being a simple university student, you had simple pleasures - getting drunk on the weekend, binge watching tv shows, and a more strange one, online chess. you liked watching people play, you liked playing yourself, you loved the strategy aspect. on some websites you played on, there was the option of livestreaming your chess game - no faces or voices, but people could chat alongside you playing, and you enjoyed seeing input on your games.

one day you were playing a particularly tricky game, being forked from practically the get go, and being the victim of many pawn trades, you were definitely on a losing streak, even if you were just playing against a bot. it was being streamed, but there were only four people watching, not that embarrassing right? especially because it was hidden behind a chess username and no one knew who you were anyways, so it didn't really matter.

so when a comment came in,

ATV: i wouldn't have played rook to f4 there, leaves an opening for a three move check :)

your head tilted a little, turning back to the game and furrowing your eyebrows, trying to figure what they had meant - and they were right, the move was a little careless and it could lead to checkmate.

you nodded to yourself, trying to amend the damage by playing your bishop defensively, to which another comment came in.

ATV: sorry for backseat gaming here, but you could have check in two

you smiled a little more at the comment, placing one hand on your chin and the other on your mouse, following some moves for what must have been fourty-five seconds before you clicked, they were right again. you made the move, the bot making its response, defending also, before in a few short moves, the game was over, you had won by check.

more me verbally processing my feelings on this game and it's story that i sent in discord but i know reading these things can be helpful to others processing so im sharing them here <3

even though i think i personally am able to find coherent meaning in solas's ending, specifically the status of the veil, and i do think its good and i like it, i really have to work to do it. the way its written is kind of confusing because the message is like ok. let go of your regrets. but you also have to atone for your mistakes. but solas believes he is atoning by taking the veil back down and bringing immortality back and making sure more spirits are not turned into demons? but the story tells us that version of atonement is Wrong, but why is it wrong? because people will die? but people also die because of the veil? mages are mass incarcerated and lobotimized bc of the veil, elves have been enslaved for millenia, PEOPLE AGE AND DIE, BECAUSE OF THE VEIL? so he isnt supposed to atone for that mistake by fixing it he's just supposed to accept it and let go? so are we supposed to atone for our mistakes or not? what determines whether or not we need to atone? he has to atone for what he did to the titans but not what he did by accident to his own people i guess? and he is going to atone by maintaining the status quo that he created because people have gotten used to it?

i think the answer based on the regret prison scene with rook escaping with varric's help and that banger line of varric's is to take accountability and own up to your choices, they are yours and no one can take them from you. rook says something to one of the regret statues (for me it was harding) thats like "i made a choice and so did you and you knew the risks" or something so i think that is the key. solas cannot accept his choices and so he is desperate to undo them no matter what kind of harm it may do. he is trapped in regret and the past to the point that he cant accept them and move forward, and varric is the perfect contrast of this with how readily he accepts his death as a consequence of his love and hope for his friend. even mythal accepts her own choices when she tells solas that she turned him from his purpose. and she doesnt apologize or even express regret at all, partly because shes a crazy bitch (affectionate) but partly because i think her quiet, cold acceptance is part of the lesson solas needs to learn in that moment. solas is constantly saying, "im sorry, but", "ir abelas, vhenan, but i cannot". mythal just states her actions plainly; i forced you to take a body, i brought you into war, these burdens are ours to bear together, i release you. no apology, no rumination, she is at peace with her decision even though it is wrong. i think this works wonderfully on a personal individual level of personal regrets. it is a good lesson; regret does not serve any purpose other than to hurt you. it brings no one back, it helps nothing, it does not make the world a better place. solas has to let go of his regrets so that he can become the hero that varric sees deep down in him. it is an essential part of his personal journey as a character... but it gets stickier when we are talking about systemic change. obvi a lot of dragon age's modern, young audience is very much in favor of "tear it all down!!" and i am too but i think with solas they are trying to tell a very personal and individual story of a man and his regrets rather than make a social commentary on radical change, but they also dont make that clear enough, so the two get muddied together when it comes to the question of the veil in a way that feels like they are advocating for maintaining the status quo, which i dont think was their intention.

i think this is so muddied because inquisition very much makes clear commentary on systems and institutions with the chantry, the orlesian empire, ferelden monarchy, mages and templars, and the inquisition itself being all vulnerable to corruption, and solas has a lot to say about all of this and he is very much presented as being right (like when he tells you about the corruption in your own ranks in trespasser and how hes spying on you lol) and then veilguard does not do this AT ALL, all of the issues are very personal ones of people and their identity, people and their family, people and their regrets etc. so i think a lot of us are in this mindset from inquisition of like.... yeah disrupt the status quo install a puppetmaster elf to rule an imperialist empire, make leliana pope and radicalize the chantry even if its bloody, dissolve the inquisition, abolish the circles etc. etc. and the question of the veil is very much an extension of these philosophical questions about systems and organizations. and for those of us who leaned towards dissolution of all of those corrupt structures, dissolution of the veil is the logical conclusion to a story thats sending us that message. but then veilguard just. does not even engage with these topics at all. like its not even a question. it takes the question of the veil and translates it into a personal issue of solas's psyche (which is super interesting, just different) and connects it to his past actions, his relationship with mythal, and his perception of himself, rather than a macro-level question of what is best for the world when pursuing change, and the answer for solas on a personal level ends up being different from the answer that inquisition was asking us, but it feels disjointed as a result.

so the veil staying up was the right decision because it forced solas to let go of his regrets and the game is about him. so it was an exercise in his therapy session with his two ex-gfs and some annoying kid who wont leave him alone. but the problem is it doesn't answer or engage with the greater questions and themes about systemic change that the series has been building up to.

veilguard is interesting because it wants to be dragon age 2 so bad while simultaneously being terrified of dragon age 2. solas bringing down the veil would have been the answer to the question that anders blowing up the chantry asked, but veilguard decided to ask a completely different question instead. and i think it did a good job in that specific goal, but it doesnt satisfy 15 years of build up and instead just throws it out the window in favor of something else.

So Every secret boss so far has a habit of being a darkner based on discarded/Forgotten/Unwanted items… well. How many people in the states know this cartoon? Not very many,,, even though it’s great… so could Motu and Patlu be what the next secret boss is based off of? Let’s see gamers…

EVIDENCE ONE: BIG GUY SKINNY GUY

Comedy duos, you know them, you love them. Woody, Buzz. Mario, Luigi. Bob, Larry. But what does this have to do with Motu and Patlu… erm guys… notice anything about most of them?! The TRUE and NEO villain of Motu and Patlu, who’s the son of motu and patlu’s town. He’s always causing trouble with his lackeys around… could this mean that chapter 3’s main boss is based on the Villian of Motu and Patlu, while the secret boss is the good guys…?! No… no… erm… YES! It’s kind of OBVIOUS??

My theory is the main boss is gonna be Mike, now dubbed “The Don.” He must’ve not only backstabbed Soamton, but the chapter three secret boss… and Tenna will be… I dunno… probably his own character.

Anyways, Gaster. “Gaster? This crazy guy who does bad things?” You may be asking what GASTER has to do with this theory… heh… well, gaster in undertale was the Royal Scientist, right? Well… erm… somebody pull up Motu Patlu Wiki!

Ace and Epel are the quickest of the first years to get used to your voice cracks and bloody noses. To Epel you sound like his peepaw, but also not??? (the first time he heard you, he literally whipped his head back so fast it gave him a concussion) Epel honestly finds you super cool. Kinda envious at how strong you are despite your very raggard stature and looks. Def uses you as a distraction everytime Vil tries to get him to do his skin and hair routine. And Ace is a fuckin menance. Orginally grossed out, Ace comes around fast. Like Epel, he thinks your so cool and creepily hot. Like your tall and sorta buff, kinda gothy and kinda looks like a hobo, apparently Ace's type to a T. But back to the meance part, Ace does not stop making fun of your voice cracks (lovingly ofc) Be perpared, bc Ace is your permant echo.

Deuce and Jack remain severely concerned for your health. Like how could you loose so much blood in an hour and still act like nothing's wrong. Shouldn't you be dead???? Deuce constantly carrying tissues and towels to wipe the blood off your nose and lips. And oh boy does he blush like craze everytime you lean down for him to clean you up. Face as red as the blood on his tissue. Jack remains pretty neutral about his concerns, but always carries protein bars in his pocker or bag for you. Gets hella hyped when ever you agree to jog with him, even if your slow, Jack likes having you there because lowkey you kinda an inspiration to him??? He doesn't question it but neither do you.

Sebek will forever remain disgusted by you. And no the blush on his face isn't because you smiled at him with your creepy toothy smile. and it's most definitely not because you leaned against him and laughed softly into his ear! No, nope, no! (he's still grossed out, but he's also concerned. Sebek is a mess)

Cater, although concerned/weirded out, loves the idea of having a creepy bff. It'll look great on his account! Actually the first one to get used to you, surprisingly. Your cool, really really cool, in his eyes. A little dysfunctional and a little on the morbid side, but Cater finds himself vibing with your energy incredibly fast. Besides Cater, Lilia and Kalim quickly jumps on the 'MC is so cool and creepy and so very attractive' boat. Actually they're the co-vice captains and Cater is the main captain.

There's no way in hell, Lilia is creeped out by you! Lilia absolutely adores you! Constantly hovering over you with a silly little grin on his face. His mission is always to get you to laugh. Lilia literally swoons at the sound of your crackly laugh that fades into a giggle at the end. And your smile? Down right loves it!

Kalim has the same mission as Lilia! Constantly following behind you and giving you sweets/drinks that he knows you like, just to get to see you smile. Loves to hold your hand! And Kalim is down bad for your voice! Though he does often ask if your doing well, because you kinda look like you went through a garbage disposal.

I legit forgot about him, but Rook! Rook is down right amazed by you! You're just so new, so different, so creep! The vibe you give off is just so alluring that Rook can't help be memerized by you! You will get really creepy messages in your bag that complients and praises you like no other. Can I also just mention that you awaken something in Rook, something that you can or refuse to entertain. Imma just say it but Rook realizes that he wouldn't mind being hunted by you (does that turn him on? probably)

On the other side of the spectrum, Azul wants to find away to profit off of you. After he got over his fear (no one dares to bring it up besides the leech brothers), he's instantly asking you if you want some extra cash. He knows there a plenty of wealthy clients that would like to see you in different outfits. He also knows that there are plenty of people that are down right scared of you. Either way Azul will find a use out of you and no its not because this is the only way Azul could think of that gets your attention. (it is)

And have fun running away from the Leech brothers. One of them are always trailing after you. Both knows the terror of the deep blue, so you don't scare them. If anything you remind them of home. They both know that in the grand scheme of things they are much scarier and deadlier then you are. (i mean come one, you've helped plenty of people and they cause chaos)

Piggy back rides are Floyds favorite thing. Not many people are able to carry him (and those that are refuses to), but here you are! The perfect height with the perfect arms. Expect to be bombarded with squeezes and bites. Just a fyi, Floyd will lick any blood on you. He does not care for blood born pathogens, ig.

Jade, jade, jade. How to do I put this....he's fuckin enmoured by you. He's constantly observing you. Mismatch eyes trailing after you, trained you like a hawk. He wonders how much different is your antomny from his. Jade has pages full of questions and notes for and on you. He's simply waiting for his chance to corner you and take all your attention.

Riddle and Trey are on the same boat of 'please, just let us help you'. Trey kinda like your guadian angel, constantly making you food and helping you with chores. At first Trey does it, because he thought you were incredibly ill, but learns that is simply the way you're built. But he likes to help you, so he doesn't complain. Riddle also thought you were really sick, so he spent a lot of time in the library trying to find out how to help you. Like Trey he learns that simply how you are. Riddle, for a better lack of words, is completely in love with you. Sure, the blood that constantly coming out of you, is kinda gross. And he does worry if you're a chainsmoker, but there's something about your toothy smile, the way your sharp canines glint in the light, and your deep chuckles, that awakens something in Riddle he much rather keep hidden.

Leona could really care less about your appearance. At first, he thought you were going to fight him for leader or whatever, so he was on edge. That was until, you fell right in front of him because you were too busy following a butterfly. Let's just say, Leona realized he was moronsexual.

You're nice, a little dense, and intimidate everyone that does know you, so Ruggie takes full advantage of you. He's constantly trailing you, with all the intentions to get as much use out of you, but slowly begans to do the total opposite. Ruggie ends up giving you treats and cool things he's found just to see your smile. His tail wags everytime he sees you.

Despite Jamil's intial intentions to keep Kalim away from you (he thought you were a major threat, and honestly you couldn't blame him), he finds himself visting you at Ramshackle more often than not. Even through your appearance is less then conventional, Jamil finds he doesn't mind it. Again the bloods a little weird, but he doesn't mind clean you up. In fact, he kinda enjoys it. Oh! And the moment you bring him into a hug to thank him for everything he's done for you, he practically melts. You're so warm, arm's so conforting and great sevens, you're soft, kinda raspy, voice! Mans fighting his inner demons.

But you know who else fell for you the moment you whispered into their ear? Fucking Vil and Idia. For goodness sakes, Idia was as red as a tomato the first time he saw you. You looked like a big bad villian in his fantasy animes/games. The kinda a villain that took the internet by storm and caused a typhoon of fanart(some pg, some not). And for you to smile at him and whisper into his ear, while your sharp nails gently pulled back his hair and touched his cheek, Idia literally had to hold back his scream.

And Vil, fucking, Vil was totally disgusted by you at first. You looked ill, sounded ill and coughed out blood! Icky! Kept a ten meter distance from you at all times. It wasn't until he listened to Rook and Epel talk(basically gushed) about you was when he changed his perspectived. Vil studied you closer, and while yes, you did challenge his perception of beauty, Vil slowly bacame intrigued by you. You were creepy, a little freaky, but your smile was contagious, and great sevens, was your laugh always so attractive? Then there was your personality, it was the polar opposite of what your appearance suggested. And then ther was the crucial moment that engraved itself into Vil's heart, the moment you whispered into Vil's ear and told him you thought he was beautiful.

And Silver? Well, he never really cared for your appearance. He knew you had a good heart. His animal friends liked you well enough, and Lilia was always talking about you, so he had not reason not to like you. You were different, a breath of fresh air. Not to mention, he's woken up to you carrying him on your back or in your arms like a princess when ever he fell asleep. And to be greeted with your charming smile made Silver's day. His cheeks stayed a permanent rosy pink for the rest of the day.

I purposely left Malleus for last, because we all know his opinion on you. He's in love with you. There's not other way to put it. He finds himself opening up to you so quickly, because besides canon stuff, you understood what it's like to be lonely because of your appearance. You knew the fear that struck people's eyes when they saw you, you knew the whispers and threats all too well. And while those moments made you self conscious and filled with insecurities, you knew you were beautiful despite that. And Malleus was so awe-struck with your confidence. He was blown away by the way you treated everyone with kindness and shared your smile to anyone that would glance at you. Malleus thought you were down right stunning, and makes sure to tell you everyday. And of course, you being you, made sure to tell him that back. Mal is just so in love with you.

So basically a power couple.

Like, again, I'm not trying to harsh Solavellan vibes here! I like it under the circumstances I described, the idea of cracking an immortal's resolve is SO fun - one of my favourite manga was Immortal Rain (Meteor Methuselah)!

I just personally find what BioWare presented w/o any fanon involved to be a lot more enticing with Rook and Solas rather than with Lavellan and Solas. I am not going to proceed to say that Solavellan is somehow less valid as a result the way I've been seeing it happen with Solrook, lol

And YES, GOD. I'm sorry but the two of them each find their city far too important and would not leave it on behalf of the other. Just because they're both night owls with coffee addictions does not a solid relationship foundation make

Now all of the sudden Ace and Deuce where theater kids. And that didn’t end there. Now apparently many lovely boys and girls wish to play the part of the “Heroic love interest” to get a chance you kiss Y/n.

All of the people who wished for the role were ass.(Apparently to the judges.) Well except for 21 very unique students. Riddle, Trey, Cater, Deuce,Ace, Leona, Ruggie, Jack, Floyd, Jade, Azul, (YOU KNOW WHO ELSE IM NOT WRITING EVERYONE….), Kalim,Jamil, Vil, Epel, Rook, Idia, Malleus, Lilia, Sebek, and Silver.

All boys were perfect love interests for you, but the judges had thought of them as all equal acting skills. (realistically most would be butt cheeks but oh wells man) Some don’t even know how Idia got in here? But the judges had came up with the quickest solution ever. Through out the story the boys will switch out with each other. They would all wear the same outfits and all wear wigs. (Some would wear platform boots to match the height of the supposed character.[short asses😨] ) The play was about 3 hours and 50 minutes, so each boy would get ten minutes with you. And the kiss is around the 3 hours and 30 minutes mark. So now all the boys are slowly calculating who would kiss you,(some calculated slow than other but thats okay) and the boys came to a conclusion you would kiss AZUL! (THE CROWD GASPS 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Now there was only one problem…They all wanna kiss you on the little lips. So now each of them are scheming each others down falls. Isn’t that splendid!

And now finally comes the day of the play. Half of the students in the theater were there to see Y/n and the other half was to watch their personal ships of y/n x [character] sail. I mean we love a balanced fan base. Besides the point, backstage there stood all 21 boys glaring at each intensely, some just smiled and glared. But the boys focused their glares more on Azul. Azul just had a sly smirk while thinking how king triton had given him so much luck. Footsteps were able to be heard and the boys slowly turned their heads to the sound. Their stood you in all your beauty. You wore some medieval clothes that you preferred. Now this made the boys want to sabotage Azul even more, while Azul just wants to faint from your beauty.

Its a few minutes before the play starts, when suddenly a large bang of a door is heard. “WHAT THE HELL!?” Ace’s voiced could be heard in the front and now the guest were worried. In walked in the man himself…..

i liked the little cinematics... we fightin. also i ended up with lucanis and davrin as a team which is a nice echo of weisshaupt - they fought about it, both feeling guilty, both wanting second chances. we're here now.

U CAN SWITCH ARMOR BEFORE FIGHTING HIM AGAIN FLSGSLDHDLS ive been switching between 2 armors bc 1 is a good all rounder but another gives me v good protection against fire. so since elgarnan is clearly gonna be using fire now i went to see if i could switch to the fireproof one. and i can. amazing. also he was vulnerable to necrotic damage first and is vulnerable to ice now... i brought lucanis and neve... good pairing :>

anyway i am a little baffled by that one chest i found after being able to interact with the last merchant but otherwise act 3 was v well done i think. not rly much more to say, it satisfied me, i liked that i got to actually fight (verbally) with solas lol and i do think the "good" ending of convincing him to bind the veil to himself was actually rewarding for me as a player, even when i spent the game exasperated at him. good voice acting but also good body language there!!! which was a pleasant surprise since body animations are a little lacking imo for the rest of the game. bellara worked rly well for the role of the blighted companion so im glad i picked her! curious if neve has different dialogue, bc if not then bellara is def best. a little sad that hardings gone but also baffled at like. the wasted potential for a further storyline??? this isnt dao they knew to plan for a possible future game, but harding can be permanently dead, so...? altho. i guess we didnt actually get the body after. no body no death? dead but not entirely, part of the stone now? hmmmm

ill replay it for sure, the ending/act 3 actually sold me more on the game. i stilllll think as a dragon age continuation its... err. not what i wanted. not what id have liked. all the retcon and smoothing over of potential... meanness or people/faction being bad stings and spells a future direction im just not that interested in for the dragon age universe. but as a game? yeah i enjoyed it, i liked the gameplay, the npcs, found the romance a little lacking but rly liked the amount of inter companion interaction and reactivity, i thought all companion quests had a good emotional end, the game itself is very pretty, im annoyed at the sort of One General Personality With Small Variations that rook seems to have (mostly bc itll be hard to like... feel like playthroughs are very different/rooks are different ppl), but tbh im about as annoyed with it as i was with the inquisitor, just differently. think they should def have done smth different for the inquisitor in davg bc that showed theyd learned nothing of the reaction to hawke in dai, but i expected it lol. i liked the music eventually! the main theme even grew on me. i have more particular gripes with lore/character treatment but ill let that simmer for a bit. im gonna go to bed nowwww
