engage with The Tool Kit on their own; creating a makeup look on the face or body while looking in a mirror establishes a relationship, collaboration, and communication with one’s self. The mirror can alternatively function as a canvas for those on their own or in pairings who would prefer to create with the makeup on a 2D surface rather than on their own face or body. Once complete, the artist can choose to view their creation (or declaration inspired by a question card) as a piece of art on its own or take it a step further by looking in the mirror and including their reflection in their art piece. Meaningful Question Cards

Four decks of cards with meaningful questions will be included in The Tool Kit, one for couples, one for friends, one for families, and one for a solo participant. The questions are designed to be asked while participants are applying the makeup to themselves, each other, the canvases from the box, or the mirror. As questions are asked the makeup will develop, which will ultimately result in a final conversation and makeup look. The questions will also be deeper than what we generally ask the people who are closest to us, whether that’s because we’re afraid or just too busy to stop to have a meaningful conversation. Makeup Look Cards 

The makeup cards will provide inspiration for makeup looks that participants can create on themselves and each other.

The Makeup

The tool kit will include a range of versatile makeup, face paints and brushes. The packaging and branding will be eco-friendly and gender-neutral and product names will not refer to makeup specifically. For example, what we know as a lipstick will be named something like “Big Red Stick” and the product won’t have to only be used on the lips. It can also be applied to the cheeks, eyes, body and 2D canvases.
