i was actually considering making sevika a fisher instead of a miner in the childhood friends fic! i think she would just love it-- any kind of fishing.

zaun is surrounded by water, and it seems like a majority of the food eaten in the under city is some kind of seafood! i think it would make sense that at some point, sevika learned how to fish-- even if it was just to feed herself.

(i like to think that as a kid, she was out avoiding her dad at home, loitering around the docks and looking for trouble to get in. one of the old fisher ladies noticed her, and offered to take her out on the water for a day of fishing in exchange for dinner. sevika begrudgingly agrees, and has to force herself to keep up her grumpy teenage emo act when she finally gets on the water and realizes how nice and peaceful and fun fishing is. and after that, it becomes a daily thing.)

i think in a modern au she's just a hobby fisher. she goes out to local ponds or streams, sets up a little chair, and holds her pole in her lap for the afternoon, waiting for a bite, enjoying the fresh air, drinking a cold beer and smoking a joint.

on occasion, she'll go out with vander on his boat-- the two of them spend hours laughing and chatting and sitting quietly on the water, then they come home with enough food for a big fish fry in vander's back yard.

i could also see her doing it professionally, though-- sevika all dressed up in her rubber boots and life jacket, hauling in nets of fish or cages of crabs and lobster, haggling prices with the local markets-- i think she'd love it.

idk something about the open water, the strength it takes to pull in a catch, the satisfaction of catching her own dinner-- it just seems like something she'd love!!

imagine getting a text from her when she's out on the water, a picture of some random fish, followed by a paragraph of her gushing about what a rare kind of fish it is, and how it's so strange that she caught it this season, and isn't it so beautiful, and that she gave it a sardine to eat before letting it go again.

sevika refuses to gloat about her big catches though, she gets all shy and giggly when she pulls in a giant tuna or catfish. you usually have to threaten her to get a good picture of her holding up her catch, but she obliges in the end.

you don't show the pictures to many people, you keep them to yourself for when you really need a pick me up, and need to see your wife's sweet little proud smile.

you do buy your wife a bunch of fishing gifts, though. 'women love me, fish fear me' hats, one of those singing animatronic fish to hang on the wall, books about the fish in your local waters, new equipment-- she adores all of it. it's so cute.

I will say: knowing more about an actor doesn't change my perception of their work; but I know a lot of people-- older generation, mostly-- who do think the way that he does. To them, the more they know, the more they can't "forget" the actor/actress in a role.

Maybe it's an older generation thing? A thought process left over from the world of 90s-and-before-media, before the advent of smartphones? Or maybe it's a broad audience thing: the type where people aren't so invested in someone's career or anyone in particular, and just want to go to the movies on a Friday-- the normies that fund most of the ticket sales. I do know I've been hearing a lot of sentiment lately from others who are over-saturated with celebrities talking about their opinions rather than marketing the product... maybe that's the modern day equivalent? Maybe that's what he was trying to articulate. (Sometimes he communicates in half measures when trying to work something out.) I think so, anyway.

But today's landscape is also so different: people are selling themselves-- branding, as he called it-- their personalities to sell their products. It just is that way. Hopefully he doesn't feel the pressure to do so, as well (I don't think he does, or would care. But it's a thought.) Maybe there's pressure there, but there's also freedom (or can be): the landscape for his professional fears have changed... but they've also changed in ways that are, to him, a net negative. So. XD

When I read your ask, I realized that most people I know - regardless of age - don't care about actors' private lives 😂 that's slightly different though than not wanting to know as it might skew the viewing perception.

I guess it makes sense. DD was born in the 60s when Hollywood's star system was breaking apart. Back then the actors were brands too - though different than today. The studios gave them new names more often than not and a personality. They needed them to be certain types to lure the audience in.

The history of the star system is really interesting. Back in the very early days, actors didn't have a name. Audiences didn't know who these people were - but they wanted to know. Same with the first magazines. They'd be about movies originally, but people wanted to know about the actors instead. That's not at all a new thing.

So I don't think it has anything to do with social media and smartphones and more like you said with the broad audience. Before social media, tabloids were HUGE. That was the only way to glimpse more into the private life of your star. I just don't think any of it is new. The means are just different.

There's middle ground between putting your whole life out there and being private. It's not just DD, but one thing I've noticed with celebrities saying they're private is that usually, they have no problems talking about their kids or their family - people, weirdly enough, who didn't choose to be part of this life. Then when it's about their romantic life they're like, oh no, I'm private. That seems like a cop-out.

This is already half an essay but don't get me started on celebrities becoming a brand these days. Why do celebrities need to sell us products? That is a trend I really hate. Maybe I'm too old to get it and thankful for every celebrity who doesn't feel the need to create a drink/food/candle/skin product.

Fic-to-Art #45: Happy Family

In this house we cope with hard times in fics by thinking of better days and brighter futures!

... By which I mean, the prompt for September was "hope" and to my utter surprise, my Patrons chose Happy Family, my story for Underneath Starlit Skies, as what gives them the most hope in these trying times :'D and to be fair, this particular story is about as opposite to what's going on in Gladiator atm as can be, so... makes sense :'D

This was a hilarious story to write and revisit, always makes me smile. It's another rare situation where I actually feel like I mostly managed to translate my vision of this scene, in my head, to what I wound up drawing... I really wanted to make sure all characters felt as active as could be (except for Mai, who didn't really care about how the game turned out or if Azula burned down a net, she was just getting justice for her son xD), and getting the sunset lighting right was also a big priority.

For anyone who didn't read this chapter (if you're in need of a pick-me-up over Gladiator, I absolutely recommend it haha), at this point, Azula, Sokka, Zuko and Katara were teamed up against Mari, Zi (Zuko and Suki's daughters), Hotaru (Sokka and Azula's daughter) and Mai in a kuai ball match, while the rest of the audience sat on the sidelines, enjoying the show. As Mai's joining the team to substitute for her son, Yuudai, resulted in a near-upset, Sokka and Azula decided they needed to get serious to clinch their victory and... well. I suppose the rest is history xD

It was a little bit insane to finish this in like... 3 days. But. Yeah. I did that. I should've posted earlier but I was nightshading and glazing and whatnot, I got busier than intended... but here it is! Hope you guys like it!

IWTV S2 Ep1 Musings - Daciana: History through Visual Context in Ploiești, Romania

I immediately fell in love with The Vampire Daciana & her Romanian castle, and wanted to know more about it all.

We already know how much the set/costume designers on IWTV looooove attention to detail; they tell whole stories just through architecture, furniture, clothes, etc. So I was like OK, AMC, I see you; lemme start doing some reading up on Romania, so I can try to figure out what might be going on with Daciana. (Warning: I know eff all about Romania or Eastern Europe.)

ROMANIA

Map of Romania. Ploiești's the dot just under Muntenia, north of Bucharest, the capital. Ploiești's part of Wallachia, the IRL kingdom of Vlad Tepes (aka Dracula). Louis & Claudia went there in the 1940s, so I hope this map is accurate enough. (There's this map, but I dunno the date.)

DACIANA

The most obvious thing about her is that she's not dressed in the typical traditional Romanian folk clothing I see all over Google, full of white-red-blue/black palettes.

Daciana's not following traditional 19th/20th-century Romanian nationalist images. Her green/brown palette & silhouette is telling, as she lacks the puffy white blouses & dark skirts. (Despite her name, I'm ruling out her being Dacian (X X)--you think you're FUNNY, AMC! But IDK about Cezare Romulo (X X); might do a Pt2!)

Sleeves

First thing's her trailing slashed open sleeves, which were screaming Medieval! at me. Here's some 15th century Renaissance examples, but with surcoats, which is different, but the sleeves reminded me of hers so IDFK.

We could chalk this up to Daciana's design as just generic "medieval" fairytale stuff and keep it moving. But to give her a fair shake, I looked at local examples for anything similar that's more recent.

Traditional clothing from Huedin, Romania (north Transylvania), (X X).

Traditional clothing from Cluj, Romania (north Transylvania).

Keep Transylvanian/Muntenian cross-cultural contacts in mind when we get to Daciana's castle, cuz it's important!

Wrt rarer non-puffy sleeves, the square cut (light blue) seems to be more prevalent in Wallachia/Moldavia/Bessarabia (southern & eastern Romania); while the rectangular cut (dark green) is all over Romania, but definitely has a concentration in Wallachia & Moldavia.

And this makes sense, cuz the style seems to also be prevalent in 19th - 20th century Bulgaria, just south of Wallachia. Hrm....

Daciana's sleeves hang very long--the only example of super long sleeves I could find is a 19th century one at the Met (C.I.47.3.4a–d). The only example of slashed sleeves I could find is in this museum exhibit at Bran Castle (yes, THE Bran Castle--I'll get to it in a minute!)

Belt, Bodice, & Fabric

Daciana's belt is so plain compared to everything else. Is it supposed to be a leather Romanian chimir (worn by mountain/forest folk)? Those are only worn by men though? Or it depends? Or is it a just a plain cloth belt? It's reminding me of these examples (X X):

I wish I could see more of Daciana's bodice, if there's any particular kind of cut or patterns. Is the diamond netted/knotted/roped pattern on her arms significant? Her fabric is interesting, too:

What's this embroidery? Brocade? (Byzantine-Renaissance?) Damask? (c. 14th-16th century?) Lace? Something else? My brain wants to assume it's imported? Meaning: she's hella rich. Cuz like, the traditional Romanian blouse & skirt used to belong solely to peasants, b4 19th-20th century aristocrats started wearing it, too.

IDKY--more reading led me to a whole bunch of complicated stuff, that can probably be simplified by just saying: The Ottomans. XD

The pre-19th century Romanian aristocracy wore super opulent clothes, inspired by not just the Ottomans (X), but also the Byzantine Greeks (via 18th century Romanian Phanariote boyars (X X X)), etc. But aside from the hanging sleeves, Daciana's dress doesn't really resemble any of these foreign examples. However, it does track with my theory that Daciana predates the 19th-century Romanian nationalist/traditional clothes that became so iconic later on.

Like Louis & Claudia did, let's follow Daciana to her castle! ^0^

DACIANA'S CASTLE

I NEED to know if AMC filmed on location in Romania, or if Daciana's castle is just a studio set/green screen.

The interior's nowhere near what I expected, considering Daciana's haggard appearance. It's really nice--clean & tidy. No spiderwebs, no chipped plaster/paint, not even any bloodstains--but I've mentioned before that I think it's indicating that Daciana's a mother who takes better care of her home (and "child") than herself.

Archway

The first thing is the arch when they first come in (noticeable mostly cuz of how Louis had to bend down to get in, he's so tall).

These types of doors/arches are called "shouldered arches," dating from the Medieval-Gothic periods, which Europeans adapted from Islamic architecture during the medieval Crusades. (Examples inc. Lainici Monastery in Wallachia, and the Academy of Art in Cluj-Napoca (north Transylvania).)

The left pic's Biertan Fortified Church, in Sibiu (south Transylvania). (Another door.) The right pic's Bran Castle, in Brasov (south Transylvania). (Another door.) (Vlad Tepes/Dracula historically never owned this castle, but pop culture says otherwise.) Both places were built by the German/Saxon Transylvanians in the 14th-16th centuries; which might help date Daciana's castle, if not Daciana herself? (The Saxon Transylvanians were in Wallachia, too.)

Wall Ornamentation

The last thing I'll discuss is the wall ornamentation/decoration:

The painted floral trim everywhere instantly reminded me of The Witcher 3, as found in Hungarian, Polish, Ukranian etc buildings. Apparently the designs are all related to fertility, growth/luck, and the Tree of Life. Walls (X X X) and doors (X X) were painted. You can see northern Romanian painted ornamentation in Suceava (Bukovina).

There's painted wall designs in southern Romania, too.

"The research of the popular interior in the Argeş and Muscel areas leads to the determination, along with a local specificity, and some Transylvanian influences, in the contact areas between southern Transylvania and northern Muntenia. In the researched areas, two lines of development of the popular interior can be observed, one relatively simple and the other complex. If the first is the prerogative of a typical Subcarpathian interior, the second represents a distinctly Transylvanian form, which was also imposed due to the presence of the Transylvanian population in the south of the Carpathians, settled in numerous villages." -- (Google Translated from Arta populară din zonele Argeș și Muscel, 1967)

(The website RomaniaDacia has A LOT to say about Transylvania, and the impact of the Germans, Saxons, Hungarians, etc on Wallachia & the rest of Romania.)

Sure enough, I was finding way more carved ornamentation (X X X X X X) than painted ones.

But I wonder if that's why a lot of southern traditional Romanian interiors I've been finding have totally plain whitewashed walls, too, with no painted ornaments, just tapestries (X X). I did find Romanian interior floral wall painted trims (X), but not nearly as much.

Cuz actually, the closest comparanda I was finding for Daciana was Northern European rosemaling (X X), which is also giving me medieval vibes (X); specifically: trims on illuminated manuscripts like the Book of Hours (X X X)--which we know from Lestat in S01E06.

And we do see some Romanian medieval fresco borders & frescoes that had been plastered over & whitewashed, in Biertan's 15th century churches, and in 13th-15th century Darjiu (Transylvania).

So, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of Romanian buildings (especially castles with whitewashed plastered walls) were formerly painted similar to Daciana's. Unfortunately, I just can't find an example or figure out what AMC might've been inspired by--Romania has hundreds of castles & churches.

So, I'm tapping out--this is the most I could find so far. U_U

Results? Inconclusive! 😭 My Google-fu has failed me, LOL!

I still have no idea what time period Daciana could be from. We could go several routes:

Go by her name, and say she's ooooold AF, an actual Dacian. She's just been collating Eastern European culture as she ages, but stopped at some point (as her mind deteriorated)

She's medieval, somewhere roundabouts the 14th-16th century (making her ~500 years old, the same age as Armand--but she's weaker (as I've theorized b4), which is why she was able to burn herself up.)

Settle on her being a local Wallachian from Southern Romania, likely pre-19th century / pre-industrial early-modern Europe

Handwave everything aside as Renn-Faire fairytale fantasy; let the tale seduce you~!

OR, we can just bully AMC until they give us an extended BTS look at how Daciana was conceptualized, telling us all the tea about her! 😈

I love that Ronty knew so much about Frank even tho Frank couldn't talk. They were both disabled, and loved each other and helped each other. I like to think of a universe where they got Ronty repaired so he could hold Frank. He's still pretty scruffy and beat up, but that doesn't matter with the love of his life in his arms.

And Frank is so small! Ronty can just pick him up and cradle him and hold him, and Frank would just let him. I still like to think that Ronty would still have mobility issues, maybe due to the fixed body being made out of out-of-date parts. Loose joints, aches, stability issues, and Frank would help support him when his legs started shaking due to the strain because oughhh.

In my hunger games au Ronty is an older tribute who's in the same district as Frank, and he teaches her things that will help her survive the games. He knows that he won't survive, despite his skill and strength, he's disabled. He's practically blind and half lame in one leg. But Frank is young, and strong, and has a fighting chance. They fall in love during the reaping, due to being in the same district it just made sense to form an alliance, and their personalities reflect each other in a way that feels like home.

She's quiet, she doesn't say much, but she's attentive. And witty and smart and clever and she makes him want to *try*. To try to survive. To make it out with her. Even if he knows that's impossible. She doesn't balk away from his bulk, from his scars, she looks at him with so much adoration he doesn't know what to do with himself.

And when he sees her at the gala before the games, his heart breaks. She's so delicate, so small, she has a chance but it's small. He'll do anything in his power to make sure she gets out unharmed, knowing that it will cost him his life. But that's then. And this is now. And right now she's hovering by him, wanting to ask but she knows he doesn't dance. He's told her as much.

They don't have a lot of time left together.

She's so fragile, so flighty. The skirt of her dress fans out around her as he spins her on the polished marble, away from prying eyes. She reminds him of a bird that he used to see while out in the early morning, soft down and bright vivid eyes. Watching him as he hauled up the morning nets. Her heart is racing against his as he pulls her close, staring up at him with that same adoration.

They don't have a lot of time left together.

This is a fact that haunts him. He adores her. One of them will not survive. He wants to run away with her. Away from this madness.

Both of them will probably die.

He can't stand that thought. He will die, but she must live. For the life ahead of her. The life without him.

But they have tonight.

It's not enough. It will never be enough. Time is slipping out of their fingers every day closer to the games, every day closer to their execution put on with flashing lights and cameras. A spectacle of suffrage.

But she's in his arms right now.

He picks her up. She lets him, arms dangling over his thick shoulders, muscular and scarred from years working the lines in the bay. He's talking, confessing, all his worries and fears spilling forth, all his love and affection. He wants, his desires, what he would do differently if they had been in a different situation. How scared he is of losing her. How he knows that he will have to lose her.

She listens, always so quiet. Watching and listening. Soft, kind, loving. She's everything that he could never ask for, and everything that he knows he couldn't stand losing.

But they have tonight.

After reading @sunnyrealist's post I was inspired to think about possible Boggart and Patronus options for our boy:

- either losing his sister/seeing her dying/dead or seeing Solomon scolding and yelling at him or ending up all alone (so many dark options for that poor boy, my god! And I'm kind of glad we didn't get to see such a scene... then again, he gets pretty close to seeing his biggest fears come true, yet another reason to GIVE THIS BOY A HUG GODDAMNIT!) On a lighter note: falling into the lake? He mentions that in those unused voicelines...

(A note on Boggarts: what a weird concept imo! I mean, sure, kids usually have easier fears like they're afraid of spiders or bugs or certain animals or their grandma or teachers, i.e. people, and then casting Riddikulus on those things and turning them into something funny would be as easy, but what if you are afraid of heights or losing family members? Would you just feel the fear instead of seeing it? And how would you make that funny? Imagine a safety net below you? Realizing your dead loved one is just sleeping? All a little abstract (and quite macabre to have the whole class witness your lowest point like that). Makes sense to teach that to younger kids whose fears are easier to repel I guess.)

- that is a really tough one considering there is not much happiness in his life, at least before he meets MC, so I'd say either meeting or becoming friends with MC or probably seeing that memory with them where he sees Isidora getting rid of her father's pain (what a flare of hope for him that must have been!). Looking at the time before meeting MC, it could also be him becoming the Crossed Wands champion or something other Hogwarts related, maybe hanging out with Anne and Ominis in the Undercroft, but I'd wager that wouldn't be nearly powerful enough to repel a Dementor since those memories would be tainted now.

AU where I swap Ollie and Javi’s intros in Dino Fury: Headcanons

This obviously means Javi becomes blue ranger and Ollie becomes black ranger. But uh. Let’s avoid that thought for the moment.

Javi is the one who gets stuck in Amelia's ghost net.

His character is still into music and was actually riding his bike to run away from his dad, the warden, who disapproves of his music in the forest.

He’s wearing the poncho.

When Amelia tells him she thought he was a ghost, he doesn't belittle her interests, instead, agrees to go along, something along the lines of, "whoa! You're hunting ghosts?? Can I join??"

Izzy is still Javi’s sister, and Zayto’s role is the same.

Add some sibling angst in eps 3/4 where Javi is a ranger but has to hide it from Izzy.

Ollie, on the other hand, is Izzy’s college friend/senior.

Additional plot of Javi having to hide he’s a ranger from his sister for 4 episodes. Fun!

In episode 4, it’s Ollie’s mom who is having an interview with Jane about that orb thingie, and he's just waiting outside her office, when Amelia along with the Javi and Zayto comes up to talk to Jane about the job thing.

When Javi, Amelia and Zayto meet Ollie, he still outrightly calls out Amelia’s ghost hunting obsession as bullshit and Javi backs Amelia up when Ollie taunts her on it.

Javi applies for the Buzzblast job— gets it by chipping into Amelia’s story on DinoHenge.

Zayto also applied for it but withdrew after he met Dr. Akana who offered him an internship.

They’re still desk mates + now Javi regularly accompanied her on ghost hunting expeditions.

Ollie still annoys Amelia every now and then but it’s not that much of an issue because :D they’re not the main romance of the season TYSM.

The Amelia and Javi romance progresses much like Tyler and Shelby’s. And Amelia does help him hide his musical equipment from his dad. EVERYTHING that Dino fury season 1 promised us for Javelia but didn’t follow up on :(

Not much changes after this. Ollie is still the techie guy, which is fun for once if it’s the black ranger??

Javi just permanently has a crush on Amelia. He’s just simping for her no matter what :3

AND Amelia confides in Javi about her parents situation just before season 1 finale and he tells her “we’ll find them. One day. I promise you.” Because he definitely has her trust and she feels safe confiding in him. She breaks down and they have a little moment.

In season two, Ollie and Amelia do have a “reconciliation” episode as they did in canon— and you just have Javi going green with envy in the background with Izzy going “it’s okay bro it’s okay.”

And at the end of that episode we see Javi working on a new song. When asked what it is, he just smiles and doesn’t respond.

The massage scene stays the same btw.

The Spotlight episode, the reason Javi isn’t able to write a brand new song for the competition but on Zayto’s insistence, he brings out one incomplete song, which he gives to Zayto for review, who goes “dude this is heartbreaking! I love it!” But in the end they decide to not use another song and go with the remix version of spotlight like they did in series.

Episode 13 is Javi and Amelia getting together. But instead of Javi arguing with Amelia like ollie did, he actually writes her a song and at the last moment chickens out to give it to her. He tosses it in trash along with the flowers and goes away embarrassed, Amelia wondering what’s up with him.

Izzy figured out the feelings her brother had for Amelia and decides to talk to Amelia. The remainder of the plot for the episode stays the same because haaaahahh it would’ve definitely made more sense if it had been like this XD

The episode ends in Javi and Amelia reconciling and Amelia asking Javi to play her the song for her, “because I love to hear your voice.”

The plot with Amelia’s parents and the voids continues as it does.

Episode 16-17 are connected. When they make wishes, in episode 16, most of it follows normally until the very end when Javi’s wish comes true, and so does everyone else’s but Amelia’s doesn’t, and she feels the resentment. Ollie tries to keep her spirits up, but Javi sees it from stage realising she has no interest in his concert, and he feels hurt.

This follows into the episode 17 where instead of the entire Ollie-Amelia-Dr. Akana drama, we’ve got Ollie and Aiyon drama where Aiyon goes to Japan because Ollie and his mom are having sone issues and blah blah I didn’t think too much about this, but Javi and Amelia’s bickering continues because he’s annoyed that she doesn’t value him and she’s already pissed off from the events of the last episode.

This episode ofc served as their “problem after they got together” episode, so I think this would be a nice direction to take it.

They finally come to a compromise by the end of it, after talking and communicating 🫶🏻 and they realise they’ve started to love each other very much. And Javi apologies for not being with her when he needed and Amelia apologises for acting selfishly.

Remainder of the episodes follow the same way~

I just feel like a LOT of things would’ve made more sense if the show was written like this >.<

A "little" review!

Here is my own opinion on Trolls Band Together, enjoy :D :

I really don't like the French translation that my fellow Canadians uses for movies... and I certainly HATED the voices they gave to Poppy and Branch and all of the characters tbh... every time, the characters are completely devoid of emotions and are just talking because they need to with an exaggerated European French accent that we Canadians don't have... and I hate it... BUT me and my big Sister still couldn't keep ourselves from watching the movie and here is my review...

I FREAKING LOVED THAT MOVIE TO DEATH!!!

Ignoring the REALLY bad voices and bad translation, the first few minutes were really fun and I understand even more why Branch ended up loosing his colors and becoming the Branch we've seen in the first movie. Loosing his Bros was a bad enough situation, but loosing the last Troll he had was the last straw. Also, on Grandma's card that I've seen on the net, her fun fact now makes so much sense xD

I was wondering why it said Babies in plural when I thought Branch was the only baby she had to take care of, but now it makes sense xD I also wanna know why she didn't stop the Bros from leaving though...

The next scene I though was so cute, Gristle and Bridget getting married was amazing, especially when she got to "roll" to him in her call back dress from the first movie! It was adorable! John Dory immediately recognizing branch for me was really touching, although I do think Branch had a point when he tried to confront his Bro. I know what it feels like to be left behind and it's hard to forgive this gesture. It's also hard to forgive someone who tried to control you everyday of your life, then abandoning you the moment they loose their control...

But I do think John might not have realized it at the time! Or at least I hope so?

Anyway, Velvet and Veneer were so funny and they make me wonder what kind of other Creatures lives in the Trolls Universe, it's also nice to see that technology exists there too! I wonder how they got Floyd into that diamond prison? If only the perfect family harmony can shatter diamond, why not unscrew the top of the bottle? xD Jk

My sister laughed when she saw Spruce/Bruce, because he used to be the most muscular now he's big(It does make sense though as to why he would be, he's cute nonetheless) xD But we both loved his new look as well as Brandi and their kids, they were really cute! I also like their species, they looked like puppets, they were really adorable! Also, I'm wondering the exact same thing as John, How are they making this work? I'm genuinely curious xD

Crimp surprised me, tbh. What is she, though? It's not really important. Anyway, she's one of my favorite, hands down! Velvet looked like she was gradually growing mad with power, a little cliche, but still entertaining! Veneer did look like he didn't like what was going on as well as loving his fame and riches, very conflicted. And I love how Floyd was so sarcastic to him like Branch was with Poppy in the first movie xD

The too much hussle part made my brain melt, it almost felt like an acid trip like the Jazz hypno from World Tour. So, I don't have anything else to say about that. It was funny though!

I LOVE VIVA!! She's just like Poppy but hard on caffeine and I love it xD

Also, I called it: Clay is my all time favorite taking Trollex's place as #1!!! I could talk about him for hours, but I'll spare you by only saying that I think he's the cutest and funniest(Even if he doesn't want to be funny anymore)! xD

HE'S JUST SO FREAKING CUTE I LOVE HIM AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, I gotta say that Tiny wasn't annoying(surprisingly) in this movie. I don't like Tiny and I don't like that DreamWorks are trying to add him everywhere, but he was just fine in this movie and he even made me laugh when they were climbing up the walls with their gummy gloves xD

The car chase was fun, the songs were amazing and the message was great as well, I like how John realized his mistakes and puts Branch in charge at the end. Also....

I REALLY THOUGHT BRANCH WAS GONNA PROPOSE, WHY DREAMWORKS?!???!??!?!?!

Anyway, this was my review, I'll definitely buy the movie when it comes out on DVD and watch it until my Boyfriend gets sick of it and tells me to stop xD If you want to see it, please do, I thought it was way better that the first two by a landslide! Though I still love the first two xD

I feel like unless Rigel communicates it to him, his traveler wouldn’t realize he’s actually interested in physical contact. Which makes him being adorably jealous even cuter because I feel like Rigel would have the classic eclipse issue of emotional constipation XD

Rigel will definitely engage and maybe tell traveler afterwards that he was not a fan of that interaction. That he was basically terrified for him. Plus traveler was ignoring him. Definitely showing off his jelly side.

But that's what the cluster's for! Multiple Eclipse issues!

Rigel has a bunch of emotional locks because he just doesn't express anything. Even in the cluster he's pretty tied off emotionally. His little fake safety net does nothing for him and in reality he knows it. But it feels safe, So he continues with it.

Antares has multiple issues stringing from PTSD. Whether it be to just isolate himself because of stuff he did before. Or a very drowning sense of guilt. Plus his very strong fear of a lot of fucking things.

Cygnus It's better off emotionally, but not really. He really holds onto grudges and opinions. He isn't really ready to change any of those opinions anytime soon. As he himself is afraid of being proven wrong.

And then there's Algol. Who not only feels like he's not a person. But also is struggling with the reality that every eclipse he knows has failed and been outcast. He is a nobody who is destined to fail by just what he's seen. Attempting to be snappy to cover it up, But in reality is eternally crying about how his life is nothing.

And then we have Black Star. We all know Blackstar.

Rakha can feel the sussur tree long before she sees it.

It is one of the strangest things she has encountered in all the time she can remember, and that's saying something. It is a hole in the Weave. A dead zone. A blank spot. Stepping into its vicinity feels like her arm going to sleep, but all over, a strange tingling numbness as her awareness of the fabric of magic becomes fragmented.

"What is that?" she mutters, visibly unsettled.

(A/N: I really wanted this to be a sorcerer-specific comment to tie in with the above, but looking at the dialog files, it isn't; just a generic player comment. There are lines for some of the origin characters as well, though, and adorably, while most of them are complaints about how weird the tree feels and its magical effects, Karlach's is different: "That tree - I didn't know the Underdark could be so beautiful." <3 )

Getting closer to the thing does not improve the experience. At first she hopes killing the monsters around it might ease the feeling, but it does not. After some investigation, she discovers that there's a very specific cause - the flowers growing across the tree's bark.

As she steps near one of them, the staticky feeling grows abruptly in strength and her head swims.

Narrator: A chill runs through you. Your magic - the fire that burns within - is... fading.

She is actually surprised at the feeling of intense panic that overwhelms her in this moment. She had not realized, until it is abruptly stripped from her, how acutely dependent she has been on the calming sense of her connection to the Weave, on her awareness of its ebbs and flows, on its solid presence. It is a constant, a safety net, a source of beauty. It is her identity, the only one she has besides the constant voice that yearns for blood and death.

Fight it. You need your magic. You need it!

Narrator: Your magic erupts, violent and powerful, but is snuffed out by the sussur flower - vanishing like embers in the wind.

(A/N: Another cutscene I haven't seen before! And this one is sorcerer-specific.

I'm a bit annoyed because this conversation seems to be bugged. According to the parsed dialogue files, the companions have some lines here that are approval-dependent - i.e. their responses are different based on whether you have high or low approval with them. However, despite Wyll and Lae'zel both having "Exceptional" approval with Rakha, they both gave their low approval lines.

I'm pissed off bc one of the intended high-approval lines from Lae'zel would have made for a nice moment of them mending fences a bit after the breakdown of things around the creche, but with the low-approval line she just still sounds pissed off. >.< So... I'm going to just blatantly ignore what happens in the game and use the line from the parsed files instead. Because it's my story and I do what I want. XD)

Her eyes squeeze shut, her breath starting to come faster in quick violent jerks. Her pulse is hammering in her ears-- she wants to rage, to lash out, but none of her power is there to support her and no flame bursts around her hands.

She feels lost.

"Something's wrong," Lae'zel says in a low voice, her eyse fixed on the back of Rakha's head. "Your manner betrays you. What curse has this plant wrought?"

It is the first concern she has expressed for Rakha in some time - since before the creche. Her voice is tight, strained.

And even after everything that threatened to tear their friendship apart, even after everything Rakha thought she learned from Ethel about the dangers of trust... she feels comforted, hearing her first friend's voice in her ear as she comes unmoored from the world.

"It's the flower," she says. Her voice sounds shaky and distant. "My magic is gone..."

A slight pause. Then Lae'zel answers, "Then I shall make up for your shortcomings. As I have all along."

For a moment, Rakha is consumed by a flare of powerless rage... but then the truth trickles in through the panic. Lae'zel is joking, and it's a mannerism that comes as unreadily to her as it does to Rakha herself - an awkward attempt to calm Rakha's fear, to reassure her.

Rakha lets out a hoarse, harsh bark of a laugh, shakes her head once sharply. "Please..." she mutters. "I'm... every bit the combatant you claim to be..."

There's a moment of silence. "Well done," Lae'zel says quietly. "You're beginning to trust your own convictions." She grips Rakha's arm and gives her a sharp tug back out of the flower's circle of influence. "Now come - and be heedful. The shadows are watching."

The staticky buzz fades; Rakha feels the power returning into her hands, into her mind, the familiar presence of the Weave. She sucks in a hard breath, shuddering with relief.

She turns, a brief touch of gratitude on her lips, ready to be spoken - but Lae'zel has already turned away, too quickly, unwilling to meet Rakha's eyes, and silence falls back between them again.

But the words already spoken still linger. You are beginning to trust your own convictions. Rakha thinks this over as they dart away from the tree's influence. What conviction does Lae'zel mean?

Confidence, perhaps. Confidence in her own ability to fight - or to make the right decisions. If she's honest, the latter is something she still feels she lacks... especially in light of the business with the kuo-toa and, more relevantly, the creche. But Lae'zel - in spite of the explosive end of both encounters and, for that matter, their own relationship - feels she ought to trust herself.

Trusting herself feels as dangerous as trusting anyone else. But deep down, in spite of everything that has happened... she still finds she values Lae'zel's counsel. And the words settle in at the back of her mind, another piece in her conception of the world.

Anywho, San! Oh Mountain boy- I’m excited to finally do this after the grand reveal from his B-Day live. I know I’m not exactly striking when the iron’s hot on this content, but Lord knows I’ve never been with the times. To the reading!

Raise your hand if you were personally victimized by San’s surprise Virgo Rising? *raises hand*. I always felt that San gave big Leo energy (and this thought will get justified pretty quickly), but I can always vibe with Virgo being in the charts of idols. I also have a slight bias towards Virgos as a whole, so good for you, San. You cracked my top 3. His Virgo Rising is being ruled by a Mercury in Leo. See? Told you it’d be quick.  Because that Mercury is sitting in the 12th house, it keeps him from being too domineering of a communicator. Very similar to Hongjoong’s Mercury in the 12th, though Hongjoong’s is in Sagittarius, which suffers the placement even more so by being mutable, whereas San’s Leo in the 12th fights more for attention.

So, interestingly, the only Cardinal energy we get from San is his Sun in Cancer. Sun in Cancer is notably not a super great placement for it, as the moon brings quite a moodiness to the Sun’s light.San does however have two things combatting this. 1) It’s in the 11th house. The sun here makes one seem more gregarious and outstanding. In other words, this is one of his fan fairy placements.  2) His Sun is ruled by a Moon in Gemini. Once again, a bit of a conflicted placement for a sign, but in this case the Gemini is helping logic out what’s going on with his Sun in Cancer emotionally. Inversely this can negatively cause him to overcorrect his moodiness into overthinking if he’s not careful. That moon is also conjunct his midheaven in Gemini causing him to be quite emotionally vested in his work. This is also a good placement for parents.

I will take any opportunity to reference this

Speaking of fairy placements, the other very strong one is his Taurus Jupiter in the 9th house. Jupiter is a benefic, bringing luck and growth wherever it sits. Taurus ruled by Venus, also a benefic planet. 9th house is travel, foreign cultures, languages, etc. So put those in a shaker and voila. Lots of luck and growth with the international fans xD We do see a Saturn in Taurus tempering this a bit, as Saturn brings restriction, but overall, I’d count this as a net positive. (Mingi also shares this Jupiter/Saturn in Taurus combo so we’ll get to see this play out differently later.) Both of these placements are being ruled by San’s Venus in Leo, which thrives off of the attention that 9th house is giving him. This placement of Venus in the 12th house can also be quite sensitive? Not the greatest pairing with that 

Finally, Ateez and the Scorpio gang strikes again with Mars in Scorpio in the 3rd house. A fighting placement already, but between this and the Leo Mercury, when this boy truly gets into a disagreement, his words will absolutely be aimed to kill. Personally, I think he taps a lot of his demon line energy from this placement.

Overall, if I had to pick a word for San’s chart, it would be dynamic. And dynamic charts are what make for interesting celebrities. I barely even touched on the aspects in his chart (his Mercury, Jupiter, and Mars are all square/opposed), and we still got a fun look at all of the interesting things going on. That being said, feel free to comment on something I missed in the askbox :)

The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan, Episode 15 - His Uncertainty

Looks like things are wrapping up now. Two episodes left to the end.

We have arrived at Yuki's equivalent to Eternal Eight. Fortunately, Haruhi does not have the ability to loop time again so Escapist Yuki probably won't be exposed to hundreds of years of repeated time.

At this point, I'm not even surprised that Tsuruya's family owns multiple homes. Crane Shop is basically the Walmart of Haruhi's Japan.

What.

Why.

The prank murder's job was to entertain Haruhi and keep her from inadvertently conjuring a real murder mystery. Those guys weren't even relatives of Itsuki's; They were his colleagues from his Esper organization.

Why would this ever have happened in Yuki World? Cute continuity reference but this makes absolutely no sense.

Kyon's sister trying to pack herself away in his bag is a repeat gag....

Y'know, I was concerned when we spent so much time repeating various beats from the Tanabata episode but this episode's doing a bit of recycling too. Did the show run out of ideas?

I'm annoyed that Yuki's better at playing ball than I am. She should not be this good.

It's a depth perception thing. I have no depth perception. I'm like 80% convinced it's because I spent all of my formative years staring at 2D screens and it killed my ability to perceive in three dimensions.

So I can't play games like this because a ball in the air moving towards me is stationary to my eyes. I have no idea when it's actually going to reach me. It's terrifying.

I like how Mikuru was scared out of her mind a moment ago but now she clarifies that there are no supernatural spookers involved in the Test of Courage. Everyone's just like,

Group: Level with us, Mikuru. Will there be ghosties? Mikuru: Worse. There will be Tsuruya.

Which is a valid concern.

Even Lawful Menace Ryoko is out here chomping down like a normal person but there's those two in the back being all Elegant Noblewoman about it. I guess Crane Shop customs take dining etiquette very seriously.

It kinda feels like they had too many episodes left over after the Disappearance arc and needed something to pad the runtime. Like, the main goal here seems to be to wrap up the Yuki/Kyon/Factory Settings love triangle but they're stretching it out by Playing The Hits.

This one in particular, however, is hilarious. Like. The cicada hunt is sending me. Have we not seen enough versions of Eternal Eight already? XD Imagine thinking we needed a ninth take on any part of that event sequence.

Ryoko's swinging her net and getting to participate in the cicada hunt for the first time but I'm over here having PTSD flashbacks.

Ryoko leaping at the first chance she gets to not participate in whatever fresh hell Tsuruya has prepared for the group. And she did it by exploiting inarguable responsibility towards the child in her custody.

You win this round, Lawful Menace.

Because Tay sways between the things he was forced to learn, the smiles, the way how he carries himself, the way he speaks and interacts with people, all this got build on the raw, unpolished knowledge that he has no choice but to master all those things if he wants to survive in this world.

He cuts the net Korn sets up, not to fight him head-on but to avoid getting caught in it as well. He simply survives. Inside the conference rooms, where words wield the power and outside in the bars, where a knife is loosely carried and a gun only a few seconds away.

Tay being torn apart by his actions versus his heart and emotions is amazing and felt painfull good to read! And it kicks up my brain... I think unlike the other (traumatised™️) kids in the show, I don't think he is used to putting all his emotions aside... especially after I read your snippet, holy... I mean, with Kinn it is pretty obvious that he pushes his emotions aside and is done with it. But Tay?

Im mean, you already showed with your Ep7 reference that he is able to pull Kinn out of it. That doesn't sound like a man who is used to seeing his feelings as unworthy or useless.

I think Tay loves with a feral snarl and a gentle hug. He loves desperately and truly. He knows how to keep his friends safe, how to talk with them about feelings. He isn't someone who pushes everything away knowingly.

So maybe the time where all his training, his watching and analyzing turns into a blind "act", he looses control, he doesn't see himself as the person he knows anymore. And an overthinking, overanalyzing guy meets moral and emotional distress of his own making, ouuu... could turn out pretty dark for a hardworking brain like Tay's if you ask me...

And I am curious because you beautifully crafted the moment, where Tay's whole angelic act comes crumbling to the ground. That moment, when he flees and runs away from his own actions, when he's desperate and broken and so, so vulnurable...

I am curious to see, if there's something that catches Tay when he falls, or if he crashes and break his wings.

For now (I am open for discussion if I overlooked something again XD) I think that Tay... would be pretty lonely. Back then (I think of pre Porsche era) he had Kinn, who is forced to swallow down his emotions (best example, when Kinn listened to Tay and Time how he should smile and behave towards Porsche to show that he is ahem, interested. Aaaaand this brings me back to Tay being so used to putting up an act as soon as he goes outside that he even knows how to break it down for someone else and explain it. Because it is normal for him to know which impulse that he gives causes which reaction. It is engraved in his mind) so Tay is the one who helps Kinn out but on the other hand, it's going to be difficult for a guy with an emotional capacity like a rock like Kinn has, to be helpful in a full fledged breakdown.

And Time? Looking at him roughly, I see someone who has cheated on Tay many times, in this case breaking his trust and definitly the perspective of being someone to hold on to when shit is about to get real.

That brings me to the question, who would catch Tay? Who would take care for him, who or what would give him the place of peace and a break from the constant attention he has to maintain? How could not break under all this pressure?

Your whole part about Tay and his feelings, the moment where his instincts and heart collide and shows him the monster, holy. You nailed this!

Tay wants to love! He wants to have something real, something more than just a lingering thought of companionship or a blissful fantasy!

But he sees himself now, he sees under his own veil and realizes what he could do with that power and those abilitys.

Uhhhhhh, your itch with Korn’s idea behind the friendship with Tay and Time got me itching, too. I DO think that Tay’s family really is that influential. Time says that he crushed his car in the old area of Tay’s father, and “he cleared it off. The whole thing went silent.” There’s more than money necessary to make something like that happen, in my opinion. So yeah, being on good terms with those families is probably a smart business decision. (Random side note: Tay mafia heir is also an incredible sexy concept, OMG. Honestly, why has there been so little Tay action in the fandom?! The possibilities!!! 😭😍)

But you’re right, nevertheless. Ther’s never just one side to Korn’s actions, always playing 4D chess against everyone. And it is risky to allow “our all-time-tits out emotional dandy who is fucking starved of platonic affection” (that description made me laugh so fucking hard, oh my God 🤣🤣) to have this kind of emotional bonds, sure. But: wouldn’t the opposite be even more risky? To put Kinn in complete social isolation and still expect him to be a somewhat functional human being, NO, to be the heir of the family, able to differentiate between friend and foe?

I mean, look at all three brothers and their social life: Tankhun’s “friends” are his bodyguards, paid to be there (dying on that hill that Pol was only hired to keep Tankhun company btw 😌), paid to do what he wants, to obey, to die for him if necessary – not seen as independent, free-thinking human beings at all. (I’m not saying that Tankhun doesn’t love his bodyguards but that still doesn’t change the situation.) And Kim, well, he has completely isolated himself until he decides to pull Chay into his very own net of manipulation and we all know how well that went for Kim, being utterly starved of affection - only ending up tangled in a trap of his own making.

My point is: isn’t Kinn the most socially functioning of all of them because he’s the only one that has real friends? Friends that keep him in check and tell him when he’s being fucking stupid? That are not paid or lovers or part of the family?

And even though I think that Korn doesn’t really get the concept of friendship outside of business, he’s smart enough to see that they are…necessary. That it’s better for his children to have them than not. Well, at least until he comes to the conclusion that one of those friendships might not be worth the trouble…if you catch my drift. 👀

And well, I don’t want to give too much away at this point, but the fic I’m writing plays relatively soon after the thing with Tawan happens, so Kinn is definitely no help with any form of breakdown…or any emotional thing at all. But just like you said, I don’t think that Kinn is very helpful on a good day either. He’s just not a person you would go to…to lay your heart bare.

And well…Time. Good old Time. His infidelity is actually one of the catalysators of my story, getting Tay into this situation he was trying to avoid because he knew (through instinct, paranoia, “training”) that things would end up going south. So, he’s also not a candidate to catch Tay at the moment. If he ever is. But…that doesn’t mean I don’t have plans for him. 👀

I don’t think that there’s any person to catch him, to hold him, to take care of him, actually. Not at that moment, not in the way he needs to, anyway. But I think there’s a person to ground him. A person to make him see things from a different (not necessarily better, but different) perspective. A person who digs out truths with reckless abandon, who isn’t deflected by kicks and screams and a bloody mess but encouraged. A different kind of beast.

I want Tay to go to Vegas. As crazy as it sounds. (And that only works based on my “There's...'something' between Tay and Vegas, some kind of understanding” headcanon, I guess. )
