ā€œHavenā€™t You Noticed (Iā€™m a Star)ā€ from Steven Universe works so ridiculously well for Leo
#rottmnt#rise of the teenage mutant ninja turtles#rottmnt headcanons#rottmnt leo#rise leo#listen itā€™s morning now and I havenā€™t slept so bear with me for the sudden unwarranted lyric analysis haha#a lotttt of the lyrics work so well for him#not even just the overall theme the words just work great#first lyric is literally ā€˜I canā€™t help it if I make a sceneā€™ which is one to one with ā€˜Leoā€™s makin a sceneā€™ from the rottmnt opening like-#ā€˜Iā€™m turning heads and Iā€™m stopping trafficā€™ -> Leo has not made it a secret that he values his looks a LOT#-not just his looks but also his ability to get peopleā€™s attention#ā€˜when I pose they scream when I joke they laughā€™ -> I feel like this speaks for itself#-posing and joking for the crowd and himself#ā€˜Iā€™ve got them dazzled like a stage magicianā€™ -> works both with Leoā€™s canonical love of magicians and his aptitude with tricks in general#ā€˜well everybody needs a friend and Iā€™ve got you and you and youā€™ -> I just think itā€™d be cute to imagine his friends here just as his bros#ā€˜I got you and you and youā€™ = ā€˜my brainy guy my smashing guy and eats peanut butter with his fingers guyā€™#ā€˜havenā€™t you noticed that Iā€™m a star?ā€™ -> Leo loves attention and especially loves when his feats and efforts are acknowledged#+ he loves glam rock and sci-fi and being a champ and - listen he has a LOT of star symbolism with him#ā€˜havenā€™t you noticed I made it this farā€™ - Leo is well aware of how dangerous situations get and thinks himself only a part of a whole#-so hey itā€™s notable that heā€™s survived this long yeah?#ā€˜now everyone can see me burningā€™ -> self-sacrificing with his family bearing witness + all his star and flame symbolism in general#+ how attention naturally goes to him - including bad attention where his mistakes are highlighted and burn bright#also even the limo lyric-#obviously this boy has never and will never own a limo but one of his main secondary colors IS pink so even that#okay that one is just a joke but he would#(on that note though I think the other colors the boys gravitate to outside THEIR color are fun to notice)#I donā€™t actually know too much about Steven universe beyond the songs and some eps but I like the music#and this just came to my tired mind so here you go anyone whoā€™s interested#may draw something with these lyrics dunno yet#itā€™s a good song in any case even though itā€™s super short

Architects can change their form right? I mean their bodies are pretty much a few dozen organisms frankensteined together, so it wouldnā€™t be much of a stretch to imagine that even though it isnā€™t desirable to them they would be willing to get a new body that is based on only a quarter of said organisms, a form that isnā€™t akin to their usual bodies but more specific for certain planets / solar systems. I mean canonically we know that they can transfer to different bodies so it isnā€™t much of a stretch to imagine they do have different types of bodies for different planets and solar systems. So what would a humanoid body look like? Iā€™d imagine it wouldnā€™t look like an actual human does, perhaps a little uncanny (eyes too far apart, nose too far up, lower arms too long, you get it) or just full alien, maybe a mix of features too. Would they have hair or would it be considered inefficient? Would they be taller or shorter than the average human? Female or male presenting? Or androgynous perhaps?
TLDR: if architects would create a humanoid(ish) body would it have hair or not?

Origins is of course the DA game most closely in conversation with and playing around with Tolkien (right down to the walking talking poetree haha) -- and even more so than most works in the larger western fantasy tradition derived from Tolkien's work that DA:O also hails from and owes a lot of its Stuff to, what makes the game so great to me is that it's doing so very deliberately, and is subverting and deconstructing those tropes and entrenched ideas in some very interesting ways without at all denigrating what it's commenting on. (it doesn't have the almost disdainful undertones of the vein of fantasy that seeks to make the world more 'realistic' ala the more tedious reactions to G.R.R.Martin's work, for example, despite having the darker fantasy bent to it.) among other elements it adopts, what I find the most fascinating is the choice to use the same literary device/conceit Tolkien did in ostensibly only having in-universe biased sources and works to deliver the world through (which I feel is an underappreciated thing about his approach but is part of what makes his world so enduringly compelling and real-feeling -- the feeling of real scholarship devoted/applied to a made-up world. the grounding effect of a good diegetic footnote about source criticism, truly).
many things to be said there, and I'm glad each following game has taken on different perspectives and lenses and traditions to view the world of Thedas through because if you stick with that one too closely for too long I fear we could teeter precariously close to Pratchett's famous and bitingly accurate accusation of most modern fantasy of that era just being about rearranging the furniture in Tolkien's attic lol. and while you could accuse DA2 (my perfect wife who has never done anything wrong in her life to be clear) of many things, that's not one of them, they are pulling on some completely different strings for that one and both the game and DA overall is better for it, to my mind. as so many things in this series: worth staying with and exploring for an installment even if it might get stale if all of it was like this! people are understandably sad about the elements from previous games that they liked which were lost along the way, but that capacity for reinvention is to my mind a huge strength of dragon age as a whole.
(I think Veilguard is coming in as a close second in Tolkien conversation-ness if only in outlining/revealing the worldbuilding that indeed may have been planned since DA:O around the animosity that SHOULD by all rights exist between dwarves and elves in this universe (as per Tolkienesque tradition standards). but doesn't really because you see: politics and the many pitfalls of conservation of knowledge over the ages. our ancestral enmity got semi-intentionally lost between the floorboards of history and you know what. maybe for the best. the humans are already up to so much shit you gotta keep your eyes on them at all times you can't be brawling with each other in the deep roads while they're still around getting up to their nonsense or they'll just pile up even more of it)
#dragon age#dragon age origins#been thinking about the unreliable narration/in-universe texts only element being the thing da:o took from tolkien that's most defining#for a LONG time and I want to write something smart about it sometime but alas. this is what I've got right now haha#I think *some* da:o nostalgia is about that familiar safe childhood feeling of Fantasy World in a pattern that was so deeply entrenched#for many many MANY years. it's been in the groundwater of the genre for so long it's only fairly recently the patterns were broken#on like a mainstream sort of scale. I know I'm getting older b/c I keep going 'how do I explain to some of these people#that the world (both the real one the fictional one and the gaming one) was a very different place back in 2009' lol#and I agree there's something so tremendously comforting about it even with all the grimdark elements more in the martin vein#that's also in da:o. the same way you get satisfaction out of the structural familiarity of fairy tale logic but for a whole genre#da:o follows the Rules of a fantasy world in post-tolkien tradition -- even when it's subverting them it's doing so in reference#to a set of tropes and ideas both you and the game are deeply familiar and comfortable with#(da:o IS also just a really fucking good game I'm NOT saying people's love for it comes from being blinded by nostalgia haha#just an observation of a thing I've recognized in myself as well. there are elves there are dwarves there are talking trees and dragons#and basically orcs. all is as it should be and everything makes sense <- the part of me that grew up on lotr and derived works lol)#and while the other games also have all these elements they don't USE them in the same way and it doesn't feel the same. it's so interestin#dragon age: the veilguard#dragon age: the veilguard spoilers#dragon age spoilers#only in the vaguest way but still#you know what veilguard occasionally feels more like actually. sci-fi! and it's not an accusation or a bad thing for me I think it's great#da:i veers more to high fantasy and da2 feels weirdly low-fantasy -- it's a story where magic also happens to exist but I almost forget lol#it's a magical world and magic is integral to the plot but thematically it's so much about real-feeling political conflict#da:o is a Quest in da2 you're new in town (and it gets worse)

breaking my tumblr leave for exactly one extra post bc i couldnā€™t not post this but like. genuinely baffles me how people Still end up writing weird pro-slavery shit within their stories with a like ā€œwell the species wants to be enslaved!ā€ thing when like, science fiction fucking has existed for so long. like there has been media thatā€™s like ā€œitā€™s still fucked up to treat sentient and sapient people like tools even if they quote unquote want it bc if they do itā€™s bc they're essentially (and often literally) indoctrinated and programmed into it from birth and youā€™re taking advantage of that to abuse and exploit them without them being able to conceive of that fact and they will be fucking pissed when they find out and tbh we kinda deserve itā€ since before all of us were born like have some people not read a Single Story with a robot in it. ever. in their lives. itā€™s literally so easy to not sound like a fucking slavery advocate.

the thought of cracking the spine of a book makes kevin nauseous. he like opens it just enough to see the words and holds the book at such uncomfortable angles to readā€” anything to keep the book pristine and intact. he does not let people borrow his books because he is a control freak (as a term of endearment) and does not trust them to take care of them the way he does.
and andrew is the complete opposite, cracking the spine as soon as he opens it. he annotates in pen. he dog ears the pages because who the fuck has time to find a bookmark. he throws books out of anger. he throws them at aaron for fun. he lets them get smashed and torn in his bag. he always keeps them, he just prefers them to look like theyā€™ve been read.

people who don't normally read sci fi have such bad taste in sci fi šŸ˜
#which makes sense because they're there despite having no attraction to what makes sci fi sci fi#but it's funny because they're always so excited to give their recommendation#and it's always like. ready player one or bobiverse or the locked tomb or something else horrendously tacky#like it's either awful marvel style quipping or something painfully twee that thinks it's deeper than it is a la Becky Chambers#and you have to try to be nice while they rave about some of the worst writing a mainstream publisher has put out#that only counts as ā€œsci fiā€ bc it's in space or whatever#the other option is they like some military shit linked to a video game about how some genocide is necessary#don't get me wrong I read mostly bad sci fi and I'm aware good sci fi is rare#but it's like you had taco bell exactly once and someone's like 'any good Mexican restaurant recs in this town?'#and you just HAVE to respond with how good your dorito taco was and it's the best Mexican food#and in this scenario you don't even know enough to say ā€œhear me outā€ you don't know other restaurants even exist like it's never occurred#to you to look and after that one dorito Taco you never had any interest in having Mexican food ever again#and yet. if someone is talking about Mexican food you just have to bring up you ate a Dorito taco one time and everyone should have one#how it's the best Mexican food in the world#also tumblr stop saying books are good just cuz there are lgbt people in them challenge#one time i asked for ppls fav sci fi nobody's heard of and fully half the replies were Becky fucking Chambers btw

For anyone keeping track (no one), I have started watching the first Avengers film (MCU not the 60s TV show) but only while eating lunch so it's gonna take a while. So far Nick Fury has been assembling the Avengers (the film was initially released in the UK as Avengers Assemble - because of that 60s TV show - but it's not called that on D+ so I'm calling it what the Americans called it, just FYI) even though there's not yet anything for them to avenge as That Suit Guy (j/k I know his name too!!) isn't dead yet, and now they're on THE FUCKING VALIANT FROM DR WHO and I assume we're gonna continue assembling for a while as they're not all there yet.
MEANWHILE Loki (who is neither an alligator nor a woman in this???) is in a SECRET UNDERGROUND LAIR with a bunch of his stans who are... idk something technobabble that involves irridium and anti-protons. He is there looking for the tesseract on behalf of ???? who I know will be revealed 47 films from now as... no, wait, it wasn't, was it? That was just announced on a website or something? So it could be LITERALLY ANYONE. The Avengers (in-progress) also seem to be after that thing, but I have already forgotten why everyone is wanting it, assuming it was mentioned (it probably was).
Thor hasn't shown up yet, but Arrows Hawkeye is working as a Loki Stan and there's Steve Rogers and THE HULK and The Only Woman One, whose power is that she's a Cold War assassin (??) and I think this one is the film where she gets called a cunt (!) and honestly I am not sure which of the men she's getting officially shipped with, I think Arrows Hawkeye though? Fairly sure, as the alternative is that a man and a woman like each other as people but not in a lusty way, which would never happen obviously. (Hey I may ship mostly het* pairings but I don't always like it!)
Based on the Valiant (if u don't know who she is get da hell out of here!) I am guessing that the film ends with Loki dying in Thor's arms romantically but then I remembered that I know it can't because one of Loki got kidnapped from... either the end of this film or the start of the next one or POSSIBLY just from a later film's time-travel bit (???) but like... maybe they've edited this film secretly and I was right after all? But nobody else has watched it on Disney + recently so nobody knows yet? IT COULD HAPPEN.
Not sure what to make of this film so far, a lot's been going on yet also not much has been going on, and the one I like best so far (Suit Guy) is gonna die (NOT EVEN IN THOR'S ARMS ROMANTICALLY) and god Iron Man really hasn't aged well now that we have that one tech billionaire being a twat in public all the time to remind us what such people tend to be like. WHERE IS THOR????
*I say het but everyone in everything is bisexual, I know this because I thought of it and announced it on tumblr and will now say "I don't make the rules" to make it an objective FACT. I don't make the rules!!!
#the avengers (mcu edition not the 60s one)#(though if u close one eye and tilt ur head the black widow looks a wee bit like emma peel maybe?)#i like to think the lair of loki stans exists after this to post angrily on social media about how actually he did nothing wrong etc etc#let me know if loki's just working from a subway station that's still in use in this that'd be hilarious he'd be so annoyed by it all#torn on the tortured-by-thanos issue so far he does look messy but he might just have the flu and didn't want to back out#a lot of people are depending on him to jumpstart a movie superhero franchise he can't just take the day off can he#if loki took care of himself thor would be LITERALLY UNEMPLOYED how could he? how could YOU?#(the 'god of thunder' thing isn't a job he doesn't get paid for it so it's just a hobby)#(he doesn't even monetise that hobby! you think iron man would give you storms for free? EXACTLY. he'd have a patreon AT LEAST)#(ā€œif you enjoyed this torrential rain pls tip me on ko-fi which is not pronounced like you think it is because it's a really BAD punā€)#and whatever the fuck my loki character tag was#like i said i really do need to categorise my lokis more it's been bothering me for a while#reminder: i am here because they cast a woman in a previously-male role and SHE'S NOT EVEN IN THIS FILM. OR ANY OF THEM. D:#don't think the alligator's gonna turn up here either :( :( :(#otherwise it's just kind of fascinating what this film assumes i do and don't know about these characters#nick fury's a goth right?#mcu tag

Anyway I think the twist being the main character was what they despised all along fucks actually
#random thoughts#specifically in sci fi#what does 'robots don't deserve rights because they aren't human' become when you discover you yourself are a robot#not specifically this trope but i was thinking about the 'the little girl was a robot this whole time' twist in dbh and how it sucked#which is mainly because the whole relationship between the girl and her robot guardian was so heartfelt#was BECAUSE the girl was human and the robot was a robot#a child choosing her wires and bolts nanny over her flesh and blood dad because only one of them was family to her#also the twist tries to justify her dad's abuse of her like 'well obviously she's not REALLY his kid'#'you have to think about what he's going through' yeah shut up#also the twist doesn't really work when robots are already basically identical to humans#you could take any character in that game and go 'they were secretly a robot' and yeah sure ig#there's nothing DISPROVING it#now fallout 4. is also bad but let me think about the fallout 4 in my brain 4 a sec#i love the idea of a synth main character who doesn't know she's a synth#especially if she's bffs with valentine like. the contrast#between flesh and blood and nuts and bolts#also the idea of ss being nick's main advocate for his personhood BEFORE realizing she's also a synth#nick šŸ¤ nora: is this trauma mine or does it belong to me version 1.0#nora replaying that memory of when her husband got shot like 'was that when i was me or did that memory belong to the original nora'#'or was it even a memory at all??? was it planted by the institute???'#and like there is no way of confirming you're a synth except post mortem#so she just has to like connect all the dots herself with no actual physical confirmation of what she believes is true#the institute was destroyed. any paperwork documenting who she actually is is lost to time immemorial.#and shaun isn't above making synths of. i almost said dead people#god shaun is really dead isn't he. that little boy is a ghost.#anyway back to the original topic#best twist is when there's a visible distinction between humans and robots AND it's known in the narrative#that more sophisticated forms of bots are being tested but not yet produced on a global scale#also if the main character either lacks empathy for robots or whose relationship with a robot character isn't built on the idea of#'look at us transcending social norms by being a human and a robot and being friends'

Rebel Moon on Netflix is sooooooo soso bad guys šŸ˜‚ like at least thereā€™s space Charlie Hunnam with a Scottish accent and sometimes the main character has a flashback where she has a better haircut AND thereā€™s a sibling duo who have the best costumes in the movie but the story? The script? The movie structure? Cohesiveness? Absolutely terrible. And thereā€™s still 45 minutes left
#and itā€™s only part ONE#and itā€™s not interesting enough to compel me to watch a whole second movie of this#thereā€™s a billion things going on but none of it fits together and theyā€™re all just mostly disconnected events or ideas or just STUFF#and none of it is the basic things we need like. character connections and relationships.#itā€™s ALL flashbacks and EXPOSITION and world building#those things should be there when necessary. give us the minimum we need to know and move ON.#if thereā€™s so much backstory that needs expositioning you should have made that movie instead of it was relevant buildup to THIS story#worldbuilding should be there for flavor - boundaries - and establishing the rules for how the story happens within its structure#this universe just. doesnā€™t seem like there are any limits. so thereā€™s no tension or cohesive feeling to it. so I just end up not caring lo#at least Jupiter Ascending was CAMPY bad#Rebel Moon is just BEGGING for you to take it seriously and BEGGING for you to make it the next big sci-fi cornerstone in culture#but I swear it is just. so bad.#I donā€™t even know where to start with it šŸ˜‚#thereā€™s also like. some things they donā€™t warn for that they defo should have included in the rest? idk maybe thatā€™s just me but#if you warn about attempted assault against a woman you should also do it for one of the men later#also I said ā€˜main characterā€™ in the post but it really seems like theyā€™re trying to make EVERY character the main character.#theyā€™re too individual to come together. itā€™s just random ingredients not one dish.#itā€™s not structured the way an ensemble movie is supposed to be so it just doesnā€™t work šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø
