Six Sentence Sunday! The sequel!

So... Yes. I am still working on this little (I hope it's little) "What if Baz succeeded in stealing Simon's voice in 5th year?" fanfic of mine. Because. Um. I like the potential for angst? So much angst. Also other feelings. But for the purposes of today's little snippet: ANGST.

Since I missed last week (and might miss next week if I can't manage to write something new between now and then), you get 12 lines instead of 6! Also because the snippet wouldn't have worked so well cut in half.

You already know the premise of my fic, so this shouldn't come as too much of a shock: Baz did a bad thing, and he remembers it too well.

He didn’t start our would-be confrontation with any of his usual questions or accusations. He started with my name. "Baz—" That single utterance morphed into the most terrible sound I’d ever heard. Would ever hear. Snow choked on it, because it wouldn’t stop. It twisted and writhed in the air after clawing its way out of him. It became an unrecognizable, fading wail. Only I knew. I never stopped hearing my name. My name on Snow’s lips took forever to die. And as awful as that slow death had been, the silence that followed was a thousand times worse.

(Yeah. Canon divergence begins here. I did say I'm here for maximum angst XD)

Side note: Looking for brainstorming/writing buddies so I don't overwhelm the ones I already have. Ahem. If this story idea intrigues you and you'd like to let me babble at you a lot (I am happy to accept return babble if you also have a WIP), let me know. It's the only way I get anything done, apparently.

This is one of my all time favorite fics and I’d been dying to make some art inspired by it. I thought for a little bit that I might try to make the sculpture from the final chapter, but in the end I don’t think that would have screamed me, y’know? So I made this linocut, and to give it a flair of Simon’s artistry, I repurposed some aluminum from my recycling as an inlay

WIP WEDNESDAY

How is it Wednesday again already? Thanks for all of the tags last week @wellbelesbian @artsyunderstudy @rimeswithpurple @hushed-chorus and @aristocratic-otter. I can't seem to post for more than one WIPsDay a week at the moment, I'm hoping to increase that back up to two again, but the brain weasels are still nibbling away a little at the moment.

Still, we move. I have been writing recently, but not as much as I would've liked for the later chapters of TTWB, but there is writing happening. Just want to say a massive thank you to @nausikaaa for helping brainstorm some greekified names for these later chapters!

As for where we're currently up to in Trails, chapter 6 went live last night (only just making my self imposed Tuesday deadline!) and you can check it out here if you haven't read it yet. Be warned, we're heading back into hurt/comfort hours with this one.

And can we just take a moment to appreciate the stellar art Ashton is creating for this fic. No spoilers for this week's piece, but just know I was happy squealing when I opened the DM!

Anyway! Snippet time! I've stuck it under the cut because this post is getting way too long already. This is something from next week's chapter, so it's not been edited yet and could change. Baz POV

And there hasn’t been a day when I haven’t relived that moment over and over on a loop. Some nights fantasy mixed with memory, and my imagination drew forward some truly debauched continuations of that moment. Me pushing through the opioid haze, crushing our mouths together and pulling his body over mine, pressing our hips together. So many nights over the last month have ended in my stuffing my fist into my mouth as I pulled myself off.  Thankfully all of those occasions were in the front room of Fiona’s flat on the chaise. After a couple of days I refused to sleep any longer in her bed, but my movement was restricted to toilet trips only. The majority of the day was spent reading, sleeping, vermin watching (Fiona’s building has a serious rodent problem), my leg propped up on a mountain of pillows. Still, my lonely wanking sessions were a new low. And now that I’m back home, with Snow sleeping no more than a couple of feet from me, I’m not sure how I’m going to cope. As if he’s heard my descent into love induced madness I hear our door open and Snow’s shuffling footsteps as he comes in. “Hi,” he says, more breath than vocalisation. I swear he’s out to make my life more difficult than it needs to be.

When Simon replays the night in his head—as he has done until the memory feels brittle around the edges—he always begins with the dip of the mattress, the slip of sheets against his pajamas (Baz’s pajamas), and the weight of blankets briefly lifted as Baz slid in beside him. Rolled to face him. Simon did what he had only recently come to learn he could do best with Baz (besides fight); he leaned in. Baz shut his eyes. They kissed.

It's the tender smut and feelings smut that got me. I've actually had a post in my drafts for the past uhhhh 13 months (apparently) about smut yada yada so maybe I should write that huh.

Stitches and Sentences

Happy Sunday all! I am off to my private school's open house today to sing the praises of our freshman English program so prospective parents will continue to pay my salary. Given the early hour, here is an early post.

I made lots of progress on my army of Baz bodies this week, but I can't preview most of what I am doing because several of the dolls are inspired by currently unpublished chapters of ongoing fics or in-progress art.

I can share Bubble Baz, inspired by my own fic. Annie beat me to creating a version of Baz in his hoodie (I love him!). Below is my version of Bubble Baz, cozy and in the felt! More pics here.

Although at this point I have made 28 dolls (and counting), I've kept very few them---just Shep and Penny (pictured above). A significant part of the joy of doll-making for me is gifting them to fandom friends. With that said, I didn't realize what a cool feeling it is to see your character embodied and be able to keep him! I love Bubble Bazzy so much already. He slept on my pillow last night.

In fic land, I struggled to find a snip of The Boy Next Door that I could post this week that wouldn't contain major spoilers given how Chapter 6 ended. I think I managed it by redacting some of the text. Simon POV below the cut.

SIMON Baz: [redacted] I re-read Baz’s text several times. Words always go a bit fuzzy for me, but this is unprecedented. After all, it’s not like letters generally rearrange themselves into blatant contradictions just for a lark. My head is swimming with questions. I ring Baz immediately.  “What the fuck, Baz? Is this a joke?” I demand.

As predicted, this is a day late, but I was off having a lovely cottage on the lake weekend with my friends followed by a Hobo Johnson concert. We're just going to pretend this is on time.

As promised, today is the final outfit reveal for my Simon-inspired Ren Faire wings!

I didn't get to make any of my other adjustments (like stronger magnets), but I did discover that the magnets are adjustable, meaning I can loosen or tighten the screws they're on to make the wings sit a little higher/lower and ensure the wings aren't tilted. I made them as tight as possible (so they sat as high as possible) and tbh I had no issues with them?? Was this the fix I needed all along?

When we arrived at the fairgrounds, I put the wings on, and as I tightened the straps the rivet popped off the left strap. I thought "Did I just do all this work to break them at the last minute and not be able to wear them?" Yet I was oddly calm, resigned to my fate. I asked Kat to see if she could jerry-rig it just in case. She slipped the disconnected top strap through the adjuster-thingy and... it worked??? We are unsure why this was so successful, but I had NO problems with it all day.

I got lots of comments, complements, and a few picture/video demonstration requests, validating my own belief that the wings are cool as shit. The LARPers were especially impressed. And becuase the fair was expanded this year, including more open space and less crowded walkways, I was even able to walk around with them open for a bit! And I didn't knock anything over inside the booths, either!

I also got my first trinkets from trinket-traders because they liked my wings!

I did not come prepared with my own trinkets as I have never been cool before, so I'm workshopping some ideas for next year, including: polished rocks (dragon horde shinies), painted bottle caps (perhaps with a dragony logo on each one?), sea glass (does require effort of going out and finding the sea glass...), scales (not sure what they'd be made of, though. 3D printed and painted? acrylic? gotta be a simpler solution...). Suggestions welcome.

Bonus: As we watached the joust, I of course started to build a Snowbaz Ren Faire AU based around the semi-scripted joust performances we have each year. I doubt I'll ever write it, but it's fun to think about!

I would like to thank Kat for being my Ladie's Maid every year and helping me get into my corset and, now, wings. Also for driving. Summary:

When Baz gets to school a month late for eighth year, Simon knows there's something going on. Logically, that means keeping an eye on him, and a little bit of stalking is in order, too. One day, he follows Baz into the woods, and everything goes wrong—Simon goes off and gets himself tangled in a time loop. Now, Simon must try again and again to free himself from the loop before he's out of time. All he needs to do is keep Baz alive through the day. It should be easy, right? (It's not like he cares anyway.)

So excited to share my second CORB piece! Infinite thank yous to Ashton for being an amazing artist, beta and friend! (Also my angst-enabler haha). I'm still in awe of this piece, and so happy I got to write something to go along with it.
