i'll be very candid with you my friend: i'm totally lost too !!!!!!! your comic-reading journey is about as green as mine and so i cant personally give you a super great guide- but beautiful people on the internet exist who've done most of the dirty work for us when sorting through the stories you 'should' read so i'm borrowing them to help us both

you can read this article to read about one person's advice with exploring krakoa and- in their opinion- its most 'significant' stories, though to summarize the issues they recommend looking into:

it's a lot longer and more in depth than the last article, so again i only really rec peaking at this one depending on how deep you wanna go, or if you decide you want to explore more after reading the more 'key' stories. def wouldn't hurt to give it a glance just in case you read some summaries that pique your interest!

all in all, don't take these as concrete rules or guides to follow: comics are meant to be fun, these are just good starting points if you're feeling lost or overwhelmed. at the end of the day, you decide ultimately what you want to read and which stories interest you the most

putting this last bc i wnna put a post cut here cuz im just gonna go on awhile SORRY this one means a bit.

i'm putting * next to my all time albums here

for the first 13 years of my life, i would say it's 70/80s chart hits through my parents, and modern pop radio on my own. mostly the latter. the first song i ever became aware of was nelly furtado's maneater when i was 5. most of what i really did grow up around was pop radio like your generic local station shit. then my parents got cable when i was 7 which introduced me to more... curated things? i'm gonna speak in australian pay tv networks and artists here i'm sorry i hate speaking like this. but [v] (may it rest in peace for its shuttering is easily one of the worst losses i've ever experienced) was like my slow awakening to my more "alternative" tastes than the general packaged pop i'd been so used to at that point, in the way it was mostly just 2008-12 peak era (imo) triple j buzz bands and that kind of thing. artists i really remember getting into that time because of that were the presets – who'd just released apocalypso* at this point – and ladyhawke* – who had just released her self titled debut (another all timer.) very related is that modular (the label that issued these albums, and of tame impala fame) genuinely had some fucking top tier albums out in 2008, like van she's v and another all timer and pitchfork best new album in ghost colours* by cut copy. insane year for them, but back to me. i was really getting into listening to the weekly top 40 on radio around this time too. my local station was mostly syndicated programming from 2day from a certain hour. like their usual weekdaily thing was their morning show which i have never heard for some reason, then it was just local in house selected garbage that i have permanently seered into my mind now until 3 when they started the pre-record syndicated stuff like hamish and andy or kyle and jackie o. which after 5pm is when The Fucking Goods happened and you got the ill-fated hot 30 which was pretty much became a ritual thing for me when i was 9 until it was canceled when i was 11. on weekends i would listen to my beloved take 40 which i continued doing up until i was 12 and gained a proper internet connection. when i think back on this time period it it's kinda crazy how much music i was listening to and the fact it was just something i did and didn't know anybody else who was like crazy deep in music like this. but it did give me my extensive knowledge of 2000s/early 2010s popular music which i've been curating in a playlist since i was 15 that was just a comfort list turned mutant.

but the turning point in my taste came when i was 12 and got an non-poor person internet connection aka wifi, an ipad and a dream. at this point i was slowly moving away from charts and into full albums – something i never really did. one of the first albums i owned was rogue trader's here comes the drums* and that until katy perry's teenage dream were like the only albums i'd heard back to back. first album i brought in 2013 was ellie goulding's halcyon* and i pretty much burnt it to my pc and listened to it and it only for like 6 months of the year, before buying calvin harris' 18 months* on itunes when they did that u have 3 singles from this album u can buy the rest for $6 thing. by this time i was starting to get on socials and drift into fandom. one of the first ones was dan & phil who are big fans of muse and spoke about how origin of symmetry* is their fave album by them and i was like, damn i gotta check this out. from that point onwards for another like 6 months was the only album and first discogs ever sought out and listened to. through being in that fandom i started getting into music circles which happened right at the biggest turning point of my life. by mid 2014 i'd started to venture into the 2014 tumblr-core stuff; sky ferreira, vampire weekend, the strokes, grimes and twigs, and my first super hyperfixated musical act, foster the people. i was on indie twitter by this point and consumed by it and had completely stopped and refused to listen to top 40 radio which i still don't do. by 2015 i'd basically crafted my alternative taste and begun collecting vinyl. here's my top artists from my old last.fm to illustrate where i am as a 14 year old:

it pretty much stayed like this for somewhat unchanged until 2017 when i got a spotify subscription and started listening to radiohead a fair bit lol. by early 2018 i was starting to listen to fantano-core stuff and by extension got into post-punk, iceage-ajacent bands which led me to posh isolation and started my interest in noise/ambient stuff. late 2019 i started listening to the brixton windmill-ajacent bands like black midi and bc,nr and started using rateyourmusic and just discovering things over time.

Okay! @stankhead just tagged me in their brand new tag game about our top artistic influences. I really really love this and am honestly very grateful to grem for giving me a little opportunity to be reflective about this right now; for context, i am about two weeks out from graduating with an MFA in creative writing (fiction track) from [redacted prominent midwestern university w decently-renowned 40 yr old mfa which has been attacked in recent years by humanities-hating admin, there you go, now everybody who follows the chronicle of higher ed can probably dox my ass] and so it’s nice, at this transition moment, to take a step back and think about the influences that have shaped my writing on a global level. I think it’s super useful and i’m typing this in a word doc so i can hang onto it for later. Okay enough chit chat. I’m gunna try to limit this to no more than like 4 or 5

Carmen Maria Machado—CMM is one of my biggest, most direct, and most obvious influences. She came to my college campus to lead a workshop and give a reading in the months leading up to the publication of her body and other parties. I was a sophomore (or maybe this was late freshman year?????) and encountering her work totally and completely shifted what i write and how i write. Complete reframe on what speculative fiction was and what it could do. HBaOP went on to have a big impact on me (esp. formally weird stories like Especially Heinous) but at the moment i was obsessed with her stories the husband stitch and my body, herself

Peak Cracked Dot Com—but especially everything DOB touched when he was there! I was a regular cracked reader from the age of 11 to the exact day that all those layoffs happened, and by regular i mean that every day i had access to the internet i read/watched/listened every piece of new content they published, whether or not i gave a shit about the subject matter. Cracked’s influence on me is less easy to tangibly track than CMM, but i literally boiled my forming brain in that site and i think the style permeates me work. Cracked had this strand of pedantry that necessitated dwelling with strange research and subject matter and letting things sort of spiral and cook and letting the obsession change the voice. (also, subject matter—this article inspired an obsession w Dorothy Arnold which became a story that will be published later this year.) It had a huge impact on my sense of humor and the way i approach dialogue, even when i’m not conscious of that. For dialogue i am especially thinking of video content like after hours and agents of cracked (the way the “swaim proving that that guy fu-u-u-cks goats” monologue hits in this ep *changed me forever). In general, i think my approach to narrative voice was really impacted by the fact that i spend my adolescence reading DOB’s old “my brief time as (blank)” articles and shit like “yer gramma was built like a brick shit-house in her day”

The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy—man. This is one of the great novels of all time, isn’t it???? i was assigned it in ib english senior year of high school and i’ve tried to read it at least once a year since. Pieces of the language regularly float back to me—“a viable, dieable age” “a sariflapping” “the time was ten to two” “the history woman in the history house.” Roy does things with language that i didn’t know you could do—makes paragraphs which are so thick and lush that they feel humid and green. Sticks words together to make new and better ones. Talks frankly about the story being told by the story. Like, that’s one of the things that’s so brilliant, right? From go, you know that sophie mol and velutha will die. The question is not what will happen in the story but how the story will be told and how it will mean to us. The language bears that out. It has totally suffused in my brain, it’s a lens through which i read everything. Also i think it’s about time for my annual reread of this book, ha.

What the moon brought by Sadie rose weilerstein—see, this is why i love this tag. I would not have pegged this book as an influence before being tasked w this reflexive task, but it looms large in my mind!!! My copy of this book—a collection of stories about sisters Ruth and Debbie as they go through their jewish year in the american suburbs, living their lives and observing jewish holy days—was ancient, falling apart; it had been purchased for my mother and her siblings in the early 60s. i was obsessed with it. it was the first book i read which treated Judaism as a fact of american life, if that made sense? Or the first book where i was conscious of Judaism as a force shaping story, time, etc. i mean it’s literally about what the moon brought; a recognition of the lunar jewish calendar. A different kind of time keeping. It told me that jewish stories were and are interesting, singular, rich, and worth pursuing. including a picture of the cover bc i love the cover :)

The fourth state of matter by jo ann beard—this essay is amazing, not that i am the first to say so. It’s worth reading, though i’ll warn that its content (it’s about a shooting that happened on a college campus) can obviously be tough to deal with. This has a very direct impact in my mind. My first creative writing prof ever used this essay to teach us about psychic distance, and learning about psychic distance was like—not like getting a new tool in my little writer’s toolkit, but like having the key that unlocked the kit in the first place.

BACK FROM (an all-too-brief visit) HOMEEEE

THREE MORE WEEKS.

Home was nice. Not super super restful, but I didn't do all that much running around which was good for my soul. Played with the puppy a bunch :) Randomly watched quite a bit of Scandal S2 with my sister.. might have to watch that whole show sometime (after I finish up my Max watchlist, of course). Glad I left on saturday because I never would've gotten my school stuff done (as much as I wish I could've just stayed and stayed and stayed).

LOWKEY,,, now that I'm officially stream-hopping and that's part of the monthly budget, I might get crunchyroll sometime and get back into Fairy Tail. I haven't watched that show in like eight years so I may need to start over. That would still be fun, I remember being really into it but just losing interest during the competition arc. I don't think it had gotten bad, I'd just gotten busy (I think the spring musical had started up!).

Also anything I learn about Dream nowadays is forced upon me against my will (and I haven't done a deep dive on this most recent thing), but it does not surprise me at all considering his audience at the peak of his fame that he could have been inappropriately involved with minors. This isn't even a personality judgement, it's just the fact that he had a young, dedicated fanbase of girls and how he would defend their behavior and stuff. I remember one video specifically where he said his fans didn't engage in parasocial behavior (that was a big conversation in 2020/2021 iirc) when that was highkey false? Like the stans def did? Anyway, anyway. Internet drama, amiright?

Wait hold on speaking of internet men who rely on a female audience (no comment on matt rife, I think we've said all we needed to say and anyone continuing the conversation is beating a long-dead horse), there's this one guy on tiktok who suggests having a proverbial "handkerchief" that can be dropped near a guy you're interested in so he'll pick it up and you can start a convo from there or whatever, and I don't know how to feel about that advice other than the fact that everything he says sounds supremely silly? And ik ik no more dating advice tiktoks to protect my peace but these ones confuse me more than anything.

Today I'm thankful for the time I got to spend at home :)

Starfall Street

At first I didn’t think I’d care much for this route, because it bothered me that we were getting yet another discount Team Skull as an evil team lol(And I hope they stop now and we get something new next gen) BUT. I really loved the Team Star Leaders and their backstories... Just a bunch of  quirky outcast kids who stood up to bullying.... and their designs are all really cool... My favorite is Ortega because I love a superpowered haughty kid, but they’re all very charming

I loved the boss battles, the music(def my favorite boss music out of the 3 routes), the atmosphere, the leaders’ animations, it all worked really well. Didn’t care much about the let’s go battles tho, they felt a bit more clunky than they looked in the trailers

Also it took me an embarrassing long time to realize their Starmobiles were not in fact normal Revavrooms but rather monotypes with custom movesets. I was so confused why my fire moves weren’t super effective lmaooo

I LOVE Penny so much, she is peak character design, her dialogue's really fun and I just Relate to her. She feels like someone I'd be friends with in middle school and share my pokemon OCs with and she would show me her angsty emo Umbreon fursona. I love the fact she is an Eevee stan, it reminds me of my deviantart pokemon fandom days when eeveelutions were everywhere. am i making sense. do you think Penny ever gets in internet arguments with people that say they hate eevelutions because they’re overrated. she calls them her “veevees” i love her so much

Idk shy characters can often be written in a very one-note “precious cinnamon roll who is so fragile and pwecious” way and Penny feels like a much more genuine portrayal of that kind of socially awkward geeky girl. Also she is a literal criminal so good for her

Victory Road

I liked the gym leaders of this gen but there’s not much to say about them in terms of plot lol, they’re just random bosses that you beat and that’s it. The gym leaders usually function mostly as celebrities/important people to provide more worldbuilding and their characterization is more subtle. I liked how they show how Grusha has become cold(ha) and detached because he had to abandon his snowboarding career, little things like that. It would have been nice to see these characters been developed slightly more, maybe through some sidequests or even the Gym Tests. For example, I love that the Gym Test tells us that Tulip and Dendra are childhood friends but it would have been nice to see them interact or maybe have some more exposition dialogue about that somewhere else idk

Nemona as a rival IS a bit boring but i feel that’s because the Victory Road “storyline” really doesn’t have any "plot" for her to shine, it’s just basically has her repeat the exact same dialogue every time you challenge a gym. But it sucks because they could definitely have worked that better, because you see the potential of her character in the final storyline when she’s bantering with the other two and in her post-game dialogue.

Like, I love that she's actually just a huge dumbass with a hyperfixation for battles that wants to be able to share her passion with others but everyone else is too intimidated by her and thinks she’s just some “gifted” champion that they can’t measure to, and meanwhile she’s frustrated that people feel this way because she’s not special at all, she just worked hard for something she loved and she loves seeing others doing the same, but now all of a sudden because she has this title everyone treats her like she’s too good for them

And THAT is the reason why she is so ectastic to find someone like the Player who doesn’t back down from her. But they don’t show this side of her AT ALL until the post-game pretty much. So she just comes across as generic cheerful rival and it gets repetitive.

Also love how in the beginning of the game we see that she lives in a big ass mansion full of servants and the game just never makes any mention of that and then in the very end they just casually mention that she’s the daughter of Pokemon Steve Jobs

Path of Legends

ARVEN..... MY BOY ARVEN.....

ok uh I’m tired now so this will be short. Like pretty much everyone else the minute Arven said his dog was sick I was immediately 100% more invested in this story. That final cutscene when Mabosstiff is fully healed got me genuinely teary-eyed. He was just so happy......

I don’t have much to say except Arven is the best character in the game and I loved him so much more than I expected. Titan battles were fine tho I wish there was more to them than basically just running around after them, like some more elaborate puzzles to find them and all.

Anyways, by the end of the game I really loved all 3 rivals and was sold on their lil friend group. And this game has definitely become one of my top favorites up there with B/W and Su/Mo. In general this game gives me some similar vibes to Sun&Moon, specially in regards to the subtle character writing which I love

I’m sick atm but other than that I’m doing good! I can’t remember who all I watched for my first MCC but I know I tried to watch a million because I was inbetween mini hyper fixes atp like I was between wilbur and sap and like the DSMP as a whole when it comes to major ones so I was very indecisive

I think my next one I tried doing Wilbur,Sap,Punz and BBH or something like that but someone’s was too far behind everyone else’s and it was hurting my brain so I had to turn theirs off

I have a picture of my laptop (from back when it wasn’t broken RIP laptop I’ve been to lazy to take to ask how much it would be to fix it) and I’m pretty sure in the pic I have Wilbur,Sap and Punz’s POVs up but like I feel like I remember talking to my best friend cause even those three was a lot for my brain and my internet so I think after that MCC was when I switched to exclusively Punz

The only MCC he’s been in that I haven’t watched his POV is all stars which I didn’t even watch live all the way cause we had a church dinner so sjxjxj

Other than that it’s always been him and for ones he hasn’t been in I didn’t watch like the first MCC pride the one with Wilbur’s fire alarm and stuff because my Punz hyperfix was probably at its new peak or getting there so I had no interest in any POV that wasn’t his but the next MCC pride I watched Foosh and then Hannah’s first MCC I watched her and underdogs I watched Foosh again !!

Likely I’ll either watch Hannah or Foosh if he’s not in this one but idk maybe Sam if he’s in it it’s been a long time since I’ve watched a Sam MCC I don’t do well with vods something in my brain doesn’t like them so the only Sam MCC I think I’ve watched is when he teamed with Preston tho now that I think about it maybe I watched the one he teamed with dnf and Quackity or at least saw clips because I def watched Punz’s live I remember that team so well because that’s the MCC where Fundy purposely did a glitch he knew was illegal and I got so upset because it affected Punz’s team a fair bit :((

Wilbur would be fun to watch as well tho maybe BBH hmm there’s always a few options but for some reason I just usually default to Foosh it seems ? I guess because I like the face cam MCC and something about the vibes are similar to Punz and I just love Foosh anyways and he’s my second most watched streamer for sure so I guess that’s why

jokes aside i will use this ask to talk about something else related but its not really something thats taught per se but more that i like analyzing stories and understanding the underlying themes and narratives. critical analysis of media is something developed over time by dipping your toes and looking into many other forms of media and properly engaging with it. it starts with questions like "huh why did the author do that" or "wow why does this character do what they did" and understanding how it fits into a narrative and the central theme of a work. its fun to think and understand what a work is trying to Do, and im honestly always a little surprised when people just jump onto widespread fanon for easy jokes/clicks instead of coming to their own conclusions. its fun to meme around of course but its weird that some people just treat a piece of media like its Only the joke if you get what i mean (fgo for example is def egregious with their fanbase abt this). the argument on hows and whys of critical media analysis, someones dedication/time/care for it and etc are all things someone has to decide for themselves

with fgo specifically it comes down to understanding that fgo is a culmination of many other nasuverse works smushed together into a gacha. does it always do these things perfectly? ofc not, theres always going to be downward spirals on a gacha project with multiple uncredited writers who are given leeway for tons of shit that reasonably wouldnt fly with other franchises had it not been for the fate name and the highs it entails swinging in their favor. however that doesnt mean that there isnt good shit that fgo does, and to its credit fgo absolutely has some of the higher (if not highest) peaks in nasuverse writing when it actually has a chance given to it.

there's no true being Correct when it comes to this due to the whole subjectivity of analyzing media, but I think people find me Being Correct about fgo and other stuff simply bc i like talking about what I interpreted from it and people think about that perspective and agree. and if they dont they can also just hit da bricks and come to their own conclusions, and thats also okay

so i went ahead and pulled some cards for myself today, i used to keep a written tarot journal but 1 my carpultunnel hurts when i write by hand alot and 2 i wanted to share a little bit more about my journey with my faith here as well. so im gonna be opening a little window into more of my personal life and write about the cards i pull for myself here and talk about why i think each card pertains to me or my situation. i hope it will inspire others to start their own journey

8 of cups: this def pertains to jorge, i was in love with him for like 8 months and it turned out to be nothing, i fell and he pretended to, now all this situation brings me is pain, and its time to walk away even though it makes me sad to do so. this card usually shows up when we know we have put all our chips in and the return is not what we had hoped for and now its time to leave this person or situation behind. i think this also may pertain to me ignoring some bit physical issues i have been facing and choosing not to put them at the forfront of my mind. trying to pretend like everything is good even though im actually worried. i need to focus on what actually brings me joy, outside of another person, but just me. im working on that and with any hope i will make it to the other side of this.

temperance reversed: this card sometimes can indicate over indulgence, and i deff have been over indulging in alot of things i shouldnt like finding comfort in food or in adderal or in weed, sleep. i need to start to find some balance here soon. it can also indicate that its time to shake off some dead leaves and is time for me to re alighn my daily life so that its more inline with my goals and my future self. this card is also indicative of self healing, its time to do some inner work to heal the most damaged parts of myself, and this may need to be done more so in private, since this tumblr is basically my private corner of the internet and no one i know in real life knows about this blog i will choose to do it here!

knight of wands : this card usually points to a project or a vision that you see that you want to peruse, i have recently been making candles and i started messing around with pollyresin and i had the idea to start making plugs for people with stretched ears like mine with little cute flowers in them in a variety of sizes, i was looking for some new ones online a few weeks ago and couldnt find any and it was disappointing so im thinking of making some!! and this card is a sign to go for it!!.

Queen of swords : this card really was a describer card, it tells me i look for intellectual relationships instead of just heavy emotional ones, while i consider myself an em-path i also believe that i am a truth seeker and i have little time for bullshit and can usually see right through people, i have set boundaries for how i expect to be treated which can intimidate some people but the way i see it is if you treat me right i will treat you right and if you treat me wrong i just wont treat you at all, im not interested in confrontation or going back and forth i will just cut you out of my life if you are treating me badly.

king of pentacles : this one pertains alot with wealth and achieving your goes monetarily i think this also speaks a little about my small business, the candle shop has been kind of quiet since fall, i need to get back into that and into making my plugs, this card indicates that if i reach for my goals that it could be rewarding money wise, this card encourages me to move forward with my projects and put some more effort into them and not let them die, so thats what im gonna do!!!!

well anyways here is a small peak into my personal life and thoughts and how the spirits pertain to my paticular situations, i hope this inspires others to start their own journey!

Ok ok ok!!! So last night I had a dream that I rec’ed a dmbj/svsss crossover fanfic, but never actually read the fic. Then I woke up because my cat was yowling in the middle of the night.

After talking with @1ebilcat and @merinnan for a while, I managed to flesh out a basic outline of what that fic might look like. Please know that because this is a crossover with svsss, there is papapa mentioned. several times.... (nothing actually explict is described because that would make this not a not-fic)

So one day SQQ and SQH are messing around trying to figure out what this new “unique one of a kind treasure” does when SQH accideny drops some melon seeds on it or something and it suddenly activates.

Meanwhile in dmbj world, the Iron Triangle are pretty much retired from the whole tomb raiding business, but still run Wushanju (better now that wu xie actually concentrates on running it instead of running off every week). Someone comes in with a strange artifact that they found while clearing out a deceased relatives store room they want to sell. Wu xie buys it because he’s never seen anything like it before and wants to research it.

Xiaoge gets super weird vibes from the object, but it doesn’t seem overtly menacing, so he leaves wu xie be (if wu xie is preoccupied he gets in marginally less trouble). However, when xiaoge touches the object with wu xie and Pangzi nearby, it grows a point and gives xiaoge a paper cut. The blood touches the object and it activates.

One blinding flask of light and disorienting tumble latter, they find themselves at the foot of a picturesque mountain with a gate that labels them at the foot of cang qiong mountain. They’re quickly found by the cang qiong crew and everyone is super weird out by each other. Things happen and eventually LBH crashes in and says his shizun is missing mobei-jun is there too because SQH is also missing. More communication happens and everyone realizes this is the artifact’s fault. No one knows where the artifact is.

Meanwhile SQQ and SQH wake up someone completely unfamiliar to either of them. After using magic to light things up, they see that they are in a tomb absolutely covered in different depictions of penises: there’s pictures on the walls, statues of men with WAY TOO BIG penises, sooooo many dildos. Queue SQQ immediately launching himself at SQH with a shriek of outrage because “THERE’S NO WAY THIS ISN’T YOUR FAULT YOU SHITTY HACK AUTHOR!!”

Back with the iron triangle, there’s a research montage going on as they and other CQ sect member scour the libraries for any information about the mcguffin that caused all this randomness. At some point in all of this, iron triangle go to MQF to see if he can take a look at Xiaoge regarding his memory problems. After some more research, MQF learns about an herb that could stabilize his qi and stabilize the fluctuations that cause his amnesia.

Turns out that while proper cultivation doesn’t exist in dmbj world, the Zhang family line has managed to cultivate the family line to extended life but because they’re the only ones that can (maybe due to bronze gate?) it has a lot of dangers. 

The herb needed is of course incredibly rare and only found in some horribly dangerous location. Xiaoge wants to go alone because he doesn’t want wu xie and pangzi to be in danger, but knows that they won’t be left behind. There’s some agnst had about how Xiaoge feels he’s brought pain and suffering to wu xie and pangzi, but of course neither of them are having any of it. The three of them talk about how they’ve never regretted meeting each other and how the adventures they’ve shared have brought meaning and joy into their lives. 

The three of them cobble together some hotpot and spend the night before setting off soaking their feet side by side, content and secure in their bonds with each other. Its very sweet. 

The next day, the three of them set off with LQG and LBH. Right before arriving at the location, bullshit happens and Iron Triangle get trapped in the location where the herb is located and trigger a wife plot in which papapa is the only way out. Iron triangle proceeds to have incredibly kinky marathon sex. LBH and LQG can only listen awkwardly from the boundary, not able to get through, but also not wanting to leave completely just in case something else happens. The sexual tension between LBG and LQG grows to new heights. Neither will do anything about it until SQQ is back home safe. 

After the marathon is over and iron triangle has time to actually sleep, the three of them get cleaned up with the herb in tow and head back to Cang Qiong. They get the herb to MQF who tells them it will take at least a day to prepare the pill for xiaoge to take. That night, Iron triangle has sweet, tender, affirming sex because while they all agree that while xiaoge not losing his memories every few decades is for the better, it also means that he’ll have to carry the memories of wu xie and pangzi long after they’er gone, with no hope of them ever being together again.  Xiaoge assures wu xie and pangzi that this is what he wants, to know that at least at some point, he loved and was loved, that he had a connection to this world and that his life has meaning beyond his obligations to the Zhang clan. Wu xie and pangzi make xiaoge promise to live on after they pass and to find him in their next lives.

Xiaoge takes the pill and the search for a way back home continues again in earnest. Eventually, LBH travels back to the demon realm and figures out how to track the artifact through space and time because his protag halo is too strong to keep him away from his love interest for too long. 

Wu xie and pangzi learn some basic meditation techniques that disciples would learn when first arrive at the mountain. Its too late for them to cultivate to longevity and there’s no guarantee that its even possible in their home world to cultivate if you aren’t a Zhang. Regardless, wu xie and pangzi don’t want immortality, they just want to spend as much time as they can with xiaoge. Wu xie is gifted a flute made with special bamboo and pangzi is gifted a wine jug from Zui Xian Peak. Both have spiritual properties that may or may not be able to function when back home, but they’er good gifts given in good faith. 

LBH, losing patience, forces iron triangle to get moving so he can save SQQ. He bursts through time and space and iron triangle plus LBH, MBJ, and LQG end up in dmbj world, in Wushanju. After scaring the crap out of Wang Meng, the group realizes that while several days have passed in svsss world, its only been a few hours since iron triangle was pulled away. Which is good because Ershu was likely to call in an army if wu xie went missing for no apparent reason. The whole thing would have been way too messy. Probably more than one person would have died. 

What follows is a night of LBH, LQG, and MBJ attempting different divination spells to try and pin point the exact location of SQQ and SQH to varying degrees of success. None of them are good at divination. Regardless, the three of them manage to get a general location of where the two missing peak lords might be and the iron triangle gets to work searching the internet for any rumors or information of any tombs that might be in the area. (Its just wu xie and pangzi looking, but xiaoge standing around still in his beautiful borrowed robes from CQ is good moral support.) 

They hear about some local legends about an ecentric noble from a bygone era that was buried in a very peculiar tomb. Potential tomb located, the whole group prepares to head out. the SVSS gang is convinced to not fly over immediately because that would be waaaaay to flashy and draw unwanted attention to them that would delay things even more. The six of them cram in together into the van and head off. Svss gang are forced into modern clothing and are def a little too big to comfortably sit in the van. LBH hits his head on a doorway at least once on this adventure. At lease two women and maybe a guy slip their numbers to him too. The man is supernaturally gorgeous.

After some more road trip shenanigans,  they arrive at the rumored entrance to the tomb and head in. The tomb has a few traps here and there, but is practically child’s play for the iron triangle to get through. Svsss are appropriately impressed by their competence and LBH and LQG think specifically about how the iron triangle is a true threesome that supports each other and fights together. MBJ just wants his hamster boy back. 

When they near the central chamber of the tomb, they hear the faint sounds of fighting which spurs SVSSS to speed ahead while iron triangle tries to get them to at least be a little cautious about setting off traps. 

The sight that LBH sees when he breaks into the main chamber like the kool aid man is a disheveled SQQ beating SQH over the head with a baton? Kind of. Its a baton carved into the shape of a penis. SQQ immediately stops and tries to put on his “peerless immortal cultivator” mask on with a flick of his fan, but its hard for that to be effective when your hair is all over the place and your in a room covered in penises. SQH dives for his king’s thighs and cries in relief that he’s no longer trapped in a room full of dildos and penises with SQQ. 

Then the iron triangle catches up and the realization that SVSSS gang is in modern clothing sinks in. The transmigrators freeze for just a second before jumping in front of iron triangle with a thousand questions. They ask in their shitty English which leaves answering the questions mostly to wu xie because pangzi’s english is pretty spotty and xiaoge doesn’t like talking in general, let alone a foreign language.

The whole group eventually leaves the tomb and all its phallic glory behind and get above ground where there’s phone service again. After a bit of searching, the transmigrators realize that while this world is very similar to their original world, there’s no signs of “Proud Immortal Demon Way” ever being written here, no other signs pointing to the two of them existing in this world. SVSS gang are very concerned as they watch SQQ and SQH talk in a strange language to these relative strangers, but don’t feel like its the time to figure out whats going on until everyone gets back home. The now expanded group makes their way back to Wushanju in an even more cramped road trip back. SQQ absolutly ends up in LBH’s lap at least once and SQH ends up with MBJ’s head in his lap at some point. its all very cute as the feeling of everyone being accounted for and safe settles in. 

Maybe there’s some stuff about SQQ and SQH being transmigrators and them being tempted for all of half a second to stay in this world that is so very much like their original world but choosing to go back with their lovers and the lives they’ve made for themselves. 

As the complete SVSSS gang now gets ready to head back home, the Iron triangle makes a huuuuge goody bag of all the snacks and treats that SQQ and SQH have been missing ever since they’ve transmigrated and put together a basic netbook plus solar charger for them to take back. There won’t be internet service back in SVSS world, but they loaded it up with a whooole bunch of web novels and pop songs, along with a few spare parts. 

SVSSS gang finally makes their way home after having a large farewell dinner at Wushanju at Pangzi’s insistence and LBH bullies his way into helping out. Its a very sweet scene of laughing and drinking. After dinner is done, SVSSS decide to go back immediately because the time dilation thing would mean they would be away for longer than they would like. 

Once back home, LBH, SQQ, and LQG have a confrontation/conversation about their relationships with each other and figure out if they want to try being all together, all three of them. MBJ confines SQH to his northern palace. Specifically their bedroom. He was also the one that remembered to grab the artifact that caused all these problems to begin with while everyone else was distracted by dildo tomb.

Iron triangle goes back to their retirement, at peace with the decisions they’ve made and the lives they’ve chosen to live.

My DEPRESSION BEATING, fandom obsessing, shit-tastic FANTASTIC year in review!

TL;DR: I’m fixing my mental health and figuring out WHO THE FUCK I AM one fandom filled day at a time! Thank you to everyone who’s been there for me along the way. xoxo

stating the goddamn obvious here, it’s been a HELLUVA YEAR. One emotional rollercoaster after another but we’re ALMOST DONE. I know things aren’t gonna magically get better the second it flips to 00:01 on January first, but I’m excited to put this year behind me, and (SHOCKINGLY) a bit sad to see it go.

It was a year where the whole world completely stopped, we realized what is really important, what is really worth fighting for, and took a GODDAMN SECOND to just breathe.

For me personally, the year (which I’m counting off from November 1st) started out UNBELIEVABLY SHIT. I had just been kicked out of the country I called home for the last four years (thank you Brexit), I had ZERO job prospects, my depression was the WORST it had ever been, and I just didn’t want to get out of bed in the morning. And in the beginning, the pandemic felt like salt in the wound, an extra kick in the teeth to my early twenties that had already “failed to launch.”

But I tried to embrace the madness, really take advantage of the world (that I always thought moved to fast) properly slowing down, and take time to try and become myself again. I wanted to figure out what I loved and try and become a bit more like the person I was before my depression got so bad.

I often say I became that Manic Trash Planet Lady™ you see in sci-fi adventure films; a bit zany to say the least, with a million ideas and a very eclectic fashion sense, but embracing the insanity as it comes...

*cough cough* audrey, get to the goddamn point!

Right. lol. THE POINT IS! 

I’m not 100% “healed”, I’m not sure if I think depression is a “oh look you’re officially cured! hooray!” type of disease, but this year I let myself ENJOY SHIT for the first time in god knows how long. I still don’t know “wHaT i WaNt To dO WiTh mY LiFe”, but I’ve got a better idea and I’m heading in (what feels like) the right direction. And most of all, I can look back and say I am better than where I was a year ago.

So I wanted to say T H A N K Y O U to the mad lads on this website that introduced me to the fandoms, shows, movies, fics... THE SHIT that made me happy this year and were there to be one (BIG) piece in my healing journey.

November 2019  The Arcana (Visual Novel)

I had just gotten home and I was in a LOOOOOOW place. Randomly decided to download this app when it came up and it proceeded to ruin my life (and my bank account...) for pretty much the rest of the year. It was exactly what I needed to get me through a tough time and I was thoroughly, horse-blinders-up-to-the-rest-of-the-world, OBSESSED. These gorgeous magical fiends ruined me and all I could say was thank you.

Joined the fandom: November 2019 Obsession peaked: Late November Obsession faded: December 2019; I started a new job AND my bank statement came in and I realized I had accidentally spent over SIXTY BUCKS on this stupid app. No ragrets, but I definitely started to phase out at that point. December 2019 Hazbin Hotel (TV Series)

Y’ALL okay here me out. Am I proud of this one? No. Is the show crass as hell? OOOOOOOOHHHH YEAH. Did my angsty ass love it at the end of last year? DAMN STRAIGHT IT DID. *Officially* discovered this one thanksgiving weekend in 2019, but my Arcana phase was still raging pretty strong at that point so I didn’t really get in to it until later. EVERYBODY AND THEIR MOTHER NEEDS TO READ IT. It has everything and handles the reality sexual assault and it’s aftermath EXTREMELY well.

Was I ready for this show to ruin my fucking life? No.  Am I so glad it happened??? FUCK YEAH.

NEVER IN MY LIFE have I fallen off the deep end so quickly with a fandom. HOLY SHIT. This blog didn’t have much of an “identity” before, but I you said that this is a Yuri On Ice blog now I wouldn’t even be mad (nor could I really defend myself to the contrary... bc??? like??? just go LOOK at my archive). Craziest thing is I watched the first two episodes like?? a solid TWO YEARS ago, but I didn’t continue watching because I was just not in the right head space for all the love and silliness and positivity.

I had a hunch I was gonna like this show considering ALL of the characters are based off of famous classic authors from around the world... what I was NOT prepared for was just HOW MUCH I was going to love it. HOLY SHIT. The art style? Love it. The plot?? Bonkers, but so fun. THE VOICE CAST??? AMAZING. Highly recommend to anyone who wants to get in to anime, great place to start.

This fic grabbed me by the throat and WOULD NOT let me go. Praying for chapter 16! But the author is working on another STELLAR fic so I’m okay for now.

‘Everything or Nothing’ by CataclysmicEvent @cataclysmicevent2019​ -- University AU. FUCK THIS FIC. Started reading it as I was waiting for HWHFTM to update and BOI, this fic ROCKS. The alternating POV fits so well with the enemies/idiots-to-lovers vibe. Solid 10 outta 10.

‘The City Where Wind Blows’ by @raven-rein​ -- Cancer Death fic. *pained shriek* AAAAAAGUUUUUUUHHHH *gasp* aaaaaaAAAAAAHHHHHHHH, FUUUCCCCCCCCCKKKK MEEEEE. THIS FIC. Only the second fic I’ve ever cried to but I BAWLED MY GODDAMN EYES OUT. FUUUUUUUCK. I was not ready, never would have been ready. This is so tremendously well done, it killed me so beautifully, 

‘Haunted by Hatred’ by DeathBelle -- Canon compliant Soukoku. It is a CRIME that DeathBelle doesn’t have more BSD fics on her page, but this one is still brilliant.

June 2020 Trash Taste (Podcast)

Goddamn I love these chaotic lads so much.

As I became more and more comfortable with myself and my love for anime I stumbled upon these three goons, -- Joey, Connor, and Garnt, -- best known for there SUPER successful (mostly) anime YouTube channels. Even if you don’t watch anime, WATCH/LISTEN TO THIS PODCAST. The focus is mostly on their lives and the overall expat/immigrant experience, with a bit of anecdotal anime references sprinkled in. 

This show is both wholesome and heathenous in equal measure, and after having lived abroad for a significant portion of my (admittedly still quite short) life, it was such a breath of fresh air to hear people talk so openly about how living outside your home country is both wonderful and terrifying. They’re wonderfully candid about the fact that even if you love a place dearly, no where is perfect, and you WILL hate somethings about your new home even if the majority of the experience is fantastic. I cannot rate this show highly enough.

Joined the fandom: June 5th 2020, loved it from the first episode. Obsession peaked: July maybe? I was RELIGIOUS about watching the episodes as soon as they came out. Still watch every week, but less “on time.” Fandom friends: None :( but I have tricked my partner in to listening several times :) Obsession faded: It’s dimmed from where it was, but still going strong. Fanfics you NEED to read: NONE. NEVER PLAN TO. Hard and fast rule, I don’t read fics about real people. Characters played by real people, even that’s a maybe for me. But real-real people? FUCK NO. August 2020 Great Pretender (TV Series)

Spent most of the summer marinating in my BSD and YOI bubbles, until THIS BAD BOI came up on my Netflix recommendations. HOOOO BOI. This is some Anime Of The Year shit right here. Has a pretty original concept (Catch Me If You Can by way of Oceans 11-ish) but generally starts out like most other shounen (sans the super powers). AND THEN EPISODE FIVE HAPPENS. Not gonna spoil it but they TOOK THAT SHIT UP A NOTCH. Brilliant, even with a bit of an insane ending. GO WATCH THIS ONE.

November 2020... kind of. Figure Skating (Sport)

Okay this one is a bit hard to explain. 

I have been a DIE HARD figure skating for A LOOOOOONG time. My grandmother got me a hat from the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City and I remember watching even then. But I first became consciously aware of different skaters, my faves, etc. from about 2010. I vividly remember watching Plushenko skating in 2014 while on a school trip to Hawaii, and my friends laughing at me as I yelled at the TV.

But I didn’t TRULY get involved in the fandom side of it until this year. I had all this knowledge bottled up, but didn’t have any skating friends to talk to... UNTIL NOW. Super ironic that this happened in a year with almost NO skating, but I’ll take what I can get ;) Also did I stay up until FOUR-GODDAMN-THIRTY IN THE MORNING a few nights ago to stream Japanese Nationals on my phone??? YOU BET I DID.

It is so sweet an heartwarming, and it a roundabout way it brought me back to Tumblr (needed somewhere to vent my feelings considering I watched the movie a solid THREE YEARS after it came out, Tumblr seemed like the place to go lol). Watched in again in 2020 and it’s just as amazing.

Jekyll and Hyde (All media): Loved this book from the first time I read it in my first year of uni. But in December 2019, my fandom understanding reached its PEAK. The musical?? The comic?? YOOOOOO.

Dear Evan Hansen (Musical): I have BARELY engaged in fandom discourse, but the MUSIC. She fucking SLAPS.

Sirius the Jaeger (TV Series): This show is such an underrated gem. It literally has so much; "dead” family drama? Eclectic international group of monster hunters? Cowboys and vampires?? Yes, yes, and YES. And the main character has the same Japanese voice actor as Atsushi from BSD!

Studio Ghilbi (Films): My love affair with Ghibli goes back to when I was about 5 and BEGGED my mom to take me to the library so we could rent Kiki’s Delivery Service on DVD. But that love has been FULLY rejuvenated this year when I went to the Ghibli Film Festival in New York City (ironically in the last week in February). If you haven’t seen them, go watch From Up On Poppy Hill, Whisper of the Heart, and The Wind Rises. Spoilers, you’re probably gonna cry.

Kinda weird to ask, but is VT a good state to live in? My understanding of it is that it's very pretty, a good place for mushing, and that buying a house is big $$$ but renting is apparently pretty cheap? I live in GA right now but have always wanted to live in New England, and VT seems to be held in pretty high regard by a lot of New Englanders. Sorry if this is inappropriate to ask!

It’s not inappropriate to ask. It is a beautiful state with a small mostly rural population. I’d say we are known mostly for our small towns and fall foliage. We have laws against building billboards and buildings over certain heights so our natural beauty is preserved. I can’t even begin to tell you what an assault it is to the eyes to drive over the border to New Hampshire and just see a mass of billboards.

Living here is expensive. There is really no other way to parce it. Unless you want to be far away from modern amenities and resources. Owning a house is expensive in the county I am in which is the most populous. But if you can find a house (tight market) at a decent price your mortgage costs monthly will likely be lower than the average cost to rent a two bedroom in the city if Burlington (our largest city, poplulation around 42,000). Houses under 300,000 are often fixer uppers but there is such a small market of houses in that price range they get snapped up VERY quickly, sometimes before they are listed.

The issue with buying further out to get cheaper living that we have truly terrible internet here. And there are many pockets in the state (my entire town for example) where you will not have phone service without WiFi). This really limits what businesses can be where and if people can work from their homes etc. some small, more affordable towns may also lack jobs or even basic grocery stores so you will often find yourself driving at least 30-45 minutes for some essential items (my town doesn’t have any stores and we are building a country store right now which is super exciting).

There is a shortage of jobs here. Most jobs are service or tourism jobs (tourism is a large part of our economy). If you work in tech that is also popular.

If you are looking for a typical city experience you won’t find it here. Even in Burlington there is a huge focus on outdoor activities and buying local is a big part of the state culture. We don’t have a lot of stores other places may have, but we have a shitload of weird country stores selling local produce/meats. If you want to do more city related activities you can go to Montreal, Boston, NYC which are all a reasonable distance. If you want to hike, ski, kayak, fish, bike, hunt, dog sled etc. VT is for you. The Long Trail passes through the state and everybody that is physically capable will likely hike our tallest peak Mt. Mansfield at least once in their lives (the main trail is a fairly easy climb).

The state is majority white, majority democrat, but our diversity is increasing. We have a history of activism and we’re the first state to allow Gay marriage. Especially in Chittenden County you will find it is very LGBT friendly. When people make jokes about lesbian farmers it applies heavily here. My small rural town is full of Black Lives Matter posters and we fly a pride flag at our school. There are pockets of intolerance though (the Northeast Kingdom and parts bordering Canada for some reason). The SNL skit with Adam Driver about white supremecists looking for a white utopia and wanting to drive Subaru’s was scarily accurate. There are def pockets of racism here despite our history of democratic socialism and tolerance.

We have the most beer breweries per capita of any state last time I checked and have some of the best beer in the US. We have a lot of small/midsized breweries and are known for our IPAs. VT maple syrup is a coveted item here. We want none of your fake syrup here. None. Of. It. Ben ‘n Jerry’s was founded here and we also do a soft serve ice cream called a “Creamee” which is made with real milk which you can get in maple syrup flavor (or swirled maple and black raspberry!) We used to have a ton of dairies here but the larger ones have all retired, mostly smaller producers now, but it is a huge part of our history. We have lots of weird art along the highways and roads, just overall we’re pretty quirky. We also have a bunch of nudist colonies lmao.
