talk shop tuesday - obviously the nature of fic writing is that we're inhabiting characters that we're not necessarily going to share much with, but one of the best parts of the Morgan AU is the complicated and twisted relationship she has with Eowells and I just want to know how you've managed to do this so well given you've stated you have a very positive relationship with your own parents? How you manage to pin down all the shades and all the emotions Morgan has towards him?

Good question! You’re right, it’s nothing like my experience 😅 my parents are wonderful and far from the awful dad Eowells is.

To start off, I’m gonna answer the opposite question: how did I write how Eowells feels about Morgan?

Honestly this was partly taking note of how Eowells (in s1) acts around the Team, and extending that a few steps further. And also, for specific abuse tactics, a little research, since it’s ofc not my lived experience…and also pulling a little from Carla and Caitlin, since although Carla wasn’t as neglectful as Eowells, she still was neglectful, and there are still similarities here (the workaholism, the cold demeanor, the guilt-tripping, etc). Carla and Tina are in a sense foils…and so are Tina and Eowells, who are repeatedly contrasted in s1.

The key was definitely hammering home that yes, Eowells loves Morgan, and the rest of the Team, but not in a healthy way. And for Morgan in particular, he’s balancing her and his revenge plot…and the latter usually always wins, which results in neglect (a type of abuse) throughout her childhood. Most notably between ages 7 and 13, when he was completely uninvolved (luckily she had Tina to pick up the slack), but also to varying degrees after that, up until his defeat in the s1 finale.

And as for how Morgan feels about Eowells…well, I try to put myself in her shoes. And also, I’ve done quite a bit of research on this too: how abuse shapes kids, how it can turn them into people-pleasers (or potentially abusers themselves, but that’s not Morgan’s case, largely because of Tina + Team Flash’s influence) and change how they perceive things (a raised voice, a door slam) and even last for years afterwards. And how, not all, but some abused kids still want to love their parent—Morgan is one of these. It takes her a while to accept that while Eowells never physically harmed her, while he was superficially supportive, he was still neglectful and at times emotionally abusive, even in public. And even then…she spent so long loving him that it’s hard to shake.

So honestly, it’s just attachment to this particular dynamic*, an eye for the specific nuances, a very active what-if brain that focuses on characterization above all else…and some research to fill in the gaps, since I don’t know all the abuse terminology 😅 (also figuring out what a “mandated reporter” is. Caitlin, who is one, is gonna be hit with some major guilt for missing the signs 🥺)

*after all, this whole AU was spawned by “hey what if Eowells had a daughter/Jesse had a doppelgänger”, so ofc Morgan & Thawne ought to be a relationship I put a lot of care and thought into. And I’m glad you’re liking it! It’s definitely a challenge at times, but that’s part of the fun of fanfic writing tbh.

Wow. It’s been 2 years??? I thought I would be done with this comic in 2 months! I don’t know whether to feel worried or accomplished!!

(With months between each update, I understand why it’s been 2 years. I’m a slow writer and artist and well- many things have come up in my life that had to come first, like my sisters wedding! 💞 and college 😅)

You guys are relentless! I’m as impatient as traffic and yet you guys wait for weeks or months at a time for like 4 pages?! You guys don’t even complain!!! My feelings with this comic are actually so complicated. On one hand I hate looking at my older art because GOD IT LOOKS SO OFF I want to stab it, and then on the other hand I am so so proud of myself for even continuing it this far. Ngl the weird route has been one of my favorite parts of this comic. It took me FOREVER to figure out an ending, but damn do I still get chills >:) hehe.

I’m still miffed that I named this project “Deltarune: The Chara Timeline” I could have gone for something so much COOLER. Doesn’t help I use like 7 different titles for it either. We got Deltarune the Chara timeline, Deltarune chara timeline, THE Chara timeline, chara timeline, Ct??? Man,,, I’m crazy. I take after my family so hard. We have 3 names for each of our dogs 💀.

Comic/Animation Tip i have learned. It is VERY GOOD to make the character relatively simple in design. Shape language is also super important, ((but I never really got around to doing that before I was half way through the comic, woops.)) These things can make ur process go by so much faster. This whole comic has been a HUGE learning curve. LIKE OH MY GOD. I had to learn how to draw backgrounds, write dialogue, plan a story, learn how to draw fast and draw noses (which god damn I really still can’t). And I had to learn how the heck to squeeze art into a tiny page and make it not look grainy. It's intense!

Anyways.... this has been such an awesome opportunity! Thanks Toby Fox!

I totally ran out of “art time” for my iPad and wanted to finish this today. So it’s a bit rushed. I’ll add weapons and possibly the other characters later :)

• You also know you're a loser but unlike Dave, there isn't really any time when it bothers you. You have your friends and you're happy! So what if you're a little weird? Being weird is fun!

• Of course, neither you or Dave are in any way ugly—which makes things easier. Still, people don't ask you guys out because they're intimidated by both your niche interests and quirkiness.

• You met Dave in class when he'd sat behind you and asked for a pencil. You handed him one with small cartoon figures of various comic characters, not thinking much of the interaction, but for him it was as if an arrow had stuck his chest.

• When you finally talk to him, you're directly sassy with him. "What do you want from me, Lizewski?"

• Dave's cheeks turn pink and he's blushing SO hard. "I- thank you for your pencil—" Of course he'd forgotten to give it back but he hands it to you now, his hands shaky, "I- I also like comics. Do you like DC? Marvel?"

• Your eyes lit up. Opportunity to talk about something you love?! YES PLEASE.

• Boom! Immediate friendship! You guys go on little dates to the comic book store (platonic in the beginning). If you're an artist, he likes watching you draw fan-art and if you're a writer he'll read your fanfiction lmaoo he's supportive like that.

• Dave will also cosplay with you if you're into that (only he won't cosplay as Kick-Ass, which you think is a shame considering he'd look soooooo good in the suit 😏😉)

• Your first kiss? Awkward af. If you have glasses, 100% your glasses hit his and he freaks out. You both mess it up but in the end you end up laughing SO hard.

• He's really sweet to you and his friends all joke that you and him are like the IT couple—but for nerds. He'll flip his friends off but kiss your cheek.

• Dave loves that he can ramble with you and you listen to him without complaining. He's SO comfortable around you because you're so similar.

• You both kinda feed into your interests and delusions and have the BEST laughs. He's really your best friend!

How did the guys meeting darling? Ghost x Soap x female reader 1.2k words - no warnings/tags - takes place before Dead Disco This was not edited, just a brain to typing ramble. Sorry for any mistakes.

It was at a bar. Not the dive kind, that you were particularly fond of now, but an upscale, too fancy for you type place. The kind where they serve cocktails in thin rimmed glassware with crystal clear ice cubes and two ounce pours of whiskey that cost triple digits. 

You were there for a party, a bridal shower, of all things. Zipped into an uncomfortable dress, feet already crying from the too tall heels that you chose. The champagne soured your stomach, the fake smile you had plastered to your face slipping more and more as the minutes ticked on, the pressure of too many eyes, too many people, too many questions finally starting to wear you down. The bride-to-be was beautiful, and you were miserable. 

Not because she was getting married, of course. You were thrilled for her, proud of her for actually pulling the trigger on happily ever after even if it was something you’re not sure you believed in. She was happy and that’s all that matters. You’re a supportive friend, after all. But, you were tired, the social aspect of a gathering like that quickly overwhelming you, forcing you to slink to a table in the back where you could hide your bare feet under the pristine tablecloth and slump over in your chair, fixing your eyes on your phone so you could escape, if only for a moment. 

Your reprieve didn’t last long before a gaggle of aunts and well-meaning middle-aged women swarmed you, endless questions spouting from their mouths, inquiries about how you were, how your job was, if you were dating anyone being passed around between them like you were some science fair exhibit to be analyzed and dissected. 

You slipped away when they were distracted, fleeing the table out the side door of the banquet room and down the back stairs to where the brick patio of the street level bar was, which was open for regular business and customers, seeing as it was a Saturday afternoon. 

You met Johnny first, that day. You had turned the corner of the stairwell and nearly stumbled into him, your body skidding to a stop when you felt the cold brick on your bare feet and realized you had left your god damn shoes upstairs. He had been leaning against the wall with an almost empty beer in his hand, mohawk slightly grown out, t shirt accentuating his arms, soft shadow of stubble lining his jaw. You clocked him right away because he was beautiful, gorgeously handsome in the way that made you want to sidle right up next to him and take a closer look. There was something in his eyes, when he registered your presence at the bottom of the steps, something… hot, a heat that curved around your neck and across your throat, down to the very center of your stomach, the feeling of it awaking something desirous, something needy inside you. When he gave you a sweet smile, your knees felt light, and then he gestured to you, a sweeping hand motion that felt like an invitation to come over. 

So, you did. 

His name was Johnny. He was brilliantly charming and utterly funny, while also being extremely intelligent and cordial. He was easy to talk to, and the two of you struck up a conversation without hinderance, the flow of the back and forth actually enjoyable and not a drag like most interactions you had with men lately. He was interesting, and sweet, and sexy and you were trying really hard not to drool as he asked you questions about yourself, what you did, where you were from, who you were. You were so engrossed in him that you didn’t even see the other man, the one in the mask that had arrived to stand opposite him, until he was practically casting a shadow over you. 

He was huge. The width of his body, his neck, even his palms had your eyes subtly widening and your gaze tracing him from head to toe out in wonder, and confusion. Even though he was wearing a black cloth mask over his nose and mouth, you could make out his bone structure, the angles of his face and cheeks telling you that he certainly was beautiful underneath it, and he had a crop of sandy brown-blonde hair that contrasted his eyes, their copper brown hue refracting in the light and nearly startling you with how stunning they were. He pinned you with them, your body frozen where it stood like you were an animal, unable to flee, or speak, or formulate a sentence. You just stood there, blinking at him like you had suddenly gone dumb. Throat dry. Lips parted. 

And then, he handed Johnny one of the beers he was holding. Their fingers grazed, and Johnny’s thumb lifted, stroking along the back of masked man’s hand, an affectionate, soothing gesture that you couldn’t look away from. Something so small, so simple, communicated a million words between them within a second. 

There was something about them, something different that you couldn’t put your finger on that drew you in, pulling you closer and closer into their orbit, until the man in the mask looked down and said:

“Yer not wearin’ any shoes.” The deep, rough timbre of his voice scratched something in the back of your mind, and you felt butterflies thrash in your belly. Your body grew warm, embarrassment snaking up your spine and you took a step backwards, a hand nervously rising to find a piece of your hair to fidget with while you tried to manage a smile and explain. 

“I uh, left them upstairs. At the shower. I was at a bridal shower.” Masked man cocks his head like he’s considering your words. 

“Hurt your feet?” You nodded immediately, a tinge of relief cooling the heat of your embarrassment, and Johnny gave you a sympathetic smile before he turned to man in the mask and gave your name, the Scottish accent shifting the pronunciation so that it sounded all that more attractive. For a moment, he didn’t say anything, just regarded you silently, like he was processing you, x-raying you, seeing you inside and out, trying to decide what to say next, before his voice softened and he said, “I’m Ghost.” Johnny tsked aloud and Ghost shifted, his shoulders tensing and relaxing, eyes narrowing above the mask before his chest deflated with a sigh. “Johnny.” He warned, to which Johnny rolled his eyes, and slung his arm around your shoulder affectionately. 

“What do you say you get your shoes, and we go find another bar?” You nodded your agreement immediately, not caring if these two were going to throw you over their shoulders and hide you away forever, or not. You already knew, you’d be going wherever they went. “Atta girl.” He gave your shoulder a squeeze, and you high tailed it up the stairs, pausing to look back for just a second to see him placing his hand on Ghost’s ribs, the gesture reciprocated by Ghost stepping closer and lowering his forehead to Johnny’s, an intimate glimpse that had your heart rattling in your chest. 

You were a goner.

I was wondering tho, how would the mer boys react if another mer was put in their tank?

Would gender change the reaction?

Would they be aggressive, defensive, scared, indifferent, ect?

Would the type of mer species change their reaction?

What about age?

I could image that they would be heartbroken and sosoSO angry if a small child mer was put in their tank. Even more so if they were injured.

Would one of them if not both become really aggressive and defensive for the mer?

I have so many more questions on this topic but i dont wanna spam/overwhelm you, so ima stop here.

Just big scary mer eclipse half out of the water staring at boat. Then small sun and moon going up to him and bonking him while doing a blep. He has to do it back, thats how the law of the blep works!

Oooooh Eclipse having a tounge would be super fun but sadly big guy dosen't have one. Everything someone bleps at him (mainly his kids) he has a bit of a crises, becasue he dosen't know what to do. He wants to blep back but he can't. So he's just sitting there like:

To your question.

If another Mer where to be introduced into Sun and Moons tank a lot of things could happen but first of all Sun and Moon would be concerned for the Mer. Depending on the Mer reaction theirs might change accordingly.

If the Mer is a female Sun and Moon might be a bit more careful when approaching her, females in general are very defensive. So then wouldn’t want to give a reason to feel threatened.

If it is a male thy might be a bit more open but still on the defensive.

The tank they’re in is barely big enough for the two of them having a third stranger Mer in here with them is going to cause so issues.

Age also plays a big role. If it’s an older Mer Sun and Moon would try to get as much information out of it, to determine if they should be on the look out or if they are free to let their guard down.

If the Mer is just a kid their big brother instincts would kick in and immediately tell the to take care of the kid. Asking if everything is ok, Where the little Mer comes from and how he got here.

But then they’d be confused when the kid pulls away from them and even tries to hide from them, which is a futile attempt since there is nothing to hide behind, so it just swims to a corner of the tank and curls up there.  

Sun and Moon would struggle to understand why the kid is so afraid of them. Back when they first got here, they would have jumped at the opportunity to be comforted by another Mer.

But what Sun and Moon don’t realize, is the to the kid them might look like freaks. Twice as big as any Mer the kid might have ever seen but still having the camouflage pattern from when they were kids.

It’s weird, it’s odd, it’s scary.

It’s not normal.

What exactly is your version on dib like? I mean, we all know that he’s a creep and a weirdo, but what’s his story? (Also I absolutely love your work, you’re super talented)

SO glad you asked.

In all seriousness, I don't have any set story for him. He's just dib, but in his early 20s. The main difference between him and young dib (besides appearance obviously) is that he's had some emotional development. Keyword: some. People like to use the word maladjusted when talking about dib, and that does apply to my interpretation. He doesnt get out much, and he has some unhealthy behaviors (ahem obsession ahem) But he HAS emotionally matured since being a kid. He's a bit nicer, and he's gotten used to some of the mistreatment/bitterness, and shrugs it off with a smile.

As for a "story," I just like to imagine him in circumstances with the other characters, and ill focus on whatever I find funny or interesting. It's all for fun, I like to Doodle random plots in my head, but I'm not going to do or make anything with them. But here's where my thoughts tend to land most of the time:

He HAS moved out of his dad's place. I initially had him still at home, (because I still live at home, and I tend to project onto characters), but after giving it some thought, I realized that dib with his own place was maybe more believable. I don't think he'd want to be in his dad's shadow. This way he can do his parascience in peace and spread out. SO he lives in a downtown apartment. Gaz is his upstairs neighbor! (this way they still live together, but also not really. They kind of have roomate vibes. They see each other a lot) it is a very small apartment, the kind with a kitchen area, a bathroom, and one room for your living space/bed.

(Random idea I'm toying with that kind of doesn't make sense but also?? Whatever: SOMEHOW- dib built a secret basement under the apartment complex, and you access it by entering a code into the elevator buttons. It's his lab. DONT FUCKING ASK how he managed to DIG A BASEMENT - because I don't fucking know. But with how stupid people are in iz, I'm sure he figured out a way to be discreet or fool people??? Thats where hes got taks ship. He painted it blue)

Uhhhh what else...

I like to imagine 2 potential scenarios, and in both, zim had gone missing for a decade. In one, he comes back. In the other, dib sets out to find him. There is another part to that I'm gonna leave out, because I want to draw something and show you that way. Hopefully I'll draw that soon.

Ok, enough rambling now. If I have more thoughts to add on, maybe I'll reblog and add them.

I’m v short for my age … like ariana grande height (5’2”), I’m an aspiring actress and I just starred in my first semi-professional theatrical show today. I also sing, I’m very open minded and a good listener. HUGEEE introvert, the type that would rather spend her day at home instead of go out. fanatic bookworm and I also sketch and write short stories or poems whenever I feel very pressured. my music tastes is very variable, i listen to whatever i like but i mostly listen to miss swift. i love horror movies, and people would describe me as creative and shy. oscar is so proud of you! he doesn't know much about your industry or everything it entails. he's learning day by day though! but he knows you have to put in an insane amount of work for what sometimes seems like very little reward. he's always there at every show and you can bet he's sending flowers and a card to you backstage before your show opens! he's there at the stage door to greet your when you've finished, beaming at you and holding out another beautiful bouquet of flowers as you giggle, filled with that aftershow high.

oscar loves hearing you hum and sing around the house and he does his best when he joins in but quickly decides he'll leave the singing to you and instead woo you with his amazing dance moves (which means pulling you in and spinning you round the room until you're both too dizzy to stand anymore)

he's so appreciative that you're a good listener and finds a massive amount of comfort in calling you or coming home to you after a long day and rambling about everything that's happened - good and bad. he doesn't mind that you're shy, in fact he thinks it's cute! but he also likes that he's able to help you and do something for you seeing as you do so much for him!

oscar is always encouraging you to show him your sketches and poems but he also understands that sometimes those things are very personal. he loves bringing home cute stationary like writing paper and washi tape when he's been away and he always checks your art supplies after you've been sketching for a while to make sure you have everything you need for next time because he knows it's your outlet.

he loves listening to music with you in the car and he's more than happy to let you explain all the lore about each taylor swift album (it's actually come in useful sometimes in various conversations) oscar will never admit it to any of the other drivers but he's now a hardcore swiftie and he will not shy away from correcting lando, "it's 'he looks up grinning like a devil', not 'he looks so pretty like a devil', geez mate" (these interactions have kind of exposed his fan status though because he gets so passionate about it!) any road trips whether short or long will have you both belting out your favourite taylor swift tunes complete with facial expressions and acting.

oscar's love and praise doesn't just stop at everyday life though, he finds that watching you squirm and whine underneath him when he calls you pretty just does something to him. he loves taking his time, slowly stripping you of your clothes, praising and kissing each new section of bare skin that's revealed. he relishes in the breathy whimpers he draws from you and the way you grab his shoulders to keep yourself stable as you stand between his legs.

oscar is the tyoe of boyfriend that will do anything for you. even if that means waking up at five am his time to help you run lines after rehearsals before you sleep. despite his busy week, he had assured you he was more than happy to do it and you have to admit, your boyfriend isn't the best actor, but it makes the process fun!

"hey sunshine! how was rehearsal?" you smile at the phone screen as your boyfriend answers your call, his hair all messy and still blinking away sleep as he matches your smile, "it was good! we started blocking act two today and got to see some of the set pieces! was pretty cool." oscar nods, a sleepy yawn escaping, "I got your message with the script sweetheart." you nod, "just need to look at scenes three and seven they were a little sticky earlier," "I gotcha," he stretches and you bite your lip as a flash of his tummy is visible for a second, "hey now..." he grins. busted. "let's work on these scenes first and then we can think about that later."

I'd probably be very tempted with the upcoming Valentine event as well but I'll just read it later. I can only read (and type) so much story in a day.. (although I did binge the voice drama some days ago. Priority🕺)

And I also somehow has the time to make a WIP 3D model. That Boschi and Nac aren't mine (蜂ノ宮様 and 幼虫様), they're just there to scale. Apparently I made the model too tall lol.

there is a story! well, more like the skeleton of a story 😭😭 iza and i have been conjuring up an entire plot for these lacka-ocs ever since they were conceived. we're not entirely sure if we should write fanfiction for them or just stick to making art, but we intend to get as much as we can out! (worms... worms in the brain!!)

for the sake of our sanity; the plot of 'guns n' roses' is as follows:

bob is part of a family that is deeply associated with the gangster life. he, along with his two brothers, manuel and eduardo (alias; las tres balas), work for the marigold gang. needless to say, they get their hands dirty on the daily. on one particular evening, bob meets maria at a dinner party that he's not even supposed to be at and instantly becomes infatuated with her. maria, feeling strangled by her own responsibilities as a fiance-to-be and the ridiculously high expectations placed on her, opts to develop a relationship with him despite her not necessarily having feelings for him at first. she's not aware that bob is living a double life, and bob wishes to keep it that way, thinking that he can be able to balance both pretty well.

lmao, he can't.

he's directly disobeyed eduardo's rule on not getting seriously involved with someone else, and things only get worse by the day. there comes a time where bob ends up screwing things over for him and his family, albeit unintentionally. an entire domino effect of events has him fearing for his and his loved ones' lives, and he begins to heavily reconsider his actions and being up to that point.

things get loud in st. louis. bob is a wanted man, and people think he's conspiring against the law. eduardo isn't acting rationally anymore--not like how he used to. manuel? well... let's gloss over that one for now. his relationship with maria? dreadfully jeopardized.

this doesn't even begin to cover all that happens in guns n' roses; there's still so many characters whom we've omitted to mention that are rather integral to it all, but we reckon this is a good place to start. a lot of self discovery, topics of autonomy and introspection, a dash of broken brotherhood, romance, with just a hint of generational trauma in this one✌️

Thank you for your answer, and thank you for putting so much thought into that 💞💞💞 mal and nia are my main LIs and at first I was really glad that at least two members of the party stayed with each other and mb even got closer but I can see how it would be annoying and/or sad for people who romance one of them exclusively. I think that I mostly just want to see eeal bonds between our party bc idk it just feels a bit hollow? In the first book they were just thrown together by chance but a whole year has passed and without MC there to hold them together it just shows how much less there is with exception of some banter and general sympathy towards one another. I also think that excluding Threep and other non-romancable characters from the main friend group makes most of the dynamic in choices hollow bc lmao all these people are here to try and fuck us and no one cares about each other beyond that. I don't really like TRR or TF but I feel like friendship was so much richer in previous books, like those two series, OH and TE - and in PM they managed to create a poly route where I could feel solid platonic bonds between people other than MC and LIs (Sloane and Hayden, Steve and Hayden or Damien and Nadia). Or mb I'm just a bit underwhelmed with the current plot course in blades lmao (sorry for rambling around the same three thoughts I just can't seem to gather my thoughts on this whole thing together 🫡)

I’m so sorry, I meant to respond to this sooner. But no, I completely get what you’re saying! You made some good points.

Even though all of these characters were kind of thrown together in book 1, personally I did feel like they were more like a family by the end of it. And I think that’s one of the reasons why everyone loved Blades so much. However, I do understand why the bonds aren’t as tight in this book. It makes sense for there to be some distance between everyone after what happened to MC and the apparent strife it caused. But I feel like they haven’t done enough to fully bring the group back together again and reform those poignant emotional bonds.

As you basically said with the exception of some banter and general sympathy towards one another, pretty much all of the focus is on each member’s relationship with MC alone. And even those relationships are very one sided with each person relying on MC for support, but not giving much in return. When the main cast is tied together by genuine relationships with each other rather than simply all waiting for their turns in MC’s bed, it’s really great to see and makes for a better book overall. That’s why the Pend Pals are still my personal favorite friend group to this day.

I will say that I actually don’t feel like the relationship dynamics in Blades specifically are hollow because everyone’s trying to sleep with MC though. And maybe that’s because I’m only romancing Mal (and flirting with Aerin on the side). But yeah, I think it’s because the writers have really been ignoring the opportunities to capitalize off of emotional beats (which I’ve said a few times before) rather than the characters just not having more to their relationships at all

Winnie will legitimately sometimes forget that Mark comes from a wealthy family until she’s reminded. Like the first time she went to his estate she was like “Ho ho Holy Shit!” 

Fry likes to give Winnie gifts. Jewelry, nice, clothes, stuffed animals, little antiques and trinkets that she expressed interest in. He insists that it’s no bother at all since he has so much money, but Winnie still feels guilty and like he’s spoiling her more than she’s earned since she comes from a pretty modest middle class family. 

Winnie likes to give Mark lots of affirmation and reassurance.  Winnie wants him to know how much she loves and appreciates him and it always causes him to short circuit a little because he is Not Used To receiving recognition and appreciation. Winnie’s also super duper cuddly and loves giving and receiving physical affection. 

Winnie’s a very affectionate person in general, so it feels great that she’s with a kindred spirit that she can lay all her love on without feeling like she’s being too much. 

If Mrs. Tweedy is mad/lashing out at Fry, Winnie will step in to redirect and take the heat instead. Mark is both incredibly touched and incredibly worried by this, since he doesn’t want Winnie to get hurt.

They have to sneak around a lot in the beginning since Fry’s still married to Melisha.

Most of their dates are either in Winnie’s hotel room or somewhere private on one of Fry’s properties

They wish they had more opportunities to be together without the fear of getting caught

I know I've gushed about Barry & Morgan's relationship here - and in your comment box - many times before but like. When I first started reading this series you hadn't written those parts, but you had written some of the S2 parts and I already loved their dynamic and loved the fact they would be stepsiblings in the future, but then! The fact that it developed while you were writing the S1 arc(s) and the way you managed to weave that in seamlessly, like it had been planned from the start to be that way, is nothing short of amazing. It is really impressive, and I can't wait to read more of them.

I always love rambling about them 🥰 they’re absolutely my faves. So thank you for the opportunity!

What’s so funny is that while writing them in s2, they were always friendly but not this close. And it’s been so wonderful writing the s1 arc and realizing they should be closer, actually, and that I love them so very much 💞

The best part is that yeah, I somehow left myself enough leeway to do that—it even makes 2x5 hit harder, when Morgan is freaking out over Barry being paralyzed. Originally, he was just her friend who was on Team Flash with her, and the strongest member, so seeing him taken out so easily was bone-chilling largely because of what it said about Zoom’s power. Now? It has the added layer of “no, not again, why does my brother keep getting hurt, I can’t lose him, please” 😭 Morgan is so, so terrified of losing him, her big brother and protector, and that moment hits so much harder because of it.

(Also it emphasizes that Barry and Morgan being stepsiblings is awkward for them not because of each other (they love the idea of being legal siblings), but because of how little they know their future stepparents—Morgan with Henry, Barry with Tina. Something they’ll ofc fix post-s2 and beyond…though it’ll take a bit more convincing for Morgan, for dad-baggage reasons.)

I was lucky, in that way—I hadn’t quite solidified their dynamic yet, so I had options. And I’m so very glad for that, because their strong relationship is gonna make the AU so much stronger.

For one thing, it’ll explain why no one on the Team ever suspects her of working with Eowells—they all know her well enough that they know she could never really pull off a subterfuge like that (even Joe might briefly suspect but would be talked out of it, because…Morgan truly can’t lie very well in s1, she’s too obvious. She has to cultivate that skill, and she hasn’t done so yet). For another, it presents an opportunity in s2 with 2x17…and another in late s2. For yet another, it’ll make s3 hit so much stronger :D Savitar & Morgan occupy so many of my thoughts lately, and I’m sooo excited to eventually write out their story in s3.
