Hii! I was wondering if you could maybe explain the bus bros fallout or p2p gate or pretty much all of the McLaughlin-Newgarden lore to me since I'm only getting in to IndyCar now and I want to be caught up before the 500. I understand this is a big ask but I've seen that youve posted about it and I just NEED to know. Any links to other pieces of lore would also be much apreciated. Completely understand if you don't want to write anything though so thank you so much I advance!! <3

YES ABSOLUTELY I WILL EXPLAIN! this is my special interest dw i could write an 18 page essay about their lore.

SO basically scott came into indycar from supercars in 2020-2021 ish and him a josef started getting along like super well, which is honestly a bit odd bc josef is known to not really let people get so close to him, so scotty is a bit of an outlier in that respect.

eventually! they make bus bros!!! wooooo everyone loves it etc etc they have fun making it…. until they don’t! leading up to their breakup there were QUITE a few clues that they knew it was gonna end in flames like scott talked about it on off track (see audio excerpt below) and on hot seats with hinch if i remember correctly?

there’s also a fair share of articles that mention it. they basically knew it was inevitable but i don’t think anyone thought it was gonna happen so quickly??

so then the winter break leading into the 2024 szn happened! this is about when i started getting really into bus bros and was honestly pretty present for some of this shit (i was at the daytona 24 and st pete so i’ve got some first hand evidence but we will get to that later)… anyways so the rumors start going around that bus bros is over around?? st pete time i think??? a little bit earlier. which is odd given that they seemed okay with each other at the daytona 24, even though i thought it was strange that they weren’t both on tower motorsports anymore cause josef switched to penske porsche but GENERALLY it seemed okay (although based on this pic idk their relationship seems a little charged atp but it’s all speculation really)

then after the rumors come out i think it was jenna fryer’s article that did it in? (idk it has a paywall on it for me right now and i don’t care enough to find it here but there’s definitely excerpts floating around) now i do recommend to take anything jenna fryer says with a grain of salt bc she is essentially a gossip columnist for all intents and purposes. but the article basically said that josef and scotty were done and scott wouldn’t answer any questions about it and was only saying that they’re fine or to ask josef about it (tea from todays 100 days to indy episode actually…). they promptly took down the bus bros merch site and have been relatively quiet since then. at st pete they talked on the podium and didn’t seem too bad but i’ve seen other clips where they won’t even sit next to each other or speak to each other so take that as you will. podiums are pretty much just publicity, cameras everywhere, you’d probably want to seem at least cordial with your teammate.

so heres where most of the speculative stuff comes in. Josef dissolved his media company, unfollowed everyone, and cancelled bus bros leading into the 2024 season because he wanted to “get rid of distractions”, and really we could leave it at that, but i find it hard to believe that that’s the only thing that happened.

Josef is the dictionary definition of Penske Perfect, you won’t get any closer to it than him. he’s fucking OBSESSED with this idea of being perfect. perfect season, perfect body, perfect car, perfect team. obviously this isn’t feasible, but scotty seemed to have broken through that block in his little Penske Perfect brain and got him to LIGHTEN UP A BIT. and then the 2023 season happened. sure, josef won the indy 500 but it was one of his worst season finishes in a while and, to make matters worse, scott BEAT him. little scotty mac, supercars champion transplant from 2021 beat josef newgarden at his own fucking game after breaking down his walls and making him soft. i can see how that scared josef honestly. so he ended it. Scott doesn’t see things on a plane of winning/losing imo, everything is just experience for him. hell, he didn’t even know if he would end up in indycar and he sure as hell didn’t think he’d win races so soon AND beat his teammate. to josef, it’s JUST winning/losing. if he’s losing, he needs to be better. and he lost sight of that for the 2023 season. that’s why he had to come back and put an end to the shenanigans bc he knows scott makes him soft.

but that’s just my speculation!!!!! literally could just be nothing. maybe it is to josef, but i know for a FACT it isn’t to scott.

OH and with the p2pgate stuff! basically they had a component in their car that. was not supposed to be there! that prevented race control from turning off their push to pass like normal. (marshall pruitt has a rlly good article explaining it all here) and they were caught in long beach when race control forgot to turn on the push to pass during the sunday warm up and HMMMMM why do the penske cars still have it???? when has this happened before??? oh ok st pete! now they’re disqualified. josef used 9 seconds of p2p when it was not enabled and scotty only used 1.9 and will used none. so i’m led to believe that it was a josef-centered choice IF it was intentional to use the p2p when it was supposed to be inactive.

now josef really laid down the water works for that press conference at barber to the point that i was having a VERY hard time watching it. i felt bad for the guy. he seemed really fucking upset and i almost believe that it WASNT on purpose but. it’s just too good to be true right?

honestly i think this all could tie back to the downfall of bus bros in that scott maybe didn’t want to do the p2p thing but josef was willing to? and maybe that caused some sort of divide between them bc then again for josef it’s about Winning No Matter What, and yes scott wants to win but cheating isn’t the way for him. idk.

for more of their lore when they WERE friends, watch bus bros (duh), admit one, 100 days to indy, scott learns america: nashville, hot seats with hinch, and listen to scott’s episode on off track with hinch and rossi! also there are some very brief interactions between them on some older penske games videos before bus bros was even a thing but it’s not much. there are more but i can’t think of them rn…

i put this one because it reminds me a lot about the shed scene. "it was the best thing I've ever done" vs "I was enchanted to meet you"

it reminds me of them as a whole, especially the line "please don't be in love with someone else, please don't have somebody waiting on you" and "I've spent forever wondering if you knew" which both talk about their feelings for each other, and will wondering if mike knows how he feels. beautiful song 10/10

2. you belong with me

this one is self-explanatory but its probably the most byler song ever. everything is just so them. will comparing himself to el and feeling like a mistake, and being the one to truly understand mike and his interests. mike wants and needs a lot of things that el cant provide, but will can. "cant you see that I'm the one who understands you? been here all along so why cant you see?" "I'm the one who makes you laugh when you know you're bout to cry" and we've seen will hear up mike when he's sad countless times. 10000/10

3. deja vu

this one reminds me a lot of the byler and mileven parallels. will and mike used to be so close, but now he's spending all of his time with el. "she thinks its special, but its all reused" 9.5/10

this one is 10000% in wills pov. to me its about his love for mike. "I'm not gonna...fall in love" -will szn 3 and then season 4 will was just "think I'm in looooooooooooOOOOOOOOVE" (sry this song is just too good) 9.8/10

"i just want you to know who I am" will wanting to tell mike how he feels, and that he's gay. this song to me is about their longing for each other, and that they both have secrets they need to be open about. 9/10

this song is SO SO SO underrated likeee.... but this song is basically about miscommunication, which byler has when it comes to their arguments, and in the end they always sort it out. "my big mistake, was letting you leave when we weren't finished, talking it through" mike to will in s3 and will to mike in s4 9.9/10

"they say love is pain, well darling lets hurt tonight" painful because mileven is together, yes, but also because its going to be so hard for byler to be a couple in the 80s, and they may not be able to do all of the things they wish they could

ANOTHER UNDERRATED BANGER but to me this is about will not wanting to be replaced for left behind by mike, and coming to terms with his feelings. "please don't leave me here tonight, lonely on the dance floor. cause I've been waiting my whole life, for a moment like you" which could also be seen as the literal intimate moments between byler in s4, and will treasures those heart to hearts and is so glad to finally be close to mike again.

wiz extremely important question: what is girl!lando’s ab routine

omg such a good question thank you. girl!lando has always been on the leaner side but only recently: 1. she's gained knowledge of physical conditioning from her trainer jana, 2. was kind of indifferent about conditioning until the porpoising from the 2020 szn kinda f'cked her back. so now girlylando is very really careful about core strength, and in fact does pilates and core conditioning almost religiously. like she will kick your ass the pilates 100s, even though she is not happy about it and will 120% moan about it the entire time. also she can do a LOT of those standing with a heavy plate over your head and marching on the spot thingies.

girl!lando absolutely also does the hilton yoga promo vid. but instead of being oblivious, she actually maybe has to try really hard not to take over the entire workout routine. cus she has like, so much knowledge actually??? and when she cares about something she cares too much lol. this is not what you asked but it's canon 2 ME now.

(aside: oscar spends way too long staring at the workout video when it appears but we all know that. he tells himself he's watching it to "take notes" and "see if kim has been using the right kind of core exercises" for the competitive advantage of his own workout routine. but he just staring at the grains of sand on lando's knees. and then oscar is jealous of grains of sand, and he's got his face in his hands like how the hell did i end up here and then he has to take a cold shower.)

physically i love oscar's completely uncontrollable under-eye cheek blush, truly the ultimate Girlism that initially drew me to him when i didn't really care about any actual f1 drivers and was like right wot's all dis feeder series business then... though the bunny teeth are an easy second ☝️ physically incapable of Not adding them when i draw him :_)

personality-wise i just really enjoy his even-keeled temperament & objectivity, which i know i alr talk about a lot so apologies... but it's something i admire especially in athletes in tense adrenaline-heavy "solo" environments like motorsport, because being able to redirect external noise and remain true to your internal assessments is hard enough as a regular person with a regular job, never mind a professional athlete in the top tier of their respective sport!!! and i also think this quality very effectively supplements my fav racing trait of his, i.e. his ability to intuitively recognize his deficits and methodically manage his growth curve over a weekend... never acting needlessly frantic but with still enough controlled urgency to maximize his development in a way that is really impressive & i hope is only further strengthened this szn ;__;

Virgil didn't realise that throughout the entire day he wasn't helping Roman, unlike Patton who realised his mistake and fixed it.

Virgil noticed that the story he was telling wasn't helping, but didn't extend his thinking to the entirety of the day. He is still assuming that he did "everything right", even though he didn't focus on Roman, he focused on himself & what he enjoyed.

With all of this reveal about Matthew's fractured sternum and how he still played I've been wondering how Caroline would react to it. Would she let him play? Stand her ground and tell him not to? obvi its important to know that care is v much well aware matt is a grown man and can make his own decisions, but she is also not afraid to voice her opinions as well when it comes to suggesting what he should do about the injury bc yk obviously she knows there’s chances of injuries w hockey, so when he gets injured and has to get checked out, she’s not too worried, but the moment it was discovered just how serious his injury was ((bc HELLO a fractured sternum!!!!!)) she would immediately be on the side of caution and tell him maybe he should sit out.

like when they're back at home and the kids are all in bed and yk he played it cool w ethan and scarlett so it didn't worry them, but when it's just him and care, she's sitting there in bed watching him kind of slowly get into bed and she's all "okay, tell me what they really said" bc she knows obvi he played it safe for the kids.

and he tells her that yk "they said i probably fractured my sternum" and she's all "probably?" bc is sus of how he said it and she knows they took him to the hospital after they saw him after the game ((aka he told ethan he just had to yk do some press stuff so he wouldn't worry)) and yk he finished getting into bed and he's all "okay, so i fractured my sternum." and yk care's all just in shock and concerned obviously and he kinda cuts it off w a "they think it happened when i hit the ice after that hit from kolesar. but i'm fine, i promise–"

and ma'am is all like "fine?! matthew you're walking like you're 70 and in need of a double hip replacement," and she kind of motions at him all "you can barely breathe without looking like you're in pain."

"it's fine, care. they gave me some 800 ibuprofen for tonight, and i should be better in the morning."

OFC this is an answer that ms caroline tkachuk DOES NOT appreciate bc she follows up w a "its a broken bone, matthew. ibuprofen doesnt fix a broken bone. you can't play like this."

to which matt's obviously all up in arms bc "it's the stanley cup finals, care! it's at most three more games of my life. who knows when it'll happen again?"

"exactly, care! five seasons! it took me five seasons to get to another stanley cup!"

and yk they're not exactly fighting, but it's not calm either yk?? and care's not trying to parent him or keep him from his dream, but she also knows he's in full on hockey tough guy mode and will do anything without letting something stop him from reaching the stanley cup again yk???

so not wanting to fight anymore, she says "fine, we'll see how you feel in the morning," and they go to sleep.

so obvi it's next morning, matt gets up for morning skate when care's up w scar and he gets back by the time everyone is awake and yk he's still trying to play it cool but its considerably hard for him since he woke up more sore this morning. and when its time to wake him up from post game nap to eat yk, ethan asks if him and scar can go do it ((and since fam is in town, we'll keep it true and say brady was staying over and helped matt out of bed)) but care says "yk what, let's let beebee do it and you guys can help me set up dad's plate"

so brady goes up and care doesn't really hear a lot of movement upstairs, so she tells ethan to watch scarlett and she'll be right back– so she goes upstairs and actively sees brady trying to help matt stand up out of their bed and ma'am immediately is like "absolutely not, you're not playing tonight"

and matt's all "care, i was just laying down too long" ((while he's yk, still pushing through trying to breathe normally))

"that's bullshit and you know it matthew. look me in my face and tell me that brady didn't have to help you sit up in bed, that it doesn't hurt you to breathe or that you can stand yourself up right now. if you can do that and wholeheartedly believe it's the truth, then i'll drop it."

and yk mans already knows she's going to see through him, but he still tries to play it tough and yk kinda moves brady aside and prepares to push himself out of bed. he does it but obvi it's super shaky at first and brady and caroline are kinda standing closeby in case he falls and he stands himself up but is kinda out of breath and hurting when he's standing there and he's all "i'm telling them im playing tonight, care. i can't let this opportunity pass me up, who knows how many good years i have left." ((cue the male dramatics lmfao))

in true caroline fashion, ma'am is not thrilled and is all "i don't think you understand how serious this injury is matthew. you play tonight and take another bad hit or bad fall and you could further hurt yourself matthew and your career could be over. are you ready to even think about that possibility at 31???"

and ofc matthew's all "i'll be fine, care. i've been playing this game a long time, i can still play tough and be safe."

SO PULLING THE MOM CARD, CARE'S ALL "would you let ethan do it??"

"that's not fair."

"of course its fair. if ethan had the very same injury as you and you, as the adult knew the repercussions of what would happen if he played, would you let him play?"

POOR BRADY IS JUST STANDING THERE LIKE 👁👄👁 "maybe we should just let him go see the trainers–"

and care's all "shut it brady" and turns to matthew like "well, would you? would you let your son risk his life and career for three games?"

so they just kind of stand there staring at each other and matt's finally like "no," and before care can say anything he adds on a "but i'm not ethan."

to which care adds a "but you are to your mom and dad"

ANYWHO ITS LIKE ARUING W A BRICK WALL AND CARE KNOWS THAT ITS NOT GETTING ANYWHERE SO SHE JUST HUFFS AND IS ALL LIKE "fine, if you want to play tonight matthew, then do it."

and yk they go on w the day and matthew plays game four ((much to caroline's dismay)) and ofc she and the kids go to the game and yk care is v much not thrilled about him playing and everytime hes on the ice she's panicked and at the end of the night when they're home and getting ready for bed there might be a slight silence between them bc obvi she's pissed but yk they do the kids nighttime routine and then go to their room

but she helps him shower ((bc showering after the game was too painful)) and get ready for bed and she's helping him into bed and once he's comfy and she makes sure hes got everything he needs, she gets on her side and even her just getting into the bed kind of moves him and obvi that hurts and so she's just worried the whole time and when they're settling down into bed matt kind of moves his arm out to her so he can hold her hand and she does

and he's all "you were right, i shouldn't have played tonight. some of the guys had to help me get my gear on and i should've known that was a sign for me not to play...but care, it's–"

"i know...it's the stanley cup finals. and im sorry if it seemed like i was dismissing you, but matthew...this is a v scary and serious injury." and she kinda hears him yk trying not to breathe too hard or anything bc yk pain and she's like "hurt?"

"like hell," and she can see hes super emotional bc they both kind of know that that was most likely his last game of the season bc of how much pain hes in and so shes just being super comforting w him and soft night yk

Okay, so because I am a sucker for good soundtracks and the soundtrack from good omens season 1 was brilliant, what are some songs that you think might end up being soundtrack for szn 2? In my opinion, good old-fashioned lover boy is 100% happening especially considering the whole romantic outlook of the stuff we've seen so far (and ESPECIALLY considering the leak). HELLO tumblr user!!!! it is you!!! thank u it’s actually not day yet since the sun hasn’t risen but i’m going to my friends house later so it will be great. i’m so that ppl still enjoy write i make bc it’s been a long time! i actually really wanna try and submit a piece to this online writing magazine, but the theme is summer and all of my most recent poems (from literally like 2-5 months ago) are very cold (they were written in the winter and quite often reference the snow) so i need to write a new piece but UGH like i haven’t actually sat down and tried to write it so maybe i shud do that like rn. anyways even if it gets rejected i would receive criticism (which i need) and i’d probably post it here anyway bc im at my true cringe potential on tumblr. that wlso just reminded me of a poem request i have here i shud prob get on that its been like a month whoopsies!!!!!

You know...one of the people so highly impacted by flight 828 is Ben and Michaela’s mother who ended up passing away thinking they died in a strange plane accident before they returned years later. That’s so...DISTRESSING to think about. It was bad enough that Michaela feels guilty about their last interaction that, for her, had only been hours prior only to find out her mother is dead. But their mom lived several years thinking her babies died on that plane. :c :c :c my heart.

I think I remember why I stopped watching the 100 the first time. 

It gets annoying when everyone is all over the place. 

Clarke over here with Lexa doing who knows what.  Bellamy over there causing trouble.  Jasper et al needing rescue in Mt Weather. Adults doing something else somewhere.  Jaha doing... ???
