So just finished binge watching the Alex Rider Series on Amazon Prime and have thoughts.

While the show does deviate from the books quite a bit, I actually enjoyed that fact.

Alex, while still being traumatised and the weight of the world on his shoulders, isn't fully alone. The books really pushed that narrative with loads of adults dying (especially those trying to help him) and particularly when the series originally ended with Scorpia Rising, he had no one and was a broken shell.

The TV show ended on a high, the bad guys are gone or disbanded, he's got his Team that he trusts and there is now respect between him and MI6 (aka Mrs Jones)

People love to say in general the book was better but this feels more like an AU with a happy ending and honestly after everything my boy has went through, I enjoyed it very much!

blink is an absolutely insane episode of tv because the two protagonists of the show have fewer than 10 minutes of screentime and the entire story is about a nosy 21yo whom we have never seen before in our lives and her best friend’s weird brother, but it fucking slaps to the point that is critically viewed as one of the objectively best episodes of all television. do you have any idea how much this shouldn’t work

series 3 of doctor who should have had the roles reversed. have martha kiss him to confuse the judoon. have martha say yes to joining the tardis but only one trip - she's got things to do. have the doctor learn from series 2, say what he means and mean what he says. tell martha the 'one trip' is fun and all, as was extending it, but the truth is, that most people travel with him full time. and he would like that. have an organic conversation with that because let's be real, there is no part in the show where it feels authentic for martha to request something that is specifically a character trope. we the audience know it's standard for companions to stay and travel in the tardis, but at no point does it feel natural within the show's narrative. anyway, reverse the roles. make martha's family realise that it's not fair to constantly put her in the middle, flesh out francine's betrayal arc more so it's fully realised, create more conflict with leo taking his dad's side, and tish taking her mothers and by the time of the end of the series, martha feels at ease with her family.

make the doctor to fall in love with martha just as he did with rose, and have martha return his feelings but not pursue it, because frankly the doctor keeps attatching himself to human companions and hasn't really figured who he is outside of the time war. he imprinted on rose. now he's doing it with martha. so, when he meets donna, have him find a dynamic to fully establish who he is. only...to rely on it a little too much and find himself even more lost than before when he loses donna too. then commence timelord victorious.

Rewatching the Family of Blood episode hits different after seeing the 60th year anniversary episodes. John Smith is the Doctor without his knowledge, powers, and experience, or even the TARDIS. He still wants to do good, but he wants a simply, happy life, he wants someone to love.

And that's a part of him that's probably always been there, but got shoved down or aside for the sake of adventure, or buried because there was no one else like him after the Time War.

Because the universe needs the Doctor, and how can you put all the good he can do aside for his own selfish happiness?
