I think one of the funniest arguments I've seen in FE Twitter for why Nabateans should be ruling and hold authority over the inferior race is probably how their age and lived experience makes them most fit to rule when the US just went over the issue of its running candidates for leadership becoming increasingly old.
Like yeah, there are old people who through lived experiences and age have gained alot of insights and wisdom, but then there is also your insane grandpa who is angry at kids day and age playing with their Minecrafts instead of working in the mines from 4am to 10pm.
Rhea is a person who gets so insanely angry over her science fair necromancy experiment siding with the evil red lady and her now losing the war, that against every offer to surrender or resolve this war with her dignity and life intact, she instead has the biggest german kid temper tantrum in gaming history and orders to burn an entire civilian city she and her remaining troops currently inhabit and which gave them refuge for 5 years. I wouldn't trust Rhea to take care of my cat without burning the town I live in to the ground because he wouldn't let her pet him.

I get so annoyed when people portray Dimitri’s unwillingness to betray the Church as him caring about and (on a personal level) supporting the church. That’s just not it, and I’m really happy warriors was able to show that more. Dimitri is not religious and he is loyal to the Church because the kingdom is, not because he is. Even that isn’t fully accurate- it’s just that the Church of Seiros is so ingrained he couldn’t remove it without civil war and ruin for Faerghus. He may have personal issues with the Church but he is not going to let his kingdom burn for them.
On one hand yes that is inactive, he is acknowledging a problem and basically saying he can’t fix it, at least not soon. But his alternative is just death and ruin so I can’t blame him. But that does not make Dimitri a supporter of Seiros.

Fishing trip at Rhodos Coast 🎣
I was recently commissioned to draw the cabbage patch family~ 🥹💚 Credits to @enbeeon for Cichol's wife's design!! Thank you so much for the comm, this one was really special~!!
For those who are unfamiliar with my HCs and designs of the Four Saints, from left to right: it's grumpy middle child Macuil, micromanaging baby brother Cichol, best daughter and niece Cethleann (followed by a special guest, her lovely mother), and lastly, timid eldest brother/peacemaker Indech.

The question of whether the Church has too much authority/influence in Fódlan at time of canon is actually kind of impossible to satisfactorily answer, and I am not talking about "oh every faction is morally grey/it depends on which faction you picked" or something like that.
I mean that real life historical examples (of religions) we might be tempted to compare them to and judge them by just don't work well, because if they are institutionally similar then they don't match theologically/doctrinally, and if they're doctrinally similar then they don't match institutionally.
Central Church is like if Buddhism + Confucianism + Taoism cosplayed as Catholics with pope and Vatican feat. dragons, and if you feel like this combination makes no goddamn sense by real world standards/historical development then that's because it doesn't.
Combine that with the fact the Church is weirdly avoidant and passive and the fact Fódlanis have not killed each other over religion enough and I think it's entirely possible the Church itself at the time of canon doesn't know exactly how much authority it holds.

Just as a thinkbit:
From a pro-church perspective, the church loses all divine and religious authority in Crimson Flower. After all, Byleth is the literal living Vessel and chosen Successor of the Goddess Sothis, so Edelgard being crowned with Byleth as her witness makes her indeed a divinely ordained Emperor. So Rheas duty as Archbishop would have been to bend the knee and accept Edelgards authority the second Byleth protected her in an act of divine intervention.
