shoutout to my favourite doctor who blooper ever
Doctor: Martha, you trust me don't you?
Martha: Of course I do.
Doctor: Because it all depends on you.
Martha: What does? What am I supposed to do?
David Tennant, breaking character and returning to his natural Scottish accent: Well there's a watch, but I've lost it.

Doctor Who: Parallels, Coincidences & Callbacks
1. The day the Tenth Doctor met Donna Noble for the first time was Ruby Sunday's third birthday
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. Ruby was abandoned at a church of the same name as the one where Donna got married: St. Mary's Church
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. Both Rose Noble's and Ruby Sunday's mums were, at some point, the most important woman in the whole of creation, while also being the most ordinary people you could imagine
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
4. As pointed out by the Fifteenth Doctor, "rose" and "ruby" are both shades of red
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
5. Martha, Bill and Ruby have all expressed concerns about venturing in the past, asking about the consequences of stepping on a butterfly
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
6. In 14x06 "Rogue", when Fifteen thinks the Chuldur have killed Ruby, he asks Rogue about their lifespan. Rogue says 600 years, and Fifteen answers "Good, it's a long time to suffer". This parallels 3x09 "The Family of Blood", when Ten gives the Family a fate worse than death by trapping them and making sure they live forever. The terrifying thing with Fifteen, though, is that contrary to Ten, he found a balance between being happy and whimsical and fun, and then openly displaying satisfaction at the prospect of making certain people suffer
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
7. In the Christmas special "The Church on Ruby Road", when Ruby shows Fifteen all the pictures of the kids her mum fostered over the years, Fifteen tells her she's got the biggest family in the world. This is almost word-for-word what Sarah-Jane had told Ten in 4x13 "Journey's End"

Old one from last year under the cut 👍

"It's empty!"
"Wheres it gone?"
"You tell me"
"Oooh, I think the explanation might me youve been fooled by a simple olfactory misdirection. A little bit like ventriloquism of the nose. Its an elementary trick in certain parts of the galaxy. But it has got to be said, I dont like the look of that hydrokinometer. It seems to be indicating youve got energy feedback all the way through the retrostabilisers feeding bAck into the primary heat converters. oH! Schh. Cause if theres one thing you shouldnt have done, you shouldnt have let me press all those buttons.
BUt, in fairness, i will give you one word of advice.
RUN! :D

thinking about human nature/the family of blood as an overarching metaphor for the intrinsic connection between the conservative nuclear family structure and racism. it definitely wasn’t intentional but the more i think about it… yeah it was right on a message level that they went back to the edwardian era and the events were set specifically in the pre ww1 period. the prejudice and discrimination martha suffers is juxtaposed with the so-called carefree life in the oft-idealised, oft-romanticised ‘golden age’ of the english village that john smith gets to experience. it works. im pivoting on my perception of this story tbh. it should be read as social horror, a parable about the way (white, male) privilege literally erases a person’s compassion and free-thinking tendencies (their humanity) in favour of conformity (what does a chameleon do? it blends in). and it works!!

I’m reading Human Nature by Paul Cornell, the book The Family of Blood is based on, and turns out the seventh doctor also included that he hates pears in the list of things to make sure he doesn’t do.

Rewatching the Family of Blood episode hits different after seeing the 60th year anniversary episodes. John Smith is the Doctor without his knowledge, powers, and experience, or even the TARDIS. He still wants to do good, but he wants a simply, happy life, he wants someone to love.
And that's a part of him that's probably always been there, but got shoved down or aside for the sake of adventure, or buried because there was no one else like him after the Time War.
Because the universe needs the Doctor, and how can you put all the good he can do aside for his own selfish happiness?

the tenth doctor's super power has to be the ability to not get embarassed because if i were him and i had woken up from a three month coma only to find out i had fallen in love with a racist in front of my black companion you would have to put me back under.

You know what would have been a stroke of genius? If The Doctor used the name Chesterfield while going undercover as a school teacher in School Reunion and Human Nature/The Family of Blood. Just as his own private injoke.
