what i really like abt this design is the fact that it REALLY reflects that he's a band, kinda punk guy but he's the friendly goofy kind of punk... his piercings add more emphasis to it. i wasnt entirely the biggest fan of his pointed hair because it felt a little out of place and unnatural (anime-ish) compared to everyone else. hi okay continuation of my dadbastian spiel because i was rereading EW and needed to add thoughts.

originally i was working off sebastian's actions in later chapters to justify his discomposure during EW in a like "well shit hit the fan and now he's cranking up what i Believe to be dad vibes" way but i didn't have a lot of evidence from the arc itself to back up that specific correlation.

turns out i'm an idiot because look. come here. we get a couple of master-servant parallels to sebastian and ciel (angi/soma, claude/alois if you count the anime) but do you know. Do You Know what parallel we get in EW, the arc in which sebastian finally acknowledges the flaws in his current mode of manipulation?

oh yeah for sure. just a soldier, who was trained to be a ruthless killer and in no way expected to end up raising a child, coming to love that child so dearly he abandons his directive. the literal. father-daughter duo of the century.

look me in the eye. the chapter in which sieglinde forgives wolfram, aka the source of the latter panel's embrace, is literally. Titled. "That Butler, Listening Intently." go read the chapter for yourself and tell me exactly what the fuck sebastian was Listening Intently to if not the sickening display of parental adoration going down a few rooms over. learning from it so he might begin to adopt the persona for himself.

wait i'm not done. smack in the middle of the arc is a chapter 99.5, a mini story wherein sebastian tends to a recovering ciel in the aftermath of BOC. except! the soup he brings ciel is of the very same recipe once prepared by vincent for rachel, who had fallen ill, with the help of what we now know was r!ciel, inspiring o!ciel to VOLUNTARILY tell the story.

yana's deceptive framing makes this slightly hard to follow But, given the knowledge we have now, it's safe to say o!ciel was also sick in this memory. so. so tell me what the purpose of randomly throwing a blatant parallel between vincent, his FATHERRRR, and sebastian, wherein they both tended to his illness, both made him the same FUCKING meal, right into the beginning of EW's climax. interrupting the action to say "hey! remember that time sebastian accidentally cooked this kid the soup of fatherly love and fond memories? that was crazy. anyways"

i'm gonna be sick. also honorable mention for EW being one of the few arcs in which sebastian bathes ciel and endearingly pokes fun at his height. which could mean nothing.

Hello sorry I am being shy and anon but do you have any advice for someone who wants to get into Doctor Who again after briefly dabbling (and enjoying it very much) in like the early, early 2010s? I know this is mostly your art blog but you were the only person I could think of to ask you're like the Doctor Who authority of blogs I follow

Oh yeah of course! People can be really confusing about this so I'll try not to be.

So first, the majority of doctor who episodes are self contained stories that you could just watch and understand perfectly without any further context. even when there is some overarching context it's usually written in a way that's either pretty easy to glean and/or just doesn't impact your understanding of the story. 99% of the episodes don't even care if you know the premise and are just like "what if some people were on a spaceship and the devil was there? wouldn't that be fucked up or what??". Don't feel like you have to binge a 60 years long show to watch it. Some standalone episodes I think are fun if you (or anyone else) just want to check out one or two:

The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances (A supposed-to-be-dead boy in a gas mask haunts a young woman in world war 2)

Blink (A woman gets wrapped up in a mystery involving statues that make people disappear. This one is especially good if you flat out know nothing about the show. Has some really great time travel stuff.)

A Christmas Carol (A christmas carol pastiche (of course) where the doctor tries to rewrite the past of a cruel man who's going to let a lot of people die. very sad and sweet. I love the "wintery planet with sky fish" setting of this one)

Vincent and the Doctor (The famous Vincent Van Gogh Episode™)

The Rings of Akhatan (A pretty lowkey little adventure story about an alien festival. has supreme autumn vibes)

Flatline (A species from a 2 dimensional world tries to break into our 3 dimensional one. really fun special effects)

Midnight (A tour bus breaks down on a diamond planet where nothing can survive. Something knocks at the door.)

Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead (The Doctor and friend go to a library that covers an entire planet and finds that everyone has disappeared. Has a lot of really great, interesting concepts baked into it that I won't spoil)

It Takes You Away (A girl is left alone in a cabin in the woods when her dad disappears through the mirror. Has a famously goofy ending that I really love)

73 Yards (A character is steps on a fairy circle and is followed by an old woman who always stands exactly 73 yards away)

The Devil's Chord (This doesn't really have, you know, a plot, but it does have jinkx monsoon as an evil music god)

Boom (The doctor steps on a landmine on an alien planet and cannot move)

Wild Blue Yonder (A two hander where the Doctor and co are trapped on a dilapidated spaceship at the edge of the universe. really atmospheric with some fun/strange visuals.)

That being said, it does add a lot to watch it in order; there's a lot of plot twists, character dynamics, and general payoff you get if you marathon it. I would personally recommend starting with either the first episode of the 2005 show ("Rose") or the first episode of the 2010 season ("The Eleventh Hour") and just watching in order from there. I think you could also start with "The Snowmen", "The Pilot", or "The Woman Who Fell To Earth" if you wanted, but the first two (especially rose) are the better jumping on points.

some other little notes of advice I don't often see people mention:

it's stupid sometimes just roll with it

once in a while the show sort of "reboots" with different writers, actors, directors, and a new tone. it's much more like watching several small shows than one long show, so don't be too put off by the length!

IMPORTANT: pretty much all streaming services will separate holiday/anniversary specials from the show proper and you have to deliberately search them up on the same service to find them. It's really necessary to be aware of this because many of these specials are the first or last episodes for characters/whole eras of the show and are genuinely unskippable. I strongly recommend looking up a list of the episodes and checking it after finales just to make sure you don't skip anything on accident.

there's two spin offs (Torchwood, a more adult (read: gay sex) show about a mysterious agency that solves sci fi crimes, and the Sarah Jane Adventures, a pretty good monster of the week kids show) that ran concurrently with season 1-4. You don't have to watch them to understand anything happening in doctor who, but sometimes they cross over with the show in fun ways, Ex. the first season finale of Torchwood continues directly into season 3 of Doctor Who. My friend and I got a kick out of watching them at the same time so maybe you will too. (either way I recommend watching "Children of Earth", the torchwood miniseries, if you want to see a weird dark sci fi show about the government making contact with aliens. It's a bit like arrival (2016) if it was way nastier.)

When They're Sick

Ever since I did the post about Bo and Vincent with a sick S/O I've wanted to do how the characters act when sick so. Enjoy.

CW: Murder mention, drug mention, very brief sex mention

Luigi Largo

Doesn't get sick very often

The Luigi in my brain does not like germs

And was also a sickly ass child

So he's very careful about illness

Insists that when he IS sick, he's very manly about it

I do think he'd push through a headache or some small symptom (though several GENterns do not make it through, such is life)

But when he gets sick sick?

Oh BROTHER

Man baby alert clean up aisle GeneCo

Very grumpy and insisting this is the WORST ailment in the history of ailments

He has the common cold

Demands nursing but is a pain in the ass about it

No he doesn't need you to feed him soup but since you're already here...

I don't think he'd let many people see him like that tbh

Which mostly just means that as his partner you should be prepared to handle the brunt of it

Probably doesn't know she's sick tbh

She's lounging about high off her ass

Nothing is different from a normal day

Does need pampering but it's the normal amount

Tbh I think she's toughing it out better than Luigi

I don't think she's often sick either

If you ask she'll tell you she can't remember the last time she was sick

Could have the bubonic plague and be treating it like mere allergies

This one is short uhhhh Amber Sweet is more of a badass than she gets credit for pass it on

Sick the normal amount for a person

Very graceful about it

Like she feels like shit but she's not really mean

Does take a day or two to recuperate

Bring her soup but she's going to worry about you catching it

Not very chatty, because she doesn't want to risk her vocal chords

Might take some convincing but yes, she would like some cuddles

Reciprocates if/when you catch it

Or if you're sick at all

Remember when ppl really wanted tuberculosis bc they thought it was romantic? Mag embodies that

I'm not og anon but, imho when I started reading conclave fanfic I also sometimes felt like the Catholic yaoi is not Catholic enough, that being said if you go to the book Vincent literally says he isn't afraid of a schism. So I understand why people write him like that. it's a bit difficult to write the character differently. I don't quite agree with the notion that he wouldn't care about his vows or see them as irrelevant, because it's a whole thing in the book as well, but the whole confession stuff was actually so weird ajdjdn. I think book!Vincent is complicated in a way that perhaps has to do with the author not knowing how to make the theme land. And movie!Vincent is just this unknowable figure, really. Like "Vincent thinks it's ok so he ropes Lawrence in, who is so devout to him that he lets go" is not... A totally incorrect interpretation of the characters. It's AN interpretation, that yeah, protestants and atheists would be more partial to.

But there are different types of Catholics, and some are more progressive than others. And not everyone upholds his vows.

If we're talking about celibacy vows there are many justifications on how or why a priest would fuck. Youd have to guess the thought process of any given character except Lawmeli, and you can get creative with it. Someone like Tedesco might outright believe he's above it even if he's a traditionalist, something something cognitive dissonance.

The only place where I do care is extremely petty and has nothing to do with care for the scriptures and just on my understanding in how religion works as an atheist that grew up in a Catholic society, and it's when fanfics make Thomas and Vincent "marry" each other. Like my brain literally can't compute it and I just ignore it or outright skip it ajsjdjdj

I 100% understand this is poetic language (tho not always) and yet-

I'm always like... but they are Catholic priests... They're "married" to the Church... Even if they were a straight couple/the church was nice to gays it's just not possible... I have a friend and her parents are married evangelical pastors and the first six months of friendship I kept forgetting and remembering this fact and my brain said: ... That's not how religion works.....

But that's like, my gut feeling. Obviously religion works in many different ways. My friend has like legit religious trauma because her parents do not like that she's queer (she liked conclave btw sjdjdj).

This is a small cultural bias (I knew in other religions priests can marry but I constantly forgot) that is actually Huge in terms of how the characters relate to each other. They would never consider themselves husbands, as long as they're pope and cardinal... And this has to rattle their brains ajsjddj how do you, top dog of THE catholic church, rationalize your union to the eyes of god? Compartmentalize? Ignore it? Confess all the time? Change your whole POV? It's tricky! It's interesting! It's also mostly absent in some Conclave fanfic. It doesn't seem to be a question. It's ok if your answer is "oh but it's fine because we love each other c:", but it could be more of a challenge to get there. Also I don't buy the explanation that "well some Catholics allow priests to marry". Not these Catholics ajsjdnd

So if you're wondering: what does someone with a Catholic background might feel it's missing? Sometimes it's not even about anything scriptural and it's really just the vibes of forbidden love and guilt. Bartender, more guilt please!!! At least to me that was the feel. It's not called catholic guilt for nothing.

Eh, actually, it's not that it's not present, but it's usually not developed from Vincent's perspective, and that's the thing, I think.

If you rewrite Vincent to be sexually active prior to the conclave it all ties together more neatly, he can be the instigator to Lawmeli's desire and, I like it, but if he held onto his vows... Why? Why now and not before? Why Lawmeli? Is that why you are marrying them? You think he thinks in marriage is less sinful? Why? Oh, you say he doesn't care/believe in sin? Then why didn't he break his vows before then? Why were his vows important before but not now? Was breaking his vows a sin before but now that he's pope he can deem them not a sin now? Is his lust just that big? But then, doesn't he feel guilty about it? Because it kinda seems like he should feel conflicted about it, if he held to his vows all his life only to break them after becoming Pope.

You can take this in so many different directions but for that, it needs to be a conflict first. But if you're protestant, and you had a married priest growing up, maybe it just wouldn't occur to you. You "know" catholic priests don't marry or have sex, but you don't feel anything about it, so when you write conclave porn, they don't care about it. If Vincent is fine with being an intersex priest he would be fine with sex, right? But would he? And why?

Take this with a grain of salt given the atheism. Maybe an actual catholic can reply in earnest.

so, in the chapter where Freelancer introduced Vincent to Gavin, you mentioned that you see Gav’s whole story as a trans metaphor, I would love to hear more about that because I think that’s such a cool, and beautiful take and I would love to know more, be it why you came to see his story that way, or head canons, etc!

Okay SO!! I myself am a trans man and I have always found Gavin’s story, both in canon and in this AU to be a trans metaphor. I think it comes back to self invention and self actualization for me.

When he was Vindemeator, Gavin spent every moment of his life being told who he was and who he could be. He was an incubus, only an incubus, and that made very certain things about him inherently true. It meant that he could only be certain things, and when he attempted to define himself outside of those decided stereotypes, he was shunned and rejected by his community.

I think being trans has a certain shape shifting vibe to it too, changing the shape of yourself until you find the truth. That is very Gavin's vibe. I think it can also link back to his refusal to change his shape: Gavin as trans man finding his truth and refusing to compromise it for anyone, for any reason.

Gavin did what I and so many other people did: instead of staying in that narrow box, he pushed out of it. He decided "Oh, you have a preconceived notion of who I have to be? Fuck you. I'm not playing that game anymore." He chose a new name!! It's so trans. It's the most trans thing I've ever seen in non-textual trans media.

I couldn't imagine communicating his story accurately in a non-magical setting while depicting him as a cis man. It might not have been the original intention when his character was first written, but it strikes those chords so seamlessly that you could have fucking fooled me. Gavin as a trans metaphor is so important to me and I will continue to push my agenda.

I do not hate any of the characters that are normally hated, because I just don't care about them.

Kody? Whatever, he was a prop, barely a character.

Adam? Incel vibes, grosses me out.

Alexis? I wish she had more screen time and more development because there is so much potential. She clearly is more than just shitty bitchy vampire princess.

Cutie? To be completely honest, Geordi is kind of unnerving on his lack of action and communication, no wonder they felt like they had to read his mind (not an excuse, still awful behaviour, but fucking hell man)

Some Bo Sinclair hcs bcuz why not:

- massive fan of horror movies, particularly the really gory ones. Would absolutely love Saw.

- an alright cook, as mentioned in my Vincent post. Emphasis on alright. The stuff he makes isn’t as bland and depressing as Vincent’s, he uses more salt and spices than his brother, but it’s still not great. Still, someone has to stop Vincent from eating Kraft Mac n Cheese three meals a day seven days a week.

- this might sound weird but I feel like he used to have a habit of going around town counting all the wax sculptures before going to bed as a way of winding down. Then he started having nightmares about doing this and there being too few or too many sculptures and he had to stop.

- when there’s visitors around he keeps up the appearance of being a mechanic, but in his day to day life he mostly does repairs and maintenance around town. Sometimes he brings one of the victims’ cars to the garage and he messes around with it for fun (is it obvious I know fuck all about cars)

- feels pretty lonely, despite living with his twin and seeing him every day, and Lester dropping by pretty often.

- used to be interested in several different art mediums, but Trudy kinda killed all those interests. After her death he is slowly easing back into doing art for fun and not just to be good in his parents eyes.

- particularly likes photography and film. Has a genuinely good eye for that sort of thing.

- has filmed his day to day life in Ambrose. Someone get this man a YouTube channel

- has forbidden Lester’s roadkill food in the house (despite it being fresh and much tastier than his bland chicken and rice).

- has insomnia, and likes to pace around the house. If Vincent’s also up they just kinda pleasantly coexist, Vincent’s probably microwaving some leftovers at 3 am and Bo’s drinking orange juice. They don’t speak at all, just kinda vibe.

- has set up all the rigged stuff around town, the old lady and the lights and everything. He’s very good at stuff like that. He probably also fixed Vincent’s wax shower thingy.

- I like to think he genuinely worries for Vincent, who can get so absorbed in his art that he doesn’t eat or drink or sleep. He has on multiple occasions practically carried Vincent up the stairs to spend some time with the family and eat proper food.
