i think he'd be somewhat open-minded, but he'd have his strict no-nos. pop music being that, or anything on the radio, he tells you it's just propaganda from the 'system'. remember, this guy is an anarchist, plus so much more.

having grown up in england, london specifically, i think he'd be partial to uk hip hop, grime, garage, alt rock, alternative music, etc. anything that sparks a bit of controversy. anything from the streets, the people. plenty of those genres stem from rock'n'roll music anyway, so i wouldn't be surprised.

however.

you're laying in your room one night, it's dark outside, the night crawling in as a gentle breeze drifts through your open window. headphones plugged into your phone, you scrolled through a newly made playlist, brows furrowed in thought as you tried to remember anymore songs you wanted to add.

humming along to the tune echoing in the headset, you were absolutely zoned out. it wasn't until a large pair of hands grabbed your waist, did you crash back down to earth. ripping the headphones off your head, you jumped back in defense.

"what did i tell you about leaving your window open, y/n?" hobie scolded you, a playful smirk on his lips, standing up straight, looking down at you, "could've been any dickhead coming in here, y'know?"

"not just any dickhead can scale 7 floors and climb in through my window, hobie," you rolled your eyes, fixing the mess you made when you threw your headphones and phone on the bed.

"yeah," he leant down, until his face was but an inch from your own, "only the really bad ones can."

with that, and a devilish grin, he pressed his lips against yours, using his advantage to push you backwards onto the bed, climbing on, making himself comfortable on the mattress next to you, holding you close to him. your hands went to his chest, feeling it rise and fall under your touch.

"i missed you," he muttered between kisses, his piercing ice cold against your lips, sending chills down your spine.

"i missed you, too, hobie," you whispered back, welcoming his touch on your waist.

pulling back with a smirk, he reached for the phone in your hand, opening it up.

"what were you listening to so intensely?" he quizzed, but his question was instantly answered at the name of the playlist you had made.

to say he was stunned, was an understatement. this was new to him, no one had ever made him a specially made playlist before, no one had gone to the effort. his heart swelled. scrolling through, he saw an array of artists that he hadn't even heard of before, mixes of genres that he knew you loved.

"sorry, it's really silly," you dismissed, reaching for your phone at his blunt response, suddenly feeling a wave of insecurity.

his eyes snapped to yours, shocked at your reaction, "what? no, absolutely not."

though his stomach twisted slightly at the thought of listening to lana del rey? whoever that was, he wasn't sure, but the fact you listened to it, thought of him, and thought of him so much you made it into a playlist dedicated to him? well, he'd be an idiot to refuse that.

"i love it, darlin', thank you," his smile was soft, genuine, one you only see him give to you, which is why you loved it so dearly.

"baby, who's kendrick lamar?"

it was a late night, you were exhausted from working all day, and the 7 staircase climb wasn't ideal, now that the elevator in your block had stopped working. dumping all your stuff in the living room, quickly throwing on some clothes from the dryer and a quick bathroom visit, you nudged open the door to your bedroom.

you knew hobie was crashing at yours, it was more rare when he wasn't.

what you didn't expect was the sound of mellow, soft music coming from inside. continuing quietly, you peered around the door to see your boyfriend, barely under the covers, sound asleep on your bed. eyes scanning the room, you saw his phone, open on the mattress beside him.

silently stepping over, your heart melted at what you saw on his phone screen. the playlist you had made him, shuffled, playing through the speakers on his phone.

chest warm and full of adoration for this man, you leant down to place a kiss on his temple, smiling at the way his body reacted to your touch.

he was an angel, of sorts.

though you complained about it at first, hobie would definitely need music to fall asleep to. sometimes he was so tired that the second his head hit the pillows and his arms wrapped themselves around you, he was asleep. but mainly, he played music from the speakers in either of your rooms.

the only issue with this, however, is that his music was never stereotypical sleeping music.

whilst only on a low volume, just something to keep his mind from fuzzing too much as he tried to sleep, you weren't a stranger to falling asleep to the likes of ramones, dead kennedys, motörhead, sex pistols, etc.

he loved you for it though, beyond grateful with your patience with him.

IMO the biggest sign of the shittiness of Miquella's writing is the fact that his actions between the Caelid War and Mohg's death are so inconsistent and unexplained that half of the "lore fandom" still believes he's a selfish power-hungry godhood seeker even though he explicitly has to abandon his fears and doubts to go on that path, his own mind describes godhood as eternal torment, Ymir and Trina both describe him as making a terrible sacrifice out of guilt, and he sounds absolutely terrified of his inevitable godhood in the final cutscene where he's kneeling in resignation (literally stuttering and baby-talking in Japanese and sounding like he's going to cry in the English voice acting). There are three entire characters who exist for the near sole purpose of saying "Miquella really doesn't want to do this but is resigned to having to to atone for his mother, making a noble but misguided sacrifice" and it still didn't drown out the obvious questions like "wait so what was the vow?", "what was the timeline and reasoning for Mohg's kidnapping, and was that his or Mohg's idea?", and "why didn't he tell his sister and her army anything and leave them to rot in a dead tree and blow themselves up?". One of the most popular interpretations is that he really really just wanted Radahn's bussy (probably because "Radahn is my consort" is literally all he says when he's actually on-screen).

Honestly people praising Miquella's writing in the DLC (especially anything having to do with Mohg and Radahn) feels like gaslighting. This is easily noticeable when you notice that the people praising its "brilliance" have completely contradictory ideas of what actually happened or what the story was trying to say. I've heard everything from "Miquella is tragically noble but misguided" to "Miquella is mentally handicapped" to "Miquella is a victim of fate who is cursed to fail no matter what he does" to "Miquella was an evil scheming mastermind whose nobility was a carefully crafted facade" to "Miquella is a dumb, impulsive, spoiled little brat and cautionary tale against nepo babies", and all of these are supposed to be Genius Writing[TM] despite all these directions being so underbaked that people can think his story is literally the opposite of any of the above…

it also killed the fan interpretation. i used to really really like the idea of it being a misunderstanding where mohg kidnaps miquella for his own dynasty and malenia attacks caelid thinking he stole miquella and you cant even argue that i just "wanted my own au to be canon" no. i just wanted it to make sense 🙏

also the "character existing for the sole purpose of X" in the case with the DLC being just to say something about miquella is so fucking dumb. i get fromsoftware never had very in depth characters but its getting far too obvious to the point its comical;

SOTE also does screw up the entire timeline because the writers didn't know their own lore as proven by me many times on this trashy account whoops

also I agree on the "glazing miquellas writing" part because if you can take so many directions with a character that contradict each other, thats not even interpretion anymore that's straight up having your fans make the character for you 😭

I know you're writing a fic with Twice is in (and also actually appreciate his character), so do you got ideas, rules whatever, on how to write his dialog? Ll the fics ive read never feels right unless it's straight from the source material 😭

Hey! So, I've definitely played around with this in writing. Let me show some examples and word vomit about Twice. I will say that while I often return to the manga and observe how he talks, I also have developed LOTs of head-canons, so much of this is my own ideas/fanon. When I wrote You in 2020, it was very much an experimental fic, stream of consciousness kind of fic. And I encourage people to play around if they are doing something like solely focusing on Jin. In this case I essentially wrote it in Second person, to emphasize the idea of a fractured mind/depersonalization or the feeling as if "I'm not the real one" that Twice had. Here's how I showcased the split:

This is how I described Jin's initial "split" by the way. Note there's actually THREE different ones - I have a personal theory there's actually three personalities, the dominant Jin who is incredibly traumatized and slightly regressing in maturity, the older, quieter maturer personality who shows up only when we see into his thoughts, who seems pensive and contemplative (most of 115 is his narration) and kind of gives Twice's manga international narration a film-noir like quality, and the vocal "negative" voice that I guess either contradicts voice 1 or functions like an id to the ego.

Before anyone chimes in with "FREUDIAN PSYCHOANALYTIC THEORY IS TRASH AND DEBUNK-", yes, I know, but I find the idea of splitting the mind like this useful for literature, specifically, not real life. And I suspect a lot of writers do as well, so the idea of a "split" mind where a voice voices the things no one should want to say or think as Horikoshi has created here works well in that framework. Hence, when I write the split in Jin's mind, I use it as a way for me to figure how what's with his mind.

One of the biggest issues is that Jin's issues are very much pop-culture/fantasy mental illness because no disorder fits him well. For one thing, Jin's trauma is also a neurological one because he clearly had brain damage from the whole experience that cause his scar. And then it's like Horikoshi decided to take elements of schizoaffective psychosis, tourette's, BPD, DID, and OCD and PTSD and throw in "actual force blunt force brain damage" into the loop. That's not to say Twice's struggles aren't realistic/relatable - they totally are, but whatever he has isn't exactly an accurate depiction of anything out there (especially since it's so quirk-based). Personally, tailoring it to fit something neatly, I think, would do a big disservice to his character so I don't strive for that sort of realism and just work with what Horikoshi outlines for us.

Anyway, that is to say that often when I try to depict mental illness in writing, especially from the perspective of the ill person, I try to incorporate elements of disorder into the writing itself stylistically (I sometimes do this with writing Hawks as well). A lot of people just only strictly stick to this past-tense (or present) third person limited way of writing, and I think there's fun in throwing that out and using characters like Twice as reasons to do it. Or just playing around with formatting.

Anyway, this is how I try to depict it from a Third Person Limited perspective in Irreversible.

So first off, I distinguish between the spoken voices Jin has by bolding the contradictory voice. Internally, I depict intrusive thoughts by keeping it bolding, putting in parenthesis, and then justifying the text to the right. It breaks up the paragraph and creates the "element of disorder" I spoke about earlier. Here's what that can look like at it's most disordered, where there's essentially a mental conversation written out.

There's also a clear difference in spoken vs internal because while internally the voice addresses Jin himself to create an element of insecurity (questioning if he even deserves Toga's kindness), it's only in speech that he'll contradict Jin after he says something. This doesn't always happen, and I don't think every sentence needs it. Jin has moments in-manga where he doesn't speak like this and I also think it correlates with emotional state (interestingly a really upset Twice can be more "together").

But it's not as simple as "Jin says something, bold immediately contradicts it." That would make it boring to both read and write. My suggestion to have an actual reaction by a Jin to the bolded words - because it happens in canon (sometimes he tries to stop himself from talking further).

In this sentence, I make Jin immediately refute the previous sentence. It's not a full on back and forth, but it does show that he's aware the other voice is saying things and what it is saying. Lastly, this is more me on how to actually make it matter besides keeping it accurate to canon characterization. First, Jin is funny. Naturally he's funny and very blunt, but his illness is also used by Horikoshi for tension relief and to kill the seriousness or somber mood the LoV scenes can evolve into. Do not be afraid to use this for humor because as a character, Horikoshi DOES do this HOWEVER, this is not all Jin is, and when showing his internal life, there's far more seriousness to it all. But if you just want to write Jin instead of focusing on him, I think acknowledging he has a (wacky, immature and slapstick-y) sense of humor and in turn can be a funny character is not a bad thing. He lends himself well to physical comedy so don't be afraid of writing him doing weird things or making funny gestures.

Two, make the words count. At the end of the day, you're writing a story. You are not only conveying personality through these words, you are hopefully moving plot forward, or using the space you have carefully. Do not be afraid to have the contradictory voice say something poignant, something no one else would say, or ominous that can be used as foreshadowing for later parts of your story. Remember, these are characters that are meant to tell stories so use them.

Like the Underline series, Constellations, or your fanfic, etc.? I always think it’s interesting the difference between authors favorite parts vs readers.

(On a completely separate note, I saw a post of a fancy… coffee table? That was see glass on top and you could put crystals or collectibles or really whatever you wanted in it, but it was also essentially a big drawer that you could pull stuff out of. ANYWAY I just randomly thought of SiA Augus and I can picture him displaying all his homemade sex toys in there, just, in the living room. He would be so proud, and now I can’t get that picture out of my head. Mosk would be scandalized 😭)

I actually work so hard on the writing now I can't reread as often as I used to, which I recognised about a year ago and worked to change because I feel like rereading makes me a better writer (this is hard to explain, but I see my weaknesses and strengths better once I put some more distance between myself and a story).

I go back and reread certain stories more than others, regardless of when I finished them, and they are:

I actually struggle to reread certain stories, otherwise, and I'm working out why that is. Game Theory is tough to return to because I've been slowly working on making that fully original so every time I look at it, all I see is the burden of work I have not yet done.

I reread all the Underline stories, just not as much as Red.

I otherwise reread pretty actively when I'm writing unfinished serials because sometimes two-three years can go by and if I'm not rereading I won't be remembering what I put in place years ago! I don't write chapter plans until the very end of a serial (and sometimes not even then) so I don't have a compass telling me what I've said or where to go beyond memory and rereading.

It often just really depends on what I'm going through that year!! Certain periods in my life if there's a lot of health stuff, or a lot of loneliness, I'll gravitate towards different stories because the nature of the comfort changes. I sometimes see an 'author's favourite' series on some stories but I don't know if I could do that because it's always changing.

This is a cool headcanon, so as not to contradict it, I'm gonna put my response behind a read more so you don't have to!

Augus in Smoke in Autumn (and actually in the canon too) is very compartmentalised and private about his kink practices. So while he has stuff within reach (though he did plan everything he had in that storage space next to the couch, including it being there in the first place), he's too private to just...display things like that in places that colleagues etc. would be walking through.

Like you have the dudebros who straight up have illustrations of pin ups on their wall and then you have Augus who wouldn't do that, but would have a display case of sex toys in his bedroom. Or would have lubricant on hand in the lounge, but hidden away.

The "hidden away" part is very important for Augus. If he wants to sit in the lounge and watch TV, he doesn't want to see his sex toys through a coffee table. If he wants to have sex in the lounge with sex toys, he will move them into the lounge, and then clean up afterwards like none of it was ever there.

I feel like he's very precise and specific in that way. There are kinky homes where it feels like everywhere you look it's NSFW and confrontational, and then you have the folks where you'd never know unless you understood why someone might have a four poster bed and hard points in their ceiling in the bedroom and possibly in the lounge.

Augus is the latter. He's not showy, in that way. I like to imagine his house is very 'exactly as I want it.'

If anything, he likes that newcomers / the boys he picks up can't tell what he's into until he specifically chooses to reveal his sex toy workshop, his bedroom, or he surprises them with something. He likes having ultimate control over that exposure.

That being said, somewhere out there is an Augus who also really likes the shock value of having his sex toys right where everyone can see them :D

Team Bruno fr, I think I was sold pretty quickly and he only got better and better for me haha-

It’s pretty funny because if I’m watching anything with someone and they see me taking notes they’re usually a bit confused but curious about what I might be writing down haha. Usually it’s never anything that important to the story (unless it’s some major detail I don’t wanna forget) and it’s just me just taking notes about traits about the characters I like.

Here, I’m happy to share a couple of my silly notes! I think this shows a pretty accurate variety of the stuff I was noting:

How it started😭😭: “Ok wow Bruno’s little partners are completely insane.

This guy in blue is super superstitious

Fugo acts all calm but he has QUITE a temper

Little guy is just learning. And also incredibly angry.

I wrote out the bit of backstory they revealed about his childhood, which is one thing, but as I was scrolling through my notes looking for interesting examples I noticed I even wrote down a note about how Bruno weighed a little bit more than Prosciutto, I guess I just found that interesting lol.

And I found a special fondness for his place in the other team member’s backstories, but specifically Narancia’s. Bruno’s a specific character type I’ve always admired. I know I won’t be the best at explaining it but I loved that part about how he yelled at Narancia about joining the mafia, but he wasn’t really angry and was just trying to protect him from a life he might regret. One of my favorite scenes for sure. I love that kinda thing.

AND the way his face softened when Narancia swam after them, he was so. Happy. Please. Let Bruno be happy more often-

And I lost it at the “Arrivederci,” scene during the Grateful Dead arc, it was actually so cool and I feel like just watching that scene raised my own coolness by 5%.

Ok trying not to ramble too much but I especially appreciated his reaction to Abbacchio’s death. Watching the leader character having to be strong for the team, but inwardly it’s hurting them so badly-

And to end it on a lighter note, even before I had started jjba I always had a fondness for Bruno’s design since I considered it super iconic and cool. It was neat to finally get to actually see him since he was one of the few Jojo characters I actually knew by name before watching.

And of course the occasional: wow Bruno is so hot when he *insert various hot Bruno moments here*

Fell so hard for him, wow. I do enjoy a few Jojo characters, my other really big one being Rohan, but like. If I had to pick one to actually be with how could I Not pick Bruno-

On the topic of Bruno’s role in Narancia’s backstory—I’m going to recommend you read Purple Haze Feedback. (Here’s a link to the translated story!) It’s a novel that takes place after the events of Golden Wind. The story follows Fugo as he attempts to redeem himself in Giorno’s eyes. The best part is that PHF expands on everyone’s backstory—especially for Narancia, Bruno, and of most of all, Fugo.

PHF is not written by Araki, but there’s original illustrations from him within the novel. So is it canon? Eh—it’s semi-canon. Because this was written well before the anime came out, there are some minor contradictions to the anime’s version of the story. PHF lines up fine with the manga. …So I guess you can choose if it’s canon or not. (I like to pretend it is.)

PHF isn’t very long. I read it straight through in about 4 hours. (I could NOT put it down.)

Anyway!

You know what’s funny? I also adored Bruno’s design before actually watching part 5. And then I watched it and the same shit happened to me. We’re absolutely twinning in this scenario. 😩

How do you organize your lore? You seem to be really knowledgeable about all the religious mythology and I love all that stuff and learning about it but whenever I try I end up getting in a research spiral and just end up overwhelmed and confused. How have you learned and kept it all straight?

I've been interested in theology for a long time. Especially the parts that are similar between different religions, and how in the end all of them tell a story.

I wanted to know more about the theological aspect of religion since I read "The Divine Comedy" by Dante Alighieri. I think it infected my brain in the best way possible lol

So, to keep it organized, I try to stay on track of a number of sources that have similar approaches, that helps me to not get overwhelmed with too much information, or information that contradicts itself. Derek, i get it. They got wind of him turning Alpha mode and biting teenagers left and right without care n making his own army of deranged angst wolf teens with questionable morals (+ a deranged post-burnt uncle)

Stiles, on the other hand? Bro could've had his death story earlier if he wasn't friends with Scott. He got targeted because he's friend with Scott the lone wolf who defied his alpha(s). He's also alive because of Scott's weird tendency to befriend enemies. The reason Scott became a werewolf at the first place is because, canonically, Stiles doesn't give a damn about "killer on the loose, might show body later ttyl" shenanigans 😭

In this claim, I was referring mostly to the period of time between Season 2 and Season 3 (September 2012 to June 2013) and the Tumblr meta and AO3 speculative fiction that was produced then. There is plenty of content where the creator said "this is how I think Season 3 will go" and it has the Alpha Pack focused on Stiles.

But this was no surprise to me, after the fact. During every hiatus (until 6B and the movie) fandom content was filled with straight-up fantasizing about how the next season was going to be Stiles's season, by which they meant that the show would make him its incontrovertible focus. And when it came to 6B and the movie, when that option was no longer on the table, suddenly the show that they had spent so much time writing meta and stories about turned into, to paraphrase a vast majority of fandom, a sh*tshow.

Think about the contradiction there: the show became terrible and unworthy of their time only when it finally became impossible to imagine it being ultimately about a white male character.

But you're right, there was simply no indication that Stiles was destined for greatness in the first two seasons, though it was not because he was inferior to anyone. He had opportunities to go to the forefront and he chose not to. In Code Breaker (1x12), in Ice Pick (2x02), in Raving (2x08), in Battlefield (2x11), and in Master Plan (2x12), he had opportunities to take on the role of lead protagonist, to seize the narrative, and the writers had him make the very deliberate decision to remain where he was. This is not a negative criticism of the character. Stiles may have been written as insecure but he was also written as deliberate. He defined his own role in the first two seasons, the same way Scott did, and he never decided to do what was necessary to become the lead protagonist. He was never going to abandon his friends, he was going to use the talents he possessed, but he didn't want to transform himself in order to help others, the way Scott chose to do. Anyone who watched the show understood exactly why Stiles chose that.

Just as we understand that it is Scott's choice to become something other than he wanted to be for the good of others, made after experiencing the terrors of Season 1 and manifesting it through his decisions during Season 2, that makes him the target of the Alpha Pack in Season 3. The writers clearly intended for him to demonstrate something extraordinary, and Stiles, for all his cleverness, didn't. This was constantly displayed in the narrative and in acting choices, again and again and again.

So where did this idea that the show would eventually turn to Stiles for its lead protagonist come from? Well, if you've followed me for any length of time, you already know the answer I am going to give you. It's the same reason that a significant part of the fandom invests, with laser-like focus, in Stiles's dead mother, in Stiles's barely-mentioned ADHD, in Stiles's supposed super-intelligence, in his possession by the nogitsune, in the "chemistry" but not the content of his interactions with Derek as the only things worth paying attention to in the story. It's the same reason that the fandom disregards, often coupled with vicious dishonesty, Scott's strained relationship with his father, Scott's established disability, the way his heroism impacts his education, the sustained horror of Scott's repeated physical and mental violations, and the heart-felt content of his developing relationship with Derek. It is this reason that their reaction to the show is absolute hatred of a protagonist of color and the weird, bizarre, and twisted mutation of a perfectly fine white male character into a spectral avatar of entitled fandom resentment. (What else could produce the amount of fury we see because a 31-year-old Scott doesn't drive a 46-year-old Jeep?)

Eugene being the Lost Prince of the totally cool not mary sue kingdom was a dumb choice like what what what what what.

Contradicting my last statement to say that Eugene should have had the moon imagery to match Rapunzel's sun imagery. Also Eugene should have been the one to betray them instead of Cassandra, it would have been way more interesting and kept to Rapunzel and Eugene being the main characters/focus of the show.

Stalyan and Cass is the most interesting Cass ship and I don't think they even have a single scene together 😭😭.

So is Madoka actually happy, not just content, as the Law of Cycles? Because as I gather there's a lot of material strongly suggesting she just straight up isn't.

Director Shinbo has said something to the effect of the outcome of the TV series, "a human becoming a god" might be too heavy a fate for a girl in middle school to bear, the lyrics of Mata Ashita (the end song for the first 2 episode) might be... somewhat telling, becoming the LoC is directly called a fate worse than death in the original series, it's been strongly implied in various side materials (and directly by the MagiReco game apparently) that the LoC isn't actually much of an afterlife, more like a long peaceful sleep like some interpretations of the Buddhist concept of Nirvana, and Madoka herself doesn't actually have regular contact with the girls in her care outside of missions and such, and of course the old concept movie had the "what is happiness" thing about how God is denied the simple pleasures of life.

She might be watching over everyone she cares about but that isn't really a... relationship if her friends and family that aren't magical girls simply don't know she exists.

well thats a good question! because i don't think there is an incredibly definitive canonical answer. not a simple solid yes or no anyway.

one thing i did before writing "be not afraid" (which i assume is what ur here from?) was watch a video of ultimate madoka's quotes from magia record to get a feel for how she spoke in that form. one thing she stated repeatedly was that she absolutely did not regret her decision, she was happy with it. but being happy with her decision does not necessarily translate to her being happy in general. in fact one particularly heartbreaking line was about how she could see her brother drawing by himself and was sorry that she couldn't play with him.

so the argument that madoka is satisfied with her wish but it regardless comes at the expense of her happiness in almost the same way that devil homura exists is a very interesting thought.

I think because in canon these concepts are so immensely complex but our knowledge about how exactly they exist is somewhat vague, there are lots of different ways u can interpret it.

My personal depiction (which i fully admit to containing plenty of speculation) is this:

Madoka is absolutely lonely and not always happy as the loc. but she isn't in a constant state of happiness or sadness anymore than when she is a human. the thing about madoka kaname is that her happiness throughout the series is dependent on how much she's HELPING OTHERS. of course she becomes god as a middle schooler human girl, but in becoming the loc, she becomes something other than human. being in that state of nirvana, in that state of otherness, i can't imagine that the feelings and thoughts of this immense concept she becomes can translate directly into human ideas of happiness or sadness, i can't imagine emotions being completely definitive in a being of such immense power with infinite facets. she is in a constant state of helping people tho, and the human madoka that is left must be happy, not just content, about that. She is aware of everyone she loves, she can see them at all times and watch over them, and i think a contradiction occurs here where she is glad she can watch over them but at the same time there must be a part of her that misses them.

i know this is all very abstract. but put in simpler terms madoka is the embodiment of hope while she is in the form of the loc. i imagine she must feel hopeful and if she is constantly hopeful and purposeful then that has to prelude to happiness in an overall sense too despite everything else

so my final answer as to whether madoka is happy as the loc is: it's... complicated😭

GOd you’re so right about the whole Armand/Lestat thing. I hadn’t been able to put my finger on WHY it bothered me but I’ve noticed how it’s all of a sudden trendy and cool in some sections of the fandom 👀 to mercilessly clown Armand for being down for Lestat so bad while getting rejected time and time again and while YES, that’s basically what happened, it’s also SO much more than that and it’s so fascinating and complex and they’re ultimately so full of feelings for each other and the way it gets lost in the discourse kills me 😭

Honestly, it's like the only one who doesn't know Lestat loves Armand is... Armand.

Lestat tells it to the reader twice in TVL alone, before he leaves Paris and then again when Armand comes to see him in New Orleans. This man has known he loved Armand since he was twenty-two years old.

I just feel like you might miss a lot of the nuance, and really the overall beauty of the tale, when you decide things straight-up don't exist because it doesn't fit into your shippy worldview. There's fanon, and there's canon. Fanon doesn't cancel out canon or vice versa. There's stuff we do for fun and stuff we present as fact to others in discourse.

It feels like a much more recent trend imo, this trying to workshop VC to fit into a Twilight/CW mold. And it just doesn't work because the text contradicts that directly. VC was never a love story between two people and I think that's part of what makes it so unique.

Ultimately, my belief is that people are welcome to do whatever they want in fandom as long as it's not hurting real life people and this is definitely not - I just don't see the point here I guess! But your milage may vary and all that. IDK.

thinking about it randomly and i rlly liked the hermatrix plotline but i wish they hadntve gone the extra step to imply the other hermits wake up after s8. cause like.... its barely 2 lines and a quick visual of them shuffling around in their pods, but it still kind of puts the whole plot at odds with everyone elses endings, right? you cant fully follow the ren canon without entirely ignoring some of the other hermits canons, cause they straight up contradict eachother. ren says every hermit travelled to s9 on the hermethius, false says she flew in on a giant eagle, etc etc.

if the 2-3 lines stating the hermits woke up werent there itd be easy to accept the hermatrix canon and also just say "well the other hermits were still in the simulation while ren and doc woke up, so the other hermits got to experience whatever their individual inbetween status was (cleo in the end, boatem in the void, etc)" and for the most part thats the reality i go with, but it just,,, bothers me that u have to ignore part of the ren canon to do it 😭
