do u think we can discourse about the lack of suicide in this series. the only out and out suicides we really get in the main series ashara dayne. i think you could argue that arys oakheart commits suicide, in a sort of suicide-via-cop way (or well, suicide via bodyguard) as well. possibly you can include qhorin halfhand although thats an interesting case given it’s not the “typical” suicide - he IS effectively killing himself here but it’s to help keep jon alive, who has a real shot at escaping, when qhorin himself does not. and while i think it’s left vague for a reason (reason being george likes several options & the ultimate answer is not important but fun to speculate about) there is the idea that maegor killed himself rather than being murdered. but that’s it iirc. in f&b and twoiaf there are a few more - helaena, gael, aelora, and tess. notable to me that (probably) like ashara, helaena kills herself (probably) over her grief from the loss of her children via jumping. tess & gael both drown themselves, and gael, like ashara & helaena, does so after losing a child. aelora is an unknown. all of these characters added are women. and of the characters - aelora, tess, helaena, gael, ashara, arys, qhorin, maybe maegor - only arys & qhorin are men and they both kill themselves in a fight.
i think that’s just kind of weird & interesting when you think not only about how bleak things get but also the way suicide is almost like, idk, industrialized in the series? there’s the house of black and white, where anyone of any faith and any background can go to kill themselves and then the northern concept of the old and disabled going south to fight that the winter wolves demonstrate. in the house of black and white, there’s set up - it’s a whole operation really, where you can have a final prayer before being given a way to quickly kill your self and know that your body will be disposed of properly (rather than leaving it for your family to find, for instance). and with the winter wolves, it’s part of a custom, practically a policy in the north - when there’s not enough to go around, you find somewhere else to die so your family doesn’t have to bare the burden of caring for you. i think this is interesting when you factor in qhorin - he essentially does just this, kills himself so jon can last and live to fight another day.
two instances of suicide on a rather grand scale and yet actual named characters that kill themselves? you can count them on one hand!

Some other things I like in Next to Normal (prev)
Gabe stared at Dan longingly when he sang "It only hurts when I'm here" 🥲
Dan gave Diana flower in the morning💐
Dan tapped his phone at the card reader when singing "tired" was just brilliant lol
The way Caissie sang "cuts you like a knife" really sounded like a knife slashing down it's amazing.
The "Ring! Honey!" ringtone was so cute ~~~
Dan half threatened Henry to sit with them in It's Gonna Be Good lol
Natalie looked like she wanna hide in the hole seeing her father half mad with fake excitement 😂
Jamie's emphasis on "I am the one who needs you".
After the suicide Gabe entered the stage just as Dan sang "I need a lift and there’s no one around" 😫
Gabe was genuinely terrified by the blood, completely in tune with Dan’s emotion 🩸
Gabe was scared by Diana when she raged on in Didn’t I See This Movie. Cute.
That little lightbulb gesture Dan did in Better Than Before ~
The fact that after Diana remembered Gabe, Dan (and later Gabe) stayed on stage for so long just sitting there looking miserable. So good.
After Natalie found Dan in the dark Gabe tried to reach out again but Dan backed away 😢I felt like there were slight variation each time I saw but the last time Gabe stretched his arm all the way out and Dan stepped back so far. He kept glancing at Gabe before answering Natalie too. God I love that scene.
In Light when Natalie and Dan were cleaning the house Natalie squeezed Dan’s shoulder and Dan grasped her hand like a lifeline 🫠

hello! next to normal is basically the only thing i've thought about for the past month and i'm dying to talk about it with someone so i'm just gonna leave a bunch of questions here please feel free to answers as many or as few as you like :D
would love to know what you thought about the west end covers you saw
who is your favourite person who has played each role?
you mentioned in your review that you find the west end gabe less creepy than i'm presuming aaron tviet's interpretation? would love if you wanted to elaborate more on that cause personally the west end gabe is the first time i've ever found him 'creepy'. aaron's always had a distinct jockish confidence to me that made him scary because he felt powerful but still not creepy imo
what're your favourite songs? mine are i am the one (reprise) and didn't i see this movie?
do you have any strong opinions on a movie adaptation? personally i hate the idea. i think so much of the power of the show comes from the fact that it's happening Right In Front Of You and i also think no matter what they did they'd butcher how gabe appears
if this version goes to broadway, who is your dream cast? (pretty sure caissie levy's a lock in bc according to the director he wouldn't have done the show if she didn't agree to play diana, but dream big or whatever)
hello!! thank u so much for this omg. i just replied to an ask about the west end covers
favorite person in each role: jessica phillips as diana, brian d'arcy james as dan, meghann fahy as natalie, louis hobson as madden/fine but trevor dion nicholas could usurp that i think! random but there's this regional production that had a gabe i LOVED (landen starkman), and then of course adam chanler beret IS henry
re: creepy gabe, what i mean by that is the freudian aspect to original gabe (think the original blocking of i am the one). they really took literally "he's a hero a lover a prince" which works and makes sense for bway but in the west end one it doesn't have the abstract/dream feel to it and that's probably they removed that aspect of gabe, it wouldn't transfer well. he's just less physically close and touchy with the goodman family
ahh i don't even know what my favorite songs are, they change depending on my mood lol. but i think i always love light and i've been
nooooo movie please they already let riverdale butcher the show i cant take a dearevanhansification of it. and you're right, there's no way to make gabe on screen work well. it needs to be a live production
for a broadway cast i wouldn't be mad at caissie levy!! if it takes a decade or more to get it back on broadway i'd love meghann fahy to return as diana. ben tyler cook or josh colley could do a great gabe, jordan fisher henry?? let adam chanler beret come back as madden/fine?? and this is kinda random but i saw josh groban in sweeney and was like oh that's dan goodman

“Feeling good in my skin/ I just keep on dancing,” Harry Styles sings in his latest single, “Treat People With Kindness.” And in the song’s exuberant music video -- which has garnered 17 million YouTube views and counting since its debut on New Year’s Day -- he does just that: Wearing a sequined jacket and bow tie, he chassés, spins and flutters jazz hands like an MGM musical star (with a little help from his equally debonair partner, Fleabag’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge).
Styles shot the video in early 2019 after several weeks of training with choreographer Paul Roberts, a collaborator since his One Direction days. “I think somewhere in the back of my mind, I knew this could be something special,” says Roberts, a veteran stage director and choreographer who’s worked on videos and tours for the likes of Sam Smith, Katy Perry, Diana Ross, and the Spice Girls (their Spiceworld stadium tour).
Watching the explosive fan reaction to Styles’s little known dance talents -- including from the Spice Girls, who've “sent lovely messages" about the video -- Roberts says it seems like "Treat People With Kindness" arrived at the precise right moment. “Most people’s comments are, ‘I’ve not felt that happy for three and a half minutes in a long time,’ or ‘I smiled from ear to ear the whole way through.’ It’s a positive light.”
He spoke to Billboard about Styles’ intensive training process -- and why he wouldn’t be surprised to see him dancing onstage again.
There’s been one pretty overwhelming reaction to this video: “This is the guy who was in the group that insisted they couldn’t dance?!” Did you expect this kind of reaction to Harry dancing? I’ve been with Harry for 10 years: I was with the One Direction boys from the beginning the whole way through their career before they took the hiatus, and they always made a very conscious decision that they didn’t want choreography as part of their brand -- but they did want a kind of disheveled organization in order to allow the cameras and the lighting to stand a chance in terms of presenting them in the best manner possible.
What was very evident to me was that all five of them, and then it obviously became four, they’ve all got their own magic. The only time I’ve experienced that was when I worked with the Spice Girls. I always knew that they had special skills aside from what they were in One Direction, whether it was movement, songwriting, being able to handle the business side of things. For such young lads they were very astute and very decisive.  So, getting together with Harry -- he’s a bit of an alchemist, is Harry. Everything he turns his hand to turns to gold. Where did the initial dance-centric concept come from? Harry and the directors, Ben and Gabe [Turner], sent me a video link to the Nicholas Brothers scene from Stormy Weather and Harry asked me, "How long do you think it would take to dance like this?" I was like, "OK, are you being serious?" "Yeah, I’m being serious."
That is probably one of the most standout dance sequences ever captured on film -- so I knew we were aiming high. I said, "Why don’t we go into a studio and let’s workshop some choreography, some moves, some short sequences, and see what your ability is, see how we can tailor this to make you look the best you can possibly look." Obviously it would take some investment in terms of rehearsal and commitment, I told him it would be mentally and physically exhausting, but I thought, "My God yeah, let’s do it; this will be an adventure."
How long did the whole process take? We started in mid-January 2019, and we rehearsed and workshopped for about four to five weeks before the shoot, every day. Both Harry and Phoebe had other things going on, so, for instance, Phoebe was working on the new Bond movie in Canada, so I sent my assistant to Canada to work with her. I stayed in the U.K. with Harry, and then we went to L.A. where Harry shot two more videos, for “Watermelon Sugar” and “Falling.”
At the end of the “Watermelon Sugar” shoot, he wrapped, got in his car, came to the dance studio and we rehearsed into the night. Knowing how short a time you sometimes get with artists even for really big performances, I thought the rehearsals would dilute and we’d lose momentum, but both Phoebe and Harry were so committed.
What was the process in the studio like with Harry? We didn’t even use his [vocal] track to begin with -- we used different big band songs, some contemporary alternative music. It was just about finding his [movement] language first and foremost.  Then we developed the choreography and sent it to the directors, who gave us feedback. We enhanced the work a bit more, and then once we had some really solid sequences, Ben and Gabe storyboarded the scenes against the timeline of the music.
At this point Harry and Phoebe were still working separately, and then we joined forces in London, where we really started to refine these sequences of choreography we’d developed, trying to find the finesse and the style, almost making sense of the movement for them so they felt they had a dancer’s way of working the movement through the body. You’ve worked with a wide variety of artists, many of whom aren’t dancers first. How do you find, as you put it, the “language” of movement that makes sense for each of them as individuals?
I think the general answer is really communicating -- listening and understanding what the artist’s desire is. And also collaborating, so you don’t get too lost in yourself as a choreographer. What looks good on you might not transcend to the artist, or even necessarily the dancers.
With Harry, what was important within the language of the choreography was that it felt joyful and had personality. Him and Phoebe, with the work she’s done with Fleabag, you associate them and what they do with a sense of style, a real confidence, but at the heart of it it’s entertainment. And with the amount of time and budget we had, which was such a luxury in this day and age, we wanted to do something that pushed both of them out of their comfort zones. We tried to make it as athletic as possible but without compromising them as artists and becoming too comedic. We wanted it to be a bit quaint and cute in places, but we definitely didn’t want it to be thought of as nonsensical or silly.
Harry’s movement in the video is so crisp and precise, even his hands and arm extension look very dancerly. Did that come through a lot of specific work with you? As a songwriter and artist, for Harry it’s about detail, about pushing yourself to be the best. He’s always got questions: "Why are we doing that? Should we be doing this?" We got to a point during the rehearsal period where I brought in a ballet teacher, really to just get Harry and Phoebe to open themselves up from behind their shoulder blades, have an idea of extension, the lines that extend from your center all the way to the tip of your finger. I’d be saying, “Your arms Harry, your arm line!” Asking him to push his shoulders down, lift his carriage up, extend through his breast. And when he hit those lines, he’d be like, “Oh yeah, that feels different.” It’s funny: We spent a couple days apart -- he had to go off and do a gig somewhere -- and I was like, “I hope you’re rehearsing when you’ve got some downtime, dude!” And he sent me a picture in the gym with his arms in the most beautiful balletic arm line! I was like, "Yes, by George, you’ve got it!" Besides the Nicholas Brothers, did you have any particular dance references in mind for the feel of the choreography? I just delved into the MGM archives. Obviously [Fred] Astaire and [Gene] Kelly, the two greats -- especially with Astaire, we loved how sometimes it seems so effortless yet a bit throwaway, not totally totally perfect always.  We enjoyed the moments from him of “I’ll just do a bit of this,” “I’ll just walk off camera left,” the dropping in and out of movement.  We loved the duet “Moses Supposes” from Singin’ in the Rain, for Gene Kelly and Donald O’Connor -- we loved the camaraderie between them, which felt a bit goofball at times, and just that wry smile, the look to the left, knowing your partner is there and has got your back. It feels fizzy, it feels joyful.
And yes, there was a massive core of MGM-ism, but at the same time an absolute huge dollop of Harry-and-Phoebe-ism. It was important to us to feel a bit more contemporary, so again we stay true to Harry and Phoebe as artists. Has Harry indicated any interest in dancing more going forward?
We had a conversation back at the end of the summer about how much we enjoyed the process, and I know he was doing another project where choreography was involved, so we were just talking about it and how he felt. Coming from where he came from to what he was about to do, he felt he could be pushed even further. I don’t know if he got the bug, or if it’s just the way he is as a person, very inquisitive and wanting to keep elevating himself. There’s now been some talk on social media that it can’t be long before Harry does Broadway. What do you think?
I mean, I think with Harry Styles, anything is possible, is it not? I mean, I’m sure because he’s tasted the dance, he’ll inject that along the line in his career. It won’t necessarily be out-and-out dancing, but I guess it’s a bit like Bowie used to do, isn’t it? It’s the showmanship and presentation of the performance. Who knows? He’s just so open-minded and open-hearted — and because he’s so open it allows the universe to come back at him and he’s able to do anything he sets his mind to.

How Harry Styles Found His Inner Dancer For 'Treat People With Kindness'

Pretend to be my date
Tumblr media
Pairing - Gabe Goodman x reader
Word count - 1,385
Warnings - fluff (wow shocking it’s not angst) that’s about it
A/N - Wow haven’t posted a musical fic in a while. I am still willing to write for musicals if people have requests for them. I mean writing for Gabe wasn’t too bad since I will always have a soft spot for Aaron Tveit and all the characters he plays (especially Christian) As usual y’all, please send requests and enjoy!
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
“Can you pretend to be my date to prom?” You ask as soon as you sit down opposite your best friend Gabe Goodman during your lunch time.
“W-what?” Gabe stammers, his face quickly becoming red as his eyes widen.
“I’m sorry, just I need someone because Joe asked me to go with him to prom.” You explain, Gabe quickly catching on, he knew that Joe had a crush on you since you joined the school but since you turned him down the first time he quickly started trying new means to get you to get with him. When Gabe had caught wind of this the first time he immediately started walking you to all your lessons to make sure you got there safe and the presence of Gabe was enough to deter Joe and make you feel a lot safer.
“Yeah sure, I’ll be your pretend date.” Gabe says, a grin covering his face as his brain screams at him to admit how he truly feels about you, to admit that he had a crush on you since he first met you but instead he opts to continue to eat his food as he watches your face flood with relief.
“Thank you Gabe, you’re amazing.” You say, a smile appearing on your face, relieved that you now have an excuse to say no to Joe as Gabe nods his head in acknowledgement as he continues to eat his lunch. You watch his actions for a minute, wishing he wasn’t your pretend date, but your real date.  But you knew the two of you were friends and would never be anything more even if you wanted it to be, you knew Gabe only saw you as a friend and you didn’t want to ruin the friendship the two of you had so you kept your crush to yourself.
After school, you and Gabe walked home together and as you left to go into your house you gave him a large hug and thanked him once more for coming to your aid.
“Don’t worry about it y/n/n.” Gabe says, a large smile on his face as he pulls away from the hug before bidding you goodbye and watching as you walk into your house before continuing on the rest of his walk back to his own house.
“Hey mum, I’m home.” You call through the house, causing your mum to emerge from the kitchen and greet you with a large smile and hug.
“How was school?” She asks, releasing you from the hug as you move to put your bag down on the floor to ease your back muscles from carrying heavy books all the way back home.
“It was good. I have someone to go to prom with now.” You say, avoiding using the word ‘date’ in order to not excite your mum too much but she still gets excited and her smile widens as she claps her hands happily as if she was a young child.
“Ooh! Who’s the lucky guy?” She asks eagerly.
“It’s just Gabe. We’re going as friends though so don’t get any ideas mum it’s not anything more.” You say, your cheeks flushing red at your mum’s reaction as she squeals happily.
“Gabe is a good guy y/n, I’m so glad you’re going together. Maybe you’ll finally admit your feelings for each other.” Your mum says, laughing as your cheeks grow hotter.
“Mum, we’re just friends it will never be anything more.” You insist, wishing your blush will go away and stop giving your crush away but your mum just raises an eyebrow and gives you a look.
“I’ve seen the way the two of you look at each other. It’s not subtle at all, Gabe likes you the same way you like him. You just need to tell him, because if you don’t, you’ll regret it.” She shoots back, not wanting her child to miss out on a great guy like Gabe.
Just down the road Gabe was having a conversation that was almost going the exact same way the conversation you and your mum just had. His mother, Diana and his father, Dan were almost screaming out of frustration as Gabe insisted there was no way you could possibly like him back.
“Gabriel Goodman. I swear you need to open your eyes because that girl likes you. If you won’t admit it to her now. You better tell her at prom, or I swear down I’ll tell her myself.” Dan says, gripping Gabe’s shoulder tightly as Gabe’s blush increases. Gabe chooses to nod nervously as his sister, Natalie walks into the room, wondering what all the commotion was about. Diana explains the situation, and everyone watches as Natalie turns to Gabe.
“I’m with mum and dad. y/n likes you Gabe.” She states simply before turning and walking out of the room, Leaving Gabe in shock that his whole family saw how much you two liked each other. Gabe made a promise to himself that he’d tell you how he felt at prom.
The date of prom rolled around quicker than you’d anticipated and you found yourself sat in front of your mirror in your prom dress, a beautiful f/c dress that fit your figure well as you finished up applying your makeup as you hear your dad call up to your room saying that Gabe is downstairs.
“I’ll be down in a sec!” You reply, touching up your mascara before standing up and grabbing your clutch and putting your phone in it before walking downstairs to see Gabe in a standard suit with a white blazer and black bowtie. You watch as his eyes widen at seeing you come down the stairs.
“Whoa… y/n… you look… beautiful.” Gabe manages to say, watching as you smile shyly, thanking Gabe as you reach the bottom of the stairs.
“You don’t look too bad yourself Gabe.” You reply, approaching him and bringing him in for a quick hug as both your and Gabe’s parents insist they have to take photos before you go. Once the photos have been taken Gabe drives the two of you to the school where you get even more photos taken and then you have dinner in a gazebo out on the school field. The dinner was average, you weren’t expecting too much from the schools dining team, but it was enjoyable enough to sit with Gabe and just relax and enjoy the afternoon. Once the dinner was over all the students went into the gym where they had decorated it with balloons and lights and had a DJ in the corner blasting some music. You danced your heart out along with Gabe, both of you having the time of your lives and before long the disco was nearing an end but the DJ said he wasn’t letting the night end without having a slow song for the couples to dance to. As soon as the song started Gabe held a hand out to you.
“May I have this dance?” He asks while bowing dramatically, making you giggle and nod, taking his hand and allowing him to lead you onto the dance floor as he places one hand on your hip and holds your hand with the other while your free hand rests on his shoulder. You sway lightly to the music, allowing yourself to get lost in Gabe’s sparkling blue eyes before he momentarily broke the stare.
“y/n. I’m going to tell you something now and it may ruin everything, but I need to get it off my chest. I like you. As in, more than a friend. I’ve had a crush on you ever since I met you and I was just always too scared to tell you because-“
“I like you too Gabe. I never told you because I thought there was no way you’d like me back.” You say, cutting Gabe off smoothly and watching as he intakes the information you just told him. Before you can say anything else, he presses a quick kiss to your lips before pulling away quickly. In response you grab the lapels of his blazer and pull him back in for another kiss. The world melting away and feeling as if it just consisted of you and Gabe Goodman and you wouldn’t have had it any other way.

BIOGRAPHY:
There’s nothing that Gabe’s parents wanted more than to have their own little Christmas baby. However, things didn’t go as planned and Gabriel Washington was born a day earlier than intended. However, that was the last time for a long time that Gabe didn’t do exactly what his parents wanted him to. For the next eighteen years of his life, Gabe attended every church service, said every prayer, played every instrument at the church, and he didn’t do anything that he was told to do, no matter what. They say that preacher’s kids are supposed to be the worst, but Gabe is an absolute angel for the most part. His older brother, however, was not. He dabbled in illegal drugs, gang activity, and ultimately armed robbery that landed him behind bars and tainted their family’s image. Gabe did everything in his power not to disappoint his parents like that.
However, the older Gabe got, the more he started to develop certain feelings that his parents and their church had convinced him were wrong. He tried to repress them for as long as possible, until a certain drummer at their church caught on, and Gabe fell in love for the first time.
Just like every other first in his life—his first steps, his first words, his first sermon—Gabe had sex for the first time in their church…more specifically in his father’s pastor’s study. After that, Gabe knew that he was different from everyone else, and he accepted his bisexuality despite the fact that everyone around him talked about how wrong it was. When Gabe sat down his parents to tell them, they took it better than he expected. He wasn’t banished, but there was a bunch of prayer and a bunch of bible reading that didn’t make any difference. Still to this day, his parents look at him differently, but they haven’t disowned him just yet.
Gabe found himself at Pinecrest University -- it’s always been his dream school, and it’s so far away from Mississippi that it seems like a completely different world -- a place where he can truly be himself and not worry about the watchful eyes of his oppressive parents or their minions. Gabe’s still a Christian, but he’s forming his own ideals about his religion as opposed to the ones that were forced on him. He’s the President of the photography club, and chances are that you can find him anywhere on campus with his camera taking pictures usually.
WANTED CONNECTION:
Gabe’s ROOMMATES. Give him people he’s friends with, maybe not so close with, or maybe they don’t like each other at all. Anything can happen here honestly.
FLINGS. Gabe enjoys sex just like any other guy, I do think he has connections with everyone he has sex with though because that’s just the type of guy that he is. Be it friendly or more romantic, Gabe is going to have pillow talk afterwards and ask your muse how their day was or what’s been up in their lives.
His MUSE. Someone he loves from a far -- an unrequited love. Someone he’s so deeply in love with but who doesn’t quite have those feelings back for him. However, he loves taking pictures of them. Maybe this could be an extension of the FLINGS connection, or maybe they’re not having sex at all.
BEST FRIEND. This one’s pretty self-explanatory, maybe it’s his randomly assigned roommate from freshman year, someone he confides in and tells everything to. 100% will be each other’s Best Man at their wedding.

Hi all, I finally finished my mobile masterlist! Because of how many fics I have, and tumblr’s funny rule about word count per post, I had to split it up into two parts. On this post, you will find all my fics and headcanons for characters whose first name starts with A-L. The second part of my masterlist can be found here and in my description.

G E N E R A L -
-To be born under a wealthy man might be a blessing to many but for Preston he’d consider it a curse. He is the product of an affair and lives uncomfortably under the roof of a huge secret.
-His mother had become a young cleaning lady for Bruce Langston; leader and CEO of the economical department in the city. He is a huge deal and any scandal can lead him to lose his position, apparently he didn’t care about that when the man had sex and impregnated Preston’s mother despite having a wife. Once she found out she was pregnant Preston’s mother made absolutely sure that she used that for her advantage and so she became a live in maid, had her life paid for and when it came to her child everything that Preston would need would be taken care of. Even if it meant that Preston would forever be casted into the shadows of the family like an ugly scar.
- This was agreed upon after Bruce’s wife found out and bitterly accepted so her husband would keep his title and money. That was all that the woman carred about after all; not having to give up her rich and lavis lifestyle. But that didn’t mean she was at all accepting of the boy especially when just a few weeks later she became pregnant herself and now there would be two babies under the household that would have to know they were different.
- And the wicked mother she was. She purposely spoiled Preston’s half sibling making sure they had everything. Preston was set for live but they still lived as middle class people so no suspicions were made. Preston always knew he was never going to be treated equally and that was why in his teen years the boy began to rebel in hopes to get caught by his father.
- Bruce hated the fact that Preston was all just a huge stick in his life. And didn’t exactly treat him all too kindly, even though living in the house was nice Preston was treated just as the secret bastard. Even to his half sibling that was born two years after him they were close, little diana not letting her parents hatred come between her and her only brother.
-it was sad, the only other person preston loved more than anything and they had to act like they didn’t like each other. but it didn’t stop his young sister from taking care of him and any moment they were able to have together they made sure they had fun. all until they were in public and had to act like they had no relations at all. how hard it was for preston and diana to at like they hated each other but it was what was forced upon them.
- This led to a few rebellious streaks in his life growing up, hanging out in the poor sections of town, dealing with boys who were not part of the Langston Aesthetic and even getting in a lot of trouble by fighting. This only caused more of a hate for him in the household but as long as he was only seen as the maids boy to the town he got away with it. This family secret was deep. So much so when it came to schooling and his mother’s push that Bruce send Preston to the same schools as his other child, daisy, there was a fake scholarship created in the company that Preston was put under. No one suspected a thing and didn’t have to question why the Langston’s were paying for some no-good maid’s son.
- while in school Preston found the life of underground fighting. Getting bets and fighting in a ring with no rules. Due to his size and build he trained and soon became a top competitor. He was getting the spotlight and loved it, plus there was no better way to get a rush and release his anger then fighting in a ring.
MEETING MICHAEL VALMONT-
-Preston always had a hard time setting in with the fact he was a burden and shadow to his father and would lash out. He didn’t know why Michael liked him so much but once Michael found out Preston’s secret he took him under his wing and they practically became brothers.
-always close, preston didn’t exactly agree with everything Michael did and the two would fight but after a few hours it would be brushed under the rug and forgotten. Except for the final straw.
-Michael started dating a girl and Preston was instantly drawn to her. Falling for her hard and quick. It wasn’t until Preston and the girl started to hook up that Michael ended their friendship and threatened preston’s secret which meant Preston had to stop seeing the girl and he was down a best friend. this has always been hard on the boy and even after trying to fix it with michael the two would only end up fighting again.
PERSONALITY &&. HEADCANONS  -
-  Being the literal mistake in the chaotic family Preston is a bit of a bitter person. Eye rolling, stubborn, hot headed, and quick to defend himself.
- He’s had no one to stick up for him at home and he learned to do this on his own; he is hated at home and only has been told to never speak of his family ties, even being forced by his half brother to never speak to him in public. This makes him pushed away. The tall boy in the back of crowds; out of the spotlight. Preston is not allowed to be seen. Not wanted and that affects the way he is motivated to show off his actual skills.
-his mother has been his biggest teacher and he has an everlasting respect for woman because of it. He will find himself too ashamed to ever mistreat a girl in fear of his mother finding out.
-As much as preston respects girls, he really loves to hook up with them too, not that he wont show them a good time but if he finds his chance with someone he takes it.
- If he was allowed he’d want to be in art, he’s been a lover of arts since he was a child and he is very good at it but of course he is far too self contentious on being forced down. Preston isn’t even allowed to use his size to play sports and as a result he sneaks off to other cities to fight at night. It’s not safe and he uses a fake name but people cheer for him. They see him it’s the only time he feels at peace… even if that peace is dangerous, illegal, and leaves him in bruises that lead his mother to worry.
-  He loves to party; going out and living the life away from that home of his where he is seen as a burden. It’s fun unless his brother is around and the whole time he just gets hard glares to not embarrass him.
-  Find him sketching in his books, doodling along the pages or in sketchbooks in the halls of courtyards. Don’t be surprised if you become his muse. He loves drawing people.
-  Anger; he’s quick to it no matter how much he doesn’t want to be. He just has been pushed to the side so much that he takes things seriously and any insult will trigger him. Sorry if he fights you, he just finds it easier than anything else. -  Aside from being a hot head though he has taken interest in girls and as most boys do tries to test out his flirtatious ways as much as he can. He might not be the best flirt, as he has been told his scowl and serious attitude seems to drive a pretty girl away at times but he still tries.
C O N N E C T I O N S -
Muse: preston seen this girl around and every time he just... feels something. She makes him happy and even though it might sound creepy... he gets caught more then once sketching her; Fallon Kingsley
I’ll scratch your back you scratch mine: They don’t really get a long but always help each other out when they need it: Alice
Crush; they are always one moment from hooking up and yet it always ends with one of them pulling away with a nervous smile, could be the girl that ended michael and preston’s friendship; daisy
You annoy the hell out of me; always butting heads and yet they hang around the same people; Alice
you’re weird but I kinda like you: preston finds him awkward but nice so he still talks to him from time to time; Hugo
Party buddies/wingmen: Preston is a terrible flirt and at least he’s got; cristian
Friends: just close, eats lunch with, drinks peach mixers at parties;  william
Rivals: this person is more than annoying, Preston can’t be in the same room with them without fighting with this person;
hookup, fwb, one night stands, exes; analyn (he was her first time)
the little sibling he never got; she was one of michael’s ex’s when Preston and Michael were still friends, Preston hated that Michael would brag about sleeping with the girl and preston never felt Michael treated her right, he found she was a good girl and deserved to be treated much better. He still is very protective of her and thinks she’s too good for dupont. soshanna
his cash cow; The girl has been a past hook up but now, the only thing she hooks up with preston for is the percentage she gets off his winnings. She tells him where to fight, who he’s fighting, and how to win... and preston hands over some of the money he makes. it’s a good thing they have just... don’t tell her they are friends, she denies it every thime.; Sabina
Preston’s half-brother (or sister): this person got everything from his father that he didn’t and it’s all because his father could, and did, show them off to the world. Preston can’t hate his half-sibling but just once he wants to have his father view him as more than just the “maid’s son”. they are close though, and when they are alone they treat each other like the close siblings they with they could be; diana langston
should be girl: her and preston have a strange relationship. they are close but in a way that hurts him every time. They were a strong thing in high school and he got every attached to her, to this day he would do anything for her... which includes being her booty call every time her and her boyfriend break up. He wants nothing but to keep her happy but he knows that she and her boyfriend will always get back together and he would be stuck waiting for the call to drop everything and go to her when she was crying over her boyfriend; Maddy
the girl who changed it all: she was dating michael, and at this time preston and Michael were still at brother status, best friends no matter how much they fought. But when she came into the picture Preston fell head over heels for her and she had her eyes on Preston as well. They snuck around for the whole time saying they just hung out at the gym or were studying. When Michael found out he and preston fought so bad it ruined their friendship for good and even though Michael was no saint he was greedy and knowing preston loved this girl he wanted the boy to suffer. So to make sure of that he told preston that if he still saw his ex he would tell everyone how much more of a relation he has to the towns big bad political CEO. and no one could know that preston was his son. so preston tried to stay away... only to keep hooking up with her on the down low;
the secret high school hookup: she stole his crayons when they were young and that sparked a feud between them. but a heated feud that had its breaks when the two seemed to be alone... he kissed her in the slide and that opened them up to years of secretly hooking up in high school just for the fun of it. they still act like they hate each other but the door is always open for good memories in between the times they are saying they hate each other; Calla

Colours: Yellow
Rating: Teen and up
Fandom: Ouran High School Host Club
Relationships: Kyoya & Tamaki, Unrequited TamaKyo
Trigger Warnings: Depression
Summary: Yellow sunlight, yellow hair; warm things that make him slightly nauseous. He can't help but stare, eyes stinging, at how fucking beautiful they are. He also thinks about putting his eyes out, but these feelings are never easy.
Other fanfics in this series: Grey / Blue
He hated how short his school days seemed to be now, basically begging Tachibana to allow him to return home. His notes were sloppy at best, and he couldn’t focus enough to complete his tests. Everything was shorthand, not explained, and his grades suffered. Luckily, these weren’t actual exams, but their teachers made sure to keep up to date.
Are you feeling alright, Ootori-san? Have you been to the doctors’? Has your father taken you to get checked out? Question after question and no real answer given. The finances were shared with Haruhi and Kaoru, Tamaki letting something slip. What, he wasn’t sure, but they were more than happy to help their “sick” senpai.
The thing was… he knew this. He knew what it was. It never affected his academic ability before, but he wasn’t really sleeping or eating. He spent most of his nights staring up at the ceiling, contemplating the point of it all, and food turned to dirt and ashes in his mouth. Nothing appetized him. Nothing really mattered to him. When you spend hours thinking about the insignificance of your existence as a whole, homework doesn’t appeal. He was too tired for that, despite being dragged into a void of existential contemplation and crisis.
His friends were worried, of course. Despite never verbally bringing up each other’s issues, Mori and he had a friendship based on silent support. He didn’t feel completely alone on the days where he felt too weighed down and his tongue felt to heavy to talk. Still, there were times when the silence was too thick and noxious, slowly suffocating him as they sat there. Like he needed to say something, but it left a bad taste in his mouth. On those days, he scratches at his arms and Mori gave him a sad look of both understanding and comradery.
But Mori couldn’t say anything, just like Kyoya couldn’t say anything when Honey was pushed into throwing him down. Firstly, that wasn’t their sort of friendship; silence was deeply rooted in their compatibility. Secondly… It was hypocritical. For any human flaws they might’ve had, neither of them wished to be a hypocrite. They built their support on silence, and that was how it’d stay.
Hikaru couldn’t give less of a shit about him… usually. Now, he was asking questions. He was asking how his day went, if he’d like to lie down in the back room; you look like you’re about to faint and you can’t concentrate, go sleep it off. It was, in a word, disturbing. He much preferred the Hikaru who almost acted like a possessive cat, raising his back whenever he and Kaoru would go off on their own. It was downtime, and he and Kaoru were becoming close. Until this thing came back, at least; he found himself preferring the comfort of his room over anything they could do together.
Kaoru… He barely knew. Sometimes he didn’t really see the other boy, other times he flitted around him as if Kyoya was made of glass. While he knew that no one knew what was wrong, no one knew how to make it better, it still irritated him. Not Kaoru, really – he was trying his best – but himself. He shouldn’t be irritated when he was the one to blame, allowing this thing to infect him once more. Logically, he knew it wasn’t really his fault, but he couldn’t help but feel sick with himself over it.
Then, there was Haruhi and Tamaki. Both had lost their mothers to illness, in some way. Tamaki’s mother was still alive, yes, but circumstances and sacrifices came between them. For those two, it set off something of a fear in both of them. He was pale, slow, dark circles laying beneath caked makeup in some vain attempt to look at least a little healthier. But, at the end of the day, he felt like he was in freefall. Soon, he’d hit the ground, bloody and broken. Dead.
Free from all of this.
He shook his head, trying to rid himself of that thought. It was happening… not frequently, but not rarely either. It was disquieting, quite frankly scary, but he was still fine. Not functioning perfectly, he couldn’t lie to himself that much, but fine. He was still alive… in a sense. He still breathed, still had a heartbeat. He wasn’t physically ill, so all he had to do was pull his mind together. Despite acting like one, he wasn’t some sort of useless NEET or hikikomori. He was intelligent, witty, and he was going to succeed… Right? Honestly, he wasn’t even that sure anymore…
“Ootori-kun, are you paying attention?”
The drama teacher’s voice snapped him back into reality, and it was startling, in a very temporary and minor way, just how normal this had become for him when those around him still seemed concerned. He wasn’t used to this. He wasn’t. It was just too familiar…
“Well, as I was saying,” He teacher began, a hint heavily in her voice for him to start paying attention, “Tamaki and Kyoya, you’ll be performing a song from the first act; There’s A World. I want you both to show how to react, rather than just staring blankly when you don’t have lines.”
Tamaki was the one who took him to the stage, hand gripping his wrist tightly – but not tight enough. The music began, and there they were. A usually amazing double act, turned an amazing actor and a stone weighing him down. The support was gone, and Tamaki was left with a subpar performance. How unfair.
“I’ll be Gabe, don’t worry,” Tamaki cut in, and he had to start wondering when Tamaki started giving him that almost pitying look. He had to wonder when he’d stopped finding it insulting, “You can be Diana. You won’t have lines, but you’re good at reacting.”
He merely nodded. Honestly, he was just tired and numb right now. He just wanted to go home and sleep, but he just needed to muddle through until lunch. Then, he could go home. At least they were doing Next To Normal, which was a little too easy to act to at times. Who was he kidding? In general. He didn’t want to think, he was too exhausted to just pretend these days. The song wasn’t too long either, which was a Godsend.
The music began, and Tamaki started singing. The song was a melancholy, although beautiful one, a son singing to his mother about a place where she could be happy. As Tamaki sang it, it was his best friend just… talking about the host club. While he’d still been exhausted there recently, it was a place of happiness. That, and Tamaki’s singing voice really was lovely.
However, despite the pretty promises made, in the context of the play it was a lot more sinister. It was someone’s own delusion pushing them to suicide, which cut a little too close to his situation in that moment. He didn’t really want to kill himself, but his thoughts strayed in that direction fairly often. Really, he just wanted to die somehow; that was all. Worrying, but less likely to actually happen; he couldn’t shame his family like that. He couldn’t bring himself to, even if everything felt strained.
He just wanted to stop going around in a circle, like his mother did; circling the drain until he went under, drowning in his own, illogical feelings of melancholy. He’d done this all before, but there was no saviour in the wings, waiting to ride in on a white stallion and rescue him. It was all a huge mess of metaphors, really; he was either a princess in the tower, or some disgusting piece of dirt or lint. It depended on his mood; he was either garbage, or plain pathetic.
At any other time, the thoughts might’ve triggered a self-deprecating smile, but all it seemed to do was drag his mood down further.
“Tamaki-kun! That was amazing!” The cheer cut through his thoughts, the sound coming back to the forefront of his mind, and he turned to see that their audience had certainly enjoyed the performance. A standing ovation. Of course, even with a lead weight, Tamaki was able to cast a spell over all who watched him. He always had that captivating magic.
“Kyoya?” Tamaki cut in, and he blinked. It was then he realised how wet his face was, tears running down his cheeks, “Are you alright? What’s wrong?”
“I… Nothing,” He dismissed, pushing himself to stand and wiping away the tears with the back of his hand, “You said to react, right?”
No one argued. No one ever did.

Dear Next to Normal,
Despite my utter lack of outward expression on this topic, you are my absolute favourite musical of all time. You came into my life at a time when I was an angsty teen but in the years since I’ve found a number of growing reasons for you to maintain your status.
When I found you, I of course related to Natalie and, to a certain extent, Gabe. I was also a teenager at the time. I wanted to escape my shitty parents and I was constantly looking for more, just like Natalie. Like Gabe, I wanted someone, especially my father, to see me. You appealed to my angst and desire to feel something complicated at a time when I barely understood what I was searching for. Superboy and the Invisible Girl was my favourite song.
Throughout high school I appreciated Diana so much more. My own mental problems were taking too much control of my life. I could barely breathe and many nights were spent divided between tears and utter numbness. Friends and family couldn’t help me, half of them didn’t even know. I just wanted to feel something intensely again. I appreciated you for being truthful and not romanticizing my illnesses. You Don’t Know and I Miss the Mountains were my favourite songs.
At this point in my life, Dan is a revelation to me. He is not at the center of the show, and yet he is the heart. He has lost so much and is still able to love so intensely. He’s trying to piece together something that’s falling apart. I can relate. He’s struggling so much with his own demons but he’s trying his best to keep everything from falling apart. I’ve Been has been that song that I’ve secretly loved this whole time, unknowingly.
In the future, Henry is oddly enough a source of hope for me. I want to be someone who accepts their flaws and wants to save the world. He knows he can’t save Natalie but still loves her for who she is and who she can be. He is the uplifting note in a heavy show. Hey #3 will always appeal to my inner romantic.
There’s so much to love about you, Next to Normal. I could go on about your clever blend of cynicism and hope. Your orchestration alone deserves a whole letter, to be honest. You produce emotions in a way I’d never thought possible. You are very important to me. The fact that you end in such a hopeful manner gives me the hope that one day I will too. Light will always be one of my favourite songs of all time.
In short, thank you Next to Normal.
With as much love as I can muster,
a (once) invisible girl

Next to Normal/Dear Evan Hansen parallels
17-year-old boy has a crush on a 16-year-old girl who plays an instrument
Said girl has a brother who dies
Brother’s death causes his father to become stoic and repressed and his mother to desperately grasp onto his memory and imagine a version of him who had a happy, fulfilling life
the mother can’t accept the reality of her son’s situation because she can’t handle the grief that comes with it
Girl is sick of her brother occupying every aspect of her family life and wants something to be about her for a change
she also doesn’t like how her parents deal with the problems surrounding her brother
she and the 17-year-old eventually start dating
long before this happens, the boy tries to kiss the girl at a bad time (if i could tell her/henry getting Stoned™)
it takes several weeks for one of them to let the other into their house
uses my favorite trope ever, which is when an event that is significant to the plot happens before the story actually starts and we don’t learn the details of it until much later because the main character either forgot about it or refuses to acknowledge that it happened
the dead character wants to be remembered
The main character attempts suicide but we don’t actually see them do it
suicide is a major theme in the story but it isn’t exactly the main focus
The main character takes meds to help with their mental illness but later decides to stop taking them
The dead character represents the main character’s mental illness
connor is the voice inside evan’s head and the source of his anxiety: “she’ll hate you. everyone will hate you. you’ll go right back to where you started. no friends, nobody, nothing, alone.”
gabe obviously represents diana’s bipolar disorder (i don’t think this requires an explanation)
both of them encourage the main character to make Bad Decisions
the dead character does drugs
“are you snorting coke?” “not at the moment”
“If I stop smoking drugs then everything might be alright”
Dysfunctional families
rebellious teens
someone feels invisible & there’s a whole song about it
characters who take drugs are either stoners or they take prescription drugs
directed by michael greif
small cast to make the story more intimate
had pre-broadway productions at arena stage in DC and second stage
asa somers was in it at one point
“catch me i’m falling”/evan fell out of a tree and no one came to get him
costumes seem simple and casual but they actually have a fuckton of symbolism
the dead character dresses similarly to whoever’s life he’s fucking with (evan and connor wearing matching sweatshirts, gabe wearing a shirt that’s the same color as whoever he’s trying to communicate with)
light & you will be found are really similar
has a lot of metaphors surrounding darkness and light, in which darkness represents depression and light is what pushes people to continue living
starts off with one person singing & encouraging others to have hope, then the entire cast gradually joins in
“out of the shadows, the morning is breaking... it’s filling up the empty and suddenly i see that all is new”/ “the wasted world we thought we knew, the light will make it look brand new”
“you will be found”/ “there will be light”
ultimately the message is to keep going, it gets better
has characters who outwardly look like they have their life together but are actually Suffering™ (dan, alana, jared) and mentally ill characters who do not at all look like they have their life together (diana, evan, natalie)
painfully relatable
obc member named jennifer
someone from pitch perfect was in it at some point (ben platt is self-explanatory; skylar astin was in a workshop as henry in 2007)
a music box is used for symbolism in next to normal. dear evan hansen is in the music box theater. coincidence? i think not
no but seriously if n2n ever gets revived it needs to be in the music box theater because puns
Imagine the DEH cast in next to normal
ben platt as henry, mike faist as gabe, laura dreyfuss or kristolyn lloyd as natalie, michael park as dan, jennifer laura thompson or rachel bay jones as diana
weather metaphors (cloudy skies in n2n, sunlight in deh)
teen girl says fuck at a family meal, gets scolded by a parent, and talks back
Zoe: fuck you
Cynthia: I don’t need you picking at your brother right now, that is not constructive
Zoe: are you kidding
Natalie: this is fucked
Dan: language
Natalie: Fuck this
one can empathize with all the characters but would also probably fight a lot of them if they had the chance
“everything else goes away”/ “the rest of the world falls away”
won tony awards for best score and orchestrations
There’s probably a lot more so feel free to add on if I forgot anything.

Okay, but I saw Wonder Woman yesterday for the first time and I keep thinking about the development of Diana’s team of ragtag WWI misfits. I wish the Howling Commandos had gotten the same depth and attention in The First Avenger. The Howlies had a montage and a few very forgettable side scenes that were eclipsed by the larger story. Diana’s team all had very distinct, memorable personalities and they were all given at least one meaningful conversation with Diana to make their connection to her that much more personal and grounded and real.
Seeing her with her team showed me we could have had so much more with Steve (Rogers) and his own band of misfits.
Just imagine how much more personal it would have made Captain America’s bond with his team if we’d had: a campfire conversation where Gabe talked about how hard it was to give up his education to fight in the war (especially since he’d fought tooth and nail just to be able to take classes). Or Steve learning French (and explosives) from Dernier (sometimes at the same time, and sometimes with near-disastrous consequences (Hydra found them more than once due to accidental explosions)). What if Falsworth and Steve bantered back and forth about their taste in art (Van Gogh is the only one they both agree is any good)? Or what if Dum-Dum cooked them all something awful and Steve tried to choke it down for the sake of morale (only to find out Dum-Dum knew it was bad and just wanted to see how far Steve would go)? What if Steve found out Morita had family back at home who were in internment camps (also known as the night Steve almost called off the assault on Hydra to go back home and tear down the US internment camps with his bare hands (that’s also when he starts to realize the government of the good ol’ US of A can’t always be trusted)? Imagine if we saw the team relieved to find out Bucky was still alive after Zola took him away in Azzano—and imagine if we saw them grieving with Steve after Bucky’s fall from the train.
Wonder Woman showed us you don’t need much—just a brief exchange here and there. A spark, a glimpse, a suggestion. If Captain America had that depth of connection to his first team, imagine how much more powerful it would be seeing him having to adapt to a new team in the future. Maybe it would be difficult for him, or maybe it would explain why Steve is actually so good at falling into a leadership position with the Avengers. We’d have seen how capable he is at uniting his first team. I don’t know. In either case, I can’t stop thinking about what we missed.

Chuck Shurley x Daughter!Reader “Honey Bee”
Pairing: no pairing
Warning: fluff and more fluff
Word count: 1969
Song used: “Honey Bee” by Louden Swain
Summary: Chuck reflects back on the moments with his daughter he’d probably wouldn’t forget or as long as he lives.
A/N: @mrswhozeewhatsis i hope you like this. I tried my best at this story that was floating around my head for at least a month with no idea how to form it. Hope you like it!
“You woke up, even with the nightlight on, you’re seeing shadows in the break of dawn.”
(Y/N) woke up in her little bed, scared of the dark even though her moon shaped nightlight was on. It was just a little after three in the morning and half-asleep and full of terror, she could see the shadows playing on the wall of her window.
“You called out, Deep inside a dream of my own, It was a nightmare I was all alone.”
“Daddy!” her cries woke Chuck from his fitful sleep where he had no one anymore. Tossing the sheets back, he jumped from the bed, running to his five year old’s room. His heart broke at the sight of the tears on her little round face.
“Oh honey. It’s okay. Did you have a nightmare, sweetie?” he asked softly as he gently picked her up.
“Uh huh,” she whimpered, face buried in his neck. They left the room, down the stairs to the kitchen.
“It’s alright. So did daddy. I dreamt my little ballerina was all alone, with no one to dance with. What did you dream about?” he questioned as he sat her on the counter.
“Monsters were comin’ to get me…” she whispered like they would jump out and snatch her up.
“You buzz around me like a honey bee, the world brand new awaits you, wait for me,” Chuck hummed as he set about getting the two of them some water.
“Fill the cup, water always does the trick. Seal the lid and let you cry with it.”
He handed (Y/N) her blue sippy cup with some cold water, tears still falling, but slowing down. Chuck couldn’t help the pain he felt as he observed his daughter. She was growing up and that was something he still has trouble believing. But moments like right now show him she’s still his little girl, his honey bee, and she’ll always need him.
As the two of them made their way back upstairs and into his room for the night, he pondered on his life before (Y/N), but those thoughts are hard to recall. Especially with her cuddled up against him, expecting him to protect her throughout the night. And he found himself not caring about the past, not when there was right now. With his wife working at the hospital, nights tended to get a little lonely, but he had (Y/N).  His dream later that night was happier; his little bee bounding around him, all fancy and free. But while the world awaits for her, (Y/N) will remember to slow down and wait for him.
* * *
Fast forward ten years and Chuck has watched (Y/N) grow up and turn into this beautiful young woman with a bright smile and caring heart. But that made her a target for someone to break her heart.
“Ask me why, there’s pain and there’s lies.”
“You better go comfort her, Chuck. She’s going to need her dad at the moment. I’ll be in the kitchen making her her favorite dinner,” Diana commented when he walked out of his office, his wife waiting for him.
“What happened?” he questioned, brows furrowed in distress.
“That boy broke her heart,” was all he got as Diana left for the kitchen.
Chuck found his daughter curled up on the couch, clutching a pillow to her chest as tears streamed down her face. He sat beside her, gently lifting her up and into his arms and they just sat there. He’d sit there all day if he had to, if it let him be a comfort for her.
“Dad?” he voice called out meekly.
“Yeah honey?” he replied, leaning down to try and catch her eyes.
“Why do people have to lie? Why do they hurt others?” Her hazel eyes, rimmed red, slowly looked up at him as if he knew all the answers. He really should have the answer, considering who he is, but he really didn’t know.
“I don’t know, sweetheart. Sadly, I don’t always have the answer for everything, but I’m happy to try,” he answered honestly. They sat up and he handed her the tissues from the table. She gave a sad smile and told him what happened when asked. The boy she thought she loved actually didn’t love her and just used her.
“Ask me how, there’s you and there’s now.”
“How can someone be so mean?” she sighed, leaning against her father’s shoulder. Chuck took a hold of her hand, rubbing circles onto the back of her hand.
“I don’t know, (Y/N). When I figure that out myself, you’ll be the first to know,” he grinned when she gave a scoff and then a breathy chuckle at his attempt to make her smile.
“Hang on my love, times running out.”
“What I can tell you is to just hold on, alright? Time is short, but cherish today. Cherish the day that makes you the happiest. That’s what life is about,” he offered as they relaxed on the couch together, like they used to. Everything was calm and peaceful for right now.
“Hey dad?” (Y/N’s) soft voiced broke through the silence.
“Hm?”
“C-could you sing to me again?” she shyly asked, her head tucking into his chest a little more.
He chuckled a little, the vibrations shaking her head a bit from her position on his chest. “What would you like to hear?”
“I’ll hum it just to hear you ask anything.”
“That song you used to sing to me when I had a nightmare? Honey Bee?” she asked hopefully.
Placing a kiss to her forehead, he cleared his throat and began to sing the song he hadn’t been asked for in a long time now. “You buzz around me like a honey bee. The world brand new awaits for you, wait for me…”
* * *
Today was the day. The day he was dreading ever since she came home from college with a boy that cherished her in the way she deserved. At twenty-three years old, Benjamin had asked for his permission to marry (Y/N) and he gladly gave him his permission, even if his heart was saying otherwise.
“There you are, smiling in the same old way. ‘Cause maybe it’s your wedding day.”
Chuck smiled in fondness at the same childish grin his daughter wore as she twirled around in her wedding dress. Any minute now, he’d be walking her down the aisle and handing her off to another. It wasn’t that he didn’t like or trust Benjamin, it was the fact that this was his little girl, his little honey bee. He knew this day would come, he prepared for it when she left for college. But he knew that no matter what he felt, he was happy that she was happy.
“You look beautiful, (Y/N). You’re mother and I are so happy for you,” he commented as he stepped into the room, his wife coming out of the connecting bathroom with a small box in her hands.
“I remember the day you brought him home. I could see it, clear on your face, he stole your heart and this time you were okay with it,” her mother commented as she set about fixing the veil on her daughters head.
“Benny’s the one. I know it this time,” (Y/N) stated as she turned to face her parents, a huge grin on her face.
“I know, honey. Now, we got some time, but we have a gift for you. Something old and something blue,” Chuck said as he took the box from Diana’s hands. Opening it, there was a beautiful blue butterfly comb.
“Oh my goodness! It’s lovely!” (Y/N) exclaimed as she gently removed it from the box.
“It was my mothers. She gave it to me on our wedding day, so now it goes to you. An heirloom in a way. And what else to use with my old veil than this?” Diana stated as she placed the comb into her daughters hair.
“Mom…” (Y/N) teared up a bit as she turned to hug her mother, “it’s amazing. Thank you.”
“You’re welcome, darling. Now don’t cry, you’ll ruin your makeup and Charlie will be upset if your messed up her work,” she joked, getting teary laugh from her daughter. Before they knew it, the chimes sounded, signalling that it was time.
Gabriel was waiting at the bottom of the stairs for their mother to walk outside with her as Chuck lead (Y/N) down.
“Proud of you, sis,” Gabriel commented, planting a kiss to her cheek.
“Thank you, Gabe.”
It was time. The wedding march started to play as the bridesmaids and groomsmen walked out and then the flower girls and the ring bearer. As she waited, butterflies fluttered in her stomach. Chuck squeezed her hand reassuringly as they started to walk out themselves.
“Dad? I’m scared.”
“Don’t be scared, honey. This is just the next chapter in your story,” he consoled.
“No, I know that. I’m scared that I won’t be your little girl anymore,” she replied.
“(Y/N), you’ll always be my little girl. My little ballerina. Remember that. I’ll always be there for you whenever you may need me.”
With that relaxing her, she smiled as they continued down the aisle. Benjamin’s smile growing as he stared in awe of how beautiful (Y/N) looked. That was something Chuck was glad to see; someone who looks at (Y/N) the way she deserved to be looked at. At the alter, he gave her a hug and a kiss on her forehead before giving Benjamin her hand. Taking his seat next to Diana, they watched as their little girl became someone else’s girl today.
“But you will always be my ballerina. Dancing like we only have ourselves.”
At the reception, the first dance between the newlyweds was to the song “Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Elvis Presley. It was the first song they danced to at a friends party as a couple and now it was their wedding song. Chuck watched as they danced together, remembering the times where she would ask him to dance with her in the kitchen or the living room, whether there was music or not. They danced like there was only the two of them (even if Diana and the boys caught them a few times). Before he knew it, it was time for the Father/ Daughter dance.
“And now if we can have the father of the bride come on up. It’s time for their dance together,” Dean, their MC for tonight called out, grinning at the flustered look on Chuck’s face as he was pulled out of his memories. He took a hold of (Y/N)’s hand as they walked to the dance floor together, smiling as their song came through the speakers. “Honey Bee” by Louden Swain played as they danced together for the last time for a while.
“Are you sure that isn’t you singing, daddy? I swear he sounds just like you,” she laughed as he spun her around.
“He does, doesn’t he?” he replied, the old joke between them rolling off their tongues like normal.
“And you fly around me, swaying next to me. The world brand new awaits you, wait for me.”
As the song neared the end, the two of them swaying slowly, remembering the dances in the kitchen and the long talks about life they’d share on the couch. (Y/N) grew up, but she grew up to be everything Chuck wanted her to be. He couldn’t have been more proud of his girl.
“I love you, Dad.”
“I love you, too (Y/N).”
“Forever?”
“Forever and always, my little honey bee.”
“You buzz around me like a honey bee. The world brand new awaits for you. Wait for me…”
