-I feel like you and Boothill would be childhood lovers yk? Like you two were close friends and ended up catching feelings (I would too) always hanging around each other and getting into trouble l together.

-because to me he grew up in a small town with a big family (I think of like those towns in cowboy movies 😭)

-especially in highschool, but not for long. I’d think Boothill dropped out during freshman year(?) to help with his dads but you continued your studies.

-when confronted about it he scoffed and said ‘don’t need no fancy algebra or biology.’ He’d say.

-he’d see you at school (during lunch) and you two would usually hang out after school. Or during festivals or parties.

-scenario-

You two would always sneak away to the lake when it would get boring, giggling and laughing along the way. This time it was during a town festival, everyone in town went so of course no one would notice if two highschools went missing.

So off you two went giggling as you stumbled behind him holding his hand (in a platonic way ofc). “Boothill wait up!” You’d giggle as you slid down the hill. “Hurry or the sheriff will get us!” He’d shout as he helped you up, and the two of you began to splash water on each other. Up until night and his dads caught him with you again

-things like that would often happen, anytime one was missing they’d always assume the other would tag along

-your families of course always shipped you two. And knew eventually you’d date (spoilers you do)

- he’d confess to you on a random summer afternoon. While you two sat on his bed in his room

— you two sat on his bed looking around nervously and awkwardly. It was never like this, Boothill would usually say something but he didn’t, he’s open his mouth but nothing came out. His mouth felt dry, unable to confess. But he mustered up the courage.

‘hey.. I, uh” he began before sighing “I really.. really REALLY like you” he finished with a red face as he looked you in the eyes. As you’d giggle nervously and soon turned into a good laugh. “I really like you too Boothill” you said softly kissing his cheek. As he nearly fainted and tackled you into a hug. ‘Finally’ he’d think to himself

- now that you two are dating nothing much has changed. Other than kisses and leaving the door open when you two hang out (his dads are concerned about him doing funny stuff to you)

-he knew how to play guitar they taught him in school, but he learned it on his own and would often serenade to you.

-so you’d pack up everything and moved in to the small Cabin. It was small a two small rooms and bathrooms with a big enough kitchen. Also including a farm (of fucking course). Housing his horse, two cows, and a chick coop. A barn dog and cat :3

-you lived comfortably and happily, you’d stay at home and he’s venture off to help others or sell your farm goods.

-he couldn’t propose, he barely had any savings left after buying your couch. So it often got postponed, you didn’t mind (your parents did)

-it was a winter night. Boothill was god knows where and you worked in the kitchen making a simple stew. As your pregnant house cat meowed for a piece of beef, you were scolding the cat as Boothill entered the home with a small bundle of blankets in his arms as he closed the door. “Your home.. what’s that?” You’d asked before he walked over showing you the small girl.

“WHOS KID DID YOU KIDNAP” you shouted, startling the little who began to fuss “you idiot I found her..!” He hissed “we don’t have anything for a baby boothill, you know that” you said sighing “I know.. but I couldn’t leave her out there! That’s how my dads found me ya know, aren’t you glad they didn’t leave me to die?” He asked huffing “..sometimes” you shrugged.

As he sat in the shade holding her small guitar he’d made for her, as she sat in the middle and giggled at the kittens playing around her. She’d grown, about 8 months and beginning to walk.

“Da” she said pointing to a certain kitten “yup that’s a kitty” he chuckled watching her gently touch the fluffy ball of fur and giggled. Eventually waddling up to him and falling into his lap as she snuggled him and fell asleep. The sight tugging at your heart strings.

I don’t know how much familiarity you have with competitive splatoon teams, but I think it’s funny how Hasa’s argument with Maya is reflective of issues that come up for irl teams.

If you do have experience with comp then this is probably nothing new to you, but it’s pretty typical for a team to have 5 members, and some even have 8 or more. This works out really well since everyone has real life obligations, so there will usually be someone to fill in when a member can’t show up. This does create a problem though when more than 4 people show up for practice, since someone will usually have to sit out.

With your moomers being, yknow, moomers, I imagine they can dedicate a lot more time to ink sports than most human people, so I bet having more than 4 people on a team is probably less common. The (arguably) best team in NA, who have a lot more time dedicated to the game than most players, are a 4 person team, so I think the logic tracks.

Idk what my point is but I just think it’s funny how the state of competitive ink sports is a bit different between real life and splatoon OC.

I do pay attention to the competitive side of the game but don't interact with it (I don't think my casual play will ever be at that level anyway). I mostly take notes for reference for ex. When I come up with struggles for my OCs I usually check these people's experiences and see if they check out, like do they happen? (They do, but sometimes it's hard to believe yourself when you're just making shit up 90% of the time). Sometimes I have people in mind to check for base my Ocs play style on haha (Not gonna drop names, it'd be too embarrassing)

I think there are more similarities the more competitive a player gets tho. My OCs are still far from that world, I feel, but they're not susceptible to the troubles it takes haha

So. Side Order, huh?

I've been chewing on my thoughts over this for a good few days now. Want to spit them out somewhere. Vague-ish spoilers ahead.

I want to preface this with saying that I love Splatoon, I've been playing it since 1, really dropped off near the end of 2. Nintendo made Octo Expansion for me, they released it on my birthday and I love it so fucking much.

Side Order is fun, but lacking criminally in content.

You can argue Roguelites are like this in general, its the core princible to replay them over and over again and as someone who enjoys Roguelites, I agree!

However, a key thing that good roguelites do is continously give you a reason to keep playing- whether that be addictive gameplay or, usually, good story and lacing that in with difficulty that becomes the players goal to lessen- It rewards the player for being curious, experimental and above all else persistant.

I am fully aware that difficulty, due to Splatoon's target audience, in something like a roguelite was never going to be an easy thing to balance let alone pull off but having the main plot resolve itself once you hit the top of the tower was, in my opinion, the first of its blunders.

I feel as if the Splatoon developers know how much the lore and worldbuilding of these games matter to players. Side Order was advertised in very similar veins to Octo Expansion. The trailers had mystery and intrigue with clear connections to the well recieved and loved Octo Expansion to the point of having the same protagonist among other simularities.

They were clearly teasing this to be a successor of SOME capacity to Octo Expansion. And even as I went into this expecting it to be nothing like OE in terms of it's personal weight, I wasn't expecting something so short.

Classically, in roguelites that focus on story, you would gain story beats the more you replay. And techincally you gain this with the keys gathered from each fully cleared palette. But usually your story rewards in roguelites come from clearing or attempting runs and rewards:

With Side Order's story being resolved the MOMENT you step onto floor 30 with no real context unless you've intentionally avoided the top or have genuinely been slowed by its difficult (which I assume is what the devs intended) makes it's climax feel fast paced and lackluster- undeserved, even.

And, yes, I am fully aware that when you climb the tower agani after the credits role, you begin gain more lore about whats going on. But with the actual, main threat neutralized in every possible way it feels as if this lore should've been offered to us much sooner and much more spread out for a better pay off.

It's story feels like its being told out of order and, in my personal opinion, the themes and actual telling methods of Side Order we're a largely missed opportunity to tell something a bit more indepth. Climbing a tower that gives you essentially nothing until you reach floor 30 (which in my experience takes about 35-40 minutes) only to recieve about two scentences of lore is incredibly tiring and feels dissastifying when the main plot is already over.

It's lack of variation in level design, tasks and chips doesn't help with the climb each time if you're looking for the lore or just to 100% either. And you can argue this is a roguelite problem, but Splatoon's scenario's for a tower climb are pitifully small and you will start to seem repeat almost immediatly on your second or third run.

I also feel like it relies far too heavily on the player knowing and caring about Octo Expansion. I'm not saying that I think it was a bad idea to have most of what's going on in Side Order happening because of Octo Expansion's events. Hell, I was happy when they were very blatently showing this early on.

But it does very little with its ties to Octo Expansion, making Side Order feel like its constantly struggling to be its own thing away from the original DLC.

I think I can almost see what they wanted to go for here, and its frustrating, it felt close to something at least telling a decent story.

Every single little beat I've gotten has helped me understand more and more what they were going for, but since the main conflict is already resolved I find it hard to be excited and more frustrated that I wasn't given these during my initial playthrough.

I feel as though the roguelite formula was an interesting idea that they polished the best of their ability and to make work both for casual and experience players- but I think thats where the problem comes in.

With Side Order being the same price as Octo Expansion and offering very little in terms of replayability and most especially for me, story, the whole thing ends up feeling like a muddled mess that would've worked better had the roguelite aspect perhaps been dropped in general for a general tower climb.

Missed opportunies feel like they decorate Side Order in a way that leaves me fairly disappointed.

I think, overall, Side Order is a fun time that can be enjoyed but the way it was implimented into the gameplay formula was largely a mistake, especially coupled with the marketing of this being something more indepth with its story when it's not, and I can absolutely understand why I'm seeing a lot of disappointment for it.

also i know they talk inklish so idk if there a spanish or birtish version of it but idc!!! im going to ignore that ok so for agent four:

was 15 when marie made him agent 4, then he got hit with my transgender beam and changed his name to Four

sees Marie as a mother to him, and even if Marie thought that four was kinda weird at the start she warmed up to him

didn't talk a lot to marie af the start either, kinda just. looked at her, but as time went by he started to get more and more comfortable and started to get very talkative

met with the other agents at octo canyon-Tentakeel Outpost after octo expansion, so never got to see three without the scar on their face

the only one of the agents who finished school, three dropped out and eight couldn't go anymore after going to the surface

even if he acts really silly and goofy he’s not stupid, especially good at math!

Side Order Observations about Eight

Just a sort of nonspecific collection of thoughts about Eight (and some of Acht) in Side Order.

So, for starters, I feel that a lot of people are not fully taking advantage of the angst-fuel given to us here. A lot of people write it as though Eight is Suffering throughout the majority of this adventure, but that's not entirely accurate, I feel, to how Eight is characterized.

Going off of Eight's memcakes from Octo Expansion, Eight is someone who finds a lot of comfort in feeling powerful. She cites the usual casual play of turf war as something desirable, she finds comfort in using a charger. If anything, I feel that one of the reasons Eight was chosen by Marina to test this software was because of her affinity for combat- Marina assumes that the tower would even be too easy for her.

That being said, Eight surely felt a lot more anxious in particular about the present dangers early in the run- in particular, terrified of something bad happening to Marina. I sort of see Marina as a sort of maternal figure to Eight- I'd always pictured Marina and Pearl just sort of taking Eight home with them, I'm sure their mansion is big enough, and the fact that they take Eight along with them on the world tour kind of supports this idea. Probably the worst thing to threaten Eight with is threatening to hurt Marina. Or Pearl, of course, but especially Marina, given her nature.

I can imagine, of course, that Order is also an upsettingly familiar threat, but it likely wasn't as upsetting (until the Greyscaling) as seeing Marina in actual danger was.

But the piece of the story that I feel most people aren't acknowledging is the fact that Eight's palette- her soul- is so blatantly different, in function and in appearance, than everyone else's. That it calls back memories of the deepsea metro. Can you imagine what she must feel that says about her? How much more difficult her soul is to work with than anyone else's, even Octavio's.

There's a lot to work with, I feel, with Eight's palette. Feelings of inadequacy. Eight struggling a lot more with her palette than anyone else's; the fear that she might never be able to complete it? The trauma of being brought back mentally to deepsea metro. The whole locker situation there.

Worse yet, what about when she does complete it? Sure, one can assume Eight did get her memories back and she just doesn't say anything because she's Eight, and there's plenty to work with there- But what if it just doesn't do anything? Feeling guilt that it's her fault, because of her fucked up soul- and either way, not wanting to tell Marina this, because you've all worked so hard for this, and after everything, Eight just wants Marina to relax and be happy, but she can't deny the frustration of not knowing. Or the fear. Why doesn't this work for her? Why is she broken?

Or to tie the previous theory of Eight being a clone of Acht into this, why does Eight's palette unlock notes from Acht? Eight already struggles to know who she is- is she Acht? Somehow? Why doesn't she have her own memories? What does Acht know? What if she were to ask Acht, but they didn't know either?

Or to turn things around to Acht's perspective, imagine the fact that your palette is unaccounted for, you find Eight's, and Eight's starts unlocking your memories? All of the fuzzy spots in your memory start to be concerning. They can't help but compare themselves to Eight, what a disappointment to end up being chained onto you of all people when she's such an incredible person. Maybe you're the reason their soul is broken, somehow.

Also, I didn't mention this in my other post- I've headcanoned for some time that Eight deeply prefers being called Eight, and not 'Agent 8'; discomfort in being referred to as one in a series of numbers, discomfort with the association with the squidbeak splatoon, and so forth- it means the world to me that that's somehow canonical. It was an unreal moment to discover that. It makes me very happy that Eight properly uses Eight as her name.

So I'm currently in the middle of another losing streak in Splatoon 3-- this is gonna sound weird and "whiny gamer"-esque, but I'm pretty convinced that there are occasionally times where the game just decides that I'm not allowed to win. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ No matter what mode I play in, I'm consistently teamed up with players who spend the whole match either repeatedly running into the enemies' guns or just cowering around our spawn point, slowly watching themselves lose. Yes, even in X-Rank...I'm used to it; at times like this I just frantically recruit friends and wait for The Curse to end. >_<

Why recruit friends, you ask? Because while The Curse is active, that's the only time the matchmaking system will have mercy on me: Basically, I have to prove I deserve to be teamed with people who DO know how to play, by bringing at least one in with me.

Usually, this means that for a brief period, I get to play some fun normal matches where I actually stand a chance at winning...until last night, where something very interesting happened. ^^

I joined a team of two for some Anarchy Battles, thinking it'd be a great opportunity to finally start to win back all the points I'd been losing. And we were a pretty good team...but suddenly, our enemies were INSANELY GOOD.

Apparently, it seems I unlocked a new level of The Curse, where if I do get some skilled allies to play with, the matchmaking system now has to really really make sure I can't win by pitting me against pro-level players. Y'know, Dualie users who move exclusively with dodge rolls; Blaster users who never miss shots, people who are already on your side of the map harassing you in the first 10 seconds of the game. Those kinds of players. ^^;;;

It was...fun, in a darkly hilarious way. ^^ Like, it was still frustrating that the game was doing this to me, but the good kind of frustrating where you're ready for a really tough challenge. That's the cool thing about having allies who know how to play-- even when you're clearly outmatched, you can still try your best and make attempts to turn the tables, knowing your teammates will support you and actually react when you give them an opening.

Plus, the really freaky Splatoon players have one crucial weakness, something I learned to exploit long ago: they're not prepared to fail. ^^ Like, psychologically, they just can't bounce back from a missed shot or a surprise attack like normal players can-- I assume hundreds of hours spent mowing down innocent 3rd graders has conditioned them to expect that they should always be winning and succeeding, and that their enemies should not be capable of fighting back.

So if you can figure out how to trap them, ambush them, or even just NOT get killed by them in 0.5 seconds, they start going into panic mode. Every time they try to do something to you and fail they will come back worse, and as the game goes on it will show, as they slowly lose ground and become easier to deal with. Basically, the only way to beat them is to teach them to fear you. >:D

Of course, you need a competent team of your own in order to even get time to pull this off. ^^; But as I said, I had one, and we actually managed to win one of these insane matches together, essentially by beating the enemies back to the center and holding them off until time ran out. It was awesome, even if it was my only victory of the night. 1000% worth it~.

I almost hope The Curse will do this to me again sometime, because if I have to be on a losing streak, that's the kind I'd prefer: I'd much rather have enemies that are way too strong than allies that are way too weak.

Vox Akuma Comfort

This was made suddenly, I was inspired from Vox's recent ASMR stream. Where he mainly comforts you and talks about very important topics not a lot of streamers go into full detail

If you aren't a fan of ASMR I completely understand, but that stream really is a safe place where you can just tune out the world and listen to Vox. He doesn't make sussy jokes, just headpats and occasional kisses.

This is inspired from that stream, and not fully cannon on what happens. This is also going to be longer than usual

It's a given at Vox is an affectionate demon. Whether it be in the most sussy way possible, or the sweetest way possible. He loves the Kindred

After streaming with his friends for almost 4 hours playing the Splatoon 3 tournament. He was exhausted and planned to sleep for about and hour and a half till his next scheduled stream

Fortunately that last stream of the day was one where he didn't need so much energy, so he didn't need to exert too much effort. But you know well that regardless of how tired he may be he'll still try his best to be there for his Kindred

So now Vox is laying down on the bed taking a short nap with you, holding him tightly. Ready to wake him up when the time comes. It was a comfortable silence, the quiet snores of your partner, the very silent chatter outside the halls of your home, the soft music playing in the background to help Vox rest. It was a moment to keep in your memories

Vox awoke to the very softly shaking of you hand on his arm "It's almost time, I messaged chat that you'll take some time to have some food. You should update your stream on the time it would start" you whispered as he nodded and gave his thanks heading to his pc before cooking his nuggets. Deep down Vox knew that he had you when the time was hard

Stretching your arms backwards, you then followed him to his desk and stood there with him for a few minutes. His arms around yours, his front pressed against your back you were both back at that comfortable silence

"I love you" his voice was groggy as he whispered, but you still understood and moved up to give him a quick kiss

"You should get ready for your stream" Vox nodded before heading into the kitchen to start heating his nuggets

Vox sat down on his chair and silently asked you to join and sit on his lap. After a quick few minutes of just cuddling and kissing he needed to begin his stream. Before you could leave though, the pair of arms wrapped around your torso tightened its grip slightly, signalling that he did not want to let you go.

"Please stay with me while I stream" his plea was so genuine how could you say no. So you stayed quiet during the time he was live. Listening with chat as he whispered comforting words, one hand on the top of the mic and one hand on top of yours as he talks about how much he adores you. It's the perfect time to forget all about the past memories that have had hurt you, forget all of the worries for the future. And focus on his heartbeat and kisses, focus on his warm hand as they wrap around yours. He is your lifeline, when you feel down he will bring you back up.

Once the stream ended, his hands moved to yours, gently squeezing. It was a gentle moment and he did not wish to ruin it, but he just wanted you to be reassured

"Let's get back to bed" After fixing all of his equipment, Vox picked you up and led you to his bed, laying down with you in his arms.

"I love you" and he meant it

This was very self indulgent, to me he's such a comfort streamer. Despite his many sussy content, when he has his moments like this I swear I want to melt into a puddle every time.

My time at the Grand Fest summarized

So I went to the Grand Fest with my Cohozuna Dad... tbh I've played a couple of matches, I've encountered the first 100x battle I've ever encountered, it was weird since I didn't collect any festival shells yet but also for that 100x battle we lost, HORRIBLY... I then met with @noveloctoling (also I know that Novel's salmonid parents Shallow and Haggy got into the Grand Fest, and basically Jacksley was happy that I happen to bring him to the Grand Fest because Jacksley thought he wouldn't be allowed due to the Big Run) and some other friends, we played a couple of matches with eachother, I congradulated her when she won a 100x battle and reached Ruler Rank (tbh I reached Ruler Rank before Novel before that 100x battle).

Jacksley and I stopped to eat at the food stand that Robo ROM-en set up... I liked the ramen, it was good tasting food... I also met Cain at the stand, along with the former Cohozuna Unit members, Calder, Brook, and Dover... oh and Cove and Caspian was there too (Caspian repeatedly kept saying sorry bc of what he did to the salmonids, he felt some sort of regret) I also forgot I met Cuttlefish and DJ Octavio... I also saw my fellow friends that are agents, Arledge (Captain 3), Faze (Agent 8), and of course that annoying but funny inkling, Jordan (Agent 4)... Also Kai, Jay, and Aenon were performing in the different stages while wearing their usual clothing, and at halftime, they wore their Grand Fest clothing (before halftime started Kai fell asleep on the bus to the Grand Fest and Jay and Aenon woke him up)... halftime made me cry because not only I've got onto the stage after reaching ruler, but Three Wishes made me cry (also the Siren Callers performed their cover of the song)... Of course you usually see me with a stern and emotionless face, but when that song hit me... my tears came coming down, I also encountered my first 333x but unfortunately we lost, but I got emotional when I won my second 100x (I said second because I won my first 100x battle at the Starch Splatfest) basically with my teammates, and we were called the Variety Quartet, also the song that played on the 100x battle that I won was Smeared Canvas, yk the song that plays when you climb the Rocket in Return of the Mammalians story mode, yeah it brings me that moment when I was Neo Agent 3 of the New Squidbeak Splatoon ((this is Teal aka ChainSpike in Splatoon 3, I am still thanking C.Q. Cumber, SaMiAm, and sbrnoe for giving me the 100x win RAHHH THXXXX))

in other words I cannot say... there was so many emotions I brung out as I waved on the stage... even Jacksley was emotional when he saw me on stage bc he was proud of me... I still hated the new Tricolor stage, bc you know, the Big Run, I almost even brung out my True Chaotic Form to destroy that Tricolor stage... i did basically use my weapons I mainly use and also with other weapons, even having myself bring out my old main, the Octobrush, that I rarely even use... As the sun rose, it was all over... I started to break down crying, to the point I had Jacksley hug me... the results came out and Past won... I happen to be happy for Cain, Dover, and all of my friends on Team Past (Cain also broke down crying when he heard the results and came to me, he was so proud to win the Grand Fest)... but yeah... Here's to Splatoon 3, and the memories we made along the way... without the Past, Present, and Future, none of the memories we remember, the moments we have now, and our predictions of what's to come would exist, Time is never-ending, spend it as much as you can... why You should vote for aries in the splatoon oc tourney!

(ignore how this isn't a drawing. i still haven't figured out how to make splatoon characters look right in my artstyle...)

so @splatoonpolls is running an oc tourney, and I submitted my lovely boy Aries! so here is my post as to why i think you should vote for him!!

Aries is one of my, uh, multiple splatoon ocs? He moved out from his parents house at ~18, and left for Inkopolis, though still kept in contact with his younger sister Nova when he did.

For awhile, he didn't really do much, just lived a pretty average life. Got some jobs, occasionally played in Turf Wars, made some friends, etc.

Eventually his little sister moved to Inkopolis, too, once she turned 14, and though Aries didn't see her much, he always let her know if she ever needed anything, he was right in the city and to just let him know.

So, y'know, he just kinda goes back to living his life, doing normal things - though Turf Wars were starting to be things he did less often - and eventually got a pretty consistent job when Grizzco started showing up.

...Cons is that Salmon Run is Salmon Run, and he's constantly running around trying to not get himself splatted, but at the same time has started working regularly with someone named Carmen so he's also trying to look out for them since they aren't always the most observant, and so there's always a lot going on. It's stressful, and he doesn't care for it too much, but it's consistent and it pays the rent, so he just kinda sticks with it.

Eventually, he stops hearing from his sister as often, and she kinda just stops responding to his texts for a decent few weeks, so he stops by to visit her.

That's when he finds out Nova - for the past two years - has been member Agent 3 of some secret group that had something to do with that time the Great Zapfish disappeared. Twice. To add to this, he also discovers she almost got herself killed in some underground subway.

Nova drags him along with her to explain things properly to him, and that's when he finds out... Oh, so his coworker Carmen is also part of this group. Also those pop idols his little sister loved so much and always made him learn the songs and dances of, and that girl his little sister is talking about so much, and the current idols giving the news and stuff are involved to some degree with this, and-

Aries takes this information wonderfully, and definitely does not freak out a little bit (he does, he does so bad. He's so so confused and this is all just So Much to process at once).

But, whatever, after this, Nova tells him that that's all he really needs to know, to never tell anyone about this, and he just kinda goes back to his regular life.

Shockingly, this discovery never really impacts his life in any huge way, beyond being slightly concerned every time his sister disappears for a few weeks, or when Carmen shows up to work with some new random injury (though, knowing them that could be anything). He just keeps going along, showing up at work, hanging out with some friends, y'know doing normal things.

...Oh, also sometimes Big Runs happen and his boss calls him in whether he likes it or not. ...Usually not. He really doesn't like Big Runs.

Not because of any possible danger, the short-staffing, and usually having to work with a bunch of random Inkfish he may not do well with, but because he just really hates being called into work randomly, and because he thinks his boss is just... Really tiring to deal with, even if he has no clue who his boss actually is.

Also, eventually he gets some call from his sister along the lines of "hey yknow your boss?" "what about my boss?" "yeah so he's something called a bear. from before we ever evolved. also he just tried to destroy the world and i figured i should probably let you know about that" ".................what" "yeah" "can you please. please explain a single word of what you just said" "no i cannot".

And so then he has to just sit there and try and make sense of that. ...Except then he still gets called into his stupid job, has to drag himself to work, cannot say anything about this to anyone ever, and still has to go to his job.

Aside from all the...... Everything happening with multiple people he knows, somehow he still is just Some Guy and aside from the things already mentioned, pretty much nothing interesting actually happens. He's just vibing. He just kinda lives his life.

So yeah, please vote for my silly little guy Aries!

henlo it is i the headcANON, here to go ramble about everyone's favourite little guy, casey. its insane to me just how much you've endeared me and many other tcoti fans to this silly fella

i can see casey going to a religious school (the only difference from a non religious school is you learn re but literally no one cares lol), most parents will try and send their kids there cause they are known for being better schools (they get more funding for extra lessons), and casey couldnt give less of a shit about it

i also think he wouldve went to an all boys school, he just sorts acts like he did lol

whilst in school my man would try and break every single dress code policy known to man, half of the time hed just show up in his pe clothes, the other time hed show up with no tie, no jacket, a coat and whatever else he could fet his hands on that he wasnt supposed to have (english schools have really strict dress codes, idk why its dumb)

he knows a small amount of spanish, in most british schools you are forced to do mfl (modern foreign languages) and its usually either french or spanish (you rarely have a choice to pick which you want to do), some will let you pick up german and even mandarin but thats usually at gcse level or as an extracurricular activity (which most kids are also forced to do). he isnt fluent in spanish, not by a long shot, but he definitely knows how to have a conversation, albeit very scripted and short. however, one thing he does understand is how to swear in spanish, and what it sounds like. i imagine him and his friends just looking it up on the laptops during class time, definitely to annoy their teacher.

so i have this image in my head that gray doesnt like swearing all that much (maybe fresh got to him lol), so he tends to swear in spanish or french because the british boy wont understand - alas he does

casey could not be arsed with most lessons because he didnt really care about getting a good education since he couldnt see all that bright of a future for himself, if one at all, but he was actually quite good at maths and history, even when he tried not to be

he has been shown on more than one occasion, undernovella, and whilst he was put off it due to it 1. being in spanish, and 2. the cast being played 99% by monsters, he actually really ended up enjoying it by the end

hes also been getting into anime and manga ("dude its like a comic book but even more brutal"), mostly shonen like one punch man and dragon ball, but he also really enjoyed sailor moon and doesnt want to admit to it, he liked the romance and friendship aspect of it, also pretty girls

he has always been into comic books, his favourite super heroes are deadpool and spiderman

before he met gray (properly), he mostly played shooter games (ones that were free or cheap), fortnite, valorant, and a pirated copy of fifa, because thats what guys play. if his past self saw his year 4 stardew valley save file, hed spontaneously combust

i think he also plays splatoon now, he mains the dualies because theyre cool, hed definitely be an inkling as well but thats an au for another day

despite everything thats happened, he really did grow to love his last foster mum, she was a single lady and she treated him like her own son. hes had bad experiences with the foster care system in the past (breaking news: fork found in kitchen), parents only taking him in for the money, some wanting to complete their family and forcing him to live by their ideals, all that bad stuff, which is why he often ran away from them. he had run away from his last foster mum, two times before, but it was very early into their relationship before they got to understand each other better.

his last foster mum asked him what his hobbies were his first night at her house, he didnt know, so she suggested he pick up an instrument - he decided the guitar, because it looked cool. he almost cried when she offered to buy him lessons, he didnt take her up on the offer, determined to learn it by himself, and he did

he has a really nice singing voice he'll never let anyone see - hes a lyric baritone

also whilst in canon hes a brummie, i like to imagine he was born a bit further north (hes a mackem to me), and moved to birmingham to be with his most recent and last foster parent, and that he lived there for so long thats hes picked up the accent

he felt really bad leaving her but managed to convincr himself that she would be better off without someone like him in her life

casey is a very traumatised child, he has a lot of triggers and boundaries he doesnt fully understand himself, plus a boat load of unhealthy coping mechanisms (mainly smoking and socially isolating himself)

he tries to keep his bad habits a secret from gray, because he doesnt know how he would feel about it - he knows, he doesnt like it but he isnt exaclty the greatest at having healthy coping mechanisms himself, at the very least he tries to get him to swap one for another, instead of smoking play stardew valley with me for 37 hours straight :) ?

he often struggles with the idea that hes a burden, so he doesnt let people spend money on him, or give him gifts

he also struggles to express his emotions (hes british unfortunately), and has a hard time saying 'i love you' to anyone, the only person he never strugfled saying that to was his mum

bit of a trigger warning, im going to be talking about casey's injuries and all that jazz, so if you dont wanna read, head to the next bullet point! casey shouldnt be alive, the injuries he suffered were severe, the paramedics were convicned he was a lost cause (still they have to do everything they can), so it was a shock to all when he pulled through. this was, however, not without a bit of a battle, and it left permanent effects on his health. casey's lungs are horribly scarred (smoke inhalation will do that to you), and it doesnt help that he smoked before and after. his nerves on the left side of his body where the support beam collapsed on him, are quite literally fried. where it hit directly, he cannot feel anything there, the areas that were dames by the fire however are unbelievably sensitive and painful to the touch. even after the scar healed it stills remains sensitive, so he bandages up those areas. the beam also broke and bruised a lot of his bones, mostly his ribs and the bones in his arms. his left ear is also burnt, and a portion of it, mostly the tips of it, are straight up missing. after recovering from the initial injury, he had a skin graft taken from his right thigh to supplement the damage done to the left side of his face. for a while after he had to take a lot of pain meds, and undergo a ton of therapy both mental and physical - even still hes not fully healed

casey loves animals, particularly dogs. his last foster mother had a german shepherd, and he used to let it sleep on his bed. it made him feel safe and loved. dogs and cats also just like to come up to him on the street, bros a disney princess for real

beefed with paperjam for a while, both had a lack of trust in each other, but they got to be on equal ground after a while, that didnt last long, not since after chapter 31..

hes fighting demons (bisexuality)

ever since he met gray and by extension his wack ass family, hes grown more and more accustomed to monster culture, particularly their disregard for gender norms and compulsive heterosexuality, and hes been experimenting with his gender expression, he never thought hed actually enjoy dressing in pink or taking care of his hair. he tried painting his nails, but did not have the patience to let them dry, he still sometimes wears it, albeit chipped and blotchy, but he thinks it suits him

he has always been fine with being labelled a man, but sometimes he doesnt feel as though it fits him, not entirely, hes not sure what his gender is because sometimes male really does fit him, but other times he just wants to throw the whole concept of gender away, hes stuck with unlabelled for a while and feels as though it somewhat fits him

he once buzzed his hair cause all the guys in his school did for whatever reason, he cried for several hours afterwards and got nicknamed sampson for a week, biggest mistake of his life - bro experienced dysphoria for the first time in his life

celebrates gyftmas because its way cooler than christmas (I NEED A GRACEY GYFTMAS ONESHOT ASAP), he celebrates the majority of monster holidays since everyone (1 to 2 people at max lmao) in the house he currently lives in does too. is confused as to what monster halloween is supposed to be

likes going out with gray (which is once in a blue moon), his favourite spot is waterfall, but he also really likes snowden and hotland

I Must respond to some of these AAA

- I talked with multiple people about how Casey is ABSOLUTELY breaking every dress code he possibly can. Like he would come to school in the bare minimum to not get expelled but his “uniform” would just be wrinkled to hell and his tie would just hang around his neck completely untied

- Casey is genuinely intelligent and if he actually tried in school he would do really well. However he’s a massive shithead and doesn’t care because of how depressed he is

- I do have a very specific speech pattern and tone of voice for him in my head but I’m not sure exactly how to write it. Also about him being from Birmingham - he’s not really from the main city itself but more generally around that area, so he very well could lived farther north and end up closer to the main city has he went to live with foster parents. Im purposefully avoiding getting too detailed with exact places and cities because then it just becomes hyper-specific.

- he absolutely would love undernovella - he love sitcoms so he would adore those over-dramatic plot twists

- He and his current foster mom (before he left ofc) have a tolerable relationship. She was often gone from the house and left him to his own devices, so he would mostly just skip school and play games on his computer all day, which did annoy her significantly.

- his smoking is partially a coping mechanism, partially a peer pressure “cool guy” thing that he picked up, and partially something that could very subtlety equate to self-harm. I could get into a whole thing about his smoking habits. He doesn’t smoke that often, but it is definitely something he tries to hide from Gray. Or at least not make it obvious. Like I said recently PJ has caught him smoking cigs over the kitchen sink while Gray’s been asleep.

- you are correct in your assumption that he doesn’t feel anything on the part of his torso that was severely burnt.

- I’m sure he has shaved all his hair off at some point. In the past he for-sure had one of those haircuts that’s short and buzzed all on the sides but long on the top, or at least buzzed in the back.

- gray’s family and the entire omega timeline being extremely unlabeled when it comes to gender and sexuality, like it’s not a big deal in the slightest, is definitely a massive change for Casey and he struggles to understand it. He’s grown up in an environment where he’s constantly felt like he has to prove how tough and unfeeling he is in order to get ahead. That’s why he’s so embarrassed of his severe sweet tooth, because he’s scared it comes across as “girly”. He’s by no means sexist but he definitely is over-anxious about not being perceived as “weak”.

- I’m sure he would absolutely adore waterfall :)

There were a couple other requests I got as well, but I’m not sure when I’m going to fulfill them for a couple reasons.

?. A chapter in which Kirby is possessed or brainwashed

Someone requested a chapter like this, but I went through all the volumes I have currently available to me and could not find a single one in which this happens. The closest I found was a Manmaru Nikki chapter in which Kirby and King Dedede briefly swap bodies. If I ever find a fitting chapter, I’ll add it to the queue.

?. Translations from Haikara Walker, a Splatoon art book

Haikara Walker is a huge book, so I’m going to try to just translate and post a few pages at a time (maybe even only one page at a time) on a side-blog so that people who only care about Kirby can easily ignore it. I’m definitely gonna do it at some point (I’m nearly as big a Splatoon fan as I am a Kirby fan, so I’ll wanna translate it even just for myself), but due to its unique status among all the things I’m planning to translate I don’t really know when I’ll start or how much I’ll do at a time.

Phew! That’s about a whole month of chapters right there! On the plus side, my daily life has gotten a bit less busy, so the updates might come faster than usual. Also, I think after I finish these off, I’m gonna translate something I’ve been wanting to translate for a while. What, precisely? You’ll see :)

what made you pick up the current muse(s) you have? ━━ Noelle is based off a character I played in one of my DnD groups. After we closed the campaign, I decided I wasn't done roleplaying her when I was invited to roleplay on tumblr.

is there anything you don’t like to write? ━━ Not especially, but perhaps too many heavy emotions? I tend to get really into my character's headspace, and so writing too much hard-hitting or painful stuff can really mess with my mood.

is there anything you really enjoy writing? ━━ I love slice of life stuff. I also like fluff and silly stuff too. However, I don't think I limit myself, since all kinds of situations happen to my muses. I usually like to write what they're doing in whatever situation they find themselves in.

how do you come up with headcanons? ━━Most of the time, I make it up on the spot. Other times, it might be during a discussion with a friend and sharing ideas.

do you write in silence or do you play music?  ━━ Depends on the situation. If I'm just vibing, I can write to music. But if I'm deep into the emotions or writing a lot of dialogue, music can distract me from what I'm doing. Music is a fantastic source of inspiration, however.

do you plan your replies or wing them? ━━I almost never plan any part of my roleplaying. My favorite way to write is having my muses react and interact with situations presented to them.

do you enjoy shipping?  ━━ Depends on the muse and the vibes. I generally prefer some level of chemistry before I consider shipping anything outside of platonic or familial relationships. Noelle makes friends easy, but she's very VERY timid with her romantic affections.

favorite song? ━━ I don't really have one. I tend to shuffle songs around. Occasionally I'll get one stuck in my head for a very long time, but I don't know if those are my favorites, or just catchy.

favorite food? ━━ I like lots of different kinds of food. My preference changes with my mood and what I've eaten recently. On the whole, I like meats. Sometimes I crave a grilled chicken. Sometimes I prefer a bowl of stew or chili. A good steak is a very rare treat for me, since it's so difficult to afford and for me to prepare well.

favorite season? ━━ Fall. Some of my favorite holidays, beautiful leaves and scent, hopefully getting colder so I can wear long sleeves and is the gateway to my favorite time of year. I love the cold months.

(1/2) i remember reading your thoughts post on RotM and how you also didn't like OE's plot a while back, and they were what got me wanting to send that ask! i usually have trouble imagining the splatoon world beyond what we're shown, so i was super interested to see if you had any examples in mind of what a campaign that digs into the worldbuilding might look like. i would now also absolutely kill for something set in a city, things like bounce pads and grind rails immediately come to mind as fitting much better in recreational urban environments and i would give so much to see in-depth explorations of places like hagglefish and makomart and wahoo world (imagine the hub potential,,,)

as for RotM i agree that it's so painful in its missed potential, it feels like it's trying to surpass the impact of OE and in doing so completely faceplants into anime stakes escalation. I don't understand why they even needed to go into literal space, when the space exploration tech everywhere in alterna along with some sky plates: starry darkness edition could perfectly well create the aesthetic of it for a final boss showdown (grizz's will to bring back the past world being so strong that the plates start displaying constellations that no longer exist in the current era !!) without having to break immersion by actually leaving the planet. i think inkling grizz, guide octavio and the final conflict instead involving the dome itself going to shit would be my ideal combination of plot elements that aren't so silly and outlandish that they steamroll over the fact it takes place in the final resting place of the human species.

and man, octo expansion. it's still my favourite and in my mind it all works so well but there are so many holes seeing the actual canon laid out and not just half-memories from the one playthrough i did when i was 13. i had thought it was that marina and pearl frequently hacked their way into shady goings-on in their free time and that's how they came across the player's situation in the deep sea metro, and that marina being an octoling played a pretty big fucking part in her motivations to help the protag and in her arc as the only octoling escapee we know of in the Turning Point For Octolings story. i had also kind of got the idea in my head that they do stuff like this on the regular behind the scenes similar to the squid sisters for their involvement in an action plot to make more sense, but no they're literally just some guys who showed up. why did my inaccurate memories work harder to try and make them fit in the story than the actual published product. walkie talkie on a mountain 😭

thanks for your patience if i went too long into any tangents there but overall yessss to your alternative story ideas and thanks for inspiring me to always be thinking about the possibilities of the splatoon world :) if theres other stuff i forgor to talk about ill send another but this ask has already gotten huge :0

I didn't even really consider RotM potentially having an ending where instead of space, Alterna just gets wrecked for real. man, that would've been a WAY cooler conclusion not to mention it would've been completely realistic AND impactful after everything you learn about it. One of the things that has always annoyed me about RotM is that Alterna's walls collapsed and humanity perished because a rocket TEST launch, not even a proper launch, overloaded the crystals and caused everything to cave in. In spite of this, it's not really caved in during RotM and they literally launch ANOTHER ROCKET AND NOTHING HAPPENS. Not even a test, a straight up LAUNCH. How come nothing happened this time!?!?! I know the reasoning is probably something like golden eggs as fuel don't burn as hot or something and that's why it's safe to launch a rocket this time, but come on now, it would've been way cooler and more impactful if Grizz repeated humanity's mistake and caused Alterna to be destroyed out of his hubris and wish to go back to how things used to be. It would've also been such a cool setup for a desperate final battle.

Anyway those thoughts aside, always happy to inspire people to think deeper into the Splatoon world. Honestly I don't even think THAT deep into the Splatoon world and i want to work on that and try to learn to get more out of it, especially when making OCs. But every time my ramblings inspire people that's a win in my books!
