[047] Applied my version of Doom's partial invisibility fuzz effect and an accidental offshoot I created in the process, heehee :-)
#047#xisuma#xisumavoid#daily xisuma#hermitcraft#flashing#pretty sure...better safe than sorry#hey I have so many words about this actually!!!#if you wanna learn what the doom fuzz effect is/how it works I recommend decino's video on partial invisibility. somewhere past the halfway#mark he explains it!#it's basically like...for each pixel you either take the pixel on top of it darken it and use it; or you take the pixel below darken it and#use it. and the way you determine whether you do top or bottom is through a list of “top bottom bottom top bottom” that never changes and#you cycle through. so it's a sort of repeating pattern that you make look random by starting at different places in the list#second gif is created when you apply the effect over an image that has already had the effect applied to it. I coded it on accident and#scared myself HAHAHA#really neat though! first time I actually did image processing because I am a little silly but it went quite well once I figured out#how the frick bufferedimages work#I wanna make this work for non pixel art now mmm. will have to do some un-doomy modifications for that unfortunately. oh well? mmm.#already it's not perfectly in the spirit of doom because I math.random() my problems away when choosing the fuzz table start index for each#new image. if I cared enough I'd carry over the index that I ended on but alas. I do NOT care that much! (shockingly)#all it really changes is that every time you generate the fuzz it's different versus in doom spirit it would always be the same

saw a post questioning shipping Senua and Thórgestr and started to reblog it with a tag novel-- felt weird about doing that since this is lengthy and potentially derailing, so making my own post instead. Spitballing under the cut:
First off, any time someone is like, "the real reason people ship this is because they find the dude attractive," this is SO funny to me as someone who doesn't find men attractive IRL and has fiercely loved Senua since I played the first game, like-- actually I find the dynamic between those two characters to be compelling and interesting precisely because of all the baggage between them re: their backgrounds, the rough (put mildly!) beginning of their relationship, all the things they don't talk about, and them finding a common enemy/common ground to work with. The explicit parallels between them stated in-game scratched an itch in my brain. The minute they pointed out the dark rot on his arm, it was like, "oh! hello there! NOW I'm interested in whatever your whole deal is" for me. Also, idk man, I too would follow Senua around after she knocked me into the dirt and then showed me a way to fight the giants that I very much wanted to fight instead of appease.
The idea that Thórgestr was part of the Orkney Raid that killed and mutilated Dillion is VERY interesting food for thought, even if I don't personally have that headcanon (surely there are more viking raiding groups than just the Bjorg). I think the Furies or the Shadow said something similar about Fargrimr (his kin murdered yours, you shouldn't save him, etc.) so I completely get that line of thought, but I think the game left it ambiguous enough that it's up for interpretation. Would I read fic with that premise? Yeah, I'd check that out. Could Senua forgive Thorgestr if his people were involved? Sounds fun to explore.
If (ha, when?) I write fic, I'd have to think more about it especially wrt timelines, like when did the Bjorg start specifically raiding for slaves for giant food sacrifices vs. killing people for resources and wealth? How far off are we from the old gods "dying" and the volcano erupting? Was it indeed a different group of raiders who made a deal with Zynbel, attacked Senua's home, and made the sacrifice at that time to Hela?
At the very least, I think there's a time jump between the end of Hellblade I and the beginning of Hellblade II since Senua wasn't alone on that slave ship and at least one of the (brief) survivors knew her by name. I wouldn't mind exploring that gap of time, too.
In any case I do agree that it would take a VERY long time for Senua to consciously catch feelings for anyone let alone Thorgestr with all their collective baggage. The idea of them having a relationship beyond friendship in the far off future of an AU where he survives is the only one that can make sense in my brain, personally. It would take time! Time they didn't get in the game! But I think there are a lot of different roads that could take, and some of them might be healthier than others. Shipping them certainly isn't forgetting or excusing what happened to Dillion-- or even mutually exclusive from still shipping Senua and Dillion. Or, frankly, also shipping Senua and Astridr, because I can see that ship too.
One of the nice things about all the details Ninja Theory didn't expand upon and that they left that ending so open is that the sky's the limit. I'm VERY interested in seeing fandom tackle this game as we get farther from the initial release.
#kate plays hellblade#senua x thorgestr#a friend did laugh at me recently and say there's always a weird guy i latch onto and i laughed back and said i'm a boy in my brain#i think i've felt that way forever and it's still true. i DO gravitate toward male characters#especially ones who are a bit starry-eyed over their female counterparts#anyway that's not what this post is about#it's more of me throwing thoughts out into the ether because i don't have the energy or time to write fic yet#but i am Thinking About It#what happens after the story left off? what if we changed ONE THING and gave them more time#i stopped using accent marks midway through this sorry i'm typing on a computer. my phone would catch them but alas.#i can't remember my video games tag#senua#thorgestr#hellblade#senua's saga#i'm really just excited to talk fannish things about this one#the first game was so neat and tied up that i felt no fannish inclinations beyond loving the game#but there's SO MUCH ROOM HERE with this second one#delightful#i'll read all the AUs even the sad ones#when it comes to thorgestr and senua i think thorgestr fell first and pretty hard but he doesn't talk about it until senua starts opening u#i really think those two are made for a glacially slow burn#maybe not if she becomes the tyrant seer. loved and feared.#could be quick and very unhealthy. ALSO compelling to me!#senua's saga spoilers#to be safe#these tags are about as long as the post. i'd better quit while i'm ahead.#hertan writing tag

just my type [ch. 1]
a landoscar vampire au
Oscar leans in to read the label on the bloodpack. “Anyways, that one’s rabbit,” he says, matter-of-factly, before standing up from the couch and stretching. “How the fuck did you-” “Oryctolagus. European rabbit genus.” Nerd, Lando thinks. “Nerd,” Lando says, and he stands up too, binning the Monster can as Oscar returns the bloodpack to the fridge. In which Oscar is a vampire, is crushing on his teammate, and is attempting at all costs to avoid Carlos Sainz. In which Lando is aware of none of these things.
aka i'm back to longform writing (...and RPF writing...) for the first time in 2-3 years! this is what i did last week instead of my psychology homework. that probably say something about me. enjoy!!

Out of all of the mimes (in host and out), which do you think would be the best at singing?
Holly would be the best of the best, in and out of host. He's an extremely theatrical mime and hits the highs and lows like it's second nature. Her host is also a famous singer/actor.
As for runner ups...................
I think Foxglove's singing voice would be hauntingly enchanting true-form... but she's not really the singing type. At least, not in front of other people.
Jarna, if you're into heavy metal & screamo, can & will blow your socks off. In and out, but moreso true-form.
Atrox's singing voice is light and airy but filled with a lot of emotion, and I'd definitely rank him up with the best on this list too.
(Also I think Funfettilla's singing voice would have a wacky, lovable charm to it.)

Monty hadn't exactly settled into the Tower. He was back in a new role, with new responsibilities, and - honestly - a new outlook on the Games. They were back. Despite everything he had been through, the capture, the imprisonment, the suffering... it was always going to lead back to this. This Tower, these Games, this meaning.
Monty had been vindicated.
And yet it was with some trepidation that he reentered the Tower. Where he was once revered, he could feel the darting eyes of people who stood against what he had fought for - and what had ultimately won out. Why were all these people mad at him? After all, he had simply said the Games should continue, and the all-loved Terra Cacus had ended up agreeing with him. Had they all, then, not fought for the same cause? The unification of Panem through the glory of the Games?
There was still one, unfortunately outstanding point of contention in Monty's life - but maybe today was not the day to address it. After all, Everett had volunteered. That was honorable in its own right. To go willingly into battle, even if it was in support of the Vox. Or - perhaps it was better to imagine it this way - in defense of Panem. Yes, that was something Monty could get behind: not that Everett had gone to fight for the Vox, but rather against the Tarrens.
And so it was with an easy enough joy, with an easy enough relief that he saw his little brother in the lobby. In the Capitol, safe, and Mentoring - all things Monty was proud to see Everett embodying. "Ev," he called, his emotions belying themselves in that one syllable. "Guess I won't be fighting exclusively for Two this go round."

In 1999, the speedster known as The Flash began fighting crime in Central City, Oregon, combining the inspiring presence and gentle demeanor of Superman with the facts-driven and logical mind of Batman.
Later that same year, Coast City, California would get its own hero in the Green Lantern, a cocky man who claimed to be an officer from an intergalactic peacekeeping force assigned to this sector of space.
2003 would see the appearance of the Green Arrow, a Robin Hood-like figure who would target and expose corrupt officials in Star City, Washington and surrounds.
Though not as notable as The Trinity of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman, the three Heroes of the West Coast would be instrumental and important in the Silver Age of Superheroes.

47. Creation [Abby, Miri]
Tumblr media
Happy Last Wednesday of March! It's that time again, another theme to get the writing juices going. This time, we got the theme of creation!
Raw, unedited writing below. We got Leonardo making observations about Abby and Vincent in her section, while Miri's section is cute and sweet with Luke and Barbatos.
Check out my masterlist!
-----
Abby
Leonardo stood in the doorway of Vincent's room, sunlight pouring into the room, but there was something else in the room that could rival the sun in brightness and warmth.
Vincent's back was to him, his apron tied loosely around his torso. His feet were planted firmly on the floor as he sat on his stool. And if that had been the only thing of note, he might have left, to leave a fellow artist to his creation devices.
But the second set of feet, dangling between Vincent's, and a smaller hand holding onto a paintbrush in his, had the older vampire smiling with affection.
He remembered the day he had found Abby struggling to make her lines looser and how he had given her some tips, as an artist, but also to help with her general demeanor. Scrunched up like a nervous kitten wouldn't help her in the long run and he had hoped the message got across when he was teaching her.
Now, it seemed it was Vincent's turn to help her, much closer to her than he had been, sitting in his lap. Both of them were growing bolder, he thought. A natural process for Abby as she was overcoming her timidity, but she wasn't the only one growing bold. Leonardo looked at his hand, remembering when he had attempted to pat her head, something he had done countless times to encourage the little cara before, only for Vincent's hand to stop him, pushing him away from her not unlike a lover would protect his love from unwarranted advances.
He chuckled and pushed away from the door frame, closing the door fully behind him. He also couldn't help but see Vincent's hand tightening on Abby's thigh, a blue eye briefly glancing directly at him for a split second before returning his attention back to the painting session.
Even for all of his long life, Leonardo felt the briefest of chills from that single look and started walking away, lighting his cigarillo as he walked away.
"Cavolo…" he whispered, shaking his shoulders of their tension.
----------
Miri
Miri looked at the timer on her D.D.D and checked the time, Luke standing nearby. Barbatos held onto oven mitts that matched Miri's and Luke's mitts, a gentle smile on his face.
"Is it almost done?" Luke asked.
"It's pretty close, I think." Miri answered, checking the time one last time. "It should be pretty close to that cake we saw on Devilgram the other day."
"What was it called?"
"In the Human Realm, we called it a castella cake."
"And you bake it with steam?"
"Yep, that's what makes it so light and fluffy, along with all the air inside it. That's what makes it move like that."
"It wiggled so much in that Devilgram video, it looked alive!"
"I hope this one wiggles just as much!"
A soft beeping soon echoed in the kitchen, alerting all three to the time.
"Moment of truth, everyone!" Miri said, stepping to one side of the giant oven. Luke scrambled over to her side, oven mitts at the ready.
"Please be cautious as I open the door." said Barbatos, carefully pulling down on the handle.
Hot air soon filled the room, making Miri and Luke wince, but only momentarily as the smell of baked cake soon followed. Barbatos pulled the rack forward, hot water sloshing around in the pan.
"On the count of three," Barbatos said, putting his mitted hands on one side of the baking pan. Miri and Luke took the opposite corners, ready to lift the massive cake from its watery bath, which was both longer and stood taller than all three bakers combined.
On his command, the three lifted the massive cake, moving it to the nearby counter, amazed at how much it did indeed move and wiggle, dancing to their movements.
"Wahh!" Luke exclaimed, "it does move!"
"Told you it would!" Miri laughed.
Barbatos only smiled gently.
"I'm sure that everyone will be pleased with your efforts, both of you. A job well done."
"We all made it together!" Miri said, "and I think there should be enough for everyone! Even Beel!"
"Perhaps you should message them to come to the castle?" Barbatos was already turning away, intent on finding his master, hopefully still working on the paperwork left for him that day.
"Yeah, it's waaay too big for me to carry by myself. We can have a castella party!"
"Yeah!" Luke said, "I'll message Simeon and Solomon! They have to come too!"

Libraries!
They have:
Books (obviously)
Comic books!
DVDs! (some libraries also have VHS tapes, still, but it's not as common anymore)
Music! (again, on CD usually, these days)
Audiobooks!
Almanacs, dictionaries and other giant reference books you usually can't check out
Newspapers and magazines (new and backlog, local and other)
Sometimes there are floppies/single issue comics but if there are, don't expect them to be organized or in good shape... lol. Ours had some but only in the kids' section and it was all just stuffed into magazine boxes.
Computers, printers, sometimes scanners
Quiet rooms, study rooms, story time for kids, various events
The library I worked at also had blue books (like, used car prices) and offered things like tax help workshops but that definitely depends on the library
Some libraries have 3D printers and maker spaces, or video games you can check out, but that depends on the library. Personally the libraries I've gone to haven't had those things but it's worth checking.
Also access to Libby and Hoopla, which are websites that let you watch movies, read comics, and access audiobooks or ebooks (libby also has an app, idk if hoopla does)
Also some libraries have their own online ebook interfaces for certain books (KCLS does, at least) or can sync with adobe ereader on desktop for example
etc!
