Early MCYTblr Interviews: wormweeb

our interviewee today is @wormweeb, author of the cowboy au, nominee in the 2020 MCYTblr election, and overall MCYTblr veteran. below is a transcript of the questions and answers!

Q: What do you remember most fondly about “Early MCYTblr”? (2020-2021)

A: I think early mcytblr had the perfect mix of being an insular, small community with enough people actually posting (whether it be shitposts, art, fix, etc.) to keep the community alive. Perfect reblogger-creator ratio, I think. I loved seeing the familiar notifications from blogs that frequently RBed my stuff and familiar Urls in the tags (which I probably checked daily lol). There was this infectious energy that made being in the fandom so fun, with all the inside jokes and interactions and inter-blog familiarity.

Q: Do you recall your experience in the first MCYTblr election? What was it like?

A: Honestly, there was a lot of anxiety. I didn’t have many friends in the fandom in the sense that I didn’t often DM with people or talk in discord servers. I was kind of reclusive, so having to reach out to find running mates was nerve-racking! And then being thrust into a huge discord server with a bunch of other people I didn’t really know at all… It was all bizarrely anxiety-inducing. I didn’t really care about the results that much, since it was kind just a popularity contest (no hate, just true). I think the elections were cute and fun, another sort of fandom activity that I think only could’ve worked in an insular but involved fandom.

Q: Building off the last question– in my time archiving, I’ve seen people both hold you in high regard and condemn your blog wholesale. Is it odd to be talked about as a pseudo-historical figure in MCYTblr culture? 

A: It’s mind-boggling! When I did all my posting as wormweeb, roughly July 2020 to august 2021, I was 16/17 and literally never left my house due to quarantine. It’s bizarre to think I was influential in that microcosm of a fandom, because I was truthfully just Some Guy irl. It was weird to see the extremes of how people treated me, with some users (much younger than me, I should add) treating me like a cc, with other people acting like I was a toxic supervillain.

At the time, I was deeply concerned with my image in the fandom. I reveled in the shocked reactions to some of my more… avant guard posts… but I was also really bothered when people talked badly about me. I wanted to be liked and popular, but I also wanted to be shocking and critical. I had contradictory motivations behind my posting, which I probably lead to such polarized reactions to my presence in the fandom.

Ultimately, I think it’s super interesting to see how people talk about me — whether they remember me as ‘that one crazy truthing blog’ or the cowboy au author or a proto-critblr poster or a toxic bad takes poster, etc. I don’t take any of it too personally any more, thankfully.

Q: Do you think that MCYTblr’s cultural shift away from crit and ‘truthing’ has been an overall good or bad thing? 

A: I can’t really say. I think it’s natural that as a fandom expands, the most palatable takes will become the dominant ones, and any unpopular criticism / trutherisms will be pushed to the fringe. I can see why some people thought criticism was toxic and truthing was intrusive, but truthfully, I don’t think it reflected any poster’s moral character. I’m not involved in mcytblr anymore, so I don’t know exactly what the state of the current fandom looks like.

Q: Do you ever find yourself missing 2020-2021 MCYTblr? If so, what do you miss the most?

A: I often do miss that era of my life. Truthfully, I miss the attention and (infinitesimally small, microcosmic) cultural import I had. There was an exciting thrill that came with getting notifications every second of the day — that’s not an exaggeration either. I liked having people leave deranged asks in my ask box, or ask my opinion on some random streamer micro controversy, or people asking me when the next chapter of my fanfic would come out (lol). I, of course, miss the other elements of being in an active fandom — the fanfics, the fan artists, the familiarity between blogs,

However… I also know I was mentally unhealthy during that time. I was isolated, so it was fun and exciting to be an ultra-micro celebrity, but at the same time, I took it way too seriously. Because I painted myself as some sort of moral guardian, the great Intellectual Critiquer of content creators, I was terrified to make any bad takes… which, ironically, I made a lot of. I had painted myself into a corner both being dteam critical and (unfortunately) a genuine dteam stan at the time.

Q: Several in-jokes have lost their context (jewge, ancap dream, tradwife george/dream, homophobic dream and sapnap, republican dream, mega milk sapnap/george, etc). Would you like to provide their context, for archival and media literacy purposes?

A: Here’s a rundown for all of them!

“Jewge” was actually sparked by warpedfungusonastick, which I helped popularized. There are a few old videos where George’s friends called him jewge, and that combined with his ashkenazi last name led me to speculate he was jewish — for what its worth, im also jewish. Unfortunately, I think those videos of baby jewge have been lost to time. But nonetheless, that spawned a mini-jewge fandom, which jewge fanart!

Tradwife George and dream… I don’t know even know. I think the idea of “male wives” was trending on general Tumblr at the time. There was already this fandom idea of Dream being a “needy top” and George being the sugar baby/bitchy/uninterested love interest, which I just transplanted onto the idea of tradwifery. Dream as the doting tradwife, George as the unloving tradwife, etc.

Republican/Anarcho-capitalist dream — Ah, this one is kind of embarrassing!! I was really into jreg, and I was, for the first time ever, exposed to political ideas outside of the generic democrat vs republican dichotomy. I was really fascinated by right-wing libertarian or “ancap” ideology, and I already saw dream as a kind of self-made capitalist success story. At least, that’s what he portrayed himself as. My critique of dream and calling him ancap/republican was kind of a baby’s first leftism moment for me… but I nonetheless think the jokes were mostly funny.

Homophobic dream / sapnap — They gave me republican vibes. Dream especially, with some of his older, unsavory tweets, reeked of edgy gamergate humor.

Megamilk sapnap — I didn’t really pioneer this one! I believe this was mostly a Tumblr user who I think was pandascanpvp, or it was Plates gayminecraftmen (or both).

I’ll use this opportunity to catalogue a few more obscure wormweeb-pioneered AUs.

Homestuck au! I think I imagined it as dream = dirk, George = Jake English. Colournotfound (rip gone but not forgotten) did so much of the sustaining of the au.

Scott Pilgrim au. Dream = Scott, George = Ramona. Fundy = envy. This one got fan art!

Q: What was your physical, mental, and emotional reaction when kaceytron pulled up your crit post on stream?

A: Baffled. Excited. God, I wish I had clipped it! I still have a screenshot. I desperately hoped she would read it to dream (who joined the stream later). That felt like I had peaked as a cc stan blog… having a C-list streamer pull up my post on stream. Literally google searching “dream queer baiting” because she didn’t even know what she was accusing him of, or how to support her argument.

Q: Is there anything else you particularly want to share or talk about? 

A: I was just want to say that although I don’t watch or support any member of the dteam any more, I still am proud of the cowboy au. It’s kind of a relic of the time (especially the gnf and Maya mxmtoon stuff). The general response to the fanfiction was… wow!! Everyone who commented on that fanfiction was so exceedingly kind. People even drew fan art. I am still happy to have written something that, despite the inherent cringeness of it, positively affected so many people.

1- When did you start playing Choices? What's the first book you played?

It honestly feels like forever ago now… around early 2018. I’m pretty sure the first book I played was Rules of Engagement. I still love that book and think it is entirely underrated. Loved the sibling storyline and all three LIs were wonderful, though I love my bartender most of all (sorry Leo!!!) but the first book I fell in love with was Red Carpet Diaries (for reasons named Thomas Hunt 🙈😍).

2- When, and why, did you join Choices fandom?.

I was a lurker in the fandom for a while before officially joining in 2019. Prior to that, I had reblogged the occasional post here and there on my personal blog. It wasn’t until I wrote a couple of Thomas Hunt fics for myself that I joined and created my Thomas Hunt blog because I wanted to share them but was too self-conscious to post them on my personal blog.

3- How did you pick your url name?

TheartoflovingThomasHunt: because as my blog says “loving Thomas Hunt is an art form” lol (that idea popped in my head and I stuck with it).

LoveAlexHunt: When I created my Thomas blog I didn’t expect anyone to actually read my work or interact with me so it was attached to my personal main which meant I couldn’t reply to people without using my personal main, so I made this main and transferred the Thomas Blog to it. I didn’t know what to call it and I hate picking names. Since I was only writing for Thomas at the time and Alex is my LI for him, it seemed fitting for my main to reflect her. AlexHunt was taken so I decided on Love, Alex Hunt

StoryofmyChoices: I started this blog because I was afraid of getting hate (see q4) but the name came from the idea that the blog would be a more general Choices blog and be the Story of the Choices I made in the game and in the fandom.

4- Go back to your archive and tell us about the first post on your Choices blog.

theartofLovingThomasHunt: It was just an icon of Thomas that I made with the blog name

StoryofmyChoices: an “unpopular opinion” post admitting to actually liking Justin Mercado (Save the Date) and how I was so afraid of getting hate that I started a new blog. I figured if it got really bad, I could easily delete the blog and still have my Hunt ones. (I did get hate for several months but never actually left)

5- How long have you been writing fanfiction?

I wrote fanfiction as a child and through middle school when I was discouraged from writing it and was told by many people in my life how childish and ridiculous it is to write fan fiction, that I was too intelligent to waste my time on something like fan fiction, and basically just told to stop. So if you count Mary-Kate and Ashley detective fan fiction, then since I was 7 (I won’t tell you how long ago that was … but a good long while 🙈).

I gave writing fan fiction up for years, I only picked it back up because of Thomas Hunt. He inspired me to forget what anyone else had to say, to forget the opinions of others who may disagree with my choices, and just to create what I want and what I believe. So all of that to say 3 years give or take a decade (or two).

6- What is your favorite Choices book to write about?

Red Carpet Diaries! I think I’ve written like 200 stories for Thomas and Alex!

(But, I also really love writing Open Heart especially for Bryce and Olivia too)

7- Share the first fanfic you wrote with us. Do you still like it or would you change anything about it?

Coffee Date:

I still really like it and I wouldn’t change a thing. If it weren’t for that fic, I’m not sure any of the others I’ve written in the past few years would have ever happened. It is the story that made me fall further in love with Thomas and Alex, but most importantly it’s the one that reminded me how much I loved writing and that I shouldn’t be ashamed to write about things I love no matter what other people think about them.

8- What is your favorite fic that you’ve written?

That’s so hard! I have so many that I really love and have a special place in my heart! Part of me wants to say Mal’s orphanage series because I genuinely would love to run an orphanage and care for children in need.

Ahhh the pressure!!! Can I skip this one?! Okay, fine, I’m going to pick randomly, but not?!

An Unexpected Misadventure:

Synopsis: The twins bring an unexpected guest home to meet their mom and things take a turn when their new friend slips from their grasp.

It’s pure chaos, and I love it! It is 100% what would happen if someone brought me a frog. #irrationalfear 🙈

9- Do you have a fic that you didn’t expect to be well received, but it was?

I had always been an Ethan stan, and I loved writing Ethan, but when the pandemic started I needed a comfort character, one that was openly available—no slow-burn necessary—one who was affectionate and just genuinely a ray of sunshine, so I decided to write Bryce as a creative exercise. I never expected to fall so much more in love with Bryce through writing him and having people read and enjoy my Bryce. I was surprised my first fic Stay did so well

10 - What about one you expected to be, but it could use a little more love?

Seeing as I missed the height of Thomas Hunt’s popularity and only started writing him when his favor was dying out, pretty much any of my Thomas Hunt fics could use more love. I also feel like I write for characters that are less popular in general like Justin Mercado (sorry, not sorry), Levi Schuler, Mal Volari, etc. It just means they don’t get as much love, but that’s okay. I am genuinely so grateful for those that do love them and support my efforts to keep them alive.

10- What is your specialty as a fanfic writer?

Fluff, fluff, and fluff! All the fluffy goodness. Life has enough pain and angst already, I can’t handle writing it too. I guess I also specialize in small moment stories. I like taking everyday moments that could go overlooked and turning them into something special because all of those small moments strung along are really what love is.

11- If you could write only angst, fluff, or smut for the rest of your writing life, which would it be and why?

Let me think about this 🤔🤔🤔… it’s a close one, but I guess fluff? JK, fluff all day, every day!

12- Do you ever recognize yourself in any of your MC’s or in your writing?

Definitely, there is a piece of myself in each of my MCs and OCs. Alex Spencer/Hunt is probably the one I most identify with. I see my kindness, love of coffee, dislike for mornings, and appreciation for simple things in her. We also share physical characteristics. She is everything I wish I was and aspire to be.

Olivia Hadley/Lahela would be a close runner-up. She is nurturing, empathetic, and supportive. She works hard and can sometimes give too much of herself to the kids she works with which leaves her drained. I feel like I put a lot of who I am and how I feel into her.

13- What element of writing do you struggle with most?

The part where words are actually required to get the idea from my head to a finished post. Words are hard! lol

14- Do you have any neglected work you really want to finish?

My WIP list is really embarrassingly long. I have so much I want to finish. The most popular thing on that list though would probably be my Love and Scotch series which is a Hollywood U/Open Heart crossover.

15- If someone you know in real life (who isn’t involved in fandoms) asked to read your work, would you let them? If yes, what would you recommend they read first?

No, and no! I’ve had a few people ask what I write but I usually just answer with “words” and leave it at that. I would never let anyone I personally know read my fanfiction. 🙈

16- Are there any writers (published authors and/or fanfic writers) who influenced your writing?

There are so many amazing fan fic writers that I love and have inspired me but I’m only going to pick the top 3 that come to mind because I don’t want to make a list and leave anyone out!

The-devil-writes-drabbles: I know they deactivated a while ago, but their creativity and ability to tell a story in so few words has always inspired me to try the same.

@lilyoffandoms They always tell stories that are fun and sometimes unexpected. They build worlds around their characters that pull you in and make them feel real to you.

@The-Soot-Sprite/@zaffrenotes: I love their use of social media edits to tell stories and the puns! Gotta love the puns! I don’t do many social media edits but when I do, I always think of their series, Cordonians Undercover!

17- Which one of your stories would you most like to see as a movie/series?

My Red Carpet Diaries universe. I just love Thomas and Alex so much. I’d love to see them come to life with their beautiful twins and most importantly Bogart, I love that dog way too much!

18- Do you write original stories?

I do! I have a finished novel manuscript that I’d love to see published, but so far no luck. One day I’ll look into self-publishing, maybe? I also have 2 unfinished manuscripts that I’d love to finish, and 1 drafted outline for a novella.

19 - What other hobbies do you have?

Outside of work, I don’t have much time for hobbies, and writing and daydreaming about writing definitely take most of my time. Other than that, I have a lot of animals and hanging with them, my horses, in particular, are enjoyable.

I am truly blessed to be a part of this fandom. I can not express the gratitude I have for all the support and love I’ve received in my time here. The past few years haven’t been easy for any of us, but being part of this fandom, being able to share stories that mean something to me, has been what has helped me through. I’m not sure I would be here still without this fandom. Writing Thomas Hunt saved me when I was in a very dark place and Bryce Lahela got me through the pandemic (which will be ending any day now, right?!).

I don’t know what the future holds, but I will forever treasure the memories I’ve made in this fandom and be grateful for the experiences I’ve had (both the good and the bad).

3. Where in the tracklist would you put Change and Copy of a Copy of a Copy? Side A/ Side B?

4. Walls ended with Only the Brave. How will LT2 end?

5. Do you think we’ll get a track-by-track for LT2? If so, what will be the vibe? Will Louis, once again, be the hot teacher educating his fandom? Will he say anything as soft as, “It’s a cry for help”?

6. What color scheme for LT2?

7. Will we get a music video featuring Louis’ top lip?

My powers of manifestation seem to work on everything but new music 😒

1. 12 song album. It'll be a beautifully curated tracklist that you have to listen to in order or else it won't feel right.

2. "Sex from dawn to dusk to dawn … is not a story arc. That’s just another day in the office" ??? Damn, okay, but I want at least one sex song! Louis deserves it. We deserve it. His exes deserve to hear how much better he has it now.

*pure speculation* LT1 told us a story of heartbreak and pain with the reassurance that you can survive whatever is thrown your way. The bridge from Walls to LT2 is Kill My Mind, Walls, Only The Brave and Copy, so if he continues that narrative, LT2 will be about healing, growth, and escaping the darkest times. Taking the pain and turning it into positives. Understanding yourself and learning to find joy in the small things, even if things still seems bleak and dark at times. Kind of like @crankydee's thoughts here.

One small note from Change, Louis often sings about not being alone in what he's feeling, but in Change it's more active - "call me, come to me, let's get through this together".

3. Change will be fairly early - first 3 songs on side A - as it's closer to the start of the journey.

I don't think Copy will be on the album. It's a dark and almost angry song. It kind of has the feeling of being that moment where you let your anger consume before you let it go. And it does sit perfectly as a connection between Walls and the story of healing on LT2.

4. Only The Brave was a "nice campfire moment", a soft moment of solitude to reflect on everything that happened in Walls, and the perfect way to end Walls. The closing song for LT2 should be a fight song - "look at how I've grown, now watch me soar".

5. We better get another track-by-track. It was so beautiful listening to Louis talk about his songs and I hope he gets more into the technical side of things too. I don't think there will ever be anything as heart-wrenching as "a cry for help" but I'm sure we'll have some other gems in there.

Me racist? HAHAHAHAH you truly know NOTHING about me nor my ex-blog’s message. It was a place when you were welcomed no matter your skin color, religion, gender ... proof? well it got deleted thanks to you. but ask around this time and search for who reblogged my posts as they were always the top of the tags (even if I don’t trust how bad you are at research). This is not an excuse tho, so I always believed that I was lacking and if someone had something to say against me, there is a chance they are right and just in case I should reflect on myself. But for your case it was pure nonsense. ME? a stalker? how can I stalk when I have social anxiety and at that time couldn’t even leave my room? I am even afraid of taking public transportations and just the other days I was crying from joy when I took a taxi alone. they said I was in Japan stalking Jimin and Jungkook and took a pic when I was NEVER EVER was on that land. You put me on the same list as people who bought info about BTS’ flights to be on the same plane as them? I was stalked before and let me tell you it ain’t cute and fun. I am even scared of the idea of being followed. that’s why I never shared openly my age, country, or anything about me on my blog. that’s why I have no personal social media to this day and that’s why making my ex-blog was some sort of miracle in my life. 

Silent? yes I was silent when I received hate and didn’t even vent to my dear followers or pointed fingers. Why? because I thought as my day was hell I shouldn’t make anyone’s day worse. I was worried about my dear followers with mental illnesses being triggered. I tried to take my life so many times I lost count but I still came here and smiled. It was my safe place and you took it away. Yet, I should pity you? You hated on me first for no reason and you know it deep inside but right now you are trying to convince yourself that you are the angel and feel no guilt. Compared to you. I pointed fingers at no one and didn’t name you when my blog was gone. Why? because compared to you, I thought you will not be able to manage the hate and what was done .. I didn’t want you to suffer the same way I did when you are the one who made me suffer the most the past couple of days. But the kind Mimi is someone you will never remember because you dared touch the friends I love and calling them names. I don’t mind people insulting me but don’t you dare touch my people. I also enjoy BTS’ bond and love their interactions. I posted content of all kinds of interactions JM X JK, JK X V, V X JIN, JIN X SG, SG X JH, JH X RM, RM X JM ... If you are calling this fetishing asian men just because I scream over BTS as a fan and love their bonb. Then aren’t you against the idea of being an ARMY? So, I went to see that post you made about me with “PROOF” and it was just another person who was salty as I got them blocked I can’t even recall who they were but oh well. The gifs: There is a story to this. The first week I came to Tumblr, It was my first time on this site and the first time I share anything. I shared some content and my analysis had a lot of notes for a small creator that started just a week ago. But I made a mistake, I found a gif and posted it while crediting the gif maker. At the time I had NO idea it was wrong. I logged off and after 5 hours I log in and there was a WAR for that ONE gif. The big blog had me blocked and her friend was telling me to take it off. As soon as the person told me I did IMMEDIATELY and apologized againa and again and told them to tell the original gif maker to deblock me as I want to apologize directly and that they can block me after that. They did and I apologized but they just kept insulting me. Of course it was MY mistake and that’s why I apologized. But for them. for a mere gif (yes I say a mere gif because I made so many gifs and they were used on all platforms but I never thought it was necessary to hate that much on someone like they did to me). That blog was big and had big blog mutuals. Thanks to that, I became someone you do NOT become mutuals with but block and never reblog content from. Without any big mutuals. Without any shoutouts. Only my love for BTS, my dear followers’ support and my hard work.. My blog, became bigger and FAST (I got 10k in less than 6 months after I started) and that brought loads of jealousy and thus more rumors. Even if, I apologized and since then made my own gifs. And I made SO many gifsets that I can’t remember how many there were. What I can recall is at some point I made them daily and many times a day.

Ships Jikook? I posted content of ALL the members interactions. I was here at a time where Jikook stans and Taekook stans where always fighting. BUT I posted about both and even made so many posts to encourage loving all the members and all the interactions. I also used the tags solely used for shipping with other big tags to show that BTS’ interactions are all important and their bond is beutiful. That our fandom shouldn’t hate on a member just because they are not part of a ship we like. And wait .. even if I shipped Jikook? I got called ALL those names by someone who ship the members with readers and write sexual scenes? Like, wait ... I am truly confused. Like, write fanfic and do all you want as long as you hurt no one I guess but why am I getting hurt for doing non of it? Like according to you, the person you should be cancelling is yourself?! I am also not into cancel culture like you so hahah whatever.

Posted stalker pics: well wow the story changes each time. Next thing you will hear that I was the one holding a camera for a member in a Vlive lol. Let me teach you about this update thing I was doing. I follow accounts I trust and that’s how we get info circulating fast. I always do reasearch but sometimes mistakes are made. For example when lately people shared pictures of BTS leaving their virtual concerts and schedules. There was a watermark of a news outlet. Normally we trust those but only later we realized that those people stalked BTS. You clearly can’t know it all. But I still didn’t share many pics related to many events (I will not name those as pple can search them even now because some pple never deleted those). And all big accounts shared many pics then deleted later. This happens all the time but it happened like ONCE for me. However, I am called a stalker for that? 

When Jonghyun passed away ... I don’t even wanna recall that night as the memories just ... when that happened I posted about it and send my condolescences. that post had over 10k notes and was at the top the tag. Why did I do that? I was devastated. Yes, many were but I will talk about me rn: I was suicidal the days before that and one of the songs that I listened to when I was broken where by him. I has been in the kpop world since 2006. And learned about his group since their debut with ‘Replay’. I was never a stan but I still knew of many groups and listened to all the songs I liked. I was very sad when he was gone and ANGRY mostly. Why is this angel leaving? Why is someone like me still here? Why did I not leave instead of him? How much did he suffer? And in the midst I posted a post from twitter that stated how agencies usually put down pple with mental illiness and hide it in the industry. Yes, that was important but NOT at that time. I shouldn’t have posted that and I realized after 5 min of doing so that it was WRONG. So I deleted it FAST but it kept being reblogged and I kept getting hate and people telling me: “Go kill yourself”... the sad part is that I almost did as my answer was “true ... why am I still here?” I apologized and logged off then to this day won’t forget crying at 3 AM while walking outside next to my dad. I was outside as I couldn’t breathe anymore and the idea of seeing the walls of my room was hell. I cried and cried and the teary eyes that my father looked at me with are something I am ashamed of to this day. To add one more thing while I am spilling the beans. I hate learning about someone dying. My grandma passed away sometime before that and it was so shocking to me. and some people came and told me when I was mourning her: Go follow that bitch of grandmother of yours. And for what? At that moment I didn’t think I would live to see the next year but I went to therapy and took medecine that was hurting and made me shake all day just to turn somewhat sane. No one knew tho ... I smiled all day and cried all night.. Even on the blog I fought no one of the ones who hated me. I just blocked them but even that was an insult to them?

Again, you said no one should defend me. Yet, you were ready to fight whoever touched anyone around you. What about changing your URL to beautifulassirony

Also THE hypocrisy. If you are sorry then why are you answering an ask of someone isulting someone you want to apologize to? Just make a post wher you apologize or ignore it from the start?

Rules & Guidlines

So you might be wondering, just what is all this? Well in short, it’s a fandom-wide gift exchange. Upon signing up, participants will randomly be assigned a giftee. It’s then your job as the Secret Santa to create a gift for your giftee between December 25th - January 1st, when we all share our work. You won’t know who has your name, so who gets you will be a surprise!

Some general rules first though.

This gift exchanged is SFW, meaning all gifts have to be appropriate for all audiences. Think of it like this, if you’re gift would exceed the ‘T’ rating on ao3, it probably isn’t appropriate for this exchange.

Stealing is absolutely prohibited. The tracing of others artwork or photographs, and the plagiarizing of a fanfic is utterly unacceptable. If you’re found to be stealing either, you will automatically be blacklisted, and your Secret Santa will be notified and be reassigned. All gifts must be newly made.

As HPHM is incredibly MC-centric, this gift exchange will likely reflect that. Please have a clear reference for your MC. In-game screenshots, faceclaim, lengthy description, etc. all work great.

There will be one check-in prior to the big day. Please don’t drop out after this check-in. We understand life happens, and sometimes some situations are unavoidable. What made you decide to get a Tumblr?: I couldn’t tell you. I can tell you all about the story about how the FN.aF fandom got me into the RP scene but I’m not sure what prompted me to move to tumblr since it was so, so long ago. I guess I decided to just do it! Made some friends along the way, most of which are gone now, but... hey ho, I’m here now.

Do you get asks on a daily basis?: Somewhat? I tend to reach out to a lotta people and reblog a fair amount of memes, I just don’t get too much unprompted stuff which sucks. It’s always a pleasant surprise when someone is invested enough in my muses to send little questions, and I really wish it happened more! Now, as for actually answering those asks...... uh, this question is over--!

Why did you choose your URL?: It’s kinda the theme of my story and the muses, at least it was back when it was just Alex, Yeong-Hui and Garis, but it still kinda fits. The whole idea is that their story and experiences are reflective of the way people from totally different backgrounds and with totally different life experiences can find unexpected solace in the little common ground they have with one another, and conversely how people who go through the exact same situations can turn out so, so differently. The prime cases of this are of course with Alex & Garis with what they each went through and how their relationship blossomed, but not it’s extended even further with Theo’s backstory situation, and Souji being a bit of an outlier to the entire thing yet still being everyone’s friend, more or less! That, and I really can’t think of a better URL. I’m not going back to something like hearts-of-coal, but spectrumbound was pretty good... ah, well.

1. Why did you choose your url?

My old one was for a fandom I've never posted about, so I decided to pick one that reflects who I am. I'm an emo metalhead! Simple as that!!

2. Any side blogs? If you have them, name them and why you have them.

I don't have any. It seems like too much work, and I don't mind just posting all of my interests on one blog. There's no theme here.

3. How long have you been on Tumblr?

I made this blog in 2019, but didn't regularly use it until like the end of that year or maybe early 2020.

Nope!! I don't like the queue, and I never use it, so no need for a tag.

5. Why did you start your blog in the first place?

I saw a bunch of gay Tumblr post screenshots on Instagram and Pinterest. Tumblr seemed like a safe place to be open about my identity.

6. Why did you choose your icon/pfp?

It combines two of the main interests of this blog!! Taylor and Nikki!! I'm a major Swiftie, so any icon I ever have here will 100% be her. This blog is dedicated to 80s bands in part, so having a pic of Nikki Sixx with Taylor just combines my interests so well!! Also I made the background pink because I love the color, and my prior icon was pink, so I wanted to stay consistent.

7. Why did you choose your header?

When I was still pretty new to the Guns N' Roses fandom, I fell in love with that picture!! I love their glam looks!! I edited the background pink to match my header. Like my icon, my header shows one of the main artists I post about!!

8. What's your post with the most notes?

I'm pretty sure it's my Twenty Øne Piløts post about what FPE has stood for in the last 3 eras. For sure that was my first post to break 300 notes, even if it's not currently my top note post. Seems on brand for me as a person, but definitely odd in terms of this blog lol.

Almost everyone I follow is a mutual. I did go through and count, but since the number is so close to how many I'm following, I don't want to say.

Last book I read: Currently about halfway through Arkady Martine’s A Desolation Called Peace. What an incredible book, she’s somehow gotten even better at writing since the first one. In particular, I’m going to be shoving it in the face of anyone writing about a child being raised for rulership, like a crown prince in a monarchy—the characterization of Imperial Associate Eight Antidote (bright, socially and politically aware, and eleven goddamn years old someone please hug this child what are you doing to him) is one of the highlights of the whole thing so far.

Top 3 fictional universes i’d like to live in: Oof. Teixcalaan might not be so terrible, if I were Teixcalaanli of reasonably comfortable socioeconomic status. (Oh, stop, no way in hell was I the only one idly wondering what I might use as a Teixcalaanli name by halfway through the first book—how’s Fourteen Reflection sound?) I’m starting to feel like the Star Wars universe would be a lateral move, and if I can petition to specifically be plopped into an Alexander Freed novel, at least my self-destructive tendencies will be beautifully rendered in graceful prose. And in the universe of AJ Hackwith’s The Library of the Unwritten, I’d be curious to see what my hypothetical creations would look like (though creators aren’t supposed to see them, at least not while alive).

Fave solo artists: I really like Lauren Daigle, and Jackie Evancho used to be my FAVE. Aaand idk if this counts but Michael Giacchino! love his scores, especially the score for Inside Out. There’s also this guy called Clay Kramer on YouTube who makes KK Slider covers of popular music, his stuff gives me so much seratonin😅

Song Stuck in my Head: Well I’m listening to music rn and “I’m Me” from Phineas and Ferb is on so I’ll say that! (I’ll revisit this one when I finish the list and update it with whatever song i’m listening to/is stuck in my head then) (ok the music has since been turned off and now I have “Status Quo” from High School Musical stuck in my head so! There ya go!) (now it is the next day, and I’ve got “when the party’s over” stuck in my head...i think these three songs are an accurate reflection of my taste in music🤣)

Last Movie: uhhhhh oh yeah, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice! It was SO GREAT because Jay Baruchel plays the main character (and the main character is super awkward), so I felt like I was watching Hiccup from the How To Train Your Dragon franchise learn magic and it was GLORIOUS. And also Nicholas Cage is great. And I liked the love interest in the movie as well!! She had a role to play in the story and felt authentic and genuine, which I appreciated!

Last Show: ok well the last show I watched by myself was Phineas and Ferb! Specifically, the episode with the Mardi Gras block party and then the one where Candace and Stacy compete in an obstacle course against Isabella and Ginger (omg wAIT ginger and Stacy are sisters and Isabella and Candace are GOING to be sisters mY HEART I—AH🥺). I hadn’t watched those episodes in forever, so they were really fun to revisit! I think the last actual show I watched was Kids Baking Championship or something, lol. (Those kids are AMAZING. So skilled!)

When i created this blog: November 2019! It was riiiight after the season 3 finale of miraculous aired and absolutely wrecked my emotions. I had some fanfic written that I’d never posted and had been thinking about making a tumblr/ao3 for awhile, and seeing the finale made me finally go, “.....you know what, yeah. The finale is aired, no more spoilers.....it’s time to make a blog.” So I did! And I posted my first fic! And I’m so happy i did :)

What Do I Post: a bunch of multi fandom stuff XD. This blog started off as 90% Miraculous, 10% other fandoms I like...but now it’s just kind of a hodgepoge of my favorite fandoms (with a focus on Phineas and Ferb, lol). I reblog a lot of posts, and then I post original stuff too! I write fanfic, nowadays for Phineas and Ferb but for Miraculous in the past (and probably in the future!), I draw art (mostly Phinabella art because I’ve been drawing them since i was 11 and it feels good to return to my roots), and OCCASIONALLY I will write an analysis post (I’ve got one in the works rn actually 👀), attempt to make a meme, or dip my toe into salt just SLIGHTLY before quickly backing away, lol. If I were to list the fandoms I post about in the order of how frequently I post about them, I’d probably say: Phineas and Ferb, Miraculous....and thennnnn everything else is pretty random and depends on the day, lol.

Other blogs: this is my only blog! Sometimes I think about making a separate blog for my art and writing, but I am not sure if I should or not....maybe I will someday, but idk. I also have an AO3 for fanfic and an Instagram for art! All are under the name “authenticcadence18.”

Do I get asks: sometimes, yeah!! Sometimes I reblog ask games/prompts and get some asks for those (I’ve got so many prompts in my inbox I want to write/draw things for...ah it’s fine, I’ll get to it eventually😅), and sometimes lovely people will leave thoughts or nice messages in my inbox🥺💕. I’ve got a specific tag for all those nice messages so I can read back over them whenever I need a boost!

Why this url: it’s a music pun! When a song/section of a piece of music ends with a dominant chord resolving to a tonic chord (if you’ve read a certain fic of mine you should know allll about dominant and tonic chords👀🤣), it’s called an authentic cadence! There are different kinds of cadences, and authentic ones are my favorite. One example of this is “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.” I also use this blog to be my authentic, fandom-loving self! So I like authentic cadences, and also, I’m Cadence and using this blog to be authentic! Woo! (And 18 is just my favorite number, lol) I’m glad I ended up choosing a name that doesn’t tie to a specific fandom becaaaaaause this ended up being a multi fandom blog!

Average amount of sleep: wellllll for the past week and a half I was sick so I was probably getting 9ish hours a night (because I would sleep in really late, lol). but NOW? In my immediate future? I suspect my average amount of sleep is going to go down because I’m really bad about staying up late even when I have to get up early😅. Hoping to be good about getting at least 7ish hours a night!

Lucky number: 18! But y’all probably already guessed that, lol.

Instruments: my voice, piano, ukulele, viola (but it’s been a HOT minute), aaaand i used to be able to play guitar but then I got a ukulele and forgot all the guitar chords. (I also dabble in songwriting! I primarily use voice and piano when writing music.)

What I’m wearing: my favorite sweatshirt (that was last night, rn I have on a tanktop), some leggings, and socks!

Dream job: I’m currently learning to be a teacher, and I LOVE teaching and working with kids so that is definitely a job I’m really excited about!!! I would also love to portray characters at Disney or something (well, maybe not at Disney because I hear they’re strict, but like....I want to be Rapunzel or Anna or something, that would be so fun). OR, I would LOVE to work in tv animation somehow, be it voice acting, writing scripts/music, and/or story boarding. basically if I could do what Dan and Swampy did for Phineas and Ferb/Milo Murphy’s Law, I would LOVE THAT. (Especially the writing music part. Getting to write music for established characters and get PAID for it would be SO COOL.!.!.!) Also I think it would be so fun to write Disney storybooks! Like, those books that are about Cinderella baking a cake or Ariel befriending a seahorse, stuff like that. Those brought me a ton of joy as a child!

Dream trip: I want to visit alllll the Disney parks someday😅. (Not right now because, ya know, Covid...but someday!)

last book: I got the book Unbirthday for Christmas! It’s basically Disney’s Alice in Wonderland, but if she’d never gone to wonderland and things went horribly wrong there. (I think, I’m not that far into it yet, lol)

Top 3 fictional universes I’d love to live in: 1. DANVILLE, PLS. Especially as a kid, I SO would’ve loved to hang out with Isabella and Phineas and the rest of the gang! Danville is so vibrant and unique and people are always randomly breaking into song there, that’s my kind of place! 2. Fairytopia (from the Barbie movies!) because I could be a fairy OR a mermaid OR BOTH and eat seeweed to breathe underwater even if I wasn’t a mermaid. Like, that’s the dream right there. (I’ve always loved mermaids and fairies, lol!) 3. Maybe San Fransokyo from Big Hero 6? All of the technology in that universe is really cool! And I would love to eat a noodle burger, lol .

I agree with the overly fetished views that fandom seems to have of gay men. As a gay man who’s really short, it’s soooo fuckin weird to have people assume I’m a bottom??? Like, I don’t even know you enough to disclose my sexual life and you’re making? weird? assumptions?? Also, there’s a certain fan artist who shan’t be named who makes a certain shorter character super feminine and it kills me every time

Urgh I’m sorry fandom makes you feel that way.

I’m gonna put this under a cut as I am about to rant about this topic because it is my biggest gripe within fandom. Don’t read on if you are here for fun happy positive things. Beware fair readers, there be strong potentially offensive opinions and plenty of fandom wank down below...

Fandom is unfortunately filled with CIS het women who like to stereotype and force men into their preconceived internalised misogynistic perceptions that to be short or slender means you are the weak dainty “girl” in the relationship and that’s why whichever character they deem the “girl” is also ALWAYS the “bottom”. It also is the same way fandom tends to muddy the waters between sexual positions top/bottom and BSDM terms dom/sub, where bottoms MUST be submissive as well. Half the time you will see posts talking about character traits which perhaps might indicate a submissive streak, and people will take that to mean that a character is a bottom, when the two do not correlate and it is highly problematic to assume that they do.

It’s so fucking problematic and I don’t think that these (mostly straight cis female) fans realise that by encouraging these harmful stereotypes, they are actually also being totally misogynistic and anti feminist. Women are not all bloody Anastasia Steel’s for christs sake (and don’t get me started on that god awful book/movie series). A women can be tall, broad, muscular, she can be dominant and strong and she can damn well top a man if she wants to.

When it comes to shipping male characters in gay/queer relationships, fandom MUST stop inflicting outdated heterosexual stereotypes on them. It seems like fans find a pairing they like (for instance Dean and Cas) and then immediately have to decide which one of them plays the female role. They then twist and change the characters, their traits, the way they look etc, so that one of them is basically a woman. That character then MUST be the submissive bottom and URGH I HATE IT.

(Making a quick note to say that whilst these particular common stereotypes within fandom are very much a problem, this is not to be confused in any way with fans taking their fave characters and headcanoning them as trans or nb or anything else genderwise which reflects an even more marginalised group and is usually a type of fanwork created by fans who are in fact trans or nb themselves.)

I’m not gonna comment on specific artists, but I tend to block urls of bloggers whose stuff I feel is particularly problematic and I also now have the WONDERFUL post blocker xkit extension OMG it is a GODSEND I highly recommend it. If you keep seeing a post on your dash because everyone is reblogging it even though it is super squicky to you (like for instance an obviously feminised Cas or Dean is squicky for me) you can use the extension to block that particular post so you never have to see it again regardless of how many of your mutuals reblog it. Its amazing!

I know that on this hellsite we like to encourage everyone to be as creative as possible and that everyone is valid and we don’t kinkshame and everything etc etc, and I’m all for that, whatever floats your boat and all that. But there is a line, and the line is when what you are doing becomes offensive to the marginalised groups you are supposedly supporting. Like I really don’t care if you are into tentacle sex or hell, even a furry, but I do care if the only way you can comfortably support a gay ship is to force either of the male characters into a “female” template and give them a “self lubricating asshole”. Like... come on. This is why I hate A/B/O. If you have to force gay men to fit a hetero model, you aren’t supporting gay men, you are fetishising them. You are also probably kinda homophobic.

What I really hate about this stuff is how it always seems to be the problematic stuff like this that blows up and becomes a trend and suddenly everyone is jumping on board and no one is given a second thought to how fucked up it is. WHY IS A/B/O EVEN A THING?!? It started as a J2 beastiality fic like WHY DID IT BECOME SO POPULAR?!

Why is Twist & Shout so bloody popular too? Its not even in character. They aren’t even Dean and Cas! Cas is a pale skinny little TWINK?! WHHHHYYYY? I don’t understand it if you ship Destiel wouldn’t you at least want the characters you are reading about to BE Dean and Cas?!? Don’t get me wrong I love AU fics, but I still want to be able to picture and hear Dean and Cas in the characters being described.

Why was it such a thing in the early seasons to make Cas a girl? (that’s hyperbole obviously but he might as well have been based on some of the early fanfics/fanart I’ve seen and immediately noped out of.) Misha Collins has never looked anything like that! He’s never been feminine looking and just because the dude can pull off a dress doesn’t mean you can force him to suddenly be the cute tiny pale perfect curvy pretty submissive beauty you can’t help but imagine Dean with. If you want that for Dean, ship him with Lisa. Stop forcing Cas into a model that just doesn’t make sense for the character.

This goes for Dean as well of course. The dude may have a thing for pink panties and ballet shoes and taylor swift sure, but can we not feminise him to the point he is unrecognisable as the character please?

I know that a lot of this has routes in YAOI. Something I have generally avoided because quite frankly it disgusts me. I find the whole thing just super uncomfortable and messed up and see it purely as a straight womans fetish. So much of fandom shipping behaviour comes from YAOI and its caused a lot of the toxicity we have seen over the years. I think it has got a lot better in recent years though because the queer community is slowly gaining a monopoly in fandom (imo) and as they (we, I should say, as my bisexual ass has quite clearly had enough of this) become more interested in shipping and fandom culture, we can also start educating those straight fans who might be willing to listen and learn. Maybe one day we can say goodbye to the problematic trends of today, or at least, keep them on the fringes of fandom as more and more people wake up to the fact that they are harmful.

And if that means I never have to look at an image of a short pale “pretty” Cas with womanly hips again, I’ll crack open the prosecco and consider it a win.

5 years of the PokémonJesus

Before the night comes to a close, I would like to personally reflect on today’s importance (thus the reason for the Takeover queue). It’s been 5 years since I officially became engaged with this fandom that has really became a weekly routine of mine when new episodes come out. This is really just to put my thoughts out there in the blog archive, so I would prefer if no one reblogs this. P J’s beginnings started all the way back with Serebii Forums...

2013-2014 (The Pokémon forums Era)

I have been lurking in the fandom as early as the Best Wishes days, and often visit sites like Serebii Forums or tumblr’s Pokémon anime tags around 2011. I usually talk Pokémon online when it comes to the games when battling or trading in certain chat rooms (was really active during the Gen. IV era of games), but never really talked about the anime with. I have been a spectator to the discussion while the BW saga was rolling a long, then I decided on September 26th 2013 (which was the airdate for the final BW! episode in Japan) to create a serebiiforums account under the username PokemonJesus123, just in time for the start of the XY series which I was mad hyped about! I WAS A FAN SINCE DAY 1...some y’all just tagged along in XY&Z NO LOYALTY xD . My serebii profile is still there actually, so you can try to find my old inactive page if you want lol (my avatar was me holding up my 3DS in a cringey way...looking back why tf did I take that photo lol delete later). Coming into 2014, I joined tumblr as well under the url name you see right before you. Never changed it, and probably never will. The origin of this name you ask? You’ll just have to ask me personally for that story 😉 I absolutely joined tumblr out of pure boredom to view and follow blogs I was a fan of. I had no intention of posting whatsoever. Oh, and I made a Twitter account under the P J name too! Follow ME :^)

2014-2015 (Thursday LIVE! tumblr era)

After a couple months of finally creating a tumblr account and actively posting on serebiiforums and bulbagarden, XY episode 50 (the episode where big lips Nini/Nene debuted) was the first EVER Pokémon anime episode I ever posted about in my blog. I was still new the #pokeani tag (funny story, I didn’t really knew what it meant back then besides to tag it lol), but I got as much as around 30-100 notes. Seeing those notes already got excited that it pushed me from making it a weekly thing since I had a livestream to watch it every Thursday night and screen-cap it. My goal from the very beginning was to try to be the first one to post about here, like what the Japanese fans do on Twitter under the #Anipoke tag. Of course, most of my notes came from either an AmourShipping post or a Serena post. I’m not going to lie, I was really a huge Serena fan when the series first started. I rambled a lot too getting hyped for Citron/Clemont episodes because he was probably my favorite character at the time xD

2015-2016 (A growing blog)

This was the era I started to do special long posts in celebration with Pokémon’s 20th anniversary. Around this period is where my blog was in a developing state getting like 2 or 3 followers every week. And trust me, there were A LOT of posts that I regret posting, but I learned to watch my words every week and say the right things (I really try not to trigger anyone here). I took a couple of weeks off when new episodes aired since I was really busy with college, or I wasn’t into XY filler episodes that much. Would usually tune in live when Team Flare was involved or anything with Squishy/Puni-chan (I absolutely ADORED Bonnie/Eureka in this arc), but I didn’t post that much on tumblr...unless if there was like an AmourShipping moment that happened xD. The hype for Gen. VII was already looming, and I kinda got bored from the anime A BIT. When Ash-Greninja came into the picture however, I got excited again! Then the Kalos League happened, and the anticipation of Ash’s journey hit a climax! We all know what happened, and the rest was history...

2016-2017 (GIFmaking era)

So the Sun & Moon anime happened late 2016, and the hype for a new series was within me again! This is when my blog REALLY started to boom, as well as the birth of my Pokémon Discord server PokéTōku. My notes were higher than over compared to what I posted from XY. One possible reason is that a lot of pokeani bloggers from back then weren’t really interested in Sun & Moon (probably because of the animation change), so I was one of few who still stayed for the ride and that really benefited my blog’s exposure. I absolutely loved Lillie’s character development, and I also did not expect myself to enjoy Lana/Suiren’s character so much! Brock & Misty’s was a huge highlight for me as well seeing my childhood come to a modern-day Pokémon series. I was surprised to have popular people reblog my stuff that destroys my notifications per second. I was even flattered when popular pokéblogs such as shelgon, corsolanite, chasekip, and a few others followed me. Back then I really wanted to get a lot of notes, but at this point I just wanted to be myself and post screen-caps that I feel like talking about. The series also motivated me to start making GIFs since I finally had access to Adobe Photoshop through my university’s application benefits. Later in 2017, I graduated from college and it gave me more time to improving my blog. Also, can you believe it took me 3 years to get 1,000 followers? If you asked me from day 1, I would have never expected to get that much since I had no idea about tumblr’s audience.

Everyone here knows that my blog doesn’t really follow “traditional” tumblr methods such as tags or making specific posts and what not (since I’m not really that into the tumblr culture lol...I’m just here for fun doing my own thing), but I hope I’ve brought something different to your dash experience 🙃

2017-2018 (Making friends)

From 1,000 to 2,500+ followers the next year. You’d be surprise how small that still is compared to the other popular Pokéblogs that joined tumblr later than me, but I’m still grateful for that number. My hype for movie 20 was crazy! I’d always make a post about it when a new trailer was out. But just like Sun & Moon, not everyone was looking forward to the AU it produced. The Let’s Go games shared the same fate as well since everyone didn’t want another Kanto, but I always defend the things that deserve a chance! I fairly enjoyed movie 20 though, and was the first movie that I posted screen-caps and GIFs for in this blog, even made an experience post about it watching it in the theaters! What’s MOST important to me during this time was actually interacting with some of my followers...or should I say friends now :) Out of the 5 years I’ve been here (not counting serebiiforum peeps I’ve known since 2013), I only recently talked to some of you around 2017. My interactions with people here have been awesome (for the most part at least lol) from sharing interests, geeking out over the anime, sending memes xD and concerns when P J isn’t feeling P J. You know who you are, and THANK YOU for cheering your boy up in times when I needed it despite not telling you about it <3 Going back to PokéAni hype, my next excitement attack was when they announced the Aether Foundation and Ultra Beasts were getting involved in the main story. It really makes up for no Alola movie...but hey we still got 1 year left, so maybe there’s hope?

Despite the brief breaks I took, P J’s activeness in the fandom has reached its highest when I managed the time to do scheduled posts and even started a few mini-blog series this year. Even during stressful times, I always make it an effort to find time and contribute to the fandom. I honestly don’t care if I get any asks because I know who the real homies are ◉‿◉つ A special shoutout as well to all the people that joined my Discord server through this website. Anyway this is just a summary of my journey here so far, and if you’d to hear a more in-depth story on some toxic things I’ve experienced in this fandom just message me. I personally don’t like venting out stuff in public because it just promotes more negativity, and I’m not about that. I will make a separate post on my feelings toward the schedule change maybe next week, and an appreciation post (5th tumblr blogaversary) for my specific followers January 2019. I am still preparing for that because there are so many people (even ones I don’t even talk to) I want to thank ❤ Moving forward into my 6th year, I probably won’t make another post like this anytime soon...but I am very hopeful for the future of the SM series and possible Gen. 8 anime late 2019. I also do plan on making some PokéAni-related stuff in my YouTube channel when the time is right, and have the resources to do projects. Keep your eyes out fam 👀LET’S F’N GO!

Name: Manon, but I’ve gone by the alias of Sae on the internet since I was about 12 or 13. It’s really stuck and caught on so much over the years that it’s as commonly used as Manon is, if not more (both online and offline). Age: 29.  Pronouns: She/her.  Sexuality: Hetero. Zodiac sign: Cancer.  Taken or single: Single.

Four Things About This Blog:

1. Still unsure of how this worked exactly, but I’d decided to make a blog for Jace before I’d ever read (or seen) anything about him directly. A friend of mine had been in the fandom and I’d heard about him through her, enough that I’d peeked at a few basic bits on the wiki. And then one morning I woke up with this intense yet unexplainable urge to make him, this character that I knew next to nothing about. I read the first three books within a week and then I decided to launch him. I’ve never had a muse arise to the occasion quite in this manner, but then again, isn't this Jace we’re talking about? Nothing about him follows the status quo.

2. If I’d picked up the books without ever having heard anything about any character in specific prior to reading, I would’ve still likely found myself drawn to Jace’s character— but I would’ve made a blog for Valentine instead. They both appeal to me for different reasons, but ultimately, I’m very glad that I made Jace and I don’t regret not having made a blog for Valentine for a single instant.

3. I’m an exceedingly opinionated person with very set norms/values and they definitely make their appearance within my OOC posts, and they’re not always popular opinions ‘round these here Tumblr parts by any means. However, I don’t let them influence my perspective when it comes to writing for Jace (or any of my muses). Of course, I may recognize some or many aspects, but I make it an effort and personal challenge to look at everything from as many angles as I can as to obtain the widest picture of any character’s behavior or any situation.

4. Despite them not being in full view as they used to be, my tags have been described as being the ‘arteries’ of my blog(s) and I couldn't possibly agree more. If you don’t read them, you’re easily missing out on 80/90% of my meta’ing. My posts tend to have some coherency to them, some logic, but in my tags you find my incoherency and that’s my heart and my passion. That’s where I’m most alive.

Three Mun Facts:

1. I recognize that I’m incredibly headstrong and it’s both my gift and curse. While it’s gotten me in the occasional trouble because I realize that I’m being too stubborn a bit too late, there have been and are a lot of moments where I’ve used it to my advantage and I profit from it immensely in numerous ways. So while I could condemn it as a flaw, it very much hits the extremes on both ends of the spectrum.

2. I’ve got fire for a heart, I’m not scared of the dark; you’ve never seen it look so easy. Okay, so two days ago, I had a day of massive cleaning. This always goes hand in hand with music playing, I sing and dance (of which I can only successfully do the latter). Youtube went through related videos, it somehow got to One Direction. I used to unfairly hate them on principle because I heard them everywhere and everyone loved them; in the same light, Harry Styles was always the one I disliked the most because he was everyone’s favorite. Since that day, I’ve listened to their non-Zayn stuff a fair bit and it’s catchy, I guess I’m a very late fan. All good. Nobody can drag me doooowwwwn.

3. A lot of my thick skin stems from being able to properly put the right weight to people’s words. And I'm able to do that because I value’s people’s actions infinitely more than I do their words. It’s so very easy to say or type ‘yes’ or ‘no’, but if your actions don’t reflect your state of mind or your statements, then I lose respect. We’re all guilty of falling short of this every now and again, myself included; we’re all human after all, but once or twice doesn’t equal constantly.

EXPERIENCE:

How’d you start: Tumblr back in August of 2012 is when I started in the world of RP’ing. I made Tatia Petrova from TVD (I went by the url herbloodlacedtheirwine). I never really dabbled much into the world of writing before that, except little snippets in early high school as to practice and try to further my English. Platforms you’ve used: Tumblr. Best experience: While the TMI/TSC fandom definitely has its bad apples and I’ve been in fandoms where things were consistently calmer, I do find my best experience to have been here because of specific individuals I’ve met while here. However, my Tumblr experience has overall been really good since my Ezio blog. I had a field day writing him and people seemed to really appreciate my input on his character. Beyond that, his blog was also from which I released my themes and I’ll forever remember all the positive feedback I've gotten on them. Despite this site not easily showing it, there are a lot of people with a heart of gold out there. Worst experience: I’ve never exactly found myself in a really bad situation that I can refer to it as the ‘worst’, as I tend to nip things in the bud but I’m also someone who mentally catalogs things quickly, it’s how I deal with things. That and awarding stuff the weight it deserves and not a shred more— numerous things that I use to generally avoid things from getting very bad or affecting me more than I want them to.

MUSE PREFERENCES:

Original or canon: Canon every time. Favourite face: Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Jamie Campbell Bower, Toby Regbo. Least favorite face: Actors or actresses that play the main protagonists in usually a show, as they tend to become over-used FCs.  Note: I have zero problem with these actresses or actors themselves, I just get tired of seeing everyone use them even outside of canon characters played by them. —To name a few examples in past and present: Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder, Emilia Clarke, Katherine McNamara and Dominic Sherwood.  Multi or single: Running a multi isn't something for me, but I don’t mind writing with them in whatsoever way. Kudos and respect to multi muse blogs for having the mind to be so organized, though. I couldn't do it.

WRITING PREFERENCES:

Plots or memes: Plots, although I enjoy responding to memes on Jace as crack and light type of threads so fit him quite well, they’re a nice change from the immense angst that can be done in threads. Best time to write: I used to think the night, but looking back at threads and timestamps; apparently some of my strongest writing was done in the afternoon or early evening. Problem is, I don’t always have time to write a lot during those times. An issue? Yes, yes it is. Do you like your muse(s):  I rarely make new muses, when I do, there’s a reason. So yes. How long (months/years?): For my current blogs? Jace’s blog was created in November 2017. Francis was made... July 2017 and Ezio in May of 2016. I’ve made no other muses since Ezio and any before him have been permanently archived. Fluff, angst or smut: Angst/fluff, I’ve no interest in smut as it’s written on Tumblr.

No, but unless you were ever in the Tales Series fandom around the time of all the Tales of Vesperia trials and tribulations you really don’t understand how even this (Namco going to every single length imaginable in an effort to avoid Discourse™ and please everyone) is hysterical to me.

Like, to bring you up to speed:

Tales of Vesperia is a game in the Tales Series that was originally developed for the Xbox 360. Microsoft’s game consoles have historically never sold well in Japan. There are a few different factors that go into this, but the long and short of it is that the Xbox family of game consoles has always suffered, sales-wise, in Japan, and in an effort to correct this Microsoft had a push in the late 2000s / early 2010s to get more Japanese RPGs on their consoles. Because of this, and because Namco liked to experiment with new non-Sony consoles by putting a Tales Series game on them before inevitably porting said game to a Playstation console with bonus features, Microsoft and Namco agreed to put a brand new Tales Series game on the Xbox 360 in an effort to boost sales of the 360 in Japan.

That game was Tales of Vesperia.

Now, you’ll notice that I had a little crossed out bit about Namco inevitably porting Tales Series games to Sony consoles even after originally developing them for Nintendo or Microsoft consoles. That is true. It happened with Tales of Symphonia (originally on the Gamecube, later ported to the PS2), Tales of Graces (originally on the Wii, later ported to the PS3), and so on and so forth. Games developed for Sony consoles generally weren’t ported (Tales of the Abyss, originally made for PS2 and later remade for 3DS, being an exception rather than the rule), but games developed for non-Sony consoles always were because Namco knew that the majority of the Tales Series fanbase in Japan owned Sony consoles. 

That said, the history gets a bit murky here; there’s a lot of hearsay, a lot of speculation. But the generally agreed upon series of events is that Namco knew ahead of time that they wanted to port Vesperia to PS3 after leaving it on Xbox 360 for a while. Many believe that Microsoft had a one year exclusivity contract, which is not unheard of in the industry, but it’s also not confirmed. Nonetheless, Namco had always planned to port Vesperia even if they had to wait a while, and most people agree that this was likely discussed with Sony . . . who then said that they wanted exclusive content in the PS3 version if Namco was going to port it to their system. Again, that’s hearsay; we don’t know for sure that Sony demanded some content be withheld from the 360 version to promote sales on the PS3, or if Namco decided to do that on their own to promote sales on the PS3. Nonetheless, what we do know is that content was withheld. There were a variety of things that were kept out of the 360 version that were later added to the PS3 version (and that are, it should be added, still on the disc; you can hack the 360 version to unlock the secondary Mystic Artes that were exclusives for the PS3 version, but you can’t access them through normal gameplay like you should be able to), but the most egregious was an entire character named Patty. Patty was added to the PS3 version, and while Discourse™ varies about how much she actually adds to the story, one thing we can all be sure of is that she was originally conceived in the 360 version as well. There numerous points to this, but one of the biggest is that you can find her hat in a lighthouse with the letters “Pa . . .” on it. Namco knew they planned to include her way back when they first made the game, but they just cut her out to save her for the PS3 version.

Anyway, so Namco wanted to port Vesperia to the PS3, and whether because Sony made them do it or because of their own volition, they removed a decent amount of content from the 360 version and withheld it to use in the PS3 version. And lo and behold, one year later, they did exactly that.

And the fandom went postal.

It should be noted that both Japanese fans and western fans were enraged by this. You see, it’s like I said before: The Xbox 360 was not popular in Japan, but the Tales Series was (or rather, is, I guess). As a result, there were quite a few Japanese fans who bought an Xbox 360 solely so they could play Tales of Vesperia, not knowing that Namco was going to turn around and port the game to the PS3---a console they already owned---a year later. As a result, when the PS3 port was announced (and when it was announced that it would have added content, including an entirely new character), the Japanese fans lost it. There were videos and pictures of Xbox 360s being smashed in the streets, and of people snapping their Tales of Vesperia game discs in half. While the fandom still undoubtedly loved the game (Yuri Lowell is such a popular character that he’s been removed from the popularity polls because he always wins every time without fail), they were furious about the fact that they bought an entire console for it, only to have that purchase be rendered moot a year later.

And the western fans?

Around the time that the PS3 version of Tales of Vesperia was announced, the Tales Series was not doing so well in the west. Again, many factors go into this, but the bottom line is that the Tales Series is far more niche in the west than it is in Japan, and as such Namco wasn’t seeing the sales numbers they wanted for it. So although they localized the 360 version of Tales of Vesperia, they decided to stop localizing Tales Series games after that. (Or maybe Dawn of the New World came after Vesperia; they were around the same time, so the finite details there don’t really matter.) As a result, the western fanbase was pissed. This wasn’t a matter of extra costumes or Mystic Artes; this was a matter of not being able to experience Patty’s role in the story, as well as how it would feel to have Flynn Scifo (Yuri’s rival) as a permanent member of the party. Keep in mind, Tales of Vesperia is a very popular entry in the western fanbase as well. The fact that they weren’t getting the . . . well, definitive edition enraged them quite a bit.

As did, of course, the fact that they weren’t getting any new Tales Series games at all, period.

As a result, while the Japanese fandom eventually got over the rage that Tales of Vesperia PS3 caused them, the western fandom . . . did not. Around 2009, 2010, the Tales Series fandom took to the Namco Facebook wall to begin petitioning them to localize Tales Series games again, figuring that if they showed enough fan demand, they could make it happen. Whether this campaign succeeded or not is up for debate. Some say that it had no impact, that Namco made their decision wholly independent of a fanbase spamming their Facebook wall every day. Others say it did help, because it showed that there was fan demand for the games, and therefore money waiting for Namco should they localize them. Nonetheless, one day things changed. And by “things changed,” I mean that the community manager, a man named Rich, announced that a new website was opening up called “A Tale of Two Richards,” and he invited fans---particularly Tales Series fans---to check it each and every day.

We knew what this meant. We knew that this meant they were announcing a game localization. And lo and behold, they were, but . . .

“A Tale of Two Richards” was a very simple website. Essentially, it consisted of one page with a distorted image made up of several different game logos. (IIRC, several other, non-Tales Series games were also announced via this site, but I could be wrong on that. Mostly I remember the Tales Series history portion fo it.) Each day the logo changed, becoming clearer, or having more distortion added to it, et cetera. The URL at the top of the screen also changed, reflecting a different fruit (which pointed to the characters (one of whom is named Richard) of Tales of Graces F, the game eventually announced for localization). But what threw the fandom into a cacophany was the fact that, one one of the days, it looked very much like the logo for Tales of Vesperia was thrown into the mishmash. And most notably, it was the logo used for the Playstation 3 version of the game, which the fandom had been begging for on Namco’s Facebook wall just as much as they were begging for Tales of Graces F.

And then . . . Vesperia PS3 was not announced for localization.

And once again, the fandom went postal.

I want to say this is the only time I can recall the Tales Series fandom ever behaving remotely as bad as certain other fandoms that I could name but won’t. Since everyone was posting on Namco’s Facebook wall anyway, this perceived “betrayal” led to the Vesperians (as we called them) spamming some pretty vile and horrible things, many of them directed at Rich (community manager) for including the Vesperia logo, while the rest of us told them to shut the hell up and behave themselves. Things did calm down eventually (also, I’m pretty sure you can’t post on Namco’s Facebook wall anymore, and gee, I wonder why---but even before that, Namco made an official Tales Series fanpage to try to push people over there instead), but for a while things were pretty bad, and honestly the sting never went away. When Xillia was announced for localization, people spammed that announcement post with “WHAT ABOUT VESPERIA PS3.” And the same goes for Xillia 2, and Zestiria, and probably Berseria, but I had dipped out by that time, so I can’t say for sure there.

The point is . . . for the longest time, Tales of Vesperia has been the biggest source of Discourse™ in the Tales Series fandom. First because it was on 360, which no one wanted; then because it was announced for PS3 with content purposefully restricted in the 360 version one year later; then because the PS3 version wasn’t localized; then because localization was teased but not granted, and so on and so forth. But with this announcement, it’s like Namco learned and they’ve taken every singel precaution they can think of to avoid another catastrophe. It’s on every available system from the outset. It has all the PS3 content. It has dual audio (this is a big thing in Tales Series fandom, since Tales Series fandom is full of weebs---and hush, don’t be offended, you know it’s true, search your hearts and know yourselves). It was announced at E3, which means we can be sure of a localization, and so on and so forth. They have gone out of their way to try and ensure that they’re not going to have another disaster on their hands. They learned from their mistakes. They studied their history and they learned. I’m proud of Namco, but at the same time I can’t help but laugh as I imagine a meeting at Namco HQ like, “Okay guys, it’s Vesperia’s tenth anniversary. How do we avoid causing Vesperia War 3 in the fandom?”

Well, either way, good job, Namco. I’m glad you learned from your mistakes. And congrats, Vesperians. While I would hate for anyone to take this as a sign of reward for bad behavior, you’re finally getting what you’ve wanted for all these years, and I can at least be happy for you for that.
