so i just finished saltburn (2023)…it’s like joe goldberg but he’s in parasite (2019) lmao i’ve only watched barry keoghan in the one other movie—the killing of a sacred deer (2017); he kinda plays the same weird/outcast character and he does it so well. as always, a24 never fails to make my stomach churn ( ꩜ ᯅ ꩜;) ꩜⋆。๋࣭ ⭑

tv shows NEED to have 22 episode seasons with filler eps that range from "good and fun!" to "ohhh my god ur wasting my time get back to the plot!!" and be kinda shitty and low budget but full of heart on a network hanging together by shoe-strings and duct tape, is the thing. and they need to air week-by-week over the course of like 6 months to build suspense and engaging, invested fandoms. kids these days with their netflix-8-episode-binge-in-a-day streaming shows don't Know

badhaai do is genuinely such a good fucking film because all of the characters feel real and lived rather than caricatures or imitations of people. The queerness of the main characters is central to their identity and the conflict they have within themselves due to the environment they are placed in and it feels right because while they're queer that's not all they're limited to. Not everything in their life can be attributed to their queerness which is something that I feel most queer media are unable to portray well.
There's something about the inherent sweetness and innocence in their queerness which is not because they're not shown having sex or kissing or doing anything vulgar,, rather because they're just normal people living their normal lives and trying to survive in their environments
there is something really cool about all the queer relationships having started "ugly" in a manner of speaking (because spitting, talking and joking about poop, or in a work environment talking with an "inebriated" disturber/trespasser with the intention of running them off or punishing them are not really considered respectable) and evolving into something rather sweet and strong and persisting. It's a reflection of queer experiences that take place even in the ugliest of circumstances to create something so beautiful because it's inherent and being queer is not really a choice. There's also the idea of all of the relationships having occurred in daily life without it being a conscious chasing of that experience which again reflects on the inherent normality of queerness.
This is perhaps the first time I've felt so enriched and nurtured and held by a queer portrayal in Bollywood and I think it should be talked about so much more than it is

i actually genuinely think we need a second rwrb movie because the ending is too vague for people who haven't read the book and it's epilogue. if you just watch the movie you can read it like henry is okay with joining alex's life in politics because he has left england behind, but the actual ending is more that henry has chosen to accept his place in alex's life and his family BUT alex is NOT going into politics. he and henry move to brooklyn and alex goes to grad school to become a lawyer, not a politician because he doesn't want that life either and that is skimmed over way too much imo. like. of course henry goes up on stage when ellen wins the election, because he's part of the family but it's not that he's trading the crown for us politics and we need a second movie to show us that. and make a christmas movie bc let's go all the way with the tropes.
