February done because I doubt I can finish the Hunger Games in two days but we'll see LOL.
Feb 2025 Books Read
TOTAL: 4
Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI, David Grann
NEVER expected a plot twist from a purely nonfiction historical novel but there were TWO. And both were supremely well shadowed but I was still gooped by what happened. This was a part of history I didn't know much about because like most bad things in U.S. history they never teach about it. David Grann's writing is supremely informative and entertaining, he takes great care sticking to the facts and any sort of dramatization was coming directly from how it was dramatized at the time (reporter comments, letters, etc.), and I think that's important when it comes to something as serious as the systematic murders of a group of people. And as BITTER as I am about the policy and people that allowed these murders to occur, I'm also incredibly warmed from seeing that- against all odds- there were people who wanted to do good in the face of such things.
There are good people everywhere and sometimes it only takes a handful to break through the rot.
Infinity Alchemist, Kacen Callender
There were a lot of things I liked about this book, and some things I didn't. Most of the things I didn't like had more to do with how it relates to current harmful doctrine as it exist in the real world. It's entirely different in a fantasy setting, and doesn't do the same harm when removed from reality. This being said, I enjoyed this book and am excited for the sequel! I'm character driven usually and I liked the characters. I was worried there would be an obnoxious love triangle (one of my least favourite tropes) but was surprised and delighted by how everything resolved.
Old Wounds, Logan-Ashley Kisner
The writing in this feels like it was MADE to become a screenplay. Not so much the actual writing but just like... idk dude, the way things were described and the way the action took place I could see the cinematic of it in my mind's eye. When I'm reading books I'm usually 'in the world' as an omnipresent observer, but with this one I was in a movie theater watching it on the screen. It's a strange feeling reading a book that FEELS like watching a movie but I really liked it! I do feel like a limited series or movie adaptation of this would fuck hard tho.
Let the Record Show: A Political History of ACT UP New York, 1987-1993, Sarah Schulman
An incredibly dense read that basically took me the month to get through. Dry at times, but incredibly insightful. I learned a lot about history; the shape really effective forms of activism takes; and how to handle working with a very diverse group of people with different ideologies, backgrounds, etc.. There were big portions of this book that triggered my thanatophobia, and I had to take a lot of breaks which is probably why it took me so long to get through, but I'm grateful I read it. I'm happy I was able to get through it, I think it's a really important read in general but ESSPECIALLY if you have any interest in engaging within activist spaces.
CURRENTLY READING:
The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins
BOOK CLUB BOOK:
Inkspell, Cornelia Funke
PAUSED:
Where the Dark Stands Still, A.B. Poranek

it bothers me that you often don't really hear about people having a "favorite album" the way they might have a favorite movie or favorite video game
#number one favourite album is The Near Future by I Fight Dragons#with Side Quest by the same band being a REALLY close second#honourable mentions include#The Horror and the Wild by the Amazing Devil#Meliora Prequelle and IMPERA all three are by Ghost#also Seven Inches of Satanic Panic but that's an EP so idk if you'd count it#Dance and Cry by Mother Mother#Love by White Ash#Hot Singles in Your Area by Scene Queen#I feel like I should include/mention Complex by Montaigne#and 8 способов как бросить дрочить by Poshlaya Molly but the is already pretty long#maybe Teatro d'ira: Vol. I by Måneskin cause it's all i listened to for like a year#oh and the entire In Sound Mind soundtrack which i think was done by the Living Tombstone???#fuck it this goes on main

Hey everyone, I know it's going to be a busy day for a lot of people, but Google enrolled everyone over 18 into their AI program automatically.
If you have a google account, first go to gemini.google.com/extensions and turn everything off.
Then you need to go to myactivity.google.com/product/gemini and turn off all Gemini activity tracking. You do have to do them in that order to make sure it works.
Honestly, I'm not sure how long this will last, but this should keep Gemini off your projects for a bit.
I saw this over on bluesky and figured it would be good to spread on here. It only takes a few minutes to do.

Look, it's our childrens!

Flat-color commission of the client's characters Maya and Jasper (fashionable, adorable, delightfully married and delighted to be married)! I loved their designs and fashion senses so much, and hence put my all into drawing the clothes and pose - I wanted the final drawing to look a little bit romance-novel-esque. Positively swoonworthy! 💕
