DPxDC idea thing
Now with AO3 post!
So picture this, the Justice League have just captured the new vigilante called Phantom. So far he has refused to talk to any JL members and seemingly vanished every time they tried to speak to him. After a particularly difficult battle Superman is finally able to put power restricting cuffs on Phantom and bring him to the Watchtower. Phantom has been silent since being subdued and looks like he's being walked to his execution.
Meanwhile, Red Hood has been brought in on an unrelated case and is speaking to a League member when he feels a kind of tugging in his chest. He starts walking in the direction he's being pulled and looks through the one way mirror looking into one of the interrogation rooms. He locks eyes with the green eyed boy and feels fire start burning in his chest as his brain screams protect king help. He's consumed with a feeling almost like the pit rage as he bursts through the door and makes a beeline to Danny. Batman starts to step in front of him but Jason throws him into the wall and undoes Danny's cuffs. Once Danny is free Jason blinks and looks around, feeling unbalanced now that the all consuming need to protect Phantom has subsided.
Danny is completely stunned as he looks at this leather clad mountain of a man that radiates safe protected friend. He's quickly snapped out of his shock as Superman enters the room and starts to grab Jason's shoulder. Danny's protective king instincts kick in as he darts between Supes and Jason, in a voice filled with static and cracking ice he says, "Don't touch my Knight."

Belated realisation post-novels that sacrifices to Bhaal specifically involve the blood and life force of the victim, which is not-so-metaphorically eaten. Bhaal craves blood itself, and may even demand specific 'vintages' via dream visions.
(This does nothing to dissuade me from the idea that the 'Death' Strahd originally made a deal with was Bhaal fyi).
So in other words a Bhaalist's job is going out and bringing home victims so their master can eat their blood. Most victims are carefully selected from the poor and outcast and criminals in shady high traffic areas. Normally Bhaalists are doing this of their own free will, but of course there are select others who were spawned to serve on pain of being stripped of autonomy and tortured for disobedience, so whether they serve willingly or not is irrelevant.
I personally picture Durge being slightly more like Cazador's other spawn than Astarion (specifically the better behaved/'better treated' ones), but hey, there's another layer to the things these various spawn have in common.

I love you wilderness survival stories. I love you breakdown of social order that gives credence to what truly matters in the face of the wild untamed and unknown. I love you exposure of colonialist imperialist and capitalist hubris and christian morality. I love you stank and stubborn bitches who absolutely refuse to fucking die against absolutely bleak and incomprehensible odds completely against the will of the horror they have witnessed at the hands of mortal men and at the hand of forces far beyond their mortal means to control. I love you. Never change gorgeous <3.

We Sinners were cast upon this land when the ark crashed. Now pray, and God shall send the angel of salvation our way. Praise the angel. Honor the angel. Become the angel's eyes. May God bless you.
When the two angels descend, a bridge of light will cross the sky and we will be led to the land of God. Heed the words of Missionary Michael and Priest William.
Now pray, and God shall send the angel of salvation our way. For those who believe in God, death is not the end. Only those who believe find salvation and love.
Rejoice in death. Praise death. May God bless you.

These characters are heinous. There is no redemption to be found for them. They are manipulative, deceptive, exploitative, violent, and utterly assured of their own superiority and paths in their world.
In short: here be monsters (and spoilers).

There is a place in the parish of Errigal in Londonderry, called Slaghtaverty, but it ought to have been called Laghtaverty, the laght or sepulchral monument of the abhartach [avartagh] or dwarf (see p. 61, supra). This dwarf was a magician, and a dreadful tyrant, and after having perpetrated great cruelties on the people he was at last vanquished and slain by a neighbouring chieftain; some say by Fionn Mac Cumhail. He was buried in a standing posture, but the very next day he appeared in his old haunts, more cruel and vigorous than ever. And the chief slew him a second time and buried him as before, but again he escaped from the grave, and spread terror through the whole country. The chief then consulted a druid, and according to his directions, he slew the dwarf a third time, and buried him in the same place, with his head downwards; which subdued his magical power, so that he never again appeared on earth. The laght raised over the dwarf is still there, and you may hear the legend with much detail from the natives of the place, one of whom told it to me.
— Joyce, The Origin and History of Irish Names of Places[1]

Alternate Version In some modern versions of the story Abhartach rises from his grave to drink the blood of his subjects,[2] while the chieftain who slays the revenant is named as Cathain. The hero variously consults an early Christian saint instead of a druid, and is told that Abhartach is one of the neamh-mairbh, or walking dead, and that he can only be restrained by killing him with a sword made of yew wood, burying him upside down, surrounding his grave with thorns, and placing a large stone on top of the grave.[3][4]

Before everyone totally forgets. Duke, having slept through the night like a good well adjusted boy, wakes up to a breakfast of confusion. What do you mean you didn’t know Alfred was a ghost? It was obvious? He never sleeps? He can teleport? Light field aside he’s watched the man float through the ceiling.
"Oh my god he’s dead- we killed a vigilante, OHMYGODOHMYGOD—" A hysterical voice screeched out, decidedly feminine and loud enough that the comn line picked it up.
"He broke in here for no reason first! We have probable cause as to why you brained him with our wok!" The second interjected, calmer than the first, but there was still a line of tension, like they were uncertain about what they were saying.
"Oh my god, oh god we’re literally so dead Batman’s literally going to murder me and you and us and—"
"We're already mostly dead, he can't kill us. Although I thought he had a no killing rule anyways, so maybe we’re safe? Ancients, that is a lot of blood. You think we should call an ambulance?" Static filtered through the comn line before stabilizing again and wow. The residents of the apartment were really just having a full conversation over an unconscious Nightwing- in earshot of a microphone recording every word- like this was a normal occurrence. Maybe it was a normal Friday night for them, Barbara couldn't exactly judge.
"I'm not calling an ambulance, they might arrest him. Hell, they're probably gonna arrest us! Danny, we're fucking unresgistered metas in Gotham, I’m a clone—"
"—Not metas and I won’t let anyone arrest you—"
"—It's the same thing to the government at the end of the day. You're right though. I think I hit him too hard, we're going to lose the deposit with the amount of blood getting everywhere. Head wounds bleed a lot right? Maybe he's not dead."
"He's not dead, we'd know if he was."
"Oh. Right. Man. That is a lot of blood, our IKEA rug is ruined. I liked that rug, you think we could ask him to buy a new one when he wakes up or is he on the normal vigilante salary of nothing?"
“Mhm. I'll go get the med kit, you handcuff him to the table so he doesn't jump us when he wakes up. Keep the mask on- I don’t want to piss off whatever buddies he’s got listening in.”

Sitting at the edge of the bar, resting her head on her arms as she spins a coaster on its edge. “Hey, Aryie, you’re a god. Is there a grand plan or is the world just chaos?”
Tumblr media
"Grand plan? Uhhhh..." she looks left, then right, then just...kinda shrugs. "...I don't really know anymore. The big evil I was supposed to defeat...has been defeated. So like...ehh?" A shrug, "I'm just sorta having fun at this point. If you mean for mortals, well...the world is what you make of it. That's how it's always been."

Revnant: *thinking about inventing their EoD specalisation* Hey thief, you jump about in combat, is it effective?
Thief: I don't do things cause they might be "effective". Last time I did that I lost backstabbing privileges in the mist war.
Revnant: But you do do it?
Theif: Yeah, cause it looks cool. It's all about the aesthetic. But, if I jump around too much my underboob falls out, "don't jump too high" is my advice.
Revnant: How high is too high?
Thief: How high you got?

my hope for Revnant is Fikrul gets a small Eramis treatment. like dudes a violent nihilist but hes suffered his freinds deaths, betrayed by his "father" and saw his children effectivly be ,mind controlled by the Witness and has been trying to get them back I totaly see what hes doing in Act 1 as a sorta overcompensation. Make sure the Scorn are numerous and strong enough they cant be controlled again. Im not saying hes a soft hearted good guy but hes intresting and complex and his connections to Variks, Eramis and Crow make for an intresting way to view Eliksni culture from somone whos uttelry rejected it idk i hope that this story ends with Crow giving Fikrul the same chance he got and if he dosent accept it at least not go full cackinling skeletor evil
I would also like something similar, especially after all we've learned in Warlord's Ruin about how Fikrul didn't ally his Scorn with the Witness and wants to give them a separate life. Which makes sense with the Echo; he now has the extra ability to do so with the power of the Echo.
I have no clue where they might go with him. It could go literally anywhere, but I would enjoy seeing him fleshed out more and given some level of ambiguity overall. Kinda like yeah, he's an enemy but also he's not as bad as the Scorn that are sticking with the Witness. Fikrul wants a real and proper life for his Scorn; there's really no way out of this, we can't undo their existence so having some Scorn be ... maybe not allies, but at least neutral would be interesting. Though obviously there's a really big conflict between Scorn and Eliksni simply because in order for Scorn to exist, Eliksni have to die so that sucks a little bit.
I'm also interested in the little we've seen about the Dread hanging around with the Scorn. Since the Dread are the Witness' creations. But without the Witness, they may also be changing and seeing potential allies with other ex-Witness forces.
Really curious to see where Revenant will go with all of this.
