I have a question - why is it the GDF never seems to realise that having a single point of failure is a BAD PLAN?

There are lots of examples but I’m thinking most of the rescue RO.BOTS that in theory should have been a great asset to the world but for some lunatic reason were all controllable / reprogrammable to be evil from one poorly guarded suitcase.

The official line from the GDF is... things go wrong. You cannot plan for every unfortunate setback (unless you're International Rescue), but we here at the GDF do our best to limit mistakes from happening both in real-time and in the planning for future missions.

In our defence, the RO.BOTS failure was due to a progression of events that led to that unfortunate 'failure'. However, allow me to reassure you all that the GDF have a strict debriefing policy, which means that long reports are made detailing everything that went wrong (and what went right!) so as to avoid further accidents of a similar nature happening again in the future.

i am not usually interested in dramatically canon-divergent scenarios because the canon story is what compels me, but i've been obsessed with this moment ever since i re-heard it during my second viewing. from the perspective of someone who already finished the story once and now knows the truth - this was wild.

I do think it's very interesting to have Loop as a counterpoint to Siffrin because as a character Loop is forced to talk more than what they are probably comfortable with, so we get some interesting insights into Siffrin as well. It also lets us see what it might have been like to view Siffrin from the outside when they first met the party, the rather lackadaisical personality with sharp mean comments that are intended as teasing. While Loop is different than Siffrin, an extreme version of a possibility, there are still similarities that we can acknowledge between them. As such, I think it's a tad dishonest to write the party as not noticing the similarities of the two of them when writing Loop joins the party fanfics. Sure, they don't recognize Loop as Siffrin in game but that was an emergency scenario with zero context as to what was happening. Given time and less stress, I'm sure everyone in the party would realize that something about Loop is adding up Siffrin. Anyway, that's just some of my thoughts on the matter. I find the mirror of self intriguing when the reflection has grown sentience and the ability to change without knowing they are a reflection in the first place.

I wanted to go ahead and very quickly point out some interesting details about Richie and Mike's birthdays in IT 2017. Richie's canon birthday in IT 2017 is March 7th, 1976. In the book, Richie had his encounter with IT as the Paul Bunyan Statue in March of 1958. Mike's canon birthday in IT 2017 is July 3rd, 1976. In the book, July 3rd is the day Mike meets the Losers Club, its the day of the rock fight. Kind of interesting right?

i know i tend towards "hand me messages on a plate" in terms of what i want from media, and that's not where everyone falls. totally get that. i do appreciate and enjoy room for interpretation of meaning and i support show don't tell, absolutely. but sometimes (and especially in late seasons spn) i feel like they're not showing anything and they're not telling anything. and when it becomes a persistent pattern, i'm left asking, if you're not showing and you're not telling, is there anything there at all?

resisting the urge to be annoying and ramble about how kieran's arc wouldn't really work if transplanted onto hop or wally without changing core parts of their own personalities + stories + motivations, essentially ( most likely unintentionally ) pigeonholing them as the " weaker rival " archetype despite how all three grow far beyond that.

My 2am brain got the idea to attempt to make a mesh edit and create Rook's rapier, which is FAR beyond my current skill level for meshing (which is zero), but I'm getting desperate here. We shall see if my awake at normal hours brain tomorrow is determined enough to attempt to follow through on it. I know it's not gonna work the way I want it to, but if nothing else maybe I can learn something from the failure???

yes. absolutely. it's not a tragic ending by any means, but it is much more bittersweet even if bk moon does try to end in a happy and hopeful note

in tged the ending was pretty straightforwardly happy. i have many, many, many thoughts about why the ending kind of sucks a little bit after ch 401 but the important part is that after lloyd sacrifices his life to keep his loved ones (specifically javier) safe, it doesn't take that long for him to be able to come back and he gets to live a full, happy life surrounded with people he loves until he eventually dies of old age (and is then elevated into being an archangel by his codependent bestie but like. details.) so while lloyd's self-sacrifice is pretty heartbreaking everything resolves so quickly and neatly that i wouldn't even really call it bittersweet.

that doesn't happen with cpsm. when rakiel sacrifices himself to stop acheros, he's gone for nine years. and while the people who love him, like damian and asterion, never quite lose hope of bringing him home one day, trying over and over to find him even while risking their lives in the process, he's still gone that entire time. they still have to move forward without him. rakiel was the biggest loss that day but by no means was he the only one. even nine years later and with the dragon king, the archangel and king of hell working non-stop that entire time, the world still hadn't been fully repaired from the damage acheros inflicted on it. the three more powerful beings in existence are right there and they cannot help to bring rakiel back because the entire world is depending on them to fix everything else first.

and when rakiel does come back, he's no longer human. his hopes of living a normal and quiet life, of having children and then grandchildren, of eventually growing old and peacefully passing away are gone. he's now the demon king. he's immortal. he's going to live and live and live while everyone around him (besides damian) doesn't. bk moon very carefully doesn't touch this topic in the ending, probably because he didn't want to sour what's meant to be a happy ending but it's a pretty inevitable conclusion. he makes it very clear through lloyd and even a little with javier that being immortal it's not really all that great. especially in this universe where time passes differently in other realms.

so while rakiel manages to come back it's not without a price and in this case the price was becoming an immortal surrounded by mortals. and this is especially heartbreaking for someone like rakiel, someone who dedicated his life to healing and saving people. being stuck watching people pass away without being able to do anything about it, because there's just simply nothing to do, not against the passage of time itself, is pretty rough for everyone but especially someone like that.

of course it's not all sad! the ending is actually pretty sweet and hopeful, because now rakiel gets to spend his time doing exactly what he loved, running his clinic and helping people without worrying about almost anything. plus he does get to keep damian with him for the rest of eternity. and there are other immortal beings out there to keep them company. they hang out once a year to have dinner together. he even gets to have kimchi. life is pretty great overall.

so while the curse of immortality is hanging over his head and the eventuality of losing all his loved ones to time itself is inevitable, for now he gets to be happy. and he gets the rest of eternity to figure out what comes next.

as for what happens with lloyd and javier. they're fine. they got to hang out for almost a decade in the mortal realm and cheongi is making them have dinner at her house once a year so they can see each other more regularly than they did before. lloyd does mention he'll have to go back to heaven to be nagged at by his wife for being one nine years which. okay. but they'll be okay too.

Can you notice how many different stitch types are in this?

I ask because I'm using different stitches for certain parts of my tallit to stand out, but I'm curious how noticable it is to a relatively untrained eye, since I feel other crocheters might have a leg up over you - if you see any differences, I'm curious what you see!
