The author... truly did spend a shitload of time and effort on it, including on detailed research into the Chernobyl disaster and how reactors work, but that is not actually unusual for fanfic. That literally has nothing to do with whether it's fanfic or not. And. It's about Tinkerbell. And they posted it with the fandom tag "Disney Fairies" and the character tag "Tinkerbell". Wtf did they expect?? So- the usual neglected batsis that as a youngster craved the attention of her fam, but after being brushed away, after being ignored, after being straight up forgotten about, says fuck it, y'all aren't worth my love, I'll use the Wayne money to do as I please.

So she does. She uses the monthly allowance that is on auto pay straight to her card to do arts, to paint her heart away, to draw and play video games, to fund and pay off anything from homeless shelters to medical bills, trying to make a dent into the Wayne fortune both in selfish and non-selfish ways. She's basically a petty tween.

But then she wakes up with powers. She thinks she's a meta- batman doesn't like metas, that's what she thinks, she doesn't know Bruce doesn't want metas in Gotham due to Gotham being ground zero for meta trafficking. Boom, panic.

I think she has powers like flying, super strength, and like immediate healing if not "iron skin" like Superman. So she wakes because she hits the ceiling due to flying while asleep. She panics, falls, maybe breaks something, nobody comes to check on her-

Now, she always has toyed with the idea of leaving, but this? THIS? Breaking point, she packs necessities and the Wayne card and says bye-bye Gotham, good morning... Chicago? NYC? Idk, whichever place Omni man lives in ig.

The batfam, of course, doesn't notice. In this universe, I think even Alfred won't have been paying that much attention to batsis, man's too busy. So what if one day he does his rounds, cleaning, opens a door he hasn't been in a while.

The room is dusty. Dusty beyond hell, and one singular photo of batsis at like a kindergarten graduation makes him drop everything, including his heart. Old man goes feral, absolutely crazy, because where the fuck is this kid, this little baby, that he went and picked up because Bruce couldn't be bothered.

The batfam goes crazy too. In the mean time-

Batsis is, surprisingly, living her best life. Initially, she planned on getting an under the table job- clean a bar, babysit, be the errand girl of some shady drag dealer, etc. But Nolan sees her while she tries to get her powers under control, shakily flying, accidentally blowing to pieces a tree as she leans against it.

Omni-man as he lurks in the shadows: Debbie would love a daughter. I would love a daughter.

Batsis would call it kidnapping, Nolan calls it adopting without extra steps. Debbie takes one look at this shaken kid and immediately goes mama mode while reprimanding Nolan about taking a kid off the streets and not warning her so she could prepare better.

Mark? It takes about 2 hours before he realizes that they can be training buddies and that they have similar taste in some things. That's his baby sister. No arguments, just baby sis. Batsis? Much like a hungry, cold cat, she accepts her fate. It does feel nice to finally have some attention on her.

So she trains with Nolan and Mark, gets great, becomes a reluctant superhero, deliberately ignores Nolan's rants about her becoming such a great warrior, his little girl on the way of becoming the greatest conquror. Gothamite batsis just shrugs it off as just a Thursday.

Back with the batfam, pure chaos. Everyone is in shambles. How could they forget about a whole kid? Their siblings, Bruce's youngest daughter. Guilt is slowly turning into madness, and madness is slowly turning into a need to prove they can be better, that they weren't deliberately overlooking an innocent child because of personal pettiness, they were just distracted but now they'll right their wrongs.

I just read an article (linked at the bottom of the post) and went looking for this old post I made sometime last year. I wish I’d gone through the tags last year, and I might have seen a tag like this and brought attention to the issue much sooner. I don’t think I’m by any means the best voice on issues of antisemitism, but I think it’s my responsibility to acknowledge my own susceptibility to antisemitic online trends, and likewise the susceptibility of many of my followers who read this:

While mainstream participation in the trend “Gnomes vs. Knights” was—for many—a fantasy LARP & cosplay meme, it extends from an earlier TikTok trend, “Gnome Hunting,” which either became, or even began as, an antisemitic dogwhistle, in some cases, and absolutely overt Nazi content in others (source) (more reading on it)

TikTok misinformation researcher, Abbie Richards (and contributing authors, credited in the article), writes in the article linked at the bottom of this post, “Although this content originally emphasised a desire to ‘find the gnomes’, portrayed as benevolent creatures and symbols of pre-modern Europe, the current gnome hunting trend shows that gnomes have since been reconfigured as adversarial actors – specifically Jewish people.”

Numerous sounds by Nazi creators were used in the ‘Gnome Hunting’ trend. The problem with TikTok is that videos are fed to users by an extremely focused algorithm, so people who aren’t seeking or knowingly engaging with extremist content (but who still are) often only see either ‘mainstream’ evolutions of these trends—such as the Knight/Gnome battle—and/or dogwhistles they don’t recognize.

When I used TikTok, I largely interacted with the cosplay, SCA, and LARP community, which is how I was personally ‘exposed’ to this trend. (more on the use of TikTok to spread extremist content from other platforms, “sanitised for the purpose of ban evasion and appealing to a more mainstream audience.”)

This is often a problem on TikTok, where trending audios are often posted by random users, unlinked to the original artist, so once they’re trending at-large, many people don’t know the sound’s artist/source. This is not even close to the first time a sound has been linked to bigoted creators and/or trends, only to become popular among unwitting, wide-scale audiences.

Worse, videos by creators explaining the issues with trending sounds and the memes which accompany them are often buried, receive little views, or—even with many views—don’t appear on nearly as many users’ feeds as the videos promoting these audios & accompanying memes.

I’m not saying any of this to excuse my own participation—by liking and sharing the videos—but to highlight how & why these dogwhistles are so pervasive. I liked to consider myself knowledgeable on such dogwhistles, like double lightning bolts, the number ‘14,’ and portrayals of goblins in fantasy media, but here I failed to recognize one anyway, along with hundreds of thousands of other users.

The responsibility is also on TikTok itself, to identify and moderate extremist messaging on its platform, as highlighted in the conclusion of the aforementioned article:

Can someone help choose which fic I write?

I have an AO3 account where I write Dreamsmp fanfictions (I don’t support the toxic content creators) and I currently have two fic ideas that I can’t choose between. So these are the options for anyone who wants to read this little rant about each of them. (These are not prompts. These are my ideas. You can take inspiration but please don’t write these yourself)

option 1: Tommyinnit-centric. Revolves around SBI. Set in an original fantasy world. There’s two kingdoms. Tommy is from the darker kingdom, full of mythological monsters. The rest of SBI is from the neighboring kingdom, full of more friendly enchantment. You know how it goes. Found family fics. If you asked me to summarize it to one sentence, it would essentially be “Tommy commits illegal border crossing and accidentally gets adopted” Some other small details: 1. Phil is a baker, single father of Wilbur. Kristin is the queen, single mother of Techno. Wilbur and Techno are best friends and there’s a sub plot of them trying to get their parents together. 2. Tommy has an unidentified chronic illness that causes fatigue, weakness, and sometimes lightheadedness. 3. Niki is a witch. We love to see it. 4. There’s occasional references to the song Harpy Hare.

Option 2. Tommyinnit centric. Revolves around bedrock bros. Has anyone watched that Barbie movie where she gets trapped inside of a video game? Because it’s like that but graphic. Since it’s a pvp game in a randomized setting (Sort of like the hunger games). Hear me out please- Wilbur (Tommy’s brother) plays that game a lot, with his alleged online friend Techno. Tommy just so happened to steal the controller when this mass phenomenon happens that causes a bunch of players to be well.. trapped in the game. Unhinged, I know. But Tommy finds Techno in the game and they have to survive until further notice. Some extra details: 1. By the start of the game, everyone is kind of working together. But eventually the idea comes up that “what if the last man standing gets let out?” and that’s when other players are threats too. 2. Tommy is 13. Techno is 17. Techno will also be written with some level of fear because before this, he is NOT an intimidating blood god as seen in most fics. He was literally just some guy who plays video games. So he’s a little more held together than Tommy but I’m trying to make it realistic. 3. All players are stuck in the bodies of their avatars. Which are made to look like their dsmp selves. So Tommy looks a lot like c!Wilbur for half of the fic, since he had stolen the control from Wilbur. (Changes later). 4. There’s details to remind you it’s a video game. Techno complains of the constant music playing, but Tommy can’t hear it because before this, Wilbur had that setting muted. And whenever Tommy gets close to a raised platform, he accidentally jumps onto it, because Wilbur had auto jump on. They eventually figure out that they can change the settings somehow

I'm still seeing a lot of angry takes in the tags about how excessive Watcher's current costs are and how all fans really want, apparently, is "just shane and ryan sitting in a basement" back again. While I do think Watcher is probably spending over budget and that's a real issue, a lot of the takes I'm seeing show a fundamental misunderstanding of how video production works and where costs actually lie. So a few quick things that I just keep seeing that are bothering me:

It was never just Shane and Ryan in a basement. BFU did a great job selling that conceit and making sure you never saw anyone beyond them and maybe TJ, but they absolutely had other crew members with them on ghost hunts and they didn't do all the work on BFU themselves. This Q&A from Season 2 lists 36 people on staff for Buzzfeed Unsolved. It's fair to make arguments that Watcher may or may not need 25 people, but those arguments should not be coming from a place of "before it was just Shane and Ryan and nobody else."

If you don't know how many people are needed to make a professional video from a TV/film standpoint, you will not have a reasonable grasp of why Watcher wants to keep 25 people on staff. Sure, some YouTubers get by with a ring light and a contracted editor. The Watcher team have stated repeatedly that they do not want to work as just YouTubers and see themselves more as a production studio—so why do people keep referencing the YouTube model to understand their business? This is like asking the local shake shop why it doesn't function like the kids' lemonade stand down the block. The item category is similar but they're not trying for the same products or process.

The "gold dusted food" is not the big budget sink you think it is. On most TV shows I've worked on it's normal to partner with businesses that are shown onscreen and work out a deal where the price of the product (in this case the gold food) is reduced or eliminated in exchange for the free publicity. Watcher very likely made a deal with every restaurant it worked with to make the Korea trip affordable for the company. The real budget spends are on things you're probably not seeing but that still matter: camera and lighting equipment is expensive, insurance for that equipment is expensive, business overhead and paying your staff are expensive. So again—it's fine to critique Watcher for the streaming plan and the perceived budgetary issues, but go into this knowing the costs might not be coming from the things you see onscreen.

My source is that I work in TV and film and actually have a clue on how the industry functions. Again, 36 people worked on Unsolved (and those were the people mention in Season 2—who knows how big the team blew up past that in later seasons). Entertainment work is real work, and demands decent equipment, competent staff, and the same types of business and budget problems you'd find in any other business (overhead, staffing, etc.). Feel free to critique Watcher's business model, but first try to understand where that model is coming from and what goals it's attempting to serve.

This is something I'm very hesitant to talk about but it's constantly on my mind, it has been for years now and I feel the need to let it out somewhere.

We live in a very, very deeply mysogynist world. Misogyny is something every woman (and trans/NB people) regardless of race, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, wealth, power or privilege experiences almost on a daily basis. Some are harmed by it far more than others but no one is completely un-harmed. It is horrifying and cruel but also normalised, and there are so so many people out there who are looking for any and every excuse to justify the misogyny.

Some of them stick to the old tried and true wokeness ruining stuff narrative, but others have started adopting something far more gross. It's the 'women can be abusers too' narrative.

Let me be clear yes of course I know that women can indeed be the abusers. What I'm talking about here is the weaponization of this phrase. Men use this narrative to hide their own abuse and use DARVO (Deny, Attack, Reverse Victim and Offender) to make their victims look like the bad guy.

We (and I'm not excluding myself from this group) so desperately want to believe that if a woman has enough wealth and power and privilege she could become immune to the harm misogyny causes, because if people like taylor swift and Blake Lively are not immune to it then what chance do rest of us stand?

So we are sometimes a little too eager to believe that women are indeed lying for fame and fortune. Actually feminist make lots of genuine efforts to be as considerate and as inclusive of men as possible. We desperately want to believe that any man we like is a good feminist man. And the bar is so low for that. So many men will say and do a fraction of what most women do and still be praised for being feminist. I can't help but think that 'women can be abusers too' often gets used as a replacement for 'she's a gold digger' or 'she's making false allegations to ruin his life'.

There is an assumption that it's just natural for men to be a little misogynist at the start so we are far more accepting of their change and growth. But God forbid a woman comes across as mean in an interview. Also while we are on the topic how many times do we hear men being mean in interviews? Is it just me or the word mean is used for women far more than it is used for men?

White feminism is another term I've seen being used a lot in the USA and western world in general. Most of the times I've seen this phrase pop up is when a rich white woman is talking about various forms of misogyny she has faced. I'm well aware that white feminism is indeed a real harmful thing but even this term is used as a weapon to dismiss misogyny rich white woman faces. It always sounds like what you been through is not a big deal, misogyny is not a big deal, there are more serious/ real issues in the world so stop complaining about this non issue. Someone has it worse so you have no right to complain.

I've personally seen this argument I've seen used against Taylor Swift a lot. I'm not American or white or straight and yet I find myself relating to her experience so often. So it always baffles me because how is her talking about her personal experiences alienating to women of colour? The reality is all women face misogyny in all sorts of ways and pointing to a woman's privilege to dismiss the misogyny she faced is just one of many many tactics. I guarantee you that your favourite non white, non straight, non american female celebrity or you know literally any random women that you know, (and most likely you yourself), also has their experiences dismissed only the wording of it was a little different.

My point is saying all of this is please don't fall for it. Even if the woman is the richest, whitest, meanest, most privileged bitch, take everything negative said about her with a grain of salt and if she is talking about abuse or sexual assault put your feelings aside and believe her.

one video has completely turned my view of night mind around. I'm not a huge fan of night mind, I'm a fan of horror and mystery. but I'm not smart, so i watch explanation videos so I'm sure I understood 100% of the plot. Night Mind did a great job of this- mostly- with Marble Hornets, EverymanHYBRID, and things like this house has ppl in it, so I've started looking into his videos for more. Things like Chainmail Chasers, POSTcontent, Rapid Eyes, they were all fine videos from him, treated fair and explained well- praise and criticism where it was due. But it's videos like his "case file" or whatever he calls it on the series "JustAcquaintances" that pisses me off. When he started laughing at them in part 2 I couldn't keep watching. It's rude, it's pointless, it's mockery. No explanation or defense at the end of the video can make up for that. JustAcquaintances is what most arg/found footage fans want to be. A fun homemade series with friends, something made with passion and genuine interest- not professional and trained. Marble Hornets is good found footage because it's professional, they knew what they were doing and planned every step months or years ahead. If I'm not wrong, some members of Marble Hornets were in school working on film/acting. Either way, it's professional. JustAcquaintances is an example of well preformed fanwork in the best way possible. Their acting is amazing, a bunch of stupid guys looking for trouble end up in deep shit with the paranormal and a cult. The police, real or fake, time and time again leave them in either deeper shit or the same as before. Now people are dying, being kidnapped, stalking, beating, torturing our protagonist. It's good. It's a good series. It's what I want every found footage fan to create, i want a dozen million fans to go out with their ideas and do this. Because I don't expect every series to be another EverymanHYBRID. I don't want another Marble Hornets. I want raw passion of creativity woven from horrific inspiration. And I've seen the Slenderverse/yt horror community. They are critics, expecting the best, expecting all of the creators effort into these series'. But these are free. They are on Youtube, somewhere that's very famous for not giving creative- esp horror related- projects the attention and monetization they deserve. These are projects filmed by humans for the sake of letting their dark little project out of their heads and onto your screen. They deserve praise, they deserve your attention, they deserve your patience, and they deserve your criticism NICELY. THEY DON'T GET PAID ENOUGH BY THESE VIDEOS FOR YOUR SPONSERED, MONITETIZED, WELL RECEAVED VIDEO TO LAUGH AT THEM. THEY DESERVE TO BE PRAISED FOR THAT SCEEN REALLY, IT LOOKS AND SOUNDS LIKE HE'S REALLY BEING BEATEN BY A BAT, THEY AREN'T HITTING HIM IN THE HEAD OR SPINE, THEY AREN'T HITTING ALL TO HARD, THEY'RE BEATING HIM FOR THE SAKE OF BEATING HIM. Not for money, for you- a supposed fan of found footage- to enjoy his act. He's willing to roll and scream in public, in the dirt, for you to laugh at him. It seems unfair, to do all this and expect nothing in return. JustAcquaintances is a good series, it's not hollywood, it's not professional, but it's exactly the passion I want to see every artist put into their work. It's what I want from anybody that's been inspired by horror or found footage, it's art and I wouldn't ever want them to change it. I'd want them to learn from it. Take what they've created and keep creating- just for the sake of creation. Criticism is necessary for art to prosper, but criticism isn't an hour and a half of copy and pasted footage occasionally interrupted by laughter or high expectations.
