Representation of romantic relationships in Fairy Tail

Hey, guys today we will be going through the romantic relationships of the anime fairy tail if you haven't seen it I am telling you to stop-go watch a few episodes and return so I won't spoil stuff for you. Like my post for Winx Club, I'm starting from the bottom up also I'm sticking the main cast.

#4 Jerza (The Knight and the Spellcaster)

Firstly I'm mad that we never got to see a proper kiss from these two we all saw how they loved each other. Unfortunately, these two are damaged I know he was possessed and all but the whole memory loss thing was painful. Then when they returned after the 7-year time skip Mr Blueberry was afraid to freaking date her blaming it on his path to redemption. However, these two need to sit down and talk I love them so much but they need to grow more and get a proper ending but regardless I love this ship to the point I cried for them.

#3 Gruvia ( The Stalker and the Tsundere)

This started out as a one-sided love/obsession's when Juvia fell for Gray now her reason is legit enough for me plus she grew to love him for his faults as well. However, the bento of his face and the stalking was a bit off-putting I mean at this point I would like to bring up Marinette Dupain Cheng from MLB she is a toned-down Juvia if you get where I'm coming from. I love the girls but their love was a bit weird. Now Gray needed someone to support him he was broken and had a lot of bad memories like Erza and Lucy he kept them hidden until it slapped them in the face. Finally, when he saw Juvia in the same way it paid off but these two only officially returned feelings in the last episode of the show AGAIN I DIDN'T GET WHAT I WANTED FOR THIS SHIP.

#2 GALE (Beauty and the Beast)

Anybody who disagrees will get ignored. These two started off badly he beat her up and left her pinned to a tree yes but when he learned the meaning of Fairy Tail and family he was one of those persons everyone liked eventually. When Laxus was beating him up he still defended Levy he even apologized to her later not only that but over time he grew to trust her and stay by her side. They have saved each other's lives and had one of the best developments ever plus Levy being pregnant with his baby just topped it off.

#1 Nalu ( The Dragon King and the Celestial Princess)

These two had the only normal growth to a relationship they went from strangers to friends to lovers well not lovers yet but its already confirmed. They work together, eat together and in some ways live together. Natsu protects her and cares about Lucy on a whole other level the lengths he goes for her just prove my point. Lucy does more than take care and listens to him she fights for Natsu these two protect and love one another more than anyone else in the guild. Plus in the end, they lean on one another they would die for the other. They grow in power with one another and everyone knows that they are in love.

Trope Table: Five-Man Band

Today I’m delving into one of three main trope archetypes for building a main cast, the other two being a Four Temperament Ensemble, and the Three Amigos, which I will cover in later posts. I’m going to lay out all 5 of the roles, the variations on the roles they can fill, team dynamics, and jumbled sorting. Since they’re the image provided, we’ll use the Teen Titans as our example:

Robin is The Leader of the aloof mature variety. He’s a nimble acrobat and an intelligent detective that tends to follow protocol, and values discipline.

Beast Boy is The Lancer and Robin’s polar opposite. Beast Boy is inexperienced, absent-minded, comical, and extroverted. He tends to favor turning into large, strong animals, but he’s also turned into small or slippery animals to escape from danger, making him far more unpredictable.

Starfire is The Heart, acting as the emotional center that keeps the group together, quells in-fighting, and follows her heart.

Raven is The Smart Guy, with a full library of ancient creepy spell books in her room, awareness the others lack, and a preference for logic over emotion.

Cyborg is The Big Guy, not only being physically bigger than everyone, but serving as the primary muscle. Granted, Starfire is as strong, if not stronger than Cyborg, but she relies more on her starbolts, while he favors melee combat with his fists.

Historically, the Heart would be the only girl in the group. Take a look at the 80s Voltron, and Allura is the only female character for miles, same with Star Wars, He-Man, and many other shows of this era. To the point that the Heart used to be known as The Chick. In modern uses of the trope, the team typically has a 3:2 gender ratio in favor of boys. The Heart is still almost always a girl, along with one other member. While full female teams exist, such as the Sailor Scouts, the Winx Club or W.I.T.C.H., an all-male Five-Man Band doesn’t really tend to exist as often. Robin Hood’s Merry Men or King Arthur’s Knights come close, but the only example I know of that’s entirely male is the cast of the Journey to the West.

THE LEADER

The Leader is pretty easy to pick out of the group. In most promotional images, they’re right smack in the middle, front and center. They call the shots, make the plans, and command their team. They’re usually the main character with four supporting character teammates that are strong where they’re weak, but other times, they’re no more important than the rest of their team. Robin is sometimes treated as the main character, but he really doesn’t get that much more focus than the other titans. Superman is probably the biggest name in the Justice League, but he’s likewise not given more importance than anyone else in the team. In other teams, the Leader is the main character, such as with Bloom in Winx Club, Usagi in Sailor Moon, and Aang in Avatar: The Last Airbender. These are stories where the leader is the center of the narrative, and their friends are there to support the leader on their hero’s journey. Sometimes, the leader is not the main character. In Scooby-Doo, Fred is the leader, but every time the gang splits up, the camera always follows Shaggy and Scooby, the Lancer and Big Guy. In Fairy Tail, Lucy Hartfelia is the narrator, but Natsu is the narrative center and team leader. Likewise, in Avatar: the Last Airbender, Aang is the center of the narrative, but Katara is the one telling the story. She is our lens into the world. Aside from an odd tendency to be associated with fire (Bloom, the red power ranger, natsu dragneel, sun wukong, Keith (as the former red paladin of Voltron), and technically Aang), there's no hard rule about what a leader's skills and abilities are. Goku is a brainless muscle head, Aang, Bloom, Usagi, and Natsu are basically wizards, Keith is primarily a swordsman with a knack for driving and piloting, Superman is a flying nigh invincible demigod with super strength, and Fred Jones is usually a jock with a knack for setting convoluted traps. Typically though, if your leader is the main character, they will usually also be the strongest, or have a cool, unique power that will make them the strongest later on. If the leader is not the main character, they will generally be a balanced fighter that tends to favor close-quarters combat, such as a sword and shield, martial arts, super strength, or similar skills.

THE LANCER

The stereotype of the Lancer is that they’re the brooding loner of the group, but this is not the true definition of the Lancer. While it is true that many Lancers do fit this description, the true role of the Lancer is to be the foil of the Leader. The Lancer can really be anything, as their only requirement is not being like the Leader. If the Leader is headstrong, the Lancer will be patient. If the leader is inexperienced, the Lancer will be put together. If the Leader is serious, the Lancer will be a goofball. If the Leader is uptight, the Lancer will be lax. The Lancer is often considered to be the second-in-command, but this is not a set-in-stone rule. Beast Boy is the Lancer of the Teen Titans, but Cyborg is the second-in-command. Likewise, Zuko is the Lancer of the Gaang, but Sokka is the second-in-command. The skills of the Lancer are hard to define, as again, they are highly dependent on the Leader setting the standard. Typically, a Leader will focus on close quarters combat, or sword and shield combat. But a Lancer could be a dexterous Rogue, a long-range archer, a hulking muscle head, or a ranged spellcaster. Any one of these fighting styles makes them a counter to their Leader. In the Justice League, Superman is the leader with super strength and super endurance. As his foil and Lancer, Batman is a sneaky sleuth who leads with his wits, not with his fists. Sometimes, the Leader and Lancer will have similar power sets. In the anime Fairy Tail, Natsu Dragneel has fire magic, while his Lancer, Gray Fullbuster, has complimentary ice magic. Both are wizards, but their powers are polar opposites. In Dragon Ball Z, Goku and Vegeta have almost the exact same abilities. They may have a unique attack, but they are otherwise the same in power sets. The only real difference is that Goku is far stronger than Vegeta. Their Leader/Lancer dynamic is more about their characters and personalities than their power sets.

THE HEART

The emotional center of the party, the Heart is almost always a girl, and in a band with less than 5 members, she'll likely be eaten by the Big Guy, which is why Bolin is the Big Guy and the Heart of Team Avatar. Depending on the story, the Heart can be the mother hen of the team, the comedic relief that breaks the tension and brings much needed levity, the emotionally intelligent counselor who guides the team through their emotional issues, the party's moral compass that reminds them that treason and insurance fraud are naughty, or the optimist who reminds her friends of what they can do when they work together. Sometimes the Heart is simply the social center of the team. Iron Man may call the shots, but a lot of heroes follow Captain America, compelled primarily by his paragon goodness and charm. In terms of role in the team, she's usually the healer, a mage, or otherwise specializes in ranged combat with magic, super powers, or a bow. Sometimes she takes a page from the big guy by acting as a shield for her party, usually through force fields or an actual shield. Typically, the Heart is the weakest of the party, alongside the Smart Guy, but she can absolutely be a powerhouse. Katara is an optimistic mother hen powerhouse and doubles as the Gaang's healer, Starfire is a flying tanky blaster, the Flash is a comedic social center, Captain America is a moral compass physical powerhouse and shield for the Avengers, Daphne is the face of the Mystery Inc gang, and Numbuh 3 is a ditzy comedic goofball. Outside of just being the emotional center, sometimes the Heart will be the most merciful, charitable, or empathetic member of the team. In a surprising twist, Team Voltron, has not 1, not 2, but 3 Hearts. Hunk is the sweet, sensitive peacekeeper, Shiro is the inspiring moral compass mother hen, and Lance is the goofball social center of the group. Lance is the bridge between the Ace Pilots: Shiro and Keith, and the Garrison duo: Pidge and Hunk, due to his rivalry with Keith, and his pre-existing friendship with Hunk. You could even argue he's the bridge to the aliens Allura and Curran, mostly because his lion is the one that brings the Paladins to Arus. Thus, in the original team formation, I would label Lance the Heart of Voltron. He’s the center of the team that brings everyone together.

THE SMART GUY

The Smart Guy is rather simple, his role in the group is to be the smartest person in the team. Due to society’s views that only math and the “hard sciences” are academically viable, the Smart Guy will tend toward subjects such as: Physics, Algebra, Trigonometry, Chemistry, Biology or Genetics, Coding and Programing, or Robotics. As a result, soft sciences like Ethics, Communication, Sociology, Psychology, and Linguistics are all likely to be overlooked as viable areas of interest for the Smart Guy, and even some other hard sciences like History, Geology, Ecology, and Zoology are all very unlikely subjects for them to be experts in. The Smart Guy will usually know something about History, but it’s unlikely to be their primary focus, and they’re very unlikely to know uncommon facts since that would require the showrunners do actual research, unless it’s a fantasy or sci-fi setting, in which case your Smart Guy will be an exposition fairy for worldbuilding and info-dumping. However, while the Smart Guy is defined by being the smartest of the group, they don’t have to actually be that intelligent. Sokka from Avatar: the Last Airbender is looked to by the Gaang as the idea guy, acting as a strategist. But when it comes to his book learning, Sokka isn’t very smart. Apart from the Heart, the Smart Guy is the team member most likely to be a girl, giving the two girls a dynamic of girly girl and tomboy, and logic vs emotion. As such, the Smart Guy and the Heart have become foils to one another, but only when they’re both the same gender. In a fantasy setting and even some superhero media, the Smart Guy will usually be a mage or otherwise supernatural in some capacity, and will be knowledgeable about history, magic, and maybe ancient languages, magizoology, or religion depending on the world and magic system. In a science-fiction setting, the Smart Guy might be a hacker, an alien, a roboticist, an engineer, or some other variety of scientist. In terms of combat capability, Smart Guys tend to fall into one of three categories. If the Smart Guy has actual raw power, they’ll usually be a mage that had to study magic to use it, or they’ll be a superhero, with bonus points if those super powers relate to their intellect in some way, most often through psionic abilities. They may also be an alien, supernatural being, or a robot with built in abilities from their race or programming. Otherwise, your Smart Guy will be the weakest of the group in power, but augment their capabilities one of two ways. They’ll either be weak, but skilled, relying on cunning or application of skill to overcome stronger opponents, or they’ll be weak, but rely on powerful items or weapons to give them fighting ability, whether they wear a mech suit they built themselves, or gain magical powers from an enchanted amulet. In terms of party dyanimics, the Smart Guy tends to be shy, antisocial, or introverted. They also work well as an audience surrogate in an unfamiliar setting because they’re the most likely to ask questions about how things work, or wanting to learn more about the lore of the unfamiliar world. In an all-female team, the Smart Guy has a high probability of being a tomboy, though she could just have a more reserved preppy style. She’s also more likely to be shy and insecure next to the other girls. The Smart Guy is supposed to be the smartest teammate, but sometimes they hog all of the braincells, leaving them surrounded by idiots. Velma doesn't need the mystery inc gang because she solves the entire mystery by herself, and is an expert in just about any subject. Even if she's never displayed knowledge on a subject before, she'll suddenly pull the information out of her butt when it’s needed because no one else is allowed to be smart. Compare that to the Teen Titans because they do this super well. Raven is the standard Smart Guy. Logic over emotion, highly trained in magic with psychic superpowers, knowledgeable about demons, portals, and magical artifacts, and has a library in her bedroom. But everyone has their own intelligence. Raven knows magic, history, and rituals, but Robin knows investigations and criminal profiling, Cyborg knows technology and security, Starfire knows aliens, space, and languages, and Beast Boy knows television, movies, and pop culture. Everyone has something, all without detracting from Raven's role as the brains of the team.

THE BIG GUY

The Big Guy is the party member that is usually the tank of the group. They're the tough guy who can shrug off a critical blow. Sometimes, your Big Guy will be physically bigger than everyone else, but other times, he'll just be extremely tough and strong. If your main character leader is not the strongest team member at the start of the story, that spot tends to go to either the Lancer or the Big Guy. Natsu may have rare dragonslayer magic, but even he is terrified of Erza Scarlet. If he couldn't use the Avatar state, Toph could probably beat Aang in a straight fight, not accounting for airbending being invisible to her. But without a ring to get knocked out of, they'd probably end in a draw at least. However the Big Guy isn't always big, strong, and scary. Sometimes he's a Gentle Giant, or he's big in personality. Cyborg is bigger and stronger than most of the Titans, but he shines as the Big Guy due to his loud and boisterous bravado. If the leader's whole thing is being strong and tough, then the Big Guy will be almost as big and strong as the Leader. Wonder Woman has super strength and endurance, just like Superman, but he's the Leader, so she fills the role of the extra muscle. The Smart Guy and the Big Guy act as foils, so typically, the Big Guy will be strong, but stupid while the Smart Guy is intelligent, but weak. If the moody loner role isn't fulfilled by the Leader, Lancer, or Smart Guy, you can find the gruff and grizzled loner serving as the Big Guy. However for the most part, the Big Guy will usually be quite extroverted, full of vigor and good cheer. Other times the Big Guy will be a serious, stoic, strong silent type, especially if he acts as something of a bodyguard to another team member, usually the Heart or the Smart Guy. If the Heart and the Big Guy are the two girls of a team, we may see them as foils along the demure vs amazon side. In Avatar: the Last Airbender, Katara is relieved to finally have another girl on the team, only for Toph to immediately join in with the immature jokes of the two boys, and this sort of tension never really goes away from their interactions. They’re just two very different women, and while they are friends, it’s unclear if they ever fully move past this clash of personalities. However, in Fairy Tail, demure girly girl Lucy Hartfelia never really clashes with could-and-would-kick-your-ass-upon-request Erza Scarlet. So, it’s by no means a hard-and-fast rule that your demure girly girl Heart and your fierce amazon queen Big Guy have to clash with each other. In an all-female team, the big guy has a high chance of being the most butch or tomboyish of the girls, more interested in sports, or more traditionally masculine interests. However, this doesn’t always impact her wardrobe. Buttercup is the muscle of the Powerpuff Girls, but she still wears a dress.

THE LEADER/LANCER DYNAMIC

Let’s get the big one out of the way first, yes, they have a strong tendency to get shipped together. And because the typical arrangement is Leader, Lancer, Big Guy as Male, Heart and Smart Guy as Female, the Leader and Lancer dynamic includes a lot of staple gay shipping tropes, and many popular gay ships are a leader and his lancer. However, despite the stereotype of Leaders and Lancers bickering constantly and being rivals, this is not the only kind of Leader/Lancer dynamic. The Leader and Lancer are defined by having contrasting viewpoints, but this doesn’t always result in hostilities. In Codename: Kids Next Door, Numbuh 1 is an uptight perfectionist Leader with Numbuh 5 is his relaxed and smooth operating second-in-command Lancer. However, Nigel and Abigail never really clash. In the original Star Trek, Kirk and Spock are a Leader and Lancer who may disagree about the right course of action in a given situation, but Mr. Spock has the utmost respect for Captain Kirk, and Kirk knows that Mr. Spock is intelligent and logical enough that it’s often a good idea to listen to him and consider his advice. In reality, Spock clashes more with the Heart, Dr. McCoy, with Kirk as the mediator that breaks up their bickering. Because the Leader is usually supposed to be the most relatable and marketable member of the team, the Leader will tend towards being of average intelligence or stupid, as this is what most people are able to relate to. As such, it’s common for the Lancer to be his smarter, more tactical foil. While the Lancer usually isn’t as smart as the Smart Guy, they may have a Street Smarts vs Book Smarts foil with the Smart Guy. Depending on your Lancer’s ego, they have a high chance of trying to usurp the leader’s authority, or ditching the group to do things their way, only to realize their way was even worse, and settle back into the group as the grumpy lieutenant. Especially in anime, the Lancer will usually end up with a complex about always being second best to the hero, but this trend really doesn’t seem to translate to western media. A leader and lancer might be rivals, but the lancer developing an inferiority complex tends to only appear within Anime or anime-inspired western media. However, despite their differences, a good Leader and Lancer will be like an Opposites Attract ship, covering each other’s weaknesses, and making one stronger team when they are able to work together. They’re also most likely to be the closest duo in the team. Especially in Shonen anime where the girl’s only real role is to be a trophy that gets handed to the hero. Her lack of deep character bonds with the hero is what lures many readers to wander away from the boring hetero pairing that will happen and find more interest in the rich and complex dynamic between the male hero and his male lancer, leading to the popularity of so many gay ships. You can even test this. Look at shows where the Leader and Lancer are a popular ship, then ask who is the main female love interest and is her dynamic with the hero interesting? Or worse, is she even an interesting character? If the answer is no, congratulations, you just discovered why so many Shonen anime have huge gay ships. So, if you don’t want people to ship the Leader and Lancer, make the girl interesting, or accept that you purposefully made hero’s most compelling relationship with another boy. If you’re not going to prioritize the love interest, you can’t complain when your fans make it gay.

TEAM DYNAMICS

I don’t know why, but the only time when the Leader and Lancer are both girls is when it’s an all-girl team. It’s most likely a two-pronged issue. Networks don’t have faith in a show with a female lead attracting a male audience, and people have a hard time believing that a female leader should be in charge of her male teammates. It’s this whole weird assertion that if females outnumber the males in a cast, the show has to be meant for girls, which is why Nickelodeon didn’t put much faith into Legend of Korra being a female-led show for children of all genders. As such, the Five Man Band ends up with weird unspoken rules like the 3:2 gender ratio, and those two girls are almost always the Heart and either the Smart Guy or Big Guy. It’s also extremely unheard of to let a male Leader have a female Lancer or vice versa. Which is odd because if Leader/Lancer is a popular ship dynamic, why wouldn’t you want the hero’s most interesting and complex relationship to be with his female love interest? But it has been done. In Codename: Kids Next Door, male Leader Nigel has a female Lancer, Abigail. In Table Top games, it’s usually recommended to fulfill 5 roles: Warrior, Tank, Stealth, Mage, and Healer. Using the Teen Titans as an example, Robin is the Stealth, Beast Boy is the Warrior, Cyborg is the Tank, Raven is the Healer, and Starfire is the Mage.

SORDID SORTING

Some teams are rather hard to slot into just one easy configuration. Take the Teen Titans as an example. Sure, it works with Beast Boy as the Lancer and Cyborg as the Big Guy, but you could in theory make Beast Boy the Big Guy due to his big personality, while making Cyborg the Lancer due to his second-in-command position. The Gaang from Avatar isn’t a full Five Man Band until the final season, so in the earlier seasons, their roles are switched up. In season 1, Aang is the Leader with Sokka as the Big Guy and the Lancer, and Katara as the Smart Guy and the Heart. In season 2, Aang is still the Leader and Katara is still the Heart, but now Sokka is the Smart Guy, and Toph is the Big Guy with the role of Lancer sort of divided between Sokka and Toph. Once Shiro disappears from Voltron: Legendary Defender, half the paladins end up playing magical lion warship musical chairs, resulting in a messy tangle up of roles. Keith and Kuron both fulfil the role of Leader but in different ways. Keith is an aggressive pull-no-punches type of Leader, while Kuron issues demands with no room for negotiation. To both of them, Lance acts as the voice of reason. The key difference being that Keith listens to Lance, while Kuron doesn’t. Allura as team healer and being ruled by her emotions serves as the Heart, and Katie and Hunk retain their roles as Smart Guy and Big Guy respectively. Some change with every version of the team, such as the Power Rangers, where the only consistency is that Red is the Leader and Pink is the Heart, while Blue, Green, Black, and Yellow are more chaotic.

One thing I was quite surprised to realize is that especially in a lot of older versions of this trope, naming a Smart Guy was rather tricky. Mordred only qualifies as the Smart Guy of Arthur’s Knights because he was the one to discover Lancelot and Guinevere’s affair and his ability to scheme and plot against Arthur requires some intelligence, but aside from that, none of Arthur’s Knights are really known for being smart. Likewise with Robin Hood’s Marry Men, Little John is usually the voice of reason, while Maid Marian comes the closest to having much in the way of book smarts among the group. Journey to the West is pretty much the origins of this trope, yet the role of Smart Guy only defaults to the horse because it’s the only role left, and anyone who watches anime really shouldn’t be surprised by the role of smart guy being absent in the source material. But hopefully this was a helpful analysis of the trope and the ways it intersects with writing.

30 Days of Fanfic (Days 1-10)

I saw this and thought it could be fun but since I was already a few days behind and a little all over the place, I decided to do them in batches of 10 questions. So here are the first ten days!

Day 1 - How did you get into fanfic?

- How did you first get into writing fanfic, and what was the first fandom you wrote for? What do you think it was about that fandom that pulled you in?

I don’t really remember how I got into fic anymore. It was my best friend that dragged me into it and I just... started reading?

The first fandom I wrote for was PJO. I have always loved Greek mythology so I just decided to... go for it. I never finished that fic, though (probably for the best as the ideas were awesome but the execution - not so much)

Day 2 - What fandoms have you written in?

- Name the fandoms you’ve written in, how much you’ve written in those fandoms, and if you still write in them.

That one isn’t so hard as I haven’t written in a lot of fandoms. Here are the ones that I have written in (in order of joining):

Once Upon a Time - 41 fanfics (I do have one collection that I need to finish in this fandom and tons of ideas but while I haven’t officially left the fandom and abandoned the fics, I am not really active there anymore. Which is a damn shame considering how many things I had planned for it. I don’t really feel the inspiration currently, though, but I haven’t given up on it completely.)

Fairy Tail - 8 fanfics (I mostly join any of the annual weeks for different ships in this fandom. I do have some ideas but I haven’t found the motivation for them yet. Even if a few of them were really cool and I loved them a lot.)

Winx Club - 86 fanfics (This one is my most active fandom currently. I do still write in it and I hope that will hold true for the foreseeable future as well.)

Lucifer - 1 fanfic (that was more of an experiment and I don’t really plan on writing more there)

Day 3 - Favorite characters?

- For each of the fandoms you have written in, what were/are your favorite characters to write? Why were these characters your favorite? (Can be main, side, established, or original!)

Um, okay. Let’s see.

Once Upon a Time - Regina Mills was my favorite character to write because I was mostly interested in her and I could see a lot of similarities between us. I wanted to explore more of her and her relationships with the other characters.

Fairy Tail - I don’t think I really had a favorite character to write here. They were all sort of... hard to get? And I haven’t written nearly enough of anyone to be able to pick a favorite.

Winx Club - I want to say Griffin but I think I might love writing Valtor just a tad bit more. At least at the moment. Maybe it is that he is more emotional and impulsive and I can get behind that and know how to write it? I also related a lot with some things about him and other times it is simply fun to write him when he is being an asshole. But there’s also a lot of emotional stuff to explore there. I don’t really know. I just love writing him.

Lucifer - Uhh... I only really wrote two characters from there and from them Chloe Decker was certainly the one that was easier so I chose to write my only fic from her PoV. I love the characters on the show but I don’t think I get them enough to write them that well yet so I am not pushing to do it.

Day 4 - Muse/special character?

- Do you have a ‘muse’ character(s), that speaks to you more than others, or that tries to push their way in, even when the fic isn’t about them? Who are they, and why did that character(s) became your muse? Are they a canon character or an OC?

Did I mention Valtor? Man, talk about trying to write something that he doesn’t sneak in. The few fics that I was actually focusing on other characters didn’t suffer from this but a fic that has Griffin inevitably brings out the need to at least mention Valtor in it as well. I have had to actively restrain myself from bringing him in a couple of times when I really wanted to write about anything else other than their relationship. I guess that is my muse. XD Not one of them separately but the two of them together. I am having all the feelings about them. Let’s leave it off here because I will get too many feelings otherwise.

Day 5 - Envisioning characters?

- Do you have techniques you use to help you visualise a character, such as picrews, faceclaims, moodboards, or fanart? Have you commissioned or created art to go with your fics, or provided references (picrews, faceclaims etc) for readers or yourself?

I am the worst at envisioning characters. I think it might be because I am trying to get in the mindset of the character so if I am in their head, I can’t see their appearance. (Maybe I should try writing with a mirror nearby. XD) I do make aesthetics but their purpose isn’t that much to help me envision the characters. I mostly avoid the envisioning part by focusing on emotional things and if I absolutely have to write descriptions, I try to keep it minimalistic. I have done sort of a picrew thing for my original characters but not for any fandom I’m in. A friend of mine made an illustration for one of my fics but it was after I wrote it and she actually used what I had managed to envision already to paint the thing. Envisioning characters is not my strength and I don’t even know how I function as a writer despite that.

Day 6 - Gender Preference?

- When you write, do you have a gender preference for your protagonist and/or the rest of the cast? Is it the same or different from your own gender? Do you feel your own gender is well represented, and how do you go about accurately portraying genders different from your own?

I couldn’t care less for the protagonist’s gender. I write the story from the PoV that is best for it. I try to focus on the personality of the character rather than on any other characteristics.

Day 7 - Fic affecting your view of a character?

- Have you ever had a fic you’ve written change your opinion of a character? Or has a fic you’ve read changed your opinion on a character?

Probably only... every fic I’ve ever written? I mean, as you write, your vision on the characters develops and, essentially, changes. There have certainly been fics that have made me reflect more or in a different way on an aspect of a character and have led me to change my view of that character in a way. It is kind of the point of being in a fandom and reading other people’s fics, I’d say.

Day 8 - OCs

- Do you write OCs? And if so, what do you do to make certain they’re not Mary Sues, and if not, explain your thoughts on OCs.

I only write OCs when the story demands it as it demands positions that the existing characters can’t fill for whatever reason. Or when the person has existed in canon but was never introduced on screen (as in someone’s parents that we never saw). I am not a fan of OCs because I go to fanfiction for the characters I already know and love. If I wanted completely new characters that I am unfamiliar with, I would turn to original fiction. I was fascinated with the characters I saw on the screen/in the book and I want to know more about them and the relationships between them. I am not interested in what OCs can be made in that world.

Day 9 - Favorite pairings and your comfort zone

- What are your favorite pairings to write in your fandoms? Have you ever gone outside your comfort zone and written a pairing you liked, but found you couldn’t write, or a pairing you didn’t like, and found you could?

I’m just gonna talk about Winx Club because it is my only truly active fandom.

Griffin x Valtor is my OTP. I love them to death and have so many ideas about them.

Now as for pairing that I like but can’t write, I don’t think I have ever encountered such. In this fandom at least. (Maybe in Lucifer Deckerstar is a bit too hard to nail.)

Pairing that I don’t like but can (kinda) write must be Icy x Valtor which I did write on request and that particular concept was actually very fun to work with. I wouldn’t say it has “converted“ me or something, however.

Generally, I stick to what I like. I might try my hand at writing a pairing that I am curious about but I don’t like to waste my time on ships I don’t like.

Day 10 - Writer's block and procrastination

- Have you ever experienced writer's block or an impeded ability to write? How do you tackle a loss of motivation or executive function, and/or how does procrastination hinder (or help) you?

I don’t really think I’ve had writer’s block once I started writing consistently and not once every two months. I have had certain ideas that needed more time to get ready for being written but I never really stopped writing. I have had days when I was too mentally exhausted to write but the solution to that was to just step away for a while and let my brain rest. The problem wasn’t truly in the writing so with some time to recharge my batteries, I was back on track.

I mostly force myself through loss of motivation telling myself that I have too many awesome ideas that I will never be able to write if I don’t just get to it. And I always work on what I am feeling like tackling right now. Even if it isn’t necessarily what I would’ve wanted to work on.

Executive dysfunction can be a bitch. It is hard to get past it and I don’t think I really know how I do it.

Procrastination is probably the hill I will die on because I am too nervous to get to the next one. I don’t really have a tried-and-true solution for it as I am usually aware that I am procrastinating and yet, I can’t stop doing it and make myself be productive. Usually what gets me to drop it and start working is the itch to write and the feeling that I will literally explode if I don’t write. So I think it is that the desire to just write something whatever that may be defeats the fear that it will suck and I finally manage to get to it. I am just too excited about my projects sometimes. XD

Winx Enchantix Re-Design Part 1/2

I guess this is a good way to intruduce my own Winx AU. (Because everyone just has their own version of Winx.) It heavily features four Original Characters next to the shows cast whos entire presence re-writes the show because the show can’t work like it did before with four new characters.

I changed how to earn Enchantix because the “You have to save someone from your planet” is so weirdy specific.

So, how do you earn Enchantix?

In order the get Enchantix a fairy has to sacrifice a part of themselves (wings, their eyesight, their live ect.) for someone, anyone (pet, close friend, family member, someone you met ten minutes ago ect.) Another requierement is to have earned Charmix because of the immense magic pressure the first Enchantix Tranfsormation puts on a fairies body.

How the Flora, Stella and Musa earn theirs:

Flora: Drowns to save Miele.

Stella: Dies to save her father while Solaria is under attack.

Musa: Icy freezes her wings while she’s trying to protect Sitara (one of the Ocs who lost her powers at this point in the story) from being burned alive in Alfeas Library.

My two cents

on Fate: The Winxless Saga:

I only watched the first and last ep. in order to spend as little time as possible w. the show so this will probably be very nitpicky;

My blind ass could not keep Sky and Riven apart in darky lit scenes.

Why?? make Vanessa an abusive parent? Just so Bloom could lose control of her powers? (Yes, probably) The writers could’ve done anything else, like idk have Bloom go to a park and have a monster show up. She looses control of her powers and Stella shows up and helps her or smth. (No wait...that wouldn’t be mature enough.)

The opening scene of ep. 1 just screams “Aren’t we are MATURE and DARK show?”

The finale with Blooms Powers and all was pretty lame, she beats like 6 burned ones and there isn’t even an epic battle were the entire school participates.

How are the Winx friends? They don’t even seem to like each other.

Why make Stella such a bitch?

Is it me or is Aishas purpose just to explain stuff to Bloom? Esp. in the first episode.

Why does Bloom just tell Aisha her traumitizing experience with her powers? They barley knew each other at that time??

Why is Aisha villainized in the last episode? From the looks of it what the not-Winx were doing looked pretty dangerous. (Turns out it was dangerous.)

WHO thought the Sky and Stella stuff in ep.1 was a good idea?

That ending to Farago- I mean Dowling was just...the writers are trying really hard to seem mature and dark. And it’s not working.

WTF was that whole Sky’s (not) dead father plot?

Pet trouble

Roxy is left in charge with the fairy pets, what happens when a game of hide and seek, and other activity's are involved with the pets? { a spoiler from Season 5} a Roxy story

This is a fun and cute little story, that a I came up with a spoiler from season 5, and this Story Involves Roxy. I hope you enjoy this , as much as I love writing it. ^^

It was right after the Winx had to leave to save their lovers from the clutches of Diana a fairy of nature.

Bloom, Stella,Flora, Aisha,Tecna, and Musa had to leave to save Gardenia from the plants that Diana planted into the ground in order to earn her revenge for the humans that Destroys everything.

Roxy on the other hand wanted to come and help but , being the target that the Wizards of the black circle, The Winx found it safer for her to be in Gardenina helping with the Love and pet shop since they couldn't be there to take care of there fairy pets.

So Instead of going with the Winx, Roxy decided to stay behind and take care of all the Fairy pets , since she was the Fairy of animals.

"Roxy as you sure that you can handle these guys they can be quite of a handful." Bloom commented as she felt a little worried.

"Relax Bloom, you and the girls go save the other guys since you have Nabu with you, you guys should be alright, we will be alright here, I promise your pets are in good hands. Besides Artu is here with me as well, So ill be alright." Roxy spoke up as she hugged Kiko, Blooms pet rabbit.

"Alright thank you for doing this Roxy , I promise we will be back,"

"Winx Belevix.." Each fairy began to transform that was when each so chanted out another saying and held hands. "Winx Zoomix." And with that the gang was gone, leaving Roxy to take of the pet in the Love and pet shop.

Roxy is now alone with all the Fairy pets in the love and pet shop

"Now then ... hmm what should we do first. I know why do you guys tell me what you would like to do?" Roxy smiled as she lifted her hands

After that sprinkling a little bit of magic on each pet Roxy asked them to speak.

"What would you pets like too do?"

It was then so suddenly that a bunch of fairy pets began to burst into voice which caused Roxy to look around the room.

"Whoa . whoa, one at a time please.. I can't understand all of you at once."

The first one to step up from the crowd was Pepe Musas Fairy pet Bear

"I want too play some music. And have a fun time ." The bear giggled.

"Well I would like a good brushing, my fur is all fluffy." Ginger Stella's fairy pet Dog soon spoke up as she fluttered around Roxy's head.

"I'm hungry.. is there any more pet munches?" Milly Aishas fairy pet Rabbit spoke up as she tugged on Roxy's pants lightly.

"I'm sure there are some around the corner, Floras really good at keeping it all stocked." Roxy commented as she tried her best to hear each request.

"Hey can I have a carrot I'm hungry as well." Kiko Blooms pet bunny pipped up as he jumped up on the table to get her attention.

"I really want to nap but I can't find my bed." Belle Blooms fairy pet Sheep looked at Roxy feeling sleepy.

Chicko Tecna's fairy pet and Coco, Floras fairy pet started jumping up an down on the couch as they called out. "Lets play a game, Lets play a game"

“Oh my..this was going to be harder then she thought it would be, "Artu ..I could really use your help right now."

Artu Roxy's Pet dog looked up as he titled his to the side. "What can I do?"

"Umm help Belle find her bed?" That was the best thing Roxy could think of right now.

It was then the other pets of the shop began to ask for things in a monotone of words crowing around her head..

"That is Enough!" Roxy yelled out as she looked at all the pets that went silent.

"One thing at a time.. I will help all of you but I cant do it at the same time."

With a small deep breath, Roxy sat down on the couch for a moment, "Alright, Belle Artu is helping you find your bed.. and Ginger if you can get me a brush I will gladly brush your fur."

Who else was she missing, Oh right, "Before I start brushing .. Kiko ,Milly , I will get you something to eat.. and as well as Pepe I don't see any harm in playing some music, as long as it's not too loud you should be fine."

Roxy looked around, "Hmm as for Chiko and Coco, what kind of game would you like to play, perhaps the other pets will join as well."

Both the chick and the cat looked at each other and nodded their heads. "How about.. hide and seek."

Roxy didn't see any harm in it , it was just a game, so it wasn't that bad, besides what harm could the pets do by playing hide and seek, nothing could be harmful about a game like that .. right?"

Walking over to the clinic counter Roxy found a bowl and a bag of pet munches , it was then she poured the bag into the bowl and whistled for the pets, "Here is your food if you want it.." It was then a bunch of fairy pets came running toward the pet dish and began to feast on the pet munches.

Pepe placed on some music as he twirled around and around until he ended up dizzy, as well as Chiko and Coco were gathering up pet friends to play a game of hide and seek with them.

Last but not least, Artu came over with a bed in his mouth dropping it in front of Roxy's feet. "I found it."

Belle gleamed with happiness as she snuggled into her bed with a little sigh, Afterward though Ginger ended up coming over to Roxy with three types of Brushes. and sat on her lap.

"So far everyone's wish was being fulfilled , well at least for now." Lifting a brush off her lap, The animal fairy soon began to Brush Gingers fur , as the fairy animal wagged her tail.

This was easy the pets weren't that much trouble.. a little game of hide and seek, some music and a bowl of food, nothing could go wrong with those three things.. right?

Hi Nina! I've been wondering for a while, but you've mentioned a couple of times that there are upwards of 200 magical girl intellectual properties you've consumed and I was wondering what they were. I'm also quite curious as to what your to watch list has on it. If this is too much of a hassle, I completely understand. I THINK that’s everything I may be missing some.

I didn’t include if I read the manga AND saw the anime- like with Sailor Moon, Sugar Sugar Rune, etc. I also didn’t include any of the Precure movies because I don’t know I feel like that’s overkill??? I also started reading the Magical Girl Raising Project Light Novels so those would be shoved in there too I guess.

A lot of these series are missing from MyAnimeList list because I intend to re-watch them and it’s a good way to keep track of things I haven’t re-watched recently. (now if only I remembered to update what episodes of things I’m currently watching lmao)

Even with all of this there are still so many series I have to see!! I can’t wait *u*
