I think zukos character development is kinda missing in the live action. In the original he does bad things and hurts people, here they let other people do his part. Just to make him more likeable? Just like taking sokkas sexism away, it's not a bad thing as long as he grows out of it.

Hi, this is so exciting, my very first one of these question thingys.

Okay so I kinda agree with you. I do feel like Zukos anger has been kinda watered down, but he still does bad things and I honestly dont feel like his character changed that much . For example in the cartoon his attack on Aang set Kyoshi on fire and it didnt in the live action and I don’t feel like this has any repercussions on his character because I never felt like it was intentional to set the fire it was just a by product of Zuko trying to capture Aang, and I feel like if it had happened in the live action Zuko would have reacted the same way. I think Zuko never wanted to hurt people, but capturing the avatar was so important to him that if people got hurt on the way so be it, capturing Aang was worth it, but I don’t think in either version he would have hurt people if he could have avoided it.

I think thats what makes Zukos character development possible, he never wanted to cause any harm. I think it’s important that we see that what ever is going on with Zuko he truly cares about people. I think one of the key moments that shows this is when in “the storm” (cartoon) Zuko momentarily gives up on capturing Aang and prioritises his crews safety. I think another key moment was when Zuko attempted to save Zhao from koi-Aang, it seemed so poignant that even when he was the bad guy he would try and save his enemy.

I think it’s his desperation thats missing in the live action. The absolute drive to capture Aang and regain his honour. I think the reason he was willing to put other people in danger is because he valued capturing Aang over all else, at the end of the day, it was Zuko who was in the most danger every time, he was always the one to fight Aang head on. I think this is best evidenced when he swims through the seal holes to enter the northern water tribe. I just don’t feel like live action Zukos heart is truly in it in the same way. I think this is so important for Ozais and Zukos relationship, and without Zuko having this same desperation it seems less plausible that he would re join the fire nation at the end of season 2. We have already seen that the live action Zuko has fought Ozai at the agni kai, which makes me feel like he is allready further on his journey towards rebellion. Although to be fair his lack of desperation may be in part due to the fact that live action Ozai seems to have a slightly better relationship with Zuko, almost seeming proud of him for finding the avatar (although we also have no idea how he acted when he was around Zuko), but he does still burn Zukos face off so I think this is unlikely.

At the end of the day, I think both Zukos loyalty is to the fire nation, but I think in season 1 cartoon Zukos loyalty is to Ozai and live action Zukos loyalty is to his people.

But obviously this is all subjective and from the point of view of someone who has watched the cartoon many times and therefore my opinion is heavily influenced by this. I also feel like live action Zuko may be better than he really was in my brain because honestly he was the only character I liked. I am very curious how someone new to the series would view live action Zuko though.

for dave i think id have an even harder time explaining it, but my dave is rly heavily influenced by post-irony & ytp. whenever i write dave i just kinda follow a stream of consciousness that is dubious about shit and loves to laugh i guess? i rlly don't know how to describe it. i tend to reread canon dialogue particlarly from act3-6 for inspo, sometimes i'm straight up using my own brain with some kind of dave-filter

when i write them together i like 2 live in the beautiful world where they both agreed to be earnest with each other, probably my best example of that is "candid detail". i don't do that all the time bc i also like to write em with their guards up e.g. "bad mouther hole master", theres a lot of points in their relationship that have rly fun dynamics 2 me.

i guess i also do them kinda silly. ive been told my dk is quite silly. i like 2 imagine they know how to make each other laugh. they also learn a lot from each others perspectives on things, like insecurities or bad experiences or even just what they like / what art is to them, stuff like that. in my interp they do rly end up having a lot of things in common ideologically bc they're both at their cores very soft people.

it's all abt big long sentences with an undertone of quiet empathy. it can also be about aggressively bumping shoulders w their own egos too because that's fun

fundamentally though, i write them 2 be genuinely interested in what the other has to say. like, curious about each other. it gives u rly fun back & forth that isn't too mean-spirited & is more playful/genuine... i think it's rlly easy to write them totally discrediting each other's viewpoints which i do sometimes too (again, FUN !) but if u do it in the wrong context it just comes off as needlessly sardonic & harshes the vibe. i mention that bc i have a hard time balancing their egos & genuity myself sometimes

also very important to know when to have them run their mouths & when to have them sit their asses down & LISTEN. i tend to have them run their mouths a lot in scripts i havent finished/posted, just bc i have so much fun doing it, but it makes the dialogue so long-winded that i can't turn it into a comic... yeah definitely part of it is remembering they both know how to be succinct when they need/wanna be and aren't ALWAYS flapping their mouths. sometimes i realise a script is going in a direction that could be a whole other convo & that's when i tend 2 nip it in the bud

ANYWAYS, I split you ask into two sections: first, their favorite food ever if they can get their hands on it, the second what they like to eat on the road. And then a final unhinged rant at the bottom about the one thing about teenage boys/young men and their food that I'll never understand: Bacon.

Legend--I have a feeling that he likes sweets. Specifically, waffles with whipped cream and berries. They're a little burnt, but Ravio made them for him, so he'll pretend he doesn't notice (and grows to like them better that way). On the road, he'll go for coffee/tea (he's not picky) if one of the others make it, or nothing at all.

Hyrule--does he have a favorite breakfast food? Food isn't very stable where he comes from--Legend and Wild would spoil him so much in regard of expanding his palate. But I imagine that something like a fried mixture of beef/sausage, vegetables, and a starch (perhaps an even poorer version of an already poor person food Shepherd's Pie, perhaps? it could be a breakfast food) would be a sort of filling, tasty, and easy to procure/make/preserve food that he'd like. On that note, I would say something simple, easy to get and preserve, and hardy would be his go to breakfast on the road--maybe meat jerky.

Wild--Also a sweets person. Fruit cake, cinnamon rolls, frosted cupcakes, basically all the little delicacies he could get at a dumb party 100 years ago, he ain't picky, it's for breakfast and it's fueling a day long sugar high. On the road he, unlike the other Links, can be pretty creative with his breakfasts, and he likes his spice as well. So, I think he'd like Meaty rice balls.

Four--direct this question to someone else please. He has four voices in his head fighting to answer right now, and none of them agree. I surely dont know if he doesn't.

Time--Pancakes and farm-fresh scrambled eggs and toast with jam. Malon makes it for him. What can I say. On the road he is a habitual coffee drinker, he wouldn't be functioning in the mornings without it. But he'll also take a poached egg if he has the time (heh).

Warrior--unlike Time who is a habitual coffee drinker, he is a coffee connoisseur. He likes the breakfasts they serve at the castle--a lot of meats and fruits, expensive, and on top of it all, well plated. Not to say that he can't eat simply--he was in a war, mind you--just that he prefers not to. On the road, he strikes me as the kind that would drink those tasteless quick oats (y'know you just add water, shake and go?) and also be very vocal about much time (heh) it's saving him (being none). I don't know what the Hyrule equivalent of those are.

Twilight--our favorite country boy. I think he likes a true southern breakfast. Ham and pan-fried potatoes and eggs over-easy, with a side of cheesy grits and sausage biscuits and gravy like Uli used to make for him (I HC this man has a black hole of a stomach, out of all the Links). On the road he'll inhale a boiled egg or two (salted and peppered if he's feeling fancy) that Wild made for him. I also head canon that Twilight likes tea with an intensity. And not only sweet tea, but like, ALL of the teas. He gets obsessive. I literally have in my detail/subplot tracking documents for BDOR the following entry underneath chapter 8--Tea: "Twilight’s cure to Wild’s voice is tea. His cure to life’s woes is tea."

Wind--whatever his grandma is making, probably with seafood involved. I've had a crab-spinach-egg casserole for breakfast before, it was good, so I'll give him that. On the road, I can see him packing a lot of bread and some meat (dried fish if he can get it).

Sky--This guy honestly has me stumped. Do those on Skyloft eat Loftwing eggs, or are they considered taboo? They have a lot of pumpkins around--do they incorporate them into their meals?@needfantasticstories you know a lot of Skyward Sword lore, bequeath me your wisdom. Anyways on the road he's a meat and bread person like Wind. Practical.

Now, for my rant about young men and their food quirks:

Bacon. Bacon, as I have witnessed, drives the most reasonable of men insane.

I just a few things to say about this. I have younger brothers, and I born witness to many male sleepover parties. I--as the resident nasty fe-male XD--have been (forced) to cook for them in the mornings. Set a pile of bacon in front of them (or really any meat, but I have found that bacon has the strongest affect) and they turn into WOLVES. They start to crowd around and stare as soon as they begin to smell it (which hey, give me space in the kitchen, please!), snatch it up before the grease even cools, and then retreat into their separate corners of the living room/kitchen and scarf it down, all while avoiding eye contact and projecting just how much they don't care about the bacon they're eating (perhaps so one of the others don't take notice and try to steal it). There's an odd little ritual/rules to the thing, too: for example, it's frowned upon to take more than three or four pieces at a time, there has to be enough for everyone, obviously; but if you finish a second and third serving before some poor sod stumbles in and gets himself a piece--why that is acceptable, even encouraged. But at all times, you could feel them watching each other, judging whether each person had taken acceptable amounts. 6 at once, I have determined, is veritably considered too much, as I have watched an entire group of mid-late teenage boys chase another through the house and outside for this crime of greed. Another thing was the presence of literally any other edible food. If there was anything else--eggs, fruit, even something like a few slices of unbuttered toast or coffee or juice sitting out, this reaction was largely tempered--even if none of the boys took the other foods, they would take a meager one or two pieces of bacon and be satisfied, perhaps reassured that other food was present and their hope of a filling breakfast was not in vain. Most, at that point they would restrain themselves from eating anything (other than their bacon tax) and wait so that everyone could eat together. But the mad scramble that occurs when there is bacon and only bacon in the kitchen (even if other things are cooking, nearly done, and visible to them) is otherworldly.

I never saw it with anything else, not eggs, not fruit, not even sausage or any other breakfast food. And it must be noted that I was exempt from their little ritual of judgement--perhaps as the only woman, or perhaps as the cook, I was allowed to take as much bacon as I liked from the pile, once the initial wave had attacked and retreated with their bounty (and the strips of bacon had cooled enough that mortal human hands such as my own could pick them up). And while they behaved like beasts, I was always very politely thanked for making breakfast once it was over and the frenzy had abated.

Anyways, your ask got me thinking about Malon making a pile of bacon for the boys, activating the beforehand undiscovered "PANIC! BACON!" mode in their brains, and just being utterly confused as they turn into animals. Just the boys descend, and then a few shouts of "Thanks, Malon!" drift in on the wind as they scatter like racoons with treasure, leaving an empty plate spinning behind them.

Hiii since you said you were interested in what others think about the whole Sami/Bron/MITB situation.... I have thoughts and it's a bit much to write in the comments so, Here goes... (this isn't even all the thoughts BTW 😂

@thesmallworldofsamizayn I got to agree a bit there, with your statement of Bron being unstoppable and Sami being the underdog, as well as getting sick of the comments being made about Sami being the Champ. Usually I don't really give into or pay much attention to all the talk, and if I do, it only makes me want to fight harder, but I'll be honest; this time round, Sami doesn't NEED the belt...

He's good enough on his own and he's proven it time and time again. It was a nice icing on the cake type situation (having the belt), but, the point is that there is and was plenty of delicious cake already there! (if that makes any sense) So bottom line, he'll survive without it, he can survive without it. If anything, it'll probably light a bigger fire under him, reigniting that fiery passion of his. The one that keeps drawing us to him and into his world.

Honestly, this is going to sound so bad, but I won't be overly upset if/when Sami drops the belt (note I too am an avid Sami fan and I'd be a bit sad, but not devastated). To me (personally), before he won the IC championship, and even though he had more loses than wins, he was more intriguing to watch. Idk why, and may be it's just me atm, after that long drawn out (weeksss of) Alpha Academy saga - may be that's what's got me feeling this way fn...

A few weeks ago I would have said that they are building up to Chad winning it, but now that Bron and Sheamus are involved who knows the hands the title will eventually fall into. Also, it's going to be hard to get Sami to drop the belt this quick (even though it's been what? A couple of months now already?) when it clearly (you can SEE it) means so much to him... It'll be hard but they'll eventually have to do it. So may be MITB will be it.

Also got to agree a bit here with @shanie too, I would love to see Sami get involved in the BL saga and if there's anyone who believes in redemption, always seeing the good in people, fighting for the greater good, and what's good and right AND against all odds, it's Sami Zayn. He's got the innate need to rescue people out of toxic situations and to fix said situation. So he would definitely fit the narrative if they decide to insert him into it.

BUT the big issue is with the fans. Again. There's quite certainly going to be a LOT of hate if this happens. I'm already hearing rumblings of people unhappy with just the mere thought of it. Saying he's not family so why is he involving himself in it, as much as that's true, have they completely forgotten that he in fact was a THE 'honorary Uce'? The closest an 'outsider' has ever gotten to the family or being 'family'? Heck he almost became 'Sami Uso'.

So in the end people can and will make up their own minds and there nothing anyone can do about it. And also in the end each to their own I guess... (BTW people need to chill out and remember this is fiction NOT real life 😭)

hello! thank you very much for these detailed thoughts. youve actually articulated a lot of what i was feeling. first, the fact that a) i dont like seeing fans bitch about sami and b) i especially dont like it when they're kind of right. it is someone else's turn, and maybe yeah that person should have been chad. i was more than ready for it to be chad at catc personally. im not too mad that it's gone in a different direction cause it does actually look like they have other storyline ideas for chad now, but as far as sami's concerned, yeah the belt isn't doing anything more for him now than it has till this point. it's weird to think he hasn't held a title as a face since the nxt championship 10 years ago. but thinking back on that, and everything since, everything he's been so good at - yeah, im not sure that long term champion is the right look on him! he won it in 2014 and lost it devastatingly to kevin 2 months later, and i would not have wanted that to happen any other way.

thing is, i will be sad if sami loses to bron at mitb. especially if he loses clean, not unlike he did to kevin all those years ago, futilely continuing to kick out long after he should have quit until he's physically incapable of doing so. what's maybe harder to explain as a wrestling fan is that i want to be sad about sami zayn. i like those heavy emotions, i like feeling like my favourite character can't catch a break. that's the entire essence of the underdog appeal. further to that, this is kind of the state im most used to and therefore most comfortable in when it comes to characters im invested in. in the words of mitski, i bet on losing dogs. and sami winning was an incredible feeling and so deserved, but i really don't mind him losing! he's both more compelling overall and gets more interesting stories, and just inspires so much sympathy in that position. (look i also like seeing him in pain i'll say it. he clearly likes acting being in pain just as much so everyone's happy i think)

then there's the bloodline and yeah, i'd sit up to watch sami back with those guys especially roman. im apparently one of the few people who really doesn't want roman to come back as a face no matter how much the fans cheer him, but if he is going to have a face turn, it's got to involve sami god damn it. i was just talking with @milk-crater about this, how it makes more sense with sami being a bit more removed, because that makes him a better person to forgive roman, and to be his moral guide. also it's sami, if anyone in all pro wrestling would reach out a hand to a genuienly remorseful roman reigns it's him. all that and the two just have such great chemistry, and it was the baseline for everything that made the honorary uce arc so fantastic and beloved, and it'd be nice to come back to some of that. maybe show these smarks what they've forgotten about why sami is the absolute best again.

I definitely agree there's an odd tension between chanlix, I remember reading this rumor that someone had cheated on Felix around the time in which Chanlix stopped interacting with each other lol and mind went oh I'm connecting the DOTS. But I'm always surprised by people thinking misung are together because I really dont see how their dinamic is different from other kpop boyband duos, like there are so many, and misung beheavior is really not that different from I've seeb from other close friendships in other bands. I do think though that Minho is 100% queer, that man level of weird is not from the straight variety lol.

I just posted something that is not at all in response to you, lol. I am reading your message after, but my response is really that I kind of just believe them.

I’ve seen a good amount of ships and I think there’s fun to be had in shipping them, but I also feel like Jisung and Minho aren’t playing the longterm skinship game, because there are other members they could spread that affection out to. For example, Jisung and Felix love skinship and kissing, and I’d bet loads of money the two of them have had at least two drunk make out sessions, but I don’t think there’s anything romantic going on between them, because they don’t have any romantic vibes between them. Minsung though, seem to be very consistent in saying how they feel about each other, they don’t interact with the same level of palpable tension with other members as each other, and speaking of, the other members say their relationship is different as well. Which is why I also think Chan and Felix have a Something.

SKZ seem to be a group that adores affection and don’t hide that behind “Idol groups are known to do skinship.” They acknowledge it, but they also talk openly about how differently certain members treat other members. For example, I enjoy Hyunjin and Changbin’s dynamic and wouldn’t be shocked if they hooked up (not that we’d ever know, but hypothetically), but I don’t ship them in a serious way. I would even go so far as to say I think Changbin is genuinely attracted to Hyunjin, but who isn’t? Lol, he’s gorgeous. But for real, I don’t think their flirtations go beyond what is normal in SKZ but also idol friendships. In fact, I’d say they are the two best friends in the group who play at being a couple, and enjoy the pretend, but are genuinely just friends.

Chan and Felix, though, they just have a very awkwardly charged tension, lol. And they make a lot of their “We want to touch but can’t.” tension obvious because of how they react to each other. Add onto that how downbad Chan is when he talks about Felix, and how laser focused Felix gets when he’s emotional on stage and almost always only wants Chan… they just scream “There’s something going on here!” I don’t know anything about the cheating allegations, and currently can’t say I’d believe them. I don’t think Chan is perfect, but I can’t see him cheating on Felix. If anything, I’d say they likely weren’t together and Chan got with someone else, which might have pissed Felix off. Not to get too long winded, but I do think they love and want each other, but I also think they are in the stickiest of situations because of Chan’s position, and because his feelings have been obvious from day one. So maybe led to not so great discussions between them about what they’re feeling for each other, and it wouldn’t surprise me if it took them a long time to figure things out, which is why they have such an awkward yet obvious tension.

Minsung is different, at least in my opinion. They’re so easy to get, and again, consistent. They and the others say they go on dates, and they do. They and the others say the two of them are always together, and they are. The both of them constantly talk about how they flirt with one another and belong to one another, and Jisung has said he had thoughts of Minho when writing a love song. Minho has said Jisung is his boyfriend. Jisung said they will get married (which I’m not taking seriously serious, but it adds to the notion that they are comfortable and committed to the idea of being in each others lives for the rest of their lives).

Of course they could not be dating, that is always a possibility, but at the end of the day, I feel like all good romantic relationships have a root of friendship. Your partner doesn’t need to be your best friend, as it’s healthy to have close outside relationships with people, but I don’t think there’s anything that should prevent best friends from becoming romantic partners. So while Minsung absolutely do have lots of similarities to other pairs in the group, and there are other friendships in the idol sphere that are close like Minsung, for me, it doesn’t negate the possibility of Minho and Jisung being a romantic couple.

I think they are best friends who fell in love, and they don’t exactly hide it. They just have a lot of established ideals that keep them from have to do less. As in, idols are known for skinship and letting fans think there’s more going on, so they can get away with being super touchy because not many will think anything deeper. They work together, and idol fans don’t typically believe two people who spend tons of time together can or have ever fallen in love. And lastly, idol fans are more open to believing queerphobic rhetoric than not, meaning no matter what Minsung say or do, most fans are likelier to believe they’d never actually date because they don’t think any idols are actually queer.

So with all those ideals essentially stacked against them, forcing them into a platonic space… what’s stopping them from dating? For me, the answer is nothing.

i can think of two examples straight off my head of when you seemed biased. srry to bring it back up but ya the first time was when the porn proportioned terra discourse happened. you spoke for the anon and changed the meaning of what they said to “oh they just meant kea should be more varied” when its clear thats not what ppl were upset about. the second example was when you also made it seem like anons who had imo very legit reasons to be upset about the way you handled the “speculation” were just being crazy out of nowhere. like you said they were like “you should die in a fire if u think this is ok” when no one said that, they were just rightfully disgusted and concerned.

ik this is a drama blog but the truth does matter too even when it means conceding that someone u disagree with was not bad in a situation or also that someone u agree with was bad.

i will say that these 2 situations are the ones that have exhausted me the most when it comes to topics on here, which does further my point about how i can be bitter when topics get more aggressive. im not sure if i should take this as an issue with myself, or whether to show that being nasty to myself and others in my inbox just helps nobody. lets go with both!

starting with example 1, i felt like i made it pretty clear that i had my own interpretation of the comment, i think i even said as much within my reply. i will admit though i dont really have any sort of fondness for kea and their previous sexualization of terra adopts did leave a bad taste in my mouth regarding them. regardless, i think the reason i gave og anon so much slack is because of the (in my opinion) unbalanced response to it in the first reply. i think that there should be some more disconnect when it comes to critiquing a person ideas as opposed to the person themselves; what i mean by that is you can say “that comment you made or that idea you hold is misogynistic” without making aggressive assumptions as the person replying did. i think that maybe it makes it my fault for not being clearer that assumptions like that arent welcome here, or maybe its more my fault for having a very specific expectation of how people should interact. either way

yeah, i was a.. “pick me” as a child. it doesn’t surprise me.. with parents that wanted me a certain way, i kind of felt like i needed to be perfect for everyone around me. now im a people pleaser.. how shocking. i absolutely love nature.. though i absolutely abhor mosquitoes. excuse my language.. i fucking hate them. for some reason, they just love my blood.. so in the summer, i always get like, 40 mosquito bites every time i go outside. the wonders of the midwest… also including the millions of ticks always lurking around.. but either way, i love nature. to think that all of the things around us were created from one little thing.. one chain reaction led to our world.. its absolutely marvelous. the smells, the sights, the feelings.. everything is beautifully unique in its own way. i love just going outside and feeling sun on my skin, hearing birds chirping, feeling the slight breeze and hearing it push past the leaves on the trees.. i love it so much. i.. would love to hike with you, if you’d give me the chance. if i could have any pet, i would want a bernese, a chow chow or a squirrel.. OR A CAT! my family doesn’t like cats, so we can’t have one.. :(

i played clarinet for a very long time but recently quit, and i played piano then quit, but im trying to learn again.. playing the viola is extremely difficult, thats incredible! i have trouble trusting people, but i usually show my imperfections quickly after becoming obsessed with someone.. i wish i could keep it in easier, but i cant. ive known pain and fear and sorrow for a long time.. i cant imagine a moment without it. its much easier to pretend to be something, than to be yourself.. but yes, i really love to sing. its my life, its my safe space. i wouldn’t be sane without it.. obviously i dont think i have much talent, but some may agree with you. either way.. the compliment feels nice, even if i dont fully believe it.

Ah! I don’t mind, I enjoy listening to people’s assumptions of me. Gives me a good idea of what people really think of me. I do mostly use my heart though, it got to me where I am. A fairly enjoyable life but very busy. I think I trust it more than my brain, of course I’ll use my brain if needed.

oh wow right to the gut... i don't think he believes in gods in any way. he explicitly doesn't believe in the prophecy, and while he respects furina, he doesn't treat her as a god (or even a celebrity) like the rest of fontaine does before the trial. i think his childhood trauma really dashed any beliefs he could have been taught/couldve had. and then furina as god walking out of his trial and him interpreting it as her finding his trial "boring" didn't help matters either.

for where he is now, i think he's like. well the gods exist, but they're not going to help me in any way, so i should help myself and others like me. he worries about the people of meropide and on the surface, and the main quest shows us that he'd rather take things in his own hands than relying on the archon.

i do think he trusts in neuvi more than he trusts in any gods and he likely figured out neuvi wasnt just some immortal a long time ago etx, but he's still staunchly independent and his deep respect for neuvi doesn't translate to like. religious faith as we know it in teyvat. especially because neuvi is someone he can actually communicate with and talk to compared to how distant archons are portrayed.

i agree that he's torn between the two extremes of wanting attention and hating when people look at him ("you dare gaze upon me" etc).

for me, he was definitely the one who picked out his fatui and wanderer outfits (like they do say and show that he was the one who chose to start wearing a big hat after his villain origin story), which shows that he's very particular about his outfits and prefers to dress in familiar clothes aka inazuman inspired fashion. (compare dottore, who is from sumeru, but is wearing something nobody in sumeru is shown wearing.)

for the fatui outfit, this is really interesting because his big hat + sort of veil references uchikatsugi, which was worn by noble women to protect from the elements and also to protect their anonymity/purity.

so in a sense, it's like. he wants to show off his status, while also hiding himself from others. so for me, he goes out of his way to pick out beautiful, high-quality clothes for himself, and then remembers "oh fuck people are going to look at me because i'll stand out" so he tries to obscure his face in any way.

as wanderer, he (originally) doesn't have that trauma/complex, so the uchikatsugi influence is more like. thin banners behind his head, versus the wider covering in his fatui outfit

what are your thoughts on mishanks protectiveness/possessiveness/jealousy. we’ve seen a little of mihawk’s brand of protectiveness/possessiveness (Murder Mode™️ or Vulnerability Freakout™️ or the two for one combo) in your writing but not much of shanks’, which I guess makes sense since 1) shanks is well aware that Mihawk is capable of looking after himself and 2) much like shanks thinks that Mihawk doesn’t want to be asked to stay, he also thinks that Mihawk does not want to be protected. which is correct, tbh, but one thing we absolutely know about shanks from canon is that he is incredibly protective. AND ALSO I feel like mihawk has complicated feelings about it actually. like he would resent the implication he can’t take care of himself but at the same time there is something about not always having to!!

All this kind of bleeds into the possessiveness/jealousy stuff also because there’s something so interesting and fundamentally conflicting about being in love with someone who loves easily when you do not, and vice versa. Mihawk is not a man who feels insecure, generally, he’s too good for that and he knows who he is and what he means to shanks, but at the same time when it’s so hard for him to form connections and shanks does it so easily….Mihawk is one of many (though of course deeply unique still) for shanks. Shanks will always be very very singular for Mihawk. And tbh I feel like shanks kind of likes that and is worried by it at the same time.

Oh yeah i've had some Thoughts about Shanks and possessive/protectiveness. I feel like during all of the early r2r canon he is choking his own protectiveness down, because he thinks Mihawk will react poorly to it. He's not totally wrong, but like you said-- he's not totally right, either.

In the post-breakup era, he's going to be much more overt (eventually). And I think a Mihawk who has walked away from Shanks once will be much more receptive to the protectiveness, because its a sign that he is actually special to Shanks (he knows he is, but also like u said-- stop being so smart have i mentioned-- Shanks is a man easily loved, and well loved. Mihawk is not. Mihawk has so few people, and Shanks has so many. Who's to say Shanks couldn't replace him?)

Anyway that's a long winded way to say YEAH I AGREE AND DONT WORRY WE ARE GOING THERE. EVENTUALLY. I am aiming for a playful possessive Shanks, sometime soon ish. hopefully. editing willing

ik this is relatively irrelevant but i am really curious on how youre going to write stumpytail! in canon, he was abused by brokenstar during his apprenticeship (of which broken was the mentor) and i always thought he stayed in shadowclan after brokenstar's exile and was loyal to them, dying from the sickness or maybe other thing like that? but that seemed to be retconned in tigerclaw's fury (or maybe it just was always like that n i just didnt notice but. i just rlly Do Not Remember him being mentioned as one tigerstar's or even brokenstar's followers in tpb at all. im even almost sure the Only scene he had in it was actually him taking part on the shadow/wind raid in thunderclan camp when they were keeping brokentail as a prisoner so?? huh???) and then he was sent to cat hell alongside his. actual. murderer. dad, clawface, and the cat who abused him when he was a teenager with no real explation as to why

The whole of Shadow and RIver are made up of traumatized and guilt ridden cats tbh (reason #1 that i am mad they didnt get more pov in arc 2)

Though I do think that River and Shadow have a pretty high amount of conservative, xenophobic cats just from their history of leaning more that way politically. Which is also why they are the most vulnerable to being taken over be evil leaders heh... But thats also why so many cats are just forced to blindly follow these evil dudes, they have no choice, bec the majority already agree with these terrible ideals

ok, first round of the HC levels. im sorry this kinda sucks and isn't super exciting. was hoping id have more energy after work since i wfh today but then i did some more tidying up in my room and my now my head hurts and im exhausted but i have a second one of these in my inbox that i can answer this weekend that will hopefully be more exciting

LVL 1:

I feel like this could fit into level 3 in the sense that i think fandom as a whole all agrees that lee is Chinese coded, but that's also so obvious in the series and so intentional with all his Bruce Lee parallels that I think it can fit into lvl 1. and i think extrapolating on that is that he's an orphan since like canonically his folks were never so much as mentioned.

obviously my personal hc for Lee's parents is that they came directly from another country as per The Ballad, so in my hc his folks never actually lived in Konoha and were not in fact killed because of the kyuubi's attack on Konoha when Naruto was born which i think the farther lee's origins are expanded on the farther away from level 1 it gets so i'll just leave it at that

LVL 2:

Otsutsuki never happened. Like a large chunk of the war I just straight up omit, including the stupid ass aliens that were never foreshadowed in the series and Or*chimaru's stupid abusive, predatory ass is still dead too.

lots to be said about Kishimoto's writing, but i will never believe he ever intended the shit with the otsukuki or the cookie cutter epilogue we got. kishimoto might not be an astounding writer and he def lost the plot in a big way but i do think he deserves more credit than a whole ass plot twist that makes zero sense and just dragged the series on. like it was very clear that them aliens was just shoved in there to set up for Boruto... so when you read my shit, just remember, fuck them aliens (and fuck or*chimaru too)

LVL 3:

I'd say that like everything about my worldbuilding around Suna and Wind country could fall into this category because it's absolutely not rooted in canon material, and like to a very small degree my whole 'there's more than one languages across these various countries' thing has now become a thing other people do (yes, lookin at you kel) which like again very small scale but i guess could be like a fanon thing that people might start to run with more.

im not doin a great job of going into detail on this one but it's def like a if you know you know thing cause tryna get into the nitty gritty with all my worldbuilding would take me all night XD

LVL 4:

i be makin up so much gotdamn shit... does an OC child count? Like could I say Ruri? since like technically 700 IS canon and i just said fuck dem kids... partly cause fuck dem kids but specifically fuck boruto (the series) and all it stands for and does to the original series, and also partly cause like i dont want ppl comin to read my fics with pre-existing assumptions based in Boruto canon. like if you fuck wit boruto that's yo business but it's not for me and ill never acknowledge it in my fics (i kno i did like... once a long long time ago but that was when 700 had dropped and i was trying) or anywhere else cause its shit and its always gone be shit.

so like yeah i guess Temari and Shikamaru's daughter is my level four headcanon. and the other kids they'll have that haven't become relevant to anything ive writen (yet). and also Kankuros various and sundry bastards some of which ill have reasons to write and some of which i probably never will cause he's got a decent-ish handful of bastards out there in my headcanon.

honestly online is easier than irl but for both the mindset shift ive been trying to make for a while (the past year esp) is to just... not giving a fuck ab what other ppl think of what i say. i mean as long as im not forcing myself on anyone then if somebody doesnt like what i have to say, then they can just... not interact with me? and ofc if somebody explicitly told me to stop doing something or fuck off i will respect them 100%

but ya the way i see it is (1) if i do or say something that somebody doesn't like they can either just tell me to fuck off or we can talk it out but also on top of that (2) im not gonna worry ab somebody being upset by me acting in a way that is authentically me bc why the fuck would i want to be around someone who only accepts me watered down/with some persona on

so ya that is a very long winded way of saying i just say fuck it and if someone is uncomfortable with me they can tell me to stop or to fuck off or whatever and ive lost nothing bc if they dont like me being me then they werent someone i want to interact with in the first place :3

incidentally this actually saves you and everyone around you a lot of time and energy too bc being just totally unapologetic and authentic means you will nearly instantly filter out anyone who shouldnt be in your life and you will be left with all the people who you absolutely 100% totally vibe with and i have to say, from experience, no matter how scary it is you will be SO much happier bc it is just so incredible to be surrounded with exclusively people you are on the same wavelength with (not that u have to agree on everything but yk). no more wasting time getting to know somebody only to months later find out you dont get along, this way you will find out VERY quickly

HELL YEAH.. i honestly am not a huge fan of the wci arc. i really disliked it the first time i read it but i think there r a lot of things that contributed to that. i couldn't remember a lot of the story from before, i started it in the anime and then switched over to manga at some point so it was a bit of a jarring difference, i have complicated feelings about sanji, and i was really sleep deprived when i was reading it. it was super difficult to get through cuz it just felt like everything dragged on and on.. so when i was rereading i was really dreading coming back to that arc and having to slog through it again. but actually it wasn't that bad. its still nowhere near being a favorite for me, but it does have a lot of good moments. anyways i think u will have a much better time than me and im looking forward to seeing ur reactions!! the anime notoriously does NOT know what colors things are. my favorite guy law has grey eyes in the anime and theyre gold in the manga.. which is devastating!? cuz gold is way more interesting and fitting and... yeah. i will forever be upset abt that. if they're gonna whiten all the characters to such a crazy level why cant they change the eye colors that are objectively WRONG (following manga canon)

i am so .. i miss robins early design .. they kept her blue eyes (which again.. are objectively wrong according to manga canon) but they just had to make her like. the palest member of the straw hats. i love her having blue eyes so im not complaining that they didnt fix it but its like ... why did u fix one thing and not the other... i find that very frustrating. i wish they had just kept both her skin color and her eyes LOL. also cowgirl robin was so cool 😢

those are my absolute favorites but other ones i like are arlong park, syrup village, punk hazard, sabaody/post war/return to sabaody, marineford (this would be another absolute favorite if not for the fact its so painful), whatever arc zoro joined in, drum island, skypeia, and.. controversially i do like fishman island despite also finding it a bit boring

i also rly enjoyed the reverie (it counts as a separate arc on the wiki) this one is apparently directly after wci.. i can never remember when it takes place chronologically. theres not really any action but i dont even care... i dont read for action

people dont like post timeskip one piece as much for some reason? its confusing to me bc almost all my favorite arcs are post timeskip.. im loving the focus shifting to the whole world.. and i love reading about huge world events. and i love theorizing about things. its all very fun

i like wci but mostly for the sanji arc. i dont care much for the setting (although the alice in wonderland insp is cool!) and i actually love pudding but the fact she’s apparently 16 puts a bad taste in my mouth every time she’s on screen. it doesnt feel like its dragging on yet but as much as i do wanna continue i keep not having the motivation bc i know i still have quite a bit to go through vjbjfdkn. im glad u enjoyed it more ur second time tho!! and i defintely see the post-timeskip haters points sometimes. there’s less time spent with the characters just. getting to interact and chill- partially bc the anime doesnt really do filler now but also partially bc now the crew is so large that oda never writes them all in one place. theyre always splitting up. and also the obvious things like robin getting sidelines and her design change, zoro is less silly, overall there’s less lightheartedness (although at times i can appreciate that). but the thing that bothers me most is it feels like oda got more brave with the off color jokes and sexualization and such. it was there pre timeskip (esp starting around thriller bark) but post timeskip its just like. sexualization and perv jokes are turned up to 200%. and yea im bitter bc sanji got worse in that aspect (although i actually prefer his post timeskip design! i like his stupid little goatee and his new suits/outfits are very nice! and his character development has obviously. gotten some spotlight) but damn if they couldnt give that to some of the other crew members too! though i digress. and ur right- the arcs and story HAVE improved and been super epic!

hmm..i think my favorite arcs would have to be [as of where i am currently] water 7/enies lobby, impel down, and dressrosa. whole cake will probably be up there when i finish it just bc of it being the My Guy Arc.

Saw your comment on my Vox analysis and Yep! I'd love to say my bit on this!

In short, I agree mosly with what you've put here. Even of some of the details dont fit with how I perceived the character before it does all make perfect sense.

One key point I'd like to mention is you bringing up Vox being super insecure. Not only do I think this would be a major point in what drives him away from Alastor (trying to change too much/ affecting Alastor) but I think it would have gotten significantly worse after the 'breakup'. Losing that respected connection must have been hard on him and sort of contributes to why I think Val and Vel get away with their shit.

Your statements fit in well into another post I have scheduled about how there's a sweet spot of time between "experienced enough to survive the exterminations" and "dumb luck and not having been in hell for long (so there's no bad reputation to get you used as Angel bait)". The old timers don't respect the younger ones because they probably haven't had to struggle as much, fight their way to the top. The Vees thing is literally mind control/ coercion so it makes sense that the older overlords are pissy that they had to make proper deals for their souls but because of how tech addicted the new gen is the Vees had an easy in.

This applies tenfold for Alastor and Vox, since Alastor would have to work hard to build a reputation, not only in death but in life too. Having Vox come in and attempt to wow the masses with lots of flashing lights and pretty pictures probably pissed him off, with the tipping point being, as you say, when Vox tried to influence or 'upgrade' Alastor.

The bit about picking sides is very interesting too. Vox would surely be known for falsifying things or embellishing the truth since that's what gets viewers. Alastor must've built up a reputation of being at least somewhat more trustworthy as an information source, so even if Vox only pissed Al off a little Al could 100% get away with telling whatever side of the story he wanted, shown by how quickly he captivates Vox's viewers after being away for 7 YEARS. That was a long winded way of saying that Vox has a messed up reputation because of how much more they trust Alastor rather then just his own actions.

Them being a well known alliance is kind of a given for me, it seems obvious that what they had must've been A, meaningful and somewhat long term. And B, public or semi-public.

Alastor being the one to approach Vox seems like it's not only the most reasonable, but also most heart wrenching. It's entirely possible that Al wanted Vox's soul or a 'sidekick' type thing to, as you said, do his paperwork and boost his ego then after having a partnership decided he'd rather have a 'friend', then Vox pissed him off so much he can't even be bothered to off him. There has to be something stopping Alastor from just killing Vox and I dont think it's power levels or reputation. Alastor could not give less of a fuck about killing overlords for the fun of it, so having Al be the original instigator of their partnership adds layers.

The final(ish) thing I'd like to add here is that its confirmed that the 'final straw' was Vox asking Al to join his team. If they already had an alliance why was this a problem?

Vox wanted to branch out and have others (Val and Vel) involved. He was so focused on upgrading and bettering he didn't realise how negative they could be for his and Alastors reputation, so when he asked Al to join them after entering another partnership behind his back, Al completely dropped him. (Vox, punished for his hubris)

Of course it's entirely possible it happens very differently to this in the show but I cant see any Canon confirmed events that actively go against what you've said, and subtext/ voicing of the characters seems to support the main idea even if I've gone haywire with the specifics.

Well since you asked~: I think that they not only had an alliance but it was actually ALASTOR that formed it. I know a lot of people think Vox would be the one to approach Al, I don’t think that would work. Vox would either be a nobody or a newcomer at the time they would meet. Al is arrogant and likes to be in control of things. He wouldn’t hear out Vox. BUT other way around makes sense. Alastor could have used the reasoning of “I’m bored and wanna see if alliances are entertaining” or (my theory) “This guy’s power can boost my own and vice versa…plus, I don’t want to do all the boring Overlord paperwork.” Because if the whole “Alastor became an Overlord due to technicality” thing is still canon, then he wouldn’t have signed up for anything but his own goals. Vox was probably atleast kinda interested in Alastor and also saw the potential of teaming. They worked kinda well up until their individual flaws started to bother each other. And no, I don’t think the main reason was: Old vs New. I think it was the conflicts underneath that issue that led to them becoming enemies. Actual conflicts: 1) Alastor is a mysterious loner who likes to keep things close to chest and Vox literally has cameras everywhere and wants to be on top of everything going on. Including with what his business partners are doing. 2) Alastor is arrogant and hates change, especially changing things for others (“People don’t like my radio shows? Don’t care! I do it for myself and those that do like it”) and Vox constantly needing attention and validation due to his own insecurity (“I’m losing viewers?! Quick, what trending right now? Or how can I improve this to be better?”). And finally 3) They both have tempers and think they’re usually in the right.

This also makes me think that it had to be Vox’s fault (Kinda) for the ‘breakup’. Alastor has been shown to be too stubborn to admit when he’s wrong and too tolerant of people doing things he shouldn’t tolerate just because they either get on his good side or are useful to him (*cough* Mimzy *cough*). So he probably would tolerate (to a degree) Vox’s constant need for attention and validation and constant push for fame and change. But, Al also has strict lines in the sand he won’t stand and when they’re crossed he snaps VERY aggressively (Husk touching a secretive matter when he is already pissed off in that hallway scene). So I can easily see Vox ‘improving’ (completely modernizing it or just putting things in there without permission) Alastor’s radio station as being enough to make Al destroy their alliance for good and make Vox look really bad. And this would also explain how the other Overlords see the Vees. Vox got a seat on their table by being buddy buddy with one of the most feared and THE most unpredictable Overlord. But if their partnership failing was seen as Alastor deeming the newcomer as a failure then the other Overlords would see Vox and the other Vees in a similar negative way (“Smug wannabes, who don’t heed when they’ve been warned!” -Carmilla). Because despite Zestiel questioning Alastor and Carmilla’s snide remark, they still treat Alastor (Guy who disappeared for 7 YEARS and hasn’t been doing much after killing other OVERLORDS they probably knew for a longer time) with a lot of respect. Zestiel still gives him proper greetings and more respectfully talks to him versus how he talks to Velvette. And Carmilla, still does welcome him back. He literally sits near the oldest out of all of them and the leader of the meeting. VS Carmilla acting like the Vees were either expected not to show or weren’t even invited. Zestiel rudely interrupting Vel while she’s talking, to point out how she’s wrong without letting her finish. And again, Vel seems to assume the end of the table is for her, as if the Vees are usually seated at the very last spot available. And the Vees have been around for those 7 years gaining more power. Almost like the old-timers once gave the newcomers a chance at the table but they ruined it for themselves. (*cough* one of the most powerful and vicious overlords in a group took one of you under his wing and you somehow ended up destroying that powerful alliance and replacing it with a loud pimp and a rude brat. *cough*)

SO…That my Ted-Talk. I basically do think Al and Vox were a famously good alliance at one point amongst the Overlords but when their flaws got on each other’s nerves and they ‘broke up’ (professionally/platonically), even the other Overlords simply around the two started to pick sides. I.E: Old-timers seeing the arrogance and foolishness of the young blood vs The Vees seeing a bunch of pompous fossils refusing to change for the better.

P.S. This makes me REALLY curious about Miss Zeezi since she obviously is from a more modern era (70s or 90s). Did she somehow get on the Vees bad side and that made the old-timers like her or something? Or did one of the Old guys do what Al and Vox did but make it work this time?

Literally, he's still as a rock and completely taken by surprise.

He... can't say he'd never wanted children. He's pretty traditional and, since he has this beautiful relationship with you, he assumed it might happen sometime in the future.

But oops guess it will have to happen in the close future, since you're already pregnant.

After staring at you with widened eyes for a while, he speaks up: "...is... is it true?" You hold his hands on yours with a smile on your face, nodding. "Yes, Diluc. We're going to be parents." Hearing your words, he starts to tear up as he hugs you, his touch almost hesitant, as if you were so fragile he could break you if he wasn't careful. "...thank you." He'd whisper between silent tears, hiding his face from your sight.

Very supportive and very protective!

You will have the most comfortable of pregnancies. He will make sure you don't need to move a single muscle to get anything you want.

If the two of you aren't married or engaged yet, he's going to propose to you very soon, keep that in mind ><

He starts reading every book he can find on pregnancies and babies so that he knows what to do to help you when you give birth and how to take care of his child once they're born ><

You have to convince him that yes, you can go and eat in the dining room and you don't need to eat everything in your room or stay in bed all day and yes, you can still do most things and no, he doesn't have to worry so much.

But yeah, in later stages of your pregnancy he gets more overprotective because he doesn't want anything to hurt you or your baby :(

He couldn't be calm enough while you gave birth and had to wait outside of the room, which only made him more nervous </3

But when he finally held your little baby on his arms for the first time, he broke down crying.

Diluc is a very busy man, but he still does his best to be there for you and his son as much as possible!

He's also not very sure as to how he should interact with him...

But he does know he LOVES playing with him as soon as he starts to understand how to play with his toys.

But... there are not so cute parts about having a kid, after all.

At times, he worries whether or not he'll be able to be there enough for him.

He wonders if he can be a good father, given how awkward he is with his emotions.

What if when Felix grows up he starts hating him for being absent? He wouldn't be able to stand it.

You always reassure him as you both put the baby to sleep on his crib.

All Diluc wants is for his son to have a happy childhood and a loving family, but worries he won't be good enough of a father.

However, when Felix's first word is "'iluc!" as he stretches out his tiny arms towards him, he thinks that maybe, just maybe, he can do this right.

Scaramouche

He thought you were joking, so he laughed.

When you didn't laugh along with him and was met with your blank face, he understood you were serious.

He never even thought he'd be with anyone in a relationship before you came along, let alone have a child with anyone... So he's obviously very shocked and confused as to how to proceed.

After an awkward moment of staring at each other, he cleared his throat and crossed his arms, looking at you with an equally blank face. "So? What do you want me to do about it?" "H-huh?" "In the sense of- what do you want to do? Keep it or not." You huffed, and when he heard your determinated answer, he sighed and gave your head some soft pats. "Alright, alright, whatever you want, I guess."

Okay listen here- it's not like doesn't care but it isn't like he cares so much either...

This man would do anything for you, really, and that's what happens.

He does anything and everything for you, because he's worried about you and not necessarily about the baby you're carrying.

It's not like he hates children- because you can't hate anything you don't perceive as equal or superior to you and a baby ceirtainly isn't either for him-

It's more like he doesn't know what to do with them because he's never been around children enough to understand them.

He's overall very indifferent towards the child ngl.

Then he sees you cradling your baby -a girl- in your arms and his mind just... goes blank. Huh, so that's what a human looks like right after being born.

Your little daughter looks more like him than she looks like you, sorry. But he can clearly see on her face some factions that will look like yours as she grows up.

But...

"Now what?"

He'll help you look after her however he can, since he doesn't want you to be too tired because he never knows when he'll have to leave for weeks or even months without notice.

He's not entirely cold or indifferent towards her, even if sometimes he might resent her a bit for taking away some of your attention.

But like when you were choosing a name for her, he gave a few suggestions and in the end you choose one of the names he thought of!

Her name is Hikari, name meaning "light"!

Due to the nature of his job, he doesn't want to be seen around either of you at the moment in public. It would only put a target on your backs.

And it takes a long, long while for him to warm up to her.

It disheartens you a little, but when you see him looking down at Hikari's sleeping form on the crib, softly poking her cheek with a strangely child-like curiosity on his eyes, you feel at ease.

And he thinks that he can probably handle this parenting thing better than he ever expected. Maybe it's not that bad, after all.

Ceirtainly, he thinks, as he holds her in his arms one day after she spoke her first word to him, this parenting thing is not really that bad.

(Her first word was "papa!")

Be ready, because once he gets attached to your daughter he won't stop spoiling her!

Kazuha

"Are you sure, love?" "Yes, I'm sure. We're having a child!" A smile painted itself on his face as he leaned in to kiss your forehead. "I hope I can be a good father for them."

So the Kaedehara family is getting a new member, huh!

Not that there's much left to his name, especially now that he's a fugitive... but he's excited nonetheless!

Although he's not one to settle down for long, he will make an effort for both you and the child, since it's not good for someone who's pregnant to wander around.

He's very protective, but not in an overbearing way! He simply wants you to take it easy and relax, he can take care of everything else on his own!

That being said, he's not rich like Diluc or Scaramouche, so he's also going to work harder than ever to get everything you or the baby need in advance so that neither of you have to stress out!

He's the one who takes it better out of everyone here, he's not extremely worried or outright indifferent, he's simply worried enough, excited and happy!

He already knew you were the one he wanted to spend the rest of his life with, so the idea of having a child with you didn't scare him or intimidate him in the slightest!

He's still a bit worried, though.

He is a wanted fugitive in his homeland, after all...

He can only do so much and wish for the situation in Inazuma to change soon, so that he can take both you and his child to see the places he loved to spend his time at when he was a child.

But for now, he's happy enough simply holding his child on his arms, sitting next to you in your small shared home.

While Kazuha enjoys travelling more than anything in this world, he's reticent to leave you and your daughter alone or even bring you along with him. So he stays around for as long as you need it.

He will talk a lot to her all the time, so don't be surprised when she picks up very complicated, flowery words from a young age!

He wants her to grow up to be free as the wind and be able to do whatever she wants without fear, so he wants to do his best to be a good father for her!

Xiao

You can practically see the panic on his face when you tell him the news.

It's the most scared you've ever seen him be, and you've been there to help him through his karmic debt.

So yeah, he takes it the worst out of everyone.

"I'm not mad." He manages to tell you before disappearing to somewhere else in a panicked haze, he needs to sort out his emotions quickly before he can properly talk to you about it. The last thing he saw before he disappeared was your eyes, glinting with sadness. And that only made him feel worse if that was even possible.

It takes him the whole day to come to terms with his feelings on your pregnancy and finally face you again.

He's really, really afraid of hurting you and your child. Not to mention he fears he might've passed some kind of curse from his karma to either of you through the pregnancy :(

Like he said, he isn't mad. He's just scared.

He... he literally never, never thought he would get to be a father.

Family was a foreign concept to him, as were a lot of other things you've slowly helped him understand throughout your time together, so knowing he can have one of his own now... makes him happy, and scared, at the same ime.

He's worse than Diluc when it comes to protecting you and worrying about you.

He won't let you do anything alone, even if he doesn't want to be near you because he doesn't want the karma to harm you or your child in such a vulnerable moment of your lives.

Okay so that aside-

How do people care for babies?

What is he exactly supposed to do?

And- do half-adepti babies need any sort of special treatment in comparison to human babies?

He has no idea on what to do if it doesn't involve a physical fight with a tangible foe, so he goes asking for advice to everyone he knows that could have knowledge on that field.

Verr Goldet and Ganyu are a great help for him. Xiao listens with attention to everything they have to say and asks everything he doesn't understand.

Ganyu tells him about her own experience growing up as half-human so that he can understand what raising a half-human, half-illuminated beast baby might entail.

He also goes to Zhongli for advice and he gets more of the same advice he's already heard, along with many, many reassurances that sound like everything you already tell him every day.

He's very worried, but as the months go by and your child's birth comes closer, he can't help but feel a little excited about it.

Everyone who knows him is happy to see him openly happy for a change on those small moments when he gets excited about his new family with you.

When your child is born, Xiao doesn't want to hold him. It took too much willpower to stay as close as he was right now, standing next to your bed as you held your baby in your arms.

He was so adorable, so small, so fragile, so pure- Xiao was afraid of touching him and breaking or tainting him--

He was already crying, he'd started crying the moment he saw you holding your son for the first time.

He feels so... strange. He's crying, but this isn't a painful, or sad feeling. He feels... happy, but scared, but...

The feeling starts to make some sense to him when he finally convinces himself that it's okay for him to hold the little boy in his arms, when he stares with awe at his face.

The baby looks a lot like the both of you. Arguably, more like him, since he has the same hair and the same bright eyes, but in his face all he can see is you.

And he cries more.

You both named him Liàng, name meaning brilliant!

Xiao does his best to try and get used to parenting, and it gets hard at times.

But he tries, and that's all that matters. He tries to be a good father, and is always there to protect both you and your son from anything trying to harm you.

Even though he was so scared at first, you know he loves the new family you've formed together.

Especially when you catch him trying to hold a conversation with your son, sitting down on the bed next to him as he toys with a soft teddy bear, the two of them surrounded by pillows.

The soft look and smile he wears while he does so tells you that everything is going to be alright.

The three of you are going to be alright, and Xiao wants to make sure of it.

His son will never have to live what he lived or see what he saw. He will make sure of that, no matter what.

Oooh this is a good question (also I'm very glad we're all in love with the sugar sub quartet). This ended up being so long and so off topic because I just have SO much to say about this so I hope you guys are also into this AU :))

Firstly, I definitely agree that Lando might be too possessive for it. I think out of all of them, Lando is the one who occasionally would have problems with things like that.

It's not because he doesnt love the other three, he absolutely does and he is well aware that the relationship wouldn't be nearly as good as it is now if the other three weren't there. He's had a relationship where he was your only sub and sugar baby and while he liked it, he can't deny that it is SO much better once the other three joined.

So he never actually wants the other three to leave. But still, he was the first one and he just... he doesnt want you to forget that? He doesnt want some authority over the other three, but he does want to feel secure in the fact that he was your first sub and will always be your first sub.

Which is why sometimes he wants scenes alone. He loves scenes with the others. But out of everyone, he's the one that needs scenes alone the most. They dont even have to be long scenes.

I also think Lando probably comes with you to events more than the others? He always liked coming with you to events before the others joined too, liked getting all dolled up and showing off what a good sub he is and joking around with the other subs at the event.

And to be honest... the other three don't want to.

Alex hisses at the thought of having to speak to so many people. He is the house husband and will only entertain others if they come over to the house (which by the way, he does that incredibly well).

Charles is your sensitive sweet subby baby and he would rather claw out his eyes than bat his eyes and smile at rich old men who see him as meat.

And George... George is just too scared and too anxious for that. What if he messes up? He's representing you. So what if he does something wrong? Personally, I like the version of this AU where George is the son of a wealthy businessman and so he's been attending those events all his life and he's always hated them. He loves being your sub precisely because he doesnt have to be that person he had to be when living with his family. So no. No events for George.

All of that is really a long winded way of saying that I think lando's possessiveness settles down when it gets formalised that lando gets his own scenes when he needs them and that he's your 'public' sub in the sense that he goes to events with you. Once he knows those things, he's okay.

(Also you absolutely get selfies of the other three all cuddled up whenever you and lando go to an event)

As for Charles...

We said that Charles joins when his previous sugar daddy basically just dumps him for not being good enough (and maybe a big part of that was because Charles wants to be a subby little one and hates being paraded around which is exactly what his previous sugar daddy wanted), so I think that Charles would require a lot of attention when he first joins?

Just because he needs to accept and understand that he's allowed to be needy here and that you wont expect him to do something that he isnt comfortable with.

It really helps that the other three all loved Charles before he even joined (maybe you were always hearing about their sad friend who had a terribe sugar daddy and how they all wish he would leave and join them).

So Charles does require some extra love when he joins, but the other three want him to get extra care? Because they've watched him be sad for long and they love him so much and they just want him to experience what it feels like to actually be looked after.

Charles is definitely the most needy in terms of touch though? He wants wants to be next to you, to be curled up in your lap, to hide away from the word.

But having said that, he slowly starts to come out of shell and become more and more comfortable with expressing himself? Cause he's actually a very loud, silly little thing? He loves making stupid jokes and laughing and being tickled and can't make it 5 minutes into a movie without asking questions and absolutely adores playing games.

He requires more attention during scenes and also requires the most aftercare by far, but he slowly becomes less and less clingy as he comes out of his shell and begins to thrive just existing with the other three?
