Hello! I recently discovered your blog and really love the thought you’ve put into the nuances of the SHC system. I’m super into these kinds of personality analysis systems (I’ve probably been through them all at this point) because I think it’s interesting to know how people tick - I also think self-awareness is important so that you know why you do what you do, essentially. I took the SHC quiz and it told me I was a Snake Primary with a Bird Model, and a Bird Secondary with a Snake Model. I agree that I’m probably a (somewhat petrified) Snake Primary with a strong Bird Model, but I’m not sure which is my true secondary and which is the model. Maybe you can help?

Some things about me: I’m an oldest daughter, and I’m almost 100% sure my dad is a Bird Snake and I *idolized* him as a child - I thought he had it all figured out. He was the Zeus to my Athena in my child’s eyes, and I think I got my Bird primary model very early from copying him.

I mean, I know what you mean in a “sole creator” sense, but there is no *way* Athena thought Zeus had it all figured out.

My two younger brothers are a Lion Snake and a Lion Badger, and my mother is possibly a Double Badger, though I’m not as sure about her - maybe she just thinks that she *should* be a Double Badger. I think all that is important to help illustrate that I didn’t really feel *at home* when I was with my family, though I loved them, since I was the only Snake. My parents also had a terrible relationship and are now divorced, so there’s that as well. I think the only time I have ever been truly morally outraged was the revelation that my dad had engaged in infidelity against my mom, and then again when he started dragging his feet over a promise the he had made my youngest brother. We didn’t speak for a long time after that incident, but I was really cut up over dropping him.

Oh yeah. That’s very Snake primary. Morally outraged because your People are getting hurt.

We eventually started to reconcile, and the only reason we did was because he called and said he was driving through my city one day, and even after all of that, I said yes to meeting up because I felt sad that I had dropped him. I think this family dynamic, plus some other childhood stuff, led to me sort of “checking out” and petrifying pretty early.

Just a theory - I think it’s possible that this hit your secondary more than it hit your primary. You seem pretty strong and confident in your Snake primary so far. Even the fact that you can identify it coming from such a non-Snake environment, and don’t feel guilty about it, is big.

and generally ended up with like one friend who was the other weird girl, and who I always sort of kept at arm’s length emotionally. I moved schools several times as a kid and after the first best friend (who was the daughter of my mom’s best friend and was like a sister to me until she moved away), I really didn’t try too hard to make new “best” friends.

Hmm. See, this reads like a *default* friend to me, not a friend of choice. The other weird girl. The daughter of your mom’s friend. That’s an easy friend to have… and not one that you necessarily sought out. I’m not surprised that your primary didn’t latch onto her with that Snake intensity.

Even now, though I definitely have concentric circles of loyalty and a significant other who is my “top person”, I’m not sure I have that blind Snake I-would-literally-die-for-you loyalty toward anyone - I’d kill or hide a body for my top circles

That *is* Snake loyalty. Snakes aren’t going to die for someone else, are you kidding? That’s a sucker’s game. They value themselves too much.

I would give up a lot of my own comfort for my significant other. Maybe I’m just afraid to let myself feel that unquestioning loyalty, though I want to feel it, or maybe I’m really a Bird and just want to be a Snake because that would mean I could be un-broken eventually.

Let’s talk about your secondary, I want to hear about how you think you’re broken, because so far you seem fine. Congrats on the SO!

I don’t think I’m an Idealist though - I’m surrounded by them and I know I don’t care about “principles” the way they do. Then again, maybe I’m a Bird whose truth is that moral relativism is the truth lol. Anyway, I think for my primary, I’m probably a petrified Snake with a Bird model unless I’m totally wrong about myself.

I think you’re just a Snake who… is a Snake.

As for my secondary, I loved to read (everything - all kinds of fiction, especially sci-fi/fantasy/mystery and, like, Victorian sci-fi/horror adventures, nature books, medical texts, etc. Wikipedia was a revelation when it came out), and I was smart and good at taking tests and knowing the answers in school, so at a certain point I think I just defaulted to being “the smart one” and used that as armor to help keep people from getting too close.

I do genuinely love to learn, and I’ve always been known among friends and family as the one who either knows the answer or will look it up. I love pop culture trivia and nature facts. I also love and am good at debate, but not really when real feelings are involved - I more love the “battle of wits” aspect, where I can match up against a person to see if my knowledge and ability to adapt my argument on the fly can stump them. 

I also would argue the unpopular point, or the point I didn’t agree with, just for sport. Fun Bird secondary model.

I developed terrible anxiety and probably some depression as well in high school.

and now that I’m older, I suspect that I may have ADHD, though I haven’t been officially assessed. I didn’t discover my executive function issues really until college, when suddenly being smart and being able to figure out the test answers through context clues and what I remembered from lectures and readings + whatever trivia I had gathered about the topic wasn’t enough anymore.

I suspect you’re right about being ADHD. Or at least being neruodivergent.

I am horrible at studying! I would plan out my study sessions and make these nice little cheat sheets (these were allowed on exams) and they didn’t work at all! I did very well in my literature minor though, because all the graded assignments were papers rather than open-answer tests, and I could get my thoughts out better and with more resources at my disposal if I forgot something and needed to go back to the book to check.

Oh ouch. Yeah, I’m not even relating this back to a secondary, because I’m reading this as a working memory thing? Like ugh tests are such a terrible way access knowledge. What is even the *point* of memorization anymore? You should have been able to have a college career that was completely writing papers, like I did.

I was at one point very jealous of my Lion Snake brother, who I felt could do “whatever he wanted” with minimal consequences, while I always felt constrained by being “good” and not rocking the boat too much with my family.

Yep. That’s being an oldest daughter.

I couldn’t understand why he didn’t seem to care about being considerate to everyone else in the household (especially my chronically overworked, can’t-say-no Badger mom lol).

It’s because he’s the youngest. Mine’s the same.

This attitude was definitely influenced by my anxiety issues at that time, since I had (and still have) a lot of trouble asking for anything - help, permission, whatever. I’d rather do things and explore on my own, without anyone watching, so I don’t have to ask and don’t have to explain.

Did you low-key raise your younger siblings? Because it sounds like you raised your siblings.

I feel better with a little bit of distance, and definitely wear masks in most situations. I’d say my masks are half conscious and half reactive - I do have some idea of how I’d like to be perceived, but it’s only kind of systematic.

That makes me think Snake or Badger secondary.

I have a few “characters” that I use as touchpoints when I’m going into a new situation, but once I’m there I mostly just act nice and funny and see what happens.

So far I’m going with Badger secondary (be nice and and assume it’ll be fine is very badger) with a fun Bird secondary model, that you can do an Actor Bird thing with. Although liking to “just see what happens” is pretty snake.

The characters are really just costumes I use to give off a certain first impression, although I do really like the costumes and find them fun. I love clothes, makeup, and perfume too, because I enjoy the idea of making multidimensional costumes for different settings. I actually enjoy the mask a lot of the time - I have tattoos that are purposefully in places that I can cover easily, because I enjoy the idea that there’s something under the professional mask that people only know about if I show them. I’m a bit socially awkward I think (I repeat myself and talk a lot), but most people tend to either like me or tolerate me, and I don’t get into a lot of interpersonal conflicts. 

Hm. Either Courtier Badger or Snake secondary, fun Bird secondary model. However. Especially after talking about your Actor Bird in such fun, positive, happy language… I am going to call you out for “socially awkward” and “people tolerate me.” Which tells me you don’t have as much faith in your social skill set, and it’s *maybe* a little burnt.

(Also, not to get too armchair psychologist tell-me-about-your-mother, but if your mom has a  “chronically overworked, can’t-say-no” Badger secondary… that’s going to affect how you see Badger secondaries.)

Right now I work in a very Badger/Bird workplace, and it’s really a terrible fit, even though I can squeak by enough to fool my superiors into thinking I’m doing a good job. 

oh we’ve got some imposter syndrome, that can also be a burnt secondary thing.

It’s all long-term planning and daily maintenance tasks, and I really don’t like it. I change most of my plans partway through, but I’m not sure if it’s because I’m really an improvisational secondary at heart, or if I’m truly a Bird that’s just bad at planning for all of the variables.

I’m going to say you’re not a Bird. Making cheat-sheets (which is a very Bird secondary strategy) also did not work, and you feel confined by, not comforted by plans. You’re not a Lion, you enjoy keeping your true self to yourself too much. You could be either a Badger or Snake. And if you really hate daily maintenance tasks… that could be coming from a few places, but it makes me lean Snake. 

I love being in situations where I can iterate on a plan, or make a new plan on the fly. I love escape rooms and am pretty good at them; I still get stumped and need hints sometimes, but when I *get* a puzzle, it sort of just clicks for me? I don’t think in a very linear way and am not a good chess player, but I also have never studied chess so perhaps I just am at a knowledge disadvantage in that game. 

This is also you using Bird to have fun, and we know you *love* using Bird to have fun.

okay this is definitely going to be helpful

was when I was on a day trip with my significant other, and we needed to find a place to buy food quickly so we wouldn’t miss a specific ferry and then a specific bus - we were on an island, and near the ferry station the restaurants were all too expensive and we were worried they would take too long anyway. He was starting to get frazzled, but I was able to think on my feet, and we just grabbed a calming beer (lol) at a creepy neighborhood bar, then got on the ferry and bought microwave meals at a 7-Eleven by the bus station. It was awesome and I was very proud of myself for staying calm and looking around myself for options.

Well that is VERY Snake secondary.

I generally take a long time making decisions when it’s not a crisis situation, because I have to *weigh all the options*, but I often end up in analysis paralysis. Crunch time is where I really shine as a decision-maker.

Snake again. From what I’m seeing, your Bird is a fantastic toy, but actually kind of makes you miserable when you have to depend on it for the important stuff. (studying, your job, making important decisions)

All of this long post is to say, I’m not sure whether my Bird secondary is a fun model that got repurposed into an executive dysfunction compensation tool and anxiety/depression soother to supplement my Snake secondary

oh your favorite characters are Snake secondaries are they? That’s a big tell.

and that I use when I fail to plan adequately given my executive dysfunction. 

Executive dysfunction is a whole thing, but you don’t have to “”plan adequately”” for everything.

I find both fun and both useful, but I’m not sure which is innate and which is the model! 

My money is on snake secondary, Bird secondary model.

Chiba and Kurahashi Friendship Headcanons

How they address each other: It used to be "Chiba-chan and Kurahashi-san" at first. But literally less than a week after they started to hang out more, they began addressing each other as "Ryuuchan and Hinano".

They make up the 2/6 of the moodmaker line in the class (the other four being Okajima, Nakamura, Maehara, and Kayano.)

But instead of doing things like cracking jokes or pulling actually funny pranks, they were considered as moodmakers of the class because the energy they carry around them is contagious, especially when they interact. One just can't help but to smile at the sight of two happy people happily talking to each other.

Flowers basically bloom and light up the room the moment these two smiley kids began walking towards each other, what more if they began talking 😭

Surprisingly, it was Chiba who initiated the friendship, or at least started approaching Kurahashi which soon led to them being friends.

At first it was just for things like reminding her about certain school works or usually being the first to answer Kurahashi's questions if she has any. Then it slowly transitioned to Chiba casually joining into group conversations until it had come to the point where he initiates a conversation with her instead.

Of course it didn't take long until Kurahashi started to approach him first herself, especially since she has always been reciprocal to Chiba's approaches.

This is one of the main reasons why Chiba likes talking to her, the fact that she returns the sentiment with the same, or even more energy. It was the first time someone had not been once hesitant towards him and it made him incredibly happy knowing that there is actually someone who doesn't judge him for his appearance.

He actually almost teared up when Kurahashi once remarked that he's not as scary as some people claim him to be.

There's a very wide range of topics that they converse about, as they have differing interests yet still don't mind listening to the other.

Especially since Chiba is one not to be shy about having to listen to "girly" topics, as his family comprises of mostly women which may have gotten him used to hearing such topics growing up, and may even possibly be interested in them himself.

So like if Kurahashi was looking at a fashion magazine and asked him if a certain outfit would look good on her or not, expect that Chiba can easily give her a solid answer, sometimes even recommend other fits he'd seen in the magazine to her instead.

Chiba: "Ahh my sisters were looking at the same copy this morning and there's a cute dress here I think you'd like, Hinano! :D"

Kurahashi: "Omg can you show me?? :D"

Chiba has been long aware about Kurahashi's crush admiration towards Karasuma before it became obvious to the whole class. He would totally let her ramble or even complain to him regarding Karasuma, never interrupting her, then successfully consoles her whenever it shows that she needs it.

Kurahashi: "Karasuma-sensei seemed so distant from us :("

Chiba: "He's even busier these days... Don't worry too much about it, Hinano. Who knows, he might have actually wanted to join us but can't have the time to because of how much work he has to do."

Kurahashi: "... yeah you're right! I hope it gets better for him soon then so we all can hang out together :D"

[This conversation totally happened in canon. You cannot convince me otherwise].

Chiba offhandedly mentioned once that he has a whole family of cats and it led to Kurahashi inevitably visiting his place on the same day just to see the cats.

You can imagine the shock written on his mother's face when she saw her son bringing such a cute and sweet girl who claimed to be his friend to their home that day.

Of course, she ended up adoring Kurahashi a lot not long after. Chiba already expected this from his mother and so wasn't even the least embarrassed that she kept approaching Kurahashi even for the tiniest things (unless he was the topic oh lord).

Naturally, among his sisters, Kurahashi got along with Yuko (youngest sister) the most, as they have very similar personalities and instantly clicked.

She wasn't able to meet Kohaku (second youngest sister) that day, as she was apparently staying at a friend's place. But Chiba was sure that they'd also get along.

There are two adult cats living in the Chiba residence. The male cat, which is the eldest, is pretty much attached to Chiba as they have been together since he was 7 years old. Yuko basically claimed their female cat, who recently had given birth to plenty of kittens.

While Kurahashi was busy cooing over the cute kitties, Rena (the eldest sister), who had just got home from club activities, approached her brother and remarked: "I already find it hard to believe that you actually got a girlfriend but oh wow I didn't think she'd be this cute."

Chiba: "That's not her 😐"

Chiba would actually fight anyone who dares to assume that his relationship with Hinano goes beyond being good friends. It felt so nice to have such a genuine friend and he doesn't want anyone to ruin that with their assumptions.

Maehara: "Oho? Kurahashi went to your place yesterday??"

Chiba: "Yeah she did and you better not have any weird thoughts about it or I'll deck you."

And don't even get me started with their shopping adventures 💔. Their friendship has come to a point that if Kurahashi's circle of friends aren't available on a day when she wants to go shopping with them, she can easily invite Chiba instead without having any second thoughts.

The first time it happened, she was mildly surprised that Chiba knows his way through the shopping district and would even take the lead in certain locations as if he had been there often enough to seemingly memorize the whole place.

Kurahashi: "There's a huge sale today but everyone has plans after school... ;-;"

Chiba: "Hmm? I'm free today, Hinano. Will you be okay with having me instead?"

Kurahashi: ":D"

Chiba always offers to carry their shopping bags (yes he always ends up shopping for himself as well lol) and Kurahashi is the one who suggests places for them to rest or eat at after spending a long time walking from one store to another.

While they are resting or eating, they would still have lots to talk about.

Actually, there was almost never a time where they're not chatty together. It was as if the moment one sees the other, there is already a topic in their minds that they want to talk about. So yeah, the room is never quiet with them together lol.

Some stuffs I thought about them because I love them and their friendship so much omg.

I like to think that Kurahashi is Chiba's natural social battery, as in she easily brings out the once rarely seen bubbly side of him the moment she gives him a smile. And I also like to think that Chiba is clinging onto the fact that there is someone who actually genuinely likes his company, which is why being with Kurahashi makes him so happy that his smile had gotten so wide without him realizing it 💔

Digimon Adventure: 2020 – Episode 32: Soaring Hope (Review)

Thoughts on the thirty-second episode of the Digimon Adventure reboot series.

Well, what a surprise! This was actually a pretty good episode.

The sound of Patamon running is so cute. And how he just plops over from exhaustion. XD; He actually might be my favourite Digimon in the reboot, lol.

Sora and Taichi came to the rescue in a pretty dynamic way! I loved it. The episode opened so great and got my attention right away. :D

YAMATO!!! I’m so happy to see you. :D Yamato: “I see, so you were able to join them. Were you hurt, Takeru?” Takeru: “I’m fine, but Patamon’s . . .” Agumon: “Patamon looks in pain.” Piyomon: “What’s wrong?” Taichi: “It’s probably the damage from fighting DarkKnightmon.” Yamato: “Takeru. I’m sure Patamon will get well soon. Until then, you stay by Patamon’s side.” Takeru: “Yeah! I will, Big Brother!” Yamato: “Taichi, I leave Takeru to you.” Now, on paper, this exchange seems good . . . but Yamato’s voice actor sounds really “off”? He honestly sounds like he doesn’t care about Takeru, LOL. Which is certainly a change from OG Yamato - who would be losing his damn shit right now. XD; I’m not sure if there’s “more to the story” and Yamato sounds “distracted” (more like disinterested, LOL) for a reason and we’ll find out later? Or this was a weird performance from the voice actor. Or the series really is making Yamato less of an overprotective brother. But it was really odd to me.

LMAO Mimi started a Digimon fight club!? XD; But OG Mimi was such a pacifist. XD;

Jou . . . is still just a joke and the series honestly thinks it’s doing him favours? Sigh. I really don’t like him.

Koushirou tags in to remind us all that he’s still just an info-dump bot. And he’s still going on about a threat that no one (us) cares about. Yawn. This better lead somewhere (to actual on-screen relevance/impact) . . .

LMAO Master Jedi Lopmon astral projects himself into Patamon’s dreams - Oh hello! I didn’t think we’d be seeing you again so soon. I really liked the whole sequence, though. Nicely done.

Why are Taichi and Sora peeking in on Takeru and Patamon? lol. Did they really need privacy here? How respectful of them - except not, because they’re still peeking in. XD;

Takeru and Patamon’s exchange ending with Takeru telling Patamon that he’ll always be by his side was super cute. I loved the story he shared about Yamato helping him swim. This is actually the material we love and need - and not Taichi fighting enemy #7872. Please, Toei, realise this? This is what keeps people engaged and interested in the story and its characters.

Forget the puny Fangmons, Cerberumon is a beast! He looks like a better, cooler, more awesome version of Garurumon! I wouldn’t mind if Yamato had him as his partner Digimon, haha. XD

The series has shown us that Agumon is able to Mega evolve at very little cost - and at pretty short intervals. Why doesn’t he just do so against an Ultimate Digimon? Is a non-Mega not worthy enough for him to Mega evolve against? XD; I know, I know, plot. But this is an issue I have with the series. It doesn’t do a good job at handling Digimon levels and threat levels in general. Everything just comes down to plot convenience in a lazy way. And yes, I’m complaining too much, so I’ll stop. XD;

MY POOR BABY SORA! They always take her out. :( Well, I just remember her frozen leg, lol. But of course she looks like she’s seriously injured, while Taichi also gets hit, falls, but still manages to have enough strength to hang onto the side. Yeah. He’s fucking Superman.

Awww, I really liked Patamon remembering his past and how much Takeru means to him. It was great. The Takeru/Patamon stuff this episode is A+ material.

But Pegasusmon was totally unexpected to me! I had a bit of a “jump the shark” feeling because of how much I didn’t think that could happen. XD; But it’s cool, I liked it. Rodeo Gallop totally should have killed Takeru or at least make him dizzy, though. XD;

Next episode preview: We’re going back to The Taichi Show? -_-; The main focus better be Hikari, though!

I enjoyed this episode a lot more than the last several episodes. It’s amazing how interesting the show is when it’s not just The Taichi Show (centered around a dull, generic, action hero protag). I’ve even accepted Takeru’s heightened courage and I’ve gone back to thinking he’s a cutie and liking him again. :P His bond with Patamon is really endearing. The flying pig is just too cute for words.

I know next episode “looks” like it should mostly be about Hikari, but as Taichi’s involved . . . I am prepared to go back to The Taichi Show again. Sigh. Please hurry up and reunite all the kids again, Toei. My interest can only wane so low.

ahhhh thank you, anon, you’re too kind! i don’t study gfx design, but i really want to! it’s just one of the hobby that i’m very passionate about. :D honestly, i don’t think my work looks that professional so i’m glad you like them lol a lot of my mutuals here are my inspiration (here’s a post with me rambling abt them) so i’ll actually talk about older ‘famous’ graphic designers! i really love reading about them and drawing inspo from their works. there’s still a lot for me to learn so some info is a little bit off!

1. Saul Bass - one of the most prolific graphic designers. if you don’t know who he is, you’ll most likely have seen his works. he is known for logos for brands like: at&t, kleenex, boys & girls club. however i personally really love his movie posters. 

2. Josef Müller-Brockmann - he’s one of the designers that established the swiss style of graphic design. his works are extremely minimalistic (one of the point of swiss style!), utilizes the grid system and sans serif. he’s the total opposite in term of my style versus his. his works really inspires me to be more minimalistic!

(honestly i really admire and respect all of the pioneers in the swiss style of graphic design so armin hofmann and ernst keller are also my favs)

3. Milton Glaser - known for his extremely colorful posters and his I ❤️ NY logo. his style looks outdated but it’s still really charming in its on way. really bold and adventurous in his works. some his works here. i will always love that poster for mostly mozart film festival and there’s 6 panels of mozart, and the ones in the middle is him sneezing. idk why but i find it so charming lol

 Kirielle, Kirielle & Zorian:

If you want to focus on Kirielle’s relationship with someone who isn’t Zorian, for Kirielle and Nochka, they’re adorable and I’d love a further development of their friendship, especially getting to see it grow and develop over the months and years after the invasion.  If you want to write about Kiri and Zach, these two seem to have a lot of fun teaming up against Zorian lol, I really enjoy their dynamic and how they play off each other.  For Kirielle and Zorian, I love their dynamic!  And again here I’d really enjoy seeing their relationship developing in real time, rather than a constantly looping world.  I think it would be great to see either of them defending the other to their parents—and maybe Zorian ends up with custody of Kiri, there’s definitely things to explore there.

For Kirielle by herself, I’d love some sort of character study—what does she do now that the time loop is over?  She’s growing up into a war; will she be a mage?  An artist?  Something else?  Alternatively—what if she got pulled into the loop; what would it be like to grow older while still looking nine?

 Zach, Zach & Neolu:

Assuming you don’t go for a setting AU, I’d generally prefer something set at least in part after the time loop begins, but beyond that I don’t have a strong preference for where in the timeline this might be set.  Maybe something from before Zorian got looped in—maybe one of the iterations where Zach and Neolu just went off across the country having fun the whole month? Zach doing whatever, possibly very early on, or maybe him freaking out a little because what the hell, time travel is supposed to be impossible, and yet—what did he do in the start?

Or for post-canon, I’d really like an exploration of Zach, who’s got the lived-time of a middle-aged man and the body of a teenager—how does he relate to his classmates/other people in the real world, where everyone’s growing again?  Maybe something about his lawsuit against his caretaker, or just a little thing with him, Zorian, and How Do You Live Normally, Again?  This Is Hard, or some such thing.

 Raynie & Kiana:

Me? Latching onto a minor character in a big sprawling canon? It’s more likely than you think!

Anyway I like Raynie a lot; we don’t get a whole lot on her, but what we do get paints her as someone who’s having a very interesting life of her own, utterly divorced from the timeloop shenanigans (except re: the shifter children thing).

I like her and Kiana’s friendship, too; I like how when we finally see more of them both we learn more about how they’re similar and different.

For specific prompts, if you want to go pre-canon I’d really love something with her initial going to Cyoria and how she befriended Kiana in the first place (or, perhaps more likely, how Kiana befriended her; I somehow doubt that Raynie age 13, recently semi-exiled from her tribe, was particularly in search of outsider friends).

For post-canon, really, anything dealing with the fallout of all the things that go down in the real world would be fantastic too.

 Alanic & Silverlake, Alanic & Xvim:

I’ve grouped these because they both have to do with Alanic, but really they’re not very similar prompts.

For Alanic and Silverlake I’d be very interested in something to do with Alanic’s backstory; Silverlake knew him as a young necromancer, so… what happened there?  How did they know each other?  Why was Alanic set on becoming a necromancer; clearly he got far enough to have soul sight himself—how’d he get that?  Why did he leave the necromancer’s path to become a priest?

For Alanic and Xvim, I dunno, this seemed fun?  They’re both part of the “annoying but ultimately helpful teacher” club to Zorian, and they get along well with each other—gonna admit I don’t fully remember what goes down for them in the final, real-world iteration, but.  They’re both a lot of fun and they play off each other well; just go wild here.  I’m down for it if you are.

You could set it in the summer, before shit goes down in the climax; or you could set it after—they’re going after January, of course.  What happens when they finally catch up to her?  What do they do?  How do they all process the relevant emotions of having been betrayed?  Do we catch a redemption arc?

 Mike & Sam:

These two are such good friends!  I like their friendship a lot, and I’d love to see more of it.  Something fun would be pre-canon—how did they meet?  What led them to start their band?  How much traction does their band have, really? Or post-canon—even having forgiven her, it’s got to be a lot to deal with, your best friend turning out to not just be a princess, but a superhero princess, while you’re just… a groundskeeper’s son(?).

 Eleanor, Eleanor & Sam, Catherine & Eleanor & Sam:

Family times!  There’s a lot of tension and secrets here, have been for a long time; tell me how they come to deal with it all and learn to live with each other better than they have been before the film—or give me backstory! How did things end up spiraling this far down?

 January & Sam:

I’d love to have something dealing with January’s PoV on the events of the film, or Sam’s PoV on January; more fun with secrets and betrayals!  (Fun for the audience at least; maybe less fun for these two though.) They got pretty close, after all—how did that have January feeling?  Did she second-guess herself over that?  How about Sam—she was the one betrayed by her new friend, after all.  If you want to see me talking more about just January, check out my Yuletide letter here.

 Worldbuilding:

Okay, so, I really did like this movie, so I say this affectionately, but… to call the worldbuilding here flimsy would be to, well, imply that it had bothered doing any worldbuilding whatsoever, and that’s not quite accurate, now is it?  To be clear, I do think this was probably a good decision, given that the movie is dedicated to superhero funtimes, not How The Hell Is This Happening, but it does leave me with so very many questions. For being a movie all about royalty, this movie is almost allergic to actually engaging any of the politics it hints at, what with the presented sides being “monarchy good” and “terrorism is fine actually”; if you want to write about the politics of the world these characters live in, by all means go ahead! For example, how did they manage to be a Western European absolute monarchy all the way to the present day?  I’d love to see that, or anything like it really, explored.  Other worldbuilding I’d be interested in includes an exploration of the “gene” which… somehow… manifests exclusively in second-born children of royal bloodlines—does this include bastard children?  What counts as a royal bloodline?  What happens when one of the superhero royal children has to ascend the throne?  Why only the second-born?  Is it really genetic at all, or is it some sort of magic?  If not magic, then wtaf is going on in the genetics of this world, I have to know more.

Look, I’m a sucker for identity/disguise shenanigans, and I love gender disguises, and for all the books I read as a kid featuring girls disguising themselves as boys to do [insert restricted activity here], I never saw its natural inverse; this is a travesty and must be corrected for.  Anything playing into this whole trope/idea is just chef’s kiss, I promise you I’ll love it.

 Child Superhero & Their Concerned Supervillain Nemesis:

Another favorite dynamic of mine!  I love supervillains getting tricked into that semi-parental role where they’re like “hang on I may be a supervillain and a criminal but you’re a child where are your parents what are you doing here,” it’s quite possibly the Best dynamic I have yet encountered in superhero fiction… even if I haven’t actually encountered it all that much.

 Spellsword Mercenary & Mathemagician:

Okay, I’ll admit that I mostly nominated and requested this for the pun potential.  But I think there’s also quite a lot of implicit lore you could really dig into; what kind of world is this, where magic can be imbued in or used through swords, but can also be related to mathematics?  Tell me more about it!  How do these two know each other?  Are they both shamelessly, pundamentally invested in wordplay as well as their actual jobs?  If you’re looking for more plot-implying ideas, I would be super down if you wanted to map this onto one of my other origfic requests (but no pressure lol).

1. If you were an animal, what animal would you be and why?

× I'd be a cat, 100%. Cats are my love and my life, I've always wanted to be one, tbh (not in a furry type of way, but I feel like life would be easier if I was a cat, lmao). I love how cats take no shit and do whatever they want. They're very independent and individual and I'm all here for that.

2. What two anime characters or kpop idols are your type?

× Can I do both anime characters and kpop idols??

× As for anime characters, Jaeha from Akatsuki no Yona and Kirito from Sword Art Online are totally my type!!😍

× And in terms of kpop idols... omg,, how am I supposed to *only* name two?? Hmm, thinking about it, I guess not all of my biases are my "type" per se... but there's two that come to mind right now hhhh. One of them is Kevin Moon from The Boyz, he really ticks off (almost) every bullet point in my list for my "ideal type" and honestly, this list is freaking contradictory and has vvv high standards but Kevin is THAT boi, basically my imaginative ideal boyfriend personified. :') And the second one who I'd say is totally my type is Hwang Hyunjin from Stray Kids. I've always loved drawing him the most of all kpop idols and I still do tbh (but I can't fill my feed on my insta art account with JUST Hyunjin drawings,, you know,,,). His fashion!! I'm so here for it and vibe with it so well. Plus,,,idk,,, I feel like I could connect to him in some ways so ajxjsjdjjs yeah. There's just something about him and Kevin that inspires me so much, I really love these two bois.

× YES. I decided to name a few artists because I realize I've never talked about the artists whose artworks inspire me the most. They're all on Instagram, so I'll be naming their @'s

a.) @/shooky_dough: I'm probably not the only one who knows Nikki, hehe, but her art is SO amazing. She's got this really distinct style which I'd put into the category of semirealism. Her kpop fanart is soooo good and I used her tutorials to learn how to get better at sketching. If you look at the sketches I've been posting for the past few months on my insta art account, you'll notice that they're highly inspires by Nikki's art. She's definitely the artist I'm looking at most in terms of inspiration and improving on my own art.^-^

b.) @/angelganev: His art is sooo pretty. He does semirealism and I've found him by browsing through pinterest to find some art inspiration/references/tutorials. He also does drawing contests in which his followers can draw one of his work he selects in their own style and he gives a shout out to the ones he liked best. It's always interesting!!

c.) @/melmadedooks: This man can draw about ANYTHING, he's so talented. He used to draw lots of his 'dooks' and I've found him through seeing some of his works on pinterest (again, lol). I've actually redrawn two of his 'dooks' and posted them to my art account AND HE LIKED BOTH OF THEM, I WAS SO HAPPY OMG!!! He used to draw his dooks using only one coloured pencil, so I've also started experimenting with that and instead of using a graphite pencil, I used coloured pencils for my sketches and those gave off very different vibes that I really liked!!

d.) @/rezajeez: Probably *the* kpop fanartist I've been following for the longest of times. They are AMAZING!! They mainly do huge photorealistic portraits with INSANE details. It's funny actually, because their work is the complete opposite to shooky_dough's work. While Reza draws photorealism on a big surface (probably A3? maybe more??) and draws very detailed, Nikki focuses more on sketches/more semirealistic and "simplistic" art and it's usually drawn quite small, so seeing these opposites really broadens my horizon, I think^^

e.) Last but nor least, @/rossdraws: In my opinion, he's the modern day Bob Ross! His art is so freaking stunning, have you checked out his digital art landscape series?? The amount of talent this man holds in his pinky finger is more than I've got in my whole body like- OOF a huge inspiration to me!!~

4. If you could play any instrument, which would you play?

5. If you could choose one anime to live in, which one would you choose and why?

× Either Ouran High School Host Club or Your Lie In April. The first one is just so much fun and I'd love hanging out with the host club members and as for the latter,,, I just really want to be here for Kousei and help him through his anxiety because I know so well how it feels like and I also wish I could sing while he plays the piano, we'd be a great duo✊🏻😔 (I'm sorry, I couldn't choose one)

× Hmmm... that's a great question omg there's so many amazing choices I could make😭😭 But I think I'd go with Kirito, I just really really love him ahhhhh

7. Is there anything you would like to do but haven't because your friends/family didn't want to do it with you?

× There's actually a few things I could name... first, I really want to go bungee jumping (preferably from the Macau Tower, as it's the highest bungee jump in the world😍) but my fam and friends think I'm crazy for wanting to do this but I'm actually quite an adventurous person which probably not many people know about me, so I love doing stuff like that.✊🏻😂

× I would also really like to travel with friends... it's not that I dislike travelling with my mom and stepdad but whenever I can't take someone with me, I feel like such a child ??? idk,, never travelling (I wanted to say "without adults" but then I realized I AM an adult) on my own with friends and always tagging along with my parents kind of make me feel like I'm not independent or mature/grown-up for it. But I feel like none of my friends want to travel with me... most of them have a travel buddy already but I just... don't akdjsjs

× I'd definitely put food and water in the bag, my phone, earphones, a portable solar charger with a USB cable (so that my phone won't die and I could chill for however long I want while watching kpop mv's and then also use my phone to call for someone to rescue me from this island once I start running low on resources), all the books I still want to read, my art supplies and a few sketch books, some towels that I could use to lay on or use as blankets, a pillow and my teddy bear, and obviously a toothbrush and toothpaste, a hairbrush and a few hair ties and bobby pins (you don't want long sweaty hair stuck to your skin during a hot summer ewww), some soap to wash myself and my clothes, sunscreen and also some insect spray to keep the bugs away!! (it's a big bag, okay)

I have so much to say I’m not drafting this on tumblr lest it crash and I lose a soul-crushing amount of yelling into the void.

And, I gotta say, THIS episode is the reason I haven’t posted my adult rankings list yet. THIS RIGHT HERE. I KNEW some crap was gonna go down and force me to make some HUGE adjustments.

Also, We are feeling vindicated in this house today! But let’s start from the top and work our way down.

So is the arcade owner (Frank Dunford) relevant? Brennan had the name on hand. But maybe it was just him being a good worldbuilder and anticipating the question. I feel like it’s probably that because this is late in the game to be introducing new people who are super relevant.

I KNEW those arcade prizes were gonna be gear they could pick up! ALWAYS RAID THE ROOM. Some of that stuff might have helped in the fight. I loved the group silently reading the cards and exchanging them to whoever they thought it would help most in the background as Brennan did the ID spell.

“This has been, if I may say so, the *best* use of the identify spell.”

I love that Adaine thanks everyone, including her inanimate spells. She’s just a good person.

OK so this episode addressed a LOT of questions I had about how these literal children were getting away with all of these murders and such. Apparently, the adventuring academy kids traditionally just get away with this stuff because of Arthur’s influence and the nature of adventurers.

Adaine coming in hot with the diplomatic immunity and then remembering, oh wait, we’re at war w/ Falinel.

Fig immediately starting smoking when she gets arrested.

I love the federal agent outsider with perspective coming in and being rightfully horrified by the absolute nonsense that’s been going on the past 15 episodes.

Is Riz’s mom the only competent cop at this station? Is there a one competent adult per location rule?

Bill Seacaster Upon Learning the Bad Kids are In Jail: Did you try to escape?

Emily loses it whenever anything happens in Gilear’s orbit.

Wild that Adaine decided to spontaneously call Goldenhoard considering what happened later. Like, it wasn’t a completely out of nowhere decision and it was totally logical but they could have easily overlooked that decision. 

Like, I know things happen later that make this kinda moot but I loved Goldenhoard’s conversation with Adaine in jail. “Don’t to talk to anyone without a lawyer and kill anyone you have to to get out. The school will pay for the rezzes.”/“That’s exactly what our plan was. God, I love this school.”

Although, sidenote, I feel like you can only easily rez someone within a minute? Like, I know there are other D&D spells that let you do it after a longer period of time but with the whole phoenix egg thing and the fact that they haven’t come up so far, I feel like Brennan isn’t using the in this setting for stakes reasons.

Man that whole conversation with Fig and her mom. Emily plays Fig so balls to the wall that I kinda forget sometimes that she’s actually an intelligent adult woman who knows what she’s doing with the character so I really shouldn’t be surprised with how well she stuck the emotional beats of this episode.

Who is more insane? Gorgug for suggesting him and Fabian could be twins (aren’t they different ages????) or Bill for thinking he’s so awesome he could somehow do that?

Kristen trying to help FIg distract Bill by blurting out, “Have you ever had sex?” After the conversation where he said point blank he’s slept with 100s of orc women. 

Fabian yelling at his dad is kinda undercut by continuing to call him papa in the most poncy accent.

I don’t think I’ve articulated this properly before but this episode really drove it home: Fabian and Bill have a *close* relationship but not an entirely healthy one. Like, better than Adaine and her parents by leaps and bounds but he wrestled his son in a jail cell while his friends just watched. Like, who does that?

Imagine if Riz had tried to get between Bill and Fabian. 

Also imagine being the rest of the party just sitting there, watching that go down.

“We’ve spent so much of our lives obsessed with our dads and we’ve completely ignored our moms.”/“You’re just again talking about yourself.”

I can’t believe Fig’s suggestion spell would have worked if head boss in charge fed lady hadn’t been there. Speaking of her, as soon as she showed up I knew they weren’t going to be able to shenanigan their way out of this one (which is literally the word Emily used, hilariously). I don’t think even a nat 20 would have gotten them very far. Remember last week when I said that I was sure there was going to be a prom finale but I was also pretty sure there was still a good chunk of time before prom? As soon as they got arrested and the feds showed up I was like, “Oh they are not getting out until prom for sure.”

I love how Fabian rolls his eyes at Adaine for thanking her spells but he always thanks the Hangman.

Realistically the Hangman would have told Fabian the plan before it happened but the way it played out was soooo good.

The return of Mr. Cubby!!!! I was hoping it would be him but man! It was still so awesome to see happen. I wonder if Brennan introduced that family specifically in case the group ever needed to be busted out of jail (a likely need).

“You guys wanna make some bacon?”

“That was on fire the whole time? You’re so brave!” Adaine likes adults who aren’t her parents so much.

OK so they took a palimpsest from Bill in this episode. That was there to tip them off that he’s up to something I’m sure, but I feel like that could also turn out to be a Chekov’s gun for next ep. I’m sure the ability to trap someone’s should would be useful in the finale.

S/O to Brennan for his excellent foreshadowing throughout the episode and honestly the whole series.

Siobhan thinking to check the trash folder of his computer was a good move, even if it didn’t end up being the right one.

OK, strap in guys. This is where things get WILD.

Siobhan’s “Oh shit!” when she got halfway down the page of Watches and Wards and then that Harry Potter sounding sting in the background.

(Before I get any further, I love that Adaine’s first thought was well that means my sister isn’t Kal Vaxis because she thinks her sister is the root of all evil).

But WOW. After all the trash talking of the old oracle, it turns out Adaine is the new eleven oracle! And she has been since EPISODE ONE. I almost thought she was gonna be *that* elven oracle because of the questions the cast was asking but nope. It is, as Zac and Siobhan put it, a The Santa Clause situation where the last one dies and someone else gets the job.

Brennan’s faint amusement as they work through that is so good.

You know what’s kinda hilarious in hindsight about that? I said before that, so far, every person Adaine has pegged as trash has ended up being trash of the highest order and an enemy of the party and of course she’s been good at predicting things! She’s the literal oracle.

Am I reading this wrong or is the Religious Studies teacher name Yolanda Badgood?

Brennan going, “Nothing happens.”/“You see an upside down waste paper basket.” Is such a GM mood. I had a session once where I spent half an hour just saying, “You’re looking at the door,” in various ways.

No one knows what Goldenhoard’s name actually is and it’s the second to last episode.

I feel like Brennan must have gotten forehead/cheek kissed a lot as a child because he’s constantly having NPCs do it. 

Are elves in this setting actually immortal (barring being actually killed) or just long lived? Because Adaine talks like she’s immortal but I wasn’t sure. Anyway, newsflash Adaine. You’ve been mortal this whole campaign! Because apparently, the elven oracle always eventually dies. 

I love that Adaine finally confronted the oracle about sinking on a ship and actually ended up kinda sympathizing with her. I can’t believe this is how that running joke ends.

Fabian at the ghost of the past eleven oracle who’s imparting wisdom on Adaine: Who are you?

Ally: Can I do something weird? (Dude, when do you not?)

Ally mumbling through an inspiring spell as Murph clues in to the paperwork discrepancy that blows the plot twist wide open. And then miming the whole thing in the background as the scene goes on.

“He was mean so I thought that meant he was a good guy.” More stern than mean really but yeah! Same Murph!

You know how you know things are about to get real? When the DM starts letting you do stuff like bust down doors without even rolling for it because there are bigger fish to fry.

But in seriousness, Kal Vaxis (apparently it’s spelled Kalvaxus but I can’t be bothered to change that in this post) was apparently trapped by Arthur and bound to work at Aguefort (as Goldenhoard) because…he’s a wildcard I guess. Sidenote, can you imagine what this season might have looked like if Arthur hadn’t died? Or was that always the plan for him to die in some way? Like to resurrect an NPC maybe if the crew hadn’t lost 2 party members.

Man when he said last ep that the girls were going back to school I thought OK that makes sense because it’s the AV computer that Biz used or maybe it’s Penelope. But I totally overlooked teachers.

OK so the binding spell specifically says “as long as I live” and Arthur is dead. So….what does that mean exactly? And this plan seems to have been in motion from before Arthur died. What does that mean? Also, if that wording means he’s freed when Arthur dies, what was Arthur thinking killing himself???? Did he need Kristen to sneak him into heaven so he could talk to Sol and do some scheming or something? AHHHHH I have so many questions.

Also in the binding is a clause about tea. Now, first of all, Arthur, bro. Come on. Second of all, a lawyer really should have looked at that. “I will drink anything you give me”? I work at a law firm. I’m a lowly first year but even I know that’s a terrible thing to put in a contract. I’m sure y'all non lawyers know that too!

Karam-Kajam (the binding spell words) kinda looks like “magic maker” backwards. That doesn’t mean anything. I just wanted y'all to know I was freeze framing every thing that might be a clue.

OK ok ok, so I’ve been saying for a while now (in posts but mainly over chat) that all this bad stuff must be like connected to a central person in service of a central goal but the players were probably all unconnected wild cards acting in self interest. The one thing I couldn’t quite put together was what because these plots have been mainly unconnected. But now, we have it! All the weird things starting a war (by manipulating the harvestmen), getting 7 maidens (by manipulating Biz), and reinstating prom king/queen (by manipulating (?) Penelope and Dayne, also yes! my wild card guess was that prom king/queen was going to be part of a spell or curse or something. Guess it was prophecy but yes! vindication!) are parts of a prophecy on how to bring back Kalvaxis! (Along with him getting his “glittering treasure”?)

But yeah! No wonder it was so hard to put the pieces together! They all connected but only through a prophecy. Good job Bren!

“The sun shall fall from the heavens” is part of the prophecy which makes me think Sol or Helios might be involved in this somehow.

Ally: There are definitely going to be 7 virgins at prom. (That deserved a rim shot).

Good on Murph for making sure none of them were on the virgin list bc that would have been a pain in the ass to find out mid-fight. Also, I KNEW “Where are their bodies” was the question to ask last ep when Biz said they were going back to their bodies.

“Who told you that? An oracle?”

I hope Adaine just uses her oracle status to make sick one liners like, “I predict this is gonna hurt,” before she witchbolts someone. She never does her actual job. 

Adaine who hates her family, righteously indignant: Between our houses and the world, you expect us to choose our houses?

The rest of the group who loves their family: BYEEEEE.

Well, no. Kristen also had reservations before she remembered her brothers existed.

Adaine texting her mom: You should probably leave.

Siobahn and Ally fistbumping over their mutual not caring about their parents.

OK so what’s up with the rat? What’s so important about the rat? And what’s up with Zayne? We still haven’t figured out what’s up with him.

Still not clear on if the crystals trap your physical body or just your spirit and leave your physical body dormant irl.

So that’s how they got rid of the adults for the fight. Nice job again Brennan.

As far as I can tell, Brennan made up this usage of the word palimpsest and I’d never heard of the word before and now I type it so much. Wild.

“I’m calling an Uber. You use the minute to go look at as much shit as you can. Jump in the Uber with me, come to my house. Look Rudolpho will be here in two minutes in a Honda Civic. Use one of those minutes. Go.”

OK, time for the most stressful 30 minutes of Fantasy High (so far).

I think the wagering mechanic Brennan used for the fights was brilliant. For each conflict a d20 was rolled. 1-6=epic fail. 7-14=bad but not awful. 15-20=favorable outcome. The twist was that if the person chose to help their family they could give up half their HP and 14 spell levels and he would roll with advantage.

Everyone quickly took that deal except Adaine who truly does not give a damn about her family (and also, reasonably, thought that they wouldn’t even be at home. Idk why they apparently were tbh).

When Emily said, “She’s a complex person and she’s allowed to be,” that was the moment I was like, “Oh yeah. She’s not actually Fig. IRL she knows what’s happening.”

Siobhan uses her divination roll of 18 to save Kristen’s family without having to risk anything but the Ally turns around and decides to take the deal to try and save Adaine’s family WHEN ADAINE DOESN’T EVEN CARE. But it makes sense that Kristen would.

Lou’s monolog as Brennan rolls about how nerve wracking and terrible it is to have no idea what’s going on.

“This is the worst thing I’ve been a part of.”

“I was wondering why my mom visited me and humanized herself and this is exactly why.”

Lou/Fabian: What if my fucking family dies? (F O R E S H A D O W I N G, albeit unknowingly)

Brennan (sagely): It couldn’t have been any other way./Siobhan: It could’ve been!

So the damage they took was supposed to represent the danger the took in their respective fights. Kristen got Adaine’s divination roll meaning her family was fine either way but she did take damage for Adaine’s family. But the fight was already over by the time they got there. So, in story, any injuries sustained must have been from the fight at her house, even though that wasn’t technically the deal.

Anyway, Adaine doesn’t care about her family so let’s not waste any time moving onto

OK, you guys. Let me tell you my buildup to the realization that Bill had to die.

In the first set of episodes, when tone was established, I said to myself, a parent is going to die. I don’t know who, but someone will.

Then, Bill gave them a training montage and I thought, curse of the mentor. He’s going to die. Besides, he’s one of the biggest parental figures and he’s larger than life–perfect for a fall.

Then Sklonda took down the Harvestmen and I briefly shifted my worry to her.

But then Fabian started clashing with Bill. And I remembered all the constant talk of his mortality.

And then, this ep, Brennan made him choose between his mom and dad and I was pretty sure. (sidenote: Fabian yelling at his mom the same ep Adaine said he has a great relationship with his mom. But, like, compared to her, maybe. Also, mean Brennan.)

And then Fabian lost an eye (with a description that still makes me wince) and I KNEW. Once he lost his eye, there was no way Bill could leave the fight alive, thematically.

Honestly, it was a wrap when Fabian played the video from his dad. I was worried he’d die before he got there. 

(It was a low blow, and I credit you that.)

Why were there Harvestmen attacking Fabian’s house and no one elses?

Fabian’s mom just drinking while the house is being raided.

I was so sure the tuxed Harvestman who attacked Fabian was going to turn out to somehow be Daybreak or something. Anyway, it has to come up again. There’s no reason for that level of detail otherwise. And tux sounds like prom attire.

Lou rolls a nat 1 and then rerolls it because he has the lucky trait. What’s funny is just started listening to NADNDPod and Murph (who reminded Lou about the lucky thing) disallowed one of his players from rerolling a nat 1 even w/ the lucky in the last ep I listened to. I don’t remember if the circumstances were different though.

Bill handcuffing himself up to keep fighting. Yikes.

Anyway, ugh that whole death scene. I would write more but this is closing in on 4k words and I’ve been working on this for hours. I just wanna say, that was a perfect way to go out for him. Killing 60 people and then getting stabbed by his son and exploding. So baller (as was Fabian jumping out the window onto his bike and catching Bill’s sword. He has so many cool swords now).

It’s a crime no one does animatics for this show.

We also got a piece of the puzzle. Bill was the one supplying the palimpsests (or at least one of the ones. who was doing it before?) not for an evil reason. Just a chaotic neutral reason of wanting to recapture the glory days. So now we know that.

I mentioned this before but…Fabian is Thor.

“I SHALL LEAP INTO HELL AND KILL THE DEVIL HIMSELF” and Bill Seacaster is dril apparently.

I love Fabian destroying the nice thing Bill said about him to preserve his legacy.

Ally: HE COULD HAVE SURVIVED.

I appreciate so much that Lou knew his character so well that without any hesitation he stabbed Bill and that was the right choice.

Whew, that was a lot.

Also, not that I don’t trust Brennan but it’s wild that Bill, the most thematically appropriate parent to die, was the only one who failed his roll apparently. 

Aww at Zelda’s message to Gorgug. She made him a playlist! So 80’s high school. It gives him a bonus! Also I really wanna know what’s on the list. Like, is it all fantasy rock puns or actual songs? Yay for Brennan giving them cool items for good RPing.

Emily and Zac both rolled 20’s for initiative for next week’s fight. Hopefully that’s a good omen. We have no way of knowing because THERE’S NO PROMO FOR NEXT WEEK.

Dallison rewrite of season 4 where Allison functionally takes the place of Braeden as the one helping Derek through his transition to human and empowering him when he doubts himself, with a healthy side helping of pls dear god someone actually acknowledge what is going on here and how traumatic it should be

Why Someone Might Love Them: He’s sturdy like a rock! That’s definitely a huge reason both Kingcup and Thyme like him. It’s really hard to honestly rattle him and that’s kinda nice to have in a friend, you know? He’s also a massively sarcastic little dipshit with a sharp but not cruel tongue and a love of truly bad things. He knows how to have a good time, you know? :P

Why Someone Might Hate Them: I wanna say the massive sarcastic little dipshit thing sarcasm (and it’s definitely a possibility) but I honestly feel the monotony of his voice would probably get to people first. In high doses, I imagine it grates real easy.

How They Change: Out of the three mains, Oleander probably changes the least. He starts as a deadpan snarky kid who goes to support club to basically shut up his roommate and at the end, he’s still really similar to that person. But~! That’s okay. He ends knowing more about himself and what happened to him in his past and he’s on a much healthier path for healing because of that knowledge and that kinda overjoys me a lot. c:

Why You Love Them: !!! I love his silliness! I love his bluntness!! I love his monotone sarcasm and his love of ugly awful things that he sincerely feels are wondrous!! He’s been such an old character of mine for years and years now and I still just love learning new things about him and seeing how far he’s come from his original pissy protective edgelord beginning and I’m so so so happy I finally wised up and made him the main character of Icarus. Why Someone Might Hate Them: Oh ho ho. Outside of his anxieties and insecurities which feel like unfair hits, Thyme comes off as a little goody two-shoes at times and someone who is more nice than he is kind. It’ll rub people that wrong way for sure but honestly? Kingcup is screaming that Thyme is far too reckless when it comes to his magic!! He took a miles width chuck of the Backwoods into the Inbetween, raised a rabbit from the dead, got burned and took none of that to heart!! What the Fuck, Thyme!! Any one of those things would be bad but all of them combined?! What were you thinking!!

How They Change: 😭😭😭💕💕💕  Thyme starts off treading through a sea of guilt while spiraling downwards in anxieties and chipperly trying to pretend ‘Everything Is A-Okay! :)’ It’s not, at all. I love seeing him grow the most of out of the three, coming to terms with his connection to death and what happened in the Backwoods and actually accepting kingcup isn’t wrong about him being a reckless little shit either thyme what the fuck. By the end, I’m basically rolling on the ground in glee and pride about how far he comes in maturing into and working towards that better version of himself that’s still uniquely Thyme and It’s Wonderful!

Why You Love Them: I love his sincerity! I love his anxieties! I love his compassion and I love his recklessness, oh my god! He is my darling bisexual disaster of bisexual and the type of character I’d fell over heels for as a teen. His journey is so so much fun and while he’s no longer my main character for Icarus, I still have a massive soft spot for him (clearly). The height difference was a bit less obvious when you guys were younger

but it was still there

You and Eddie stayed the same height for a while

And then one day, he just stopped growing

As the rest of you guys got older, you all got taller

but, that boy had been 5’3 since he was at least 9

1) What do you listen to while you draw?

- It depends, sometimes I listen to music that tends to be uptempo no matter the genre (though other times if it's an album or a playlist I made, I'll let the emo songs play lol). But if not music, I listen to podcasts :D. Right now I'm going through the MBMBAM episodes in order and I found it's really nice listening to them and laughing as I draw~ (I also listen to their Adventure Zone episodes too!) So yeah, when I draw I always have to have something I'm listening to, it keeps me inspired and motivated ^^.

- Hehe, so some styles I use to draw in all the time when I was younger were:

The classic Archie Comics style, some Manga/Anime like Fruits Basket & Sailor Moon, western cartoons like Avatar: The Last Airbender, Teen Titans, Totally Spies, Winx Club...Oh! the classic 2D Disney style too, even like Spongebob (I had a book when I was younger on how to draw the characters lol), Fairly Odd Parents/Danny Phantom, My Life as a Teenage Robot etc. They (and others I can't remember rn) all had an influence on my art and how my current style is now~

Definitely want to hear the essay on Kenji's proposal

YOU INDULGE ME. 

*I tried to make this as coherent as possible and isolated it to just parts of his personality that I took into account when thinking of my proposal hcs. BUCKLE IN KIDS.

His character is just starting to get some depth after the initial presentation of him as just cocky and arrogant and flirty. So there are a lot of different versions/interpretations that I have, mostly just what I inferred from what he does/says in the game.

In short I’mma cover: 

1. why he might have commitment issues which could lead to a scenario where he doesn’t propose OR it takes him a while to get around the idea of it.

2. why there’s a defensive Kenji and why that side of him could do the proposing.

Possible commitment issues

What makes me unsure of what exactly Kenji would do (and if he would actually), is his characterization as a playboy, and his seemingly impulsive, chill, live life to the fullest attitude. One or both of these, I think, could actually give him some commitment issues.

1. The playboy trait and his childhood:

We don’t actually get insight in the game if he’s an actual playboy, as in, playing the field, new girl on his arm every week, never wants to have a relationship, is all about the flirting and sex etc.

We only get this impression because he’s really direct and flirty. Plus the reporter always saying things like he’s the “resident it-boy” and that “many fans at home curse your MCs name” (if you say you’re his date) lmao it’s probably all just this one reporter’s thirsty ass tho

If you get to know him during the diamond scene when you hire him at The Grand, pre-renovation, we learn that Kenji wasn’t always how he is now. He was the typical Asian kid with strict parents who wanted him to get those straight A’s. Kenji will tell you he was a quiet kid. He was smart enough to get into law school but quit. And if you spar with him, you see how much his parents wanted to teach him a lot of different skills. 

Conclusion: These points make me think he’s not a playboy in that sense. More like, Kenji is already naturally charismatic, outgoing, and direct, but his upbringing asked for a lot of that to be suppressed. Then one day he just wants to be his own man, quits law school, does what he wants, even if it upsets his mom. To me, the playboy act is his way of making up for a quiet childhood. 

My interpretation of Kenji’s attitude towards relationships, despite his flirty playboy characterization, with all this in mind:

A. Doesn’t have commitment issues; at least not because he’s afraid of being committed to one person for the rest of his life – more on this below

B. It’s more that his actions and flirty attitude had him mislabelled as one. Maybe he just has a healthy sex life and never found anyone worth taking seriously.

C. But would definitely lock someone down when he found someone worth his time.

D. So he’d propose eventually cause he’ll TOTALLY fall for Alex cause Alex is BAE

2. Live life to the fullest attitude

This, I think is both just a part of him but is magnified to make up for his childhood. We see that he just wants to enjoy life. He goes for the adrenaline. (Motorcycle, first reaction on flying is WOOOHOOO, no hesitation on being a hero)

This trait is actually what may give him commitment issues if he has any. He’s spontaneous, outgoing, does what he wants, is direct, and goes after what he wants.

This interpretation is based on similar people I know irl actually lol but He may not be in a relationship or hold one down because people eventually try to either 

1. Make him feel suffocated; Kenji needs to be Kenji. He needs to go crazy sometimes and go on his little thrill rides. Some people might want him to tone it down. “Hey stop partying, hey stop going off on random road trips, hey get your life together and get a real job.” And he’s just gonna feel trapped. He’s a lot like Leo from RoE in this aspect, imo. He needs someone who would go on adventures with him.

2. Try to change him; people might fall for the smooth, adventurous guy, but in the long run, they might try to change the guy. Get him stuck in a routine. Get him to stop being him. Eventually boils down to point 1 lol.

So if his adventurous and carefree live in the moment attitude is a part of him, and not just some front to make up for his childhood (I think it’s both) then he could have difficulty settling down. There’s a tendency to feeling trapped or trying to be changed.

Although the way Alex is written when he/she responds to Kenji makes them a perfect adventurous match for him so he’ll probably come around to the idea (again, like Leo

1. The need to impress

Good lord I feel like Meiko did a number on him. Speaking as a kid pressured to overachieve, you develop:

1. The need to impress/please in general

2. The need to hear your parents approve of you, because it always feels like they are never satisfied with the things you do, even if most people think it’s amazing (HELLO LAW SCHOOL AND 12040342 MARTIAL ARTS???)

3. The desire to rebel, be free and independent, to separate from this pressure (basically everything I said about the playboy act applies hah)

I think Kenji has all of this lol. He quit law school and is doing what he wants to now, so he can separate from trying to impress his mother all the time, but he’s already conditioned to want to impress her anyway.

There’s some dialogue between Kenji and Alex regarding approval. Have some screens: 

As if he doesn’t want people to get the idea that it’s all for them. It’s important to him, that’s why he did it. It’s not for you, not for his parents. But if this is isolated to Alex, my headcanon is that he likes her and doesn’t want her to get that impression that he’s being fake and the stuff he does to impress her is a show. He wants to impress her, but without any bullshitting.

I mean LOOK AT HIM GET ALL WEIRD ABOUT IT:

What I see: Kenji wants to impress, but on his terms. Not with law school, but with what he thinks is important. His efforts for the club, being a hero, etc. And he wants to impress his loved ones without making them think he’s fake about it. He gets sad that his mom doesn’t appreciate these efforts, and he makes it a point to recognize and acknowledge when someone (Alex) does:

2. The Real Kenji

Part of me believes little quiet Kenji is a part of who he is. But so is cocky, outgoing Kenji. A side effect of him trying to make up for his quiet and possible strict childhood by acting the playboy is how people now don’t seem to take him seriously. And I think he’s very aware of it and is insecure about it. (I lost the screenshot to this, but if you say something like “You actually pulled it off” instead of “It turned out great!” when the Grand reopens, he says something like “Hey, believe it or not, I can actually do things when I set my mind to it.”)

Alex sees and likes the real him though:

And I headcanon that this is why he likes her so much to the point that he would go long-term with her. But at the same time I am GUESSING that these insecurities about her not liking the real him, or not taking him seriously creep up now and then.

Proposals:

So I mentioned either he’d be confident and secure and just do it spontaneously, or he’d be embarrassed, shy Kenji who will get all OC about it going PERFECTLY. These depend more on how he could feel about his relationship with Alex, given the baggage he could have that I listed above.

Confident Kenji is secure that Alex likes him, and loves her so much for it. But he only asks when he’s come around to the idea, and is sure that he wants to be with Alex. That Alex won’t suffocate him. Which she won’t because she can CLEARLY keep up with him (Alex acts more spontaneous and adventurous in conversations with Kenji if you notice)

Embarrassed Kenji who wants the proposal to be PERFECT is what may happen if he is insecure that Alex loves all of him and/or takes him seriously. So he has to show that he is. OR he does it because he’s so grateful and happy that someone loves him and appreciates him that he thinks Alex deserves the best fucking proposal EVER.

TL;DR

Kenji could have commitment issues. More because he’s the adventurous type and he’s afraid of feeling trapped than because he’s a playboy. He’s also probably not a playboy.

May act like a playboy cause of mommy issues where he had to be the perfect overachieving son. Might be a way to make up for a quiet, tame childhood.

Playboy act may have given him insecurity that people don’t take him seriously. 

Mommy issues also make him want to impress, but defensive when people call him out on trying to impress them.

So Kenji might take a while to propose, only does it if he feels like Alex won’t suffocate him in the long run.

Kenji will propose confidently if he’s secure in his relationship with Alex.

Kenji might propose in embarrassed perfectionist Kenji mode if he’s insecure about Alex taking him seriously as not a playboy. Or because he’s grateful that Alex loves him for him that he needs it to be PERFECT.
