A good deal of Church of Seiros stans and Black Eagles stans often seem to have trouble wrapping their heads around the concept of there being no one “actual true villain” looming large during White Clouds aside from the Agarthans, and that by design, choosing to side with one faction will more prominently show the defects of the other(s).
White Clouds spends the whole section making you suspicious of the Church and Rhea only to turn around and tell you it's a red herring and actually it's the student you should have been suspicious of; which the writers confirmed in interviews but this fandom has either the reading comprehension of wet paper or projects their Western centric views so hard onto a eastern style game that follows the path of enlightenment with Byleth to a t they ignore the text and thus we still have discourse over the church being bad. It's very tiring and why I refuse to talk about 3H because so many have turned it into something it's not.

At heart, she is a feral Dragon Pope with less chill than she likes to project. I honestly think Edelgard would respect that fire were she not in danger of being put on the recieving end of it!
Extreme reaction from Rhea.
Tumblr media
So yeah, this is generally the kind of thing people are talking about when they say Rhea reacts with unwarranted hostility to threats, such as the Western Church.
Wanting to defeat Edelgard’s army is fine, she is attacking Garreg Mach. But that’s not what Rhea wants. She wants to, personally, kill each man and woman in the Imperial Army. No quarter, kill them all. That kind of behavior would be rightly condemned.
And we know this behavior of hers permeates throughout the rest of the Church of Seiros army since Count Bergliez has to offer up his own life for his soldiers to be spared outside Crimson Flower.

Sort of a meta-meta post on how 3H fandom tends to discuss Fódlan's internal politics and the problems I have with that:
The things the factions do don't exist in a vaccuum, yet much of the arguments in the faction wars™ pretty much comes down to "so and so faction does [x thing] and that's why they're bad" vs "no they don't/no that's not a bad thing" instead of like, considering how/why they might have come to do [x thing] in the first place.
For specific examples of the above:
I see stuff like "Adrestia invades other countries and that's bad" but a lot I don't think I've ever seen analysis that goes "Adrestia feels threatened by rival states that have Relics while they don't, and the other two nations breaking away from Adrestia was considered great loss/humiliation internally, so a war to conquer the other two would both take care of the military threat and be quite popular domestically"
Or I see "Faerghus is religious and that's bad" but rarely stuff like "after gaining independence the Faerghan crown and other eastern Crested houses probably shifted hard to being friendly with Central Church in order to solidify their legitimacy, possibly at the cost of alienating western houses who mostly lacked Crests + had their own regional Church."
I see "Leicester fights Almyrans and is racist about it and that's bad" but not "all three nations collaborated to build Fódlan's Necklace and keep Almyrans out, it's possible that a big part of why Adrestia/Faerghus/Church lets Leicester exist even though it's the smallest and least unified of the nations is because they're the buffer state, so Leicester (and especially Goneril) gains political incentives to go extra hard on being xenophobic to Almyrans and position themselves as the 'noble defenders of Fódlan from barbaric eastern hordes.'"
There's "Church does Crest system and that's bad" but not something like "Church taking donations motivates them to be buddy buddy with whoever pays them the most, which probably includes the major Crested houses across the continent because they have generational wealth accumulated since Five Saints/Elites days, and all this enables corruption in the Church and motivates them to overlook abuse of Crest inheritance system"
Like, if you wanna take the ~serious in-universe political analysis~ approach to arguing for your blorbo being the correct one who will fix everything, commit to it and go in depth! Imo that's honestly way more fun and interesting than the same old loops of "thing good/thing bad."

I think one of the funniest arguments I've seen in FE Twitter for why Nabateans should be ruling and hold authority over the inferior race is probably how their age and lived experience makes them most fit to rule when the US just went over the issue of its running candidates for leadership becoming increasingly old.
Like yeah, there are old people who through lived experiences and age have gained alot of insights and wisdom, but then there is also your insane grandpa who is angry at kids day and age playing with their Minecrafts instead of working in the mines from 4am to 10pm.
Rhea is a person who gets so insanely angry over her science fair necromancy experiment siding with the evil red lady and her now losing the war, that against every offer to surrender or resolve this war with her dignity and life intact, she instead has the biggest german kid temper tantrum in gaming history and orders to burn an entire civilian city she and her remaining troops currently inhabit and which gave them refuge for 5 years. I wouldn't trust Rhea to take care of my cat without burning the town I live in to the ground because he wouldn't let her pet him.

FUCK. Character-related discourse gets so heated, ugly, and against the point of the game in online FE3H circles as it is, so no wonder so few are able to properly handle Lotor - he's the complete package!
Fire Emblem Observation
Tumblr media
Rhea, leader of the Church of Serios.
Edelgard, leader of the Adrestrian Empire.
Dimitri, leader of the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus.
Claude, leader of the Leicester Alliance.
They're all different, but they share one very unique thing in common.
They all add up to one Prince Lotor.
Tumblr media
Seriously, I know @ultraericthered made the comparison with Edelgard before, but when you think about it, it's all of them! Rhea is over a thousand years old and believes that unlocking the secret to some great power is the key to ensuring everlasting peace is her conflict-prone setting. Edelgard is a white-haired imperialist who arrogantly thinks she alone has what it takes to change things for the better and will use almost every trick in the book to do so regardless of morality (and is also a huge nerd deep down). Dimitri is a charming, eloquent, handsome prince who has been through some serious trauma and then ultimately snaps, becoming a feral, murderous beast of a man yelling about how he will kill the white-haired girl he once loved. And Claude is a deceptive schemer whose default is not really opening up and trusting others with his ambitions and secrets, and in Three Hopes can become outright devious in the pursuit of the greater good he desires. And the fan discourse surrounding all of these characters often shuns nuance for black-and-white thinking! It's fucking Prince Lotor!

Fishing trip at Rhodos Coast 🎣
I was recently commissioned to draw the cabbage patch family~ 🥹💚 Credits to @enbeeon for Cichol's wife's design!! Thank you so much for the comm, this one was really special~!!
For those who are unfamiliar with my HCs and designs of the Four Saints, from left to right: it's grumpy middle child Macuil, micromanaging baby brother Cichol, best daughter and niece Cethleann (followed by a special guest, her lovely mother), and lastly, timid eldest brother/peacemaker Indech.
