book 7 chapter 13 part 1 thoughts!

***THIS POST CONTAINS MASSIVE SPOILERS FOR BOOK 7 PART 13 OF THE MAIN STORY!!*** This spans part 295 to part 327.

Please note: this is NOT meant to be a summary or a translation; these are only my initial thoughts on the events that roughly unfold. There may be details overlooked or misunderstood in this post, so PLEASE do not use this as a translation.

WOW awful way to start this update off 💀 They’re falling from the sky and L*ONA TAKES chARGE AnD THELLS tHe otHER thURD yEARSTO TO NOT juDt FALL BUT FucKING DO SmTH… So him, Cater, and Trey use wind magic to cushion everyone’s fall.

We land on the sandy beaches of Ace’s dream. Ortho picked this spot because it has the lowest chance of encountering darkness. (zbxjsbkwdhks Cute scene of L*ona shaking sand off of himself…) Ortho worries because he still has not regained connection with Idia’s tablet.

Sebek yoinks Grim out of the sand and checks on Yuu but ignores Adeuce, who are right next to us www

Trey initiates the card soldier roll call, with Ace counting off as 1, Deuce as 2, himself as 3, and Cater as 4. They realize Riddle isn’t there and panic until Leona informs them he’s probably in that “third layer” of his dream, where he is confronted with his truest, darkest self. Omg… Leona calls that third layer “the abyss” because there was nothing else there, just “the darkness, quietly opening its maw.” SO THAT’S WHY THIS BOOK IS CALLED RULER OF TGE ABYSS, EH…

Trey begins to worry like a dad looking for his lost child (Leona’s description, not mine lol). Leona tells Trey Riddle’s strong enough to hold his own in the abyss (which I guess is his way of reassuring Trey 😂).

Ortho expresses frustration that he can’t do anything right now. If he dream hops again without Idia’s cloaking + other tech support, Malleus will surely notice them. The group decides to try and recover for now. They also reassure Ortho that he has done a lot for them.

LEONA FUCKED OFF TO NAP, BTW 💀 Bro cannot be bothered to deal with a crying kid…

Silver like. Grabs Ortho and tries to squeeze him to help release tension from his muscles. It’s something Lilia taught him. Silver shares that he understands how he feels. Ortho continues to worry that they may “lose” Idia and that he’ll break his promise to their parents (to stop them from “losing” another son). HE STARTS CRYING… Sebek shouts at Trey to do something, because him just standing there and pointing out that crying’s expected in situations like this isn’t helping. So Trey strokes Ortho’s head and provides comfort.

Everyone kinda falls asleep together on the beach?? And Ortho hears his mom’s voice. Mr. and Mrs. Shroud appear via holograms!

Shroud parents tell everyone that Malleus has invaded Idia’s dream. For now, he cannot quite barge in due to the technomantic shield in place, but Idia can only hold him off for so long. They worry about the discovery of the cheat tool Idia was working on to help them fight Malleus. Mrs. Shroud shows them a photo of recent transmission from Idia’s dream. However, the quality is pretty bad.

LOL WHYmS THAT lOOK LIKE A MISSING chILD IMGAGE…

The Heartslabyul students spot Riddle in the corner of Idia’s picture. Ortho is a little relieved that Riddle can support him, but then the others point out that Riddle and Idia have clashing personalities + cannot get along. Trey says we should put our trust in those two…

Idia wants Riddle to keep Malleus busy while he works on the cheat tool. He provides Riddle with magic coding books and tells him to read them in 3 minutes or so???? Riddle claims it’s impossible but Idia goads him saying Riddle can memorize the Queen’s 810 laws and all school rules but not this??? His big head’s ready too full, so he can’t hold more info? Okay then stick a pacifier in your mouth and let us game over :v Riddle gets annoyed but then swears he’ll memorize all the coding manuals in 2 minutes, not 3, since he owes Idia for all of his help so far.

Uhhh I think they use a coding program thing (not sure of terminology) called Spell Forge. Riddle uses a stylus called InQuill to fill out the gaps in the protection spell’s construction, since he prefers doing things by hand rather than typing (Idia uses a unique keyboard with weird shaped keys and very few of them).

New mini game thing…? Where we basically just punch in the letters displayed up top.

Malleus is made aware of Riddle’s presence and tries to meddle using frost and electricity magic. Riddle has one more book to read… he likens the coding to solving a crossword puzzle.

Malleus breaks the door off?! But Idia needs Riddle to entertain him for 3 more minutes so he can finish his cheat tool.

AgHHHhHhHHH SudDENLy…?! Ignihyde-themed main screen reboot?!

Oh my god, he had Malleus trapped on the home screen and he cannot move without “player input” 😭

Boss!!!Idia has a cool new jacket that helps him optimize his performance. If he gets a new SSR, it might feature this jacket.

We also see S.T.Y.X.'s headquarters! On the large screens in the back, you can spot some battle map plans.

UMMMMMMM Idia summons us all as SSRs via the Mirror Chamber… HE SAYS THE SAME THING THE MIRROR OF DARKNESS DOES… The exact same animations for pulling them from the gacha play. I show one example with Ortho below, but he does this for all of the cast, excluding Lilia and Malleus. (D-Does this canonize our gacha pulls...?????)

... By the way, Idia hacked himself infinity gems and 999 keys + rigged the rates to always pull SSR OTL We all wish this was us…

We’re brought to HQ to talk about our next steps. Idia moves Malleus to various isolated battle maps (with that dorm’s members there) to slowly whittle him down. Each OB boy is granted the ability to take on their OB form, which enhances their powers. LMAO they all start complaining about how lame Dream Form Change is but Idia mutes them 💀

Silver, Sebek, Yuu, and Grim are with Idia, everyone else is with their dorm members. Yuu and Grim ate going to grant support on the battle maps via the Twst app 💀 Heals, buffs, that kind of thing. They’re being very literal with us being the strategist here. Ortho meanwhile is going to go wake up the staff (bless, idk if I could have handled like 60 extra parts of waking them up too).

Silver asks about Lilia, who wasn’t summoned. Idia says he was not able to bring Lilia since he never handed him an invite.

Silver lets everyone know that Lilia is his father. (asdhbasa Cater and Kalim think he was talking about a teacher..._

Pomefiore is especially touched by Silver’s love for his father, so they volunteer to be the first to step up and fight Malleus.

OKAY OKAY SO

There’s like 6 battle maps, each of them involving the OB boy changing into their OB forms and then kicking Malleus but Malleus still manages to resist every time. Idia has to intervene to prevent him from turning us into charcoal and isolate him to the next map. There’s a lot of extra dialogue on each map, but the gist of it is we see the members of each dorm fighting alongside each other, along with some commentary interjected from members of other dorms (via projections/holograms). I’m pretty sure this is meant to show how far they’ve come in willingness to cooperate with each other, because previous battle maps did not have nearly THIS much dialogue. Before going to the next battle map, we always get a brief scene of the next dorm chatting about what happened in their dreams and then psyching themselves up for their turn to bash Malleus.

Mrs, Shroud gets in contact with her son!! She had trouble because Idia kept her account blocked. He’s embarrassed to face his mom after she’s been digging around in his computer.

Mr. Shroud also appears! He lets us know that they’re looking for a mystium in order to craft weapons that can take Malleus down, since his dragon scales are very tough. Baur (in the real world, not the dream) has joined the search as well.

Silver and Sebek realized that Lilia’s magearm contains mystium. However, it was wrapped up and shipped to the Land of Crimson Long to join Lilia in retirement. Mr. Shroud moves to contact the countries the magearm would have to pass through to get to its destination. They MUST intercept the package!

Heartslabyul is happy to reunite with Riddle. He apologizes for causing them trouble, but Ace scolds their dorm leader for thinking he can order Cater + Trey to stop him and Deuce from trying to pull him from the darkness and then going missing for a while. And now Riddle thinks he can resolve things with a simple “sorry”? There’s so much more to say!

UHHHHHH Ace starts bawling and the seniors comfort him 💦 Riddle praises Adeuce for getting their UMs. Cater says Ace must be jealous that Trey comforyed Ortho earlier??? AcE wHInES THAT THE SENIORS ShOULD LOvE hiM AnD DEUCE Ghe mOst 😭 Bro… you chose now to unleash all of your brat energy…

LOL Ace wishes Riddle learned how to comfort people instead of magic engineering… He gives Riddle’s apology 30 points.

Riddle confirms he is one month older than Ace. The seniors say Riddle is an underclassman too and start being all “aww you guys are so cute!”

Mmm so after the battles, the participants are transported to a virtual infirmary space to recover.

chzjsvejdhoawjn Idia didn’t wake the teachers first because they’d just be annoying??? 😭 Not sure if I understood that part correctly.

Azul worries that they’re violating the other dreamers’ privacies by peering into their dreams via the STORY function of the app. He then decides he should peek anyway because the dreams may contain weaknesses and secrets he can take advantage of. Idia calls Octa away for their battle map before he can.

Oh, there’s a specialist mage known as a… Returner?? They can use long range transfer magic, even being able to transfer a large number of people across long distances. Sebek realizes that humans and fae can work together to minimize damage from Malleus’s magic.

They’re able to intercept the magearm!! Either Silver’s blessing, S.T.Y.X. begins to process it into weapons for Silver and Sebek to use.

Kalim casually asks Jamil how he’s doing 😭 (since his cheeks were swollen from Kalim punching him)… He mentions that he thinks Jamil and Azul are very similar (which Jamil is insulted by) and that he even though his dream!Jamil was fun, it wasn’t the real Jamil. “It was like looking into a mirror.” Kalim admits that even though some people cannot be friends (wow, character development for him??), it is those differences that make the world an interesting place. He prefers that kind of world.

Jamil agrees with Kalim. Jewels are called jewels and not stones because they’re hard to get. He’s sure that jewels are formed through hardship… a lot of heat and pressure.

LOL???? Kalim says it’s great they were able to make up. “Hah? When did we make up?” — Jamil, #1 Kalim Hater (Kalim also tries to plead with Malleus to stop this and make up, but of course that doesn’t work.)

Idia’s getting overwhelmed managing everything. Have no fear!! Ortho comes in with Ignihyde Mobs A, B, and C, who provide backup with their technical know-how!

S.T.Y.X. finishes processing the mystium! They create the Sword of Truth and Shield of Virtue, as well as Harmonia Frame/Armor. When equipped, the armor will change into the shape that best suits its pilot.

The sword is given to Silver and the shield to Sebek. It’s the opposite of their stances in their Dorm Uniform cards—Silver is standing defensively but Sebek is standing offensively, yet the items they are granted are the reverse.

There’s a battery in the item(s???) that will allow them to fire off a powerful beam, but it is limited to 2 uses.

A dragon’s horns store magical energy and amplify power…? So you have to be careful with those. Apparently it is the horns that affect the weather, which is why Malleus’s mood alters it.

They think they can take Malleus out just by grazing the corner of his horns? So accuracy is important. Silver and Sebek will train in a virtual space to prepare.

Silver and Sebek say farewell to Yuu and Grim. Silver wants to be able to meet them again when he wakes up 😭 AWWWWW

Idia and Ortho go off to have their battle map with Malleus. WaH ORTHO 🥺 He says he and Idia were able to have an adventure at NRC… the same thing he promised when they were kids…

OH MY GOD WTF 💀

Idia uses his UM to open Tartarus and summon his own Phantom army to help him fight Malleus and his army of darkness. Phantom!Ortho rises up too??!!!?!! AND GE GOES BUMBBUMBUMB 😭 and compliments robo!Ortho’s new gear, calling it cute… 🥰

I can't believe all three Shroud brothers came together for this... INCLUDING THE DEAD ONE

Malleus keeps pushing his agenda and Idia counters by saying he hates having others impose their views on him. Does Malleus realize it yet? He’s a ruler of evil, not of good.

AHHHHHH crap OTL Malleus rescinds his blessing (because he finally realizes Idia and co. are only able to stand up to him because of dream hacking. But in the real world, they’re only a smidgen of his strength—so now he’s removing the thons and taking this fight into the real world.

THAT’S WHERE THIS UPDATE ENDS…

I did not think they would stretch the final fight out to be THIS long, but lo and behold, Twst proved me wrong 💀 Again, not a fan of this pacing but I understand what the thought process behind it probably was ("we need to show everyone working together, everyone needs their time to shine!"). I especially felt that Heartslabyul's segment was way too long, but perhaps that's a byproduct of how many members there are there??

asdilbyailbyraiyorqo3iyrt3768ot3aegoffwOI I THINK I SPEAK FOR ALL OF US WHEN I SAY MY MIND WAS BLOWN WHEN I SAW IDIA'S "CHEAT TOOL" WAS TWISTED WONDERLAND ITSELF 💀 To use the design of a mobile gacha game to contain the Big Bad, as well as to summon the heroes to save the day... That's so meta??? I just have no words for this other than that, I've been stunned into silence. How very fitting for the otaku to use THIS as his oh-so-clever solution 💦💦💦

Even though I want more than anything for book 7 to just END already, I will say that I liked how minor characters are being pulled into this fight as well. We have tons of support from the Shroud parents and S.T.Y.X. staff, Ortho going to fetch the NRC staff (I assume they will be appearing later?), other family members pitching in (Maleficia, Baur, OG!Ortho), and even RANDOM MOB STUDENTS. As a mob student appreciator, you cannot believe how much I love that for them. It feels like everyone genuinely plays an important role in this story, not just the main cast of NRC.

The highlight for me as definitely the Shroud brothers reunion. HJBDSBYIAFIS I KNOW IT'S JSUT A DREAM AND OG!ORTHO CAN'T ACTUALLY RISE FROM THE DEAD WHENEVER HE LIKES IRL BUT I LOVE THE IDEA OF WANTING TO STRIKE DOWN A MAN SO BAD YOU DEFY THE LAWS OF LIFE AND DEATH TO DO IT. He gets along so well with robo!Ortho and has a mischievously cute side to him 😭

This update makes mystium and its properties relevant again (it was mentioned like once in the beginning of book 7). It's so cool that what was Lilia's weapon of war back then is now reborn into a world-saving sword and shield for his disciples to use. It feels like a dad passing on his family heirloom to the next generation.

Speaking of Lilia???? Surely he'll rejoin us next time, right????? RIGHT??????? ?? ?? ??? ? Maybe with the staff??? And since the thorns have retreated... maybe we'll even get backup from RSA students and mages from other countries (since this is an international incident now)??????? ???? ? WILL ALL OF TWISTED WONDERLAND COME TOGETHER TO COLLECTIVELY KICK MALLEUS'S ASS...

I feel like Deuce is a really good listener (or, at least, he knows how to be quiet when you're talking, unlike a certain other Heartslabyul first year), even if he doesn't quite get it. besides maybe Jack, he's the most willing to watch your favorite shows with you, read your mangas together, hear about each individual trinket you own... even if he still doesn't understand. it makes you happy <3

Leona is more of a meh guy. "what do you want, a cookie?" is probably in his top ten favorite expressions. things to say when he doesn't care about something. and. listen. he cares about you, he does, but he's not really the type to pretend. he'll let you talk about your collection, though. as long as you're happy with him, you won't seek out Idia and become completely intolerable (his words, not mine!)

WRONG this guy lives with Lilia "hip with the kids" Vanrouge. who is not only a hoarder, but someone who most certainly has a shelf of manga and figures from his favorite games somewhere in the cavernous hole he calls a room. Malleus has probably gotten him one for his birthday (after the 5 hours it took for him to figure out how to buy things online). so like. it's no big deal to him. if you ever mention wanting new manga or figures or... anything... he will give you twice the amount of thaumarks necessary. he's like that

I’m so glad you sent in someone I don’t get often!! Hope you like it!

Flustered!Trey is sort of forced to take your compliments less seriously than you might want him to, but he’s not the kind that likes being the butt of a joke, and the other guys are brutal. He reassures you that it’s all in good fun or that he’s the “big brother” so it’s typical, but both of you know the guys are just jealous. Adeuce totally pegs Trey as the “whisk you away and have 15 kids” type, and they’re notorious for meddling with your relationships. The only proper defense is to get disgustingly mushy until they leave you alone, and Trey’s down if you are!

Flustered!Trey only exists under very specific circumstances- he sidesteps compliments on the daily, but physical touch is much rarer and all the more special. He crumbles when you sleep in with him, and he’s obsessed with you doing the little stuff. Brushing his hair while whispering about how hard he works and how good he looks while doing it?? Folded instantly.

Trey gets red fast whenever you engage PDA confidently. He’s sure there’s some rule about neglecting his vice duties for,, less than professional activities, but does it even matter when you feel so good? Half the dorm is expecting the two of you in an hour, and Riddle’s bound to ask about the flush that clings to him, but he decides it’s worth it to keep touching you. You’ll always be his answer as long as he’s yours <3.

Trey is certified for his “hottest sophomore” award for a reason (even if he’s unaware). He’s very quick to react to teasing because he’s been dealing with it for so long, but it’s never been from someone he’s so interested in,, The two of you have lots of fun though, and there’s never a dull moment. He treasures your time together while it lasts, so as long as you keep talking he’ll never leave you hanging!!

Stray is a fic where Yuu gets hurt in Overblots and Crewel is going a little insane because of it.

Anyway. Hypothetical + events in the bg of it as of Ch 3 (specifically in reply to a very nice very long comment by tinseltina).

If Crewel was officially ordered to take care of Yuu.

The begrudging pity-born affection would probably develop sooner. He's never going to complain or resent having to watch them when they're present or may be present because it's not their fault they were spirited away to Twisted Wonderland, but he would resent the one tasking him for this (probably Crowley). He is still in his prime, he is a bachelor and an accomplished designer and chemist, and while he can find satisfaction in being an instructor, children were never in his plans.

(Yuu is such a nice child though. Very obedient, very unobtrusive, and mature for their age. He wouldn't have to deal with the crying, clumsy mess of an infant or toddler. There is just a child, who is diligent and listens, that he's stuck watching and who's stuck keeping him company. They are grateful and calm and polite and that's not really how he expects children to be, but if he ever did have a child, Yuu would be the standard this hypothetical child would now be compared to. And if Yuu ever would cry or make a mess or be angry, they'd almost always certainly have good reason to do so. )

He would be a good guardian because to be otherwise would leave terrible rumors. He has a reputation to uphold. So he would dress them nice because he dresses himself well and he will feed them healthy, fancy homecooked meals because Yuu is not a dog and needs a human's diet and his standard for human food is what he feeds himself. Sometimes he will take them out with him for dinner because he has his habits and he is not leaving them to eat alone in his apartment. He will get them a coat when winter comes and he will scold them for forgetting theirs if they do, but he does not like wasting time so instead of telling them to grab it, he'll wrap his own fur around them even if he's only driving them to somewhere in Rose Country and they'll simply have to bear with sitting close to him so they can share it if they're heading to NRC from his apartment. He is not mothering them, what are you talking about. If he ever grows fond of their company, it was forced upon him. Humans are social animals and they are stuck together in some degree of close proximity what do you expect him to do, change his brain chemistry?

(We are going to pretend this was assigned immediately following the Entrance Ceremony (maybe Yuu shows up on Crewel doorstep with a letter from the Headmaster after he teleports them there lol), so Grim isn't in the picture. But if he was, Crewel would constantly be comparing how well-behaved Yuu is to how Grim is not).

Even so, Crewel wouldn't ever say taking Yuu in is his choice.

The moment Crewel outright says that he will take care of Yuu, that is no longer just a task or a favor or a bone he's throwing to a stray but a VOW and he will be utterly doomed.

So he won't say it. He won't even think it. He can't.

Heartshackle

Ace, Deuce, Grim, and Yuu are actually managing academics pretty well. This is because Yuu is very tired/bedridden and but constantly trying to keep up with class, and so Adeuce and Grim had to make notes to bring them notes and help explain the lessons they missed to them.

Their earlier exams come back surprisingly high. Deuce is delighted. Ace can't believe he's become such a nerd. Riddle is also helping because he can and he owes Yuu after his OB. Trey gives them warm meals and puddings sometimes because their throat is wrecked from Leona Sand and there may or may not be a Cater in the bg when Adeuce are unavailable.

So Adeuce and Grim made a different deal with Azul, and they don't have anemones because they have different terms and a different contract.

Riddle

As a kid of magical doctors, one of whom expects him to follow her path, Riddle is plagued by Yuu. Yuu is there and a medical anomaly and he has not been able to help them after Kingscholar's OB, though he should be an aspiring healer. Yuu was not entirely suffering throat pains during Crewel's attempts at making something to soothe their throat because Riddle was also offering home remedies that are safe for those without magic and doing his own research but he does not have access to all the things Crewel does as a licensed alchemist and adult.

Riddle's study guides are extended to Yuu and he delivers them to Ramshackle or the infirmary himself, and so it is not difficult for him to stumble upon a conversation among his dormmates about how Ashengrotto is supposedly able to give anything for the right price. He is in the same year as Azul, he knows of the previous year's incident, but any ire he has dulls because when he pulls Ace and Deuce aside to scold them, they are not talking about study guides.

Their grades are fine.

Yuu's voice is not.

Riddle is skeptical. You have to be, with Azul. He will not encourage them, but he has an interest in law and he can look up labor laws and hours and help them determine a reasonable schedule to propose to Ashengrotto that will allow them to perhaps survive as part-time workers and students. He can tell them to read everything and mind the terms and put an escape clause if they really need it. There are no laws against using the Heartslabyul dorm head as an alibi.

The problem is, Riddle is not someone who would be found in Mostro Lounge, and so he is not there when his freshmen make the deal and Yuu gets their voice but not a healing. A stupid mistake he could have and should have accounted for, but he can help them with the aftermath.

Jack

Jack is there because he is there in canon, but also because he was among the ones who left Yuu alone in Ramshackle when the ill-intent and magic of Leona's OB sand that was stuck in them started to do damage. He was a regular visitor in the infirmary, if no one else was there. Yuu has a little cactus in Ramshackle now. It used to be on their infirmary window, and before that, on a ledge in a Savanaclaw dorm.

Crewel is not the only one looking after Yuu in Stray, but because the fic is about him and his limited perspective as a teacher, Yuu seems so much more pitiful.

Thinking back to the faces I met in the mirror chamber, it could've been true. Tho there were many people, hooded furthermore, and there was no way of knowing if somebody was another gender instead.

After finishing the laborious job, I stood to go asking what we needed to do next, but before, I spun fast, aiming for my drug.

Unfortunately, Trey was quicker, and from behind me, he managed to grab the bowl and hold me back with his long arms. When his hand got hold of my waist, I felt him tense briefly, but he recomposed, looking down at me with his ears turning a tinge of red. - No more falling into temptation, okay (Yuu)? - he commented, lingered for just a moment, and then proceeded to give us instructions.

- What was that? - whispered Ace to me. - What? - I asked dumbfounded. - WHA??? You haven'...sigh...WHATever.- and he left

The rivers running from my eyes wouldn't stop. I quietly turned around hoping to cover it from the others, but Trey, who was right next to me, caught sight of my face - (Yuu)...what happened? Have I messed up yours? - he posed a comforting hand on my back. I shook my head and tried denying my poor state with sobs choking each word. -N-no no! I-*hick* it's perfect. A-and don't *sniff worry-y I'm just a baby. - I felt pathetic.

- You definitely are not doing well tho. - - I-it's just...I think I-I'm feeling homesick 'fro-om the taste. - I admitted in a murmur. Pushing me a little he looked where he could find some tissues, but after seeing that it wasn't getting better, he tried the bold move of hugging me.

Welcoming the comfort, I moved my arms from my face to the back of his shirt mumbling - I'm so sorry. - but too caught by my storm of emotions, I didn't realize the implications of my chest pressed against him.

His body went stiff like a wooden plank once again, but after a heavy gulp, he managed to relax. "Perhaps (Yuu) isn't a cute boy after all." He was going to take the information for himself.

Intruders

Me and Grim prepared ourselves for another day of investigations into the mysterious incidents. On the path to the school, I sum up my late-night talking with the mysterious stranger.

-...and I saw those green sparks and this big shadow out of the widow. So I opened it and there was this Huge stunning boy with dark horns on his head. So I was like: " Intruder!" and he was like: "A child of man? Though, aren't you the intruder little lady? " - I imitated his tone - Obviously, I was wearing the crop top and not one of the XXL shirts - and Grim cackled.

- So I went out, 'cause I didn't want to wake you and I told him the all I'm here cause blah blah, don't tell anybody etcetera. So I asked him why he strolled around our dorm? And he said he was there cause he likes exploring ruins, and now we ruined his ruin, cause the abandoned building is no longer abandoned.-

- Rude! - - A little...- - So who was he?- - Wait I'm getting there! - We stopped waiting for our favorite duo. - I asked him and he was all weird about it. At first, astonished, and then he laughed and said " I'd rather you remain unaware". - - Suspicious! - whispered Grim. - "It's for your own benefit. He then looked intensely - Mmh your tie is a little off from the assault. - frowned Riddle - Following the rules starts with your attire. Or else your residents will never listen to you...Although, I guess it's not as bad for you being the only one. - inquired the head of Heartslabyul.

I looked down and out of the corner of my eye, I could see the third year smirking. Before I knew it Riddle had his hands on my clothes, the back of his hand brushing on my chest. I stood still, too stunned to make a move. "Wow (Yuu) is very broad." thought the short boy. - Riddle-San... You are unfair, first telling me not to be touchy with her, and now look at you. -

It took some time for the both of us to register his phrase and still holding onto my tie he twisted his head and stuttered - W-what have you just said? - - *damn it... Ha-ha. Why? Did he say something weird? - I tried to play dumb hoping Cater would doubt his words. Unfortunately, my body was not as much of a good actor, and the boy's green eyes immediately spotted my shade of red. - I said: it's unfair you can be touchy with Her. -

The dorm leader looked back at me and a million thoughts passed through his big eyes, realizing everything at once. Quickly became red from head to toe, then threw himself back in a mess of sorries - I didn't know! Since when?... -

Incredulous, Grim asked - HOW DID YOU KNOW S...*MPHF - I quickly covered his mouth to avoid the entirety of the front yard eavesdropping. - Trey-kun told me! - winked Cater. - And since when Trey knya about it???- exclaimed again the cat. - Since the Mont Blanc tart! He was all over you so I asked and he confessed his suspicions. -

- Ace said the same thing... Dang, I'm in debt with that dummy...- I mumbled recalling his bet. - Was I the only one ignoring this fundamental fact??? - snapped Riddle still full red. - I don't know,...(Yuu)? - the third year quickly threw the fireball at me. - Well, there is Grim, the headmaster, who by the way, was the one saying it would've been troublesome letting this information known. - I explained - Then Ace discovered, Deuce, Trey as it seems, and Cater too, Tsunotaro, and now you! - I listed. - I think...- - Tsuno-Who? - asked the two members of Heartslabyul. - Ah, a new encounter I made yesterday. -

- So you're telling me, someone, you just met, knew it before me???- and the tinge of red on the king of hearts, changed from fluster to anger.

Till reading the manga I thought Cater's name was "Carter" instead.

Not just because it sounded better in my head, but because "Carte" in Italian means "Cards".

⤷ sippy likes to voice out her opinions, so she gets into a yelling match from time to time with riddle when she disagrees with his behavior. ( “IT’S JUST A TART, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!” 💀 /j but yeah something like that-)

⤷ riddle hates how she doesn’t give two shits about his rule. ( “Nuh-uh.” “What do you mean “Nuh-Uh” ?!?”) and she also defends adeuce when they break the rules, much to their surprise.

at the end of book 1 they both had a truce and became some sort of buddies to each other! they both share an interest in small critters <3

a short angst scenario for them would be sippy feels bad to see him as a dad because she doesn’t know if crewel sees her as a daughter but he actually feels the same😔.

I hope everyone knows that if Twisted Wonderland wasn't made by Disney, AT LEAST half of the cast would swear in every sentence.

Ace would have the dirtiest mouth and Riddle would make him get collared all the time for that. Deuce has slip-up curses, like hitting his foot and going "fuCKING SHIT!". Cater has a secret magicam account where Riddle isn't there and he curses about people he has beef online. Probs one of them is Idia. Trey and Riddle are the clean mouth ones, but Trey tries convincing Riddle that "it is okay to drop an F bomb if ya can't hold it". Trey wants to say fuck.

Leona swears and if someone gets bothered by it he will talk about how "they aren't kids anymore to be afraid of saying fuck". Ruggie does it when he is mad but he makes it his life goal to make Jack say 1 singular fuck.

Azul is calm and collected until he is absolutely alone where he will scream in his pillow all curses and swears he knows and can say. This is a daily thing. Jade swears when he wants to make people uneasy, but he doesn't like it as much. Of every 5 words that leave Floyd's mouth, 7 of them are swear words. He creates the most elaborate ones too, all his brain power goes into swearing every generation of someone's family when he is truly mad.

Kalim is prohibited from swearing not because he is a pure bean but because if he starts a swearing spree he DOESN'T STOP. It is to control what others will hear more than Kalim himself. Jamil does the nonswear cursing or Christian cursing like "I hope your pillow has both sides warm this night". he will pray for others' downfall.

Vil doesn't allow himself to swear, he is better than that. Rook doesn't swear to not be a bad example to other pomefiores. Epel had the tape-on-mouth treatment to cure his sailor's mouth. Half of the time he swears under his breath just to make sure no one listens to him, but if he is mad he will go all out.

Idia has the gamer swearing and probably has broken a lot of laws by his swearing online. Cyberbullies noobs on Roblox sorta guy. Ortho has not been programmed with a library of swear words but if he walks with Adeuce any longer he will learn how to do Christian swearing.

Malleus does the old man swearing, and so does Lilia, but to mock people. Lilia knows how to actually curse, but he has self-control. Silver is technically allowed to swear but doesn't want to be a bad influence. Sebek is not allowed to swear because he is already too loud as it is, imagine if swearing

i just learned of your existence like. barely 2 days ago, so all i know is that you ship your oc with leona and nothing else-

but what are dee’s relationships like with all the other people at NRC?

first off anon i love you thank you for asking me i love to yap especially about dee

ok so dee is a first year so hes good friends with the other first year characters but specifically ace and deuce. they are the dumbass trio and when they are together all of their collective iq drops immensely. also dee is prone to tackling them if he has been separated to long they are his emotional support dumb dumbs. he does call out ace on being an asshole though, and hes always really proud of deuce for working so hard all the time.

with the other first years hes pretty friendly with jack because during book 3 jack helped him out a lot which made dee respect him a lot. hes friendly with epel and likes to encourage the menace behavior when vils not around to tell them off. at first he like, really disliked sebek, but as he got used to him hes started to think of him as a friend too. just a friend who annoys the living hell out of him lmao

hes not too close with cater or trey but he finds them fun in their own ways, he wants to ask trey to teach him how to bake but he hasnt yet cuz hes scared treys always busy with vice housewarden stuff and doesnt want to bother him. he finds cater fun because his internet-ey personality reminds dee of some of the friends he had back home.

now with riddle he sort of pitys him, respects him, and has a small disdain for him all at the same time. knowing about riddles mom reminds dee of his own, and he wants to be able to connect with riddle over that except riddles reaction to having a controlling mother is very different than dees. dee feels that riddle doesnt see how horrible his mother was, and gets angry on riddles behalf because he feels like riddle still thinks his mother was in the right and he gets angry over how obnoxious over rules riddle can be, but he respects riddles leadership and strength too

dee tries to be friends with ruggie since ruggie is essentially leonas second in command, than and he thinks ruggie is fun, but he doesnt like that ruggie sometimes tries to take advantage of the more gullible students. obviously more people than just ruggie do this but basically dee expects better from ruggie because he actually thinks highly of him

with the twins dee finds them really fun and likes to hang out with them just to see the chaos they cause, but hes also kinda scared if jade. not so much floyd because floyd always acts on impulse and such but jade is a planner and is more manipulative than his brother, and smart people like that intimidate dee more

azul...long story short dee thinks hes hilariously obnoxious. he avoids azul unless in groups because he knows azul will take any opportunity to somehow get dee (or anyone else) in his debt, but the time he is around azul he finds it so funny how much 'theater kid' energy he has. any intimidation is gone because all dee can see him as is a guy putting on the most dramatic performance ever

kalim is dees #1 bestie after adeuce. dee saw the one genuinely happy nice lively dude and claimed him as best friend. there are few actually hyper or high energy ppl at nrc who arent high energy due to being...crazy so hanging out with kalim is like a breath of fresh air for dee. they send silly cat memes to eachother.

dee has a lot of respect for how responsible jamil is, like a LOT of respect. but at the same time he has a grudge. in dees mind he cant get over the fact that rather than tell anyone at all or attempt to solve the problems in his life jamil just seemingly gave up before trying and bottled everything up until he lashed out at kalim. like i said dee really likes kalim so seeing how jamil hurt him dee would have a hard time forgiving that, even if he knew why. he just doesnt get why jamil is so quick to blame kalim for it all when kalim obviously thinks so highly of jamil and cares for jamil a lot. its similar to how he feels about riddle. there is respect there, but there are also actions he just cant get over.

ok so with vil, dee definitely disagrees with how strict he can be sometimes, but he gets his strictness is his way of trying to help others become their best self so he would be less mad at vils strictness than riddles. other than that hed be #2 vil hypeman (second only to rook). dee has an appreciation for film so hed ask vil a lot of questions, and vil would probably try to get him to join the film club (hes an honorary member lowkey lmao). essentially those two would be gossipy friends, dee vented to him when he saw leonas vargas camp fit and they bonded over how shit it was and how so many people at nrc have such a rough fashion sense.

dee is kinda scared of rook but also entirely gets why hes so weird. doesnt mean hes gonna go out of his way to hang out with him tho. whenever hes alone hes basically on guard in case rook might be watching (he can never tell anyway which makes it all more anxiety inducing). he will never understand rooks obsession with neige though. he doesnt really like that rook also lowkey stalks leona, but he cant blame him cause he gets it

dee is stealing ortho from ignihyde and adopting him as his brother instead. once again one of the few high energy not too insane people so dee likes to be around him, but also dee always wanted a little brother and does not think idia is giving ortho enough attention. other than that dee has little complaints about idia. he finds him a little whiny, especially with book 6 events, but thats sorta just how idia is and dee cant imagine him acting any other way. dees tried to bond over nerdy stuff with idia before, but ends up just talking to ortho about it because he gets a sort of pretentious, 'im a real fan' vibe from idia sometimes.

dee doesnt really have a typically close friendship with malleus, they dont really talk about in depth things or anything like that, but dee really values his friendship with malleus. sometimes you just need a friend to be chill with, like there are friends you want to vent your problems to and then there are friends who you just know nothing about but you dont care cuz yall are vibing and thats malleus. he likes going on night time walks with him because night walks are just nice, and theyre more fun with company.

dee thinks silvers awesome. thats all. he thinks hes cool and basically has a 'omg silver :0' moment every time they talk. he wants to become better friends with silver, but basically every time he sees him silvers asleep and dee doesnt want to wake him. dee also thinks lilias very fun, but he also is like...constantly suspicious about him. he just feels somethings off about him or that theres something hes not saying so hes constantly like staring him down like '...what are you hiding man' but thinks lilias pretty cool

dee is scared of crewel because how does no one else find it weird hes treating them like dogs, but i the fit is iconic and being called a good boy is not something he can complain about

dee has no respect for vargas. that man is ridiculous and oh so dense. he avoids vargas at all costs

dee doesnt have a strong opinion on trein, but he thinks its funny he always has his cat in class with him. he has basic respect for trien because hes been given no reason not to.

dee thinks sam is the coolest person alive. dee goes to the store to pretend to look around just to talk to sam. he sees him as like the cool older cousin who is so fun and who you really want to be like when you grow up. dee is however unsure if he is allowed to try to become friends with the store owner 7 years older than him. someone please explain the social rules about this situation my boy is autistic and needs help.

this was way longer than i thought but i really liked talking about all this because for some of the characters i actually hadnt put too much thought and its good to think about this stuff and obviously i love to yap about dee so thank you for the ask anon

Did they ever tackle how the other dorm leaders reacted to the whole anemone issue during the Octavinelle arc? Like i know Riddle wasn't happy when he found out that ADeuce got into a contract with Azul and have to serve him since they failed to complete their deal but I dont think we got Leona's reaction to what happened to his dormmates since Im pretty sure I saw Savanaclaw npcs among the anemones. Like were they unaware or did they decide "let them face the consequences"?

Nope, we pretty much only have Riddle and Leona’s perspectives on the anemone incident of book 3. I’m pretty sure the other dorm leaders were not ignorant about what had happened; Azul had 225 students out of a school of 800ish under his thumb, which would significantly impact the school’s ecosystem and would be hard to ignore. Besides, what dorm leader would ignore anemones suddenly sprouting on their students’ heads and NOT get to the bottom of things?

It’s not too hard to imagine that the other dorm leaders were none too pleased to find out the news but also didn’t intervene for whatever reason (be it “they deserve to face these consequences”, knowing that they can’t do anything about it, etc.). In all likelihood, it was probably done out of convenience for the writers and/or to keep the story centered on the initial characters. At this point in the main story, we haven’t met characters relevant to other dorms (like Epel in Pomefiore), so we’d really feel little attachment seeing generic mob students suffering as Vil chides them or whatever. We can still get emotionally invested because our personal friends, Adeuce and Grim, are in dire straits.

Of course, Riddle was NOT happy with the circumstances (how dumb do you have to be to make a contract with Azul?). According to Deuce in 3-7, he was scolded and made to write a paper to reflect.

Leona’s opinion, meanwhile, is moreso implied. In 3-16, he says that anyone that would willingly and repeatedly make contracts with Azul are stupid. Leona has also made deals with Azul, but it always came at a steep cost to himself so he tries to do so sparingly. However, Leona also continuously characterizes those who get suckered as “dumb” and “dim-witted”, implying he does not think highly of those who fall for Azul’s schemes. This leads me to think that Leona’s feelings err on “you made your bed, now go lie in it”.

But!! I think it’s possible that Leona’s motivation to dust Azul’s contracts threefold: eliminate his own contract with Azul, help Yuu and co. out (because they’re annoying him, lol), AND to free his (idiot) dorm members from Azul’s clutches. We’ve seen Leona act very similarly “selfless” (while operating to achieve his own goals) in book 2, so it wouldn’t surprise me if he continued this plotting in other books.

One thing I noticed while reviewing book 3; there are only anemone’d students from FOUR of the dorms: Heartslabyul, Savanaclaw, Scarabia, and Pomefiore. Octavinelle, Ignihyde, and Diasomnia students were not reaped.

Now, it’s possible that this occurred due to limited game assets, as a similar issue occurred with the game showing beastmen mobs only in Savanclaw and in no other dorm. However, the manga debunked this quickly by showing beastmen in Heartslabyul and humans in Savanavlaw. I therefore decided to consult the manga to see if I could find Octavinelle, Ignihyde, or Diasomnia mobs among Azul’s anemones.

The Episode of Octavinelle manga depicts many mob students also indebted to Azul. It wasn’t that helpful since the pages are in black and white, making it difficult to know which dorms they belong to. However, we do see that Ignihyde students were anemone'd:

Do you think Azul didn’t bother with his own dorm members to maintain the image of being a trustworthy and kind dorm leader/senpai? Maybe the Diasomnia kids were too strong-willed to fall for his schemes? Or perhaps they really are among the count of anemones, but just not shown clearly in the game/manga. (I can’t see Azul passing up the opportunity to get more clients indebted to him, regardless of dorm affiliation, since getting enough students of one dorm under him could grant him leverage with the dorm leader to get them back www)

Cater would literally livestream anything slightly interesting (or horrifying) on insta (guinaifen refrence).

Sebek, tweels, ortho, idia, rook, ruggie, ace have all eaten weird ass shit as kids and people still wonder how they're alive.

Idia, cater, silver, Riddle all have anemia / lack iron.

Idia, cater, Riddle, jade, deuce all wear contacts cuz they have poor eyesight.

To add onto that Deuce used to wear glasses in elementary, n middle school but when he became a delinquent he dropped them (and or got contacts).

Idia makes actually creative insults in a short amount of time.

Idia owns like 3 separate closets to collect things abt his hyperfixations / special interests at the time.

Jade actually find snakes fascinating.

Floyd, ace, lilia, ruggie, kalim, like all genres all music, it really depends on their mood.

Floyd, kalim, n vil are all dance buddies.

Floyd has probably kept multiple lizards / reptiles as pets in the past.

Lilia paints diasomnias nails whenever he feels like it.

Kalim, Adeuce, Floyd, Lilia, Ortho, Idia and Epel are really good at ddr / arcade games in general !! (cherry juice go on arcade dates).

Victim #1 - Riddle

He's disgusted at himself and his actions. Who wouldn't be after reacting in such an uncouth matter? His dorm members still keep their distance, eggshells more like glass shards as they tiptoe around him.

Yuu finds them after a throwaway comment from Adeuce about their dorm leader looking even wearier than usual

He's holed up in one of the study rooms, the floor is adorned with books and sticky notes, study materials repeated over and over, it's less of studying than a distraction, not that it's working.

He doesn't notice Yuu is there until he feels the gentle weight of a hand on his head, and the warmth it gives. Something tells him it's Yuu, and something else tells him that it's okay.

He cries there, without a single word exchanged between the two.

When times are hard, or when Adeuce is being especially awful to handle, he'll come over just for some quiet time, to get his head pat

Victim #2 - Leona

Leona is someone who hates being indebted to anyone, and he now owes his life to a bunch of meddling kids, and Yuu, some magicless nobody. It's embarrassing, not just for him but also his actions. Like a child who threw a tantrum.

I wanna say that Ruggie sent Yuu to talk to him. not for any reason in particular, other than the fact that Yuu is really helpful to others.

He's at the spelldrive practice, lazing off per usual, but this time while glaring at everyone. He shouldn't be mad at them, but it's sort of an automatic response.

He notices Yuu, but didn't expect them to approach, less to reach over and. pat. him. it's humiliating, especially in front of the crowd, but the sheer balls of their actions is the only thing keeping Yuu from disintegrating into a pile of sand.

"What in the land of the great seven do you think you are doing, herbivore."

"sharing good vibes."

If Yuu runs their fingers through his hair, he'll melt. if anyone asks, he hates it. if no one is there, he might mimic the action, and then curse himself when he realizes it.

Victim #3 - Azul

It's easy for Azul to hide behind the guise of work, to distract himself with ideas of promotions and menu additions and money-making schemes of the legal sort, but the usual chaotic grin wouldn't show when he was huddled over his desk.

Yuu doesn't have the money to get one of his little consultations, but that's okay, because the twins have decided they didn't want to deal with his BULLSHIT cruel increase in hours

Even buried in work, everything is organized and tidy, so much so that it doesn't look any different from the last few times Yuu snuck in, which is insane. If the twins hadn't noticed anything, they doubt anyone would have.

He's on edge, tearing his sight from the paper scribbles and readjusting his glasses.

He isn't given the chance to speak before Yuu stomps over and places a hand on their head. "You deserve a break, don't you?"

The Prefect is magicless, he knows this, but it feels like they put a sleeping spell on him, a heavy weight like that of a warm duvet blanketing over him.

It's the first he's relaxed, but he's too exhausted to say his thanks, resting his head on the desk as Yuu pets him.

Victim #4 - Jamil

Jamil is perpetually stressed. He has to worry about Kamil's food, Kalim's daily safety, Kalim's chores, Kalim's grades, Kalim Kalim Kalim, it's no wonder he's overblotted, but just because he has doesn't mean he'll be given any sort of break.

It's a bunch of Scarabia students who beg Yuu for help, since they were one of the handful of people who's actually faced off against his overblot, and who isn't terrifying to talk to.

Without any other attendants to help with Kalim or the dorm duties, Jamil would be found carrying stacks upon stacks of items to and fro down the halls

Yuu practically shouts his name, and a whole chill raced up his spine from Kalim trauma, but relief hit hard when he realized it was just the Prefect. He doesn't know why they are so worked up about him doing his job.

Yuu would offer a hand, and before he can refuse, it settles on top of his hood, pressing down just the slightest. When he looks back on it, he should have remarked that they would mess up his hair, but he was too stunned to even speak.

They would take some of the stuff in his arms, and spend the rest of the day just helping do small chores, and in return, get a lovely meal and a genuine thank you from Jamil.

He won't ever mention the headpat again, but if by some lucky miracle he gets some time off, he'll seek the companionship of the Prefect.

Victim #5 - Vil

Vil is hard to find stressed, because he knows that stress messes with his sleep and that messes with his skin and he can't risk that, so he has spa days - that always get interrupted, yoga and meditation - that are ruined when Rook enters and spews verse after verse about such a lovely day being spent outside, well fine, he still has his cheat days to fall back on, except Epel ate all the berries.

He has no choice but to escape, and whats the one place he knows for sure he won't be bothered? Ramshackle, as long as he brings some tuna to bribe Grim away.

Yuu is the one to open the door, surprised but not bothered by his presence, and he asks if they would let him stay for just a few hours to just... hide.

He ends up falling asleep on the couch, which is one of the worst things he could have done, but when he wakes, he finds a pillow under his head and Yuu patting his hair gently.

While it wasn't part of the plan, it's certainly got a calming effect. Probably not as useful as a nice soak, but certainly something to keep in mind the next time he needs a quick pick-me-up

Idia - head pat headcannons

Obviously Yuu is the one to initiate, probably because the bitch called them 'the real life equivalent of a discord kitten' and he got so scared that to stave off their wrath he had to meow for them Kawaii Anime Girl Style

Malleus - head pat headcannons

So idk I've never met a dude with horns on his head, and I would think that the horns kinda be like tusks on an elephant, or like, a tooth. Not a lot of feeling, but they still got nerves

But they are still the symbol of his might and power, so it's gonna be hard to get him to let anyone get near them. I feel like it would almost be seen as an insult if he were to lower his head and expose his horns.

Yuu asked very politely with no ill intentions, and he knows that, so it's probably why he does let the Little Child of man inspect the horns.

What he doesn't expect is for them to place a hand right between, and just. pet him. He would chuckle, but he wouldn't complain.

This Child of Man always manages to surprise him somehow.

he does his best to take care of you, but he knows close to nothing about human biology or anything like that

Grim ends up taking you to school for help.

You two end up walking past the meeting room for the HouseWardens, as the meeting was just ending.

Riddle is silently panicking while trying to check you over while scolding the both of you but mostly grim for coming to school.

Leona doesn't give a fuck and just walks back to his dorm to sleep and skip the rest of the school day.

Azul hands you his spare handkerchief to wipe yourself off with, to which Riddle sighs and takes said handkerchief to wipe your face for you.

Kalim panics a little but tries to cheer you up by handing you one of his bracelets to play with,

Deuce would try to make you the soup that his mom used to make for him when he was sick, but he failed and Trey ended up helping and even making a couple of your favorite goodies for you too.

Jack has a few little siblings so he knows how to cheer up sick little kids, he'll prob bring you a children's book that would help his siblings when they were sick.

Epel brings you his family's apple juice that you love so much.

Sebek doesn't go anywhere your sick ass, what if he gets sick and accidentally gets Waka-sama sick?!?

Cater also wouldn't come but would send his good wishes with one of his dorm members.

Ruggie would bring you some donuts.

Floyd would come and try to annoy hang out with you but Jade would drag him away so you can get your rest.

Rook does a quick in-and-out check-in on you, he'll see how your doin', say a few fancy words, and leave.

Jamil is another one that doesn't go anywhere near you, and keeps Kalim away too.

Ortho would drop by to say hello and give you some advice he looked up on how to deal with sickness.

Silver is taken to visit you by Lilia, he gives you some words of encouragement, then passes out on one of the other beds.

Malleus would come later at night when your fast asleep, he'll bundle you up in your blanket like a little burrito and hold you for a little while, maybe take you on a walk around the campus for some fresh air.

Crowley doesn't even know your sick unit like 3 weeks after your all better.

Btw the ppl who check in on you the most are, Riddle, the ADeuce duo, Lilia, Kalim would try but like I said Jamil would keep him away, Malleus, and Grim is there permanently by your side the entire time.
