One of the most underrated scenes from AFTG is in TRK when Neil tells Andrew “I hope she was worth it” talking about Cass and Andrew turns and says “Neil, you are far too heavy to tread ice this thin”.

(i'm not kidding. the entirety of the first two books is just both of them saying how interesting the other is. it's suffocating.)

Another medicated Andrew! And black haired Neil!

The two first books hold such bangers, and clearly not enough people ramble about them. I'm a sucker for the relationship they have afterwards obviously, but even before that they're hilarious. Many underrated scenes that could be worth drawing.

Also I underestimated how Neil dress and presents himself - like: he wears oversized, worn out and faded, preferably light-colored clothes; messy curlyish hair with bangs; sports hoodies; JORTS-

... He's got a banger style actually.

I said this in another post, but it bears repeating:

Neil is to crime what Andrew is to Exy. Supernaturally talented and unstoppable if he wanted, but due to his general lack of interest nerfs himself.

Everyone should be grateful Neil finds crime boring and uninteresting compared to Exy cause he would have been the Kevin Day of crime, surpassing his father and mother. Nora confirmed in the EC that if the Moriyamas had messed with Andrew, Neil would have carefully and competently dismantled their empire and watched all of them burn. He was practically lab created and stress tested his whole life to fight, outlive, and outsmart criminal masterminds.

My headcannon is Ichirou is secretly relieved that Nathaniel just wants to play stick ball.

neil has a lot of unintentionally funny moments in his narration but one of the top ten for me will always be when he's on the verge of screaming-crying-throwing-up at the fall banquet because riko knows he's the butcher's son, and then in the middle of all that his brain does a record scratch when he notices a volleyball game being set up because hOW DARE THEY USE AN EXY COURT TO PLAY VOLLEYBALL—

i don’t think people realize how well neil’s demisexuality is written. you can see his emotional connection to andrew change and grow as he learns andrew’s motivations and boundaires long before you can see his attraction to andrew appear.

i think the best example is how neil describes andrew in tkm. he never really thinks about it in detail at all and then all of a sudden “andrew looked as he always had, and neil knew his face as well as he knew every iteration of his own. despite that, something seemed different. maybe it was the sunlight streaming through the window, making andrew’s pale hair shine brighter and his hazel eyes seem almost gold. whatever it was, it was disorienting.”

demisexuality sometimes feels like a switch gets flipped out of nowhere. and andrew flipped neil’s switch because neil trusted him. trust and safety and boundary respect was literally the turn on.
