I fucking adore your comic panelling, any advice on how to do it? Like specific ratios or ways to divide the page?

god there's so much advice i COULD give but i really dont wanna end up writing a book here. so I guess I'll say this: however you divide the page you should be CONSISTENT with it, i literally just learned/internalized this but it's made comic paneling soo much easier. when you break that consistency it will be more impactful. hold up lemme grab some pages.

so i recently started making loose stitches a 4 tier comic. it's not the exact same for each page cuz i'm lazy but i think it's made legibility way better. before i think it was kinda uhhhhh a little all over the place. not BAD but a little difficult to tell where your eyes supposed to go sometimes. which isnt great for a commic.

the page on the left in particular has always bothered me cuz i always read the top panels incorrectly and it's like. fuck man what is the paneling here why is it in two columns ????? that's so hard to understand. but the page on the right can be more or less easily understood (by someone who knows how to read comics) even without panel borders because it's just a simple 4 panel square.

one thing my comic professor really stressed was that he didn't like weird paneling or weird borders. for the most part, a square is fine. AND HE'S RIGHT. weird paneling is fun and cool but should be used sparingly or with intention, cuz if you do it too much then like. how tf are ppl gonna read your comic.

that being said there are a lot of cool ways to cut up panels even if they're just squares hold on lemme grab some examples

so the panels here are all square but the image in the one at the bottom is almost like a mural. one thing i really like to using is a lot of heavy BLACK, what can i say silhouette's have my entire heart.

in my fable comic, I used a 3 tier system. it wasn't the same exact size across all pages but all pages had 3 tiers of paneling. that way i can be a little more flexible with the SIZE of the panels to emphasize the more important things, without it feeling like it's all over the place

meanwhile in my comic final i used a 4 tier system where each tier was nearly the same across every page, but you can collapse tiers together for establishing shots and big reveals so that they're more impactful. it's still fully within the grid system I set up so it doesn't feel like it's messing with shit either.

ok i just spent a lot of time rambling about this one particular concept and it's probably not even what you wanted to hear about :') i didnt even go into ratios or anythinggg guhhhh sowwy

other than all that i'd just say you gotta keep looking at what comic artists have written and take note of how they use space and cut things up. there's this book called How To Read Nancy and it has all these exercises for understanding the building blocks of nancy. for real the author is OBSESSIVE and goes through everything of a 3 panel nancy strip from body language to spot blacks to the minutia of the background. we used this book in my class and did some of the exercises in the back and i think it's really good at getting you to THINK about what you're drawing. and you can easily pirate it if you're broke.

also try to make sure things dont get stagnant on a page. zoom out if you're only doing close ups (i try to make sure every page of loose stitches has at least one full body shot even tho I'm lazy and wanna just do talking heads- talking heads arent interesting!!)

also, take advantage of the fact you're drawing a COMIC. you can do shit in comics that you can't do in other mediums, try to implement them when u can! ALSO PRACTICE. you're not gonna get better just by reading and watching. you gotta do it lol. ok ok that's enough and you didn't even ask for that stuff you asked about PANELING sfdasfsd byeee

Don't Play with my heart PT 4 Steve X Garret from the Minecraft Movie

Steve's pov: Garret and I walk outside to his car, heading to his store after we rushed to get ready. I wore my signature blue shirt and pants, while he wore a tight black shirt that really clung to his rock hard sexy abs and his pink jacket. I tried not to make my admiring too noticeable, but I think he might have caught on a bit because he wouldn't stop smirking once we got into the car. It felt like he wanted me to keep looking but we didn't say anything. Instead be just turned on the radio. "I love this song!!" He said turning it up as "HOT TO GO" by Chappell Roan plays. He sings along in such a beautiful way. I feel truly moved and-in love? Everything feels like it stops, except for him. *Am I really in love?* I question feeling my heart race from the pure thought. My mind feels like it's spinning. Garrets Pov: Ever since I woke up this morning, I've felt Steve's enticing blueish purple eyes locked onto me. It's not that I mind, I definitely don't. If anything it turns me on more, especially when I catch him checking me out and the pink appears on his face causing him to quickly look away. He's so cute. The radio was on, but not enough to properly hear it, so I turned it up louder. I was happy i did because then I would of missed out on my favorite song. I couldn't help but loudly sing out each of the words while driving. As I was singing my mind wandered to picturing this song be about me and Steve. But it ended short as we pulled up to the store. So I turned down the radio, "This is it" I said parking the car. "Wow, this is all yours? It looks really nice on the outside." I smiled at him and got out of the car, taking out the keys and unlocking it."if you like the outside, you'll love it in here. You can go on in first" I said holding open the door for him, as he looked around in amazement. "Wow, you weren't joking this is so wonderful. I can really see your own personal touches too it as well." I blushed slightly, but he was too busy to notice thankfully. As he was looking around and I was enjoying the moment I heard a ring come from somebody opening the door. "Hey guys" Henry says walking in. "HENRY!" Steve practically yells. "Henry, your good at building things in the overworld but are you good at doing it here?" I asked "Um depends. I mean I made a jetpack but it ended up flying into a building.." he said. Garret just stood there, not really knowing where I was going. "I'm asking, because I was thinking.. We should work together and make a VIDEO GAME!" I exclaimed, leaving the two of them in a bit of shock. "How are we gonna make a game if we don't know how? Like I'm good at playing since I was gamer of the year in 1989" he said proudly. "Henry I was thinking you could be the one to help me make the actual game, but we could base it off of whatever ideas Garrets has. With some of our opinions implemented of course." "That actually sounds cool" he says checking the time "I uh gotta head to school though, but I'll stop by again after school." He says rushing out the door. "Battleworld Block Buddies" Garret said suddenly. "What?" I questioned, confused as to what he was meaning by his statement "That's what we should call the game" TO BE CONTINUED (Sorry no kissing yet, i wanna work it up to there BUT IT WILL HAPPEN)

Ok but now see you don’t understand. The 100 season 2 episode 9 is one of the most well written episodes in the entire season in my opinion for both the progression of the story and also for the construction of Clarke as a character and everything that she will do later. 

The episode begins with the aftermath of her killing Finn and the beginning of the alliance with the grounders. 

In this episode the relationships Clarke/Bellamy and Lexa/Gustus shine through and are the focal points of that storyline: two powerful women in charge, and the men that love them (in one way or another) want to protect them no matter what.

Bellamy wants to go inside M.Weather but Clarke says it’s too dangerous and she “can’t loose him as well” right after losing Finn. (For my bellarke girlies, the look on Bellamy’s face when she says that is imprinted in my mind forever because he was soo not expecting that lol)

They go to Ton DC and the whole debacle with the poison happens. Bellamy is the first one that jumps in front of Clarke to protect her and snatches the potential poison from her hands. After we find out that it was Gustus that poisoned the cups to protect his commander.

Lexa doesn’t care the reasons behind it, but only the action, because “love is weakness” so she kills him.

When Octavia, Lincoln and Bellamy are in front of the fire and L asks to Bellamy how did he know it was Gustus, B says because he would “have done everything to protect her. To keep her safe.” AND AS I’M SURE EVEN THE WALLS HAVE UNDERSTOOD THAT HE WAS ALSO TALKING ABOUT HIMSELF AND CLARKE because as of right now Bellamy has done exactly that: do everything to protect Clarke because he trusts her, sees her as a good leader and generally cares about her. Also very relevant the immediate response that Octavia gives to this statement “look at the thanks he got” which is kinda of foreshadowing of what is about to happen.

Because Clarke, my dear sweet freshly traumatised Clarke, sees Lexa so powerful and capable that she decided to imitate her and adopts her mentality, so she goes to Bellamy and in the coldest voice we have ever heard from her (towards him) she says that he was right and that they need an inside man in MW. Now here is where cinematography comes in to help with the story, because first of all we see the complete and utter surprise on Bellamy’s face at this sudden change of heart that he doesn’t understand because less then 12 hours she told him that he couldn’t loose him (his Heart shows) then his practical side takes over and he regards her also with understanding. BUT THEN then the camera moves to Octavia and Raven. Remember Lincoln is also there but we don’t see him, we only see those two. Why? Because they know. They know the relationship between these two, they’ve been there since the dropship days, they know this is not how things are done. You can literally feel the awkwardness in the air, as Octavia stares between the two like what the hell is going on. Then Clarke leaves and Bell gets ready for his mission.

Clarke, who has also been plagued by visions of Finn, says to his ghost that love is weakness (after all she just implemented the principle with one of the boys she cares about, she’s only fair to say the same to the other in a more clear matter since he’s dead) and the ghost vanishes it.

By the end we see her reject to keep Finn ashes that abby offers, officially implementing this new motto.

THIS IS WHEN THE 100 WAS A PROPER TV SHOW AND BY GOD DO I MISS IT.
