I know I promised sheep but I just can’t stop thinking about this show.

So I reviewed Kiff in 2023 for One Shot. I thought it was good and hoped to follow it. Sadly by the year’s end I still only saw one episode. Chibiverse had Kiff host for a bit but she still didn’t grab me. Then I saw Kiff’s Animal Kingdom’s Shorts Spectacular. And that got me into watching the show. While it did have a bunch of shorts, they surrounded them with scenes to put them all into context. It got me to see Kiff and Barry more, Candle as well, and more importantly Principal Secretary. The joke about him loving burritos sold me on watching it.

But I didn’t immediately watch it. Like a great chance to do so was when I was building some sets for Brick Off Reviews, but I saw X-Men 98 instead. But then I got to watch some Kiff episodes and I enjoyed them. Like I said in the One Shot review, it reminded me of Spongebob in a good way. She’s eager, a goody two shoes who loves to work. But while Spongebob is an adult who acts like a kid, Kiff is actually a kid. So while Spongebob can deal with more adult things at times, Kiff doesn’t. I would say more down to earth despite having a lot of wacky moments as well.

I honestly love the designs of a lot of characters and that in turn got me interested in a bunch. Helen being the only human-like character on the show yet she’s vain and willing to trick kids into doing stuff for her or to go shopping while they’re trapped in a computer. Principal Secretary have his fun moments here and there. And then there’s Miss Deer Teacher who is voiced by the same person who voiced Pearl from Steven Universe. I really like her as she had an episode about her taking Kiff’s advice on dating (that she stole from a soap opera) and deciding that she would rather be single for now.

The other kids are okay, with Candle being a stand out. So much so that next week will be discussing her. But the older characters I think are better. We get to see Barry’s older brother and sister with Harry in one episode wanting to prove he’s mature and Terri having a lot more screen time helping out Kiff and Barry at times. And honestly seeing how they babysit is fun. Kiff’s parents are also pretty fun. You would think it’s your typical “smart wife, stupid husband” kind of deal but it is not really.

Beryl may be the one who brings in the bread but she can get caught up in silly things too. Like an episode where they follow a butt dial and despite finding out the truth still wants to prove she heard a threat. And while Martin is forgetful, he can be just as strict as Beryl and does have a job where he presents ideas to people. He also is pretty sneaky himself, tricking Kiff to make a music video to get her to do something. There are no real antagonists on the show, this is a pure 100% slice of life and honestly, I think that is my favorite genre of media. Sure, lore is fun but sometimes you just want to watch something simple to take your mind off of things.

So next week I’ll be talking about Candle Fox and the following two weeks I’ll be reviewing a few episodes of the show.
